Hi Divinefavor,
Welcome to DT!!!!!
That must have been very hard to hear especially from your grandmother. Actually that is hard to hear form anyone. Does that mean that you are wanting to change how you look for yourself or for yor grandmother? That is very important. If you are wanting to chnage for your grandmother then it may not happen. However if you want to change for you it will happen.
Of course I am assuming you are at DT to lose weight and have support doing so. If that is the case please look around and check out the forums and find the program or diet that suits you. Sometimes just healthy eating is the way to go and cut out junk food.
If I can help an any way please let me know.
Hugs,
Lizzie

Hello,
WELCOME TO DIETTALK AND TO THE JOURNAL FORUMS ... :welcome:
I think you are a very intuitive young woman ... because you will be losing weight at the best possible time ... NOW ...
Whatever lifestyle program ( I despise the term DIET .. because in my opinion it is a NEGATIVE) you choose to SUCCEED ... make sure it is something that you CAN LIVE WITH FOR THE REMAINDER OF YOUR LIFE .... IMO our weight loss journey isn't a short term process ....
I have been here a member of DT since October 30, 2001 ... I am 61 years of age and I AM STILL LEARNING ABOUT THE CHANGES I NEED TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF MY LIFE ....
Make it a great day ... Always, Monica

Hi, Divinefavor!!! Some of the comments people make about weight really are hurtful, especially when it comes from people we love. Sometimes people just don't understand and we wish they would, but in the end it doesn't matter because you've already decided what YOU want to do FOR YOU! :) I know you'll succeed (I have a crystal ball) ... it does take a lot of determination and a lot of time, but you can do it and you'll feel great ... not necessarily because you'll be smaller and healthier but because you've made a decision, set a goal, stuck to it and reached it. That's a very wonderful thing to do. Good job on thinking out your reaction to the hurtful comment and making your own decision for change. Enjoy your journey.

Hi Divinefavor
I'm sorry, too, that you have been hurt by comments about your weight. I think we all have...people can be so thoughtless..I never get used to it. Diet talk is a great place to be when you are serious about making life style changes. Monica makes a good point "because you will be losing weight at the best possible time ... NOW ...".
I was a 'some day' dreamer, thinking that I would start tomorrow...Until I realized that was a good excuse to over indulge today...and tomorrow never came. Now I am on my way to change my life style again. I succeeded twice before in loosing a lot of weight. I have lost about 20 this time and have at least 60 to go. It isn't easy, and some days it is down right HARD, but the end results (physical and emotional) are sure worth it.

Hi Divine,
we relocated to Georgia 11 yrs ago, we love it here. The mild winters are heaven! I battled 20 pds all my childhood, at age 18 that would climb to 30 and i would get it back down. Then in my late twenties it went to 40 pds and then just up and up till i hit 212 pds at 40 yrs of age. I too had family members say things and i know how it hurts. For me i had never been as heavy as i was at the end, and my body could not handle the weight, i felt so bad it scared me into doing something about it. For me that meant joining a weight loss class( i needed the input of class and being accountable every week for weigh in, plus this class also taught us HOW TO CHANGE OUR FOOD/LIFESTYLE! I started walking just two homes from mine(i would do this three times a day) i could go no farther than that, i went on 1400 cals a day( i weighed and measured out my food, i also wrote down what i ate, a food journal) i wrote down my exercise too and tallied my exercise calories i worked off. I worked every week at adding distance and walking speed, eventually i worked up to many miles a day. It is amazing how the body responds, thats what inspired me onward, i could tell the difference in my stamina, because before thats what scared me so badly, at your age you might not feel that yet. It is an adjustment, but you can do this and you and you children will benefit from this, because they will have an active involved Mom and a wonderful role model. I wish you only success.........

Hi divinefavor:wave:
Welcome to diettalk:) You will find most on here very supportive of your journey.
Walking is a great way to take off the pounds you want. It was the biggest and probably single most thing I did in order to lose the weight I wanted.
I wish you every success you desire and look forward to watching your progress.
