View Full Version : My diet progress

Well I wanted to start a little thread so I had somewhere to post my dieting results, and introduce myself a little better to the forums. Well, I have lost a bit of weight since I registered I am now down to 207lbs. Down from 214! My first goal was to get down to 200 by the end of January. I am not doing badly really.

I don’t think men get in to the psychological aspect that women do. In society’s eyes, a man can be fat and still be manly. He is just referred to as “A Big Guy!” Maybe even increasingly manly-hood? This is generally where I fell in to being a big guy. Only recently has the truth be unveiled!

So here I stand, looking at the chart I am sitting on the fence between seriously overweight and obese. I don’t like the sound of any of them.

P.S Laugh at this if you will (and you will) but I found the movie American Beauty quite inspirational. In the beginning of the film he is pretty fat, starts working out and by the end of the film is looking pretty slim. Apart from the bit where he dies in the end…

Hello BFG
I hope you don't mind me butting in here seeing as I am not a dude, but inspiration is inspiration.
The good thing about your inspiration is seeing the body change you realise you have to work at it, a lot of women are inspired by women that are way to thin.
Seeing Marilyn Monroe singing my heart belongs to daddy (I don't know what film) should be more of an inspiration to women.
Good luck
HAPPY NEW YEAR

You are in the UK? Which part? Although I live in Chicago, I am originaly from Sheffield in South Yorkshire. But I lived in London for 5 years then I ended up in Chicago, I have been here for 2 years now.

American Baeuty is a good insperational film, that and Rocky :D

Hi BFG
and HAPPY NEW YEAR, I think everyones celebrations put London to shame.
I am from Surrey, and have lived here all my life, is Chigago your final destination?
I have made lots of bad choices over the holidays on what I have eaten, but to use one of Bigacey's quotes "I have to put in less fuel, or burn more off If I am going to over fill"
Could you imagine having to work out in the same gym as Sylvestor stallone, to get the body you want you have to work for it, I know they have cloning now, but I don't think they can put your head on the body of your dreams yet ....LOL
Good luck in 2003

Yeah, I think thats why I used to like the university gym a lot better. There where very few muscle bound guys hanging around.

I think I am going to have to push myself in to a public gym in the new year.

No, chicago is not my final destination. I think I will head home to Yorkshire in a few years :) . I think I was at the University of Surrey once, or it might have been University of Sussex. It was late and I was drunk....

Ellie

Hi BFG
I don't go to a public gym, it has nothing to do with embarrassment, I really enjoy walking, and get my exercise that way ( don't look into the walking forums, You'll see me tell Lindasue I wish I was a bit more motivated)
Thats not too bad for being drunk at least the counties are close.
How long have you been a vegetarian?
Good luck
Ellie

BFG
01-01-03, 04:13 PM
Not very long, this is my second attempt. I went veggie for about 3 months in 2002. I have been vegetarian for about a month again. It seems to work quite well for me as it rules out the most fatty foods, without having to use to much brain power :) . I am a Pesco Vegetarian, which means I still eat fish and dairy products.

Walking is great, I think I would get board after a while though. I think I need good veriety of exercise to kep me interested. I am getting a little fed up of the treadmill now, so I need to take up a sport or something this year.

Welcome BFG... if you use the treadmill in front of the TV.. it gets less boring.

Ellie
01-01-03, 07:08 PM
Hi BFG
Lisrey suggested books on tapes from the library whilst on the treadmill, I wouldn't mind trying that.

I think I could easily give up meat, but not meat products.
I don't like the smell of a lot of meat I find it off putting.

01-01-03, 09:48 PM
Thanks guys. I tried watching TV while on the treadmill but my treadmill interferes with my TV signal making all sort of funny lines across the screen. :( . I have an MP3 player and a Discman that I use, so it's not all bad.

Becoming a vegetarian is something that has to be done slowly. Don't make the same mistake I made by going for it all at once, that really hits your system hard :).

It's very hard to get good unbiased information regarding vegetarianism. People are either for or against, and both put forward very good arguments in both directions. I think you are in the safest place for eating meat, the UK meat industry has cleaned up a lot since the mad cow disease in the 90’s.

The US on the other hand has never really been cleaned up; some of the meat sold in supermarkets over here is appalling compared to the UK. It’s all brown and horrible, it looks like it has been on the shelf for weeks, and if I buy red meat I at least want it to be red! Also the US government is using a lot of different hormones which are banned in the EU.

Ellie
01-02-03, 07:14 AM
Hi BFG
I hope you are still motivated, Thankyou for you information. I assumed (wrongly) the meat in the US wouldn't be like you say it is, and adding the hormones sounds bad.
I think we have more intense testing for medicines, as well here, I know some of the drugs available in the US isn't available back here in Blighty.

Hi Ellie,

Yes there are lots of differences in all kinds of things over here. Somethings are better some things are worse. But all in all, I love the US. But the UK is always home.

Well as for my diet progress. Well not much progress. But then again it has been the season to over indulge. I just steped off the scales and I am 207. But I was wearing clothing and just finished a toasted (low fat) cheese sandwitch :). i have lost weight, but not as much as I did in the first few weeks. My goal is to get to 200 by the end of this month.

I am getting fitter though, the treadmill is becoming easier. I used to burn off 500 calories in 45 mins a few months after i purchased the treadmill, so I am hoping to get back to that level. I have ordered some nike 'dri-fit' shorts and t-shirts on-line. so that should motivate me a little when they get here. It's a new meterial that is supposed to keep me cool and dry. I will let you know if it works. It looks cool though :D

Ellie

Hi BFG
Think possitive you have lost, I have put on weight over the holidays I weighed myself on the 1/03 and will weigh myself again in Feb.

my brother in law does alot of mountain biking and he wears the material that keeps the sweat off of your body so I guess that keeps you cool. I have heard that when you dress for the occasion you are more motivated, its a bit like doing an exercise video in front of the mirror, when they say are your tummies in You always look in the mirror to check.

My treadmill is a manual one (I keep going to spell 'manual' manuel, you'll think I have given it a name like the waiter from Fawlty towers...lol).
Good luck

Hi ellie,

Yes your right, as long as the scales are tipping in the right direction, then I am happy. 3 pounds in 2 weeks is not bad at all.

I ran for around 50 mins yesterday so I could have a rest today (friday) and have another long run on Saturday, but my dri-fit stuff came from nike when I got home from work, So I had no choice but to fire up the treadmill and try it out!

I have to say I am impressed with the stuff, it's very light and feels dry when it's wet, much better than my cotton stuff.

Hey, don't worry about your spelling, as you may have noticed my spelling is terrable.

Hi BFG
Good luck with the wieght loss 3 lbs in 2 wks is impressive.

You ran for 50 mins, If I think about that I can get my exercise in for the week, pass me some of your keep me dry clothes to wipe the sweat off my forehead....lol

I saw one of the subway restaurants over here I didn't even realise we had them, what a sheltered life I have led .

I have started a walking journal for myself here to get me motivated. I will feel guilty now if I don't do any walking.
So far it is working.
Good luck so far
keep me posted .
like the spelling joke by the way, just reminded me of my son, He has a ear infection and I was talking to him on the phone and told him to go and see a Dr, If he doesn't it could be irripairable, he kept repeating this, he thought I was joking he thought I said ear repairable, Do I need more proof he can't hear properly, I wondered why he wouldn't stop laughing.
I have already waffled on enough,

Yeah, there are subways in England but they are not the same. There used to be one in Harrow (the place I lived in London). They are dotted around London if you look hard enough. Did you know there are more subways in the USA than McDonalds now?

Hi BFG

I consider myself lucky in the fact that I don't like the burgers in Mcdonalds or Burgerking ,Ican only tolerate small amounts of coke and lemonade, I am not a lover of biscuits either. So looking for fast food outlets isn't one of my hobbies,
I just haven't eaten a balanced diet and done enough exercise to make me lose weight.

I have mentioned this several times on this site already, reading in the daily mail today is says that One in five Britons are now obese and this country as already over taken the United states at the rate in which obesity is increasing.
I find that scary !!!

Well we are doing all we can.

Hi Ellie,

Obesity is very scary. I was watching CNN yesterday and they said that 20.9% of America is obese. They went on to say that the figures are much higher as most people lie or are not that sure about there weight. So it sounds about the same as England.

Well my diet progress is not doing bad. I was feeling pretty ill yesterday so I didn’t do anything other the lying on the settee and watching TV. Going to hit the treadmill later today I think. My weigh day is on Thursday, so I have a few days left, time to get busy!

Hi BFG

I just dropped in to see how you are doing, Sorry your not feeling well,
I am sick of having this cough, which is Ok during the day but as soon as I try to sleep it is really tiggling my throat.
I'm sure missing a day or two on the treadmill isn't going to harm your progress.
Good luck for your weigh in. Don't be distraught if you're heavier, the amount of work you have been putting in lately I wouldn't be surprised if you have developed more muscles.

Hi Ellie,

I must say thanks for taking such an interest in my progress. Monday night I ended up going out to a Japanese Restaurant and stuffing my face with Sushi. I think it's pretty low fat, and I felt like a tasty meal :). I was to full to exercise when I got home.

Tonight I am feeling pretty tired tonight but I think I will hit the treadmill and see how far I get. My wife also want's me to install her new hard disk, but I think I will do that tomorrow :)

So anyway enough about me, how are you doing? Hows the walking? Did you manage to get rid of the cough?

Ellie
01-08-03, 02:23 AM
Hi BFG
I haven't been walking for the last two days, I am hoping that I will be OK today, This cough is making my throat so sore.
I spent most of yesterday in bed drifting in and out of sleep so I am sure its a virus.

One of the reasons I first answered your post was because of the inspiration, I have tried to lose weight in the past by so many diets and inspirations, Having a holiday booked was one of the biggest inspirations I thought I could have, but that didn't work. I read a book about this girl who had grown up with her friend in a small town and was friends with her friends husband and his brother, and she had this boyfriend who made alot of decisions for her, She wanted to keep a stray dog and her boyfriend wouldn't let her so she decided to move out, and change all the things in her life to suit her, this made her mum and dad , her friend, her mums friend all look at their lives, the book was quite funny but it made me realise how much I am doing to suit other people and not take much time out for myself.
I am just trying to make the best of what I have, it's also made me think about how other people see me.
I have even given my husband food for thought, In the summer he was 38" waist and now he's down to 34" , that is by regular walking and not eating lots of pastry snacks that he was having before.
Talking to other people also keeps me motivated.

I have never tried sushi, I'm not sure if I want to ,sometimes the more I think about what I'm eating the less I want it.

Does your wife also come from England?

Sorry for the long post.
Ellie

BFG
01-08-03, 09:54 PM
wow your husband went down to a 34" waist That’s pretty cool. I used to be a 34" all my life. I am a 36" at the min. I hope to get back down to around 180-175lbs again. I can start wearing all my clothes again!! My aim is to lose around 2lbs a week, so I should hit my goal in March I think/hope.

My wife is from Taiwan. It's a long and unlikely story about how a boy from England met a girl from Taiwan and ended up in the USA. Needles to say, we have a large telephone bill keeping in touch with friends and family.

Well, I ran for around 50 mins tonight. The first bit of exercise all week I think. It's weigh day tomorrow...

P.S Hope you get well soon. :)

Hi BFG
Thanks for the get well message, I am not having to cradle my head in my hands any more. And anyway we have had at least 4"of snow in the south of England so I am not staying indoors.
I think you are doing great, 2 lb a week is a foreseeable goal.
Personally I think some people try to lose too much a week and give up when they can't .
Keep going, and keep me motivated.
Ellie

01-09-03, 06:36 PM
Wow 4" of snow down south? Thats a first. :) We had a white christmas here. We got around 3-4" on christmas morning. It was great.

Well, it is weigh day. I was bang on target at 205lbs. So I lost exactly 2lbs in a week. I am hoping to be around the 200 mark by the end of the month.

Ellie
01-10-03, 07:26 PM
Hi BFG
CONGRATULATIONS. Glad to hear your doing well on your targets.
I weighed myself at the beginning of the year and I am not going near the scales yet. I don't want to be too discouraged, if I haven't lost what I gained over Christmas.
I was so excited about the snow, but now its all gone, rained away today.
I wished we had had a white christmas. It must of been really good.
Did you have many white Christmases in Yorkshire?
You can imagine the newspapers here though "Britain ready for the big freeze"
Then we have "Britain ready for the big thaw".
The country comes to a standstill, I was going to say trains not running on time but the snow hasn't affected that..lol
Take care

Hi Ellie,

Thanks, I should be hitting my goal by the end of the month I hope.

This weekend I ran for around an hour again. I had some pretty high fat meals towards the end of last week, but I think it's ok every now and then.

We never had a white chrismas in Yorkshire, I think we had a white boxing day once. I think that was about as close as we got. I can imagine the country standing still. I used to love it, day off work!!

No suck luck in USA though, my train arrives at 8:13 every morning, you can set your watch by it. Even in 3 foot of snow!

Hello BFG
It sounds as though you have been busy exercising.

I managed to walk for over an hour today in the woods, up and down hills, I was very pleased with myself.

My daughter and nephews were hoping we would get more snow so that they could get the day off school and work (for one of my nephews). I wouldn't have minded myself either.

hope you had a good weekend. Speak to you soon.

Hi Ellie,

wow I have been so busy this week. Hardly had time to sit down. I have not been exercising, but I have been eating healthy.

We had about 1/2" of snow this morning. Chicago is gettng darn cold now. Way to cold for my liking. I should be able to get some exercise in tomorrow, so I might still have a chance at hitting my 2lb a week goal.

You have a daughter? How old is she?

After I watched the film Monsters Inc. I fell in love with the little girl in that film, she is just so cute. I don't have any kids yet :(

Ellie
01-15-03, 12:49 PM
Hi BFG
I'm sure if you've been really busy you've been burning calories. Exercise comes in all shapes and forms, thats my motto and I'm sticking to it...lol

Its been quite mild here weather wise, We have had weather reports that Scotland as been warmer than the south of England.
Didn't last too long though.
As well as a daughter I also have two sons, they are 18,
My daughter is eleven and she is a real pleasure to be around (hopefully it will stay that way when she hits the teenage years)
She is thoughtfull, with a good sense of humour, and does well at school, and outside school activities.

Are you hoping to start a family soon?
Take care

01-17-03, 06:30 PM
Hi Ellie,

No we are not thinking of starting a family yet. Maybe in the future sometime.

Well is was weigh day yesterday. I lost a whole pound! Still not bad considering I have not done any exercise all week. So my new weight is 204. I have lost 10lbs since I started! I want to get down to around 175 so only 29 more to go!!

But for now I just want to get down to 200 by the end of the month.

Ellie
01-18-03, 05:20 AM
Hi BFG
Well done, and without any exercise. It sounds impressive when you read how much you've lost in a short time doesn't it. (it does to me).
You'll have to get on the treadmill next week, if not you have to have reasons not excuses.
I can talk like that I'm a mother...lol
I haven't weighed myself since Jan 1, It was my birthday last week and I celebrated with a meal, so If I haven't lost much this month, I am blaming that. My daughter had one of them Nestles white chocolate bars with smarties in and I have developed a liking for them, They could be the other reason If my scales haven't gone down...ha ha
I need to focus if I am going to do this.
Take care have a good weekend
Ellie

BFG
01-19-03, 05:23 PM
Nestle white chocolate with smarties? That sounds too good to be true, you must be dreaming :)

Chocolate in America is not so great, we have Hersheys but it's not very nice. It tastes like that really cheap powdery kind of chocolate they have in France.

Cookies are very nice over here though. They also have nice muffins, cakes and fruit pies etc. Not that I eat any of it anymore. Well maybe now and then, early in the day to front load my calories as they say. :D

I am back on the Treadmill again, well at least I was this morning. I managed about 40 mins. I am getting that hamster in a wheel feeling again :)

Hopefully I can get back to loosing 2 lbs a week. It does sound nice to have lost 10 lbs. I am comming back to England in April so I am hoping I can get back down to the weight I was when I came to the USA in July 2001.

Ellie
01-19-03, 07:21 PM
Hi BFG
No definitely not dreaming, although today I resisted, I was a good girl.

I don't know whether you just become accustomed to the taste of certain foods, but Cadburys and Nestle have to be my favourite. Christmas I was given alot of Belgium chocolate as gifts, You end up playing Russian roulette with them See who can eat one more without being sick, I hate waste....lol
I am quite good at resisting cakes, pies, biscuits those sorts of food I do like them but I know when I have had enough.

Is there any other type of exercise you enjoy, I think boredom is one of the reasons alot of people give it up.
I prefer walking outside to the treadmill, I don't drive and my daughter has piano lessons on Saturday, so if my husbands working we walk there it takes us an hour. Then I walk to the local shop to get my paper while she's having her lesson, Then we walk back into the town and then home, 4 hrs yesterday.

Are you coming to England for a visit of for good? Remember to try those nestle bars, but not too many you don't want to put all the weight you've lost back on...ha ha
Take care

Hi

I finally updated my avatar. I think a running man is appropriate! Even though that running man looks very thin and his legs look abnormally long! I also got rid of the vegetarian quote. I don’t like how a lot of vegetarians have a ‘holier than thow’ attitude towards meat eaters. I don’t want to fall in that category.

Oh yeah, the diet progress. Well I ran again this morning. It was Martin Luther King day in the USA so I got a day off work. So I ran first thing in the morning. But we went out for Mexican food this evening so I think it balances out. Still, 4 days to go until weigh day. All is not lost!

I will be back in England for only a few weeks. Just enough time to visit everybody and then I will be on my way back. I am going to go to the gym this week. I have a pass for a free 2 weeks at a gym next door to the bank where I work. I don’t think I can afford to join though it looks pretty exclusive. But I will milk the free trial :)

Walking or running outside is not an option in Chicago at this time of year. It gets way colder than England. It’s the coldest weather I have ever experienced. The summers are very hot though. Besides, I like to blast my music while running in the apartment.

Ellie
01-21-03, 04:22 AM
Hi BFG
Noticed the avatar, Is it me or does he take abnormally long strides..lol

I only found out Friday it was a public holiday in USA for Martin Luther King, does anything happen or is it just like a English bank holiday.

Make sure you get the most out of your gym pass...You'll be there so often, They will be sure you're going to join.

I remember you saying it was cold, How cold is it at the moment?

My husbands decided to treat me and he is taking me to Florida next month, My brother said to me "go out for breakfast, theres places where you can eat all you like for $8"
and I'm thinking, I get full up on a bowl of cheerios and a cup of coffee in the morning, Why would I want to go and eat loads that I don't want just because it is eat all you can. Do you think a lot of people are fooled by these types of messages. you know, Lets get $9 worth of food just to make it feel like we have had something for nothing

What music do you listen to when you're running?
Take care
Ellie

BFG
01-23-03, 08:18 PM
$8!!! what a rip (Just Kidding)

Yeah $8 sounds about right for breakfast. But usually I get the full breakfast thing with coffee, coffee cake and a fresh squeezed Orange, 2 pancakes and a three egg omelet with cheese and a big hash brown. Usually around $15. Still VERY cheap. You wont need to eat anything else for the rest of the day. I usually have that and then don't eat until late at night. I don't eat all of it. I used to eat at an Chinese restaurant that was $16 all you can eat. And they had Peking duck!!

Now is the best time to come to the USA I think the exchange rate is up to 1.61. When I came over it was 1.3 something. It's going to cost me a fortune to go back to England :c(

I listen to fast music when I am running. Dance music or hip hop it seems to keep me going a little better. Eye of the tiger - rocky theme tune.mp3!!

There where a lot of anti Iraq war protests on Martin Luther king day. Thats really all that seemed to happen. I heard Toni Blair is not so popular these days because of the the Iraq war proposal.

the gym pass went a little pair shaped. stumbled across this web site

http://www.ballysucks.net/lindex.htm

there are a few more web sites like that about this chain of gyms, so I think I will give it a miss.

Well here we are again, it weight day. I am down to 202. So I am back on track. Hopefully next week I will have hit my target. Anyway, going to hit the treadmill now.

Ellie
01-24-03, 08:07 PM
Hi BFG
It sounds like a lot of food for breakfast, but when my sons lived at home we used to have "our full Monty" on a Sunday morning, Eggs, bacon, sausages, mushrooms, tomatoes and bread or toast, orange juice, tea or coffee, some times I still treat myself to one but everything is grilled now and the egg poached, that normally fills me up until dinner in the evening.

I hope there are other good reasons to come to the USA, all the talk of war is quite scary. I can't say I would feel safer being here in England after listening to the news today about the suspected terrorist in Italy caught with the underground map of London.

Tony Blair isn't very popular at all in my opinion, and BNP have just won another victory. I am grateful I never voted for labour. I think he wants to take the country to war without the ability to win. He is power crazy, as well as all the troops that have been sent to the gulf, the firemen are still demanding a fair wage and are still going on strike .
202 I am glad you have achieved so much, you are doing so well with your targets. I had a sneak at my scales and they are not shifting ( broken again ...lol)
I will weigh myself seriously at the end of the month, the fact that the white smarties bar seemed to be sold out everywhere I go should be helping.....ha ha ha

Hi ellie,

yup, I did the full breakfast on Saturday morning. Mushroom Omelette, Orange Juice, 2 pancakes, 2 coffee cakes (I ate my wifes) and coffee. My wife had pretty much the same but with a different main course. It came to $26 + $5 tip (the service really sucked).

I have done no running as the treadmill is acting up. I have a guy comming out to service it this week as I don't know the first thing about them.

So it's been a weekend off the diet. I will be back on tomorrow. I booked my tickets to England tonight! April the 10th to May the 4th. I thought I would have a good 3 weeks so at least I have time to rest somewhere in there. :)

Hi BFG
The weather here in the south was lovely today high of 17, the forecast says it could snow though this week . So I enjoyed the fine weather while it lasted.

I am able to get out walking more, and since I bought my steamer I am getting quite an appetite for veggies ,I don't mind eating them on there own, I always had to mix them with potato or meat before I could eat them before.
I hope you enjoyed your breakfast, You have to find a diet you can live the rest of your life eating to lose and maintain weight.

I wouldn't understand the first thing about treadmills either, when I lived at home with my mum I took her food mixer apart, I couldn't find any thing wrong , I put it back together and it blew up when my brother was using it, I of course acted as though I had never touched it .
Good job I never studied electrics

Sorry for the late reply, it's been very busy lately.

Well I just got off the scale and I am down to 198. Don't ask me how I lost 4lbs in a week, I have no idea. I havent really done anything special.

We went out to an all you can eat buffet last night, where I ate myself silly. I hit the treadmill for an hour this morning before breakfast to try and compensate a little. It felt more like damage limitation!

I also had pizza this week. I really have no idea why I lost the weight I did. But hay, I am not complaining! It feels good to be back in the 1xx figures instead of the 2xx!

Hey there BFG just though I would check in and let you know that there are other guys on this site. I spend most of my time on WW Challenges forum. Seems to be working. That’s great that you have lost this week with out really depriving yourself. Sometimes that’s just the way it works. Good that you are working out for hour. I am just coming back from a motorcycle accident and not back to my running yet but I did ride my Mt bke for about 45min today. I live in Idaho it should be about 20-30 degrees but we are having some kind of heat wave today was something like 58 crazy I should be XC skiing but instead we are doing spring sports pretty crazy. Oh yea I am also a veggie. Good for you! Good luck and if you feel like drop in on us on WW Challenges. Gary

Hi BFG
I was beginning to wonder if there was going to be a reply.
GREAT JOB on the weight loss. I avoid pizza, I always feel bloated and uncomfortable afterwards, So I don't have it anymore. There is also a lot of salt in it that causes water retention and weight gain. But I am really glad that you have lost weight , The new you will be all the motivation you need to carry on.
I have lost 2lb this month, which I know isn't a great deal but I have been walking alot, so I am putting it down to building more muscle and at least I haven't gained.

We had snow here again, and this time the country did come to a stand still. I walked my daughter to school and then 10 minutes later had to pick her up again, Three teachers managed to get in, All the schools where I live were closed. But we have had rain ( I bet that surprises you, Rain in England...ha ha ) and all the snow as been washed away.
Take care

hi

Yeah, I am happy when the scales are moving in the right direction. As long as I am not gaining I am happy. I havent done any exercise this week, due to this darn cold. I just can't seem to shake it off. I am still eating healthy. I don't know whats going on as I just got off the scales and I am 195. Something must be happening to my body somewhere. :D

Got my tickets for England this morning so I am all set for April!!

Hi BFG
I am sorry you haven't been feeling too good. I have had the same problems myself. I thought I had got rid of the cold and sore throat but it came back with a vengence.

As long as you are not gaining that is what matters.Glad to see you're still eating healthy.

I hope the weather is better for you, Where I live, it is situated on a hill, and last week when we had the snow, the roads weren't gritted so you couldn't get off. The schools were closed.
It was like an ice rink down the hill.

Take care, have a good weekend

Hi,

Well I am still shaking off this cold. I think I have just about got rid of it now. I am just catching up on some sleep. Still no exercise this week, I am still eating healthy. Well sort of. Hopefully I can get some sleep tonight and go for a light run tomorrow to try and get back in the swing of things.

It's very cold out here, we are in the middle of a snow storm at the min. The best thing about America is that the heating is included with the rent. We have under floor heating on really high at the min, almost burning my feet :-)

Hi BFG
I have just had to have my boiler fixed so I have been without heating for the past couple of hours, I am surprised my fingers are still moving my hands are so cold.

This cold seems hard to shake off, I still have mine. I am eating quite alot of veggies at the moment I am wondering if I would be feeling worse for not eating them or should be feeling alot better because of the amount I have consumed during the last few days, Who knows?

Take care
Ellie

Still at 195. Darn. I have to hit the treadmill again soon. It's been nearly 2 weeks now since I last ran. Still shaking off this darn cold.

Hi BFG
195 isn't that bad considering you have been unable to do much exercise because of your cold.
Don't rush into it though, it will cause a longer recovery time, and you haven't gained.
Need more encouragement? look at your stats..your doing great.

hi,

Sorry it's been such a long time since I posted. Still not much to report on. My weight loss is slowing down a little, I am 193. So only lost 2 ponds in about a month. I am back running again, I have been eating healthy, but not as healthy as I used to. I am hoping to get my self motivated again.

I am looking forward to the summer, it will be nice to get out and run in the open.

Hi,

Sorry my posts are getting few and far between. The truth is, the weight is not falling off as it used to. I think I have hit the plattue (however it is spelt) so that slowing me down. I am also eating meat again, although only once or twice a week.

I have been doing some research, and to beat the plattue I need to build muscle mass. So I now have a swiss ball that I am using to do press ups and crunchers. Right now my abs are really hurting :(

I am down to 188, so the scales are still moving in the right direction.

Hi BFG
I thought you must have left and come home earlier than expected.

I am glad you have worked through the plateau and have kept up with your goals, It is hard to stay focussed when the scales are not moving in the right direction.

Sorry your abs are hurting, but its all for a good cause. don't overdo it though.
Take care

Hi,

Well it has been a LONG time since I have posted here. It's been a rough time the past few months. I am now living back in Sheffield, and trying to get a divorce.

I have taken up the gym, and have been going for the past 3 weeks. Hopefully I can lose a little bit of weight now.

Maybe I will post here in a while. Anyway, I am 196 lbs at the min so I havent gained much.

BFG,
Going through rough times make losing weight harder. Food is comforting and it's easy to get to. I've found that instead of eating, I write stuff down. If my head is in the wrong space, I write stuff out until my thoughts are clearer. And having a computer, you don't need pen and paper.

Just do the best you can, and give yourself some slack as you need it. Last month was the anniversary of my sister's death. Couldn't understand why I was eating the way I was for like 10 days there. Didn't gain, but didn't lose either. Once I realized it and thought it through, it made getting back to low fat eating easier. And I also try to remember I only get today anyways. All you have to worry about.
