View Full Version : How do you describe your body?
lurkaholic 08-06-04, 12:05 AM I've been looking into online dating sites...and they all ask you to state your body type. I have no idea whether I am "a few extra pounds" or "thick" or "voluptuous." Hell, when people ask for BBWs to respond to their post, I don't know if I qualify.
So here's my question/survey -- how would you describe your body to a stranger so as to be most accurate? I'm just trying to get a feel for what terms are out there and what they mean to the smart and lovely Diettalk folks.
I guess it all depends on how you see yourself! One person may say to themselves that they have a few extra pounds, but to another person that same few pounds might be voluptuous.
What is BBW?
I agree with what dea said.
I view myself as having "a few extra pounds", but to someone else I may be just "thick".
BBW= big beautiful women/woman
Oh. In that case, I would say that if you feel that you are big and beautiful, you are :)
Unless you're worried you aren't big enough?
I'm tellin' ya. Some days I feel athletic, some days fat, some days thick, some days a few extra pounds, some days skinny... :D
brightonbell 08-06-04, 12:53 PM I would describe myself as curvy and voluptuos, even though most other people would probably describe me as fat!! I agree with dea that it's all about how you feel and what you want to project to other people. I feel voluptuos, not fat, and I (and my man) think I'm sexy too! :o
christy120 08-06-04, 03:00 PM I'll be walking down the street and I'll see my full reflection in a store window next to the reflection of a woman I thought was the same size/body type as me. Usually, I'm totally wrong. I'm always looking at other people on the street and saying, "OK, I think I'm about that size or that body type." The reality, however, always turns out that I pick people who are much thinner than me. Maybe I've just never been able to come to terms with my weight.
I know what you mean Christy. I used to always see myself as smaller than I really was. Then I hit 287 pounds and decided that I wasn't so small anymore lol
I don't lie to myself and say I just have "a few extra pounds" or "baby fat". I know what I am and what I have to lose. What am I? Obese.
lurkaholic 08-06-04, 09:38 PM I know what you guys mean by "it's all how you see yourself," but if you're describing yourself to someone else, wouldn't you go by how most other people see you? And then how do you know if they see you as voluptuous or thick?
I guess I just have some fear that everyone else knows the differences between these terms and I am just out of the loop...
Don't fret about it, there is no loop. =)
Everyone has a different opinion on what the words mean, there aren't really any hard and fast rules. Every body is different, so while 10lbs extra might make me look thick, it might make someone else look curvy. It's all about genetics and attitude. =)
Yeah, what Timmi said. I wouldn't fret over it too much. Describe yourself as you feel you are, not how you think other people perceive you. If you keep telling people you're curvy, and you believe that and act that, that's probably how they will see you. :)
Jumpsoda 08-07-04, 10:43 PM Carbon life form, mixture of Nitrogen, O2 and lots of H2O in all the right places.
swirlsweet 08-08-04, 12:29 PM i would say curvy for sure..hour glass figurer..and i LOVE IT!!!
i know i can never be skinny...but i LOVE shapeing my figurer to make it MORE appealing! :D
spookie149 08-08-04, 01:30 PM I look like the before chick in all the metabolife ads you find in magazines. Not for much longer though.
christy120 08-10-04, 02:06 PM Hey Spookie! Looks like you and I have something in common. I always thought I looked like the before picture, too! I just keep thinking what a difference twenty pounds can make. I can't wait for the 120 mark...
Athletea 08-15-04, 07:03 PM I don't care how others see me, really! :) I am athletic. I am strong. I am the best me I can be right now and willl soon be even better. I am fab! I am a lean, mean Amazon :queen: ! I like my body!
I would say my ex descibed me the best... Thick. I love that word! I am, I'm thick. I have all the right things in all the right places. Sometimes a little more than I would like but I love me! THICK! I'm beautiful and honest and a wonderful person. I know everyone has different thoughts about "those" words but be true to yourself I guess.
Seaweed 08-21-04, 09:16 PM I have a fabulous shape! It just happens to be round.
lisad00 08-22-04, 01:06 AM I refer to myself as not skinny.
I would lie about it and say I was thin and just hope I would lose the weight before I ever met the other person.
BlueEyez 09-04-04, 10:18 AM I would describe myself as "athletic", my legs, arms and shoulders are very nicely defined from strength training and treadmill workouts.
Kathryn 09-04-04, 12:30 PM I ALWAYS described myself as "curvy" cause I am. :o
Kathryn
Corinna 09-04-04, 06:26 PM I look like a beachball with toes. :tomato:
laracroft 09-08-04, 12:19 PM hmm.. I'm kind of.. straight. I'm not really overweight in any specific area, I'm just not curvey where I should be. My chest goes right into my waist and my waist goes right into my hips.. I don't get then again until my knees!
spookie149 09-08-04, 03:42 PM I think I'm starting to change my view of my body. Now it's pudgy. Getting closer to bikini body though! :)
how would you describe your body to a stranger so as to be most accurate? I'm just trying to get a feel for what terms are out there and what they mean to the smart and lovely Diettalk folks.
Yes, I know i'm overweight for my height. But my body is the average american womans body, according to statistics. I am so tired of all this BMI stuff. I mean most women are between 5'3" and 5'7" and weight ranges from 130 and 160 lbs. So, the stick figure models we see in Victoria's Secret and all these catalogs aren't representative of the real world woman.
So, to answer your question. I'd have to say that my body is beautiful. If I were to describe myself to someone i'd say i'm average size and curvy in the right areas.
A year ago round would have been a very accurate description.
Followed by squat. :D
Now Im going with Fabulous even if it's only Fabulous to me lol

Kathryn 09-13-04, 10:10 AM I love all these positive comments and ways to describe our bodies!
To the original poster, if you're going into online dating sites, the last thing you want is to misrepresent yourself because then you are setting yourself up for disappointment. Everyone has a preference whether tall, skinny, short, squat, whatever. Some people like light hair, some dark. Some prefer freckles. The point is, why would you want to meet someone who has a preference for a different body type anyway? I know I wouldn't.
So if you're curvy, say so. Lots of people prefer curvy. If you are heavy, and working to lose it, say so. Real people with real hearts are okay with that too. I'd want to weed out anyone who was so focused on the outward apperance that they weren't even interested in finding out who's inside anyway. Even the most beautiful people simply do not look the same after 40 years.

tummyflab 09-13-04, 06:17 PM :( The chubby girl in the mirror can be my worst critic

CrimsonMoon 09-15-04, 09:03 PM Super-hot-to-be!

Hmm How Would I descibe myself. hmmmmmmmmmm This stumps me... I know...
CUSHIONY!!! :D
 me too! cushiony, that's right...
i more or less consider myself fat. i know it's a word that one isn't supposed to use to describe anyone, including themselves, especially when on a diet. i've never given "fat" a negative connatation, it's just what i am. i'm happy with who i am as a person and now it's just a matter of making some (major) improvements!

geolokim 09-22-04, 05:56 PM I'm solid. :o
ashlenosu 09-27-04, 03:40 AM beefy.
spookie149 09-27-04, 08:47 PM I'd say right now I'm average. :) Which makes me happy.
deliciousivy 09-28-04, 09:38 AM I would say that I'm CHUNKY. To me people get the wrong idea if I were to say I'm voluptous (sp?), or thick. People tend to think of big booty girls with big boobs...When filling out those dating forms online, i always say a few extra pounds.
Ivy
ashlenosu 09-28-04, 12:47 PM Chunky is a perfect describer. I use that one a lot. :D
socalleslie 10-11-04, 12:07 AM Hello--
I have enjoyed reading your various descriptions.
These days I feel uncomfortable in my skin. I don't know how else to describe it.
If I were to "advertise" myself online (I've done that -- not going there anymore :) --I would say I am curvaceous. I just happen to have some bigger curves in places I don't like...like my stomach, butt, chin. Anyway, I'm trying to get to the place where I don't define myself by what I see in the mirror, which is presently something I can't stand. :protest:
