View Full Version : This is the beginning..
wishinthin 01-28-03, 03:33 PM Hi there,
I'm new here, and someone on another board suggested I start a journal here....
I'm 21 years old, 5'5" and 155 lbs, the highest I have ever been. I think this is partly due to my dad's death in June. He died suddenly of a heart attack at age 57. I quickly gained about 25 pounds in the following months. So basically I feel like I'm in a stranger's body. None of my clothes fit, I've been wearing the same 3 pairs of jeans for 6 months... my goal is to lose 30 pounds by June 1.
I am a student at University of Guelph here in Canada. I go to the YMCA here. Since the beginning of this year I've been doing cardio 5-6 times per week and weight training 3-4 times per week. I've also been controlling my portions. I just weighed myself yesterday, so I don't know how much I've lost since the begining.
I'm excited to reach my goal. I know it will take quite a bit of hard work, but I am looking forward to giving and receiving support here!!
Thanks,
Becky

hi becky
welcome aboard this diet roller coaster. But for you it will be a one way trip all the way down. You sound ready to take it off. You have youth behind you and all the reasons in the world to get to goal.. It's so easy to gain under stress..Give it time it will come off. Don' t try and do this over night. That's not how it came on. So many younger girls want it off next morning. I've been there. Did take it off like 30 lbs in a month once. But not anymore the faster it comes off the faster it goes back on. so give it time.
see you lighter
Linda
Becky:
First off let me say how sorry I am to hear of your loss. I lost my father from a heart attack when he was 59 and my mom from cancer at the age of 57. It's hard when you lose someone so close to you.
Now let me welcome you to Diettalk. Your on the right track for exercis and portion control. I use a program called fitday to track my exercise and calorie consumption for the day. It's a free site and the addy is wwwfitday.com
If I can be of any help to you please feel free to PM me.

This doesn't really have to do with anything... but I live in a house with 3 of my girlfriends while I'm going to school. Last night 2 of them told the other 2 of us they are moving out. One of them said she needs her "space", and the other one has wanted to move out from day 1 - she is very much still a little girl and is homesick and everything. So basically me and the other girl Robyn are screwed over right now - we have to find 2 people to fill the rooms by May. That shouldn't be so hard, but we would really have liked someone we know, and all of our friends made their living arrangements for next year ON THE WEEKEND. So this is very frustrating.
Anyway I have to get to class.....

wishinthin 01-29-03, 07:59 PM I decided to order the Winsor Pilates system.... it looks like something I would be able to fit in my busy school schedule, and won't be very hard to follow.... I also went grocery shopping today and bought lots of fibre-rich foods like brown rice.... I feel like I am getting somewhere!!
hey Becky,
i have been mulling over whether to get the winsor pilates tapes too. Judy that is moderator of the goal board got them recently and said they are awesome.

wishinthin 01-30-03, 02:19 PM I think I am going to give myself a little short-term goal... my birthday is next week (turning 21), and my family is having a huge party for me... my goal will be to lose 3 pounds by then. I know it's not much but I think if I can do that I'll feel better about myself...
I was so good yesterday!! I did 30 mins of intense cardio and about an hour of strength training. I also didn't eat ANY junk food at all, drank all my water and 3 cups of green tea....!!
Kussanna 01-30-03, 02:29 PM Hi Becky,
Wow. You made a goal and you are sticking to it! You should be very proud of yourself. I will check in more often to see how you are doing.
