Okay, a brand new year, and renewed effort to a healthy lifestyle. Last year was a good one as far as being healthy, exercising and eating pretty healthily..
But this year I am going to be more consistent on my monitoring of the food.. There were several times,, more often than not, that I wasn't eating enough. especially need more fruits and veggies. I am going to use fitday and post daily ..
Another thing I'm going to attempt, is doing a weekly menu. I've been doing it by the seat of my pants.. not always working well.
Today I am taking the day off exercise. I have been hitting it pretty hard and think my body needs another day of rest.
Tomorrow it will be back at it.:ex: :lift:

Hi guys.. I couldn't find my thread.. I forgot to subscribe to it.:(
Had an impromptu dinner today. was going to bbq a chicken on my new rotis. and was chatting with cuz on im this morn.. asked them over then cuz's wife's sister and dh.. so had 6 here for dinner. got rid of a lot of veggies and salad leftovers too. and had a good visit. sometimes the unplanned times go better than the ones I stew over.
Oh the baby Geo Forman grill did great too.. I've rotissed chicken breasts and steak before but not a whole chicken.
We went for a short walk before dinner. Will get to the gym again tomorrow..

It was a pretty good day.. kept within my calories and ww points. guess it isn't necessary to do both, but I like to compare. No exercise today other than lugging the vacuum around , out to the trailer and back. and normal cleaning. It was a beautiful day, I should have gone for a wlk or bike ride. I'll try to do that tomorrow. was 75 here..

I want results right now too. I am so impatient. I had to break my scale addiction because of it. I used to drive myself nuts peeking every day. Just gotta remember to look down at your feet instead of at the path ahead. Or at least thats what I have to do.

Hey Wand?

Your weight is going to drop off in a big chunck.. And even if you dont see it on the scales you will in your clothes. Your re-shaping your body.

Just curious... what is your calorie goal a day?

Wand, sounds like you are doing great.

Keep up the good work.

Congrats on the 3 lbs.

Don't let the scale rule your life. I found while working out, I didn't lose any weight, but I lost inches. I was looking so hard at the scale, that I sabotaged myself. Like I said, the inches, but that just wasn't enought. Don't let that happen to you.

Lets be happy, healthy and fit.

And are you still planning to start BFL on the 20th? I'd love to see you in the BFL Forum again!

Here I am again.. Had a wonderful week watching 2 yr old grandson last week.. We took our rv up and stayed in a park while she went to a conference. So babysat during the day. It was so great spending time with him and her..
I didn't get to exercise as much as I wanted to, on second thought , going to the park and pushing a stroller around and around is exercise.. Just didn't do wts. but then again, he isn't weightless. so it was a different kind of exercise.. And full of hugs and kisses..

Have been back to the gym this week and doing well with the eating. so will see what the scales has to say on Fri..

wanderer1
01-31-03, 09:57 PM
I saw 1/2 lb loss today lower than my stats.. but it had gone up a couple since I wrote that in.. so feel good about the loss.. I guess I really should change it weekly.haven't decided when to change it.
Had a good day.. spinning for an hr in the morn. then wts..
off to chat.. will catch up here later.

Hi wand,
Been a while since I have been here and about time I say!! I just know you had a ball with the grandchild!! Mine is asleep in the big recliner right now. He loves to curl up in that thing with his big old warm fuzzy blanket along with our beagle sophie and both of them sleep like a log!! I know by the time I get back in there to get him to his bed I will hear Sophie snoring away so loudly that I am surprised Tyler is still asleep. They sure are a pair.

Hey good job losing 1/2 pound. So did I!!!!!! I too wish it would come off fatser but slow is oka s longas it goes down!!

Havea wonderful weekend!!!!

Wand,

I wanted to respond to your message to me in your Journal .... I think if you have the chance to go to Trader Joes tomorrow (which I am going to do as well) ..... get those microwaveable vegetables that I mentioned to you (try the butternut squash ... so high in fiber so low in calories; the beets, baby green beans, baby zucchini squash -- all so very low in calories). I tried their Turkey Meatballs ...... and it is so GOOD UNBELIEVABLE ....... I have found so many wonderful things to eat at Trader Joes ..... and it is more affordable (especially serving two people)... anytime you want recipes .... all you have to do is tell me .... if you want pasta, chicken (which I have tons of recipes -- more than i will ever use in my lifetime) .... also I purchased a Slow Cooker cookbook .... I have a Betty Crocker Eat and Lose Weight Cookbook .....

And you are losing inches because of your working on your exercise regimen .... :cheer: I will check back later ..... to see if you have read this post .... just know one thing for sure YOUR GOALS ARE ATTAINABLE ....... AND YOU WILL ACHIEVE THEM. I will be checking back later. As always, Monica

wanderer1
02-06-03, 09:28 PM
Yes, I got your msg,, thank you so much.. Will get them tomorrow..
the meatballs sound very good too. I'll scan back thru your menus and see what else I may want to pick up..lol
thanks a bunch..

Wand here is a small list of some of the things I have tried and enjoyed purchasing at Trader Joes:
Kashi Cinna-Raisin Crunch
Kashi Go Lean Cereal
Trader Joes Nulaid Egg Product
Jarlsberg Light Swiss Cheese
Trader Joes: Minestrone Soup, Lentil Soup, Barley Soup, Corn Chowder
Trader Joes Italian Turkey Meatloaf (I have learned to make it using some of the same ingredients .... )
Trader Joes Very Berry Mix (blueberries, boysenberries, strawberries) .. frozen fruits
Trader Joes Harvest Whole Wheat Bread
Trader Joes Nonfat Milk
Empire Chicken Breasts
There fresh Salmon Fillets, or their frozen Tuna Steaks (fabulous selection of fish)
Trader Joes Lean Ground Chicken
I always try something new .... their products are I feel very reasonable (compared to grocery shopping i.e. Lucerne 1/2 gal nonfat milk is $2.59 a half gallon .... at Trader Joes 1/2 gal of milk is $1.79 .... Fleischmann's Eggbeaters is $3.29 for a pint ... Nulaid Egg Product is $1.99 ... the whole wheat bread .... doesn't taste like eating a piece of paper ... has real body and a loaf lasts Les and I 8 days .... it is $1.59 ....) only thing I don't buy their is fresh fruit ... it seems to spoil quicker ... but other than that I will try a variety of their products . LOL maybe I should advertise for them ... but the products I have mentioned are terrific ... and since Les and I have to live off a very fixed income ... we eat well, and I am so glad my daughter's introduced me to going to Trader Joes.

Make it a great evening. Take care. Let me know what you think. As always, Monica

The one thing I love about all of these .... high in fiber, low in calories ... very filling and economical for two people.

I agree with lizzie DOWN IS GOOD. Congrats on the 1/2 pound. I am so glad you are litening to your body and figuring out what works best. I am finally feeling better so it is back on the bike.

I have to agree with Monica TJ's is lovely as long as you hold onto your wallet while there. I have to be carefuly cause everything is so affordable and delicious that I go a little nuts. I like the high fiber tortillas. the mini pita pockets. the cereal. and the protein bars are a very good price and they carry every brand of any kind of bar. I go to the one on Wilmont and speedway. Also if you are on a budget drive west about 4 blocks on speedway from TJ's and stop in Rainbow market. This has got to be my best find ever. I buy my healthy bread there for under a dollar. Really I love that place. If you are brand particular they do'nt always have what you need but boy when you do you get a deal. I bought 6 cases of boulder bars there for 50 cents a piece ( regularly 4 bucks)

Oh I am raving on and on obviously it is early and I need to wake up.
Have a great day Gal

Trader Joes shopping today.
and had a great dinner

3oz tuna steak grilled in Geo Forman rotiss
5 spears Asparagus
1/2 c butternut squash
1/2 couscous w/green pepper, green onion and cilantro

I just filled our plates so we weren't tempted to have seconds as we really didn't need them..
Had a small glass of wine and candles and felt very special with our little intimate dinner..
Probably didn't need the wine but don't think it added too many calories..

02-09-03, 12:21 AM
Wand you had a FANTASTIC DINNER. What did you think of the butternut squash? Les doesn't like it unless I add margarine, vanilla and ground cinnamon ..... and mash it all up. I just like it without all the stuff .... but since I am cooking for two I have to make sure my man is happy.

Sounds very romantic ..... which is nice; Les and I eat in the kitchen ... maybe for Valentines Day we will eat in the dining room. Make it a great evening .... take care. As always, Monica

Been away from here a few days.. Had a very stressful time, but must say something good came from it.. I lost about 7 lbs.. was 180.5 this morn.. Haven't been that wt for years.. I'm excited ..

Have been eating well and getting a lot of exercise,, and very little sleep.. the sleep has started to get back to normal tho. That is a big help. Always easier to think clearly when I have enough sleep..
Now to get working in the yard.. got it dug up to repair the drip system. Will get some plants and flwers tomorrow to get stuck in for some color.. Ah what color won't do to help perk a person up.
Hope you all have a terrific day..

:coach: WAY TO GO WAND ....... :cheer:

I am so thrilled for you ...... YOU SEE YOU HAVE PROVEN THAT BY GIVING YOURSELF THE TIME AND PATIENCE ..... YOU WILL GET THERE :D

Next suggestion .... when you are at Trader Joes the next time you go shopping try Morningstar Farms Better n Burgers ...... really good low in calories and high in fiber .... plus if you like try their Low Carb Whole Wheat Tortillas ..... 60 calories and 9 grams of fiber AND THEY TASTE SO GOOD.

I keep finding so many great foods ..... lol some not so great BUT THE MAJORITY IS TERRIFIC ......

I am so very very happy for you ..... I know how frustrating it can be when you are working and doing everything HUMANLY POSSIBLE ...... but the fact you were patient with yourself IT PAID OFF BIG TIME.

Slow and steady ..... we'll get there. As always, Monica

wanderer1
02-24-03, 03:11 PM
thanks Monica.. are the burgers like Garden burgers? I like those but not the Boca burgers.. they tasted like cardboard to me. Will also try the ww tortillas.. wasn't thrilled with the pitas.. everything dropped out the bottom.. We decided on not doing them again.. need to make a run today as we are out of sprouts and veggies..

Just got back from the gym and a killer spinning class and free wts. so now need to get in the shower..

monicapink
02-24-03, 03:16 PM
I think they have more body than the Gardenburger ..... and Morningstar Farms has a variety of different foods ..... all low in calories and high in fiber -- I like Boca Burgers .. but then I add things to it like mustard, relish etc. .....

If you put alfalfa sprouts at the bottom of the pita ... it helps hold it together.

Have a great day and happy shopping. As always, Monica

Another good week.. weighed 172 today.. well, have for the last 3 days.. but don't believe it til the 3rd day:)

All is going well, I haven't been on here as much as I haven't been keeping track on fitday or anything. Just fixing my small meals for dh and I and when that is gone we are through.. He has lost 25 lbs.. Men!!! they lose so much fast than we women. But am really happy for him as he has also cut out one bp med.

Am focusing on the exercising and getting my yard in shape.. and not so much on food. I'm finding that works for me better than thinking about it all the time..I was really in a rut where all my focus was on food.. I was obsessed by it it seems.. Glad to finally turn that corner for me..

Well, off to see if I can get some work done in the yard before it gets too dark. It was 86 here today..

wanderer1
03-20-03, 10:06 AM
Had a brief blip in the wt.. seemed 172 was a fleeting thing, it went back up to 174 for about a week.. now has dropped to 171.5.. what a funny thing it is.. But feel my clothes are fitting much better and I can bend to tie my shoes a lot easier..

Granddaughter is here for a few days.. keeps me busy but wants to go to McDs.. so will take her there for lunch and bring it home so I can fix myself and dh something else..

Had a nice rain so flowers are doing nicely..

Back again,, keeping up with the exercise and good eating and it is finally paying off..
the scales has been at 169 for a week, but today was 168.. will see how long it is there before I change my stats..
Am digging some 'old' clothes out of the closet and wearing things I haven't had on in years..
Feels so good..

I almost feel like the saying 'nothing tastes as good as thin feels'. I remember this when dh comes thru with the Girl Scout cookies..
Hope all are having a great weekend..

Congrats on the 1 pound wanderer. I know what you mean about waiting to make sure it stays. I think it will for you. You have been doing really good.

Wow, resisting Girl Scout cookies, right on. What a woman!!!

See you on Tuesday hopefully. We will be able to really report in those minutes. Hurray!!!

wanderer1
04-05-03, 12:18 PM
Well, it has stayed 168 for a week, of course I was hoping it would go a bit lower.. but just glad it is staying there and not going up..
Got measured at the gym last week and have lost another 7 1/2" so that is good news.. the fat content doesn't go down fast.. lost 2ml of fat according to her calibrations.. I don't understand all that, but just glad clothes are fitting better and I feel better.
Am doing major housecleaning today. expecting a house guest tomorrow.. I usually do a bang up job on Saturdays anyhow but even got down on my knees to mop today:D that should use up a calorie or two...

Back again.. another loss now at 165.. it feels soooo good.

Dh and I were teasing each other as he is losing also.. He said we will have to carry a big stick to keep the 'others' away.. NOT.. but it was a nice thing to say ..lol.. He does know what to say at the appropriate times.. It is so wonderful to have a good relationship.. I thank God for that daily. He has sure guided our lives in ways we couldn't have known.

Off to spinning class this morn.. will try to keep posting more often.

Back to the journals.. I see the wt loss is really slowing down.. only 1 lb in over a week, but I'm happy with that instead of a gain.
Didn't make it to the gym today, the weather is so beautiful, I worked out in the yard and cleaned the house.. I'd suppose that counts as exercise.. at least the vacuuming and mopping.
Now need to find a solution for flappy upper arms...8-|

It is a beautiful day.. so must go out and do beautiful things...

Wanderer,

congrats on the new number, aren't those exciting too see, especially when it has been years since we last saw them.

I would love to go for a massage. Maybe I will have to make that a reward for reaching a certain goal. Hey, what about each time I get down to a new number, 260, 250, 240 etc, I could get a massage. That may be just what I need, lol. Great motivation anyways.

Well keep up your great work. See ya around

Wow, didn't realize it had been so long since I wrote in here..

All is going well, the wt is dropping slower now but still going in a downward direction..am now at 161lbs.. a new low for me.
We moved our 5th wheel up in the mts so are running back and forth every other week or so. it is only a 4 hr drive so not that bad. Right now we are down in HOT weather, but hope to go back soon, in a few days.
Still exercising and bought a bike so can do some outdoor riding up in the mts.

Can you believe it? It's been 2 yrs since I started this thread. Guess I should start a new one, but what the heck, I'll just add on for now.

Have great news, I took my Natl Boards for Therapeutic Massage and passed so now I'm a legit working girl. Lol on the 'girl' part but that's beside the point..

AT least I can say I'm legal now.

Now getting to the wt management.. it hasn't happened. I need to change my stats as I have gained most of what I lost. Too much sitting and studying I guess, not enough exercise. When I read what I used to do, I make myself tired.
I am kind of anxious to be back here for the winter so I can get into the exercise mode again. I did like it and felt much better.

Kudos to all who have hung in there and are 'getting rid of it'..

It is a great morning. Woke up early and had my cup of coffee out on the patio and listened to the owls hooting to each other.. They have become our morning and evening companions out there..
I even turned on TV and did two brief exercise or stretching programs.. Not much but it's a start for someone who has been out of the exercise routine for ages.. One was a yoga stretch and the other was 'Body Electric which was chest and legs.. very good but found I couldn't keep up like I used to. Oh well, a step and stretch at a time and I'll be back soon. I am so excited about my life and what I'm doing. A bit dissappointed in what I've let fall by the way side (my healthy body) but I am where I am so will make it from here. I've listened to some wonderful cd's this last year, one is 'The Power of Now' and the others are Carolyn Myss's work.. They have really spoken to me and we need to grab the moment as 'Now' is all we have.
Have a great day everyone.

Yes, Marg I do remember you. I'd love to give you a massage.. and congrats on getting back on track.. We will do this..

This is a P.S. to the post I just wrote.. I just read through about 4 pages of past notes.. Wow, I was on a journey and took a wrong turn somewhere last fall. Makes me a bit peeved at myself but oh well, here is where I'm at now so I know I can do it.

I wouldn't want to go thru the stress I was under at that time so will take the happy times and deal with it. But reading thru them did help me see the difference in how I was eating. That is the key, stay with the small healthy meals and exercise. So Awaay we goooo

Good morning, I'm still not sleeping well, I wake up several times in the night and wonder if it is morning yet. This morning finally got up around 5 and it was still dark. I took my coffee out to the patio and listened to the owls hooting to each other. They are so neat to watch and hear. Of course this morning I only listened til it got light enough to see. They are perched right across the fence in the neighbors euculyptus tree. They must have a nest up there as this summer on one of my journeys home, we saw a baby, or smaller one on the fence at times. They are the great horned owls so the female gets really large. I do enjoy 'my' birds out in the yard. Also enjoy the ones in the mts. a whole different set.
I did exercise a bit yesterday and feel a bit of tenderness which is a good thing. I like the feeling of knowing I did something.
We have a CST class going on here today starting at 1 and running for the weekend so better scoot and get some more things done that I haven't had time to take care of. I haven't been home for more than a week in the last year and a half. It will be good to come home mid Oct. and stay for a while. Altho I will miss the mts. Am really torn between the two, but home is where the heart and hubby is.

Sunday morning. One more day of class then we head up in the mts tomorrow. It will be good to get back there and see how everything fared in the two weeks I've been gone. I'm sure they are fine.. A friend is going to water for me if it doesn't rain.

Oh yesterday morning dh and I were sitting on the patio and the owl came to visit. He/she sat on the fence then hopped on down next to the pool. Must have been 15' from us.. Sat there looked around and then slowly flew away to perch up in the tree. I'm so glad they aren't afraid of us. The female must stand around 18 to 20" tall at least.
That's it for today..

We are back in the mts and it is wonderful up here. Have been very busy seeing clients while I have the 'master' here to work on some of my problem people. She is a phenomenal teacher and therapist. I have learned so much from her. I have done some of it with my heels dug in but am learning in spite of myself..lol
We have a class up here this weekend to teach. it is so rewarding to see all the people learning the work and know they will be able to help someone else lessen their pain.

Things have quieted down a bit after 3 very busy weekends. Company has left and I'm getting back into my routine. I like it. See a few clients a day and that is just hunky dory with me. Am also in the process of looking for some property up here. We would like to invest and have a place to come to in the winter, that way I could see clients as well as just enjoy the winter. Lots of decisions to be made and guidance to ask for.
I know the right answer will come along. Be still and listen.. hmmm seems I've heard that somewhere... :secret:

Ah, back again, dh just left this morning to take a load down to Tucson. We had such a great weekend, and got so much talked about. I've always thought we had a great relationship anyhow but there were a lot of assumptions that needed cleared up. what a fresh feeling I have this morning. he left at 5:30 and I laid back down on the bed after making it and slept til 9.. guess I was tired huh?
The wind is blowing quite hard up here blowing the awning around a bit. It is getting cool up here in the morns. have the heater on during the night.
Am anxious to get home next week and spend time in a roomy house..

Well, I've let time slip away from me again.
I've moved back down from the mts for the winter. Had a lot of stuff to put away, so been pretty busy cleaning out closets etc. Out with the old energy and in with new.
Went to the gym, and going for walks so getting the body moving..

Thanks Monica,, It is a very good day. Hubby and I were going out to brkfst this morning, got to the little local cafe we like and it was full of people, so we came home and he fixed me breakfst.. blue corn pancakes, bacon and an egg. It is a beautiful day out so may go for a walk after while.

Last night we went to see Wayne Newton in concert here. We had never seen him and I was so excited when they announced he was coming to town. He puts on a good show and is ageing like the rest of us. Well, maybe not quite like the rest of us. I didn't see a lot of wrinkles but I'm sure that was due to makeup and lighting, and the fact I was not right up close..
Thanks again for visiting my journal.
