Today is Day 1 of the rest of my life. I weighed in last night at TOPS at 250 pounds on my 5'9" body. I have just been coasting I guess, not being so concerned until hitting that "big" number. Well, that did it. Not to mention the fact that I believe I was "oinked" at while at the supermarket the other night 8-| I happened to notice the words Rice Diet on the home page of this site the other day and I did some research. I also read a rather interesting book titled "Fat Like Us" and although I certainly can't afford to go to Durham North Carolina for the "official" program, I'm sure I can get the same results with the rice diet plan and attending TOPS meetings for support (although I wonder how much support I'd get when they find out about my chosen food plan!). I've ordered one of the two books that have the plan and I've started on my own today. It won't be easy, but it will be worth it to lose 100 lbs and wear size 8! Well, I'm off to get my bowl of rice and my fruit, I'll check in later. More about me at my home page (http://home.comcast.net/~kimmykat63)

Hi KimmyKat , I'm so sorry you where "oinked" , people can be so cruel . I'm going to go check out the rice diet . Good luck !

Well I checked it out and I wish you the best of luck , I could not do it . If I don't have enough salt I get really bad leg cramps . :(

Hi there!

I read your post and then had to go right over to the rice diet website to see what the heck it was - a diet I'd never heard of?! Impossible! :D But true. I'd never heard of this one.

Diets like the rice diet (and, I might add, like Medifast) convince me that overweight people have MORE willpower than most of humanity! You have to have a boatload of willpower to stick with such a restrictive plan. I'm wishing you the absolute best of luck.

Although, if you'll put up with it for a second, I would like to get on my soapbox momentarily. I wish you'd chosen a plan with more balance. I'm worried that you'll be getting zero protein as long as you're in phase 1. And please take a multivitamin while you're doing this. Rice is a great staple food, but it's meant to be supplemented with veggies and meat. It's not very healthy all by its lonesome. I'm not trying to discourage you - you sound so enthusiastic and that's wonderful - just urging you to be careful and keep track of all your required nutrients. We want you healthy!

Hi summering,
sorry to hear about the leg cramps, isn't it interesting how our body just has to have balance in all things. :)

Badger! Good to "see" you. I really did give the Cambridge plan a good try, but I just gotta have something to eat. Phase 1 of the rice diet is usually only meant for the first two weeks (unless you're rich/fortunate enough to go to Durham where they check your vitals everyday) and then veggies and proteins are added. I have a book coming from the original Rice House that explains the program and has recipes. After the initial phase, it's basically a low sodium, no dairy diet, mostly vegetarian. Similar to the McDougall plan I guess. In any case, I have another Dr. appointment in May and I'll ask the research team about this plan. It's ok about the soapbox, I actually appreciate it :x
