SENIORS ..... AND TRANS-FATS
Trans fatty acids (OTHERWISE KNOWN AS "TRANS-FAT") are found in vegetable shortening, SOME margarines, crackers, candies, baked goods, cookies, snack foods, fried foods, salad dressings and MANY PROCESSED FOODS.

It is imperative that we know about trans fat because it has been proven in the relationship between diets high in trans-fat content and LDL ("bad") cholesterol levels and an INCREASED RISK OF CORONARY HEART DISEASE.

There are "good" fats and "bad fats". SATURATED FATS AND TRANS FAT have bad effects on cholesterol levels. POLYUNSATURATED FATS AND MONOUNSATURATED FATS (like olive oil, canola oil, soybean oil and corn oil) HAVE GOOD EFFECTS.

The LESS SATURATED FAT, TRANS FAT and CHOLESTEROL consumed the BETTER.

TRANS FAT while in many of the foods we eat IS NOT NECESSARY TO ANY HEALTHY WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM.

By checking the Nutritional Label of the foods purchased: IF THE INGREDIENT LIST INCLUDES THE WORDS "SHORTENING", "PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED VEGETABLE OIL" OR "HYDROGENATED VEGETABLE OIL", the food contains trans-fat.

WHEN INGREDIENTS ARE LISTED IN DESCENDING ORDER OF PREDOMINANCE -- SMALLER AMOUNTS ARE PRESENT WHEN THE INGREDIENT IS CLOSE TO THE END OF THE LIST.

It is essential we READ NUTRITIONAL LABELS. Labels provide valuable information .... and enables us to make wiser and healthier choices.

Irregardless of what weight loss program we are using THERE ARE ALWAYS NUTRITIONAL FACTORS WE MUST BE AWARE OF IN ORDER TO ESTABLISH HEALTHIER HEALTH PATTERNS.
