There are genetic, metabolic and environmental factors that ALL play a role in obesity. If it were simply a matter of being "undisciplined" how can we explain why some people gain weight eating almost nothing, while others eat constantly and never gain an ounce?

I agree. Many factors are involved and I don't believe fat people are not disciplined.
That is why there is discrimination against
fat people because they are perceived as not having any discipline.
I think genitics play a large role in it. My familys women were talking grandma and her sisters and aunts and mother and my sisters. All of them are over 180.

I too must protest. Fat people are not all undisciplined! Some fat people may be, but no more than thin people. In fact, I know more disciplined fat people than I do disciplined thin people.
Please read the " Alissa, others, discipline v. genetics topic post "
Because that was has more detail from the person who said we have no disipline and from yours truely me

Geez,
Ya think we can agree on this topic?...don't thinks so...even the scientists don't agree and they get paid big money to find either for one side or the other by the different diet industries...one thing is for sure. for some of us genetics is an issue..for some it is not...for some with the genetic issues they can overcome it for some it is impossibe.. some of us lack disappline in our lives some don't..I personally have very overweight family as well as very thin..some who were very overweight are now very thin and visa versa...What all of us can do is eat healthier and exercise a little more to make our lives healthier and live longer..AND WE HAVE EACH OTHER to move our lives in that direction...Thanks guys for all the support ...Pamela
