Well HERE'S an interesting quandry I find myself in. It's actually the reason I wanted to find a support group online.

To me, it sounds like whining, but I don't know quite how to deal with it. I tried on one of my favorite spring suits today that I haven't worn in about a month and a half with the intention of wearing it for a wedding this weekend. When I looked in the mirror, I realized that it's WAY too big. I looked like a child playing dress-up in Mommy's clothes.

I've lost 52 lbs since January (and have 48 more to go) and this is the first time in my entire life I've ever shrunk out of a piece of clothing that I love! It's pointless to have it tailored because by December I'll be at my goal weight anyway.

How do you all deal with the loss of a beloved piece of clothing?

Thanks.

First of all I just want to say congratulations Hypnotic. I remember what it was like to say good-bye to a piece of clothing that I once adorded, but you know what it is time to let go and be a blessing to somebody else and think about that person's face when they see such a beautiful suit and go out and go shopping and make a memory with another article of clothing and think how blessed you are to be able to have lost the amount of weight you have and celebrate by buying you something as beautiful as you feel about your accomplishments and keep up the good work and once again congrautulations to you.

congrats on losing the weight. its probably tough having to find new clothing to tailor your new body, but just like leslie said, remember the positives of your situation. there are many overweight people out there (including myself :sigh: ), who would love to have all their clothes be too big. and there are also many people who lose clothes because their too big to fit them anymoe. you'll be able to find new clothes that you like just as much, and plus, theyll look better on you. good luck with the next 48.

Hypnotic- Clothes wear out and bodies change and socks go into the vortex of the washer. The bottom line is you have to live with change.

I have clothes that I love now (a favorite pair of jeans, for example), but as soon as I get too small for them (which I almost am, they really are starting to look bad), I'll buy more and pretty soon I'll have entirely different favorites. Ask yourself what you liked most about that suit and look for a similar trait in another suit.

Clothing is clothing, though I get attached to stuff too. I have this hockey jersey that I cant part with, and I know that even if I weighed 140 pounds, I'd still be sleeping in it regardless of how big it was lol.

However, I can't wait to be able to buy clothing in the juniors section, so I guess in a way I'm sort of anxious to get rid of my favorites :o

Having to get new clothing is just part of dieting.

Congratulations on the loss, BTW!!!

If it's an article of clothing I really_have emotional
investment with, then I hang on to it. The time will come when
it can be recycled to the thrift store, but Im not going to push
it either. We're talking clothes here after all :D

We all get to the place where parting is no longer sweet sorrow
it's simply saying good bye and thanks for the memories and
we're fine with it. Till then, do what makes you feel the best
about where you started, where you are now and where you
desire to be in the future.

This reminds me of something funny from a few weeks ago- I was cleaning out my dresser drawer and found some size XL knit shorts that I used to wear a few years back, and tried them on. They were like baggy clown pants! Today I wear a medium 10 or 12, and with a little self discipline I could wear an 8. :)
