View Full Version : It's the Little Things that Matter for Seniors
JoThrive 04-29-03, 09:50 PM In my opinion it is the little things that matter for Seniors.
Is everyone remembering to stay active. I don't necessarily mean slaving away at the gym for hours and hours.
But are we remembering to park at the end of the parking lot and walk to the store instead of finding the closest parking spot?
Are we remembering to take the stairs instead of the elevator whenever we can?
Are we remembering to stretch those muscles to help keep them limber?
We can't avoid growing older, but I figure we can do all we can to keep ourselves healthy.
And let's all keep smiling - :D
betty40 04-30-03, 11:16 AM You are an amazing person. I too have type 2 diabete and you so make me feel like exercising more or moving around more.
I just turn 63. and seem to gain rather than lose my weight.
But I will keep trying.
JoThrive 04-30-03, 12:17 PM Hi, Betty. Nice to have you with us.
Every morning gives us a new opportunity to restart ourselves. I find that as I grow older I tend to revert to those old sayings. They seem to have more meaning for me.
Type 2 diabetes is nothing to fool around with. For me, dealing with it takes a lot of planning. I try to keep doing my exercising, but sometimes that is difficult.
But life is good, let's keep smiling -
monicapink 04-30-03, 06:09 PM Hi Betty,
I just saw Jo's message, your response and her reply .... I hope you will take an active part in this Forum
I just turned 60 ... you know one thing I have learned these past 3 years 2 months ... WE CAN ALL LEARN TO MAKE BETTER HEALTH CHOICES.... Age doesn't have to be a factor. The important thing in our journey to success IS FOCUS AND COMMITMENT.
Like you and Jo I too am a diabetic .... but I am working to control my blood sugars and LOSE WEIGHT.
Don't give up on yourself .... YOU DIDN'T GAIN THE WEIGHT IN A DAY, WEEK, MONTH OR YEAR ...... SO BE PATIENT AND GOOD TO YOURSELF AND KNOW THAT YOU WILL SUCCEED.
I try to post articles to help us have a better understanding of our needs (I am the Moderator of the Diabetic Forum too) ....
We learn from one another. Any time I can be of any help, please let me know. Always, Monica
betty40 05-01-03, 09:33 AM Well Thank you Jo and Monica. I am honor and feel encourage today.
As I reply in Jo foodmover chitchat, I am beginning the foodmover again this morning.
I will look into your diabete forum Monica.
I am trying to not get into too many thread. I learn the last time that too many of them can get confusing so I am going to limit my fav thread to about 2 or 3. There are so many to choose from and all are so temping to join. Love Betty
sandielynne 05-07-03, 08:01 PM Hello Betty,
Glad to have you with us. I'm 61, not a diabetic, and I'm hoping to avoid becoming one. I am here occasionally, because it is difficult to keep up with too many threads, and that is part of my problem. I am more active in the Journal Forum than anywhere else, but I do poke my head in here now and then.
Hello Monica and Jo, glad you two are still holding down the fort here in the Senior Forum....LOL.
Sandie
JoThrive 05-07-03, 09:55 PM Hi, Sandi, Betty, Monica, anyone else -
We just keep plugging along, don't we? And staying positive I hope.
I for one am glad that warmer weather is here, since it makes it possible for me to get out and walk in the neighborhood. Mighty pleasant it is. The flowers are so pretty. :) :)
betty40 05-08-03, 08:40 AM Well here I am. I have not lost yet. I keep binging at night on just about everything. I was in Richard Simmons live chat last night and he does motivate you. I would honestly say he is a professional motivator. His subject was motivation.
So here I am ready to go again. I decided to concentrate this week on only one thing. Don't eat after 6 pm. Drink water everytime I want to binge out. I am going to keep concentrating on this till my subconscious or mind part that control my eating have reset itself like a computer. So that my goal for awhile. Who know how long it take your mind and body take to adjust.
Everyone has different bodies.
I can do this. Everytime I falter I will tell myself that. I am going to write it down and paste it on my frig. "I can do this."
Again thank you Monica, Jo, and Sandy for your encouragement.
Rainy here in PA lately and cool.
sandielynne 05-14-03, 08:14 PM Hello Jo, Monica, Betty,
Well, last week I managed to shock myself by losing 2 lbs. But this week I neither gained nor lost. I guess that is much better than gaining, so I will be happy with that. But I do hope that in future I will lose some more, and then this coming Xmas season, NOT gain it back again like I did last year.
Betty, I live in Pa. too, so I know what you mean about all the rain. It really is holding back our usual lovely spring weather. Goodness, my daffodils are still blooming. But my Bleeding Hearts are looking very lovely right now as well. I have been to areas where the lilacs are blooming really well, but mine have yet to open. Their flowers are still growing, but none are open. I am looking forward to that. They smell so lovely, I can never breathe in enough of them.
Well, I hope everyone is having a great week. Take care. Will check back in next week.
Hugz,
Sandie
JoThrive 05-21-03, 10:07 PM Hi, everyone. I'm still plugging along here in Wyoming. We are not having very nice spring weather here. At night it gets down to freezing or very close, but it does warm up nicely during the day. I have my tomato plants sitting in my kitchen window, but so far I am not trusting the weather enough to plant them in the garden.
My exercise has been going pretty good. About 12 years ago I was violently ill for a long time,. Prior to that illness I was able to walk brisky every day for about 3 miles. I am happy to say that both yesterday and today I did those same three miles. My doctor advised me to "just keep pushing it", and he was right.
I'm not losing any weight, but I am eating healthy foods, drinking lots of water, and exercising regularly. And of course I feel it is very important to keep smiling. Life is good. Enjoy - :D
