I think this journal is really going to help me stay on track with my diet and exercise goals. Feeling very positive this morning, planning a long walk with my walking buddy (a friend who lives in the same building).

Took a four hour seminar recently on Emotional Eating. Took away a couple of valuable things.

Firstly, I must be mindful of my eating. I know in the past a lot of my overeating was totally out of control - just stuffing the food in. The idea is to be aware of my eating, am I really hungry, maybe I'm dehydrated, or maybe (likely in my case) the eating is a response to my emotions. I know when I have had a hard day I am feeling tired and a bit sorry for myself, the first thing I want to do is reward myself with food. I live alone and when I'm feeling alonely I want to overeat as well. Actually, lets face it, I eat through a lot of my emotions - it seems to be my default response. Need to be aware and make some changes in this area

Secondly, we talked about the glycemic index and the need to keep the blood sugar levels at a constant level. I really am trying to do this by eating foods with a low GI and am trying to eat smaller more frequent meals throughout the day.

Well, off for now - looking forward to hearing from some like minded people

FEELING POSITIVE

Starting today I am going to return to writing down everything I eat and using WW to calculate points - It has worked to help me lost 85 pounds and I know it will work again if I stick with it.

One Day at a Time

Whatever the goal we're pursuing
no matter how rugged the climb,
we're certain to get there
by trying our best,
and taking one day at a time.

"Forever" is hard to imagine,
"the future" may seem far away -
but every new dawn
brings a wonderful chance
to do what we can on that day.

TODAY I PROMISE I WILL NOT QJIT. I PLEDGE THAT NO MATTER HOW MANY UPS AND DOWNS I PASS THROUGH I WILL CONTINUE ON MY JOURNEY. I PLEDGE TO MAKE A NEW START TODAY AND EVERYDAY AND FORGIVE MYSELF FOR MY PAST. TO STOP BEING SO CRITICAL OF MYSELF. I PLEDGE TO TAKE CONTROL OF MYSELF. TO STOP MAKING EXCUSES AND STOP BLAMING OTHER PEOPLE OR SITUATIONS. I PLEDGE TO TREAT MYSELF AS I WOULD MY BEST FRIEND; BECAUSE THAT IS WHO I AM. I PLEDGE TO STAY IN THE RACE AND TO BE A WINNER

I can succeed, if I believe

Right on track with my eating the last week, hoping it shows on the scales.

Well have been having a very successful week - sticking with my eating plan and walking regularily with my walking buddy. My friend Andree is a real source of help for me. She is overweight herself and trying to lose also.

Yesterday I had a little hiccup in my diet plans - I didn't totally blow the whole day, but had some potatoe salad and two large cookies.

Me and two friends are going to join TOPS. We all belonged previously, but quit for one reason or another (it conflicted with my work schedule). Have found a group and time we can all go. We have been supporting each other over the past two months, but have found we don't do as well as we did when we belonged to TOPS. So it's back to TOPS.

Trying this week to eat smaller more frequent meals. Found that I was getting too hungry and then my willpower was low and I would pig out.

Going for a walk now with Andree.

I can succeed, if I believe I can!! :cheer:

:( TODAY WAS A DISASTER EATING WISE

Somedays I just can't seem to control my overeating. Today was one of those days. I bought a bag of cookies with the idea that I would control myself and eat one or two occasionally - well I ate the whole bag. If I buy chips I don't just eat a few, I eat the whole big bag and a container of dip.

Thin people I know, can control themselves - they eat one or two cookies and a container of dip lasts weeks in their fridge.

I wish I could buy snack type foods and have them in the house to eat once in while - but I just pig out!!

I wish I could say I learned something about myself through this overeating experience, but I don't really think I did. I feel so lousy when I lose control like this.

Okay Eva, enough feeling sorry for yourself - be solution minded.

1) Buy single cookies from the grocery store (in bakery section) instead of a whole bag

2) Buy only the small bags of chips and make your own low-calorie dip

Tomorrow is another day and I can succeed if I believe - and see I did learn something from today.

Wow, had a great day, stayed right on track with my diet, despite a difficult and tiring day!!

Went birdwatching yesterday, got lots of exercise, walked for 3 hours!!

I love reading everyone's journals, real inspiring to see how others are winning the battle.

Today I believe I can do anything I put my mind to - just keep believing!!

I will be your own personally cheerleader - cheering you on to a successful quit smoking! :cheer:

Wow! That was kinda strange. Hope that you got it all figured out!

Congrats on figuring out a weak spot with the chips and dip. I, too, love them. I have cut out potatoes. I had a little on easter in a dish, and a few fries a couple days ago. That has helped my cravings a ton.

Jude, that garlic dip sounds wonderful. I am also a fan of garlic. Yum!

Eva, it's awesome that you have chosen to quit smoking. I wish you the best of luck in your journey.
I also feel that this website is a blessing. I have never stuck to losing weight at all for any length of time, until I got here! I will continue to be checking in on you and cheering on!

Thanks to everyone for their support regarding my first day as a non-smoker (Beth 150, Tiva76, MelsaEstel, and Jude 2) You guys are awesome

I had a pretty good day eating wise and went for an hour long walk along the river with my friend!! If I walk in the morning it motivates me to continue my healthy ways and eat well for the day.

Have my niece's birthday party on Saturday afternoon, - I have already decided to have a small piece of cake, no ice cream. Trying to be extra good till then!!

Tiring day - going to bed early

Take Care

Thanks to Bell, MelsaEstel and Beth 150 for all your support.

Have not been on-line for about a week. Feeling discouraged about smoking again. Went for 3 days then gave in. Have been smoking a pack a day again for the past 5 days. I have lots of support in my life to quit - here on-line and all my family and friends have been just fantastic! I need to re-evaluate my strategy and have a better plan for when I'm tempted to have one. I have been having some difficulty breathing and the doctor says that it is the smoking catching up with me - being out of breath is a very scary feeling and I need to remind myself of this whenever I'm tempted to smoke. Will pick a new quit date sometime soon (within the week), but need to take a long hard look at myself!!

On the positive side I'm down 6 pounds since I joined diet talk on April 9th. With the hockey playoffs (Go Flames Go) in full swing have yet to join the TOPS group I am planning to join. I should be able to do that this coming Tuesday. Me and two friends are joining together. I have found in the past that belonging to a group and weighing in weekly really helps keep me accountable.

Busy doing spring cleaning this past week. Washing all the walls (they sure get dirty when you smoke), cleaning out storage room, closets, draws, etc.
Place looks great and it feels wonderful to have it done.

Hockey game starting - bye for now. Think thin and you will win!!

Sorry about your discouragement. Don't beat yourself up too badly. We all slip sometimes. Just time to get back on track. Let us know your new quit date so we can cheer you on!

Congrats on the 6 pounds gone! That's a really healthy loss:)

Flames? GO WINGS!

Sorry, had to:) Tha'ts what the playoffs do to me!

Have a great weekend, and good luck with your cutting back on smoking. You can do it!

Well, still smoking - gearing up for another quit attempt.

Thanks MelsaEstel for your kind words. Following your lead and setting the following mini goals to take me throught till the end of the year:

252 by July 27
232 by October 12
220 by Dec 28Joined TOPS yesterday with a start weight of 281. Feeling really positive about joining and getting a fresh start. The group seems like a real nice group of people and the meetings seem inspiration!!

Plan to walk as much as possible and start lifting weights to build lean body mass.

Also plan to write down everything I eat and track WW points.

Will come on diet-talk every Tuesday night or Wednesday morning a report my weekly progress!!

Haven't been below 200 since I was about 17 years old - one of my goals is to reach the magical number of 200 pounds. That will be a major accomplishment for me!!

Thanks to everyone for their support and good luck with your own weight loss efforts. Keep smiling!! :cheer:
