I ran 5K today. Weight is around the same. This is an interesting one about metabolism and how it isn't to blame, but our ability to listen to what our body needs fuelwise is the issue. They say that an older, non-active 90 lbs woman eats like a bird because that is what she needs to stay her size.. she is in tune with her body so that is why she is slim and eats that way. I am not in tune with my body. working on it, though. I am the poster child for this issue, I think. I ran 5K today and will run 8K tomorrow. I _should_ be thinner.. but am not. I am not in tune with my needs.

I need to start a "hunger journal".. you don't need to write down what you eat, only keep a scale of how hungry you are when you start eating and when you end.

She does say that to get in tune with your body, you might need to start a food program and weigh and measure or count points because your mind/body connection may be WAY out of whack. I agree with this I am trying to focus on 3 fruits/5 veggies each day and keeping carbs to 1/2-1 cup per meal. The rest follows since I need to stop eating when I am no longer hungry (Paul McKenna says to focus on when you aren't ENJOYING the food anymore because that is when you are no longer hungry).

It's a question of balance - intake vs. outgo. We need to find the balance between the amount we eat, and the amount of exercise we do.

I don't run marathons, never have, don't plan to, ever. But I do exercise regularly. Evidently I have not as yet found that balance between my exercise and the food I eat.

I actually do weigh and measure most of the foods I eat. I focus on the veggies which I happen to like. On my eating plan I am supposed to eat five veggie exchanges per day, and this I do. This quantity of veggies does usually satisfy me.

My problem is that I do continue to eat after I am satisfied. That is what I will focus on.

I also notice that this podcast was a bit shorter than most of them are. I liked that!!!

Hahahah! That's funny.. She can drone a bit, but she isn't _that_ bad. She needs more jokes, then I would remember it better. Heh.

I agree. I do like the little stories that she tells about people.

Part of my problem is that so much of what she is telling me I already know. It's common sense, or I read it in a book once. However it is put together nicely, and I think she is doing a good job.

You are at your goal weight, so the fact that it is all common sense to you rocks - means you have made the connection!

But it is still a struggle!!!

I too struggle with this. I often continue to eat even though I am no longer hungry. Sometimes I will even eat until I'm stuffed although it is happening less and less. I guess I am a work in progress.
