OK, This is IT - The official page of Phase #1 Healthy Living Boot Camp :D

Please be sure to read ALL of the information posted below so you are sure to understand what this is all about, as this challenge is a NO Excuses Challenge

I want to explain something - this idea of boot camp is something I was going to start for myself and decided to ask others members here to join me if they wanted to.

These "rules" & guidelines are what I was going to set up for myself - if you do not feel comfortable with what will be asked of you, please don't join, as it will not benefit you. Nothing here is set up to be mean or rough or anything negative, I have tried to explain my reasons behind each guideline - each one is set up to try and help each of us in a postive way.

This will be some what competitive at times, and will be demanding on yourself - hence the name - boot camp. This boot camp will not be easy - it is a NO excuse challenge - This will not be a "walk in the park".

What is Boot Camp you ask?

Well just what you think it is lol - hard work, no excuses ( except for health issues for special challenges - see below ) goals set that you are willing to work VERY hard to met and even try to exceed.

Everyone will set their own goals - but they should not be "easy" to reach - or it wouldn't be a boot camp.

You are on your honor - no cheating lol

What happens if you don't reach you goal - you rephrase over again - in other words you re start your goals and go through that phase of boot camp again.

Please Note* If you get ill or something happens in your life that stops you from finishing your 14 day phase - you still MUST restart your phase again.
This is to help us learn that life happens but we must still strive to reach for our goals and healthy living.

You can set more then one goal for yourself - BUT all posted goals must be met in order for you to graduate from that phase of boot camp.

Each phase of boot camp will last for 14 days.

You can start your boot camp phase at any time but you must follow through on it for 14 days in order to graduate.

I will make online certifications and such that state you graduated from boot camp, phase #1 and so on.
your awards will state you achieved phase 1 of healthy living boot camp and so on.....EVERYONE who completes a phase will get an award as they finish each phase. The award will state what you posted here as your goals, and your start and finish phase dates. I am hoping that seeing your awards in writing will help you to keep striving for your healthy living goals.

Notes*

From time to time I will add specific challenges - like an additional 10 minutes a day of exercise, or NO junk foods of any kind for 1 week etc. I will always post any changes in any phase with at least a 3 day notice, so everyone can check in and read about it. You need to agree with this - knowing when you join, that from time to time I will throw in an additional challenge for you to met. Please be sure to read all posts from me when you check in EACH time, to see if there is an extra challenge for you to met! - Remember - NO excuses !

There will be a special prize for the members who makes it to their goal weight.

The prize will be a Quilo made by - ME :) Yes, I can sew lol What is a quilo? It is a nice cozy blanket that folds up into a pillow. If I do say so myself I think it will make a nice grand prize.

I will think up other challenges and special prizes as we go - this is just your final grand prize.

As you complete a phase - you then move on to the next one. I will create a thread for phase 2, 3 and so as we go.

All members start here at phase 1.

Guidelines:

You must post your goals for each phase - remember each phase is 14 days long.

Your goal can be something "little" or huge - it is up to you - you can post as many goals as you want, BUT remember you have to finish them before you can move on to phase 2.

If you go off track in ANY way from your goals - you MUST restart your phase ( 14 days ) all over...... again everyone is on their honor!

This is not a "punishment" - it is to help you remain on course and think before you react - so you learn you do have choses and control.

You must post at least 2 times during any given phase as to your status.

If you go longer then 1 week of not posting ( vacations, illness and such not counted, PM me ) you will need to re phase. Again this is to help you be accountable to yourself.

If you do not complete phase 1, you are welcome to restart it at ANY time!

Same with Phase 3 and so on - with out losing your stats - with the exception of Phase 2 ( see green text below )

When you complete Phase 1 - you MUST start Phase 2 the very next day! NO off days! so if you finish phase 1 the first time you will finish it January 14th - and you MUST start Phase # 2 on January 15th - if you miss ANY days in between phase 1 & 2, you will need to re do phase 1 over again. Once you have finished Phase #2, you are then allowed any amount of "off" days in between each next phase, with out losing your stats of completed phases.

HOWEVER if you quit or we require you to quit for ANY reason - you are not allowed to re enter a phase for 3 days! What defines quit - you tell me you are "out" or you do not met the guidelines and are required to re phase - these then require a 3 day wait until you can enter a re phase. Why ? we all need to learn you can't start, quit, start, quit etc without any repercussions - this boot camp repercussion is a 3 day wait - life repercussion is your futher from being healthy..... Example: you go longer then 1 week without posting and you are then required to re phase/quit - then you must wait 3 days - this is one example of a quit.

IF you are timed out for 3 days - you are still allowed to post ! You just can not count those 3 days as offical phase days.

NEW Notes! - If you rephase 2 times in any phase - you are allowed to change your goals - BUT you must PM Sue or myself and tell us why your changing them, what changes your making and let us know about the changes before you post/change them. This is not to make Sue or I the "boss" but it is to force each of us to write down why we feel we can not reach our set goals........this in turn will help us understand ourselves better

ANY questions, PM myself or Sue ( icpc ) -
Sue keeps the guidelines updated here (http://www.icarepetcare.com/bccGuidelines.htm)

Please post your phase number somewhere in your post and how many days until you graduate from that phase.

******************************************************

OK so those who dare to enter Healthy Living Boot Camp - Post Your Goals Here ! :coach:

ANY TAKERS !??????

PS: if you have any questions, please send Sue or myself a PM.....

Sue & I need helpers BIG time - please PM us if you can help out with boot camp in any way.....

way to go Jamie for signing up ! :cheer:

I just wanted to come back and make a personal note to each of you who read this thread.

I sure don't have all the answers, and truthfully am a little nervous about this challenge - fear of failure etc.

However I have reached a point in my life where I just MUST take getting healthy serious and make it a TOP priority in my life!

and that is how I came up with this boot camp challenge and why I posted the strict guidelines and the NO excuse policy......

I just don't want anyone to read my first post and think I am a bossy mean know it all lol :tomato:

I know if I stick with this boot camp I will learn many things and improve in many areas of my life and get healthier - but moving out of my "comfort" zone is a might scary ........ so if your feeling this way your not alone. ....

8. I will drink no more than 1 (diet) pop per day.

9. I will post here 2-3 days per week.

10. I will journal daily. (I have a journal that I just started. I write in it every night before bed.......started this on December 22nd). I will add my weight plan to this journal beginning January 1st.

These are my "TOP 10" rules that I will follow for my new lifestyle change.

Good to be here and good luck to everyone.

Beth, if there is anything I can do to help........please, let me know.

Hi, I am new to this forum, actually, I have never posted to any online forum before. However one of my goals this new year was to try to loose weight in some way that is different, not just another diet. One of my ideas was to join an online support group, so here I am. I am thinking about this challange, but to be truthful am feeling nervous (chicken) about taking this plunge!! I take my committments seriously and am not sure I am ready, on the other hand I may never be really ready!!

Hi again everyone - it is now about 13 hours later and I just got home from work........12 hours of cleaning is rough work lol and I am beat..... I-)

Tomorrow was suppose to be my easy day but some things came up today that makes it look like tomorrow will be another longgggggggg day - so sadly I need to go to bed right now. I PROMISE I will post tomorrow night for sure - my apologies.

I want to post something to each of you who are joining us - but right now my brain is too too tired.....

PS: question for all of you - do you want a boot camp chat? It would be a set day at a set time - I know not everyone could come, but I would do my best to set the time to suit as many members as I can - if your not interested or don't feel you have the time, please don't say "yes".......

I never thought I would say this, but a BOOT CAMP is just what I need. I am more scared than anything, not of being embarrased, but of failure to myself. But I look at this as an amazing opportunity to be true to myself. I do deserve this. And I deserve to be totally up front and truthful. These goals will be typed up and posted in my room up @ college, in my car, on my fridge, next to my computer, and heck, maybe even under my pillow. I am on a road to finding my true self. Being 19, I am still searching for who I am. I have given a list of my goals to my parents, to one of my little sisters, and to my boyfriend. These people will be 4 hours away from me through all of this, but with their support, I know I will be able to do this. My boyfriend is also taking part in the challenge, but as an outsider... (he wants to join DT, but at this point in time, I feel the need for privacy on my part!) I'll see you all in 2005. :D

*1* I will: exercise at least 5 days a week

*2* I will: drink at least 8 glasses of water each day of the week

*3* I will: create a meal plan and stick to it!

*4* I will: post everyday in my journal here at DT, and continue to post and support others as well.

*5* I will: run/walk at least 5 miles each week.

*6* I will: not eat fast food with the exception of salads & Subway.

*7* I will: wake up before 10 am each morning, in order to complete all the tasks I have planned for the day. No more sleeping in until 1pm, it puts my habits of healthy eating behind for the day.

*8* I will: not drink more than 3 coffees a week from Starbucks.

*9* I will: find ways to increase my veggie in-take.

*10* I will: get more involved on campus , building friendships and skills can make a world of difference in a persons confidence.

I think a chat is a GREAT IDEA...Don't know what my schedule would be but yeah, and maybe we could just have open times for chats in between...like a boot camp chat room or something...I don't know.
I'm tired, too. Going to bed now...but a chat with all these cool people would be AWESOME!!! :)

Good Morning all ... I had wanted to start right away, but assumed the challenge only started on January 1st. Since a few of you are starting now, I will jump on in and get started with you. Today is the first day toward tomorrrow.

One of the problems I had with excersising is the killer seat on the old stationary bike we have ... I could easily do another 5 or 10 minutes, if it was not hurting my butt so much. We bought my son a new bike for Christmas, so last night I had him take the seat off his old bike, and put it on the excersise bike ... much better! Hope it will allow me to do more than just a few minutes on the bike each day ... want to get to the 30 minute mark within this phase of my training.

I just wanted to let all of you know that I'm on board. I need to think of my goals and then I will post. I got on the scale this morning (first time in awhile) and saw the damn pointer go to 277. O.K., I'm 6-feet tall, but 277 is so unbelievably horrid. And then I found this post. Someone's trying to tell me something. Yes, this WAS supposed to happen. My goals will get posted by the end of the day. I look forward to your support. I need it.

WOW! this is fantastic. Beth you have really struck a chord with everyone. Clearly we all need to kick some butt :whip:

Welcome to everyone who has decided to join us on this journey to whip ourselves into shape

We'll have to chat with Beth about the official start date, but I see no reason why we can't start putting good habits in place now, even tho the official kick off for the challenge is 1 January. I think it best if we start our 14 day challenge together, but if you want a few practise days then go for it. I know I will be working on my food and mood journalling... because it helps me!

Hi Everyone

Finally I have time to respond to each of you as I have wanted to do for a few days now.

Welcome Jamie, Millie, Jessi, Heather, Blondee, Sweetpea, Mikey, Marci, Ikatiana, Kimmysue, Wanttolose, Bonnie, Ginnyg, Virginia, FSUgirl, Eidelweiss, Hnyack, Kim, Beau, Quiltin1 & denisems – I could have swore I seen a Jess not Jessi sign up, but when I looked over the names ( 4 times lol ) I can’t find her – if I over looked any , please accept my apologies and post me, so I can correct it – we are a TEAM and I want each person who is joining us to be recognized.

As of right now we have 22 Healthy Living Boot Camp Members !

Everyone has such GREAT goals ! WE CAN DO THIS!

A few things I need to update you all on and a few responses to some questions posted.

1. sweetpea is correct – if you want to start this challenge before the 1 of Jan, your welcome to do so, BUT it will not count towards your phase1 14 days. The challenge is to be the first to finish phase 3 and get the home made quilo as your award – so everyone must start at the same time. – sorry.

2. What do all of you think about having a assigned support partner? I would draw up names and just pull them out of a cup and sign people together that way. If the numbers are uneven I and a few others who are helping out here will take on an extra member to support. What this would involve is you checking in here at least 2 times a week and posting to your buddy, and if they are having it rough, offering them your 100% support.
If some of you want this and some of you don’t, only those who do names will go into the drawing of support buddies. PLEASE post ASAP if you want to be a support buddy – which will also give you a support buddy.

No worries if you miss this post and want a support buddy, just let me know and I will see to it you get one :)

3. Please see my very first post on page 1 and edited in dark green text for a missed guideline in order for you to move on to phase 2, 3 and a few other guidelines etc.

Please be patient with me - I am "winging" this as we go lol Now doesn't that make you feel good lol ;)

Beth :peace:

I like the idea of support buddies! I do better with one-on-one support, its alot easier to keep up with one person, then 30. Although, I'll still support eveyone anyway I know how.

Beth and All,

Thanks for including me even though my first e-mail was so wimpy!! I can't believe I am so reluctant, but here I go.
I will start the first of Jan, and I would like a buddy.
I will be in Florida from Jan 7-Feb 7 but I will have access to a computer to keep up with you all.
My Goals for phase 1 are

Exercise at least 20 minutes 3 times a week
Drink 32 oz of water a day
Eat 2 fruits a day
Eat 2 veg a day.
Take my Calcium supplement (this is supposed to help with weight loss)

Thanks Beth for all your work and motivating me!!
Virginia

[B] O.K., my fellow "Bootcampers." I have made seven (my lucky number) goals for Phase 1 of the healthy bootcamp. I thought all day about them, in between putting Xmas stuff away and packing up year-end things for Goodwill. I am tired. So, here we go:

1.) I will drink 100 oz. of H20 per day.
2.) I will eat SLOWLY and always leave some food on my plate.
(Not easy for a life-long member of the "clean your plate" club.)
3.) I will go to "Slender Lady" (yes, it's one of those ironically-named gyms) 3 to 5 times per week.
4.) I will do my morning Tae Bo and/or calisthenics (situps, weights, etc.) for 20 mins. 3 to 5 days per week.
5.) I won't give up carbs, but I will cut back on them.
6.) I will eat 3+ servings of fruit and 3+ servings of veggies daily.
7.) At night (may I preface the rest my stating that nighttime snacking is my "ginormous" downfall) I will ONLY eat ONE of the following: A.) a bowl of whole grain cereal with 1% milk
B.) one serving of fruit C.) One sugar-free popsicle or fudgesicle

I do believe my goals are tough yet manageable. I will reach all my goals by Jan. 14, 2005. I will support my fellow "Bootcampers" and I will be honest in my successes and failures. But I will not fail. I will not fail. Now, since all this is out there--BRING IT ON!!!! Love, Denise of So Cal

I understand about the reaching the end of the Phases together. I pretty much figured it would work that way, I just couldn't tell myself I would wait even a few more days. I have been dealing with the crappiness and depression long enough, and the night I joined up happened to be the night I was PO'd at myself long enough and frustrated when I said, man okay I think tomorrow will be the day I start changing my bad habits around and my husband was like, Yeah but you always say that... And I was like, so much for support, I'LL SHOW YOU!

So I guess, in essence, it just adds days to my Phase 1 and that's alright with me... :) I'm doing marvelous thus far and aside from being slightly on edge (kid-related), I'm feeling good knowing I've done only good things for my body today.

Just a quick fly by post ( but be SURE to read my previous post - it is important ) to all of you who are posting your nervous, scared, leary, and even obsessed :)

These can ALL be POSITIVE things during your phase1 of healthy living boot camp !

nervous creates energy - use it for the good - move your body !

scared - OK lets throw some fear factor in here lol - face your fears!

Leary - Oh ye of little faith - you WILL move mountains ! PUSH that mountain !

and obsessed - oh my ! OBSESS AWAY ! obsess with healthy living, eating, exercising, drinking water etc etc - use those obsessions for the positive !

See I told you all NO excuses - I swear I will keep finding ways to turn negatives into positives for ALL of us :D

PS: eidelweiss - I am not sure if this will help you or make sense - but anger, hurt and frustration can also be used in a positive way my friend - YES you WILL show your husband and yourself ! Every time you feel weak or doubt yourself - remember that feeling and it will help to keep you strong. I have been known to get pi**ed and exercise like a manic lol - I am here for you and I understand ! :)

I would love to participate in the buddy part ... but I am not much for chat rooms, so would not likely do that part.

As too starting early, I look at it as a warm up, and a way to not forget what I want to do .. I am terrible for procrastinating. If I do nothing between now and the 1st, I am likely to (a) not participate, having lost momentum and interest, or (b) gain weight or more likely (c) both of the above. So starting now will help guarantee that I will be with you on the 1st.

Actually, Beth, as part of my motivation, I left little notes around the house in places I'd see them when I may get into trouble (ie the kitchen or places i tend to stagnate) that would deliberately make me think of my frustration or how unhappy i am... basically notes to p*** me off! lol. It doesn't work for me to try to be uplifting, haha... degrading works just fine! *sounds so masochistic*

Hi Beth & All Fellow Boot Camp Participants! :D

I am so pumped about this!

I have no problem officially starting with everyone on the 1st. Of course that is fair. It was not my intention to get a leg up on everyone else. I just feel I need to do this for me, on my own until then, for my own good. Like Hnyack, I am afraid that if I do not start now I am afraid I will loose steam, or binge until the start date and end up gaining. I hope that makes sense.

Please count me in for a Boot Camp Buddy. I would love a partner in crime!

2 sleeps till Boot Camp! Woohoo!

Hey Beth! Count me in! Haven't figured out which one of my many challenges I'll tackle first but I'm sure something will become glaringly apparent! Also, I'd be more than happy to help you with some of the background clerical-type work (tracking, making certificates, etc). Let me know how best I can help you. Sue

Okay, you said it had to be a hard one, so here's my one and only goal:

I will not have what I consider a major binge for the next two weeks (this is different than controlled overeating).

Whew, dang that's a scary one. But it's in print now. I'll try my hardest.

I would be willing to be a buddy to anyone who needs one.

Hi Beth and all!

I'd like to join in the Boot Camp too.....now that I'm home two things will change: 1) I have internet access so I can check DT often!! and 2) it will be too easy to fall back into my old bad habits.....it's easier to cook and eat well, and exercise, when I'm in Calgary and far away from my fiancee (who likes to eat big!) and I'm scared that I'll undo all the work I've done.....

So, my goals for the first phase are:
1. Drink 2 liters of water EVERY DAY!
2. Cardio 30 minutes 6 days a week
3. Strength training 1 hour 3 days a week, as soon as school starts on January 5th and I have access to a gym......
4. 2 fruits and 2 veggies EVERY DAY.
5. Start taking my vitamins and supplements every day!

Thanks for starting this Beth!!

And I would like a buddy too...... :)

I edited my post of goals to add the following:

I will:
Record in journal/dietpower log any days when I am emotional eating ... need to see if there is a pattern with triggers or hormones.

I will:
make sure I am taking my medications (diabetes and high blood pressure) each and every day ... why I am so slack on this I do not know, but know I need to start really taking care of myself.

I will:
find more productive ways of relaxing, other than taking a nap, when I am feeling stressed.

Okay I'm in.

Phase 1 starting January 1st.

I will do at 30 min. of exercise 5 days a week.
I will eat 2 veg. a day (I hate vegetables).
I will eat 2 fruit a day.
I will drink 48 oz of water a day.
I will cut out junk food. :c(

I have my nieces wedding in June 25th, that is my motivation.

THIS IS MY YEAR!!!

I need to edit my goals. I decided the best way for me to exercise and push myself, is if I have someone in my face telling me to try harder...SO I joined the ATA Black Belt Academy today :mus: I'm a little scared, I haven't done this stuff since I was like seven, BUT I was in good shape for a seven year old lol. I figure if a martial arts instructor can't give me a good boot in the right direction for exercising, I'm doomed. Plus, I'm so stubborn, the more they yell, the harder I'll try just prove to them that I can. Also, since this is a pretty penny, I won't be able to afford to eat, let alone get fast food. SO, here are my new goals :
1) Drink 3 liters of water a day
2) Go to martial arts class Tues and Thurs; Cardio on my own Mon, Wed and Fri for at least fifteen minutes.
3) Eat more healthy foods; fast food only two days every other weekend. Due to my job, I have to grab breakfast on the run those days.
4) Stop emotional eating! I will not eat because I'm sad or angry or bored.

Can anyone give me some ideas on how to incorporate more veggies into my diet? I suck at it, unless I have salads three times a day. Thanks!

Mikey

Oh, now hwat were your names??? Ok, hold on while I scroll back up to some on this page.. 8-| (sorry I have alot of trouble w/ names) Jersyrose, Heather, Kim, Sue (gotta say Sue, as your stats are the closest to mine, you are a real inspriation!!! You are doing awesome. Shows me that this can be done!! ) And that's just at a quick glance at this page!! I know there are even more outstanding stats on this thread!! to the wonderful job all of you are doing!! You guys are gonna rock this thread!!

Ikatiana - We must have been posting about the same time. I have the same problem w/ veggies. Can't stand them! However I do like carrots, the little baby ones, and celery. So I cut up celery and bring a small container of peanut butter w/ me and eat them that way. And the baby carrots I take to work and either eat plan, just munching on them for my snack or I bring a small container of low fat ranch dressing. When I am being good I do have salad alot, as a way to get my veggies in. But then I do allow myself the ranch dressing I like. I know it is not the healthiest, but I keep to a small portion of it and have learned that if I only use the dressing I don't really like the salad will rot in the fridge cause I won't eat it :o And I have discovered that I have to be able to eat things I like or I go ballistic! hehe Don't know if any of that helps, but wanted to give mho anyway!

I'd like to join in too. Boot camp sounds like just what I need right now. A way to be accountable to more than just my own conscience! :D

My Phase 1 goals are:

1) Take my vitamins and meds every day (this includes one stupid med that has to be taken 3 times a day that I ALWAYS forget)

2) Drink 36oz EXTRA water every day

3) Do DDR for at least 30 minutes every day

4) Stick with my healthy eating plan - no chocolate binges, no Taco Bell, no potato chips

Surely I can do this for 14 days?! :whip: Although, like some of the others, I've already started which just means Phase 1 will be a little longer. I can't tell myself that this doesn't start until the 1st because then I'll just pre-diet binge until then. I know myself too well. :o

Thanks Beth for starting this up. And I understand what you said in your first post about it being a way for you to hold yourself accountable too. That's why I think it sounds like such a good idea for me. All of us are here trying. Makes me feel stronger.

Hello Beth and Fellow Boot-Campers!

Here are my goals for Phase 1:

1. I will not eat candy. (I've loved candy my whole life that's why my screen name is "Sweet" Jean ... lol) In fact, I will not eat cookies or cake or anything that has lots of sugar!

2. I will do strength exercise sessions 4 times a week (once for upper body, once for lower body, and twice for middle body).

3. I will walk outdoors at least 15 minutes 3 times a week.

4. I will follow my old WW diet plan that includes each food group every day and lots of water.

I have been trying to lose weight for the last 20 years ... and all I've done is gain. I have one excuse after another explaining WHY. No more excuses ... this is it.

Love to all from Sweet Jean ... 180/178/130
and ps ... yes, I'd like a buddy. :o

Okay Beth, I too am ready and nervous but I will prevail. You are so mean. No, I know you really are not. Here they are:

Drink 64 oz water each day.
Exercise 20 min. 5 days a week, on purpose (thanks for that one blondee)
Eat 3 veggies a day
Limit my chocolate to 2 WW points a day
Count and write my WW point consumption each day.

This is my goals for Phase 1
I will begin January 1, 2005

Amen ! My He** Week Of Work is OVER !!!!!!!!!!!! :cheer:
We put in like 65 hours this week...........sigh and this body feels it - back to normal now until the next "down" week which is not for 3 months - yippee !

Welcome Sue, Kris, Sweet Jean, Badger, Jerseyrose & Geokim :D

We now have a total of 28 Healthy Living Boot Camp Members!

I am going to draw up the support buddy list tonight ( being as I have the time ) and post it here - as new members join us I will team them up as we go......

Notes* If you have not read the changes in green text in the first post on the first page, do so ASAP Please!

Also I want to share something with each of you - PLEASE go over your goals that you have posted. I want each of you to finish phase 1 the first round. Now this is BOOT CAMP so it is not suppose to be easy BUT make it attainable at the same time - attainable with hard work, but none the less attainable - if you have posted a goal that you do not think is attainable, please change/edit it NOW, as after Jan 1 at midnight your not allowed to change your goals.

As of now your helpers for Phase 1 are: myself, sweetpea, Sue and Judy2 ( who is not a boot camp member, but a great support person and if there are any ties or issues she will be the casting vote, being as she is not in this challenge - I think that is fair ).

I am going to pull buddy names right now and will be back with the list :)

My (Revised) Boot Camp goals (gulp) :whip:

Yeah, yeah. I decided that I had better do it now, as Beth warned, there will be no going back after Jan 1st! Besides, even though this is Boot Camp I sure don’t want it to be just another diet. Been there, done that.
1) Journaling consistently and honestly. (Believe it or not this is the hardest of my 3 goals)
2) Diet: Ensuring I have 3 servings of veggies, 2 servings of fruit, 3 servings of dairy, 2 litres of h2o daily.
3) Activity: Cardio for a min of 20 min, daily.

I thought I already asked but just incase BUDDY PLEASE!!!

Like everyone else, I am really scared about this. But I am going to join boot camp. For phase 1 starting January 1, these are my difficult but attainable goals:

1. I will continue with Curves 3 times a week and do a minimum of 10 minutes of exercise on the other 4 days.

2. I will journal daily.

3. I will eat at least 5 servings of vegetables daily (a serving defined as 1/2 cup cooked or 1 cup raw)

4. I will drink no alcohol before my evening meal ...... and I WILL eat an evening meal every day.

If someone needs a buddy I will volunteer. However, I have a lot going on in January and I might have trouble showing up often enough to give my buddy what she needs.

Ok, now I need to print out these goals for my journal. Good luck everyone!

Hi Beth. Thanks for creating this boot camp, it's just what I need! So count me in!

I plan on challenging myself in 2005 by doing things I know will benefit me in all aspects of my life.

During the 1st 14 day phase of bootcamp I will:

1. Drink at least 64 oz. of water per day.

2. Exercise at least 5 days per week for 45 minutes per session.

3. Stop skipping breakfast.

4. Eat at least 1 piece of fruit and 3 vegetables per day.

5. Take a multivitamin daily.

6. Stop eating and overloading on junk food as soon as I get home from work by replacing this bad habit with a preplanned activity.

I look forward to this challenge and I wish everyone participating good luck in all of their endeavors.

PS I would love to have a support buddy! :D

Boy, this is a long thread. Glad so many people signed up. I'm signing up, but don't worry about the buddy thing, my schedule is so variable I don't know when I'd be able to get in touch with anyone. But i like the group effort and will check in here everyday.

I will be able to do the first two rounds, at the end of January I have to go to Toronto for a weeks conference. So I won't be able to do my third round at the same time as everyone else. But I'm going to have to really make a massive effort for the first two rounds. I've had a really bad Dec and none of my clothes fit. I need to look semi presentable at my conference.

So, I will commit to three balanced meals and one balanced snack a day, and calculate these on fitday. (If I can remember my password!).

Exercise is my downfall, so I really have to work on this. I will commit to five days a week of 30 minutes. This will probably be the Richard Simmons Getting Started video as it seems to be the only thing I can stick with.

Pat

Beth, I need to make an adjustment to my Phase 1 goals. I will do no more than 4 WW points daily chocolate. (I think there are days when only 2 points might be way to low. Heck, there will certainly be days when 4 is way to low but I'm sticking to it).
So to recap:

64 oz water daily.
20 min. exercise 5 days a week
3 veggies daily (1/2 C. cooked or 1 C. raw)
Limit to 4 WW points of chocolate daily
Count and record WW points eaten daily

Goodmorning and Happy New Years Eve in the good ole USA!
I am FINALLY officially enrolling in this bootcamp challenge and I promise to do my best to get here as much as possible.........darn overtime :(

My goals:
I am going to start light due to my tendency to get overwhelmed quickly then the depression sets in.....

1) I WILL check my fasting blood sugar and record in daily in my diabetic health journal!

2) I WILL find time to be outside in the fresh air and exercise for 30 minutes at least 4 times a week....sunshine or not!

3) I WILL drink 64 ounces of water every day.

4) I WILL find a few minutes within each day to read my BIBLE, meditate and pray.

As you can see, I am not only seeking to improve my physical health but my emotional and spiritual health as well.

I would also like a buddy if its not too late.

I am so looking forward to the positive changes I plan to make in 2005. Its gonna be a great year!

Thanks Beth, for this opportunity!

Hi all, count me in on this challenge. Looks like it will be a great group! I would like to be/have a support buddy if one is available. Does that mean we e-mail each other or report here?

My goals for Phase 1 are:

I will do cardio five days a week...at least 30 minutes worth.

I will lift weights at least 3 days/week

I will not weigh myself more than once a week.

If I have sugar, I will stop immediately afterwards, and not binge.

I will nuture myself emotionally, and not put myself down when I make mistakes, or turn to food. Food is not the answer to feeling good.

So glad to be continuing with all my 21 day challenge buddies, and to be meeting everyone else.

Happy new year to you all.

I'm new to dieting, so my goals may not seem too hard, but they will be a change for me.

Phase 1 Goals

#1 Drink at least 64 oz of water a day
#2 Do not exceed my daily calorie intake
#3 Take a walk around my block at least three days per week.

So, there they are for phase 1. I check this board constantly for support. Great team here! :ghug:

How to think slim

by Pete Cohen

Sports psychologist, Pete Cohen, of the Lighten Up slimming programme explains how losing weight could be all in the mind. People often ask me why I run a slimming programme when I’ve never had a weight problem. My answer is that I know how to be slim without subscribing to a popular diet and I can teach you how to be slim too.

When I first started working as a personal trainer 12 years ago, I noticed that a lot of my clients didn’t care very much about being fit and healthy and they certainly weren’t exercising for fun. All they wanted to do was lose weight. I’d start by advertisement designing the perfect exercise programme for them and, when they failed to stick to it, I’d turn my attention to nutrition and give them diet sheets. Of course, they didn’t stick to those either and that was when I realised that the answer must be somewhere else.

I began to study the habits of all the slim and healthy people I knew. After all, if you want to find out how to do something it’s best to learn from people who do it best.

In my opinion dieting doesn’t work. All it does is make you more anxious about food and disrupt your metabolism. So, let’s assume that you’re ready to suspend your belief in dieting for a while and think like a slim person. How do you go about it?

1. Change your focus
The most important thing of all – and it’s something that slim people take for granted – is belief in yourself as a slim person. If you think of yourself as overweight you’ll find it difficult to lose weight and keep it off. We all live up to our self-images. When I ask a group of people on the first week of the Lighten Up course what it is that they want, they usually say something like, ‘I want to lose weight.’
When they say that, I know they are actually picturing the weight they want to lose, right there and then. They are seeing the thighs or the beer belly or the bum or whichever bit of them they like the least – and what you see tends to be what you get. What they should be focusing on is how they actually want to look, rather than the weight they want to lose. Slim people have a much better self-image and getting slimmer involves having a more positive picture of yourself. If you imagine yourself looking gorgeous in a bathing suit, you’re much more likely to behave like that person. It will encourage you to stop overeating or eating unhealthy foods in much the same way as an inspirational photograph on the fridge door might stop you from snacking.

2. Understand your hunger
Slim people eat based on how hungry they are and when lunch time or tea time or dinner time comes around they don’t just fill up their plate because the food is there. Subconsciously, they judge how hungry they are before they start eating. Similarly, if they feel full during a meal they stop eating.
The next time hunger pangs strike, imagine you have a scale in your mind from one to ten. One means you’re not hungry, ten means you’re starving. Check where you are on that scale before you put anything into your mouth. Only eat if you’re registering six or above – but don’t let yourself get up to nine or ten because then you’ll be so hungry that you might risk overeating. You can also use the scale to judge how full you’re getting.

3. Think about what you eat
Now imagine you’ve registered above six on the hunger scale and you’re ready to eat. Don’t just stuff the nearest hamburger into your mouth. Stop and ask yourself how the food you want to eat will make you feel half an hour or so after you’ve eaten it. Will it give you energy or will it make you feel heavy and sluggish? Think about a couple of different things you might eat, how they’d make you feel, what they’d smell and taste like, then make your choice.

Well, I am READY! I practiced in bits the last few days: went to the gym, drank my 100 oz. of H2O, ate slowly, etc. It wasn't so horrible. Happy New Year to you all!

Hi Beth :D , I think I am the "missing Jess" that you referred to in an earlier post. I signed up, but did not post goals as I really wanted to be sure that I was ready to commit!!! I AM READY!!!!

Phase One Goals:

1) Exercise min 60 min 5 days/week...no excuses!!!(I work 3 to 4 12hour night shifts/week and use this as an exuse to not go to the gym....NO MORE!!!!)

2) Log my food in nutridiary.com everday...no excuses!!!! (this will be from midnight to midnight d/t to night shifts X-(

3) Min 2 servings of fruit and 4 servings veg/day...no excuses!!!!

4) Min 64oz H2O every day...no excuses!!!

5) Weigh myself once/week (I am a compulsive weigher, and get easily discouraged with the daily fluctuations...so NO MORE

Thank you Beth for this motivational challenge :D

Phase one begins Jan 1/05 at midnight

I'm pumped up for phase 1!! :D

ok, i'm a bit late, as usual, but i'm here and ready to jump on the bandwagon. i'm definitely in need of some motivation (and someone to push me onto the treadmill), hopefully this will do me good.

-- phase 1 goals --

1) cardio, 4 days a week, 20 minute minimum. with a treadmill sitting just a few yards away from me, there is no excuse for not getting my cardio in - period. 4 days a week allows me two or three grace days during the week if i need to seriously cram for a test or spend 4 hours on a last minute project (which is more often that not.) hopefully i can get back on track with exercise (i once did 45 minutes of cardio every day in the summer - man! - that is why the pounds flew off) and increase my cardio in the next phases.

2) weight training, 3 days a week, 20 minute minimum. again, with weights sitting just upstairs, there is no excuse for not doing it. i bought those weights for a reason! if i weight train on my two "off" days from cardio, and on a saturday or sunday do both cardio and weight training, that's something i can fit into my schedule.

3) i need to incorporate more water into my diet, i want to start with drinking at least 50 oz. of water a day. i will make sure to have a water bottle at school so it's attainable. 50 oz. is only about two or three bottles, that should be something i can handle and (hopefully) increase in the future.

4) at school, i will have a sub (wheat, no mayo) or a salad for lunch at least 3 times a week, with 2 days to eat whatever i want. there was once a point when i ate subs exclusively and i know the fact that i now have cheeseburgers, etc. for lunch is inhibiting my weight loss. regardless of how long the sub line is, and how short the cheeseburger and nacho line may be, i will have a sub or salad 3 times a week.

5) visit diettalk more often. dt provides me with the motivation and the discipline to stick with my goals, it's how i managed to do cardio every day during the summer and find an eating plan that worked for me. while i don't have as much free time anymore, i want to stop in at dt at least once a day to remind myself of my goals and what i'm trying to accomplish, even if only for a few minutes.

thanks beth, good luck everyone! let's just hope i won't be restarting "phase 1" repeatedly for the next 6 months. :D

Hi everyone. Beth is enjoying the evening with her grandkids tonight and asked me to come on at midnight to post the official start of the Healthy Living Boot Camp Challenge. But, since midnight might occur at different times for different people, I thought I’d welcome you all aboard now. So…. A T T E N T I O N: Boot camp starts at midnight your time!

You guys have really come up with some good goals and I wish you all the very best of success on meeting them by the 14th. This is going to be tough but with commitment and dedication, we CAN do it and we CAN stick with it. WE CAN DO THIS TOGETHER. Post often, we’re here to support each other though thick and thin.

Also, you might want to take a minute to go back to the first couple posts on this thread to review the guidelines (remember, you can only edit your goals until midnight your time). I’m currently working on a centralized chart where everyone can go to easily track their progress. I’ll post it when it’s done.

Best of success to everyone! Sue

Healthy Living Boot Camp Challenge Guidelines and Progress Chart

As a reference tool, I have made a central location on my personal website where people can go to review the guidelines, see who their buddy is, and track their progress. Hopefully, this will be easier than having to scroll through the ever-expanding number of pages on the thread to find the guts of this challenge. I will review the posts daily and make updates to the info as things change. If I happen to miss something, please feel free to PM me, post in my journal, or email sjones1@icarepetcare.com. The links will be included on my signature lines so it should be easy enough to find as I'm on here all the time.

DAY 1
is almost over here... and so far I'm on target. I just have to get to bed in the next 2.5 hours and I've done my tasks

It wasn't an entirely easy day. I went out for lunch and got fed roast chicken and veges. Everything was delicious but covered in fat. they poured fat all over the chicken and the veges and i could really taste it. felt quite queasy after but at least there were veges even if none of them were green!

13 days to go and feeling excited about this challenge :jn

End of first day for me. Stayed right on goal. Went to the gym, worked out, and DID NOT LOOK AT A SCALE!!! Tempting though it was. I am going to wait until Tuesday, when I meet with the trainer. Did 30 minutes of cardio--25 on the treadmill and 5 on the stairmaster. Also did bicep and tricep lifting :lift: . Gave myself $1.50 in the "kitty" for a perfect day, and now I am going to put my retainers in so I can't be tempted by anything. :D Also going to make my lunches for the rest of the week so I know exactly what I will be eating.

Had a Morningstar blackbean burger on Ezekial Bread with salad for dinner...my daughter had recommended them and they are really good for a quick and easy meal.

Hope everyone else had a great day. Tomorrow, day 2! Will be a challenge as I'm going on a winter picnic hike with a bunch of women to celebrate a friend's birthday. I'm going to bring clementines so I have something legal to nibble on while people are eating illegal desserts.

Well, day 1 is here (just beginning for some and almost over for others). It's an exciting start. I wish you all a successful day. We can do anything for only 2 short weeks if we take it one day at a time, heck one minute at a time if necessary. But don't look at it as something we can barely struggle through. Look at it as this is what we WANT to do. Be strong, be confident, stay steady. Conquer!

 Happy 2005 you all! Well, I'm off to a good start in my journey. I'm feeling very "womanly" on the first day of the new year, but it won't be my excuse to eat 5 lbs. of Snickers bars. My nighttime eating will be the true test--my 7th goal is to limit my evening food to cereal, fruit, or a sugar-free popsicle or fudgesicle. Boy, that will be my toughest one. If I can get through 2 weeks of that, I can handle anything. Beth, thanks for being my buddy. You are already an inspiration. And to my fellow bootcampers, we will do it! We've got each other. Enjoy Day#1.

Hi Sweet Jean. I got your PM but for some reason I’m not able to PM anyone back (probably overload from everyone PMing everyone, which I’m thankful for). Really good for you on resisting the temptations. You’re absolutely right, it is sometimes difficult to do the “right” things every day, this challenge will help us to do those things. It will probably turn into a love-hate thing (having to do things good) so we (me too for sure) have to get into the right mindset. We don’t HAVE to do these things, we WANT to do them, that’s why we signed up, that’s why we’re trying to get healthy and lose weight. You’re doing excellent so far, keep up the good work! Good luck, be strong, and continue to make good choices.

Hello fellow boot camp recruits:wave:
My first day in boot camp was a success!
My blood sugar this morning: 154......not bad considering all the junk I ate last night.
My water intake: 74 ounces....this was the hardest goal to meet today.....
My outdoor exercise: 40 minute walk in the foggiest, dampest weather I have been out walking in yet. Normally, I would have just stayed indoors and vegged out on the couch on a day like this. But it felt wonderful walking!
My daily devotions: Read 4 chapters in the book of Genesis...starting a Bible study/devotions book today.

1 day down and 13 to go.....we can be strong and successful!

Thanks Beth for this great challenge. I am already thinking of goals for the next phase when I AM SUCCESSFUL with phase one.

Blessings in 05:spring:

Millie and Vicki, you're doing great!

Here's to hoping Denise doesn't eat 5 pounds of Snickers!

Flutterbye and Sunny, welcome! Your goals are added to the progress chart.

How did your cardio go, Geolokim?

Sumday, Mikey, and Kris, your posts were inspiring to me (and I’m sure to many others). Thanks!

Good idea, Bonnie, about checking off your goals on your chart each day.

I think everyone has been buddied up. If I overlooked anyone or made a mistake, or if anyone at any time wants to have a buddy, please post to the BCC Buddy thread or PM me.

To anyone who may not have made their goals today, it's okay. Regroup and restart fresh tomorrow (or right now), but let us know so we can change your start dates.

Hi Virginia. Good for you for staying within your goals! I doubt if you have a lot of sweets lying around normally, but it made me think that we should keep a mental note during this phase of the areas that give us particular trouble and think about keeping or adding those on as goals at Phase 2 (or even at Phase 1 if we end up having to rephase). Also, if some of our goals have been easy to reach every day, then we know we can take that off our goal list because we've got a handle on that particular issue. As we conquer each issue and commit to keeping it under control for life, then we can go on and conquer the next. Just thinking out loud.

Hi everybody!

I'm really excited about this challenge.....with all the changes (starting school, moving 1400 kms, being reunited with my fiancee etc) I haven't exercised or eaten well at all for the past week.....BUT I've lost 3 pounds somehow. I need this challenge to help keep me on track!! And so far today I've kept with my goals......all except my cardio, which I'll get in later this afternoon.

HAPPY NEW YEAR and we can all do this!!! :)

Hi everyone!

Okay, here are my goals for boot camp:

Drink water - 64 oz/ day Yuck!!!

exercise - at least 30 minutes every day

sit-ups - 50 per day

food - less than 1300 calories per day

support - to journal every day

I have to laugh because the goals you are looking at are not my original goals. My original goals were much much easier. But this is boot camp. And to jump into this routine is going to be painful. I've done a similar routine, but it took me several months to get to this point. This time I'm jumping into the ice cold water all at once. May the Lord give me strength because I will need it!!!!! If I can tackle this for 2 weeks it will be a major accomplishment!!!!!

Good Luck to all!!!

Hi all fellow Boot Campers. I'm really excited about this. I actually don't feel alone with my weight problem anymore. I've been reading everyone's posts and I'm so happy that we are all starting on a positive note. I remember watching a Dr. Phil show about weight loss one day. He randomly picked 6 people out of the audience who were overweight and asked them what the "reason" was behind their weight gain over the past years. They all spouted off a different reason, and each one I could apply to my own life. One said that her metabolism had slowed down since she turned 30. Another said that his job was so demanding and he didn't have time or energy during the day to exercise. Another said that she was so busy during the day raising her young children that she barely ate anything and then at night she was exhausted and would eat a huge meal and then go to bed. Anyway, you can see where this is going. After all 6 people spounted off their thoughts on the matter Dr. Phil told them they were all wrong. Those weren't REASONS for their weight gain. Those were EXCUSES. The REASON they had gained weight was because they had ALLOWED it to happen and the only way they would ever take off the weight was if they realized that only they could control their destiny. He looked at the lady who said her metabolism had slowed down and he asked her why, if she knew it slowed down, why was she still sholvelling the same amount of food in her mouth that she did when she was a teenager? He bashed each person's excuse, embarassing them and making them feel like they were two inches tall. That's how I've felt lately. I'm embarassed about my wieght problem. I feel like everyone looks at me like I'm not in control of my life.
So, today is the day I start taking control. This year I turn 40 in July and I'm not going to be "fat, frumpy and forty". I'm going to be "happy, healthy, and hot". We are not alone. THIS IS ONE TIME I WILL BE PROUD TO BE CALLED "A LOSER". Together, we can all be losers!!!!!

:welcome: all!

Sumday! Have to say your post touched a cord in me. Sounds alot like me. I feel so much better when I am here and reading the post. Let's me know that my feelings are the same as others, I am not alone in this battle or in the way I feel. There are times when I am down that I have forced myself to get on here and then I just read people's journals, post, etc. and that really helps to remind me of those things and that i can go on. When I am doing that I also look at people's stats because those can be a HUGE motivation. I mean when I see that someone lost 100lbs, I'm kinda like "hey it can be done...maybe I can do this" ya know!

It goes on to explain that each of us must forgive ourselves for yesterday (possibly for not taking care of ourselves, not working our weight program) and start a new today. Well, fellow boot campers, I thought it fit us too.

Happy New Year everyone.

Thanks to everyone who is posting here and especially to the people who are working so hard to organize and run the boot camp! Your support is so helpful!
I'm making a chart for my goals where I can check them off every day as I reach them. I think it will remind me and help keep me accountable.
Good luck to everyone! Happy New Year!

DAY 2

I'm on target but it was a struggle. Really wanted to bake. Luckily I made sure I didn't buy the ingredients so that stopped me in my tracks!

Have used up one of my late nites already so will find it hard to meet that part of the challenge but i will have to be strong... i'm sure my whole day will go better and i will have more energy if i get to bed earlier.

12 Days to go...

Sweetpea..hang tough........ do this ONE day at a time!
My day one stats are on page 11........I had a GOOD day and am on track. I struggled with the exercise part but did squeeze my 15 minutes in! I use a timer and that helps!
Beth..thanks for checking into the tech problem...hope it's a small thing.
ONWARD: to day 2 of Phase one! Whoo-wee! I really enjoyed my day off yesterday. It's back to regular schedule today, but it's a 5 hour one and not overly busy.

Have a blessed day everyone and GREAT JOB on day one!!

Don't think about what you can't have or "have" to do. Think about what you CAN have or "want" to do. Keep the positive thoughts in the forefront and you will reap the rewards. Good luck on Day 2!

Drink at least 64oz of water a day

Refuse to eat biscuits and french fries and starchy fatty foods. *corn*

Shew....okay...well I know it's Jan 2nd, but here it goes.... :D

Hello Everyone

DT had some serious tech problems yesterday and posts got placed way behind or way ahead - it was a mess to say the least - so if you can't find your post from yesterday - go digging - sorry.

The problem is corrected now, however John ( the owner ) can not undo the damage that was done to our posts.......... :(

It is never too late to join us - just read the guidelines and jump in - boot camp will always be an on going challenge :)

:super: job to those of you who made it through day 1 ! I am very proud of you.

Sadly I post I was not one of them..............sigh
I thought my water goals were 20 ozs a day and after midnight I re read it and it is 30 ozs a day.......OOPS!

So today I have to restart phase 1........ NO excuses ! Not for anyone.......RATS! lol but we live and learn.......

I will be back later today to read new posts.

Welcome Hopeful! You have been added and your stats are located on http://www.icarepetcare.com/bccProgressChart.htm

Hi Tryin2lose. Unfortunately, I can't make it so you all can go to the chart and make your own updates, but if you post them here (like you need to rephrase, or you've completed a phrase, or you want to update your goals for the NEXT phase), I will update them on the chart. What you could do, though, if you wanted to check off your goals every day, is print off your goals and put check marks next to them every day you were successful.

Bummer about your water, Beth. I put on the chart that you're rephrasing and your new dates. Thanks for being the first one to say so. Accountability's hard sometimes, but it is helpful in order to stay on track.

Congratulations to everyone who made it through day 1. Sometimes that's the hardest day of all. Today's a new day. Let's make day 2 successful!

Hi Beth and Sue,

I am hanging my head in embarassement... I did not make all of my goals for yeaterday...so restart me please for Jan 2/05 :c(

This accountablity thing is hard!!! But is it GOOD!!! It has not worked in the past to be just accounable to myself, this Boot Camp is going to work for me!!!! It may just take me longer, but I will restart and restart! I just can't believe I missed day one!

I made all my goal except my veggies; I ate only two servings of veggies, rather than four :( I was concious of the fact that I needed to eat them, and kept putting it off...you know I think I thought I was eating more veggies in the past than I actually was? I just looked back at my meals and I've been eating one-two servings/day at most!!!! This is bad!!! So Obviously I have made a good/challenging goal for myself and will just have to learn to plan my meals better :o

So....moving on to...Day one again lol :D

I met my goals for day one. I drank 64 oz of water...wow, is that a lot! I didn't go over my calorie intake, but that's hard at 1200-1300 cal a day. I did it, though! Congrats to everyone that made their goals, and to those who didn't...today is another day. Don't feel bad, you can do it!!! :cheer: :ghug:

Yahoo! I met all my goals yesterday! I felt so good last night after spending 40 minutes on my treadmill (my goal was 30 min) I wanted to tell someone! However, I tried logging on last night, but couldn't get through to the web site.

It's 2:00 pm here in Cincy and I haven't had a drop of water yet - so I've got to get going on that! :water: I will succeed and so will everyone else out there! Go team! :cheer:

:ribbon: Hi Fellow Bootcampers! I made it through day 1. 100 oz. of water for me is fairly easy, given my largeness. I read somewhere that people should drink half of their body weight but in ounces. For example, I weigh 277 so I should drink almost 140 oz. of water. Now doesn't that sound ridiculous? So, if I go by that, 100 oz. doesn't seem so bad. I made my fruit and veggie goals yesterday. I've really been hitting raw spinach for salads. It's really good. I am most proud of my nighttime eating. I only had a bowl of shredded wheat with 1% milk. This article in "Women's World" magazine was about three women who had a bowl of cereal at night. It saved them anywhere between 500-1000 calories a day of mindless late-night eating. Sounds good to me. Day 2 is off to a good start. Beth, enjoy your fresh start today. At least it was only 1 day. It could have been worse. To the rest of the bootcampers, CONGRATULATIONS!
Love, Denise :snow:

Congratulations to everyone that made it through day 1, unfortunately I wasn't one of them. :c( There is still too much junk food in the house and sitting home all day it's just too tempting. I think I even gained a pound. Today was much better, I have kept myself very busy. Tomorrow I go back to work, I drive a schoolbus. Being off for Christmas break has its good points and bad. The bad being I am home all day and I get bored. But, I am determined to do this, so I got up this morning ready to take on the day and it was much better. :D

So restart me on 1/02 and I will take this one day at a time.

Keep up the good work, everyone seems to be doing so well. :cheer:

Hello to all my fellow Boot-Campers ...

Yesterday was a successful day but an Eye-Opener. WRITING my goals and DOING my goals are clearly two different things. Eating right was an effort ... I kept wanting to "nibble" on snack foods that were around. Then I'd stop and realize that I couldn't do that anymore ... keeping my word to myself and my fellow Boot-Campers was more important.

EXERCISE is my real challenge. Starting this habit in my life will not be easy. I forced myself to put on my coat and go out the door to take my 15 minute walk. The first 5 minutes felt more like 5 HOURS!!!!!

Anyway today I will do my strength exercises ... without thinking about it too much ... or else I'll put them off as I usually do. I love this challenge because it will "inspire" me to do what I need to do. I want to lose this weight! I haven't been UNDER 170 in five years and that's way too much weight for my height (5'4" and shrinking).

I'll check in later to see how everyone else is doing. To my buddy Sue ... I got your reply on this thread and I'll write to you later in your journal.

My love to all ... Sweet Jean :o

Congrats to all of those who made it through DAY 1- and to those who didn't quite make it through- CONGRATS for being accountable. We're all winners here (and soon to be losers) I was lucky enough to have my little sister, who's 15, on my back all day. Since I'm home from the holidays, I am sleeping in bed with her, so she saw me join the Bootcamp and was super excited for me. But I think that without her there, I would have done some damage. Hahaha. Today is so far so good. Here in Florida, it is a beautiful day outside, so I'm taking the boat out to enjoy some sun. I hope you all have a great and successful day

I have to admit that I didn't make it through the real day one because I am now SICK! How wonderful. I ate well, though, but my water intake was down a bit and I was unable to exercise...AND this morning I slept in a bit so I missed that goal. I'll see how I'm doing tomorrow, so RePhase for me! ~Heidi

I was just reading through all of the posts and realized maybe it is too late to join the boot camp. I think it is such a great idea though! I actually started my first goals on Dec. 31, so maybe I can still join?? If I can't though that's ok too. :)

I have not had sugar or caffine for almost 3 days now. The headaches are very, very bad, :c( but if I can get through today I think tomorrow will be better. I have hypoglycemia and my body is very messed up right now from all the sugar I have been eating. One I get off sugar and caffine I will try some additional changes for phase two.

I have trouble finding this post. Would someone please tell me which "forum" it is in? I found it this time by another thread that linked to it, but is there a quicker way to find it?

Mikey
01-02-05, 05:31 PM
Welcome Blanche! Seems weird to type your name as that was my mothers given first name and she's been gone 2 1/2 years now! Anyway, I think they said that you could join anytime. Just post your goals and get started. As for finding the thread it is under the challanges forum. Your right, your headaches will get better. I went through the same withdrawl, but mine was just from pop! That's how much dr. pepper I was drinking, sad huh! So now it is only the caffene free ones for me! Keep up the good work!

Sue

Hi Blanche. It's never too late to join. This will be an ongoing challenge, but your two weeks start today and end 1/15. I have added you to the chart (http://www.icarepetcare.com/bccProgressChart.htm). To get to this challenge, go to Forums, scroll down to Challenges (in the Supporting Your Diet section) and click on that, then scroll down to the Healthy Living Boot Camp Challenge thread and click on that. Good luck on the caffeine headaches. Can't remember how many days I heard that it takes the headaches to go away, but don't give in--they will go away!

See, you guys? Now we're more aware of what we're eating, how we're feeling, what we're doing, what temptations are too readily available. We can't change until we know what's going on. That's the first step.

Good for you, Sweet Jean. I'm really impressed with my buddy's dedication!

HI Day 2 so far is a success. I HAD 3 FRUITS AND EXERCISED ON THE TREADMILL FOR 34 MINUTES.

rainer
01-02-05, 06:28 PM
day 1 went surprisingly well. i was able to get in 35 minutes of jogging, and got my 50 oz of water down. i hadn't realized it was the first day of boot camp until i had gone online around 4 pm, and so i was seriously just chugging that water down. i was honestly surprised that exercising came with such ease. i've realized it's a matter of just getting myself onto the treadmill and winning this mental fight i have with myself every time i think about exercising. i just need to do it and get it done with! i can't say i ate all that well yesterday, i went to a friend's party and also had my dad's side of the family over for the holidays. it's ironic that on the first day of boot camp i was hit with so much temptation, junk food everywhere all day long. but today's a new day and even though i'm not as happy with myself as i'd like to be, i stuck with the goals i set for myself. good luck on day 2 everyone.

Fantastic. Nearly everyone has reported in, this thing has a life of it's own... and for those of you that didn't make it, you're only one day behind.

Try to set yourself up for success:
- put your exercise shoes right by your bed so you can jump straight into them in the morning, or schedule a
