very low calorie diet. That is pretty much what my doctor wants me to do. Has anybody tried one of these and had them work. Seems like the wieght comes back on. My doc says that the program teaches about healthy eating and stuff so that you don't gain the weight back.

How low is "very low"?

Guess that depends on, as Emily asked, how low "very low" is. I guess if you're someone used to 2500 cal/day, then doing something like 1300-1500 a day is "very low", but if your doc wants to start you out at 1300 or below, I might get a second opinion... You don't want your body to go into "starvation mode" any more than you want to over-feed it.

I agree with these guys. Going below say 1300 calories usually only works for people that don't have a significant weight or food behavior problem. It will work great if you only need to lose 5-10 pounds over a short amount of time, and then it is over. But, if you need to lose more, or have food behavior issues (binging, mindless munching, comfort grazing, etc.), then you may want to get a second opinion. Find someone that specializes in weight loss for the long term, and has many successful clients to show you. It is often more about human behavior, than calories-in and calories-out.

That is my 2-cents. Take care.
