Hi Ladies......next week i am having a hysterectomy.......not sure if the ovaries are going yet......wont know till after......however my g/f said she gained 30lbs in a short period of time after hers. I am strugging with my weight now.....i dont need it too get any worse. Does having this surgery automatically mean some extra pounds. Heck i was thinking a uterus has got to weigh something......it must help with some weight loss!.....(just kidding........:D )......well let me know ok..........please.....

I had a hysterectomy 9 years ago, and did not gain any weight after that was not explainable by donut boxes and burger wrappers. :o

If you keep to the plan you are on now, and excersise once the doc says its ok, then you should not have a problem.

I think the biggest cause of gain with women after the hysterectomy comes from depression related to the reason for the surgery. If you can handle the emotions afterwards you will be fine.

Hi Carisma!
As far as I know the weight gain isn't a general report after a hysterectomy. Most people, in fact, lose weight. The change in hormones may cause different reactions for different people.
Good Luck on your Surgery!

I agree with everyone here, Carisma. I had a hysterectomy a few years back and there is no reason that you should gain weight. I had everything taken out and when I have had a weight gain, it's been because of something I've overeaten on and not the lack of my female stuff. lol When I'm eating healthy and taking care of myself, I am able to lose weight with no problem. That should be the case with you as well.

Good luck with your surgery and let us know how you're doing when you are able. Take care!!

I had the surgery ten years ago, and it made no difference in my weight struggle 9which was tough anyway, but didn't get worse).
Good luck, I was so glad I had it done! I was suffering from extremely heavy periods and it gave me back almost two weeks out of every month.

Thank you for your support and encouragement. I see my surgery as a fresh start to good health and hopefully alot of new found energy. Then maybe i can get back on track and get my butt in gear. MIght take a bit . NOt only am i having the hysterectomy but having a bladder suspension at the same time. I do plan on starting real slow on the treadmill walking........soon. And i know right off i need to watch my food intake. But i do think with all the problems i have had....this has got to help. Anyways.......Wednesday is the big day. Should be home in 5 to 10 days......hoping to make it more like 3. Thanks for all your well wishes. I will let you know how i am doing........

My mother in law had both surgeries that you are having at the same time too. Her recovery time was a bit slower due to having both done, but no weight gain. She felt better and started exercising more and lost about 40 lbs :)

Saying prayers for you :)

HI Everyone and thanks for the support. I got home yesterday and although am pretty sore and still have all my staples.....i am not doing too bad. And Joanne.....i came home with my little bag friend still attached.....lol......i dont see it leaving me anytime in the near future. Emilyrose.....i did alot of research in that area and in the US alone Doctors perform 600,000 of these surgeries every year. Kind of makes you wonder huh? I pretty much had no choice but I know some of the things i asked some of these male doctors i didn;t like the responses too which ran along the line of..."whats the difference......you dont need it anymore anyways". And if this any incentive......I did lose 7lbs in the last 5 days....(but there has got to be an easier way). Maybe when i lose all my staples on thursday and my bag friend in the hopefully very near future i will lose a bit more. However it does give me a good start to what i see as a new beginning for me. I did ask my doctor about using the treadmill.....he chuckled a bit and said........"extreemly slow" but not allowed to lift anymore than 5lbs for the next 6 weeks so weights are out for a bit. My husband drove me over to the mall today and we did the once around and back home. Bout all i can do right now but its a start too. Thanks again everyone and good luck Emily....keep us posted.

Hey carisma.. Great to see you back.....I'm glad you got to keep those ovaries.. They are very important..LOL.. As for the bag?? Normally 5-6 days tops is what I was told when I got mine. .Yep on the 5th it was off...If you are worried about when they take it out?? you won't feel a thing..Just a tube inserted and that's it..I had to make sure and drink lots though.. Maybe have some light cranberry juice. This will help keep your bladder going PLUS it acts like an antibiotic at the same time...

Thanks Joanne.......well this is day 8 with my little baggy friend and it looks like it is not going anywhere for at least another 7 as thats when i go back to the doctors again. I have had a real problem with drinking and eating since the surgery. This past 8 days i have lost 14lbs. The doctor wasnt too concerned. Guess he figures i got some to spare. Wish i always had to force myself to eat and drink though. Anyways.....each day is a bit better albeit boring and at times discouraging. You ladies have been great with the support......thanks...
