This information was taken and copied from an article written by Jean Carper from her EAT SMART column in today's Sunday newspaper:

IF YOU'RE NOT TAKING A MULTIVITAMIN, YOU SHOULD, AND YOUR DOCTOR SHOULD ENCOURAGE YOU TO , insists a new report by a panel of experts headed by Jeffrey Blumberg, Ph.D. of Tufts University and David Heber, M.D. of UCLA.

A DAILY SUPPLEMENT CAN LESSEN INFECTIONS AND MAY REDUCE THE RISK OF HEART DISEASE, CANCER, OSTEOPOROSIS AND MACULAR DEGENERATION.

The people most likely to lack the nutrients found in a daily multivitamin/mineral pill are LOW-CALORIE DIETERS, OBESE ADULTS, TEENAGERS WITH POOR EATING HABITS, OLDER PEOPLE AND PREGNANT WOMEN.

Shockingly, only 40% of doctors urge women of childbearing age to take vitamins, even though it's known that folate (a B Vitamin) prevents birth defects.
