Madriver 12-22-04, 03:08 PM :welcome: Hi Smorris!
Congratulations on starting an eating and exercise journal! It really is a great way to keep yourself and your eating/exercise habits in line. I find it soooo helpful in keeping me on target with my goals.
So, how do you feel on this food intake? Are you hungry or satisfied? How many calories are you taking in per day?
As far as suggestions go, right off the bat I can tell you that your fluid intake is GREAT!! Are you satisfied with just an apple for breakfast? Because it might be a better idea to take in a bit more for this meal (it's an important one) and make it more well-balanced. Adding some protein here would be a good idea (egg, egg whites, low-fat cheese, some peanut butter (watch calories here though), sliced turkey, etc.). It will keep you satisfied longer and give you the energy you need to jumpstart your day. A one egg/2 egg white omelet w/chopped fresh veggies and an ounce of low fat cheese, cooked in pam, and 1 slice of whole wheat toast w/some light 0-trans-fat margarine is only about 300 calories, yet it's packed with healthy goodness to give you a good start.
Make sure your diet contains plenty of vegetables and about 2 (or more) servings of fruit per day. Watch snacking on cheese. It's OK but in small doses. It's high in calories and, for some, takes an awful lot before they feel satisfied. Calories can inch up fast in this area, so be mindful of this. Even low-carbers have found that excessive snacking on cheese is a diet buster. Ditto nuts.
If you're at all up to it, would you consider keeping track of your calories in Fitday.com? That way, you can make sure that you are getting the amount of calories you need for both good health and weight loss.
And just remember: YOU CAN DO THIS!!!! YOU CAN SUCCEED!!!!
smorris 12-22-04, 03:26 PM I have now added about 5 grapes and have started on another water.
Thank you, Madriver for your response and your suggestions. Suprising to me an apple is actually enough for breakfast (I eat it around 7am), and I don't start to get hungry again until about 10:30am and if I want to wait for Lunch then I eat a little fruit or cheese (to get my dairy in for the day) and I only eat about half of a serving size which had about 110 calories in it. Then I either eat lunch at 11:00 if I waited on the snack and did not eat it, or I eat lunch at about 12:00 if I ate the snack. I eat another snack like another apple, an orange, tangerine, few pieces of pineapple or something healthy around 3:00/3:30 and a cup of lemon water to clean me out. Dinner usually isn't until about 6:00/6:30. If I am hungry again around 8:00 or 9:00 then I eat some fruit or popcorn to calm my stomach. I try to eat 5 or 6 small meals a day instead of 3 big meals so I stay full and eat less. I am trying to make sure that I do not go very hungry for long and only eat until I am full, so I don't overeat. You may be right though and I was thinking about eating oatmeal in the morning to hold me longer, but I did not want to eat to may calories and end up not loosing any weight.
Again, thank you and I will use your suggestions.

smorris 12-23-04, 04:11 PM Just transfering all the post from General to here also:
Thank you Madriver for your suggestion to go to fitday.com, I really liked it. I think that I will use this everyday to keep up with how many calories and cards I am taking in. It is not totally accurate and I know this, but it is close enough for me to keep up with it.
I also want to thank you for your concern about my not eating as much as I really should, but honestly I am not hungry any more through our the day. I am eating about 5 or 6 small meals a day to keep my energy level as even as possible. When I was eating 3 large meals, I was also eating 2 or three snacks a day and they were not healthy for me usually, now that I am spreading things out I feel better and don't get as hungry as I was before I started this 2 weeks ago.
Again Thank you, I welcome new ideas like www.fitday.com and constructive critism on what I am doing, If you have any other pointers that you think I may be able to use in my hopeful weight loss success, please let me know, I welcome everyone's thoughts and opinions.

Still it wasn't quite enough and I will try to make sure that I am eating more and not starving myself. Again, thank you for your concern, and PLEASE continue letting me know what you think about, how I am doing in my weight loss venture.

So far today, I have had about a cup of purple seedless grapes, and a cup of hot lemon water (no sugar), and I am about to have my first water of the day.
More for today, beginning my 5 16.9oz bottle of water, had subway again and I swear I am not on the Subway diet-just what I have been wanting-I go through swings where I eat one place for a few weeks and get tired of it and stop for a long time. The sandwich was chicken on honey oat, with american cheese, all the toppings except peppers, light spicy mustard, and salt and pepper. I also had an apple for my meal between breakfast and lunch.

ChinaDoll_888 12-30-04, 10:46 PM Hi, do you take the lemon water in the morning? I used to take it first thing in the morning - helps flush out the toxin and really helps weight loss too. Even my friends & family thought I had lost weight. Hope you have a great 2005 year ahead! Where are you moving to?
smorris 01-03-05, 10:56 AM Yes I take the lemon water in the morning, when I can remember it.
I am moving to an apartment about 5 minutes from the house I have lived in most of my life. This is for me the first move though. I was born in Portugal, and when I was almost 2 my parents moved back to the states (not an army brat, my father strange as it may sound was an international art teacher) and I have lived in the same house ever since, at least until last Thursday.
smorris 01-03-05, 11:27 AM Though I am sure that I will leave something out of this, I am going to try and remember everything that I ate this weekend.

Notes:
I will continue to post this every day that I can, I hope that I have remembered everything that I ate this weekend, but allot of this weekend was a big blur because I spent most of it moving and did not have time to try and remember everything that I ate.
I know that as far as quantity goes that I ate less food because it was rarely on the mind and all I wanted to do was get everything put where it belonged.
I did eat a few things, namely the Pizza everyday, that I would not ordinarily be eating, but with people helping, not any or much food in the kitchen, and that being what everyone else wanted, that is what I ate. I did try to limit myself to only 2 pieces, rather than the 4 that I used to eat whenever we ate pizza. Now that we have most everything taken care of, I will be able to eat healthier and not as much fatty foods like pizza.

Well, get the bf's stuff moved in so you can have a life again and do your exercise, lol.

ChinaDoll_888 02-09-05, 04:28 PM Good job on the calories! Your menu looks delicious!
slept all night, for some reason I can't seem to stay awake.
That could be because you aren't getting enough exercise. Energy begets energy. Is there any way you could work a bit more activity into your day?
smorris 02-10-05, 10:11 AM ChinaDoll-88....Thank you and I Love what I am eating. Not only is it better for me than what I was eating before, but it makes me feel better.
roma...I am working on getting to the gym. However that seems to be easier said than done. See I have to work everyday from 8-4, and when I get off I go home and cook dinner or study. Then at 6:00 I have class Monday-Wednesday and that lasts until 8:45 or at least 8:00, and then I have a 30 minute drive home. So by that time I am pooped and all I want to do is get ready for bed. Now the other days of the week I usually plan on going, but then something comes up and I don't manage to get there. Today, I woke up planning to go as soon as I get off work, because I don't think I have anything to do until dinner at 7 with my mother, and that gives me time to go to the gym and come home and take a shower before we have to get there. I do totally agree with energy begets energy, it's just a matter of getting to the point where I can expound some of that energy. Thank you for the advice, and I am trying to get there.

karennd2 02-10-05, 11:25 AM I was looking back through some of your entries and I just wanted to tell you that if you're going to be addicted to some type of candy, then you're pretty lucky it's the valentine's sweethearts; they have no fat and I'm certain there's very few calories in the snack sized bag.
I, on the other hand love chocolate and was really into eating cadbury caramel eggs for awhile. Now, they're back on the shelves and I hope to avoid them completely.
smorris 02-10-05, 07:47 PM Yea, I guess you are right. It's still not that great, but it is certainly better than some things. That and I can only get it at this time of year (though I wish I could get it year around), but I am going to get a whole bunch of it so I don't have cravings for it and replace it with something worse.
As far as you love for Cadbury, you can still have some, just limit it to a little and control yourself. I have learned that the best way to diet is not to deprive yourself from something you love because in the end you only go back to in, but end up eating too much and gaining all the weight you have worked so hard to loose. I don't know that is my theory at least, and it is working for me so far.
Thank you for stopping by, I really enjoyed reading what you had to say, and whether you know it or not it really helped allot because I had some last night and felt sorta guilty about it when I was eating for some reason.

ajmarble 02-15-05, 03:52 PM Hi there smorris...I was reading your journal, and I must say, you are doing an amazing job!! Congratulations on over 20 lbs. lost so far! I have about the same to lose (about 65 lbs) You sound like you are totally on your way to success!! It is such an awesome feeling! Your menus looks great and you are doing a superb job of keeping track of you food. Way to go!! You posted above that you don't deprive yourself of anthing...just limit the quantities. I have to agree with you on that! I am the same way, if I completely get rid of things, it makes me seem to want them that much more, and end up succuming to whatever it is. I just wanted to stop in and say "HI, nice to meet you", I have seen you around for awhile, and read your journal, and thought I would stop in and tell you how wonderful you are doing! Keep going, because, you CAN, and will achieve your goals!! Looking forward to reading about your success! Hugs, AJ
smorris 02-15-05, 07:03 PM AJ, Thank you for stopping by. It really helps allot to know that someone is reading this and that they (you) think that I am doing a good job. The thing that I love most about keeping a journal on this web site is that I feel almost acountable for what I do. Pretty much if I am doing well, then I get praised and that only make me work all the more hard to loose the weight, and if I am not doing so good, someone can come along tell me something else to try that may even be better than what I am doing and in this case it works out because I get the help that I need to do better. Anyway, thank you for stopping by and please stop by more, I love seeing replies and getting pick me up and advise on the best ways to accomplish my goals. Returned Hugs, Sarah

sexybod@140 02-16-05, 10:04 PM Hello,
I saw your pictures in the picture thread. Thought I would stop by your journal. Must say you looked pretty. Sounds like you are doing good. What exercises do you do at home? I have a bunch of different things but it is hard to concentrate and put my focus on one workout.
I will stop by again.... Keep up the positive thinking.. Losing weight is more mental sometimes then physical I think... Take care.
smorris 02-17-05, 03:03 PM roma...thank you and I plan on going tonight too. I don't know for some reason Monday-Wednesday is really hard because of class and homework, but the end of the week is usually great. Keep me on my toes though (LITERALLY). Let me know when I am slacking (I am good at that). Thank you for stopping by and I hope to see you again soon.
sexy....thank you so much, it really make me feel great to hear someone say that I am pretty (especially when I am over weight). As far as working out at home, I don't. I usually just try to go to the gym and get my exercise there. At home the only real exercise I get is all the cleaning, and don't get me wrong, that is a work out in it of itself. You are so right about weight being more mental than physical because you have to want it to make it physical, and you ming has to be set on it to make it happen and get you to the point of pushing yourself for it to happen.
Again, thank you both for stopping by and please continue to, I love it when people let me know how I am doing (good or bad).

I guess I will Start back today, and be back later to log everything. So far I have only had a snack, a little minni twix.
ajmarble 04-09-05, 08:58 PM Hi Sarah...so glad to see you back! You can do this, you have made some great progress thus far, and maintaining instead of gaining...that can be quite an accomplishment in itself. Get back into it Sarah...and there is nowhere to go but up....or I guess I should say down...LOL (in pounds) So...hang in there and keep moving...Looking forward to reading of your future successes! Have a great weekend Sarah....Hugs, AJ
smorris 04-18-05, 10:06 PM Thank you AJ for your support.
I am not making it here for some reason and it is the thing that helped me the most in all of my dieting. So I do not understand why I am being so lazy and leaving this, most important portion of my diet out. I should at least start with today and try to make sure that I at least attempt to do this on a daily basis.

Good news in a week or two we are supposed to be moving into our new and permanent office, where we will have the internet and I can start getting on as much as I did before, helping me loose even more weight. I have really missed this and I can say that coming here is a great motivator when you are on a diet and I can certainly see a change in how I was doing before when I was here and when I was less able to get here.
