I've not used a BB before. Over the last few years my weight has gone to 160. Clothes don't fit, can't run like I used to. My plan is to get back to healthy eating habits, lift weights and try to run a 5k by October (just to finish, not for time). I'm hoping to connect with a Diettalker who is in a similar boat. I know I can succeed but it will be easier with someone to check in with! The is my 4th day of my quest and so far, so good.

Hello again Simone, we met the other night on dt and have similar goals. My goal is to run a 5k by my 40th birthday, which will be in December. I also want to lose 10lbs by that date. With the help of DT, healthy eating, and exercise I have lost 25 lbs and it has not returned for over 1 1/2 years. I have also started weight training recently to ward off osteoprosis and improve my muscle tone. Together we can do it Simone, what is that old saying, "slow and steady wins the race" or something like that. You are not alone Simone, your friends are with you.

Sure was glad to hear from you when I logged on this AM! We definitely share similar goals so we will be ideal "buddies." You are an inspiration in your year and a half success. I was there once, I know I can get there again. You can definitely make that 5k for your birthday. Losing the 10# will help. I can't believe what a difference this 25# I am carrying slows me down. I need to dump ballast :)
This AM I walked/ran my old 5k route. Used advice I found on Runnersworld.com for beginners, though I went a bit farther than 30 min. I walked fast for 15, ran (150 beats per minute--I use a pacing tape), then walked fast the rest of the way home. Took about 45 minutes. It was warm/humid but began to rain which kept me cool. Definitely a challenge, but do-able. I'd like to increase my running time by 1-2 minutes per week until I can cover the route running (I only run M-W-Fri. On Tues-Thurs-Sun I lift and do 30 minutes of cardio on treadmill/efx/and recumbant bike. The variety kills the boredom of stationary exercise. There is a 5k roadrace here in October that I sure would like to cover running (not for speed, though)!
I weigh in tomorrow to see my first week's progress. These first weeks are so hard. I don't see much change, but I know it must be happening. I have been so good to log everything I eat and have averaged 1300 calories.
I look forward to keeping in touch. This may be just the boost I need to keep me on track.

Sorry but I'm knew to this running thing, what is a pacing tape? Is it music and if so where can I get one. I have never heard of it before but it sounds like what I need. Right now I'll go check out the runnersworld.com, thanks for the info Simone.

I have used tapes from Sports Music Inc. They have a very wide selection of beats per minute and music styles and can send a catalog. Their # is 1-800-878-4764. I also found a series of walking tapes at my public library and ordered my own. They range from beginner to advanced. The company is Great American Audio, the series is called Fitness Walking. The bad news is that I called them and they have discontinued the series. You might check your local library to see if they can get it for you. Meanwhile, the other company will probably be able to help you since they have so many tapes. I couldn't workout without them! (I tend to go too fast and then get exhausted.) The pacing keeps me honest :)
