Feeling hungry bad??
i read somewhere a while ago that when your feeling hungry your body is storing fats, is this true??
sorry if i sound like a complete idiot :)
I never heard that before......
I do know that feeling hungry is not bad per say - it is our bodies way of telling us it needs fuel - its a matter of giving it the correct type/amount of fuel :)
I've never heard that. If you're hungry and not eating, shouldn't your body be burning fats to get energy?
Personally I think it's good to feel hungry sometimes. Not necessarily go hungry, but feeling hungry reminds you of what hunger feels like. If you eat all the time and are never hungry, you forget, and then it's hard to tell when you should eat. Hope that made sense...
emily445455 04-04-06, 01:45 PM Yes, I've heard that when you're hungry your body doesn't know when it will eat again so it holds on to all the fat it can.
It's better to eat every 2-3 hours to prevent being hungry.
Or so I've heard. :) Makes sense to me.
Pipermac 04-04-06, 02:25 PM Nope.....Hunger really has no Effect. It is just a sign that your stomach is empty. It doesnt effect Energy or Weightloss.
Calories are Energy. eating the right foods you can feel full on 1000 calories aday and feel hungy on 2000 with the wrong kind.
Well, there's a different in being a little hungry in between meals and skipping meals and sending your body into starvation mode!
Starvation mode, from what I understand, occurs after a short period of very low caloric intake and causes your body to hold onto the fat longer and burn more muscle instead. You should be getting AT LEAST 1200 calories a day, probably more if you're very large or have a higher metabolism, to keep this from occuring.
I have sent my body into starvation mode before, and it is not a good place to be physically OR mentally.
Feeling a little hungry in between meals is normal, and can usually be taken care of by drinking water, since often times the hunger pains we feel are caused by dehydration. Occasionally feeling a bit hungry wont do you any harm.
Pipermac 04-04-06, 03:56 PM Starvation mode actually has nothing to do with Feeling hungry or not. And it is not something that Happens quickly. People can fast for days at a time without going into starvation mode.
Also many people can eat very low calories and not be hungry but still put there body in starvation mode.
I am curious how you could possibly know that you put yourself in starvation mode.
ok..i think i understand a bit now..thanks for all of your answers! :)

sorry if i sound like a complete idiot :) I had an Aunt, who until she was diagnosed with diabetes II and made a concerted effort to reverse that, was never hungry. She was also overweight, borderline obese.
She had a habit of always munching on something throughout the day. We'd often stop in for a visit throughout her life, and while she was overweight, there simply was not a time when she lacked something at hand that she was munching on.
It is completely normal and good to experience short periods of hunger (be concerned if you don't experience them at all). If your meal quantities and timing were perfect, or if, like my Aunt, you over ate and 'kept ahead' of your body's need for fuel, it would be a rare experience, and so would seem 'strange'.
rD

How could I possibly know? How could you not know???? Starvation mode has more symptoms than just slow weight loss.
After a while of eating too little calories, it's going to catch up with you and your body WILL go into starvation mode. I don't know if you've had an eating disorder or not, but if you have then you'd know how it feels.
The weight loss stops or slows to a crawl, hormonal/chemical changes occur in the body and brain, insomnia, depression, mood swings, and fatigue may occur. Eventually a vitamin difficiency will occur resulting in (perhaps a good bit later after the onset of malnutrition) bone loss, anemia, and pellagra among other things. Note that some of these (such as the anemia, bone loss, and pellagra) will only occur in extreme cases. May I also point out that there is a huge difference in "fasting" and "starvation" because fasting is a temporary situation whereas it wll take your body much longer to go into actual starvation mode. I am very aware that it is not something that happens quickly, and a "short period" can be anywhere from weeks to months.
I work in the medical field, and I know a bit about this.

You originally said that it would happen after a short time....I was understanding you to be one of those people that seem to think that starvation mode can happen in a matter of hours....My Mistake.
I know there is a huge difference..that was my point. You obviously to understand what you are talking about and I completely agree with you.
