patricians2001 01-01-05, 11:40 PM Well first day down for boot camp. My first goal was 30 minutes of exercise. I did a RS video- Getting started. First time I exercised in ages, I feel great about that.
second part of my commitment was to have three balanced meals and two snacks and fiqure it out on fitday. I was a little put out about fitday. When I went back to put my evening meal everything I put in earlier disappeared. i seem to be having some problem with the date on my computer. Hope things work better tomorrow.
As much as I got back into fitday showed;
Cal; 1293
Fat 46 g
Carb 162
Protein, 71 gram
Cals a little low, but I may have missed somethings when I tried to re entry the stuff I had in earlier. Also I can't remember what the count for protein , fat etc should be.
But I met my requirements for boot camp today and hope the technology works better tomorrow.
Edit; went and had some more yogurt and wanted to add sliced almonds but only had walnuts. Then redid fitday and came up with above totals. I love yogurt, but already today I can feel sinuses and ears starting to fill up, so I may have to stop eating it.

patricians2001 01-01-05, 11:43 PM This is so strange, everything is posting in the reverse order than I am doing it. I think it has to do with the date. Did everyone else have Jan 2nd show up before Jan 1 on the site?
Pat
patricians2001 01-02-05, 03:15 AM Well, as to my worst fears, I've gained ten pounds over Dec. So I've joined Beth's boot camp, I need to get as much as possible of this off over Jan.
I'm opening this to post my results according to fitday each day. For the first week I'm trying a plan with a higher carb count than I usually can handle, but the carbs are from yogurt and rye flat bread etc.
I am very carb sensitive but don't like the very low carb diets because I find the food too rich. Unfortunately I only seem to lose on very low carb, but I'll see for a week how it goes.
For the boot camp, I commited to posting three meals and a snack on fitday and also to exercise five days a week.
A happy and successful New Years to all.
Pat
patricians2001 01-02-05, 09:58 PM I hope the date thing is straightened out here and this posts in the right order.
Second day of boot camp. I did the Richard Simmons video again.
i was invited out for brunch but it was fine because my friend was trying to get back on track for WW after the holidays.
So for fitday:
Calories: 1169
fat 73
carbs 85
protein 57.
I'll probably have a bit more yogourt to get the calorie total up. I still don't know how many grams of fat etc I should have. I guess I should go back and check the % that would make more sense.
Breakfast and lunch all packed up for back to work tomorrow. Darn it!
Pat
vickilyn2806 01-03-05, 06:37 AM Hi Pat,
Just found your new journal and wanted to stop in and say hi!
Pretty weird about the date and time thing here over the holidays but hopefully John has worked that bug out!
Good luck with the boot camp! I am there too and I love it. We will be successful!
Blessings:spring:
Vickie:pass:
patricians2001 01-03-05, 11:01 PM Hi Vicki;
Thanks for dropping by. The boot camp is just what I needed to get the year off to a good start. I'm glad you are finding it good too. I hope that you have gotten staightened out with your shifts at work. My daughter is a nurse and had to work all nights over the holidays. She has been very cranky!
Each day when I do my totals on fitday the cals are a little low. So then I go and have some thing extra like yoghurt to bring the total up a bit. I made a Dr Phil recipe for lunches, it's an apricot chicken. I think I'll have a piece of that later because the cals are low again. The fat % looks quite high, but I'm not too concerned because I have almonds each day. I also had roast beef. It was very dry cut but fitday does give a choice of cuts of roast beef. So I don't think the fat % is as high as it shows up.
Totals so far, I'll have a piece of the chicken later.
Calories 1048
Fat 59% carbs 20% Protein 21%
I'll have to go do the RS video before i check into boot camp.
Pat
Hi Pat: I just wanted to wish you a great year for 2005..
In response to your question about %'s for proteins, carbs and fat...I went to Google and keyed in Canada Food guide...I think you might find some answers there..however from what I read about 30% fat 50% carb and 20% protein....it apparently is a very individualistic thing..and as you know all carbs are not created equal...
Hope this is of some help......You could always write to our Personal Dietitian here for her recommendations... I know my dietitian really pushes the fruits and veggies..and I am a diabetic so my carbs are about 55-60 grams each meal..She also highly recommends legumes like chick peas, lentils etc. She also mentions low glycemic carbs which might be of interest to you....
I have fallen off my wagon in the last couple or 3 weeks and am struggling to get back on..
Louise
patricians2001 01-04-05, 10:29 PM Hi Lulu; thanks for dropping by. That's a good idea to go to Google, but I think the numbers you came up with are about right. On fitday my fat % looks a little high, but most of it is from almonds, I have about .25 to.5 of a cup a day and they are supposed to be good for you.. I also like the legumes. One of my favorite meals is a chili from a WW book with kidney beans. I put in the veggie ground instead of hamburger so it is not high in fat. I'm also having salmon with ff cream cheese on wasa bread. Wasa is made from rye not wheat so that is good.
Everyone feel off the wagon for the past three weeks. I read the other day that most people in colder climates gain weight from Oct to Dec every year. then we fight to get it off from Jan to March, then get tired of it. So most people don't take off all they put on earlier and end up starting the cycle again the next year at a higher weight than the year before. This really adds up over the years.
Normally I live in Nova scotia but am in edmonton for a few years. I find it way too cold to do anything outside for these months so I'm forcing myself to do a Richard Simmons video everyday.
I forgot to check the % s on fitday so better go back and check it plus do my video.
Pat
patricians2001 01-04-05, 11:23 PM Did my video
Fitday Cal 1227
fat 67 48%
carbs 96 27%
protein 77 25%
The fat always seems high but it's from the almonds.
Just need to take my vitamins and that's it for day 4 of boot camp.
Pat
patricians2001 01-06-05, 12:59 AM Day five of boot camp
Fitday:
calories 1121
fat 48 39%
carb 99 31%
prot 82 30%
cal have been down most days, so I think I'll try the WW trick and bank the ones I didn't use and have a bigger meal on the weekend.
Did my RS video so goals for day five met.
Pat
patricians2001 01-07-05, 12:16 AM Day 6 of boot camp.
I uped my calories a bit today because I woke up in the night last night because I was hungry.
Calories 1301
Fat 59 gr 41%
carb 127 gr 36%
Protein 74gr 23%
RS Video done
So gaols met for day six.
patricians2001 01-08-05, 12:58 AM Day seven of boot camp
Did my exercise video
Fitday: Cals 1352
fat 93 63%
carbs 78 19%
protein 63 19%
Goals meet; one week down; one to go for end of phase one.
patricians2001 01-09-05, 12:31 AM Day 8 week 2 boot camp
I have lost 4 pounds this week. I hope it doesn't stop there as it usually does.
The weigh in was the best part of the day. Then drove many miles over blustery Canadian prarie to meat with son who ended up being quit irritable. He was stressed becauce he was stopped at a red light and back ended. I don't know why he got himself in such a state when it wasn't his fault. Oh well.
At least i didn't go looking for carbs when I was frustrated.
By fitday cal are down only at 900, so I will go get something else to eat.
Pat
Corinna 01-09-05, 07:58 PM Hi Pat! I like your avatar! :)
Wow! 4 lbs! You go, girl.. :cheer:
Corinna
tmayder 01-09-05, 08:46 PM Hi Pat!
It looks like you are doing a good job to me! I was obsessing over a new diet with many fat grams than I am used to eating and somebody finally told me that as long as I could keep the saturated fats down to 10% or less that I was doing okay. I am finding that this is working very well for me. For carbs, I am still trying to keep them down, but when I do eat them I make sure that they are on the right side of the glycemic lists. Getting the calories just right can be tough for me too, but I think I have finally learned not to obsess about it if I go over by 100... which is better than not eating enough.
Congrats on those 4 pounds!!!!!
Linda
You're doing great, Pat! Congratulations! Sue
patricians2001 01-09-05, 10:50 PM Thanks all for visiting.
Corinna, I had never noticed the avatar had changed until you mentioned it. It is nice isn't it.
Sue, thanks for dropping by, and for all the work you are doing for boot camp.
Linda, I was wondering how you were doing. You always have the same difficulties I have with all this so good to have your imput, I'll have to take note of that fat stuff.
I think This is day 9, seems to be going fast.
Did my exercise video, recorded everything on fitday but I don't think it's right. I went to Smitty's for lunch. They don't list their nutrition info on their web, so I tried to compare it with Wendy's I used their count but I think it's too low.
So total so far is
cal 567 fat 25 gr carbs 54 protein 35
Also I don't think carbs are right either as I didn't eat the croutons. But I'll have to eat something more later.
So day 9 down.
Pat
Your doing :super: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beth :peace:
PS: My daughter and un born grand daughter need on going prayers please.
more information is here (http://diettalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45733)
patricians2001 01-11-05, 01:38 AM Hi Beth;
you could relate to this; my daughter put my RS Getting Started video aside and I couldn't find it. I thought I had to go to the dreaded TTapp! But she came home and got me the Richard simmons one. Saved! I see where the TTapp ones now have a one for people who find the regular one difficult. I may send for that.
Day 10 down.
Did the video
Fitday
Cals 1007
fat 34 32%
Carb 134 49%
Prot. 45 19%
I'll have a snack to bring cals up, but I already had 3 fruit today and I'm out of yogurt.
I'll have to see what else i can come up with.
Pat
Corinna 01-11-05, 10:36 AM It looks like you need more protein, my friend.. (and more calories!!)
Do you like milk? cottage cheese? Gnawing on a chicken breast? Hehehehe
Corinna
lol I STILL have not mastered the TTAP tapes...........lol ;)
Beth :peace:

patricians2001 01-12-05, 02:45 AM Hi all;
Corrina, I usually post here after i finish my planned meals and snack. Then when I see the totals I go and get something to top up the calories. Actually"something" so far has always been low fat yogurt and I stir some berries in. So that helps the calories and the protein.
So far today: Cals 1059
fat 53 59% ( most of this from .3 cup of almonds)
carbs 85 28%
prot. 67 26%
Oh, also did the RS video. Thinking about the TTapp one!
patricians2001 01-12-05, 10:21 PM Bad day because I had a migraine and couldn't go to work. I do have medication that works but still after it kicks in I still feel very weak.
My RS video is actually 40 minutes but I was only able to get through 30 minutes, that's what I committed to for boot camp.
I also can't eat all day, then by evening I'm ravenous for carbs. Today i went on the low carb site and got a low carb receipe for muffins. Iwas not able to figure out fat and protein for them, but they gave calories and carbs.
So with what i know today was 1104 carbs, 38 gms of fat, 75 gms carbs; 82 gms of protein.
So met my goals for boot camp. Calories down, but not a bad day for a migraine day.

tmayder 01-19-05, 02:36 AM Hey Pat, you are really hanging in there and whatever you are doing seems to be working for you! Good on ya! Has it been long enough that you are felling better or more energetic?
Congrats!
Linda
patricians2001 01-20-05, 01:13 AM Thanks linda;
I went to check the cals etc in the fat flush book because I had soup i made from a recipe from their book. I realized that what I am doing is actually pretty much what's in there. I'm not brave enough to add the grain in the form of spelt back in yet.
Today was extremely busy, we finally got back in the school after the flood. Had to gather stuff from where they had us farmed out all over the city. I'm so busy i don't know if I'm more energetic or not! Hardest part of the challenge this week is avoiding the candy dishes. it is like when I first started to lose weight and craved chips. It went on for months, but now i never even think of them.
Katrina went to Jasper skiing today. Not a good plan, the freezing rain hit late afternoon. She finally got home but has been out trying to get the ice off her car for an hour now. i will have to do the same thing in the morning. But i'm hoping for a chinook or something to do it for me. I know chinooks don't get to Edmonton, but I can hope.
Day` 5 phase 2 done
Cals 1050
fat 40
carbs 94 protein 32
protein & cals down again, I'll have to have something else.
RS video done and avoided all candy dishes and other treat traps at all work locations.

JoThrive 01-21-05, 10:41 PM Hi, Pat. You are doing great in avoiding the candy traps. That candy is capable of reaching out and snatching you.
Keep plugging along -
Corinna 01-22-05, 08:53 PM  wtf is spelt?
Corinna
tmayder 01-23-05, 03:28 AM SPELT - Does it taste like it sounds? :O
Pat, I would have stayed in Jasper the day Katrina made that drive. The roads were horrifying!
I am so happy for you for getting past all that candy without a few in your pocket! I know how hard that must be!
Linda
patricians2001 01-23-05, 11:55 PM Hi All; thanks for dropping by. I wrote a big reply yesterday, then the computer froze up and wouldn't post. I guess it wanted to be in sinc with everything else around here
froze!
Linda the candy that got to my pockets were not the ones that were causing the problem! actually I don't think any of them got to my pocket.
You were right about the ride from Jasper, Katrina said she was terrified after Edson. But her skiing companion was a friend from work and he's married. So I'm sure he thought it was not a good idea to have to stay away overnight. But she said she didn't care how it looked because she thought they would never make it. She said their were semis all over in the ditch. The joys of Canadian winters!
I'm reading The Insulin Resistance Book. It is very interesting, but I'm not sure if I can lose weight that way.
Corinna, spelt is an ancient grain. For people who are wheat sensative it is a good substitute as is kamut, another ancient grain. In both Alberta and Nova Scotia I can get spelt and kamut bread at my local bakery. I like the spelt better for bread but love the kamut for pasta.
Phase 2 day 9??? of boot camp done
Did my exercise, recorded at fitday & avoided candy when I went into the office to work this pm

Corinna 01-24-05, 12:37 AM Ancient as in the grain is aged? Hehehe.. I'll take your word for it! I hope it's tasty. :)
Corinna
patricians2001 01-24-05, 10:29 PM Hi Corinna;
Heaven knows where the spelt is coming from. Maybe the ancient tombs. How's the weather there? I'm going to T.O. on saturday, just a quick trip for work.
Did all my goals for boot camp. The cals were really low on fitday so I need to go get something else.
Pat
Hi Pat - you are doing :super:
can spelt be found here in the states?
Beth :peace:
tmayder 01-30-05, 01:39 AM Hi Pat, I hope you are enjoying your trip to Toronto!

patricians2001 02-10-05, 11:24 PM Been back for a week but have been really sick. Good news is that weight didn't go up with travelling as it usually does. But now I'm sick I I feel hungry, but nothing appeals to me to eat. Hope it goes away soon.
Pat
tmayder 02-11-05, 05:42 PM Hi Pat,
I posted earlier but I don't know where it went!
I'm so sorry that you aren't feeling very well. Have you got the flu?
I was wondering, when you say that you can't eat flour products, is it the same thing as Gluten Intolerance?
Hope you get to feeling better soon!
Linda
patricians2001 02-19-05, 02:45 PM Back after being sick and incredible work schedule for past few weeks.
I need to regroup. But first I need to find the postings Linda ( TMayder) and others had about Insulin resistance. Can't for the life of me remember what it was under!
Pat
Pat: Welcome back...I think what you are looking for is under Health & fitness.....then Insulin Resistance ..Sydrome X
Hope this helps...
Louise
patricians2001 02-20-05, 02:39 PM Thanks Louise, that's it. Most of my computer problems are because I haven't scrolled down far enough. Too impatient, that's my dieting problem too-impatience.

penguin 06-15-05, 05:42 PM Hello Pat
Thanks for dropping into my journal and giving me a boost over the weight gain with the exercising! It's so annoying when it happens but I've seen it happen to loads of other people.
I was looking up Novia Scotia on the internet. Stunning landscapes. It looks really beautiful with lots of mountains and sea. It must be great at this time of year but I expect that it's a bit chilly in winter. Average high of -5degreesC in Jan brrrrr!
