Hi everyone, I post daily in the Calorie Counters section of Diettalk, but I thought I'd start writing down what I'm eating daily in a Journal to keep me on track.

I am to eat 1,300 a day (averaged across the week). But just to mix it up slightly, I will eat 1,200 one day 1,400 the next.

Today:

- Slice of ham (40)
- Pineapple (50)
- 2 slices lf cheese (80)
- Small boiled potato (110)
- Broccoli/ carrot (100)

Hey ToningUp! Good job with the eating & exercising. I have also noticed the difference a good breakfast can make as far as exercising is concerned! I usually eat eggs in the morning, like an omelet, or scrambled eggs, and since they are loaded w/ protein, they give me lots of energy. I don't know how they would measure up with your cal. count. But, you could always look them up if you like eggs. Good luck and keep up all the good work!!!! :D

Hi Rebekah,

Thanks for stopping by! I'm definitely going to try the eggs for breakfast idea (I loooove scrambled eggs!). I ate 200cal of carbs 10 minutes before hitting the gym today, and felt like Bananaman would after eating a banana (superhumanly strong & energetic- sorry for the corny (British?) analogy, but I love that cartoon).

The moral of the story is, I definitely need to start eating more in the mornings!

Today:

Bretzel (200cal)
Corn chips (150 cal)
Samosas/ vegetable spring rolls (660 cal)
Lettuce/ sweet chilli/ soy (200 cal)

TOTAL: 1210 cal

Hey! Your meals sound delicious, and I was wondering... Have you had good success with counting calories? I am looking around at different diet approaches, I was basically just doing "heathly eating" but I find myself saying one thing is "healthy" when it really isn't. Thanks so much, and keep up the great work!!

Hi Rebekah,

Thanks for stopping by. I left you a message in the Calorie Counting section of these boards, but I'll say it again here.... I love Calorie Counting! Looking at the nutritional content of a food really helps you with a diet- before I started, I would have said "potatos are really bad" (when they're only 75 cal/ 100g raw- which is good since I love them!), or "bananas are good" (when they're 95 cal/ 100g)!!

So you just don't know until you read the label/ do some research ("Calories in a X" in google always finds the answers for me!)

I too am training for 1-2 hours a day trying to get fit, I find 1200-1400 per day keeps me from feeling too hungry/ enables me to do that much exercise. Hope this all helps.

TODAY

Hamburger (meat only) 280
Rolos 200
Mozzarella 195
Large tomato 50
Balsamic vinegar 50
LF potato chips 400 (will try to not eat them tomorrow, and have fruit instead!)
M&Ms (evil) 150

TOTAL: 1325

Not the best choices, but acceptable calories wise- will try to do better tomorrow!

Were those M&Ms for dinner??? LOL. Ok so going to step up on the soap box, but only for a second Anna. You are doing a great job, you have lost an amazing amount of weight. It wont always be easy, and its normal to not lose. Eating 770 calories in a day really isnt enough, especually when 150 of that comes from M&Ms. There is not all the nutrients you need in the food you ate today. Our bodies go through plateus as it trys to figure out where the normal weight is going to be. It will go away, but dont give yourself an eating disorder worrying about it. Just keep up the great work!

Hi Elsie!

Thanks again for your support. I understand that you freaked when you read my crazily low intake the other day (who wouldn't!) but don't worry, I don't plan on eating any less than 1000 again any time soon. I'm just experimenting with ways to end plateaus (for future reference- I'm sure they'll occur again lol). I though one day of significantly UNDER, followed by a day OVER might do it (read an article where a dietitian suggested that often works). Time will tell!

1,300 yesterday, no gym

A late start today- really need to have a relaxing weekend so I can get out of bed early all next week (holidays coming, lots to do).

Calories today so far = 600

I am going out for dinner tonight (Italian). I will either eat half of a pizza (they are the thinnest crust pizzas in the world, and not at all oily), or pasta with a simple tomato sauce, or a salad.

1/2 a pizza I'm guessing will be between 400 and 800, same for the pasta, a salad (without oil) most likely much lower. Will see how I go, and post back here later.

Hello ladies,

Thanks for stopping by again :) With dramas elsewhere on the boards today (a group of people from another weightloss site signing up to DT to attack my & others' diets), I almost forgot to post here, and ended up overshooting my daily goal due to the stress of it all (being told you're under-eating a hundred times makes it harder to say no to that fantastic tasting Christmas gingerbread!). So now I have to curb my consumption of more healthier dinner items I had planned.... grrrr

Today,

Muesli bar 95
2 bread rolls 300
Tomato, basil, LF cream cheese 130
Plate of sliced up vegies 100
Bretzel 220
125g gingerbread 500

I'm almost scared to post that I overate, scared it will be read and touted a GOOD thing by trolls claiming that all Calorie Counters eating under 1800 a day are starving themselves. Isn't that terrible?

Hi Toningup.
i read the thread you started in the SOS forum and i am very sorry that people have joined DT specifically to ridicule and chastise you..Diettalk has always been a supportive place and i can truly say in 7 years of coming here i havent seen this "trolling" happen more than once before.
i have always been a firm believer in each person knowing what is best for them.what works for one person doesnt always work for another..i dont believe anyone has the right to tell someone else what they can or cannot do.
i personally workout at a intense pace...it isnt for everyone and i have had people question me about it..its my business and i am fit and healthy and not sick or becoming anorexic or bulimic..i have maintained my goal weight since 2000.
Congratulations on your success...the strength of character you have shown through this recent posting from troublemakers is admirable!
keep up the good work.

Hi Toning Up!

I know I PMed you, but I just wanted to write again that I didn't mean to fuel the fire in the SOS forum. I just kind of got upset that they wouldn't state their opinion and just let that be the end of it. But I guess sometimes people are like that.

Anyway, congrats again on the weight loss! You are really doing great!

Bell- thankyou so much for your kind words (I'm an Aussie too, but in Europe. I'd much rather your weather to mine LOL). You are a true success story :)

Buckeye, stop apologising- I really appreciated being stood up for (that's why I posted in the SOS forum to begin with, I was feeling attacked, awful since DT is usually so supportive)! When people like Judith came in and said "hey, a 1,400 cal diet worked for me, and I have maintained ever since", it was fabulous also. I don't have an eating disorder, damnit, I'm being healthy!!

(I was less impressed with the comments of a certain DT regular telling me off for starting the thread to begin with, and saying we should take our argument/ debate elsewhere. Debate? Excuse me? I was quietly minding my own business, following a diet mandated by my doctor, posting my calories/ food on a supportive board and in my journal, and was suddenly set upon by a number of critical people, and I did the wrong this asking for some support/ advice? Sheesh!! It's not my fault they're crazy and on a campaign, and followed me in there.)

Anyway, I'm moving on and using my journal as my major support mechanism now, Calorie Counters is out for the medium term (just too many critical people from the Shape Boards for it to be at all constructive)

Today:

1/2 STEW, consisting of:

200g turkey breast 210cal
Tin of tomato 80 cal
Broccoli 40
Carrot 30
Med potato 120
Capsicum 30

I haven't been following the drama but just wanted to let you know that I think you are doing great! I agree with bell. It is ultimately up to the individual person as to what diet/exercise regimen works for them. We should not be here to criticize but be support.

Don't worry about the evil food......I've been eating whatever doesn't bite me first lately, but I figure----it only comes once a year, and as long as I don't go CRAZY with it........right?!?!

I'll get back on track after New Year's......
