View Full Version : SENIOR SMARTS: Ten Ways To Get The Right Carbohydrates
monicapink 09-06-03, 05:01 PM TEN WAYS TO GET THE RIGHT CARBOHYDRATES [list=1]
CHOOSE WHOLE-GRAIN FOODS OVER HIGHLY PROCESSED ONES.
EAT MORE LEGUMES (DRIED BEANS, LENTILS AND PEANUTS).
RESTRICT "WHITE" FOODS, SUCH AS SUGAR, WHITE BREAD AND WHITE POTATOES.
EAT MORE HIGH-FIBER FRUITS AND VEGETABLES.
CHOOSE FRUIT JUICES OVER SUGARY SOFT DRINKS.
EAT SPAGHETTI UNDERCOOKED -- (AL DENTE); AVOID CANNED SPAGHETTI.
ADD VINEGAR OR LEMON JUICE TO CARS; THE ACID LOWERS THE GLYCEMIC INDEX AS MUCH AS 30%. TO COUNTERACT A MEAL'S HIGH GLYCEMIC INDEX, EAT A GREEN SALAD WITH ACIDIC DRESSING.
EAT SOURDOUGH BREAD AND "GRAINY" BREAD; RESTRICT HIGH GLYCEMIC INDEX BAGELS.
CHOOSE OLD-FASHIONED OATMEAL AND ALL-BRAN OVER HIGHLY PROCESSED CEREALS, SUCH AS CORN FLAKES.
CHOOSE UNCLE BEN'S CONVERTED WHITE RICE; TESTS SHOW IT HAS HALF TO ONE-THIRD THE GLYCEMIC INDEX OF OTHER WHITE RICE. ALSO GOOD: BROWN AND BASMATI RICE. INSTANT RICE IS HIGH GL.

great tips monica!! do i put the lemon juice or vinegar in the gas tank of my car or what?? ..i bet that would make me exercise more too cuz i prob would have to walk lol :D ...just kidding ..these were great ideas..i didnt know that acid would lower the glycemic index like that...and way tricky of you to make carbs cars to see who actually reads your posts !! you are the BEST!!!! :x
Ha Ha sooz I just read about the car...boy I usually love Monica's advise but this one..:-/ 8-| . You try it first sooz and let me know how it works... LOL
Louise
sneaky lady isnt she louise???
 hi monica!! just kidding!!!
I think she is just trying to help us get our exercise...
Louise
maybe she meant if you clean your car windows w vinegar and water you can see out better...and a little lemon juice on a cotton ball in the ash tray will freshen the air..so then, you will drive more and walk less?? lets see..that wouldnt be good..no...i bet you are right!!!!!!!!! walk MORE!!!!! much better...:mus: B-) :lift:
Ok Monica: On a more serious note...would taking apple cider vinegar caps or the liquid really be beneficial as many people seem to think and I wonder if it would have the same effect as item 7 of your list (of course it is carbs and not gas)? Just curious that is all
and thanks so much for posting this list...
You do so much for all of us :ghug:

JoThrive 09-06-03, 06:10 PM Poor Monica. The proof readers are out in force today. I must be very careful when posting.
Actually I agree that those are very good points you made regarding getting the right carbs. I have recently been incorporating better choices in my WOE with some good success. Carbs are, or can be, such trigger foods, but when I stay in control and stress the veggies and whole grains, I do much better.
Regarding the apple cider question, I incorporated the apple cider vinegar (with the mother) in my way of eating a couple of years ago. I really thought it helped a bit, but it may have been just the idea of trying something like that. That stuff that sits between our ears has such an influence on eating properly.
At any rate, I appreciate your informational postings, and I also enjoyed the proof readers comments. Let's keep enjoying life.
And keep smiling -
:D
bird songs 09-06-03, 06:19 PM VROOOOMMMM I gotta get in on this one lol
So, is that why that vinegar diet came about I wonder?
I have apple cider vinegar, does that count? I will make a dressing with it if it does.
You all are so silly.. I kept saying to myself, what the heck is Sooz talking about ... Then I saw it in Monicas post.
JoThrive 09-06-03, 06:37 PM That apple cider vinegar thingy has been around for years and years. And I never knew the why of it, other than the tart taste might depress the appetite. But the apple cider vinegar caps wouldn't at all.
Hey, maybe it is just an "old wives' tale", but then aren't we "old wives" posting on this thread. Tee hee. :D I know I am.
