View Full Version : The Dude and The Lady
SierraDude 01-01-03, 10:24 AM HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!
It's a new year, so I figured a new journal. Especially because my lady (LadyL) is getting so involved here on DT and my journal had become our journal, so I made an our journal for a fresh start on the new year.
Please feel free to take a gander or catch up if it's been awhile in my old journal SierraDudes Ramblings II @ http://www.diettalk.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=24204
What a chivalrous (not sure thats spelt right) guy you are.
Heres wishing that 2003 is a wonderful and very successful year for both of you.
i predict that Sierra will get his new job and that Lady will start her own journal here as she will be such a successful weight loser this year.
hugs to you both.
bell :)
SierraDude 01-02-03, 09:02 AM Another glorious night of shift is getting close to being over. This is an overtime shift so I will have a short turn around to days and will be back on Saturday. After I get off in the morning I will be going straight to the gym to get in some time on the treadmill, so I am looking forward to that. The boost in energy that gives me will help me stay up later in the day to help me get turned around to the day shift.
Yesterday morning after I got off work I took a look at the new Tai-Bo tapes we got last night. I made it halfway through just viewing the instructional video before I passed out in my lounge chair. I know it doesn't sound like it motivated me too much, but I found it very interesting and think I'll try it.
Don't you just love these exercise tapes with the fashion models showing we real people how it's done. They assure you that their exercise can be done by anyone, yet you rarely see a gravity challenged person sweating through one.
Big Red 01-02-03, 01:19 PM HAPPY NEW YEAR!
LOL!:D
Isn't that the truth......
Loved the "gravity challenged" remark...sounds a lot better than some of the terms I would have chosen. It would be nice to see some bigger individuals in those tapes though. Some that may not be able to go as fast as the thinner ones.....at least then it would seem more realistic and I wouldn't feel as bad, myself, for not being able to keep up.....heck, half the time I look like I am ready for a corinary.
I think that's why I like the Richard Simmons tapes! They have "real" people who are "gravity challenged" on them! And they show the weight loss successes at the end of the workout, which is really motivating! A lot of people out there don't like him, but I think he's too darn funny without trying to be!
Well, I didn't work out last night, but I did again the night before while Kidlet was in the bath. I felt it more yesterday than I did on the 1st, too. Had some muscles complaining quite loudly yesterday. Today, they're merely mumbling, but still making their presence known! Guess I just need to let them know who's in charge.
Well, lunch is almost over, and I need to check my email.
Anastasia 01-03-03, 05:11 PM  I have to agree on the models leading the workouts on tape thing. But at least you can struggle in the privacy of your own home when you're following a tape.
I want to get back into a yoga class (I do some yoga on my own, but want to do tons more) and I am SOOO resisting going to any class in LA. Each class is filled with celebrity types and georgous, young women without an ounce of fat on their taut little bodies and I end up feeling like a total cow in the back of the room where I can't even SEE because I need to wear glasses for distance! Hmmph. :tomato:
I've made a pact with myself that I WILL go this year. I'm giving myself one more month to stretch on my own and lose a few more lbs before subjecting myself to such humiliation. Can't wait! Not. :(
Speaking of Richard Simmons, have you ever caught one of his appearances on Letterman? The two of them interacting is a hoot!
Who wants to compete with the little starlets? I have enough problems just working out next to a slightly pudgy woman almost 30 years older than me! I'd rather stay home where nobody is looking at my backside, and I'm not looking at the skinny ones who complain that they have too much body fat at 2%!!! Besides, I have to sit some workouts out because if I blow out my right knee one more time, I'll have to have a total knee replacement! I'd rather not.
I haven't seen Richard on Letterman, but I have seen him on Jay Leno! They're really good friends, so they really cut loose together! What a scream! They had the A&E Biography of him on last night. I didn't watch it because I'd seen it before. It was pretty interesting, really.
Didn't work out today, but I got plenty of exercise hefting 60lb cases of paper around the storage area at work. Then, when I was done and had 14 cases of paper on my cart, I had to push it halfway down the hall (about 30 yards) to the elevator and back down the upper hall (about 60 yards) to the shop. Talk about doing your leg presses!!! That's 840lbs of paper! :lift:
Well, gotta go for now. Take care! :)
SierraDude 01-07-03, 04:43 PM Wow, I really must get in here more even when I am at work. It took awhile to find this thread, it was so far down.
Well I got to the gym this morning and did my official weekly weigh in. I lost 7 pounds since last week! I must have been bloated last week or something because I did nothing special or out of the ordinary with my plan and still dropped seven pounds. I normally don't like to lose that fast, but I figure about half of the weight I lost must have been water and I ain't gonna complain. :D
While I was at the gym a repairman was there working on the psycho treadmill that I used last Thursday. I was doing my warm up walk (3mph) when it took off and accelerated to its max speed (11mph). I nearly did a face plant into the console of it, but caughtt myself and moved my feet out to the sides off the belt in time. I stopped it and it died. The guy working on it said he saw a research video from Stanford that was using monkeys on various treadmills and one lost control like that launching the poor primate across the room. It wouldn't get near a treadmill again no mater what they did. I guess the monkey is smarter than me, because I'm back doing my thing on one. Though I doubt I will be using that particular one again.
I got going this morning a bit earlier than I had planned because my nerves were starting to egg me on. My final, I hope, job interview with the water plant is today. That's part of the reason I went into the gym. I wanted to burn off that excess nervous energy and get focused as well as charged up with the positive energy I feel after a work out. I feel much better and am more ready for the interview now.
Big Red - welcome back to my journal. Glad I could entertain. :D I'm surprised you haven't heard the term gravity challenged before. At least I'm not vertically nor follicly challenged. So I have that going for me.
bell - thanks for dropping in. Happy new year and many successes to you as well and my your predictions come to fruition.
Anastasia - they may be thin and "pretty", but it takes a true artist, not to mention a booty to be able to shake it! :D and that's all that counts.
I agree with my lady. That is one thing I like about Richard. He does show realistic people that have true success.
i have everything crossed for you at the interview Sierra, great job on burning off all tha nervous energy :)
although its just as well you didnt do the face plant on the psycho treadmill , that wouldnt have looked too pretty at the interview. Lady may have had to get out her makeup and make you look pretty lol...
7 pounds gone, mate you are disappering before our eyes! You are AWESOME!
hugs bell :)
Big Red 01-07-03, 05:48 PM Dude, I must be shedding some serious weight from laughter.....I know that at the time you didn't think it was too funny when you almost did the nose dive into to treadmill but the way you tell the story is hysterical! Even better that I can totally relate to it because I too have done the same thing.....It was about 6 years ago though and I guess I am more like the monkey.....never been on another one since. Frankly, they scare the crap out of me. I like my feet firmly planted on the ground where they belong! LOL
Hope the interview goes well! Congrats on the 7 lbs!
Lady, one of the reasons I walk at 5:30 in the am is because it is so dark that people can't see my back side, front side or any side for that matter. LOL I have tried the in home workout videos but feel so silly doing them even when nobody is around. Go figure. I am a really outgoing person but just have this problem with being self conscious while working out. Doesn't really make a whole lot of sense.
I think moving all that paper definitely counts as a workout...hope you are not too sore the next day.
Julie
tmayder 01-09-03, 10:46 PM Hey Dude-O's!
Ok, I'm ready to hear how that HOPEFULLY last job interview went. Good idea to burn off that nervous energy before going to see them!
CONGRATS on your weight loss success!!!!
Cheers!!
Linda
PS: I hope you go visit Anastasia's journal... she needs to share... LOL!!
Anastasia 01-15-03, 11:18 PM Yes, lots of talk about our periods in my journal - all for your sake Dude!
I'm surprised more people don't fall flat on their faces on those machines....but I really came by to check and see how the interview went. Are you AWOL cuz you got the job???
Oh, and about having 'something to shake' - when I used to take an African Dance class with all of these skinny size 2's, the drummer used to come up to only ME after class to compliment how nice I looked while dancing; so many other cultures actually appreciate some curves...
tmayder 01-22-03, 12:22 PM Well?????
What are you two up to???? New Job??? Gym???? Lil Dude???
Sorry for not getting in for a while!
I was hoping Dude would get in and post his info soon, but he's been working a lot of overtime, lately, because one of the shift supervisors quit to take a better job. So, he's been working his normal 4/12 hour shift, then taking on 2 more 12 hour shifts at the end of his night shift run. Of course, it's at a supervisor level, so he does get paid more!
Well, he didn't get the job. :c( However, he talked to the supervisor and she was very positive, telling him that he was their second choice, and that there would be another position opening around July. I don't know if he has to go through the whole business again (I hope not), but he felt much better after he talked to her. She even told him to keep in touch! How many prospective employers do that when you've just been turned down for a job? Especially when it's a quasi-government job?
At work, we're gearing up for the new semester starting on Monday. I'm in the process of running 534 books for Chemistry, Biology and Nutrition, along with hundreds of other jobs! :-s I even started off the morning by pushing my cart full of 840 lbs of paper! That's 14 cases, and we've already used 6 of them by lunch! I may be making another run before quiting time!
Kidlet has been running us ragged, lately. He got into trouble at preschool, so we've had to deal with that. Then, he got sick this weekend, and I had to pray that he'd be alright so that I wouldn't have to miss work during one of the two busiest weeks of the year for me! I don't have a whole lot of options, as far as a backup plan is concerned. Usually, I can take the day off, but not now. Luckily, his fever broke and he's been doing okay, although he has a bit of the sniffles. His pediatrician says he's most likely got a bit of cold, but that he's past the contagious stage - that happened over the weekend. Wonderful! :tomato:
Well, I'd better get going! Got to get back to work! Will talk soon!
Where is everyone? Hope everyone's okay! Especially with the nasty flu/cold viruses running rampant!
Jeremy and I spent the weekend in bed with a nasty cold. Even had to miss our ring bearer's birthday party on Saturday! But Dude went. Jeremy and I cuddled together on the couch and watched Cinderella II on tv. It was kinda cute. FIL came by in the afternoon and said I looked like "death not quite warmed over!" I was very miserable! I felt like those big noses on the commercials for the nasal sprays! My nose and my lips are so chapped today, they look like I've been using sandpaper instead of kleenex! Actually, that's what it's been feeling like, too! Dude has managed to escape the crud, thank God and knock on wood!
Lost seven pounds this week between work and cold! Friday, I pushed 900 pounds of paper around! Still been watching what I eat instead of a "diet". So far, it's working pretty well.
Well, better get going! talk again real soon!
hey Lady.
i have been working way too many night shifts back to back so have been MIA from DT for a little while.
hope you and Jeremy are feeling better real soon...congrats on the 7 pounds...take it any way we can get it i say lol..
Sierra- i am sorry you didnt get the job pal..they dont know what they are missing...fingers crossed that the job in July comes good. dont work yourself too hard or you will get sick too.
hugs bell :)
SierraDude 01-29-03, 08:42 AM I am alive :) though it has been too long since I have been to the gym and too long since a weigh in :( So I can't tell you all how well things have been going in the weight loss front other than I think I have lost some weight from the way my close are fitting and the way my wedding band is getting looser and looser. I will have to have it resized soon, as I have had the dang thing slip off my hand a few times already. I just don't want to do it right now because I am still losing and I don't want to have it resized twice, especially because it needs to be sized down which requires a bit more than stretching it bigger. It will have to be cut, sized down welded and polished so the weld doesn't show or be felt.
Thanks all who have come by and checked to see how my interview went and such. My lady covered that pretty well. I'm making pretty good money right now, but I am getting even more sick of working here than before. I have also interviewed for the Shift Supervisor position that I am doing so much overtime on, but it still can't touch the money, benefits and employee treatment of the water plant. I will take the job as supervisor until I can land that evasive water plant job.
I will be getting to the gym today after I get some sleep from work. I need to get back into the possitive space I know I have when I am working out and losing weight. It is for me that I must do this, therefore I will. (sounds good, lets hope I can get jump started again.)

Andrea
got2befit4me 01-30-03, 10:33 AM Wow Dude! I can't believe how much weight you have lost so far. Great job! Dudette is doing very well too! I wish my hubby would join me in some healthier eating. Although he is very supportive of my weight loss efforts.
I was experiencing some technical difficulties and time restraints so it took awhile for me to stop by.
Sorry to hear about the job at the water plant.:( Hopefully the next one will go better.
Keep up the great work! Both of you are doing great! :dn
SierraDude 01-30-03, 11:25 PM Hi Andrea,
I don't know about having it down to a science. I just have this great program on my Palm handheld computer that helps me keep track of everything. It has a huge database of food nutritional info, that can be added to very easily, so all I have to do is tap what I eat and it does the rest. The quantities are a guestament on my part, but it seems to be working for me. The program even has an exercise database that will calculate the calories you burn on various exercises based on your weight, gender, duration and activity. Basically all I have to do is choose whatever activity I did and how long i did it and it does the rest. So it makes it pretty easy for me. It also calculates my Basic Metabolic Rate based on weight, gender and activity level. So all I have to do is mark what I eat and how much I exercise and watch the numbers so that I eat 1000 calories less than what I burn to lose about 2 pounds a week.
My biggest problem is that sometimes I can't eat enough good stuff during the day to make the 1000 cal mark. :) Like yesterday I had 500 cals left to consume that I didn't get to. It's rough, but I'll push through :D Some days I'm right on and some days (few thank goodness) I finish lunch and notice I have 200 cals left for dinner.
So it isn't science it's technogeekology.
SierraDude 01-30-03, 11:39 PM Hi Sue!
I'm glad you dropped in. :)
I haven't exactly been burning out the posts either and I haven't been experiencing technical difficulties, though the time restraints I can relate to. So no sweat.
I should get around more to other peoples journals too. If anything to give them the support they have so generously given me.
It looks like you are doing great as well from your stats. You are so close to goal! That's great! You keep up that great work yourself. :dn
Hey Technogeekoligist. I am not so high tech. I bought a new digital camera in Dec. and still haven't looked at it.
I need someone to guide me through it.
Andrea (technophobe)

Seems that you are doing well. Keep up the good work!
Hello all!
Hope everyone's doing well. Dude sure is!
I'm still not quite trying overly hard, but still managing to lose weight. After approximately 30 years of dieting, I've had it, so I'm eating healthy and not dieting.
And, what hey! we managed to get Lil Dude to eat the other night, instead of play! It helped, of course, that they had hot dogs on the buffet line! If he keeps up his finicky eating habits, he will have an UNDERweight problem, not overweight! We've had to sneak some PediaSure into his diet from time to time, just to make sure he's getting enough nourishment!!!
Well, gotta get back to work. Talk to y'all soon!

SierraDude 02-02-03, 08:34 AM Hi Big Red
I found the software through Diet Talk a while back, but it is called the Diet & Exercise Assistant and can be found at. www.keyoe.com
SierraDude 02-02-03, 08:39 AM Andrea,
To become one with technology and think out of the box you must open the box. Especially to get at your new TOY! :D
