View Full Version : More of me than I want to see
MelsaEstel 03-08-04, 09:42 PM Hi all! I have only been visiting the site here for about a week. I have recently decided to start the South Beach Diet. I would like to lose some of this extra weight for summer, and keep it off for college graduation in December and the upcoming job interviews I will be having.
I never really had a problem with my weight in high school. I knew I was bigger, but not that much. Over 4 years of college, the weight has continually piled on. I would like to lose the weight so that I feel better about myself, and live a healthier lifestyle.
I am going to be staying with my parents this summer, and my dad is an avid scuba diver. He has been asking me to take lessons (I would love to!), but I wouldn't even think about getting into a bathing suit or a wet suit looking like this.
I have tried too many times to diet without support, and I know there is tons of it here on this site! It's been such an encouragement in the short time I have been visiting. I am couting on you to help, and hopefully I can be there for you too! Thanks!
:ghug:
JoThrive 03-08-04, 09:53 PM Hello, Melissa, welcome to Diettalk. Yes, there's lots of support here, lots of great advice, lots of encouragement, etc.
So make yourself at home and enjoy your the South Beach Diet. In fact, SBD has quite an active forum here at Diettalk.
Good luck to you on your weight-loss journey. Keep plugging along with the wet suit/swim suit in mind, and you will reach your goal. It can be done, and you are worth all the effort it will take.
MelsaEstel 03-08-04, 09:57 PM Thanks JoJo!
I do keep thinking about that bathing suit/wetsuit. I also have the cutest pair of pants that I am so excited about wearing! This time, I am serious, no messing around:)
I noticed your stats, sounds like we are aiming for the same weights! How long have you been working on your diet?
MelsaEstel 03-10-04, 12:42 AM Hello all!
Today has been a great day!
I wasn't planning on starting SBD today, so I had pasta at lunch and cherry coke. I felt really bad when my parents made dinner that fit phase one. I was the one who really wanted to do this, and I wasn't starting! So, I made a good dinner, within the rules. It was really good! I don't think it will be a big problem for me to stay on plan, just the thoughtless grabbing of some "bad" snack is going to be my downfall. I plan on going back to my apartment on Saturday and getting rid of a bunch of bad stuff. My roommate and I have the "Uh Oh" cupboard. That will be cleaned out soon!
I am excited about what tomorrow will bring! I am going to put out more job applications, so I will be running around town. THat will keep my mind off food. As long as I keep busy, I will be fine:) I am gonna work out too! It's been too long! So, tomorrow will be waking up, walking/jogging on treadmill for at least 30 minutes, shower, breakfast, get a job  Phew! Busy morning!
Hey Melissa,
sounds like you have a busy day planned, hope you get everything accomplished!
Cleaning out the less than good stuff from the cupboards is definately a good starting point.
Good luck with your journey ahead, look forward to seeing you around Diettalk.
hugs bell :)
MelsaEstel 03-11-04, 01:02 AM Thanks Bell!
I am sick of applications! I turned in 8 of them today, including 3 extremely long apps online! I am so tired now! I hope all that filling out paper work was worth it!
Dietwise, I did really well until my dad got pizza. It was so tasty. I couldn't resist. I did work out this morning while watching tv, and ate sensibly the rest of the day. I even got sugar free flavoring in my coffee:)
So here's to tomorrow, when I am not worrying about jobs. It's time to clean the house, and get rid of a bunch of junk in my room, make space for me to move my apartment into my little room here at the parent's house:) THat will be interesting!
Anyone on South Beach diet have good phase one recipes for something chocolaty? The ones in the book don't sound all that appetizing. Ricotta and cocoa? :-& I don't know about that one...
MelsaEstel 03-11-04, 01:06 AM A little bit of X-( and a little bit of :jn
Interesting start to the day! Forgot to mention this in the last post:)
I woke up this morning to my boss calling. The store I work (ed) in was going to close cometime within the next month. I had my hours all set for this coming week, and was looking forward to at least one 50 hour paycheck. That's a big deal when I am used to 20 hours! But, no. The store closed early. I have no job, so once I get back to the apartment, I have to rely on my parents to help me with bills and food and stuff. I don't want to have to do that again. But noone will hire me for 2 months work. I am glad to be done, that way I have every weekend open to come home for interviews or can stay at school and work on the loads of projects due in a matter of weeks that I don't even have topics for yet! Many emotions floating around on this one:) It will all work out for the best.
JoThrive 03-11-04, 09:25 AM Hi, Melissa, I was wondering how things are going with you and the SBD. So I thought I would drop in for a visit.
Well, speaking as a parent, losing a job and needing some help from parents, this is the sort of thing that can easily happen to kids when they are leaving/trying to leave the home nest. Things just don't work out exactly like we would like to have them work out, and restarting your life takes time. But as you say it will all work out for the best. That is such a great attitude.
Good luck to you regarding jobs and job applications and all that good stuff. And please keep us posted.
MelsaEstel 03-11-04, 01:17 PM Thanks for checking in, JoJo! It means a lot that someone is thinking about me:)
I have pretty much been out of the house for 4 years now. The university I attend is 2 hours from home, and I never wanted to leave to come home on weekends. My parents and I never really saw eye to eye on many things. So I thought I was just saving us all some energy by avoiding arguments.
This past summer, I stayed at school and worked 2 jobs, but still had a lot of financial problems. I was living alone in the apartment, but was getting another apartment's electric bill. Instead of paying for just my bill, I was paying for four girls who always had people over, constantly had all the lights on, and who knows what else. I didn't know this, but had so many panic attacks when I got $115 bills(between my 2 jobs, I was only getting 20-30 hours a week!), on top of all the other things I had to pay. I really learned to respect my parents, and saw how much they have always done for me. My brother started college in June, so they were paying for his school and rent, but they still found ways to help me out financially. I thought I was living on my own for the summer to learn independance and more self reliance, but I really learned the value of my family. So, I have a good outlook on things like that ever since:) It's amazing how 4 years ago I thought I knew everything I needed to know about taking care of myself, but just in the 4 months over summer, I learned more than I bargained for.
MelsaEstel 03-11-04, 09:45 PM Another day gone by:)
I treated myself to a late morning, then got up, ate a good breakfast (2 eggs and coffee), then got to work. I took everything out of my closet and dresser, sorted every box, drawer, shelp, nook and cranny. Nothing in my room went untouched. My room lost at least 50 pounds of trash in a few hours, as well as a bunch of stuff for a garage sale this summer. If only it were that easy for us to do! So that kept me busy and not thinking about food for almost 5 hours.
My dad made tacos for dinner. How I love them! I really want to lose the weight with SBC, so I had a taco salad instead. Oh so yummy without the tortillas or taco shells. Before dinner, I had a hard boiled egg for a snack, and a little after dinner, treated myself to a sugar-free fudgesicle. I have been drinking lots of water too.
I am determined to lose this weight, with my parents support or not. That is why I have all of you here at DT! It's gonna happen. I am excited to get through this weekend successfully, and get to my apartment to where we have a scale. I don't know if I am making any progress as of now. Hopefully!
MelsaEstel 03-13-04, 09:42 PM Time to check in again.
All those applications are starting to pay off. I got a call for an interview yesterday. It's not a well paying job, but I am gonna see what they have to offer, and hopefully they won't want an offer right then. I am hoping to get a job at Home Depot, they start around 9-10 an hour. That would be wonderful compared to the 5.50 I have been making!
Yesterday was really good. I ate well, didn't "exercise", but didn't just sit around all day. I got to see my best friend, whom I see about 4 times a year.
Today was another story. Went out for breakfast, gave in and had biscuits and honey. I missed those! Then for dinner, I was really bad! I had half a reuben sandwich, and my dad and I split chilli fries. Well, dad ate them, I picked at a couple. They were not even worth blowing the meal. That's pretty cool that I was disappointed with them. Means I don't really need them. I gave in and had 2 glasses of Cherry Coke. That was wonderful. So, tomorrow is my last day at home for a while. Back to the apartment. But...I get to clean all the bad stuff out of the cupboards. In the meantime, I have like 30 bucks to last me until my final paycheck, since I am unemployed. Anyone looking to invest in a worthy cause, I am starting the "Feed a Poor, Unemployed College Student" Fund. Send cash to me:)
MelsaEstel 03-14-04, 04:48 PM Back to the grind for me. I am heading back to my apartment this evening. It should be a lot better this time around than before break. I had classes all day, then would go to work, so I wasn't eating dinner until about 10 most nights, and just eating whatever I could find in the quick breaks I had at home. Goals for this week:
1. Clean out junk in kitchen and the "pantry" in my closet
2. Buy SBD friendly foods and snacks
3. Workout at least 30 minutes a day, but do more intensive stuff at the gym 4 of the days.
4. Get caught up or even ahead in 503 and 508.
5. Plan a fun birthday bash (mine's on the 25th)
6. Check up on my applications
I only have two hours of class each day this week! Two of my profs are going to be in Philly all week, so I get a semi-break! Way to follow up spring break! Don't have to dive all the way back in:) That leaves lots of time to fulfill all my goals with time to spare!
millie47 03-14-04, 07:28 PM Hi Melissa,
Just thought I would stop by and Welcome you to diettalk! i have enjoyed reading your journal. Sounds like you are doing good. Keep up the good work.I wish you all the best on your weight lose journey! Just know that you can do this!
..........................Millie
MelsaEstel 03-15-04, 12:42 AM Thanks Millie, for the support!
Well...I started cleaning out the junk in the kitchen cupboards. Not an easy task. I ate canteloupe, drank Vernors, and as I was tossing a full can of frosting, some of it found it's way into my mouth. So, I ruined it for today. Back to square one! I am going grocery shopping tomorrow, time to stock up on the good stuff!
I have found that lately, I am comparing myself to other people and old pictures of myself. I was looking at a bunch of pictures with a friend the other day. I don't know how many times I said "Look how skinny I was then". I don't want to compare myself like that. I know that I have gained quite a bit in the last few years, but I want to think about how I am now, and where I want to be. Small goals towards the big one. As you say, Millie, One day at a time!
MelsaEstel 03-15-04, 07:05 PM My first day back to classes turned into an extension of spring break! Both my classes were cancelled, so I was able to get my shopping done, and do a lot more relaxing. It's been nice. I managed to leave the grocery store with ony "legal" food. Wasn't really tempted to grab the carb/sugar junk.
I have done well with food. I had sugar-free jello before class, made a great salad from the SBD book, and some sausage and a little peanut butter. I did have a cherry coke, I need to ween myself off it. It's really hard to just quit when it's here, and I can' throw it away. So, I will allow myself one can a day until I run out. After that, it won't be an issue. I should go find out whether my 8 am class is meeting this week. I don't think it is. Hopefully not:)
Until later:)
precious 03-15-04, 08:02 PM :welcome: To diet talk these people on here are pretty awesome. I love the support here and you can pick up some tips from some pretty wonderful people. You have such a good attitude keep it up and you will do it. Determination. Good Luck on the Job Search too. It can be hard. Take Care Veda:D
MelsaEstel 03-15-04, 09:24 PM I just got back from the gym. I was talking to some ladies in chat and somehow just got really motivated to get off my butt and do something. I feel so great when I get back. Everytime I get back I wonder why I forget this feeling of accomplishment. I rode the bike for 35 minutes at a pretty fast pace. I am used to the little calorie counter thing reading 40 cal when I finish, but tonight I burned 210! I was excited! I was also proud that I went during the busiest time of the day and wasn't intimidated by the girls with already perfect bodies.
As I was changing into my workout clothes, I noticed that my stomach is starting to go away. I haven't lost any weight, but I think I am losing the inches. I need a tape measure to check that out! But that is totally exciting. I was telling the gals in chat that I am one of the many who want results now, and get discouraged if I don't see them. I always think of progress as pounds, but inches will do! There are many many beautiful women who are fit and in great shape, but still rack in bigger numbers on the scale. It's amazing how just the putting on of a sports bra can change your outlook. I am so excited!
MelsaEstel 03-16-04, 12:55 AM One small victory
Some of my friends are on a bowling league. I went to see them, and someone brought Thin Mints. Perhaps my favorite girl scout cookie of them all. They also had big things of popcorn and of course green beer. Man, it took so much, but I didn't touch any of it! I was even rationalizing eating a cookie. "I went to the gym tonight, I deserve it!" But I held out. Thinking about that shrinking stomach!
way to go Mel, good for you. Keep those thoughts and control a comin'!!!!!
Nice work on the exercise too.:lift:
I was just passing through and I saw your post from last night. Way to go on saying no to the cookies and popcorn. Too funny though that my temptation last night was also Girl Scout cookies (samosas) and popcorn! Great minds think alike!
Keep up the great work!
MelsaEstel 03-18-04, 03:02 AM Happy St. Patricks Day!
Another wonderful day of classes for me:) Once again, my forensic anthropology class was cancelled, so I had a free day! I was able to visit a friend, a much overdue visit! Other than that, I took care of some stuff around campus, and worked on homework. I am taking a CAD class, so homework is just like playing around:) It's great to make pictures on the computer! I only have one class on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so that means that all week, I will only have attended two classes. It's been such a good week!
I haven't been back to the gym. The only time I can tomorrow is in the morning, but I have a ton of stuff to do around the apartment. I will be gone from about 1:45 til at least 11, and the gym closes at 11 during the week. So, Friday I am going to the gym, and I am going to find people to go disc golfing. As soon as we hit the 40 degree mark, I will be out there!
I drank the last of my coke today, so that temptation is gone. That will be nice. There's 42 grams of sugar in a single can of that stuff. Tastes so good! I can't find diet cherry coke anywhere!
Food today was alright. I had some of my veggie salad from the SBD book, and a couple hot dogs without the buns. I gave in and had a pita tonight, there was no getting around it. But, I figured it was better than the beer!
Of course St. Patty's is a huge drinking holiday, especially in a college town. It is also a friend's birthday, so we went out. I don't want to drink beer because of SBD, and haven't really been in the mood to drink at all this semester. So, I played DD. I don't mind it at all. I only spent 5 bucks all night for getting into the comedy club, going to the bar, and getting food after. Can't complain about that!
Tomorrow: Wake up have breakfast, do laundry, go to gym, shower, go to class, make dinner with friends, then to His House, and home to bed. Sounds like a good day! Hopefully I can get up and get going. It's already late, and I didn't get much sleep last night. I might just sleep in, get rested up. I need it!
PS> Had another encounter with huge baskets of popcorn. Didn't touch it, not even to participate in the game of "throw the popcorn in someone else's beer". Proud of that, disappointed that I had the pita. And it was so late! I have been trying to stop my eating past 8pm. Blew that tonight. There's always tomorrow. Start off fresh:)
Mmmcookies 03-18-04, 07:39 AM Hi there Melissa,
You're doing so well, good on you! I've gained a lot of weight in my 4 years at College too; looks like we have similar goals (and vices- I love coke!).
Keep up the good work, and feel free to PM me if you'd like a buddy to check in on you every day (I could do with some supervision!!)
- Anna
MelsaEstel 03-18-04, 01:48 PM :dc :jn :dc
I got on the scale this morning, and I am down! It said I am down 5, but last tiem I weighed in, I was wearing jeans, so I am counting 3 pounds. Still good! Even with all the bad food choices I have been making lately! So, that was a fun way to start the day!
Hey Anna!:wn Thanks for the encouragement! I am always looking for someone to keep me on my toes! Hope to see you around here. Do you have a journal also? I would love to read some of it and be able to check in on you too!
MelsaEstel 03-20-04, 07:07 PM Update time:)
Thursday, I made dinner with some friends, We had both pasta and fruit juice. It was pretty good. We made dessert, but I went to the gym instead:) I rode the bike for 30 minutes, then did 15 minutes on the stepper. I had never used one, had a blast with how it changed levels. Will definitly be doing that again!
Friday, I didn't do much at all. Finally got on the disc golf course. I was true to my word when I said as soon as it was 40 degrees, I would be out there. It hit 43 degrees in the afternoon. My roommate and I treated ourselves to DQ. It was so good! It's cool that with all this off diet food, I am not gaining anything. But...instead of eating that junk, I could be losing. So, gotta keep thinking about that. The rest of the day, I sat around, working on some homework, watched a movie.
Today, I got some errands done, balanced the checkbook, more work, library stuff done, and that's about all. Busted out the Teva's today. The highest I saw the temp was 55. Heat wave! It's supposed to get cold again this week. Hopefully it will be warm on Thursday for my birthday!
My parents are going to come into town on Friday to take me out to dinner, so that will be fun. I think they have seen my apartment 2 times in the year I have been here.
Tomorrow is gonna include more working out. I need to get going more frequently. Lately it has been maybe 2 times a week, just randomly. It's gotta change. I need someone to kick me and get me going!
MelsaEstel 03-21-04, 08:46 PM Happy Spring!
Today was kinda a bummer, weatherwise. Yesterday was a beautiful 55 degrees, and super sunny. Today was sunny, but we peaked at 31 degrees. Gotta love Michigan! I am sick of it!
Went to the gym today. 30 minutes on the bike, and about 10 on the stepper. My roommate and I then played pool for about an hour.
At the moment. I am trying to read an incredibly boring article, then write a summary of it. I find this completely worthless. Most of the terminology in the articles is too advanced for me. Aside from losing interest after reading the paragraph long title, the text is just a bunch of meaningless mumbo-jumbo. Yet, it's part of my grade, and I want to do well. THat means spending a couple hours trying to make sense of the article which I will forget 2 minutes after completion. At that point, I read it over again and pick out parts to quote or statements that might be important. It's terrible that I have one semester left, and I HATE my major! I am only finishing it because I want to graduate and not go farther into debt. Oh well. 23 weeks of class, and I am DONE!
Food: I have been decent lately. Yesterday, the roomie and I hit up Subway. Cheap, fast, tasty. I finished it this afternoon for lunch. For dinner, I had romaine with green peppers, cucumbers, tomato, and feta with a little ranch dressing. I also had chicken breast with a little seasoning on it. Very good, especially the salad! I need to stock up on my salad fixins.
Back to that paper...
MelsaEstel 03-23-04, 07:15 PM That's right, fellow DTers, it does exist! I have been searching for weeks for diet cherry coke. I found one 2-liter of it today. ONE in the entire store! So, I have enjoyed that this afternoon. I don't remember if that's alright for SB, my mom has the book downstate and I haven't called her to ask. But, I haven't been doing SB super strict, so I figure it's a heck of a lot better than the real stuff!
I have been doing really well with carb and sugar cravings, except for the pop. I figure with the diet pop, I will get the sweet without the sugar. I have really gotten into salads. Romaine hearts with chopped up green pepper, cucumber, tomoto and a little ranch dressing. Sometimes a little feta cheese. Oh so good! If I feel the need to snack, I go for a slice of cheese or peanuts. I have also been reintroduced to celery and peanut butter, ants on a log without the rasins. I don't really miss the carbs too often. My roommate is doing Adkins, so she doesn't do the pasta or bread often, so that has been helping a lot. We have also been cooking at the same time, so it's more fun.
My birthday is in 2 days. I will be 22, the first of many meaningless birthdays. The next one that warrants any celebration is 30, but that's still 8 years away. I don't know what we are going to do. I don't want to plan something, I don't think you should on your birthday. I only had 2 people last year that made any sort of effort for my birthday. Kinda sad, considering what we did for some other birthdays. But, oh well.
Kinda in a blah mood. Ready for another break from school and classes and roommates.
In the meantime, I am ready for this nice spring weather that is supposed to be on it's way!
Corinna 03-23-04, 11:34 PM Ok, Diet Cherry Coke exists in the US! Not up here! It's SO not fair. I had some when I went to Atlanta last year.
I'm on day 5 with no sugar. Longest I have gone in years, I think. Sad, eh? Keep up the great work!
Corinna
MelsaEstel 03-24-04, 07:02 PM Filing taxes. I can't believe I have put it off this long! I sent my federal stuff in about a month ago, but my state is still sitting here on my desk. Today is the day.
It's been a good day. I need to eat more, but I haven't been hungry. I had a salad after classes this afternoon, it was once again wonderful. I haven't stepped on the scale in a few days, so I don't know if I am losing anymore. Hopefully!
Way to go, Corrina! It's tough to cut out the sugar. Keep it up!
I am gonna enjoy the last few hours of my being 21 tonight. Any ideas?
Happy early Birthday, Melissa! You are doing a great job and congratulations on the weight loss! Your description of your salad made me hungry! lol Have you ever tried sunflower seeds on your salad? I love them on there..... get the roasted ones, they are less oily and have less fat grams. 2 tablespoons is a serving size.
Take care and do something really nice for yourself on your birthday! Everyone deserves to have at least one day a year they can treat themselves!!
JoThrive 03-24-04, 07:37 PM Birthdays are wonderful milestones. Enjoy yours!!!
MelsaEstel 03-24-04, 09:46 PM I just talked to the parents. They are coming to visit me, and are taking me to the casino. I can gamble away some of their money. Wait...if I were to go now, it would be their money anyway since I don't have a job anymore! But, that will be fun. Afterwards, we are going to go to the buffet there. I have heard that it is wonderful. Everyone who wins big goes there to have a celebration feast. Hopefully I will treat myself, but not gorge!
Thanks DJ and JoJo!
lol Mel,
Now if you gamble with their money, are the winnings their money too? Hmmmm...... LOL
Hope you have fun.
Corinna 03-24-04, 10:52 PM Play a quarter for me! :)
Have fun.
Corinna
MelsaEstel 03-25-04, 12:17 AM Thanks for the quick chat earlier Crazy, Sandie, and Corrina! I hope to get to know you all :)
I had a great workout tonight. I started with 25 minutes on the bike, 20 minutes walking on a treadmill, then did a mile on the track. I walked about half, but that's pretty good for me who hasn't really run in 7 years! I am working on it! I want to be able to run a mile straight through sometime this summer. I feel great, a little bit of a headache, but that may be from smelling myself! But it's the smell of success. So sweet (almost:))
Thanks for all the encouragement. I get so excited to do things when people are helping me along!
Corrina-I love the first quote in your signature. So true, but I often forget!
MelsaEstel 03-25-04, 01:24 AM It's going to be a great day! I am so excited. It's 12:30 am, and still 50 degrees. It's supposed to be around 65 by this afternoon. I am planning on hitting up the disc golf course! YAY FOR SPRING!
MelsaEstel 03-25-04, 10:35 PM Well...it's been a good day, but not diet wise! That means I have to be good tomorrow! Kinda dissapointed that noone except my roomie put any effort into today. We do stuff for everyone else. Oh well. Sounds petty and childish, but it's cool when people at least make somewhat of an effort. I did have lots of messages waiting for me on AIM this morning. That was exciting!
Well, I am gonna go get some people to hang out tonight. Gotta take things into my own hands:) Have a great night!
JoThrive 03-25-04, 10:55 PM Melissa, I hope you did have a nice birthday observance today. Any birthday is a cause for celebration. We can look back on our past achievements and forward to what we hope to accomplish in the future.
Birthdays are special occasions, each one unique, each one very special. :bd
May you have many, many more.
MelsaEstel 03-26-04, 08:59 PM WHat a birthday! It ended up being pretty great! I got to hang out with some friends I haven't seen in a long time last night, and I spent a long time this afternoon with my parents. I left the casino with 22 bucks. Mom and dad lost everything. But hey, a total of 21 dollars combines going in there and 4 hours of fun, it's definitly worth it!
Tonight, I am going bowling. I love to bowl. I am not very good at all, but I usually break 100, so I am not terrible:)
Tomorrow, I want to get people to play disc golf, since it's gonna be warm still!
Sunday is study day, find phone numbers so I can check up on my applications, although I don't really know what to say when I do call. Any suggestions?
Have a wonderful evening, everyone!
MelsaEstel 03-28-04, 01:06 PM I love those days where you have absolutely nothing to do! Yesterday, I slept in way too late, then sat in front of the tv either watching a show, movie, looking for area cell phone stores, or something else. I felt bad about not working out, but sometimes you have to take advantage of it! All 3 of my roommates were gone, so it was actually quiet! A couple of friends I haven't seen in a long time stopped by, so that was very nice to catch up with them.
Diet-wise: I think that I am going to try eating normal for a little while. Like I did before SB, but not as bad. If I am careful about what I eat and how much I eat, I think I will be more sucessful. If it doesn't work out, I can always go back to SBD.
Make a great day!
MelsaEstel 03-29-04, 02:51 AM Seeing how my schedule has changed drastically, giving me tons of extra time, it's a great time to start doing something!
Everyday: Watch foods. Limit carbs, sugars and bad fats. Limit colas, stick with diet or crystal light. Only watch 2 tv shows. No more sleeping in until 12! Try to get to sleep earlier, get into the summer sleep schedule early!
Monday: Walk on campus as much as I can. Take the long way around and enjoy the spring weather! At home, do ab exercises.
Tuesday: Wake up at a decent time and get to the gym! 30 minutes on the bike, 20 minutes on stairs, at least 1 mile on the track running as much as I can. Use free weights.
Wednesday: Same as Monday
Thursday: Same as Tuesday
Friday, Saturday, Sunday: Wake up at decent hour, do at least one physical activity each day (disc golf, walk around a park, go to the gym).
I think that is completely do-able. I am excited to start it tomorrow!
I have attached a picture of my brother and I at his high school graduation (June 2003)
MelsaEstel 03-29-04, 06:45 PM So far, not too bad. Walking on campus is great. It's a nice campus! After that, I went into old downtown to a scrapbook store, so I can get started on a scrapbook for my roommate who is graduating in May. Went to the bank, found out that I have more money than I thought, and finally got food. That was the downside. I was going to get up and get things done this morning, but I didn't get out of bed til almost 11:30. So, 5 pm and I was eating for the first time all day. That needs to change.
Tonight I am bowling in a league, a friend can't make it, so I am filling in. Hope I don't bring his average down!
MelsaEstel 03-30-04, 06:20 PM Bowling last night was a lot of fun. I did fairly well. Strong finishes each time. I had a 119, 108, and 110. The last game, the team we were bowling with were drunk, so it took them a long time to realize that it was their turn to bowl. So, the last 10 frames took almost an hour and a half. It was still fun:)
Day two. I haven't gone to work out yet, but I will later:) I spent the day running around town getting things done. It was really nice to be able to just get things done in my own time.
I haven't been too hungry lately. If I am not hungry, I don't eat most of the time. So, Yesterday, I didn't eat until 5, today I didn't have anything until 3.
Off to get some more stuff done:) Have a great night!
Corinna 03-30-04, 11:14 PM Beautiful picture! Remember to eat breakfast, missy! Hehehehe.. I'm glad you enjoyed your bday and bowling. I think we'd be an even match if we ever went together.. Hehehe
Corinna
MelsaEstel 03-31-04, 01:34 AM Thanks Corrina:) I am always up for some bowling!
Note to self: GET OFF YOUR BUTT AND GET TO THE GYM!
MelsaEstel 04-01-04, 02:04 AM I am in a rut. Already! For the last week, I haven't been paying attention to anything that I eat. If I feel like eating, I do. I don't want to get back to that. I went upstairs a little while ago, and brought back a box of girlscout cookies. Luckily, I didn't get into them, I just threw them all away. It's really hard!
Once again, no gym today. I HAVE to go tomorrow! :coach: Kick me if I don't go! Please!
Well, I am off to sleep, hopefully I will sleep well tonight. I haven't been getting rested up, go to bed and 10 hours later am still exhausted! Not good! G'night ladiesI-)
MelsaEstel 04-01-04, 02:47 PM So, I have realized that since I decided to eat carbs, but in moderation, it hasn't happened. Once I eat one thing, I feel it's okay to eat another, and before I know it, I am in carb overload. I need to be strict, otherwise I won't do anything. I tried on my super cute motivation pants, hoping for at least a little change. Nothing. TO make it worse, I really noticed how much my stomach bulges out over the top. So, back to South Beach Diet I go!
Another goal: I WILL be wearing those pants comfortably by summer. That gives me about 5 weeks to lose about 10 pounds. I have to be hard core now.
This morning, I went to the gym. I did 35 minutes on the bike, about 8.5 miles. Hoping to get outside and maybe walk around. It's beautiful, although it's a little chilly. Haven't eaten yet, but another one of those salads is calling to me! (I also found more diet cherry coke! I Love Meijer!)
The time is now. I WILL wear those pants! [-X :whip:
I need your help though!
MelsaEstel 04-01-04, 09:27 PM I love when the weather turns from nasty winter to beautiful spring, but this going back and forth is messing with me! I tend to get a little depressed at the beginning of spring. It's kicking in again. I find that I don't really want to get out and do things, so I stay in and feel sorry about myself. I hate when it happens. No matter how hard I try to keep busy and focused on other things, it hits.
Food so far today:
lunch: romaine with cuc, green pepper, tomato, and a little ranch
dinner: venison steak and some soup (it had potatoes in it, not so good for SB)
snack: Cheerios (it has strawberries and bananas in it! I had to have some, get that craving out of my system!)
I need to drink more water, don't think I have had much except after my workout this afternoon.
It's supposed to be a beautiful day tomorrow. I have lots of errands to run, and am supposed to hit the disc golf course with the guys in the evening. First, I must have fun tonight (I am making myself go have a good time!) then get a good night's sleep!
MelsaEstel 04-01-04, 10:53 PM Quick question...
What do the stars and title under my name mean? When do they change?
Corinna 04-01-04, 11:42 PM I think there's an FAQ for the stars somewhere.. It has to do with how many posts you have posted. It will likely go up at 75 or 100 stars.. There are those here who know where the FAQ is for the stars.. But alas, I do not.
Get back on track! Good job on going to the gym! Go tomorrow! Hehehehe..
I get into carb ruts, too.. It's insane!
Corinna
MelsaEstel 04-02-04, 04:36 PM Gym day can be fun! Today wasn't one of those days. I do feel better for going, but it's a lot more fun to go with someone else. They push me along. I get too bored doing things on my own. Suppose I should get over that, since I will be working out alone all summer. But, I did about 15 minutes on the stepper and walked a bit. Didn't do the full mile, got bored, wanted to get out of there. I am going to play disc golf in about an hour, so there's more walking around. It's beautiful here! Supposed to get cold this weekend. But, for now, I am getting out and enjoying the sun!
MelsaEstel 04-04-04, 12:40 PM What a day! Yesterday afternoon was beautiful! My roommate and I went to a park, and walked the trails that take you through 4 different parks. We ended up walking for almost an hour. It was really good!
After that, we decided to call people and have a party, since we haven't done that since september or october. So we made jello shots and cleaned the place up. It was a blast! A lot of people I haven't seen in a long time came over, so it was fun to just sit around and talk with them. The only bad thing, it was a completely anti-diet night. According to SB, I should not have had anything that I did last night. So, it was fun, but just sets me back that much more with weightloss. I am gonna say goodbye to beer and alcohol, although I really don't drink much, just last night. There are other things I should be doing with my time and money right now.
Off to the library to get material for a paper due tomorrow, some for one due Tuesday, and I need to get information online for a project due in a month which I still have no topic for! Busy day!
Corinna 04-04-04, 07:01 PM I'm happy you had a nice party. I think I will plan a BBQ for when the weather gets nice.. Yeah, that's the ticket! :)
It's ok to let loose every once in a while. I did when I went to Jamaica.. I have only had 3 (three) Coronas since.. Not too shabby. :)
When do you finish school?
Corinna <--- not a complete teetotaler.
jennylea 04-04-04, 07:51 PM Melissa! You found lady smurf! Did you like the website? If you haven't already, look at the pictures of people, they are hilarious and I swear they were taken from me.
Glad you had a good time last night, I do that sometimes too. Have a good time, that is!
I gotta get off of here now, not having a good time with the wee one right now. Have a good evening!
MelsaEstel 04-04-04, 09:28 PM Jenny- the website is great! I wish there was more about different shows like the Gummi Bears. Quality:) Last night was a blast. It was great to see some of the people again.
Hope everything is okay with the boys! Thanks for stopping by!
Corrina- I love bbq's! If only we had a grill up here! I get spoiled by my parents when I go home, they cook steaks on the grill every time I go home. How wonderful. My mouth is watering just thinking about them!
I am supposed to graduate in December, if all goes well. I am ready to get done, but not sure if I want to face "the real world". Not sure if it's ready for me either!
MelsaEstel 04-04-04, 11:05 PM I am working on a small, simple paper, but have been looking for any interruption to get me away from it! I decided that the best thing to do was to go to Dairy Queen for a cheesequake blizzard. I have been craving one for a while now. So I drove there, saw that the line was almost out the door, and since it is freezing out, I was just gonna sit in the car and wait for the line to die down. I waited a couple minutes, and decided to get groceries instead. I am about out of good food, so the carbs are about all that was left. I got there, and my craving for DQ died! Instead, I got salad stuff, steaks, sugar free/fat free pudding mix, sugar free fruitsicles, and veggies. Much better than a blizzard! So, that made me feel good, even though it wasn't cheesecake! I need the small victories, they add up quickly!
MelsaEstel 04-05-04, 04:21 PM Last night was my first night of good sleep in well over a week. I finished my paper, crawled into bed around 12:30 ish and woke up at 10:45. So nice! I am hoping to keep that up!
SO far today, I had a bowl of cereal (it's whole grain wheat, which isn't as bad as the rest of the junk). I have to eat something to eat before class, otherwise I don't eat anything til 5 and end up binging on anything I can find. I figure a bowl of cereal to get me going is better than not:)
I am off to make a salad. I have been without lettuce, green pepper and cucumbers, so it's time for yum again! I also have a beautiful steak for dinner:) Can't wait!
debvil5 04-05-04, 06:58 PM Hi :wave:Melissa
I just read your post on a different thread. I also want to be able to wear a swimsuit and feel comfortable this summer. I am not on any real diet plan like the SBD. I have been watching how many calories I am eating and trying to get in 10,000 steps a day. It is a start. I haven't been to the gym in awhile, though. :o
So far in the past couple weeks, since I set up my challenge I have lost 3lbs. That at least makes me feel like continuing this. I have my good days and bad days. It is hard sometimes with school and running around and work. But I am determined to lose this weight. :whip:
Gotta run
Debra
MelsaEstel 04-06-04, 03:21 AM Hay Debra! Thanks for stopping by! I am thinking about counting my calories for a couple days. I am curious as to how much I eat in a day. So, if it's not too much of a hastle, I might keep doing that as well. Eat right by SB and watch calories. It might be too much focus on food, however. We will see how it goes!
I thought I was doing good by making sugar free-fat free pudding. Well, not entirely. There's a little sugar in the packet, and of course in the milk. I ate the whole thing. I was really disappointed in myself as I put the bowl away. Maybe those packets will be tossed out, get rid of the temptation.
Tomorrow is back to the gym. I was going to go today, but for some reason didn't. I had gone Tues, Thurs, friday last week, as well as almost an hour walking on Saturday. 4 out of 5 days turned into 4 out of 7. Still not too bad. I am going tomorrow!
In the meantime, I am going to sleep like I set out to do 2.5 hours ago. Hasn't happened yet. Not this again! It felt so good to actually sleep last night. Here goes nothing...
debvil5 04-07-04, 12:33 AM
Have you ever thought about getting the individual fat free / sugar free pudding packs? That might help with your temptation to eat the whole bowl of pudding. :o
Good job at getting to gym :ex:
I really need to go to the gym. I have avoided that place for about 2 weeks now. :o I have been going on walks outside. A little more adventure with that than the boring treadmill.
Hope you get that sleep.
Debra
MelsaEstel 04-07-04, 12:35 AM Day 1 of counting calories...
l: salad 15
cucumber 5
green pepper 8
2 hard boiled eggs 150
ranch dressing 140
diet cherry coke 0
s: no sugar added popsicle 25
d: sirloin steak on broiler 150
green beans ?
cottage cheese 80
s: hot dogs (2) 400
chili sauce 150
skim milk 160
Total: 1283 calories + a few from gr. beans
Doesn't seem too bad, considering many people do 1000 for their diets. I might do this again tomorrow, probably not. I am heading home until Monday morning, spend time with the family for Easter. I have a job interview Thursday, and am going to check up on my other applications. It should be a good time!
I didn't go to the gym again today. Grrr! I have been moving around all day, only watched an hour of tv, so that's good. It should be a more active weekend!
MelsaEstel 04-09-04, 12:55 AM Does anyone know much about the Jorge Cruise diet plan? I got really excited about some of the stuff the website said, and joined. I don't know why, there's 40 bucks down the drain if I don't stick to it. I saw that with 2 pounds a week, I can get down to 140 by October! That is so soon! I don't know of anyone who has even tried it. I saw in someone's journal that they were trying it, but that's it! Any help would be great. I paid, so I am going to try it out. I like that they don't limit the foods you can or cannot eat, and I know I can do 8 minutes of working out each day. That's nothing!
So, I have done 2 days of the workouts, but it doesn't seem like enough. I will do more in addition to what they say. Foodwise, I am just going to portion what I eat, make wise choices about what I eat, until I go grocery shopping and can buy some of the stuff for his menus. I am also supposed to weigh in Sunday, but we don't have a scale in the house. I have to wait til MOnday to see if it's done anything. Hopefully. I just want to find something that I can commit to. I want to lose this weight, for good!
I feel really good today. Even though Cruise allows carbs and fruit (unlike SB phase 1), I don't feel the need to eat much of them. My parents noticed that I haven't been eating many carbs lately, and have been cool with that. I had a couple small pieces of garlic toast last night, but no bread or pasta today. Oops. A litte in a cake my friends mom made. But, it's okay. I am really excited about staying away from a ton of sugar. That will be really good for me. It hasn't been hard at all, since I have found diet pop to not be as terrible as I always thought.
Well, I have my interview tomorrow. I also found out that a friend of mine that I have known since 5th grade is working at Home Depot, where I also applied. They are looking for people, and she and another guy are going to put in a good word for me. I guess they take recommendations from workers over just random applicants. So, I am going to go in tomorrow and talk to the big guy, and hopefully get that going. THat would be the ideal place to work this summer. We will see! Wish me luck!
Hey, I saw that 8 minutes in the morning thing too. I know someone here at DT is doing it so I checked out the book the last time I was at Borders. I do alot of those exercises already, although not consistently enough. I think it sounds like a good plan. But I am also thinking that 8 minutes might not be enough? Don't know. It seemed you don't do a lot of different exercises every day, but you do a lot of reps. I think anything that tones us up and helps us build some muscle has got to be a good thing. Muscles burn more calories than fat tissue afterall. :D
I count calories too. Even though I'm doing Medifast, I do eat one meal a day. So I log onto Fitday every day and put in my food and supplements (I've entered all the MF things as custom foods for me). That way I can really keep track of it all. It also helps you realize just how many calories are in all the foods we eat. Like I didn't know that a chicken breast, cooked without oil, and without the skin has 260 calories. Five ounces of grilled steak (a portion about the size of a deck of cards) has about the same. It's been an educational experience, let me tell ya. Fitday is a wonderful tool for us calorie-counters.
Good luck with the Home Depot interview! I think it would be fun to work there for the summer.
Hope you get this job - sounds like it would be great! :)
Sorry I do not know anything about that diet plan, so I can not be of any help .
Happy Blessed Easter ! Remember He Has Risen :flower:
Beth
MelsaEstel 04-12-04, 02:23 PM Thanks, Badger. I agree about the lack of exercises. It's not difficult to do the ones they suggest, it gets very boring. I don't like to do the same thing for a long time. At least when I go ride a bike at the gym I have a tv to watch. Keep my attention on other things. The food doesn't seem bad, I like the freedom to eat anything. I am going to eat carbs, just a small amount compared to what I used to injest. I haven't weighed in yet, was supposed to on Sunday. We don't have a scale at home, and I just got back to school this morning, only to go straight to class. All my stuff is still in my car. I was pretty bad this weekend. TOM hit, so I was craving chocolate. Also, with Easter, there are always lots of opportunities to eat. I was pretty good with dinner and meals, but did eat lots of M&Ms. I am gonna go grocery shopping this afternoon or tomorrow to get healthy foods. In the meantime, my lunch today was a small bag of combos and a coke. Hmmmm...coulda done better, but I had to grab something between classes. Not enough time to walk across campus to the car and drive home. I have to find something that I can take with me and keep in my backpack. I tend to eat (not just chew) gum. I will have it in my mouth, and when my stomach starts grumbling in the middle of an exam, I swallow the gum so something is in there for my stomach to work on. Not the best of situations, but it seems to help most times.
As soon as I get done with class this afternoon, I have to call Home Depot. I went in on Friday, and the guy I had to talk to wasn't in. I tried calling this morning, but he still wasn't there. He had better be there this time:) I am really looking forward to working there. It should be fun to get to know an old friend of mine, as well as some of the others. It will also be nice to have a paycheck again. So excited about that. I have another job if I don't get into the Depot. I had another interview on Friday, but they start $3 less than HD, and I would only get a max of 32 hours, depending on some other people. Here's hoping for HD! Go Orange:)
If you made it all the way through this message, CONGRATS! I would not have been able to read all that:)
Beth, He is risen indeed!
MelsaEstel 04-12-04, 08:04 PM Help! I am in another motivation rut. I don't want to work out, and am not really caring about what I am eating. I don't want to give up this easily or early.
MelsaEstel 04-12-04, 08:42 PM Man, I am not usually moody during TOM, but this is nuts! That last post was just a few minutes ago, how crazy! I have been reading other journals, and that has cheered me up. Everyone is doing so well, I want to as well! Don't want to let everyone down, myself included! So, a few goals for this week:
1. Don't feel sorry for myself.
I have done too much of that lately. It's my own fault, change it, not whine!
2. Exercise
I am trying out the 8 minutes, and I can definitly manage to wake up a few minutes early to get that done. It's not asking a whole lot!
3. Get outside
I come home from class, and sit inside most days. Time to get outside. Walk around town, the park, the apartment complex, anything outside!
4. Work on projects
5 days of classes left, then one day of exams, and I am done. That leaves 15 class free days to work. GET IT DONE! Ask for help, the longer you wait, the stupider it will feel! Suck it up and get help!
jennylea 04-13-04, 02:03 AM Your goals sound very realistic and I think they can be done. I'll post more tomorrow, I promise.......it's midnight here and I'm beat. I'll talk to you tomorrow!
Take care!
HI Melissa,
Was just reading about your jorge cruise plan. Is it just excercize....because my dieting skills are very limited at the moment....I could do with an excerisize pick up......
HOpe you get that job your after...sounds like fun....
Laoise
jennylea 04-13-04, 11:27 AM Okay, I've been up for a little while, maybe I'm thinking clearer!
Have you heard anything about your job yet? I agree, HD would be a good place to work.
I hope you are doing okay today. So, are you still doing sbd? Or are you doing Jorge? Well, you know what I mean ;)
I personally believe that exercise is KEY. Without it, you're not going to get far. Now, don't look at my stats! I need to listen to my own advice most of the time. I know that I really don't like to exercise. Alot of days, I could very easily say forget it. But, when I force myself to do it, I feel soooo much better. I think that's the way most people are. Don't do too much at once, early on, you could burn yourself out. Take baby steps. When I started on my treadmill, it was a feat just to do a mile, now, I'm already up to 2! Well, more than 2 if you go by the pedometer.......anyway.
I hope you have a good day! Email me if you want to talk. I'm usually on the computer more than I should be. I think you can do that from my profile. And, I also have msn and yahoo messenger. Let me know if you want to chat. I don't have the best advice but sometimes talking is all the support I need.
Talk to you later!
MelsaEstel 04-13-04, 01:17 PM Laoise- Thanks for visiting! Cruise has meal plans as well. It allows a certain amount of fat, carbs, protein each day, and pretty much all veggies are free. I don't follow the meals, but would probably do better if I did. The exercises are very basic and easy to do. You should check out the book at your library, see if it's something you could do. :)
Jenny-Thanks for dropping by, hope you slept well!
I am kinda doing a combo of SB and Jorge. Jorge allows a lot of freedom, which is good, but I need more restrictions, otherwise I go overboard with the "treats". So, I am doing Jorge's exercises to tone up, strengthen the muscles, and SB cutting out a lot of sugar and most bad carbs. We will see how it goes!
I totally know how you feel about the after exercise rush. I feel great when I get done. It's been hard lately, cause I don't have anyone to go with. I am hoping to find a place that woun't rip me off, and has personal trainers. I need someone to push me further than I would regularly go. I don't work myself hard enough. Until then, I just have to do what I can!
BTW, I called about 5 times yesterday to talk to the dude, but he was always busy, or out of the office when I called. Just tried calling again, and he doesn't answer his office phone or the store wide pages. Punk! I am going to keep trying, and hopefully he will return my phone call from yesterday when I left a message. Come on dude! Get on the ball:)
MelsaEstel 04-13-04, 07:55 PM Well, three more calls to HD (the best part is that the guys name is Will Smith:) I think "Gettin Jiggy wit it" everytime I ask for him on the phone:)) still no answer. This guy NEVER answers the phone or pages. two days straight! Geesh. So that's a lot discouraging if he won't return my call or pick up during the day. Oh well. I will keep pestering him.
I feel the need to log my foods. I get bored and go to the fridge. I know that if I write it down, I will see how much I really do eat, and will cut back. Here goes...
BF: Banana Nut granola bar
L: 2 tortillas with cheese, one of them also had a hot dog in it
D: Chicken breast with pasta and brocoli
So far a ton of carbs, but I have been reading a lot lately that you have to have a certain amount of carbs for your body to keep burning fat. I have heard that the carbs are the fastest burning thing you can eat. Who knows. I don't want to eat as much as I did today. Too many carbs turns bad for me. Leads to bad things like brownies and cake and frosting...I don't need any of that, no matter how much I want it!
I have to start drinking more water. Last night I drank almost 32 oz in about 3 minutes, didn't have to get up to pee at all. That may be a sign that I am not getting enough. So far, I have drank almost 34 oz of carbonated water. Yum.
My roomie and I are going to treat ourselves with a manicure, so I am outta here.
MelsaEstel 04-13-04, 10:49 PM Hopefully this is the last post in my own journal for today. This is already number 3.
I was bad tonight. Really bad. That manicure turned into an extra 30 minute wait, in which the roomie and I found ourselves at Big Boy's with me mowing down on a huge hot fudge brownie deal. So good, but man, my stomach did not appreciate it as much as my mouth did. Hopefully I will learn from that!
That's the only addition to my food for the day. I still need to drink more water. I had one glass at the restaurant. So, I am up to about 40-ish oz today. I need more.
Well...I am addicted to "Queer Eye For The Straight Guy, and it starts in about 5 minutes, so I am gonna check up on some people, then watch:) G'night all!
MelsaEstel 04-14-04, 12:15 PM Real quick post before I leave for class. I LOST A POUND! Even with that ice cream brownie bit! Yay!
jennylea 04-14-04, 12:27 PM Great! Congratulations! I know how one pound makes me feel, great. Keep it up!
Oh, btw, I'm totally addicted to Queer Eye too. Don't feel bad. Any reality tv for that matter. Have a great day!
MelsaEstel 04-14-04, 04:36 PM I am in deep! I found out today that I have to give my presentation on Monday. 5 days from now. That means 2 days left to use the lab and finish my entire project. Luckily I have another 2 weeks to finish the paper. Even so, that means little time to do other things for a few days. Ugh! It's totally my fault for being too proud to ask for help, and I tend to procrastinate. Here we go again!
MelsaEstel 04-14-04, 09:17 PM Time to log the food.
BF: Banana Nut granola bar
L: Leftover chicken/broccoli/pasta
D: Beef steak on the broiler, veggie mix, small salad with green peppers, one tortilla
Water for the day: about 40 oz. Need to get more!
Walked for an hour, about to do my 8mm for Cruise plan.
Feeling really good, despite the stress. It will be all gone come Monday!
MelsaEstel 04-15-04, 04:31 PM Time to log again.
BF: Banana Nut granola bar, 20 oz water
L: Jimmy John's sandwich (YUM!) 6 inch, turkey, tomato, lettuce, mayo, cheese on white bun. It's heavenly!
no idea about later, we will see.
I am about to head out to the trails, get some walking in. After 5 hours in the lab this morning/afternoon, I deserve it!
I love Queer Eye (DH despises it)! And I had forgotten about Jimmy Johns - I was somewhat addicted to the tuna sub. The combination of creamy tuna salad and the crunchy outside of the JJ's bread....ahhh, it was heavenly. Too bad I'm stuck here on Long Island - where food comes to die.
Have a nice walk!
MelsaEstel 04-15-04, 10:16 PM Well, I walked another hour and 15 minutes tonight. It was great! I bought a pedometer, but couldn't figure it out, so I just went with the timer going and the radio pumpin. I will definitly be going back out there. I found the best trail, it's very quiet, runs along the Chippewa River, and is beautiful. Too bad I only have 3 weeks to enjoy it!
More food. Dinner was wonderful!
chicken breast with seasoning
medium salad with tomato, green pepper, cucumber and ranch
garlic toast (made 2 pieces, only ate one)
tall glass of skim milk
I finished that darned project, just have to fine tune the presentation. It's been an incredibly productive day! Think I will go back to the apartment, do my 8 minute moves, have a no sugar added fudgesicle, watch a movie, and sleep. Sounds great!
jennylea 04-15-04, 11:16 PM Glad you had a productive day and nice walk, Melissa! Your dinner sounds yummy too! Have a good evening and a good day tomorrow! Talk to you then.
Hi Mel,
I was reading your dinner plan and god it sounds good, Im going to get to the shop and buy some chicken and salad...yum yum.
I was looking into buying a pedometre too, if you work yours out let me know how effective you find it....had one in my hand to buy yesterday and put it down as Im short on cash at the moment.....but really want one so I thinking of going back for it
Laoise
MelsaEstel 04-16-04, 08:53 PM Hey Laoise. My pedometer is interesting. I haven't tried it while walking, I think I figured out how it works last night. I woke up this morning to it screeching horribly. Not fun. Mine is made by Bell, and has a removeable pedometer with am/fm radio. It was cheap, and the radio is okay. I will try it our on the path tomorrow.
45 minute walk, as well as about 25 minutes of playing catch, soaking up the sun! How great! I have missed 75 degrees and sun!
Food:
BF: Brown sugar granola bar
L: Macaroni and cheese, chunk of cheese, diet cherry coke
snack: no sugar added fudgesicle
d: 2 small tortillas filled with ham, tomato, lettuce, tiny bit of cheese, and little ranch dressing. Tasty!
MelsaEstel 04-17-04, 05:38 PM I can't say how much I love this weather! 2 days in a row of above 70 degrees. Woo Hoo! So, we walked across campus from the apartment to a softball game, then for lunch, and back to the apt. We walked for a good hour, as well as standing at the game for about 30 minutes and sitting to eat for about 15. Lots of sun!
Food:
BF: 3 eggs, scrambled, sausage links
L: Orange chicken and fried rice, fortune cookie
D: More orange chicken and rice
sweetpea 04-17-04, 05:46 PM Hey Mel, I like your diary, way to go since that first day with the 2 brownies (sounds like something i'd do).
It's really well organised with your list of food at the end. I used to do a diary and may go back to it, although my food intake will be really embarrassing!!! I already finished off yesterday's batch of cookies for breakfast (gulp)
MelsaEstel 04-17-04, 09:53 PM Tha's not me blushing, it's my new sunburned forehead and nose:) Two days out in the sun is sure to do that to ya! After waling to the softball game this afternoon, we played some disc golf with the guys, so that was 2 more hours of sun. Yay for sunscreen season!
Weigh in tomorrow...will keep you posted.
also, another snack: Brown sugar granola bar
MelsaEstel 04-18-04, 11:41 PM First off, another pound down! That makes 2 pounds this week:) I am so excited. I wanted to jump up and down on the scale, but thought I would break it. I am glad that I have finally found something that works. It's not the miracle we all look for, but I can handle a little at a time! I changes my signature to include my weight loss goals. I am hoping to keep with this eating better and exercise, dropping between 1 and 2 pounds a week. That would put me at goal in October. We will see how it goes:)
Food for the day:
BF: Granola bar, glass skim milk
S: no sugar added popsicle
L: Chicken in sauce made of cream cheese and salsa, little tiny bit of sour cream, and 4 small tortillas
Late lunch, so it was dinner as well
S: no sugar added fudgesicle
S: Hershey bar
A litte much with sweets, but not too bad. It was a treat day, back to the grind tomorrow:)
About 40 ounces water, 12 oz can diet cherry coke. Need more water!
Corinna 04-19-04, 12:08 AM WOO HOO!! COngrats on your loss! Yay you!
Corinna
MelsaEstel 04-19-04, 02:26 AM Thanks Corinna! It feels great to finally be seeing some results!
Another great day! It was 77 degrees and sunny all day long! How beautiful. My leg has been really tight and sore, so I took a break from the walking today. Just relaxed. I will be walking on campus tomorrow, will see how the leg is feeling, probably walk in the park after classes and my presentation.
I wrote in my "buddy diary" about today. I wore shorts all day. I can't remember the last time I allowed people to see me in shorts!, so that was fun, a mini victory. Even got a little color on the legs. That will be nice. They are glowing in the sun now:)
Well, I hope to get to sleep now. Not walking or doing much of anything has left me restless. I am gonna attempt sleep, might pop in a movie. That usually helps. Last night I remember about 30 minutes of the movie:)
G'night all!
MelsaEstel 04-19-04, 02:29 AM BTW: it's 1:30 am, and still 75 degrees out:) I love sleeping with the window open! Tonight's low of 69. Woo Hoo, summer is here early!
I also changed my signature to include weight loss goals. I am excited to see them happen!
Hi Melissa!
You're doing great! Your goals look very reasonable to me. I'm hoping to get to my goal by October too (I'm shooting for another 64 lbs by then, probably too ambitious). But like you, I'm telling myself it's find as long as it's all gone this year! :D
I'm very proud of you for wearing shorts in public - all day long! Way to go! That's one of my goals too. Whew. It's a tough one, isn't it? But you did it! :balloons:
MelsaEstel 04-20-04, 02:14 AM Thanks Badger. It did feel like quite a feat at the end of the day. I didn't think much of it during the day. It seemed normal. Very cool:) It's amazing how that little bit of weight can give so much confidence!
I stepped on the scale today (I only want to check maybe 2 times a week tops), but had great news. It said 190! That means goal #1 has arrived! Now to make it disappear forever!:)
Food:
BF: half a granola bar
L: Leftover chicken/cream cheese/salsa with some sour cream. NO tortillas today
also a little leftover mac and cheese
D: Chicken strips and about half my fries dipped in honey mustard. Also had a cherry pepsi made with grenadine. Talk about sugar and carbs, that dinner had it all!
S: no sugar added fudgesicle, water
Haven't drank much of anything today. About 20 oz water and a big glass of pop at dinner. Definitly not even close to enough. More tomorrow!
WONDERFUL on reaching your first goal! :cheer:
Your doing super! :)
Beth :not:
MelsaEstel 04-20-04, 08:25 PM I am lacking motivation to exercise. It's been drab outside all day, and just want to stay in. I have been doing my 8 minute moves, but haven't walked (seriously walked) in a couple days. Just the between class stuff. I really need to get back to that!
Food so far:
BF: Nothing
L: Subway 6 in cold cut with honey mustard, olives, banana peppers, and tomato, diet pepsi
D: 2 pork chops broiled, salad and little bit cheddar cheese in tortilla with a little of the pork, ranch dressing
probably have a popsicle for a later snack. Maybe peanuts. Will report later if I have anything else.
eva.sunshine 04-21-04, 12:08 AM Hi Melissa:
Thanks for visiting my site and the words of encouragement. I love the way you divided your big weight lose goals down into little bit size goals and set specific dates.
I have a lot to lose and am feeling overwhelmed and think that idea is a really good one!!
Congratulations on reaching one of your goals - reward yourself!!
Eva
MelsaEstel 04-21-04, 01:35 AM Here's the rest of Tuesday
I got a bit munchy later on.
Snacks:
marble cheese (chunk of it)
no sugar added fudgesicle
1/4 cup dry roaster peanuts
I am working on 50 ounces of water for the day, but with the 20 ounces of pop earlier, it's still low. I really have to work on that!
I am gonna walk tomorrow. I have to do something! I don't want to get into my old walking habits.
jennylea 04-21-04, 11:57 AM Melissa! I'm trying to get caught up with everyone................congratulations on making your first goal! Baby steps, that's the best way. I'm so happy for you! I know how that must feel. Keep going, you are doing great.
I'm going to be on here more, I have to. It's the only way for me to stay motivated. I'm going to walk today too! On the treadmill, though. Keep getting out and getting that sunshine, I think it really helps.
Have a great day! I'll "see" you later!
MelsaEstel 04-22-04, 12:18 AM Today was interesting. Classes were good. Didn't eat all that well, but it wasn't terrible. TO make a story short, I think I am pretty dehydrated, making myself dizzy and weak to the point of nausia. So, I am drinking lots of water, trying to make that better. I don't like feeling like this.
Foods:
L: Subway 6" Turkey/Ham with honey mustard, banana peppers, olives and tomato
D: 2 plain hotdogs, diet cherry coke (12 oz)
S: soft pretzel dusted with cinnamon and sugar, caffiene free diet pepsi (12 oz)
S: granola bar, slice cheese, 1/2 cup peanuts
About 45 oz water so far, still sucking it down.
Walking tomorrow. If I don't report any walking, send me nasty messages! I need to get motivated to exercise again!
jennylea 04-22-04, 11:24 AM Go Walk, Melissa!
MelsaEstel 04-22-04, 10:47 PM THanks for the kick in the butt, Jenny! I finally got off my tush and walked. Only 40 minutes, but it was still good!
Food for the day.
BF: Granola bar
L: soft tacos with ground beef, taco seasoning, sour cream, salsa, little cheese, green pepper for the crunch:) and tortillas.
S: chunk cheese, 1/2 cup peanuts
S: medium banana, small apple
D: TBD, something small, maybe a salad and a pork chop
LOTS of water today, and I feel so much better. I have had about 80 oz water.
eva.sunshine 04-22-04, 11:56 PM Hi Melissa:
Keep up the healthy eating, drinking water and walking - you are going to be a beautiful and slim college grad!!
Take care of you - Eva
MelsaEstel 04-23-04, 01:19 AM Thanks Eva!
Dinner ended up being that salad with a pork chop. Instead of dressing, I used a little sour cream and salsa, and put some green pepper in it. So yummy! I figure, that's half the calories of the dressing I would have eaten.
Still working on the water. Once i finish what is in front of me, I will have consumed 102 oz. That's 4 days worth as far as I was drinking before!
jennylea 04-23-04, 12:51 PM Your dinner sounds yummy. Good call on the dressing, I'll have to try that.
Just stopped in to tell you to have a good Friday! I'm glad you walked, it's makes you feel better, doesn't it? Well, have a good weekend, talk to you soon.
MelsaEstel 04-23-04, 10:09 PM Spring fever. Every spring (along with about every other weekend) I get into a cleaning frenzy. In the last 2 days, I have cleaned my entire bathroom including scrubbing the tub, bedroom, vacuumed everything, packed up several boxes for moving in 2 weeks, did laundry, scrubbed the kitchen, among other things. It feels good. It keeps me away from the food! I start cleaning, and won't stop until I have to or am satisfied.
Food:
BF: 1/2 granola bar (comes in pack of 2)
L: 2 eggs, 5 sausage links
S: Banana
S: Chunk of cheese
D: 1.5 cup cheese tortellini with pasta sauce
S: will probably munch on somthing like a fudgesicle or peanuts or more fruit
drinking more water. I am at 32 oz, got a full nalgene (32oz) in front of me. I want to finish that before bed.
So far only 1200 calories. 1201 to be exact. Will have 100 at the most more tonight, depending on the snack.
Geez loueze,
Thats a lot of water.....Im gonna make a big effort today you've inspired me,...more water ,...more water
Laoise
MelsaEstel 04-24-04, 05:36 PM Water is great. It hasn't been that hard the last couple of days to keep drinking it.
Last night I ended up eating a small granny smith apple as a snack as well as about 1/2 cup peanuts. So I finished up under 1600 cals. A little higher than expected, but I did a lot yesterday. A little extra won't hurt too bad:) I also finished the water, so that makes 64 oz. Woo Hoo!
So far today, I have had:
BF: bowl banana nut cereal
S: granola bar
L: leftover tortellini
I weigh in tomorrow, hopefully it will be down. I have been holding at 190 for almost a week now. Time to drop!
Will let you know the rest of today!
Corinna 04-24-04, 05:54 PM Just wanted to let you know I'm lurking.. Hi! Keep up the great work! :)
Corinna
MelsaEstel 04-24-04, 08:23 PM Well, I made banana nut bread this afternoon. No big deal. My problem is that I was watching a movie when it was done baking, and I ate almost half of it! That's 900 calories right there. So not good, especially since I am weighing in tomorrow! Grrrrrr! Thinking I should go hit the gym now. Make up for some of those calories! I am really upset with myself right now. I have been doing so well. Gym, here I come! X-( X-(
Corinna 04-24-04, 09:07 PM I hope you went to the gym.
Can I have the other half? Mmmmmmmmm, banana bread.
:tomato:
Corinna
MelsaEstel 04-24-04, 10:46 PM Where should I send it Corrina? :D
Figured that with the bread, my cals for the day are at 2015. Would have been a great day if not for the bread!
Well, the gym was GREAT! Rode a bike for 35 minutes at a fast pace, then went to the track and ran/jogged for 20 minutes. Did 12 or 13 laps, 9 is a mile. I ran/jogged 4 of them. Should have ran more. I actually kinda enjoyed running tonight. Helped that I had the track to myself for a while. No competing with those already skinny girls who should go eat a pie instead of work out! So, I feel really good about myself now. It's times like this that I need to encounter that guy I have my eye on. I would probably have the guts to talk to him more than the usual class chats. Humph. (Sounds like middle school again:) I know...) I need to not be so shy. If I am with all people that I know, I can be super loud and chat away. As soon as I feel the slightest bit uncomfortable, I clam up. It sucks, I get so mad at myself.
Wow, talk about a tangent!
I should probably go shower. I just told a friend that my goal for the night was to make the apartment smell like butt. Nice of me, eh?
Corinna 04-25-04, 04:09 PM Brampton, Ontario Canada.. :D
I'm glad you enjoyed the gym.. It's always a good thing.
Corinna
MelsaEstel 04-25-04, 07:33 PM It's on it's way Corrina. Thanks for checking in on me so often!
I just got done working out with the roomie. She has the Slim in 6 tapes, and we just did 47 minutes of heavy duty stuff. I really feel it in the abs! I have them somewhere in among all that blub! :) It feels great. I want to go running later, but should probably take it easy tonight after all I just did. I am a little shaky, so it's time for a pear. Plenty of water too.
Food:
BF: nana
S:"Berry White" Cappuccino. White chocolate cappu with raspberry syrup. Shoulda asked for sugar free syrup. I know, loads of sugar, but I have been craving one forever. It's out of my system now (almost. I will probably haveone Wednesday with sugar free. Then I am outta town, and can't have them at all till fall)
L: 2 tortillas with small slice of ham, cheese, salsa, sour cream and green pepper (SO YUMMY! I want more!
S: fairly large pear
About 20 oz water so far
THinkin about dinner. Maybe more tortilla. It's pretty low carb and cal. About 400 cal, 30 carbs. Tasty! We will see.
MelsaEstel 04-25-04, 10:45 PM D: same as lunch.
According to fitday, I have had 1151 cals, and have burned about 500 with my workout this afternoon.
Only at 32 oz water today. Should go fill up another Nalgene, get me going!
I really feel like going and doing some laps at the gym tonight. I think I should rest and not push too hard. But I don't feel like this all the time and don't want to waste an urge to work out. I don't know. Think I should rest and do something for myself like a manicure. That might be fun...
MelsaEstel 04-26-04, 12:25 AM Forgot to add the calories for the cappuccino. That was probably a couple hundred, so I am around 1250ish. According to fitday, a mug of cappu is 78 cals, and I have no idea about the flavoring in it. So, about 1250. Oh! Had a no-sugar added fudgesicle, so another 25. 1275 for the day. Great compared to my 2015 yesterday!
another 22 oz water, so 54 oz total:)
Hi
I want to Thank you for your on going support to me - I am back on track - thanks to wonderful people like you - My new journal is posted in my signature.
Beth :not:
jennylea 04-26-04, 12:30 PM Just checking in Melissa! Have a great week! Did you get a manicure? That sounds fun.
MelsaEstel 04-26-04, 08:29 PM Hello again!
I didn't go get a manicure, just gave myself a terrible french manicure:)
I am glad I didn't go run las night. My legs are a little sore, pretty tight, so it would have been terrible to have run also! Phew!
Foods:
BF: water. Woke up too late, had to shower and get to class
L: hamburger with seasoning, little ranch and little ketchup, little melted cheese:)
S: diet cherry coke. First pop in almost a week, also chunk of mozza cheese
D: same as lunch and dinner yesterday. I am out of tortillas:( Have to find something esle to eat til I go to the store!
~20 oz water, have to make up for the pop! Get chuggin!
WOn't get to the gym tonight, will do some kind of workout at home. TOmorrow I can get there! the weather channel is saying tomorrow will reach a high of 44! Holy coldness, Batman!
millie47 04-26-04, 08:44 PM Hi Milissa, Just stop by to see how you are doing. Sounds like you are enjoying your work outs. Good for you, You will get to where you enjoy them more and more. it took me like a year just to like exerciseing. Now when I miss a day I feel quilty for missing it. Sounds like you are well on your way to your goals! keep up the good work! We all have times when we mess up, so at those time don't look back just keep moving forward. We will get to our goals one day.
have a GREAT week!!!................love ....Millie
MelsaEstel 04-27-04, 01:28 AM Thanks Beth, Jenny and Millie!
I have been stuck at 190 for a week now. My mini goal is to see 189 this week. One pound. I can do that!
I think the loss has stopped because I have been eating more sugar and carbs than before. I need to cut back on that again. Otherwise, I will be at 190 forever!
Off to read a little, then sleepyland. I am pooped!
kmsmit3 04-27-04, 11:04 AM Hi melsa!! Just stopping by. I didn't get a chance to read through the whole journal because i'm on a time crunch. but as for being stuck at 190, i get like that too. the last time i tried to lose weight i got stuck at 165, and yes as soon as icut back on carbs i started losing again. BUT i eventually gave up and gained it back. but neither of us will do that this time!
See you soon.
-Kelly
MelsaEstel 04-27-04, 03:24 PM Thanks for the encouragement Kelly! I really think that cutting back on the carbs and sugar will help. Even so, I decided to make mac and cheese for lunch. It has never been a problem to eat the whole box in one sitting. Today I could only eat half! Woo Hoo! I was thinking about it, and since I had just returned from the gym, I had drank plenty of water. So, that saved me! INstead of 900 cals in one sitting, I only had about 450, not too bad.
WEnt back to the gym this afternoon. Ran 5/9 laps for the mile, did a few more walking to cool off. Feels great! I am still just walking one, run 2, walk another, walk one, I don't have the endurance yet. Also rode a bike to warm up a little. So, that's 20 minutes on the track, 10 on the bike.
It snowed today. Just a little, but enough to make me want to head back inside. BOO SNOW!
Foods (as of 2;30):
BF: banana
L: mac and cheese
about 24 oz water
I'll be back!
melfl81 04-27-04, 07:56 PM JUST dropping in to say HI! Looks like you're eating pretty well and exercising awesomely too. I love running. I am so in love with it I am often afraid to branch out and do other forms of cardio....sigh.
Keep up the great work! Woo h oo!
Mel :D
MelsaEstel 04-27-04, 10:20 PM Thanks Mel! I am really enjoying running so far. I have hated it for the longest time! I want to go again tonight! We will see!
Well, today started off well. Ran, ate well, then this evening hit. I had a bowl of ice cream after spaghetti. So, the workout was kinda a waste. Oh well. Tomorrow will be another story!
Foods:
BF: banana
L: Mac n cheese
S: peanuts
D: spaghetti (whole wheat noodles, beef, and sauce)
S: ice cream
Not a huge bowl of it, but plenty! So, today I didn't show my willpower. We all have our down days. Back on tomorrow, and the rest of the night!
kmsmit3 04-27-04, 10:34 PM Do you really just have a banana for bf? WOW i could never function all day on that.
MelsaEstel 04-27-04, 10:39 PM I don't like to eat breakfast, so I try to have at least something. Especially today since I was going to the gym. I didn't want to go on a complletely empty stomach. I knew that I would come back home and eat lunch also:)
MelsaEstel 04-28-04, 09:24 PM Last day of classes was today! I just have to make it through a presentation on Monday and an exam, and I am DONE FOR THE SUMMER!
Foods:
L: leftover mac n cheese
S: pear
S: chunk mozzarella cheese
S: berry white cappuccino
D: hamburger (no bun) with a little ranch and katsup, small salad with little ranch, cheese and green pepper
Not too bad:)
Off to finish the night, then a busy day tomorrow!
Wow! Mel! You’re done for the summer!! It’s so good to have a whole summer to enjoy!!
I finish my job on June 15 and I have 1 ½ month in front of me!!! Wish I finished this week!!
MelsaEstel 04-29-04, 11:05 PM It's great to be done with classes already, even though I still have to attned 2 on Monday. Nothing too hard though:) I am so lucky with exams this semester! I sold back my books, and paid off a credit card with some of the cash, so that made me feel good!
I checked the scale this morning, and it said 188. :caf: <---That was me, I was so excited! So, just to make sure, I checked back a couple hours later, and sure enough, still 188! WOO HOO! So, I need to change my stats now:) I don't mind that chore! Food today has been so so. A lot of carbs again, and no working out:( I am not going to worry about it. TOmorrow I am moving stuff out which means lots of lifting and carrying boxes around. HOpefully I can get a run in too.
Foods:
BF: Granola bar
L: 3/4 chicken breast sliced and placed in 2 tortillas like last week's ham tortilla cravings:) cheese, sour cream, salsa, green pepper
S: chunk cheese
S: 3 bites ice cream
D: tortellini and stuffed shells with pasta sauce
I also found diet root beer, the IBC brand which is the BEST! Need to drink water, haven't had much at all in the last couple days.
Weigh in is Sunday. Hope to be down another one!
MelsaEstel 04-30-04, 04:20 AM I am turning into an insomniac. It's 3:30, still awake. Man! I don't like this, especially since I most likely will be working mornings this summer! I have to get back on a good schedule!
Good night all! Have a wonderful Friday!
Fantastic job on getting to 188! You did great - sticking to your plan even while you were so stressed at the end of the school year. Good going!
Oh, and I love how you put the ninja smilie in your signature - very cute!
wonderful about your reaching 188 lbs :cheer:
Beth :not:
MelsaEstel 05-03-04, 12:29 AM Thanks Badger and Beth!
Well, It's been a few days since I have posted or kept track of my food. My roommate took home all our pots and pans, so it's difficult to cook now! I have been super busy all weekend, so I have been eating what is convenient. So, I have gained a little. Only a pound. I am blaming it on morning bloat. I had to check real quick this morning before I headed out. I couldn't get out of bed early enough to do anything but get dressed, brush teeth, throw on a hat, and head out the door with an apple in mouth. So, yea. Not a great weekend foodwise, but great in most other regards. Last one of the school year, I will be done with finals at about 3pm Monday (TOMORROW!) and home Thursday night. AHHH!
Off to start studying. Nothing like last minute cramming! I have to be out of the house by 11:45 tomorrow, and I don't wake up early enough to study. It's all about tonight. Talk to you later when I am on summer vacation (my last one EVER :O
jennylea 05-03-04, 11:55 AM :) Happy to hear that your last day is today!
Sorry I haven't been here much.......the email with a reply on it is way too convenient. I don't even have to click on the link to read it.
You are still doing wonderfully, keep it up. Even if I'm not posting, I'm always lurking! Have a great Monday!
MelsaEstel 05-04-04, 02:43 PM It's definitly time to start journaling foods again. I have been eating so badly lately. Ugh! Yesterday:
BF: 3 small cookies (my prof was supposed to bring breakfast food, brought cookies and chips instead, and of course I was relying on that for my food.)
L: 1 chicken breast, seasoned
1 serving green giant pasta combos
1 cup green beans
D: Pizza (2 slices from a medium)
2.5 breadsticks
marinara sauce
S: 2 more slices pizza
S: small apple
Lots of carbs and fat. Must do better today
So far...
BF: 3 eggs scrambled
2 tortillas
little bit salsa
little bit cheese
chunks of pineapple
water
mulitvitamin
Since I have been eating badly again, my meal sizes are getting larger. I have to remidy that, quick! It's hard enough to stay on track here, it's going to be worse with my mom cooking! Every meal she makes for 3 people could serve 8. So, that is going to be tough! I need to get stuff done today. First task, shower! Have a great one!
millie47 05-04-04, 09:16 PM Hi melissa, Just stop by to see how you are doing. Sounds like you have been busy. Hope things slow down for you soon. Glad to see you are journaling your food again. keep up the good work, you will get there.
Have a GREAT one!
......Love ..Millie
MelsaEstel 05-04-04, 09:26 PM Oh man! I am pooped. I talked with my parents this afternoon, and they have decided to come get the rest of my stuff tomorrow evening. That means that this is my last night here. I am sad since I don't have much time to see everyone before I go, not to mention have a day to just relax ( I have been cleaning like mad since they called around 4). On the other hand, I get to get away from some people. I find that i can be very negative when I am around them, especially about them. I am ready to get away and get those feelings out of my heart. I don't like being bitter.
Food: Haven't had much more, I have been cleaning and packing
D: Leftover chicken, noodle, cheesy green bean stuff.
I am going out for one final night with some people for the summer. Will probably have some beer. Should eat a little more before I go.
Right now I am listening to Alice Cooper "School's Out For Summer". How appropriate!
Well, got a couple more things to do before I head out tonight.
MelsaEstel 05-05-04, 04:07 PM Moving day. I have been packing and lugging boxes around all day. My parents will be here any second to get the big stuff. So, off I go.
Food:
So far only lunch
L: cheeseburger with mayo(WHY DO THEY DO THAT?) lettuce, tomato
vanilla shake
My parents are taking me out for food when we get here, seeing how the rest of my food is gone. A friend came over to "grocery shop", took most of the extra food in the apartment. :) So, I have a couple more things to get before I go.
Make a great day everyone!
melfl81 05-05-04, 04:23 PM Hey Melissa!
Oh how I remember the days of finals and gearing up to head out of the dorms and such. I mean, that was a year ago----wow, a year ago. That's weird to think I have only been out of school one year.
Don't worry about not eating so perfectly. I do it too...damn chocolate and brownies. And I used to do it especially more often when I was stressed out. But looks like things are going well with you!
Need to run! Work day is almost over and I am so excited about going home! Woo hoo!
Have fun with your parents...cherish them so much because you never know when it's their time to go. I know what you mean about getting bitter....I do it too.
Have a great day! :D
Melinda

MelsaEstel 05-07-04, 12:18 AM Thanks Melinda and Eva! It is nice to be home. A bit strange thinking I will be here til August. I haven't been here that long term in 2 years!
Food has been messed up the last couple days. I have been so busy that I don't think to eat. Here's my list for today:
BF: Atkins shake
L: half box mac and cheese, little bit of parmesan on top
D: hunk of roast, mashed tatoes, green beans
S: Peanut butter toast (3 pieces)
Shouldn't have eaten all 3, only needed one or two.
I have only had about 20 oz water, need to drink much more since I have been working up a sweat with all this moving!
Tomorrow's another busy day, so I need to get rested
MelsaEstel 05-07-04, 11:54 PM :) I went to a "Girls Night Out" party with my mom tonight. Had a beer with some of my middle school teachers:) I also had a massage and had my lashes tinted. It was a good night.
Foods:
BF: Instant breakfast shake thing with FF Skim milk
L: nothing. Still unpacking, forgot about food
D: spaghetti (whole wheat noodles) with pasta sauce and beef
2 slices white bread (from my favorite bakery, couldn't resist)
S: chocolate chip walnut cookie (also from the bakery. My FAVORITE cookie!)
S: 2 finger sandwiches, 2 cookie bars, bite size cheesecake
also had two 20 oz bottles of water and a corona, diet cherry coke before dinner, and water before.
Can't be doing the snacking tomorrow. As long as I keep busy, it's not an issue. No other parties, so no more of those yummy finger foods, too!
MelsaEstel 05-10-04, 12:50 AM Time to play catch up again!
Saturday:
BF: don't remember. Something small
L: less than a cup mac and cheese
D: venison burger with ranch and ketchup, on a bun, 2 slices of my yummy bread
S: 3 choco chip cookies
Sunday:
BF: 2 cookies (terrible, I know!)
L: Cajun Chicken sandwich from CHilis. Didn't touch the fries:)
S: 4 cookies (they aren't very big ones!)
D: egg drop soup, 1 egg roll, small portion (less than 1 cup each) fried rice, steak kow, and sweet n sour pork, 3 cups tea
Tomorrow has to be better. Will probably start with an instant breakfast, go to class, snack on a granola bar while on campus or driving home, most likely hot dogs or steak on the BBQ for dinner, make sugar free jello for a snack.
I need to find good stuff to take with me to class (I start back tomorrow!). Definitly water, my class is on the 3rd floor, it's gonna be hot! I would like to take something to munch on if we have a break in the middle of the 3 hour class, or at least something for when we get out. Any suggestions? It can't be refrigerated (it will be in my backpack or a hot car for almost 4 hours).
Have a wonderful week!
MelsaEstel 05-11-04, 12:27 AM Quick update, then I am outta here. I am sorry to all of you who I usually post messages to in your journals. I have about 20 minutes a night online, so its been hard to visit. Hopefully that will change soon!

I haven't been having as many snacks as I used to. It's been 3 meals and usually one snack. Not too bad. I need to find a scale so I can see if I am losing, gaining or staying the same. I think tha's why I gained so much in the last couple years. If I had known I was gaining so much, I would have done something about it.
MelsaEstel 05-15-04, 01:25 AM Friday. Doesn't feel like it!
Went to check up on applications today, hopefully will hear from at least one of them soon!
Foods:
BF: Special K snack bar
S: chunk cheese
D: 2 hamburger patties with cheese and ranch and ketchup
S: peanut butter and honey sandwich
Drank quite a bit of water too. I haven't been hungry most of the day. Got busy doing things again, and I don't think about food. I feel energized, so I don't think I am not eating enough.
Off to sleep, spending the morning/afternoon with my mom tomorrow.
Are you just not listing any fruits and vegetables that you eat? I mean, I know you do the menus from memory, so maybe you're forgetting to write those down? Just wondering. =)
MelsaEstel 05-15-04, 11:53 PM Timmi- I haven't been eating many fruits or veggies. I definitly need to! My mom usually doesn't serve them We're a one item meal family.
I bought a scale today :( In 2 weeks, I have gained almost 10 pounds. I am 198.5, back to where I started from. I know it will be a couple less in the morning since I weighed around 10:15 pm. I thought I was doing fairly well. At least maintained. So, I don't know if the last scale was wrong, or if this new one is wrong (it gave the same reading twice and went back to 0 when I was done) or if I really have gained it back. I need to start my cooking again. Mom's food just isn't cutting it. I am so frustrated. I was doing some reading for a class tonight and when I finished, I just had to get out of the house. I was all of a sudden depressed. So I walked around stores for almost 2 hours, and bought the scale. Seeing that number definitly did not help me at all.
I just don't know what to do or think right now. I am mostly numb right now. Just in shock, a bit depressed.
I need to do something about all this tomorrow. I can't feel sorry for myself. THat never helps. So, after I am done with this message it's over. I am moving on. One last vent, and it's over. AHHHHH!
Food:
BF: instant breakfast
L: 3 slices pizza, all small
D: fajitas (tortillas, sour cream, salsa, cheese, taco seasoned venison strips)
I haven't been hungry the last week. I don't know what is going on. Could that be part of my gaining weight? Even though I don't feel hungry, my body is storing fat up when I don't eat? I just don't know.
Wow...
MelsaEstel 05-17-04, 12:35 AM well, today was a lot better than last night. I found out that the scale I was using before was wrong, so I haven't gained a ton of weight since I got home. Also, I checked this morning, and it said 194.5, 4 pounds less than last night. Still more than I wanted to see, but much better than almost 199! I never want to see 200!
Foods:
BF: 2 eggs
L: nothing. Got busy, forgot about food
S: banana
D: 2 bratwurst, pasta salad, green beans
S: DQ blizzard (threw away half of it)
Am drinking more water right now.
I also got some walking in today. About 15 minutes on the treadmill. I get bored on that thing, and don't have very good balance, so I don't enjoy the treadmill. I also walked around town and cleaned, so I was up and down off a chair, up and down the stairs, and walking around to put stuff away.
Feeling 2000% better than last night:)
I hate the scale! I do WW and I turn my back to the readout and tell them not to tell me. I used to be so compulsive and obsessive, as well, about the numbers. I figure that as long as I follow WW and exercise, I'll lose weight and it's been working so far. =)
I'm impressed by anyone that can actually lose weight eating at home. I know that I'd probably be perfectly round if I lived with my mom.
Good luck with everything. =)
P.S. You're far more brave than I am, I refuse to even have one bite of a blizzard! Those things are hazardous to my health. ;)
MelsaEstel 05-18-04, 12:08 AM I also hate the scale, but if I see it, I step on up. It's sad sometimes. I need to learn that numbers aren't everything. I tried on some pants that I haven't worn in a couple years. They are a bit too tight, but not terrible. They are so cute, they are another reason I want to drop the inches. I have so many cute things to wear, but the body just won't do it. At least not in any sort of flattering way:) I can wear them, but it isn't pretty! Bulges, wedgies, wrinkles. Ugh. Someday soon!
My parents are talking about low-carbing it. I am going grocery shopping with my mom tomorrow and hopefully getting lots of fruits and veggies. They just eat crap all the time. So, I hope to show them some of the things I ate and the way I prepared them that will help us all lose weight.
Food today:
BF: Banana
L: granola bar
S: Banana
D: steak, green beans, baked potato on the bbq ( my special recipe)
S: piece chocolate cake
that requires extra walking tomorrow!
Off to sleep. I am pooped!
Congrats on the fruits and veggies. =)
MelsaEstel 05-20-04, 12:26 AM

SHould have made something earlier instead of pizza in the first place!
Yesterday I searched for jobs, so did a lot of walking around stores and to and from my car. A bit discouraging again yesterday. Did hear fairly good news from Home Depot and another place.
Today- class was good, did a lot of talking which never happens with me:) Also got a very part time job delivering cookie orders. Hey, it's cash for a while! I should hear back from Home Depot tomorrow. They should just hire me and get me working! COme on guys! Wemt walking at the park tonight. A friend and I made "friends" with the animals. We had a swan follow us down the boardwalk (swimming about 3 feet away from us). Good times. So that was a couple miles. I enjoy walking the trails. I will be doing a lot of that this summer! Just have to rid Kelly of her fear of humidity!
Looking forward to working tomorrow, and hopefully getting a second job. That would be great! Complaining of no job, to having 2 the next!
G'night!
MelsaEstel 05-20-04, 12:36 AM I went grocery shopping with my mom yesterday. I loaded the cart with fruits and veggies. She never buys them, but it's amazing how much of it is already gone! I will get her in the habit of buying fruits and veggies more often!
Yay for fruits and vegetables! =) It looks like you're doing the whole '5 small meals' thing pretty well. Good for you! =)
melfl81 05-20-04, 08:43 AM Hey there!
Looks like you're having a decent week! I try to do the mini meals too, eating tons of fruits and veggies in the middle of the day and build up my metabolism.
I will keep my fingers crossed you get the Home Depot Job!!!!
Have a lovely weekend!
Melinda :D
MelsaEstel 05-21-04, 12:31 AM THanks Timmi and Melinda! I feel a lot more comfortable with my eating habits. Didn't do so well today:(
L: turkey sandwich (it was more of a brunch deal:))
D: 5 silver dollar pancakes, 2 sausage links, cherry coke
S: kettle corn
S: apple
Tomorrow will be a better day. Today was stressful, and I turned to the pancakes as comfort. I don't know why I didn't eat much the rest of the day. Keepin busy!
No Home Depot job for me. Apparently I don't meet their qualifications. They have an online application and questionarre, I guess I didn't give the exact answers they wanted. I hate those things. Oh well. I found out about another place, and am going to meet the manager tomorrow. We will see how it goes!
Thanks for the encouragement!
MelsaEstel 05-22-04, 11:38 PM Not too much to report. No job, a little weight loss (another half pound) and decent with foods. Here goes...
Friday
L: turkey sandwich
D: ham and cheese gyro. YUM!
S: apple
I made 3 deliveries, so I was in the car for 2 hours, drove 100 miles. That's not so good with the high gas prices. Ugh!
Saturday:
BF: grapefruit
S: chunk cheese
L: salad (romaine, green red and yellow pepper, cucumber, tomato, ranch dressing)
S: banana
D: meat simmered in cream muchroom soup over noodles, another salad
S: cheese
S: apple
S: ice cream, slice coffee cake
I was really munchy today. Don't know why. Glad we have fruits around!
sweetpea 05-23-04, 12:16 AM Hmmmmm your salads sounds yummy and a pretty balanced day all round. Keep up the good work. You do well remembering everything and writing it down. Are you still counting calories?
p.s. what's a gyro
MelsaEstel 05-23-04, 01:27 AM Thanks Talia. A gyro is a Greek sandwich usually lamb meat and other stuff in a pita with a special sauce. I don't eat lamb, so mine had ham, cheese, tomato and lettuce with the sauce. They are so good!
I am not counting calories. I don't have the time to plug everything into fitday. I seem to be doing just as well without counting:)
