Well... here I am back in Toronto. It is hot and smoggy and I am completely wiped out.

I felt really sad saying goodbye to my new friends in Italy... I was also sad to say goodbye to my daily AM cappuccino (whole milk) and my PM gelato. I am also sad that I did not get a chance to visit Renee in Sicily, Mickey in England or George in Laglio. I didn't even get a glimpse of George (Clooney) on the Lake. I must say that I am still excited that I was in such close proximity. I will visit again, if not for George then for the wonderful spaghetti at the Hotel Corona in Menaggio.

I left Italy in tears to arrive in rainy, cold and dirty London. I had a ton of luggage and had to get to the nanny agency. They let me store my bags as I ran a few errands around the city. Then it was off to the Underground and a Brit Rail train to stay with my cousin. It was a hideous experience as the bags were so big and heavy. As I wheeled that case on the giant escalator it was too wide for the step... I almost fell, can you imagine??? I would have taken a bunch of commuters with me (I would have been OK with that as the bastards wouldn't help me). When I reached my cousin's house by Rail, I had to carry the bags up a huge set of stairs and then across a platform and back down another set of stairs. I finished to a round of applause from a couple of wankers sitting on a bench. I had an interview on Thursday (postponed from Wednesday) then it was lunch with a friend. She lives in a great part of London... Primrose Hill. It has a wonderful High Street that attracts many local celebs.... (Oasis, Jude Law, Chris Martin....etc.) I made it to Harvie Nichols and there was also the airport shopping... not bad, unless you are broke.

So hear I am, back in the land of computer and TV. I watched the Buffy episodes this morning and cried my heart out. I have mixed feelings about being back. The reality of being jobless is uglier here. The one major positive is that I get to re-connect with all of you guys. Yippee for DSL!!!!!!

Hooray! You made it back and got to a computer!

I've missed you, Nanny. Been a bit worried about you. I figured you could take care of yourself and you'd be ok. But still, I worried bit.

What an experience. wow.

Congrats on Vancouver getting the olympics in 2010, btw. Good job, Canada!

You'll no doubt figure this out as you catch up here, but everyone is doing the south beach diet. Almost everyone! It's good thing.

Nanny

Please fill me in on the South Beach Diet!!!!! I need help fast.

I am so excited about Vancouver 2010. On the flight over to Toronto I saw the full news coverage....

I will be back again tonight to check in...

South Beach Diet.

There's even a forum for it here at DT now.

Start here - www.prevention.com . Click on the link for South Beach Diet.

I found the book at the library and read it. Good, good book. I really recommend getting it.

Any interviews on your horizon yet? Where are you living these days? With friends or in an apt by yourself or what? Just curious.

Nanny

I bought the book today and I am feeling motivated. I have a slight problem as I don't really like eggs (but can handle them for phase 1). I don't eat fish or cottage cheese and that could also pose a slight problem....

I am living with my old employer, she has hired me back for a few weeks then I am off to PEI to spend some time with my family.

Thanks for the link!!!

I saw the Italian Job tonight.... I was intrigued by the title.

Hi Nanny

I'm so pleased you are back here and able to communicate with the world again! I have missed you.

I'm sorry you had such a bad time in nasty cold London. How typical of the English to just sit and laugh at you whilst you were carrying heavy bags. Sometimes I wonder what kind of mentality we breed over here!

So, you are going to try the SBD? It seems to be a diet that a lot of people are turning too. I hope that if you do it, you have the same success that all the other people on it seem to be having!

Welcome back, my dear friend.

Horrible London story, I must say. What WANKERS (god I've missed you) !!!!

So, did you get the pricklies being so close to Clooney? Mmm.

I'm glad you are back.

I'm glad you are doing the SBD. It's not hard, really. You can do it and hate eggs and cottage cheese and fish. I've only eaten CC once and eggs once and fish, not at all. You can do it. It's the lack of candy that is the hard part. At least for me.

No more gelato for awhile for Nanners.

Stop that sobbing, Nann. You can still have green beans!

Ack.

Nanny
07-08-03, 06:24 PM
Yum!!!!! I feel so much better now, I forgot about green beans....pfft!

Nanny
07-08-03, 06:27 PM
As far as Clooney is concerned, well, I did get the pricklies. Now that I am back in Canada and online I researched his Villa and I know exactly where it is.... until next time George!!! (Do I sound like a scary stalker?)

Anastasia
07-08-03, 06:40 PM
Uh-huh, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

Besides you'd be much nicer company than his potbellied pig.

Meeting you - his stalker - could be the best thing to happen to him since he got cast as Dr. Ross...

chumlette
07-09-03, 10:21 AM
Well, for one, we all KNOW you are a scary stalker. Two, maybe he got the pricklies just knowing YOU were nearby. Three, I heard that Clooney's favorite food is green beans and he is really turned on by women eating them instead of gelato.

Kiss. Kiss.

How are you doing today? Still a nasty ho? A mean and cranky freakazoid? haha This too shall pass, my friend.

I, for one, luv you to pieces.

lutha2018
07-09-03, 11:32 AM
I'm glad to see you made it back safely! You've been having adventures...nasty uncomfortable things...make you late for dinner (okay enough Hobbit quotes).

I hope the SBD works for you. I'm one who is not doing it. I feel a little left out, but not enough to persuade me. I'll just cheer you on.

Nanny
07-09-03, 07:09 PM
Hi Folks.....

Slightly less cranky today but bored with meat. I can see why people lose weight on the high protein diets.... they just get uninspired and quit eating.

I do sound miserable..... I just can't wait for phase two. I know it will be slightly easier for me. I miss my cereal breakfast!!!

Just imagine how hot I will look in Como when I visit my friend next year. I will time it with Clooney's stay. I will rent a motorboat and loiter on the Lake near his Villa........ I could run out of fuel.... Come on you guys, help me cook up a plan!!!!!!

Lutha, you shouldn't feel left out, you should feel lucky!!

Cheers my friends. Thanks for visiting this cranky homicidal carb deprived biatch.

Hi
Glad you made it back to the land of tv. I'm home on leave and hate the thought of going back to Italy. I've had so much fun being here in Atlanta. Good luck with getting a job and with the SBD. I'm not trying it. Its not for me. Have a good evening.

I giggle when I think of people who would miss their AM cereal. I so do NOT miss cereal...I miss my frosting and candy, sure, but cereal? zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Good luck today sweetie!

Nanny
07-11-03, 10:39 PM
Chum... I also miss candy. I miss all carbs. I think it will take another week for me to adjust. I am feeling slightly low energy today.

Renee... I am glad you are able to make it home for a holiday. I was sorry that I didn't make it to Sicily. It would have been fun to visit.

Lutha- Great to see you. Sorry about the Ducks. Old news, I know. New Jersey is not my favorite team.

Anastasia- You are right. Meeting me could be the best thing that ever happened to Good Ole George.

Have a great weekend folks!!!!

Hi Nann.

Do you still smell like cheese?

Nanny
07-13-03, 12:11 AM
I am at my Aunt and Uncle's for the weekend. They made me a lovely supper, I declined the potato but I had to have dessert. It was made for me. It was a very low sugar dessert, rhubarb and blueberry crisp. Unfortunately there were non phase 1 foods consumed.... Does that mean that I have to start over?

HELP!!!!!

Hi!

I'm not on the SBD, but I would say to just relax and carry on. I knew tons of folks who did Atkins and even with a slip up now and again, it still worked like a charm.

I am curious though - without eggs, fish and cottage cheese, what is your diet like?

I'm also curious how you spent all of that glorious time 'off' in Italy. And do tell about the new Italian friends...

mickeyvoll
07-15-03, 02:57 PM
Hi Nanny.

Hope you're not too bloaty after the carb dessert! I'm sure you'll be absolutely fine, obviously sometimes things like this can't be helped - what would be worse, making your Aunt and Uncle feel like you didn't appreciate their cooking and hospitality, or having a few carbs that you're not supposed to eat?

Nanny
07-16-03, 08:52 AM
I am doing OK with this SBD. My cravings aren't so bad. I am scared to move on to Phase 2....

I have been extremely busy this week, hopefully things will calm down today. Then I will be able to visit some journals.....

chumlette
07-17-03, 01:38 AM
I was just wondering something...

If you smell like cheese, do lots of mice follow you everywhere?

You will do fine on Phase 2, my friend. I have faith in you. Has it already been two weeks? Gee, time flies when you're having fun.

Even when you're not.

lutha2018
07-17-03, 04:57 PM
Why are you afraid of Phase 2? Do you suspect that letting some carbs back in will spark cravings?

Thanks for visiting my journal! I don't deserve it when I am so irregular about posting.

I think everyone fears Phase II. The fun thing is you can always go back into Phase I if you feel the need.

07-18-03, 02:30 AM
Hey girl...

Here you are!...

I think I posted on your old journal...like a big dope...

Ok...so I did miss you...and I was worried about you...glad to know we can hear from you more often!...

I did get to watch the first and second episodes of Cupid...too funny of a show...I am in love with "Dominic"...and to think he was walking the streets of Chicago!...pfft...too bad he is too young...hahaha...OH...and I am married!

I also watched Queer Eye for the Straight Guy...it was funny...I love makeover shows!

AND as usual I am watching Big Brother...the cast is not that great and pretty unattractive...I still miss the days when Hardy was on...gee...like 2 casts ago?...Oh well!

Will you be in Chicago anytime soon?...I remember you mentioned a possible christening?...OR did it already pass!

Ok...well I tried e-mailing you but I must have had an old address...

Have a great weekend!

Oh...I am also on the SBD diet...I just finished up day 4...you are so right about not finding too many things to eat...therefore we eat barely anything...I am craving sweets...but its improving!

Talk later!

I saw a cartoon once where linburger cheese had a VISIBLE odor (kind of like Pepe Le Pew).

Fun fact for you.

Where are you?

My mother has been doing SBD for 3 weeks now. She just checked her blood pressure today. It's 107 over 68. That's down from 150 over 110, which is as low as it would go with medication.

She gets to go off BP medication for the first time in 10 years.

SBD works for your health, and weight loss is just a lovely side benefit. One does wonder why people scoff at it as just another diet or an Atkins knock-off. Probably because of the foofy name.

You're doing great, sticking with it. Good For You!

Nanny
07-19-03, 04:14 PM
Thanks friends..... Since I ate some carbs last weekend at my Aunt and Uncle's then I will stick with Phase one until next weekend. I think that is the best thing. I feel pretty good. I haven't weighed myself but it is clear to me that some pounds have come off.

I no longer smell like cheese as I gave it up for breakfast. Breakfast has been tricky for me so now I have coffee and 1 TBSP of PB. Not a very big breakfast but soon I will have oatmeal as well. I think I will stick with the PB so I combine a protein with my carb. A few shaved and roasted almonds for the oatmeal and I will have a spring in my step. Lunch can be tricky for me but I seem to be coping.

Thanks for all your support guys.....

Andrea

PS I am in Toronto still. I leave for PEI in 2 weeks.

I am still here. Just working my ***** off here in Toronto. I am still on Phase one as I had to restart. I think I have dropped quite a few pounds. I feel great anyway and I think that is the main thing.

Nothing else to report. I go to PEI next Wednesday. Very exciting!!!!!!!!!!! I have a job interview this Sunday. I have to fly to Hartford. The job is in Norwalk for a month and then Geneva. I think they travel back to the USA quite a bit so I would still get to visit Chum!!!!!!!! I also checked and they have a DSL connection in Switzerland. That should make me less of a ghost around here... I hope it works out as it seems to be my only opportunity at the moment.

Good luck with the interview tomorrow, Nanners. I hope you will end up somewhere close by.

Switzerland is so clean. But neutrality is not all it's cracked up to be.

NYC is not neutral on anything. Come here. We have nanny protection laws. (Assuming you aren't an immigrant. Pffft.)

How did you end up in the country this weekend?

I will still watch West Wing, yes. It is the only hopeful politicking I see these days. It's going into syndication on Bravo soon.

I miss you terribly. I've started twisting my hair like yours now. I feel so chic.
