:help: Hi!

I am new here, so I apologize if this is a tired question. I am wondering if anyone has any input on appetite suppressants. I am not usually very big into pills - I go by the standard method of reduced cal/fat and exercise. However, that being said I have been working out steadily for almost 2 years now. My BMI is below 20 and I have toned and increased my cardio as much as my schedule allows. I am still about 15 pounds from my ideal weight. Not an unrealistic weight either - with the roll of fat around my midsection to proveit ;-). My biggest problem is my appetite. I always blamed it on my workouts, that I needed energy, but I know my problem is snacking in between meals. I do try to stick to healthy choices, but sometimes my appetite gets the better of me. So to get those last pounds off I am ready to try an appetite suppressant. I have heard all the bad stories about ephedra, but is there anything out there with minimal side affects that actually helps take the edge off those cravings??

Thanks in advance.
Dianna

Perhaps instead of your appetite getting the better of you between meals, you should schedule snacks between meals and decrease your meal size? That way your snacking is on your terms.

You may also want to appropriately schedule your meals and meal sizes around your workouts. You may also want to consult a doctor or trainer about what balance of healthy foods is good for you (do you need more protein? carbs? good fats?) with your workout plan.

Five to six small, low glycemic meals a day is the best appetite suppressant I know of, the second best is exercise, the third best is meditation or just taking time to smell the roses, read a good book and decompress. I personally don't believe in trying to lose weight by pill. My personal opinion is that medication, unless prescribed by a reputable physician, such as is the case with ric1963 (kudos to you, BTW, ric1963, for your fantastic results and the effort you have expended to get there ... I am not directing my comments to you ... I mean use of over-the-counter pills by casual dieters) is a bad idea and totally unnecessary. :)

My personal experience has proven that what Athletea suggests is correct. I eat every 2-3 hours, having my biggest calorie meal either at lunch or around 2-3pm. I LOVE the idea (from Kaja), "Snacking's on MY terms!" (i love being the boss of my body instead of IT being the boss of me, ). Even when I snack on fresh fruit that has sugar in it, my blood sugar remains so level that I very seldom feel hungry. When I do, its very MILD appetite and controllable. For me, controlling my blood sugar has added benefit of relieving my pancreas. Mine has a tendency to over produce insulin (the opposite of diabetes), and if people like me don't keep our blood sugar stable, often ... after time, the pancreas will bascially be 'exhausted' and stop producing. THEN the person switches from having low blood sugar, to having diabetes (a horrible disease to have to try to live with). Since hubby's got diabetes, this eating schedule helps him as well as myself :)

Oh, and eating this way and exercising DOES increase your energy too, in addition to controlling your appetite.
