View Full Version : "It's time!"
mcmarto 01-02-03, 10:51 AM Well...this is my third journal since I found DT way back in March...
I have been overweight now for 10 years...it took me 3 years to gain 65 pounds...and in the last 7 I have added on another 20 or so (give or take a few!)........The most I have been able to take off at one time is about 18 pounds (when I dropped down to 202)...I have tried a lot of different "diets" and have decided to stick with calorie counting and some exercise - since it seems to work best for me!
Today is the day.......This is the year...I need to take control!
My goals:
*To eat between 1600-1800 calories a day
*To drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water a day
*3 fruits...3 veggies daily
*Less sugar, fat, fried foods, and fast food
*Exercise (walk, step, Curves) for at least 30 minutes/5 days a week
*To not give up
I also have some other goals which are not "diet" related...
*Listen more
*Volunteer
*Read 24 books this year
*Watch the 100 greatest movies of all time
*Buy fresh flowers every 2 weeks
*Enjoy life more (which includes more dates with DH)
*Save some money

mickeyvoll 01-02-03, 11:11 AM Hello McMarto!
I'm afraid I used to lurk in your previous journals - I used to love reading about what you had been getting up to at school and stuff. I'm so pleased you have put a new journal up here.
I think calorie counting and exercise are one of the best ways of weight control - well they work best for me anyway, and I've tried most diets in my past, believe me!
Anyway, I just wanted to wish you well for your new diet.
chumlette 01-02-03, 11:27 AM Yay! Mc finally has a new journal! IT IS ABOUT TIME. hee hee
Happy New Year. I know this one will be a winner for you, my dear...I am so excited that you are fresh again! Just take it one day (one hour?) at a time, Mc. You'll be able to accomplish your goals for SURE.
I'm really proud of you for taking the reins again.
It is time ! For all of us !
Hope you have a wonderful day !
Take it one step at a time
 Peng
Yahoo! She's journalling again!
2003 -- the year of control.
mcmarto 01-02-03, 03:42 PM Well so far so good...but its only been ... hmmmm 6 hours!...hahaha!
Thanks Mickevoll...Chumlette...Pengii...and Kilogo for stopping by!
Did anyone watch Oprah today?...Good motivator!
So far I am doing well with calories and my choices...I will be coming in each night and letting you know my totals for the day!
I have this small Pug calendar that a friend gave me (the kind you tear one page off of a day)...I have decided to use that as my journal...I am going to list my eats (calories...fat...and fiber) on the front...and on the back write how I feel!...
Hope everyone is doing well...tomorrow I am leaving to visit a friend in Galesburg and her new baby...I will not be back until Saturday night...it will be my first test!
Oh...something I learned today...the chocolate molten lava cake from Chili's has 1,505 calories and 67 grams of fat!...ayyyyyyyy!
Also.........the word of the day is ... mufti (MUFF-tee, MOOF-) noun
1. Civilian clothes, especially when worn by someone who normally wears a uniform
2. A scholar or jurist who interprets Muslim law.
Talk more later!...mc
mcmarto 01-03-03, 12:13 AM Ok...here I am......
I did well today...1700 calories...8 glasses of water...all my calcium...2 fruits...2 veggies.....my fat intake was at 30%...I would like to lower that to about 25% for now.....and...I need to raise my fiber intake and eat another fruit or veggie!
I walked on the treadmill for 30 minutes (even jogging for 1)...I tell you...I wanted off after 10 minutes but I stuck with it!
I am leaving tomorrow a.m. to visit a friend...I already looked up some nutritional value of foods at restaurants near her home (she doesn't cook!)...
Talk on Saturday night...or Sunday!
Have a great weekend everyone!
mcmarto:D
fleureange 01-03-03, 12:26 AM Mcmarto,
i love the word definiton. That's a great idea.
I also loved your goals. i really like the one that says you won't give up. I should add that one to my list. I have no intention of giving up, but if it's on my list, I may not be tempted.
As you know, I send myself emails daily to remind me why I'm doing this. I hope that helps keep me motivated.
For anyone else who wants to do this, here is the site

I hope you have fun visiting your friend. Good for you for doing your homework on you food choises BEFORE you go.

lutha2018 01-03-03, 12:35 PM It's great to have a Mcmarto journal to visit again!
It sounds like you are off to a very promising start. I hope your visit is fun and you are able to find food to fit your plan.
Do you have to go back to work on Monday?
chumlette 01-03-03, 12:45 PM YAY! Mc! You did it!!! I knew you could. This is so wonderful.
Have fun at your friend's.
Yahoo, McMartoo!!
Treadmilling for 20 mins and sticking with it when you wanted to quit! You go go go, girl!
I'm very proud of you. Off to a great start this new year. :)
I am so glad you started a new journal. I plan on being a regular visitor.
Cheers,
Andrea
Minnie mouse 01-03-03, 05:33 PM Hello and im glad to see you back again. i guess alot of us took a break from our plans but this will be the year we succeed.
take care and stay strong. we can all do this together.
mcmarto 01-05-03, 02:09 AM Well my mini-trip was great!...My friend's baby is so tiny...he has a cleft palate and the dr's aren't sure if he is deaf or has a hearing problem yet!.......I hope everything works out well for them!
It took forever to get home (normally 3 hours)...today...4 1/2 due to rain and snow.....it was scary driving but I made it!
On Friday my calories were at 2070 (270 over due to hard to resist breadsticks from Fazoli's)...but not bad considering I did pass up dessert.........and cookies!
Today......Saturday...calories were at 1850...perfect!...I gave in to a McD's apple pie (260 calories)...but I did pass up the fries!...No fries for me!
I did not make it home in time to walk (it was after 10...too late...disturbs landlord)...so I just drank some extra water...but I have been sitting her typing quite a bit...so...that has to count for something!
Thank You all for stopping by!
Fleur...thanks for the info on memotome...I am sending myself a memo daily and weekly...right before the weekend!...I actually enjoy searching for nutritional info online...I just need to know the facts!
Lutah...well...I did find things to fit in my plan...I was annoyed when I went to Applebee's though...I ordered a chicken breast with rice....and I asked them to put the sauce on the side...of course it wasn't...I was too hungry to send it back...and I did not have enough willpower to scrape the sauce and cheese off!...hahahaha!...But it was still a much better choice then I would have made otherwise!
Chumlette...Thanks.....I had a good time!...Hope you are doing well!
Kilogo...Hey girl...It was 30 mins on the treadmill...not 20!...hahahaha!...Thanks for stopping by...you have seemed so busy recently!...Oh...I forgot...you are the big .. bad moderator now!...hahahaha!
Nanny...Oh...thanks for stopping by...hope you are successfully back on plan!
Minnie...Hey girl...thanks so much for stopping by!...Hope your new year has started off well!

Ok.......now.....if you can please all take the time to let me know what is your favorite book......I need to start my goal of reading 24 books this year!

Oh my word!!!!!!!!! My dear friend Mcmarto has a new journal and I have not even posted in it yet. :c( Bad Crazy2!!!!!
You are doing terrific Mcmarto, good going on counting calories, I am back at that too. The only way for me, otherwise I just sneak too much into this 'big' mouth of mine. 8-|
Glad to see you are doing so great, and walking too, (typing does not count for much exercise wise, sorry, or I would be here all the time) good for you.
Keep up the good work and enjoy those dates with DH.
McMarto, I see your posts all over the place... thought I'd stop in and visit your journal! You have some excellent goals there. I don't know what you like to read, but I'm a librarian & I know a LOT of good books. I'll send you a PM & give you some thoughts on that.
Fries are hard to resist, aren't they? The first thing I did when I started weight loss was to quit going to fast food places. I thought it would be really hard, but amazingly, it wasn't. I haven't been to McDonald's, Wendys, BK, etc., in nearly 2 years. It was one of the best moves I've made -- I still go out to eat, but if I do, it's something I intend & choose to do, no spur-of-the-moment drive thrus. I do sub places and Taco Bell for "fast." Nothing with fries -- I couldn't stop eating them if I started again!
Good luck to you & congrats on your walking! Another thing I motivate myself with is listening to books on tape on the treadmill. Would that help you with your treadmill boredom AND your 24 books in a year goal??
Lisrey :bubbles:
mcmarto 01-05-03, 07:51 PM Hi all!
I am back from my fun day!
Let's just say...today has become my free day (did I fail to mention....1 every 10 days?)...Well...I had a lean breakfast pocket this a.m. with a banana and milk...then I walked on the treadmill for 30 (including 2 - 1 minute sprints)...then off to the baby shower...
It was brunch style...we had 4 items to choose from...I ended up with some french toast stuffed with a cream cheese, rasberry filling...sprinkled with powdered sugar...oh...it came with sausage too!
Well...I did eat most of it...well 3 out of the 4 wedges...and all 3 of my sausages...but I had a diet coke...and had some coffee with Nutrasweet....I did have cake but I asked for the smallest piece!...It was all so good!
I am waiting for the DH to come home...we are going out for baked clams and pizza...I promise to eat less then usual!
I feel ok about it...the actual true test will be tomorrow...getting back on plan after my free day...but...I must get used to it since this is life and delicious ... one of a kind meals will come my way often!...heeheehee!
***********
Crazy...hey girl!...Thanks so much for stopping by!...Glad you found me!...Thanks for all the motivation...
Lisrey......Thanks for the PM...lots of great suggestions!...That is so great that you were able to give up fast food joints!...I still enjoy a Whopper (no may...no cheese) every now and then...and a Happy Meal...or salad from McD's...but I do not frequent those places often!........I eat out at sit down places and get sandwiches with fries often...so now I am being forced to make healthier choices at those places too!
Well I am off to read some magazines...back to work and grad class tomorrow!...ARGH!
mcmarto
Ok, McMarto, 30 minutes! Didn't mean to shortchange you there. And then you did another one, good for you.
Get back on track tomorrow. No choice!
chumlette 01-06-03, 11:31 AM Today. On Track. Treadmill. Delicious Low-Calorie Foods. Water.
Yippee.
I loved Breath, Eyes, and Memory, by Edwidge Dandicat (spell?). It is a fast read and a delight.
mcmarto 01-06-03, 10:10 PM Thanks Kil and Chum for stopping by!
I am back on track today....yippee...1795 calories...way too much fat ... and not enough fiber...I did have plenty of fruit...but no veggies.......9 glasses of water!
No exercise...due to grad class...Monday is my only exercise skip day (oh and when TOM is in town and I feel completely miserable!)...
Thanks for the book selection Chum!
I am off to watch Joe Millionaire...ok...I know...I am a dork...but he is cute...and a castle in France!...Hello!
Oh yeah.....and I will say this now...written in stone...ok...on dt...Curves every Tues. and Thurs.!...That means tomorrow!...I hope they remember me!
heeheehee
mcmarto
Ooooh, Curves tomorrow. How exciting!
I recommend Steinbeck. Tortilla Flat to start if you haven't read it already. Don't know what you like to read or how much you've read before, so you may be saying, "oh geez, I read that ages ago." But you did ask, and I love that book.
mcmarto 01-07-03, 12:02 AM Thanks for the book recommendation!
To tell you the truth Kil...I have a bad memory...but I know I have not read that Steinbeck book!
Sometimes I will start reading a book again...and after so many pages ... realize I already read it!
What can I eat to improve my memory?
Oh...I forgot to add the word of the day in earlier...here it is!
dysphemism (DIS-fuh-miz-em) noun
The substitution of a harsher, deprecating or offensive term in place
of a relatively neutral term.
[From Greek dys- (bad) + -phemism (as in euphemism).]
"There are lots of epithets for people like this - Grammar Nazis, Usage
Nerds, Syntax Snobs, the Language Police. The term I was raised with is
SNOOT. The word might be slightly self-mocking, but those other terms
are outright dysphemisms. A SNOOT can be defined as somebody who knows
what dysphemism means and doesn't mind letting you know it."
David Foster Wallace, Tense Present: Democracy, English, And the Wars
Over Usage, Harper's Magazine (New York), Apr 2001.
hahahaha...mcmarto!
Hi Mc. I don't really know what Curves is all about. Perhaps if you have a chance you could let me know.
I want to use a dysphemism. I actually think I did over in my journal when describing Heidi. She is an assertive and motivated women described by me as a cheap looking money grubbing tramp.
mickeyvoll 01-07-03, 08:36 AM Hi Mc.
Well, it's Curves tonight! I hope you enjoy yourself when you get there. I am pleased that you are filled with renewed motivation - long may it last!
I read a lot of books too - I try and keep a list of what I have read and whether I enjoyed the book or not. I'll have a look and let you know some of the good ones I have read.
chumlette 01-07-03, 10:46 AM Currrrrrves! Wahoo!!!!!! Today is the exciting Tuesday Curves Day!!!! Yippee!!! I am so happy you are motivated again!!!
I love Steinbeck, too. What about Travels with Charley in addition to Tortilla Flat?
You are kicking butt, Mc. I am just so delighted.
mcmarto 01-07-03, 10:11 PM I am very proud of myself today!
Late in the day I began dreading the fact that I was planning on going to Curves......I started having fantasies of getting in the car and driving through a McD's drive thru!
Well...after school...no traffic...smooth sailing...straight to Curves!...I even found a parking spot across the street!...The receptionist remembered me and we chatted for sometime!...She told me she expects to see me on Saturday (Way back in the day...I had requested Saturday hours...they did not have any...only M-F...now they do!)...I am considering it...so then it would be Curves on M...Th...and Sat!
Well.......after Curves I came home to pick up Olive and we went to visit my parents...on the way home I did stop at McD's for a flatbread chicken sandwich (no cheese)...and a snack size fruit and yogurt!...
My calories for today...1440.....wowee!...So low!...I am happy too...full...and content!...I have had 8 glasses of water...I just need more fiber!
Oh...here is some calorie info in case anyone wants it:
McD's flatbread chicken sandwich...520 cals...23 fat...4 fiber
.........w/ out cheese........390 cals...12 fat...4 fiber.........and...without cheese and sauce...320 cals...6 fat...4 fiber!
I like it.......skip the fries of course!
Nanny...visit Curvesforwoman.com.....its a workout place...where you do sort of a circuit training...they can better explain it on the website...its a 30 minute workout and they recommend 3 workouts a week!
Mickeyvoll...I will be looking forward to your book choice!...I did have fun at Curves...it kicked my butt!
Chummers...Thanks so much for all the praise!...I need it...Curves was good...I am sure the next 4 or 5 visits will be tough...but hopefully I can get back into it!...I have already told 2 different friends I plan on hanging with this Saturday and next Saturday that I can't meet them until 11:30 because I have to go to Curves first!
YAHOO!...wORD OF THE DAY!

I'm so proud of you, McMarto!!
Curves Curves Curves, wahoo!
How many cals are in the snack-sized fruit/yogurt/granola thing? I like it and used to get it for breakfast sometimes. Always wondered how much it was. Their website says 380 for the full-sized version, but they don't list the snack-size that I could find.
tootsie 01-08-03, 12:04 AM bfl bfl bfl, hey kilogo:D day 3 and doing great! it really is time. learning more about nutrition everyday. check out the ENERGY magazine. everyone out there, we can do it! gotta go, tootsie
lutha2018 01-08-03, 08:08 AM You should be proud of yourself! I think that the biggest hurdle was going to Curves that one time. One of my friends was telling me that she had joined in Riverside, which is near me but not enough to be convenient. But she said they were open Saturday mornings, and I was surprised. I guess the demand was high enough that they changed that!
Good choice on the flatbread sandwich. I've noticed the ads for those. It's great that you stayed under calories and felt satisfied too!
Well I must get in the shower now, but I wanted to say good for you!
Minnie mouse 01-08-03, 10:21 AM Way to go on curves and your good choices at Mcdonalds.
I was thinking of joining curves but with my kids schedules id never have time to go 3 times a week so i just exercise here.
your doing fantastic.
keep strong and take care.
chumlette 01-08-03, 10:49 AM Wahoo!!! Yippee!!!! Man alive!!!!!!! YOU DID IT!!!!!!!!
:lift: :hop: :lift: :hop: :lift:
I just knew you could do it. The first time is the hardest. I am so darn proud of you I think my head is going to pop off!
fleureange 01-08-03, 03:41 PM Way to go Mcmarto,
Girl, your gonna kick my butt on the inch pinchers challenge if I don't get my butt/ back in gear. LOL
Not gonna let that happen! I'm gonna win LOL.
Really, way to go. I know that dream/fantasy. I see myself doing the exact opposite of what I want to do. I see myself eating a 12 oz steak with all the trimings and watching a movie. Meanwhile, I had planned a chicken stir fri and workout video. Go figure!
(that was fiction. I did not eat the steak LOL)
I'm going to check out the curves site. I had never thought about going there to check it out. I have always meant to stop in while I was in town. The computer is much easier.
Have a great day.
Darlene :hippy:
mcmarto 01-09-03, 02:16 AM Today was a good day!
I had to rush to the grocery store after school then come home and cook up some dinner...it was lowfat and healthy!
I stayed within my calories......actually...pretty low...1300...my fat was too high...fiber good...but I only got in 6 glasses of water today...
I am tired...its been a long day...
The DH's sister (whom he has not talked to in 1 1/2 years) was rushed to the emergency room for a C section...the baby was born with fluid in her brain...her lungs are also not functioning properly and she is on life support...the next 48 hours are crucial...
I am off to visit her and the baby tomorrow...I still e-mail her and we send each other pictures...I hope my DH comes with me but I doubt it...he holds grudges...even with family...
Kilogo...thanks for stopping by...and bringing your friend!...Hi Tootsie!...Hope the BFL is working out!
Lutha...getting to Curves was tough...getting back there again tomorrow will be even tougher!
Minnie Mouse...thanks for stopping by...I am feeling good...hope I stay strong!
Chumlette...keep your head on girl!...Thanks for all the support!...How are you doing?
Fleur...glad you skipped the steak dinner...hope you can keep on track...cause I can!...hahahahaha...Did you do the workout video?
Well ... its late...I have to go now!
pathetic fallacy (puh-THET-ik FAL-uh-see) noun
The attribution of human traits to nature or inanimate objects.
[Coined by John Ruskin in 1856.]
mcmarto
chumlette 01-09-03, 09:46 AM Damn. I was hoping pathetic fallacy was something funnier.
Congratulations, girl, on staying within calories. That is one big achievement for you, Mc. Then today will be Curves and perhaps you can lower the fat and up the water?
I kept my head on, but only until I read about your Curves visit!
Hmm. I would have thought a pathetic fallacy was something that was sadly not true. Silly me.
Hey Toots! Think McMarto would like BFL? She's a calorie counter and a Curves woman.
Go to Curves, Mcmo . . . it should be easier this time! And it'll just keep getting easier and easier!
Do calories from foods eaten while driving count? Or are they like cookie crumbs and nibbles and bits that don't actually apply to the grand total?
:D
chumlette 01-09-03, 05:08 PM I think that if one owns a Fred Flintstone car, where one is required to move one's legs in order to get through the drive through, perhaps eating the Large Fries would only provide fuel and not cellulite.
hmmm.
mcmarto 01-09-03, 07:55 PM Well...another day down...almost!
It is nearly 6...I am at 1290 calories...but...I do plan on eating some more...my max is 1800......I have been pretty low the past 2 days and I feel like I need more food!...I had all 8 glasses today...my fat was lower and my fiber was ok...need more veggies!
I went to Curves even though I was still a little sore...I am still in my workout clothes so I plan on walking on the treadmill...at least for 20 minutes...I am kind of in the mood!...Odd?
Well...the DH's mom called this a.m. to give him a guilt trip (in his words) and to go visit his sister...he did not...I called over and they told me they would call me if anything happened...
Some specialists were supposed to see the baby yet...but I haven't heard anything...
Kilogo...I count all my calories.....this is why I never nibble...or take just one...or just a taste...cause then I am responsible to write all that down!...I just go without!...All or nothing!
Chumlette...I did a little better today...as you know...everyday is different!...I did pass up some chocolate caramels that were in the office...and my assistant and I had to carry a table down 2 flights of stairs and across the bldg...then another table back!...Then when I took the kids out for recess...it was so cold I jogged around the playground for a few mins...I am getting in extra exercise everywhere!...Yahoo!

Hey, McMarto! Sounds like you're on a roll, with a couple of great days strung together. I love when I can do that -- makes me not want to break the chain. I thrive on momentum! :)
Did you start reading any of your books yet?
Lisrey *
mcmarto 01-09-03, 08:57 PM Oh ... how could I forget?
I weighed in today and lost 2 pounds!
Lisrey...thanks for stopping by...I have not gotten to the books yet...need to get to the library...I am falling behind!
Maybe I will start something I have at home!
mcmarto
mcmarto 01-10-03, 08:50 AM Ok...early morning...just wanted to update last night...I had 1840 calories total...fat was just a tiny bit high (I try to stay at 25% of my total day...so a tiny bit high means under 30%)...the fiber was on target........I walked on the treadmill (even though I had gone to Curves!)...for 20 mins...yahoo!
I am a bit stressed...the DH and I are going through some issue's and now with all that is happening with our new baby niece (see above)...I decided to walk out the stress...instead of eat!
Ok...here is the word of the day...
hypercorrection (hi-puhr-kuhr-REK-shun) noun
A grammatical, usage or pronuciation mistake made by `correcting'
something that's right to begin with. For example, use of the word whom in
"Whom shall I say is calling?"
[From Greek hyper- (over) + correction.]
"One explanation is that some people may have been corrected for saying
`bad' in another construction such as `I need money bad' and so in
hypercorrection use `badly' in all constructions. Other use it trying to
be elegant, thinking `feeling bad' is somehow less educated."
Roz Young, The Good Word is Don't Feel Bad About 'Feeling Badly',
The Dayton Daily News, Sep 4, 1993.
"The truth is that hypercorrection isn't grammar's coup de grace. We all
do it occasionally; here's how: Fear of the objective case. This comes as
a shock to we (should be `us') people who care about grammar, but between
you and I (should be `me'), hypercorrection is quite common."
Rob Kyff, The Error of Fixing What Ain't Broke, The Hartford Courant,
Apr 20, 1994.
Have a great day everyone!...mcmarto
mickeyvoll 01-10-03, 10:42 AM Hey McMarto
I hope your little baby neice is okay, it must be very upsetting for your families.
Good for you for walking your stress away - that's the best way to do it and eventually (although possibly not at the time) the most satisfying way to de-stress. At least you don't feel guilty for exercising, like perhaps you might if you had eaten some food to comfort you (I am speaking from experience here!!!).
Best of all though, congratulations for the 2lb loss!
Congrats on the 2 pound loss!!!!
I am sorry to hear about you baby niece. How is she doing? Any word?
Andrea
mcmarto 01-10-03, 08:28 PM Thanks Mickevoll and Nanny for stopping by!
I am proud of myself for walking...you are so right...you can't feel guilty about that!...You can only feel good...and I felt good!
My niece is in ICU...she was worse yesterday then today...they are looking for blood donations.......so the DH and I are going to do that.......(his way...I suppose of helping out)...her name by the way...is Miabella........
Well...so far it has been a good day!...I passed up an offer to eat out today at school for lunch......I also passed up buying a whole package of Oreo's!...I did buy a small package which I will share with the DH...mmmmmm!
I cooked today...black beans...white rice...and some pork chops...mmm...Cuban style!
Tomorrow I am off to the University library to look up articles for my literature review.......yuck!...I have already pre-planned to eat at Chili's.......off the guiltless gril menu!...Yahoo!
I hope everyone has a great weekend!
mcmarto
Hey McMarto, you sound great.
Dinner sounds yummy, too. Cuban!
Good for you on all the good things you are doing for yourself.
Exercising while stressed is always a good idea. Always. You are so smart.
mcmarto 01-10-03, 09:17 PM Thanks Kilogo!
You are doing so good too!...
I forgot to mention here...I bought some Kashi...Good Friends cereal...it is ok...has 150 calories...and 10 grams of fiber!...
mcmarto
patricians2001 01-10-03, 09:37 PM Hi Mc.
Just checking to see how you are doing, because I remembered that you were trying to get yourself to Curves. I thought I may join, but I'd probably be the same way.
I hope your niece is coming along. It is good if your hubby will give blood. My sister had extremely premature twins last year.(1 pound, 1 ounce; and 2 pounds 4 ounces) When she went into very early labour her husband was away on business, and the one she called was our bachelor brother. I am the oldest of six, they are the two youngest. They had very serious rows growing up, but it was amazing how he came through for her. They are miracle babies and it is wonderful how they have helped to erase several long standing rifts in our family. So I hope your niece does as well.
What is your literature search on? I'm in education too. Just curious!
Pat
mcmarto 01-11-03, 09:15 AM Hey Pat!...Funny you stopped by and mentioned Curves!...I am debating whether I want to go or not today...they open at 9..it is 7 now!...I should go...its only 5 mins away...and a 35 min workout (including the stretch)...
My literature review is on...well.......I am searching for literature that deals with teaching sight words and spelling...My action based research project is titled...Best practices for teaching Sight Words in a Cross Category Classroom.......something like that...unfortunately I have had to change the topic twice...I am just going to do a major search today and then be set for my project!...

sorry about your niece and pray things go ok for her.
on another note great job on the walking and congrats on the 2 pound loss. :ribbon:
keep up the good work.
enjoy your weekend and take care.
mcmarto 01-11-03, 08:00 PM Hey Minnie...thanks for stopping by!
Well...I am happy to report...I have had 1580 calories today...my fat is good...24%...fiber too low...So far I have had 5 glasses of water...just need 3 more!
I just got back from the library...I found close to 25 journal articles...hopefully 15 of them work!
I know a lot of you hate chain restaurants...but I went to Chili's today for an early dinner...they have 3 guiltless grill menu items that are delicious!...I had the chicken breast platter today which also included some rice...fresh .. crisp veggies and some sweet corn...it was 650 calories and only 9 grams of fat!...Filling too!...I felt like I was cheating...but I wasn't!
Tomorrow is my nephew's fifth birthday...their will be b-day cake involved...so I will have to be strong!...
I am off to rest and relax ... read some magazines...maybe watch a movie...the DH has gone out...so I get the remote back!...Yahoo!
*********Oh yeah...I went to Curves today!...It was a bit crowded (since they are only open 2 hours on Saturdays and its fairly new)...but......it was ok!...That's 3 times this week Kil and Chum...I hope I am making you both proud!...hahahahahaha!
Tomorrow...treadmill...or my new 2 mile walking tape!
Have a nice night...
mcmarto
3 times this week! I am proud and impressed and thrilled for you!
I just have a problem with fast food. Chain restaurants can have some decent offerings. Looks like you found one, whoo hoo! Sounds tasty.
How's your poor little niece doing? Did you give blood yet? Did DH?
Be strong :dn .
Great job, Mc, going to Curves! It sounds like it's really conveniently located for you, so you should be able to make yourself feel good and guilty if you don't go. :ha:
Maybe you said & I just forgot, but how many calories do you shoot for each day? Hope your weekend is a good one!
Lisrey
Mcmarto, So sorry to hear about your little neice. That must be so scary for you all, especially the mom and dad. Will be praying for her.
You are doing great with the loss and walking, go for it.
Also hoping you and hubby are doing okay, I hate those times when we don't click just right. Take care.
Badelle 01-12-03, 12:12 AM Mcmarto,
I'm sorry to hear about your niece. I'll be praying for her. Have you heard any word yet???
Great job on the workouts! There's a Curves right down the street from me, but I've never checked it out. It may be something for the future.
Talk to you soon.
mcmarto 01-12-03, 10:01 PM I had a good day today!
I got up early and cleaned house...even got the DH to mop and throw some garbage out!
I did my 2 mile walking tape (first time)...its not too challenging but I enjoyed it!...I think it will be my Sunday tape!...
I went to my nephews 5th birthday ... I measured my beans, rice, and avocado salad...I passed up the beef and said no to the cake!...Did you hear me?...I passed up cake!...I feel so good about it too!
Well...I have had 1500 calories...and only about 21% fat!...I need more veggies...and calcium.........fiber was perfect!...I am on my last glass of water as I type!
Kilogo...Thanks so much!...In regards to my niece...she is off the respirator...breathing on her own...they have to run several tests now...so we are still waiting!
Lisrey...Hey girl...I am happy that Curves opened up...and even happier that I am going again and not wasting the money!...I eat a minimum of 1400 calories a day...and my max is 1800!
Crazy...Thanks for stopping by...DH and I had a long talk this a.m....hopefully things will get to where they need to go!
Badelle...You should definitely check Curves out...just try it out for the free week!...I think you will like it!
Hope everyone has a great week!...My assistant (whom has worked with me for 5 years) becomes my student teacher tomorrow!...Yes.......she is almost done!...She will be working as my student teacher for the next 8 weeks......then they will have to find a replacement for her!...She will be missed...she is a great assistant!
I also have my grad class tomorrow...I think she is keeping us an extra hour...so...it will be a looooooong...day!...Talk tomorrow night!
mcmarto
lutha2018 01-12-03, 11:54 PM Mcmarto, I am so proud of you! You are doing all the right things: staying within calories, pre-planning for sticky situations, passing up cake, and exercising regularly! It's no wonder that you had that two pound loss. And there is more sure to come!
I'm sorry to hear about your niece. It sounds like things may be improving a bit...keep us informed.
I hope this thesis topic works out for you. I can't claim to understand it, but then my topic was pretty obscure to the uninitiated too: Congestion Pricing on the State Route 14 Freeway.
chumlette 01-13-03, 12:59 PM Wahoo! Go, Mc, Go!!!!!!!!
Exercise. Passing up Cake. Measuring your portions.
YOU ARE DOING SO AMAZINGLY WELL.
:super: :super: :super: :super:
Did you watch???
What did you think?
I had my tiny synopsis over in my journal...
Andrea
mcmarto 01-13-03, 11:41 PM Another day down!
I got out of class just in time to watch Joe Millionaire!...Woohoo!
Well.........my calories were a little over today...1880...but my fat was good...fiber good...fruits and veggies good...I needed a little more calcium!...Oh...I had all 8 glasses of water too!
I picked up some Boston Market before I went to class...and I got a great meal of turkey...stuffing...sweet potatoes...and green beans with a mini-cornbread muffin for only 820 calories...and the fat was at about 26%!!!...It was so good and satisfying!
Class was boring...but now the next two Mondays I am free...and I only have two more classes left!...I have tons of HW to do ... and my literature review to work on!.........So I am getting a little stressed.........but in the end it will be ok!
I hope everyone had a great Monday!
I can't wait until Friday...the DH and I are going on another date...and...its my free day!...
Oh...did you notice my stats!...I peeked at the scale today!...
Tomorrow is a Curves day...yahoo!

mickeyvoll 01-14-03, 09:31 AM Hey McMarto
Everything seems to be coming together for you at the moment, what with the diet and exercise - I'm really pleased for you.
I'm also glad to read that your little baby neice is doing better. That must be a relief to you all.
Have a great day.
patricians2001 01-14-03, 01:54 PM Hi Mc;
Glad to hear things are going better with the baby. Coming off the respirator is the big step.
Know what? When I was going my masters and teaching full time, I came out at the end of it with the masters and about 40 extra pounds! Everything was just a blur time wise. So you are doing great! Also your topic didn't seem obscure to me! Don't know about that one about the California highway though!
Pat
mcmarto 01-14-03, 07:15 PM Its me!
I feel so terrible...I have been PMS'ing all day...late this afternoon TOM arrived.........I can do no exercise when this happens...so I came straight home after school and took a 20 minute nap!
I am getting ready to have my dinner...I have 980 calories left...but I have this pizza baking that has 1,360 calories!...Ahhhhhhhh...no one here to share it with...no one to stop me from eating it!
Ok...I just cut it in half...hope this goes well...be back later!
...Mikeyvoll...thanks...these next 3 days will be a challenge...I am always so miserable during the first few days of TOM!...
Pat...glad my topic makes some kind of sense!...Did you have to do an action research project?...What was your topic!...I hope to lose 40 pounds (or more) but the time I am done in May 2004!

mcmarto 01-14-03, 09:37 PM Hey Darlene!...Thanks for stopping by...you better get your butt in gear!

patricians2001 01-14-03, 11:51 PM Thanks for the link mcmarto;

My masters was so long ago i don't really remember what my reseach project was! It was something about different methods about teaching reading. I teach teachers in reading recovery nowI had to do a years training for that too, so i remember all of that better.
pat
lutha2018 01-15-03, 12:09 PM The Boston Market stores which were convenient to me closed. I'm not sure whether there are any still in Southern California. Still, it is great that you have found another place to get some healthy food you can track.
I thought you said pizza was one of your biggest weaknesses...you are really getting in the groove now, if you can put some back which was already on your plate!
You are doing awesome, keep it up!
mcmarto 01-15-03, 07:43 PM Pat...so what is ... teachers in reading recovery?
Lutha...I know...such restraint...just put that weakness back!...I was proud of myself!
Ok...I feel like crap...got to Costco and my debit card was missing...called the DH and he had it...so...I had to drive back to pick it up (wasting 30 minutes of my day)...I am now home...going to head out for girls night soon...my friend is cooking...salad and chicken...I don't know if their will be anything else...she is on WW so it should be low calorie!
Now...the reason I went to Costco...oh...I went to buy some Nonni Biscotti.....oh...I had one last week...and thoughts of the damn thing have been swimming in my head!...Its a daily...or every other day treat!...While I was there...I picked up piroulines too!...They are stuffed with a chocolate hazelnut center!...Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...can we say...TOM in town?
Oh well...I will control myself!
I am off...
Oh...here is the word of the day.........
humble pie (HUM-buhl pi) noun
Humiliation in the form of apology or retraction. Often used in the
phrase "to eat humble pie".

to the word humble. The phrase "an umble pie" itself was made by false
splitting from "a numble pie". Numbles or nombles are edible animal entrails.
The words came to us from Latin via French.]
..Oh...I wonder what humble pie tastes like?...Just kidding!....
mcmarto
fleureange 01-15-03, 09:14 PM Humble pie eh? Thought that sounded a bit familiar till I read edible animal entrails. Yuck! Nope, not going to eat that EVER!
I hope you have a great girls night out. Sounds like fun. I also think it's a great idea.
Darlene :hippy:
Minnie mouse 01-15-03, 09:40 PM Hope your dinner and girls night is wonderful.

mcmarto 01-16-03, 01:23 AM Thanks Fleur and Minnie!
My friends whom I met in College grew up in a suburb about 55 miles outside of Chicago...well...after graduation I helped them find an apartment a block away from mine!...One of them has since moved out and in with her fiance...so she drives in and we all hang out every Wednesday night..........for over 4 years now!...Its tradition!
Well...I did have a good time...we had a good ... healthy dinner!...I am at 1450 calories today...25% fat...to low on calcium...and fiber...and I needed a few more f/v's...I only had 6 glasses of water!...........But overall it was good!
I am honest with myself...I know I am not always going to get 3 fruits and 3 veggies...or all my fiber!...But I am trying everyday!
I am off to sleep........I am so tired!
mcmarto
Sounds like fun, McMarto. You are continuing to do very well. Go you!
When's the next trip to Curves?
And what book are you reading?
chumlette 01-16-03, 05:50 PM You are really keeping it up, aren't you? I am delighted.

I'm so proud of you. You are doing great. I feel so much better eating well today. I'll tell ya, alot of that has to do with you. I see how well you're sticking to your plan, and I see that it really can be done. I mean REALLY can.

Keep it up and you just MIGHT win the challenge. ;)
Darlene :hippy:
chumlette 01-17-03, 11:01 AM Yahoo for time off! Yahoo for eating right again! I am so proud of you!!!
But boo hiss, for not working out on TOM. I mean, come ON, Mc. NO ONE (and I mean NO ONE) has TOM more than me. Every two weeks and for 7-21 days at a time. I get weak and crampy and grumpy and bloated and am generally a horrible sad sack excuse for a human being.
But dammit, I still exercise (most of the time). And so should you.
The girlish days of Junior High are over, girl, where you can get out of gym class b/c you are TOMming.
No excuses. Go to Curves. Keep your appointment.
Go Mcmarto! You can do it!!!!!:coach: :coach: :coach:
Did you go to Curves?
Dinner sounds tasty and healthy. Very cool.
Sometimes working out while TOMing makes you feel better.
mcmarto 01-17-03, 08:01 PM Helloooooooo!
Guess what...TOM is gone...and I was back at Curves today!...When I got home I also walked another 20 mins on my treadmill!...Yahoo!
Oh...and I am so sorry...but my TOM generally doesn't last more then 3-4 days....but when I have it ... I am to grossed out and feel to uncomfortable to workout!...I think I am going to stink or leak!...So nothing will change my mind on that one!
I am off to make some dinner.......will post my calories later...
Here is the word of the day...
tantalize (TAN-tuh-lyz) verb tr., also tantalise
To tease or torment by showing something desirable but keeping it out
of reach.
[After Tantalus in Greek mythology. Tantalus, a king of Lydia, was condemned
to stand in Hades chin deep in water and under fruits that receded whenever
he tried to drink water or eat the fruit.]
....My sentence.......Those brownies are so tantalizing!...hahahaha!
Fleur...you better get your butt in gear!...I am going to win...win..win I say!...But in the end...aren't we all winners?
Chumlette...did you read above!...I do not exercise during TOM...trust me I felt a little guilty the last 3 days!...But today I did well.....tomorrow I am going back to Curves...and...I am going to get my step out and do a tape when I get home!...Promise!
Kilogo.....my dinner was so good....and can you believe the DH ended up eating my dinner...plus another meal 2 hours later!...Pfft!
Be back later!...
mcmarto
mcmarto 01-17-03, 08:04 PM Oh...and Monday I am off...so...its another Curves day!...I will go 4 times next week......Yahoo!
mcmarto
mcmarto 01-18-03, 04:00 AM Ok...I ended up having Subway for dinner...
I had 1770 calories today...my fat was low...I got in all my fiber and f & v's...I drank all 8 glasses of water...I just needed some more calcium!
Yay!........But...I fell asleep at 9:30-12:00...and now I have been up for 2 hours!...I am getting ready to go back to bed!
Tomorrow or I should I say today is my free day!...I am going to pick up some groceries in the a.m....then to Curves...then back home to do a video or the treadmill!
I am meeting my friends at 3...we are going to watch 3 of the movies from our list....and learn how to knit!...She is making us sloppy joe's...I am bringing over mac n cheese and brownies...I am sure we will have other snacks too........I will enjoy...but not overdo it!
Have a great weekend everyone!...Talk to you all on Sunday!
mcmarto
mcmarto 01-18-03, 10:20 AM Oh...just wanted to let you all know!...I am down to 217!
Yahoooooooooooo...I am off to Curves!...mc
mcmarto 01-19-03, 06:47 PM Ok...here I am...getting ready to go out to dinner and a movie!
Yesterday was my free day...very free!...I had some homemade sloppy joe's...chips...some brownies...and way too many buffalo wings to count!...I did workout...went to Curves in the a.m.!
I had my first knitting lesson...so far I have a long...very thin scarf!...hahahahaha!
I began feeling a little guilty last night due to the excessive eating...but...this a.m. I got it together...worked out...2 mile tape...30 mins on treadmill...and 10 mins of squats and leg lifts!
I had some high fiber cereal for breakie...and I made some chicken and rice for lunch!
I hope everyone is doing well!
I feel good................be back later with my calorie totals!
mcmarto
Wahoo! Down to 217!
I must say this seems to be a fundamental change for you, my dear Mcmarto. You're focusing on doing the right things for yourself instead of trying to figure out what you can skip eating so that you can fit in your McDonald's ice cream cones into your calorie limit. I'm so PROUD of you! To healthy eating and exercise!
Yes, Mc, I totally agree with Kilogo! You're doing great things! You have the right attitude and you are going for it! It's wonderful to see you so focused and so ready to tackle the challenges that face you each day.
Way to go on the 217! :balloons:
Lisrey
mcmarto 01-19-03, 10:57 PM Thanks Kil...Thanks Lisrey!
But...I can fit that cone in any old day!...I just am trying to limit my sweets...heeheehee!
Well no movie and dinner out for me!...The DH couldn't find pants to wear...he was complaining it was too cold...claimed he wanted to go to the movies earlier (when I was exercising)...blah...blah...blah!
So I got dressed and walked Olive...then came in and made dinner (burgers and fries)...all made in the oven...thank you very much!...Tastey and filling too!
I had 1600 calories today...my fat was too high...about 29%...My fiber was good.......not enough f & v's...only 2 really!...I have drank up all my water for the day...and I exercised for over an hour!
Yahoo!
Well.........I am off to finish reading all of my January magazines!
Tomorrow...no school!...I am getting up early to do laundry...then go to Curves (they close at 10:30...then don't re-open until 2)...so I want to get there in the a.m....
When I get home I am going to watch TV all afternoon...then cook up another fabulous lunch/dinner!
Who knows!...I might just get to the movies tomorrow night?
Oh well...have a great week everyone!
We can do this...we will do this!
mcmarto
fleureange 01-20-03, 10:31 AM Hey Girl! You are doing soooo good. 217! WOW You go girl.
I sooo admire you .I admire your dedication to your food plan and exercise. You made a commitment, and you're sticking to it.
Congrats, you deserve it. (ok, you just might deserve to win the challenge if you keep this up) (JUST MIGHT!)hehehehe
hugs,
Darlene :hippy:
mcmarto 01-20-03, 12:09 PM Thanks Fleur!...I am trying...each day is a challenge!
For example...today...I was supposed to get up early and go do laundry...then head to Curves right after!...Well...I shut the alarm off and went back to sleep for another 30.......then laid in bed for another 20!...I am sore!...Sore from yesterday's mega workout!
So...I got cozy with a blanket and opened up a week's worth of mail!...I made myself a nice breakfast!...I have decided laundry will have to wait until Wednesday after work...or maybe until Saturday a.m.!
In regards to Curves...I am skipping it today.....I usually don't go on Mondays...I actually don't workout on Mondays cause of work and grad school!...I am off all day...but I feel so lazy!
hmmmmmmmm...I may get my butt on the treadmill or do my 2 mile tape!...We'll have to wait and see!
This a.m. I had one of those moments where I just wanted to give up!...I just wanted to eat...and not count...I kind of still do ... but I know I can't give in!...I must get passed this and realize that these moments will come and go!...In the end I will feel and look so much better if I overcome them!
I will be strong!
Later my only plans are to maybe take a ride out to Trader Joe's and my brothers seafood store (right next door)...I want to add some fish into my diet...at least once a week!...The DH said the only fish he will eat is Tilapia...but my brother will make some other fish recommendations!...As long as it tastes like chicken...its fine with me!...hahahahahaha!
I am off to drink up my water!

mcmarto
Great that you're not sickly! That's a relief. Maybe it was something you ate. Or maybe you fought it off successfully.
And you're feeling good after going to Curves! That's exciting.
Go go go McMarto.
mcmarto 01-21-03, 10:42 PM Ok...I ate 1610 calories...fat too high...30%...I did well with my f & v's...and with my water (drank up all 8 glasses)...but too low on fiber!
I am off to relax!
Oh...I forgot to mention...my little pug friend "Chato" is coming over tomorrow night!...He is staying until Monday night...his parents are off to Miami!
I think Olive is annoyed.....but...hopefully they will get along better now (he is almost 1)...and...he won't have any accidents in my apt!
mcmarto
fleureange 01-21-03, 10:42 PM I'm so glad to hear your feeling better. I would have felt sooooooooooooo guilty taking advantage of your sick days to increase my chances of winning the challenge. hehehehe.
Really, I'm glad you're well.
I'm going to see if I have some free time tomorrow. I'd like to check out curves myself. It's in the next town and not sure if I can make the comittment. I'll just go in and see.
After all, I invested in about 10 aerobic videos, the weider gym, the treadmill and free weights. I should give them a chance too.
Doesn't hurt to look into it.
Hope you have a great day tomorrow. Stay healthy.
Darlene
Bettyboop 01-21-03, 10:45 PM How do you keep track of your fiber? Is that carbs? I'm so confused!:o I like your little saying by Confusious.. it's so true!.. Have a great night! Just wanted to say HI!:D
mcmarto 01-23-03, 12:50 AM Hello!
Its me...finally got a chance to stop by!
After work today I had to head to the grocery store...then home to cook and prep for my dinner!...Then over to my friends where we had dinner...I came home early to clean up a bit then Chato arrived!
He has gotten so big!...He is bigger then Olive and outweighs her by at least 2 or 3 pounds (and in pug pounds that is a lot!)...He is alreayd playing the jealous act...pushing Olive away from me...and the little brat already took a small leak in my kitchen!...He was brought over only with his little bed...no cage!...AHHHHHHHHHHHH...I hope he is a good dog during the night!...I will have to lock him in the bedroom with us...hopefully he won't try to get cozy with us on the bed!
I did well today...Calories were at 1630...fat good...27%...Fiber good...f and v's very good.......I have only had 4 glasses of water and it is almost 11!...Ahhhhhhhhhh...but I will drink them all...or else I cannot go to bed!
Tomorrow its work...then Curves...then home to walk the pugs!...It is so cold here tonight...they say it will be the coldest night of the winter!
Here is the word of the day...
Goth (goth) noun
A rude or uncivilized person.

the third, fourth and fifth centuries.]
"Meanwhile, his (Newt Gingrich's) pronunciamentos swing wildly between

Fleur...Thanks for stopping by girl!...I am glad the flu-like symptoms I had came and went!...I continue to do well...I put on some pants today that I had not worn in about 3 weeks and they were a little loose!...Yahoo!
Betty Boop...Hello to you!...Thanks for stopping by!...Fiber is listed in all the packaged foods you eat...and/or you can look it up in your calorie books...or online at www.calorieking.com ... it is recommended that we get between 25-35 grams of fiber a day!...Fiber is what helps us feel full!...Most fruits...veggies...and whole grains have a lot of fiber!...I am currently eating a Kashi cereal that has 10 grams of fiber per serving!
Hope everyone has a great Thursday!
mcmarto
fleureange 01-23-03, 10:00 AM Mcmarto, Way to go on getting into those pants. It's working!
Sounds like you got your hands full with Chato. Hope he behaved last night. :D
Did you dring the rest of your water? I can feel it.... wait..... it's coming to me....yes....yes..... you did drink it all, and you were up only 3 times in the night to pee. hehehe
Have a great day at work and have fun at Curves. Looks like a great place to workout.
Bye for now.
Darlene :hippy:
Hey you ! Look at you go !
:balloons:
You sound so happy and full of energy !! I am so happy for ya Mc !
I hope chato doesnt leave presents for you... you are a good friend to give the little bugger a temp place to pee
Keep kicking ass !!
Peng
Do pug pounds weigh less than people pounds? Just curious. Maybe I could lose pug pounds and it would seem as if I were losing more weight more quickly.
Ew, did Chato pee on the bed last night? Or was he a good pug. Where does Olive sleep? Is she going to be mad that he got the bedroom?
Such pug strife you have.
And you continue to amaze and impress on the health and fitness front. What fat % are you aiming for? I go for 30%, personally.
Do you watch South Park, Bettyboop? "Fiber helps you poo."
mickeyvoll 01-23-03, 03:18 PM Hi McMarto
You are doing so well! Are you feeling more energetic - you definitely sound it.
Thanks for the laughs about Chato - I know it's not funny that he pee'd in the kitchen, but just the way you put it made me laugh. I have a cat and she pees on the duvet, so she's not allowed in our bedroom (or any bedroom come to think of it) without supervision! I hope Olive's nose isn't put too much out of place, at least it's only for a short visit this time!
lutha2018 01-23-03, 04:34 PM If you really drank down another four glasses of water the other night, I'm guessing that you were up peeing all night!
Way to go on the exercising and staying within calories! You are doing wonderfully. I for one can't give you a hard time about having a sundae, since I have ice cream fairly often (within calories as a general rule).
I'm glad you didn't get sick after all. You are on such a roll, nothing dares to derail you.
I went to see Catch Me If You Can on Monday. Have you seen that one yet? I can hardly believe your DH cancelled your date because he couldn't find the pants he wanted to wear. And they say women are particular!
mcmarto 01-23-03, 08:48 PM Well...last night was fun!...Chato came with a cage last visit...but this time he only showed up with a comfy little bed!...Well...Olive sleeps in our bed...usually right in between the DH and I ... close to our feet!...So Chato tried to come up too...but the DH yelled rather loudly..."No!...Go lay down!"...and it seemed to work!
He cried a little after his pop left...but besides the mini-pee incident he has been a good pug!
I got home and they were both so excited to see me!...With all the pug action this a.m....I forgot my gym bag...so...I went to the bank and Costo instead...I am getting ready to have my dinner soon...I will be walking on the treadmill...and...going to Curves tomorrow!
My calories for the day...1635...fat good...28%...calcium good...fiber ok...f & v's good...water...so far only 4 glasses...I must guzzle 4 more down!
I did drink up all my water last night...and I did get up twice to pee!...hmpf!
Here is the word of the day...
pharaoh (FAR-o) noun, also Pharaoh

2. A tyrant.

Pengii...I am feeling good...and a little thinner!...heeheehee!...This little joker better not leave me any presents...he left me enough on his last visit!
Kilogo...Olive sleeps with me...Chato took a pee on the kitchen floor...I have my bedroom blocked off (for fear he will get my bed)...I shoot for 25% fat a day...but 30% is my max...so if I am between its good...
Mickeyvoll...You are welcome...and yes...you are right...I do have more energy!...
Lutha...Thanks for stopping by!...I did see that movie...I thought it was OK!...

Well...I had a surprise waiting for me today at work...one of my students was transferring...no notice!...I will miss him...he is moving to Greece!
Ok...I am now down to 10 kids...and 2 are resource so I only see them once a week!...This is low...but I soon expect at least 3 new students...meetings coming soon!
I am off to eat my dinner...some pasta and eggplant parmigiana!
mmm mmm good!
mcmarto
Hi Mc,
So....your Alison got the boot. Do you think Z will last??
Did you watch the Bachelorette? I don't get Russ.... I think Charlie is hot but perhaps a bit of a poser.
Your dinner sounds yummy!!!
mcmarto 01-23-03, 09:35 PM Hey Nanny!
I had posted in your journal about the bachelorette and poof...it disappeared!
I hope Z opens up a bit and pulls through...if not...I think it just may be Mojo...eyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!
I love Charlie...even though he is a bit greasy!...But the other guy looks like a psycho-Lance Burton...then their is the poetic justice guy...hahahahahaha!...I think the guy with the eye's ...or Charlie will win!
My dinner was yummy!...mmm mmm good!
I will just have everyone know...The mind games were trying to take a hold of me...I started thinking I should just stop and eat whatever the hell I want...but I won't do it!...

I am off to walk on the treadmill!
Have a nice night...mcmarto
fleureange 01-24-03, 12:04 AM Oh those dreaded mind games! Good for you on not giving in.
How did you over come them? what did you do instead?
Glad you got all your water in. I just knew you'd be up through the night. drat. I hope you drink up early enough tonight as not to disturb your sleep.
And, Way to go on that pound!!!!!
You're doing great!
Have a great day tomorrow. Like you told me, watch out for those mind games. They like to sneak up on you when you least expect it.
Stay strong.
We can do this.
We will do this.
Huggggs,
Darlene :hippy:
chumlette 01-24-03, 12:13 PM Mc, I want you to know that I am really proud of you and all your hard work. Believe me, I know how hard it really is. But you've been keeping up with the exercising and fending off the snacking monsters in the evenings and drinking some water. I think you are onto a splendid start to the year!
mcmarto 01-24-03, 08:30 PM Hey...Hey...Hey!
It is a little after 6 and I am done eating for the day :(
This actually saddens me a bit...I feel like I want to eat more...and more...and more...but I am not even hungry...
My calories for the day...1680...fat high...30%...fiber good...f & v's not good...calcium ok...........water...so far 6 glasses...will have the next two soon!
Last night I actually went for 35 mins on the treadmill (5 extra)...Watch out!...hahahahaha!...I went to Curves today after school........then I came home and ran with the pugs up and down the street...it is just too cold!
At school today they were selling candy for a fundraiser...the good kind that has the soft caramel in the middle!...Well...I bought 5!...I gave one to each of my asst's and one to the DH!...This leaves me with two!...I am looking forward to having one tomorrow........no calories left for today!...

fleureange 01-24-03, 09:22 PM Enjoy your chocolate bar tomorrow. Think of me when you eat it LOL
Watch out for those snack attacks tonight. Since your finished your cals for the day, he may try to rear his ugly head at you.

mcmarto 01-24-03, 09:31 PM Thanks Fleur!
"Its my life...its now or never...I ain' t gonna live forever"
hahahahahaha!
I have been online now for 95 mins fighting off the evil attacker who pushes snacks!
I will be ok...I will walk the attacker out of my system if I have too!
mcmarto
The best thing about that evil snack pusher is that every time you fight him off he comes back weaker and wearker. Soon he'll go away altogether.
I love how you are going to Curves regularly now. "Just going to Curves, no big deal." Way to go!
mcmarto 01-25-03, 09:47 AM Well...I made it...and I did not have a snack attack!
I was online for 2 hours...then I watched a little TV for an hour...then I had to brave the cold and walk the pugs...I then got back online for another 90 mins...one of my friends was online and she told me to call her so we gabbed for close to 90 mins!
By this time it was 1:00 a.m.........so I successfully kept myself busy and did not give in to temptation!
I weighed in today at 215!!!!...I am 7 pounds down and feeling good!
I am on my way to Target...then off to Curves!
Have a great day everyone!
mcmarto
fleureange 01-25-03, 03:59 PM :balloons: Yahooowie!!!
Congrats at keeping the snack monster at bay. That takes guts lady, and you did it!
 Congrats also on the lose of 7 ugly, terrible, yucky, stinkin pounds gone ....FOREVER!!!!
You are doing so good. You should be so proud of yourself. I am proud of you that's for sure.
Keep it up and you will be on "Target" and you'll have those curves too. LOL
Have a wonderul time at curves and have a great day.
Darlene :hippy:
mcmarto 01-25-03, 07:41 PM Thanks Fleur!
I was so busy this a.m....I went to Target and bought some new bed stuff (it was all on sale)...then...I headed over to the bank...then Curves...after Curves I went to the teacher store around the corner but they did not have what I wanted!...My last stop was to McD's to pick up a fruit n' yogurt parfait...actually two...one for today...one for tomorrow!
So far so good.........except that Chato took a mini-whiz on my bathroom carpet...I stopped him and ran him outside but the damage was already done!...That's two accidents...I guess he is improving!
I am off to clean up the kitchen and bathroom.....then to start dinner...and walk on the treadmill...all by 7...The DH and I have a date to watch Lord of the Rings today!...Fun!
Ok...tomorrow........Laundry...ick...then home to do my 2 mile tape...then squats, lunges, and other exercises to make my legs look marvelous!...
After this...I must work on my grade book........and the entire afternoon will be devoted to the food network and reading magazines!...Yahoo!
........Did I fail to mention that I have more energy now?!...I told myself this new year that I would stop being lazy and get off my butt and do more cleaning...etc...and so far so good!................
As soon as it gets warmer I am going to start cleaning up the three rooms in my house that are stuffed with junk...so messy!
Ok...I am off...post my calories later...
mcmarto
Wow, Mcmarto's on fire! Look at her go! 7 lbs down is utterly wonderful. You must be very pleased with yourself (as well you should be).
Go go go McMarto !
You are doing great! Congratulations on the 7 big ones! :tongue:arty: That is just awesome.
You have all this energy & you are so busy... I am thinking you still haven't started one of your books, have you? LOL, that's okay as long as you are concentrating on all this good stuff.
Wanted to tell you that I signed up for a month at Curves yesterday! I want to add strength training & this seems like an easy way to get it in... we'll see how I do!
Lisrey :bubbles:
fleureange 01-25-03, 10:04 PM I love those fruit parfaits from McD's. They are so yummy.
I hope you enjoyed the movie. I didn't like the end. It felt like they forgot to give us the second video to pop in. I'll wait till next Dec. for part 3 to come out and I'll see them all at once.
I did really like it though.
Hope your Sunday is just as nice as today was.
Darlene :hippy:
I want to go to Target. I hate that it isn't here in Canada. It is so unfair. You sound so perky it is wonderful. Please send me the perky vibes. I am more of a blob today. I am hungover (a rare thing for me). Tomorrow will be different. I am off to the gym and I am going to tackle my room. Perhaps I will visit Target online...
Enjoy your movie.
Andrea
Mcmarto,
Wow, you are doing just fantastic!!! I am totally impressed AND inspired. Thank you, I really needed it.
I hope you had a wonderful date, did you like the movie?
Have a good Sunday, thank you for your unfailing friendship and keeping in touch even when I am not keeping in touch very well. You are a treasure. Thanks.:gift:
mcmarto 01-26-03, 09:47 AM Well last night went well...I ended up with 1570 calories...30% fat (too high)...good on f & v's...good on calcium...fiber way too low...and I had all 8 glasses of water...plus Curves and 30 mins on treadmill (working with light weights for upper body)
I spoke with one of my co-workers...she went out and bought me the 3 mile walking tape since I told her the 2 mile wasn't that challenging...what a sweetheart (not!)...hahahahaha!
I did have that chocolate bar yesterday...well half...my fat was a bit too high...so eating the entire thing would have put me over 30% so the DH and I shared it instead!
I did enjoy the movie...but...it was a little dark at times...some of those people just looked so scary...I had to walk away twice (well really just to get my dinner and my snack!)...hahahahaha!
........It's offical...today...I really have no clothes left to wear!...Why?...Cause I am to lazy to go to the laundromat...actually it snowed last night and when I went out about 45 mins ago to walk the pugs...it was just to cold to go!...I doesn't help that the DH is still snoring away...not fair...So...since I have no grad class tomorrow night...I may just take it with me to work...then do it after school!
Fun!...hmpft!
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
Kilogo...I am oh...so...pleased!...The DH told me last night that he can tell...and...that he is jealous!-Good!
Lisrey...Um...no...(she says sadly)...I have not started a book yet...but today I will...it is called Cold Snap by Thom Jones...its a collection of 10 short stories...Have you ever heard of it?...Why am I starting this book?...Its the only one I have and I need to read!...Congrats on the Curves!...You are going to love it!
Fleur...How are you doing?...Hope everything is going well...
Nanny...I will be by your journal to send you the vibes soon!...I love Target too...I have been there way to many times this year alone...spending way too much money...but I swear...I needed it all!
Crazy 2...No...Thank you!...hahahahahaha!...
Ok...I am off to find something to do...
I do have to leave the house to go to the grocery store for a few things...but this may also have to wait until tomorrow...cause I hate braving the cold!
%%%%%%%%%%%%Oh...one more thing...last week....Saturday was my free day...I made brownies to take to my friends house (these are my absolute favorite sweet to eat)...well...I had 4 left at home...I had the DH eat one...then one day I fit one in to my calories........Well...I will have you know that last night I threw the last two out?...I was tempted by them a week ago...and this week had no problem getting rid of them!.............Yahoo....%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
mcmarto
Thanks for the vibes.I got them. I am off to the gym today. I may do the hip hop class.
I think throwing out the brownies was a very smart thing to do.
Congrats.
mcmarto 01-26-03, 10:26 AM Thanks Nanny!...
You go...go...go!
I am off to wash dishes or something...been online too long 90 mins so far...eeek!
mcmcmcmcmcmcmcmcmc
Hey, Mc!
Isn't it a great feeling when you have so much momentum that your willpower becomes super-strong? I know that's what happened to you with those brownies! Good for you! * As long as you can hold on to it, keep this feeling!
I haven't heard of your book. You'll have to report back in the book circle thread & let us know how it is. I am not usually big on short stories. I am almost done re-reading "The Two Towers." Sweetie & I will be seeing the film next weekend, I hope. Are you wanting to go see it, now that you've seen the first one?
Hey, I will tell you the same thing I told Fleur: be careful using those arm weights while on the treadmill. It's okay to use them for ballast, but you shouldn't do exercises with them while you walk (whether on the treadmill or not). You can easily injure yourself, since it makes it so easy to ruin your form for walking AND your form for lifting. Be careful!
You are doing great! I am so happy for you, and glad to hear your sweetie is giving you all that support and attention, too! Go for it!
Lisrey :lift:
fleureange 01-26-03, 02:59 PM :balloons: Yeah Baby!!!! Way to go on tossing the brownies.
You sure are keeping my butt in gear. Got to keep up with ya if I'm to win this challenge eh? LOL ;)
I'm just so damn proud of you. You go girl!
Darlene :hippy:
mcmarto 01-26-03, 07:06 PM Well...its been a good day!
So far!
I have been kind of spending too much time on the computer...but its what I like!
My calories for the day...1550...f & v's-perfect...calcium is good...fiber low...and fat was ok...28%!
I have done 30 mins on the treadmill...still have to do my 2 mile tape...I just had dinner so I want to wait an hour or so!
*************************************************
Lisrey...Thanks for the info on the weights...my weights are light...2 pounds...and when I use them I am walking only at a 2.0 pace...I also make sure to really concentrate on the moves...I just don't throw my arms out any old way...so I am trying to be careful...it just makes the time go by faster!
Fleur......Who is gonna win?...Did you say I was going to win?...hahahahahahaha!
Hope everyone has had a good day!
mcmarto
fleureange 01-26-03, 08:38 PM Yes, I did say "I was going to win" hehehehe;)
Darlene :hippy:

mcmarto 01-28-03, 12:10 AM Well...today I was 10 mins late for work...due to having to stop at the store in the a.m. to pick up a treat for my kids!
After work I had to go do laundry (ick...ick...and ick)...I got home and I was beat...I had to walk the pugs.......then off to make dinner...I made some saucy chicken (with stewed tomatoes...green peppers...onions...garlic)...and rice...it was good!
My calories for the day...1540...fat was low...only about 23%...f & v's was great...calcium low...fiber low!
No exercise today...it was my off day...
Chato just left about 30 mins ago...I will miss him cause he is so cute...but...he did pee on my floor 4 times...and...pooped on my carpet and on my bed (again)...so...he won't be missed!
It is so cold here...cold...cold...cold...I am glad I don't have to wake up extra early to walk him either!

That goes for all who read this, we will all lose this year. Our time has come and we will succeed.
Keep it up girl!!!!
Darlene :hippy:
chumlette 01-28-03, 10:06 AM I can't believe you keep letting that Chato into your apartment. Wow. You are the most patient little thing aren't you!
Mcmarto, you are my Wonder Woman. Big Time. Congrats on your month anniversary! Wahoo!!!!
mickeyvoll 01-28-03, 11:09 AM Hi Mc
I know it's a little late in the day, but well done for losing those 7lb! You really do sound on top of things - even when the evil snack monster is lurking, your determination and drive are really really strong now!
Could you take Olive over the Chato's place and have her poop and pee all over their house? Think Olive would cooperate with that plan?
She's probably much too civilized.
One month down! I'm looking forward to the news on this weigh-in. But heck, it's just a scale. You feel great, you sound great, you have tons of energy, and that's what matters.
Dinner sounds delicious.
mcmarto 01-28-03, 09:55 PM While at school I came across some mini - twix bars that I had for the kids........I wanted one...no really two...but...I placed them in a bag and walked them over to the otherside of my classroom...after a few minutes I forgot about them!
Wait......it gets better!
I am leaving school at 3 and it has begun to snow...we are expecting 3-5 inches...well...right away I start thinking...maybe I should just go home...blah...blah...blah...but as I warm up the car I tell myself NO!...You must stay on your schedule!...As I get closer to Curves their is more and more snow...traffic slows!...It took me 90 minutes to get there (normally 35)...Now its snowing rather heavily and I can't find a parking spot...so I drive for a few mins......find one and I am there!...Yahoo!...
I was so proud of myself!...I got home...made a nice dinner and in about 30 minutes I am getting ready to walk on the treadmill!
My calories for the day...1720...fat is high...at 30%...f & v's great...fiber and calcium to low!...So far 5 glasses of water...I need 3 more but I will get them...cannot go to sleep without them!

Have a great night
By the way, Great job with the chocolate and going to curves.
I'm so proud of you.
Darlene :hippy:
Sounds like you had a fabulous day! I'm not sure I would have braved all that snow like you did... we are getting it here tonight & when I drove home from work at 9 pm it was pretty slick. You are going strong! *
I wanted to ask you: do you feel sore the next day after working out at Curves? I went for my 2nd workout last night & I felt like I worked pretty hard at those machines. When I drove home I could feel it, particularly in my chest & shoulders. Then today, nothing! I wonder if I am not doing something right?
Lisrey :)
mcmarto 01-29-03, 07:30 PM Hey all!
Another great day...passing me by!
I did walk on the treadmill last night...and let me tell you...I wanted to jump off after just 20 mins...but I said to myself..."NO!...you must not let Fleureange win!"...hahahahaha!
Ok...get this one...my treadmill said that I had walked 1.14 miles in 30 mins and that I had burned up 150 calories...my pedometer said that I had walked 1.44 miles in 30 minutes and that I had burned up 243 calories ... so what I am wondering is...Did I put in the wrong stride length into my pedometer?...If so...is it too long of a stride or too short?...I know these things are not suppose to be that accurate...but I just want another persons opinion...or opinions!
I am off tonight for girls night...my friend who never gives me calorie info is cooking...I already pre-warned her 3 times that she better have the info for me...or that she needs to tell me exactly how she cooks the food!
.........................
Here is the word of the day...
chaffer (CHAF-uhr) verb tr., intr.
1. To haggle; to bargain.
2. To bandy words; to chatter.
noun
Bargaining or haggling.
[Imagine harried passengers on the cobblestoned streets of 13th century
London, haggling with the coach drivers (cheap fare!) while horses neigh in
the background and it's easy to see the derivation of this term. It came to
us from Middle English chaffare, eventually from Old English ceap (trade,
purchase), precursor of English cheap + faru (journey). Extension of the
term to gossip or chatter was the logical evolution. Today, when we scour
Web sites looking for cheap airline tickets, our quest for cheap fares
continues.]
................................
Nothing else exciting today...hmmmmm...let me think...nope!
...............................
Kilogo...thanks for all your support!...Happy 1 month anniversary!
Fleur...thanks for the chat...did I fail to mention today that I am going to win?...hahahahahahaha!
Lisrey...I braved the snow and I am proud!...In regards to Curves...if you read their pamphlet it says...With hydraulic resistance you push forward, then pull back....By not performing eccentric contractions (lowering weights) you can eliminate 85% of the injuries and most soreness!!!...........I sometimes feel a little sore...but its actually not a soreness...now that I think about it...its more like my muscles are tired...like I will scale a bunch of stairs and my thighs feel weak!
..............................
OK...I am off...post my calories later!

fleureange 01-29-03, 09:18 PM Every time I read your journal, my family looks at me strange. I sit in front of this box and laugh out loud. Guess they think I've lost it.
But that's all I'm going to lose. I will win the challenge. hehehehehe.
Hope you had fun tonight. Hope you ate healthy. Hope you do 32 minutes on your treadmill LOL
bye

Nanny......Oh...wait a minute...are you challenging Fleureange and I?...heeheehee!
Minnie...Thanks for the info...my pedometer did not come with a measuring tape...I was supposed to find one myself and measure my distance...I must have done it wrong!...Thanks for stopping by and for all of your support!

Here is the word of the day...
dehisce (di-HIS) verb intr.
1. To burst open, as the pod of a plant.
2. To gape.
[When a peapod is ripe after a long wait and bursts open, it's yawning,
etymologically speaking. The term dehisce comes from Latin dehiscere
(to split open), from hiscere (to gape, yawn), from Latin hiare (to yawn).
Another term that derives from the same root is hiatus.]

Ok...I am off to get ready for school...its a 1/2 day today (for the kids)...I have a meeting at 11 for a new student!...Supposedly we are going to be visited by some woman from downtown who comes in to observe all of the classrooms...she is called the AIO...but I have no idea what it stands for!...The last time she was going to visit...last fall...I spent a total of 12 hours (3 or 4 hours a day after school) making sure my room was neat and organized (and it usually is)...well...then...when she showed up I was on a field trip so she didn't even go into my room!
So...now I want her to come in...cause I know that I am doing it right...and I know that my room is ... hmmm for lack of a better word..."EXCEPTIONAL"...don't think I am bragging or anything...but I was just told this about 3 times this school year by 3 different people!
heeheehee!
I am off...have a nice day!

mickeyvoll 01-30-03, 09:06 AM Hi Mc
Congratulations on being on plan for a month! That is a great achievement, and you still sound so motivated.
Your 8lb loss is bang on too! That means you are losing approximately 2lb per week, which is a very sensible loss and means that you are more likely to stick to your plan. You must be so proud of yourself! I am proud of you too!
