Everyone who has ever been successful at weight loss, and offered me advice, has told me to keep a journal. That's about the only thing I haven't done in past wieght loss attempts and I've never been successful at losing the pounds and keeping them off. So, here goes:
Got on the scale this morning to discover that I had gained 4 pounds over Christmas. I'm up to 209. My 5'4" body can not take anymore flab. If I sit for a while my ankles and knees ache when I get up and start to walk. I limp for a couple of minutes at first. As if the weight gain wasn't depressing enough, my brother, (who lives 3000 miles away and I I don't see very often), called me tonight. When I complained that I had gained weight over the holidays he replied that he had as well. He's mortified that his weight (with clothes on) was 210 lbs when he got on the scale today. He's 6'1" tall!!! I WEIGH AS MUCH AS MY BROTHER WHO IS 10 INCHES TALLER THAN ME AND 10 YEARS OLDER!!!!!!! So it's do or die time for me. I have got to shed at least 50 pounds.
Today was a "get organized day". I watched my portion sizes and tried to avoid "bad foods". I drank my 60 oz of water (as painful as that was for me). I made a big pot of cabbage soup. I bought some high fibre cereal and skim milk and stocked up on sugar free gum so I have something to chew when the "urge to splurge" hits.
MY PLAN:
I'm not going to follow a program (at first anyway). I've read a bazillion books, magazines, articles, etc., over the past 5 years and I know what has to be done. Everyone is different and what works for one might not work for me. So, I'm going to do a little of everything for a while until I get my mind wrapped around this and figure out what's best for me. I'm going to do the following:
- DRINK AT LEAST 60 OZ WATER A DAY
- WALK ON MY TREADMILL EVERY DAY
- EAT MORE HIGH FIBRE FOODS / FRUITS AND VEGGIES
- EAT ONE GRAPEFRUIT PER DAY - 1/2 BEFORE LUNCH - 1/2 BEFORE SUPPER
- DRINK ONE CUP OF DECALF GREEN TEA PER DAY
- EAT ONLY HEALTHY CARBS AND NO REFINED SUGARS
- EAT LEAN PROTEIN AND MORE OF IT
- TRY TO STAY POSSITIVE
POSSITIVE ATTITUDES LEAD TO POSSITIVE RESULTS
In the morning I begin to uncover the new me (or the old me).
