The Phase 1 thread will soon be closed and all BC members will now come here to post, no matter what phase you're in (other thread was getting too big, lol). New threads will start every two weeks.

Remember that you need to post to this thread twice in a two-week period.

Also remember that there are no off days between Phase 1 and Phase 2. So when you finish one phase, jump right into the next one. If you need a break for a day or two, you will be able to get one between Phrase 2 and Phrase 3.

These last two weeks (for those who started at the beginning) have been tough at times times, but also VERY SUCCESSFUL! Weight has been lost, better health has been gained, friendships made, success attained, important things learned. On the day that you meet your goal, please go to "Phase 2 of Healthy Living Boot Camp - Post your goals here" thread and print out your certificate. Hang it on your fridge or by your computer. Look at it with pride for a major goal accomplished!

Now, onward and downward for the next two weeks! Sue

As Sue explained, everyone ( no matter what phase your in ) will post here starting January 15th - Please wait until the 15th to post here though.

This is just to try to keep things simple and threads from getting to long or people getting lost ;)

Rephase me. I am not sticking to anything ... I think I need to redo my goals. Maybe I bit off more than I am ready for.

Hi....sadly I must request to be rephased :c( . The gym time, postive afirmations, stress investigation...all going smoothly. But I just cant seem to get in 30oz of water. Does anyone have a suggestion? I'm in classes all day, and typing furiously through them so I cant drink then. And if I'm not typing, I'm in constant fear of being called on (darn socratic method!). Once I get home and hit the gym, I just cant manage to chug that water to get it in. I get some in every day, but not 30oz.....I'm sad about the rephase since everything but that one element is going so right...but hey...gotta do what we gotta do! :)

Everyone Please Read This !

We ( Sue and I ) have changed the guidelines as of tonight about 1 AM.

Sue and I spoke on the phone for almost an hour tonight talking about this - and made this decision on what we hope is best for everyone.

The buddy system is no longer....... If you want an buddy - PM someone and ask them to be your buddy - but buddys will no longer be assigned.

These changes are for a few reasons:

1. The time involved in keeping track of this is unreal - Sue and I have been spending hours tracking everyone/everything each night..... and that leaves us no time to REALLY support you as we want to.....
The buddy system alone was taking us hours a night to take care of - new people joining and wanting a buddy, others quitting and needing a new buddy... etc etc.

2. We each need to answer to ourselves - and the tracking type charts and such were having you answer to Sue or myself -

So again, hopefully everyone will understand that the changes were made with everyones best interest in mind.

The basic concept of Boot Camp remains - the monitoring of it does not......
Honor System is in effect instead :)

Please read the updated guidelines - a LOT has changed - the sum of it is all "rules" & guidelines are as was - however you are accountable to you and you alone.... no more charts etc.

Read The Changes Here (http://www.icarepetcare.com/bccGuidelines.htm)

Sue & I swear this is the last update of guidelines lol - Thanks For Your Patience :D

Just a reminder about the new change that was posted a day or two ago: If you have to rephase twice, you are allowed to change your goals, but it will cause you to have to rephase again. Give it a real good try, but if it's not working for you, you need to re-evaluate and find out what does work. Shouldn't be too easy, but shouldn't be too hard either.

We do need to try to get in our water. How about drinking from a water bottle between classes. Just stick it in your bag and when you're thirsty, take a big chug, or two or three!

WOOHOO PHASE 2!! :D
I can't believe it made it for 2 weeks!!

Goals:
1. Workouts will now include 10-15 mins weight lifting/toning

2. I will Journal my food at the end of each day

3. I will continue to go to my ww meetings and weigh no matter what the outcome!

I just wanted everyone to know this has been great for me. I managed to lose 3.4 lbs over the past 2 weeks and feel it's largely due to this challenge :D
Thanks

Good morning, fellow bootcampers ...

Here's a new weekend for us! If I don't get moving soon the weekend will be over and all my chores will still be waiting for me.

I read the new guidelines from Beth and Sue and they make a lot of sense to me. Of course we need to be honest with ourselves first and foremost otherwise who are we kidding?

I'm doing better with my goals this time (my third time!) in Phase 1 ... in fact I need to get off this computer NOW so I can get started on my exercise plan for the day. :ex:

Just wanted to stop in on this new thread and wish you all a great weekend. Have fun! :D

:jn PS ... I am down 2 lbs since Jan 1 2005!!

Sue
01-15-05, 11:30 AM
Sweet Jean, thanks for your support: "I read the new guidelines...and they make a lot of sense to me. Of course we need to be honest with ourselves first and foremost otherwise who are we kidding?"
Woohoo, Tryin, on 3.4 pounds. Isn’t that great! All the hard work is paying off! And Pat’s sure to fit into smaller clothes by the end of the month too!
FSU and Muzziee, thank you soooo much for your offer to help. As you can see, we’ve done away with the tracking system, but by all means, step in to support the other members however you can, whether it’s offering support through the thread, being a buddy to someone who needs one, or in any other way you can.
FSU, I enjoyed reading your post in the last thread, you do seem to have a special knack!
And Muzziee, I’m amazed at your level of honesty, such an important virtue.
Good for you Blanche on resisting the temptation. Even though we won’t be “officially” tracking the rephases on a chart, you’ll still KNOW in your heart; and if just the idea of having to rephase is what keeps us on track then that’s a good thing.
Flutter, I know what you mean where you say, “I never thought I’d make it.” Sometimes, we don’t know just what all we ARE capable of doing until we make a commitment to do it and then do everything in our power to see it through to the end. Everyone has a lot to be proud of. Everyone has made major accomplishments!
Thanks to all the wonderful buddies out there. If the previous buddies want to remain buddies, that’s up to you all. Let’s all go out of our way to be helpful and supportive to each other. I’ve found, as I’m sure you have too, that offering our support to others helps us too, more than we could have imagined sometimes.
Vickie, congrats on the hemoglobin levels, but I’m sorry to hear about your upcoming surgery.

Well, it’s Saturday (yay!) and day 1 of phase 2 for me and I’ve got some goals to accomplish today, so I’m off for awhile. Hope you all have good days. (BTW, for anyone who might be wondering, the deleted threads mean nothing more than a general cleanup.) Sue

As this is my third time rephasing, I am changing my goals somewhat.

I am really having a struggle with the goals. This is the third time I am starting over. :c( I think I made too many to handle at one time. I am trying to change everything; I think I will see more success if I take smaller steps.

My new goals for phase one are:

1. Excersise 15 minutes a day. :ex:
2. Drink more water. :water:
3. Focus on my dieting and my school work, and not other things that are not as important. :hijacked:
4. Journal food everyday. :apple:

So today is Day 1 for me. I can do this!
Congratulations to everyone who is now on to phase 2! :jn You guys are doing so great! And so is everyone else, simply because they are still going at it.

I understand the buddy problem, and have no problem with you dropping it, so you can have time to do other aspects of the challenge management and/or have time to do things other than challenge management.

IF anyone want/needs a buddy, feel free to PM me, and I'll pair up people in the order they write to me.

Hi. Made it through Phase 1. And I am making it through day 1 phase 2. I've had my water and exercised 60 minutes. I am following the Core plan for Weight Watchers as part of my phase 2 challenge. I have my meals planned for today. I lost 6.8lb the first week of phase 1. And after the second phase 1 period I lost .6lb. So for phase one I lost 7.4 lb.

Phase 2 Day 1 Start date Jan 15

First of all, I want to let Beth and Sue know that I applaud their decision to let us monitor ourselves and be accountable to ourselves instead of them spending hours making charts and things for us. I know that I am perfectly capable of spending so much time talking about losing weight and making graphs and writing out plans that I never get around to actually DOING anything about my weight. It would be silly to expect you to become obsessed with keeping records of other people's weight loss efforts! This challenge is for each of us as individuals to apply to our own lives, and that is the only place it really has meaning. I have made great strides in understanding myself and developing new habits since this bootcamp started, and for that I am very grateful!

So here I am at the beginning of phase 2. I do have a little check off sheet made for my daily goals and I am doing fine so far. I have drank half my plain water and eaten half my fruits and vegetables. Tonight is the holiday dining out for my work place, followed by dessert at one of the veterinarian's home. (I am a receptionist in a veterinary clinic) My goals are focused on what I WILL eat, not what I WON'T eat, so the dessert thing won't pose a problem, but portion control and managing alcohol will be a challenge for me. Nothing like free margaritas on the boss to tempt a person to rephase.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Quote from what I wrote in the buddies thread:

Hi everyone -- I have done pretty good the last while, as you know, but yesterday I did the DUMBEST, STUPIDEST, IGNORANT thing and BLEW boot camp as I was only TWO DAYS away from completing phase one. You know what my crime was??? I ATE SOME CARROTS, CELERY AND DIP!!!!!! It was well within my calories, but one of my goals I had to meet for boot camp was NOT to eat past 9:00. Some friends dropped by about 8:00 and we were talking, etc., and when I put out the platter of veggies and snacks, wouldn't you know I was snacking away on the vegies not even REALIZING it was past 9:00. X-( I think boot camp is good for me, and this is a good lesson to THINK before I put something in my mouth, but I feel lousy that I blew it. I am having a hard time even getting the gumption up to start phase one over again. I feel like a turd. flush me.

well, that's my story... 8-| on to better days...

Sue
01-15-05, 05:38 PM
Yeah, but, Ivy, look what you've learned. To think before you eat. I'd say that's worth it. You know, we're going to be working on healthy eating for the rest of our lives, what's another 12 days? (yeah, easy for me to say right?). You'll be alright, you're a fighter.

Thanks, Nebraska. I'm soooo glad it's working for you! You have the perfect attitude.

And Amy, again, CONGRATULATIONS! That's a lot of weight. You've worked hard for every last pound. You go girl! Sue

01-15-05, 06:24 PM
HEY!!! Slashorkitty is alive, but must rephase!!! This friday totally blew it!!! Thursday as well!! SO I must rephase, and about the cat scan results, I am negative for evrything!!! It was a relief I wanted to cry so much. BUT... I still do have the fatty liver and have to take still more test. I have been taking so many test that i'm so sick of the hospital, everytime I go there I tell my mom I just want to go home cause when your in there taking so many test and them coming out negative it makes you feel like your crazy because the doctors say theres nothing wrong. are you sure you know what your talking about ma'am? I'm like What?! You make me feel like I'm crazy. Oh but, i'm taking test now for hepatitis of all kinds because he said that could be the problem wqith the liver, but then I think but what about my stomach and everything? he said your lactose intolerant. I said I know that i have known that for years. i could have told myself that. But when you wake up everynight in pain so much that you feel like somone is stabbing you and you cannot fall asleep until bacically around 1-5 in the mnorning and you cry and have somuch more problems with ur stomach which i dare not say for 13 years?, and then he says womething wrong with ur colon as well, and im like u just said theres nothing wrong. Plus so many needles and blood and xrays and everything else that i would not wish anyone to have to do, ugh. i'm so sorry i shouldn't even be talking about this, oh but the good news is i lost 2 pounds . (i know this cause i go to the hospital every two weeks so i get wieghed. my scale at home i rarely use it so yeah!!! Woo!! 2 pounds!!!

HI Everyone

Sue, Heather, Hollin, Bren, Kim, SweetJean, Amy, Nebraska, Ivory, Slash & Bride to be..............

There are 13 of us posted as of now :)

Hopefully over the weekend and on Monday more will join us.......

I have added a new thread here - It is a article thread. If you want to read or post articles, please do so at the new article thread. I think this will be helpful, as there is now a specific place for them, and less chance to get lost in the posts. Article Thread Is Here (http://diettalk.com/forums/showthread.php?p=484062#post484062)

If you have not read the post about the huge changes in the guidelines, please go back one page here to my post and be sure to read it. A lot has changed.

What a learning experience this has been for me !

I was talking to Sue ( icpc ) on the phone last night and she says "so how is your water going" and I responded with " its not - I am just farting around and not wanting to do it". ( more or less was my words ) after I got off the phone with her, I realized just how terrible that is ! This is my LIFE, my HEALTH & my WELL BEING and I just like had this blasé attitude about it...

NO MORE Of that !

I re start phase 1 tomorrow and I WILL make it !

My goals remain as was before:
30 ozs of water - 6 days a week of 30 minute exercise and 1 fruit and 1 beg a day ( minimal )

To all of you who are in phase 2 - way to go !!!!!!!!!!!!!! :cheer:

YOU ROCK !

To those of us who have or are re phasing - we rock too - as we are NOT giving up !!!!!!!!!!!

You have not failed until you quit trying......

PS: bride to be - just a reminder a phase is 14 days not 7

Bren checking in and starting over. I have injured myself and for the moment am having trouble walking so need to change my goals a tad too.

Phase 1/Day 1 (round three)....1/16-1/30
Goals:
1) At least 48 oz. water daily.......plain water
2) 3 meals/1 snack (if needed)
3) Avoid eating after dinner
4) Light/gentle exercise each day

I've hurt my back and now the hip and leg are fully engaged! The pain is bad :c( and I will be putting my exercise efforts into easing the pain and undoing the damage. So gentle stretching and what walking I can fit in will be my aim for these next two weeks.
I will still be doing my daily menu at the snow angels site and will be making better choices and watching portion control to form the habit. I expect....mind ya EXPECT this to be my last round of Phase One and I will be diligent! Thansks for the addendum Beth and Sue....that allows us to modify our goals after two rephases. I could not have finished in my current condition and I do NOT want to drop out for ANY reason!

Hello to my fellow rephasers!! I'm glad for the company for round three! It would have been sad indeedy to have to do it alone!! Let's boogy woogy!

Have a blessed day everyone and welcome any newcomers! Come on In and jump on board!

am writing at home and my internet connection is tenuous so will keep this fairly brief. Am into phase 2, and just want to say I appreciate Beth and Sue trying to keep on top of things, and thank you both for being smart enough to realize that adminstration stuff should not rule your life, and admitting it and changing the rules. Way to go! I need to be responsible for myself, and whatever help I can get here, terrific, but the utimate person I need to be true to is myself. So you are right on placing the burden back where it belongs. Thanks to you both for everything!

Yesterday was a great workout day...went to the gym, got in my cardio and a full lower body workout; today did an hour on the treadmill plus stretching. Can't weigh myself until Wednesday with the trainer...my clothes are fitting much better so I hope I have dropped another pound. I am almost into a ten!!! Celebrated on Friday by going to the thrift store and buying 4 new great jackets for work. Being bottom heavy, I always try to get snazzy stuff for my top to take the attention away from my lower half, but I have been holding off even looking at things until I started seeing results. I can't wait until I can start giving away all my baggy shirt tops. That would mean results are really starting to show.

Hope everyone is doing really well. Great going for those of you who are sticking with the rephrasing, and welcome fellow phase 2-ers! Have a great rest of the weekend! :)

Hi all:
I'm still here. Just have been really busy these past few days, and unfortunately I am rephasing because of it. Today I am starting to count my calories so I can see just what I'm doing wrong in a day. Hopefully this will help me become more aware of just how I'm getting so chunky.

Sumday, you can do it. I started phase 2 but only lost .6 lb after the second week. However I did lost 7.4 lb during phase 1. I am upping my goals for phase 2. I announced them in that section. I hope we can still be buddies since we both are about the same weight and have a bunch to lose. Take care and congrats on starting over. I too who am following the Core plan will start trying to count the calories also.

I had a successful day 1 in phase 2. I really upped my goals to drink 64 oz of water, to exercise at least 60 minutes a day five times a week and follow the
Core plan. I did this January 15. so 13 days to go.

I'm posting this today, but I'll be starting tomorrow and I know I won't have time in the morning.

Starting Phase 1: 1.17.05 - 1.31.05

Eat 1 veggie a day
Eat 1 fruit a day
Drink 32oz of water per day

Exercise
20 minute workout once a week
20 minutes of heavy housework once a week
Ab workout twice a week

This doesn't seem like much, but for me it will be a challenge and a move in the right direction. I hope to keep these changes for the rest of my life and add to them as well.

It's been way too many days since I could sit down and contribute to the threads :( Work has taken over my life and there's no real break in sight. I'm going to have to re-think my behavior patterns and adjust to the stress. It really helps to come to this board and see others who are addressing the same issues, and doing so successfully. Everybody's posts give me strength to persavere. Even though I'm not posting everyday, I am lurking in the morning and at night.

Congratulations to everybody who has made it thru Phase 1 and are now challenging thierselves with Phase 2 goals. Your determination and commitments are an inspiration to us all. Keep up the good work!!!

And to anybody who has Re-Phased, take pride in the fact that you haven't giving up. It takes a strong will to not just throw in the towel because there has been a set back. How many times in the past has that happened? It appears that this time is different. You're still here and you're still challenging yourself with your own goals. These Phases are only 14 days long, and when broken down into One Day At A Time, they are Do-Able. YOU CAN DO IT :*

HUGE KUDOS
to our fellow BCC members who have reached weight loss milestones!!!!! Getting below 200-lbs. or losing 100-lbs. certainly is something to celebrate. I'm very very happy for you!!!

"You have to expect things of yourself before you can do them." ~ Michael Jordan ~

I was going to share with you an argument that I had with myself last night (BTW, I won) but there's a football game on the TV at the moment that is demanding my attention. Perhaps I'll find the time to post later tonight and tell ya all about it. :cheer:

Hi Bren! (Did you think you were getting rid of me that easily, I care about you and your success too much to quit being your buddy!) I'm so sorry to hear about your injury. Back injuries can be very painful, so I feel for you and I'll be praying for your speedy recovery. I'm so proud of you for hanging in there! Stay strong honey.

Yesterday when I got up, I was so down and depressed because I felt so bloated. I felt so huge and it made me sad because I've been working so hard at following my plan; eating and drinking right, taking my multivitamin daily, and exercisng daily. By mid afternoon I my spirits were up and I was feeling better, but yesterday was my toughest day emotionally.

Thankfully Day 9 was a success and today is starting out great. I'm off now to the gym. I have a nice routine I follow at the gym - 45 minutes on the treadmill. I try to increase my speed every other day 1 point. Right now I'm on 3.9 but it's a bit too fast for me and forget about the incline that's kind of rough on me, .5 is the highest I went this year. I need more stamina to go higher. Then I do 5 minutes on the stairmill. Depending on what day it is, I follow that with toning and lifting.

See ya' everybody. Have a wonderful and blessed day. We ROCK!

I'm almost into phase 2, if I don't screw up. Three days left.
I've lost another two pounds , so I'm still on track with my personal goal of two pounds a week.

Nebraska, I can relate. I can plan for ever but have trouble doing what I've planned.

PS: It seems like it's really slowed down in here (myself included). I hope everyone is not burning out. Keep trying.

Hi Everyone,
Glad to see so many people doing so well. I have really been doing good lately. Today was a down day, no exercise, but kept busy. I did all my food shopping and laundry yesterday. I am down 6 lbs since I started at bootcamp :D .

Phase 2 Day 2 start date 1-15

I think it has been a little quiet all over the internet this weekend. Football playoffs maybe? The Golden Globes tonight? Who knows? Hopefully things will perk up here tomorrow. I need everyone's posts to help me stay motivatedd!

I have stayed on track today, I still have to consume one more fruit. I made an awesome broccoli cheese soup tonight, it has low fat milk and mashed potatoes and onion in it, too. YUM! I am finding that I am eating when I am full to get all my fruit and veggie servings in but it is not the kind of overeating that leaves me feeling stuffed and nauseous and uncomfortable like the way I used to eat. Very different feeling!

I did not eat any of the ooey-gooey super rich desserts at the holiday gathering last night. I had two small glasses of wine instead, no margarita at supper like I thought I might do. The biggest success was that when we got home after 10 PM I didn't drink more wine! I stuck with my goal! I have developed some bad habits of drinking wine or beer in the evening and changing that habit feels strange. But wow! what a rush when I realize how much change I have already accomplished since boot camp started. Alcohol calories are so bad for so many reasons, slowing metabolism, having ZERO food value, and consuming them before bed......... so changing that habit will make a big difference for me. I am also eating so many veggies and fruits that I have little room for other hihger-calorie things, I am certain my calorie count has to be going down.

I am reading Dr. Phil's book for the second or third time, a few paragraphs here and there through out the day. I can tell that I have made some internal changes since the first time I read UWLC. Hopefully, with the help of my bootcamp buddies, I will see some external changes soon.

I had a successful day yesterday and today! So tomorrow I start Phase 2 Day 3.
Tomorrow evening, if I get home earlier, I will try to post more indepth. Just wanted to check in tonight and let you guys know that I definitely started Phase 2!

Oh, BTW.....I lost 2.5 lbs so I am now proudly at 229 lbs.
Never gonna go back to the 230's again!!!!!!

Today I completed phase 2 day 1 successfully! It was a lot harder than I expected, but I remember my phase 1 goals were very hard when I started phase 1. (My phase 2 goals include my phase 1 goals plus a couple new ones also.)

Glad to see so many people sticking to this challenge - it really helps me having all you out there and looking at your posts and realizing that others have the same difficulties as me.

Beth and Sue, this group of people doing the challenge are great support, and that is what is so helpful about what you have created - I'm glad you are not going to spend hours keeping track of all our progress and instead will have more time to focus on your own goals.

I just can't seem to get a grip, but in reality know that I just have to buckle down and do what needs to be done. I need to apply discipline to the things I need to do and just DO THEM! Geesh already.....

......so I will start over day one tomorrow and re-list my goals, too. They will be the same ones, but I want to formally post them again for me.

Tomorrow is a new day..... here's hoping I wake up with a new attitude! Hope everyone has a good sleep! Good night everyone.....

Making these count. I am TWO DAYS away from completing one of the HARDEST 2 weeks. I will not let myself fail. JAN. 16TH- DAY 12 is over and I did a good job. Aside of chatting right through dinner time X-( .. BUT I had plenty of healthy snacks to hopefully, make up for those lost cals.

I have lost 3 pounds :dn

I feel those pounds GONE in my waist for sure! :o

-----------------------------

You all are doing such an amazing job. I am so amazed on all the accountability and honesty. I think that everyone truely understands that this camp is for your own selves. And if you cheat yourself, you're really not winning any goal.

My re-phase on Jan. 5th, was a hard day. Because I hated myself for letting ME down, but also, I had to think positive about getting back into the groove.

Keep up the great work everyone!!!

2 days until PHASE 2.... should I be happy, or NERVOUS?!!

I need to rephase because today I ate more than my daily allowance. Fortunately all the foods I ate were GOOD foods ... I just ate too many of them. I felt "munchie" :pass: after dinner and kept having snacks ... eventually I was over my limit.

This will be the third time I'm rephasing and I need to change one of my goals. I had been following the WW food group plan (8 proteins, 3 fruits, 2 breads, etc. per day ... it's their plan from long ago). It isn't working for me. Instead I want to count calories using Fitday to track my daily foods. My goals are:

1. No refined sugar or high carb foods
2. Walk 15 minutes or more outdoors 3X per week
3. Do strength exercises 4X per week (2X middle, 1X lower, 1X upper)
4. Count Calories (1300 - 1600 calories per day)

I have been having great success with Boot Camp (motivation and accountability). This is a learning process and I am looking for a plan that will work for me long term. I am more than happy to start over knowing that each new start brings me closer to my right plan. I hope my other rephasing partners see the good of what we're doing and are not discouraged.

My new dates for Phase 1 are January 17 to January 30.

Rephase me (again). Won't bore you w/ the details, lets just say that I haven't made my goals since Friday. And then to make me feel even better my scale showed a 4.2lb INCREASE since friday... :c( I know I couldn't have gained that much weight but still stinks to even seen that on the scale.

Anyway my goals for this time are:

*30 minutes of exercise 6 days/week
*Take my depression meds as per doctors directions
*water, daily
*track food daily, on ww online

Let's start w/ those and see how I do...now that I've wasted so much time on here, have got to book it to get my 30 minutes in before getting ready for work.

GOOD Morning fellow campers!!!

It IS a good morning at my place 'cuz it's my Friday! Woohoo! AND......My buddy is STILL my buddy! Thanks Vegas so much for hanging with me! You're a treasure! YAY! Day 11 already and you will be slipping into Phase two! You're rocking GF! Don't those bloat days bite the biggun? I have about 3 a month when I feel like one of those poor whales beachin' itself. I have nice things to wear that would cheer me up but the maid won't iron like I asked her too...can't get good help for the price I pay.
I did well yesterday, met all my goals and had no trouble with 'em. I am just so glad to still be in the game! I did a lot of gentle stretching yesterday and am praying for speedy recovery as well so I am in agreement with you in prayer!

Beth....you tickle me with your X-( SPIT! I love the humor and it certainly helps cut the stress levels! I love to laugh and get some good ones here! Keep getting back up and carrying on!

Congrats to those of you who are counting down the pounds! Mikey...I regained two last week and it's back off this week but I can identify with the frustration of doing the same ones over! That bites! BUT....we'll just re-phase those pounds and carry on!
I am very proud of each of you........I am still learning as I go and am blessed so much to be here each day! Ya'll are my therapy! LOL!

Oh no Vickie...computer down! I too would be having withdrawal! YIKES! Glad you're back on and moving ahead!! Mine is old but she gets the job done and I'd sure miss her if she cut out on me! I had two months of trouble last year and running to the Library to check in wasn't a whole lot of fun!

Welcome to all our newcomers! It's great to have you here at Camp! I've gotta run and get ready for work..have a blessed day everyone! I'll be back tonight or the AM.

Hi All. Sorry I’ve been MIA. I’ve now joined the Rephase Me Club! Phase 2 Day 1 (1/17-30). Major binges. Started with a feeling of munchiness, slowly progressed to a free-for-all. Tried to stop it and couldn’t. Next day was fine. Went to a social gathering and had a good time, but the second I came home, I started all over with part 2 of my binge. Ended up just going to bed. Overtired, overwhelmed, fear of future has set in. Felt so bad, I almost called in to work sick but couldn’t bring myself to do that. As it turns out, today’s a federal holiday so no one’s here. So, I’m gonna get my work done and then I’m going to try to get out of my funk and figure out my long-term finances, etc., or maybe vice versa. Needed to come on here though to get refreshed and try to take the focus off me for a minute.

Slash (Michelle), I’m sorry to hear about your pains. I hope they can figure it out soon so you can be well on the road to recovery.
Welcome, Bride to be, toonmom, and Leslie! I wish you all success on Phase 1!
Beth, good luck, my friend. I give you much credit for your persistence.
Blondee, sorry to hear about your back. I hope it heals quickly so you can get back to exercising soon; but more than that, to just not feel the pain any more. Love that caffeine smilie that you used. It brought a smile to my face.
Sumday, I love it when I hear people tracking their calories so they can figure out where their problem areas are. Good luck.
Artmaker—congrats on the body shape changing. Enjoy those new clothes!
Glad you had a good day Saturday, Heather. May many more follow.
Muzziee, I’m intrigued about your argument! Details, girl!
Vegas, good for you for striving for improvement each day on your workout. Keep up the good work.
Msweb, Jersey, FSU, and Vickie, congrats on the pounds lost!
Nebraska, good for you on the changes you’re making.
Sweet Jean, I hear you on the munchie factor. Hate that! Good luck w/your new goals.
I wish you well Mikey.
To all of us who are having troubles sticking with our goals :whip: :ghug:

quick hello! good weekend, good workout this morning with my trainer. She is upping my weights, so it was fun seeing how high I could go. I was even able to do 8 fullbody pushups.

I think this is going to be a tough phase for me here. Sticking to 1400 calories for two weeks is going to be a real challenge. I am going to try!!!

Happy Monday all!

edit: back again, just had time to read the thread. Vickie, way to go buddy!!! So pleased for you. YAHOO!

Good morning all.

Rephase time for me. I can try and say it wasn't my fault ... even tho I know it was. My daughter made these absolutely wonderful cookies (it's a real blessing/curse having two teenagers who love to bake, and both want to be chefs). They were chocolate chip/toffee cookies ... the kind that you just cannot stop having "one more". I lost count how many I had ... I think it was at least seven. :o X-( :c(

So of course my weight is back up today ... duh! 262.2 :c( ... but I know it was all me ... I can't blame Jasmin for being a great baker ... I could have stopped at one. But I didn't.

New Rephase infor: start: Jan 17 end: 31 weight start: 262.2

For lack of a better way to do this, I'm putting this message here as well as in the thread for our 2nd phase goals. Want people to see them so that I am accountable - especially with the honor system! :o

OK so I've been lost what with all the new threads we're supposed to be using. I started phase 2 today. Had my goals all ready last night but had no idea where to put them. Now that I've gotten my brain together, here they are.

1) Do DDR 5X per week, 30 minutes each time
2) Do my new yoga DVD to help me relax 3X per week in the mornings
3) Do some other tape (TaeBo, Fit to Strip, etc) 1X per week
4) Continue healthy eating plan, vitamins, meds, water from phase 1
5) Give myself one compliment per day - not necessarily weight related

Even though my goals were very hard for me to meet (still the dang meds are the hardest), I made it through Phase 1 so inspired that I've made Phase 2 really challenging. But I love my new yoga DVD and I have such a collection of other fitness DVDs that are going to waste - they must be used!

Good luck fellow bootcampers!

PS I am happy to be on the honor system - I'm sure more people signed up for this than you expected Beth and Sue. But isn't it wonderful to have all this support?! :ghug:

I went to curves today and let me tell you how very upsetting it was !

Due to the bad snow covered roads around here - I went to a different curves that is on my way to work - ( I normally go to curves in a different town ) hubby dropped me off, oh my goodness this place is TERRIBLE!

The equipment is in horrible shape - one machine tipped over with me on it.....the place is DIRTY! The padding is coming out and the recovery boards are broken ! Paint chips every where and on and on...... X-(

I came home and called the main Curves in Texas and got the email address for concerns and emailed them a letter.....

I only went around 1 time as the place was so nasty......

However I did go lol and so 1 of my goals are met lol

I had dinner cooking in the crockpot while I was at work and at curves, so we had crockpot porkchops, with no fat gravy and mashed potatoes and peas. I wanted to make a huge salad to go with it but......

I feel like I am getting the flue & don't feel up to doing much, so if I am not around assume I got it :(

Thanks for the vent space......

Hi Beth I hope you feel better. I finally exercised today and it was hard but great :D I had a crab salad but in an hour I was hungry so I ate an orange and a banana. Usually I would have ran an ate a bag of chips. I am determined that I will lose weight. I,m sorry to hear about that facility. That is sad to think that somebody who is trying to improve their health has to work out in a crummy place like that. X-( Hi IPC I know about binging but you are back on track and that is all that matters. :D Hi Hnyack you are back on track too and that is wonderful keep on going you are a winner :D Congrats on the exercise :ex: amyrs. You go Badger with phase 2 I can't wait until I make that phase. :ribbon: Take care ladies

Exercise done, fitday done. My addition goal for phase 2 was to avoid all the treats in candy dishes all around work. I was surprised how many times I encountered one and had to remind myself not to mindlessly pop a candy in my mouth! but i stuck to it.

Phase 2 Day 2

Hi everyone! I'm really surprised (maybe I shouldn't be) at how hard this is for me. Today was a real struggle, but I did manage to get to the end of it and meet my goals. I was in one of those bookstores that has a nice coffee bar with fabulous looking treats, and of course the only place availalbe to sit in the store was in the coffee bar area . . . In a way it was luck that I completed the day without going off, as the line for the coffee bar remained long - if it had disappeared, who knows. :o But I did keep thinking that if I got something to eat then I'd need to rephase - and I really did not want to do that - I suppose thinking about how awful I would feel after eating that cheesecake is what really kept me away from it. Hope tomorrow is easier!

Hello all my fellow campers and my special buddy!!

Everyone is doing great and Showing Up counts as 3 points a day!! Thanks Beth and Sue for well wishes.......I am doing well and had some moments yesterday where the pain had subsided a great deal so that lets me know this is a simple problem that I can fix........and fix it I will!
I have a stretching video in there that Lizzie sent me.Richard Simmons and I think I will clear some space to do that. I have Angela Lansbury's "Positive Moves" too. I love that lady..beautiful and classy.......I'd love to do some easy yoga stuff..that sounds soothing!

OH Beth! What a nasty experience! I would be reporting that place as well! I'm surprised someone hasn't already! Yikes! We have a Curves here and my friend's daughter goes there on her lunch break......yep one round at that place was more than enough. Oh no! I hope you don't have the flu.....that too, is nasty! Take good care of you!

Sue.........you've had tremendous success and tremendous stress and the momentary lapse will right itself. You'll get right back up and carry on. The binge thing is something a lot of us are a bite away from some days! I used to buy a cart load of crap to do one on purpose and I am so thankful that's a PAST behavior. I NEED that little caffiene guy this morning! I'm out of filters so did a packet of de-caf...eeek!

Have a wonderful day everyone.......I have my to do list done..now to actually perform the tasks on the list!
I'll be back!

Phase 1 - day 1 (rephasing 1/18-2/1)

Yep, I am rephasing for a 2nd time. Cold and flu over the weekend pretty much took me down. Also, we had frozen pipes Sat. morning and morning is when I usually drink my water. I have a 64 oz container that I fill up every morning and drink until it is empty. Well, I had no way to fill it up short of going outside the house to get water and I just blew it. It was more than that. I cut my thumb very badly Fri. night, and on top of the flu and everything I just couldn't over come. This is only my 2nd rephase so goals stay the same. Congrats to all of you that are doing a great job and well done for all of those giving it your all.

I am feeling 100 % better so I went to Curves today ( to MY curves lol ) and got in a good work out. I bought one of their water bottles - hoping to help me be more "inspired" to drink water......

There was a lady there this morning who wanted to try it out before she decided if she wanted to join but she had on dress shoes - I had an extra pair of sneakers with me ( as to the nasty weather ) and let her use mine - I hope she joins.

I am changing my user name here at DT to REPHASE !!!!!!!! X-(

No, not really but I should !

I have gained back almost 8 pounds !!!!!!!!!!
This is so NOT going to happen !!!!!!!!!!!! NO NO NO NO NO NO !
Game on !!!!!!! Look out fat here I come and I am taking you DOWN !!!!!!!!!!

Goals:

1. 30 ozs of water daily

2. Curves 3 times a week

3. 1 fruit a day

4. 1 veg a day

Also I am quitting smoking as of midnight tonight - watch out world - I don't think this is going to be pretty......... :c(

Leslie - way to go on grabbing for fruit instead of junk foods !

Toonmom - great !

Blanche - way to go on hanging tough !!!!!

Hnyack - great !

FSU - wonderful ! You can do this !

Blondee - super attitude !

Vanessa - way to go !

Vegas - way to go !

Kris - I am so sorry to hear about the flue and cutting your thumb - ouch ! Thrilled to hear that your not giving up though !!!!!!!!!

Virgina - Hang tough ! You have not failed until you quit trying ! You CAN do this !

Beth, glad flu didn't hit, the Curves visit sounds like hitting a bathroom at a gas station...you KNOW how awful they can be. At least it was a one-time experience. Good for you for reporting it. Quiting smoking and boot camp at the same time...you are amazing! Good luck!

Vanessa and Vegas, great going! Everyone else, hope you are doing well...can't remember all names.

Well, I weighed for this week this morning and didn't lose...but didn't gain! And, my clothes are fitting so much better that I am not concerned. Did half hour treadmill last night in addition to my morning upper body workout, and stayed under 1400 cals eating. This morning did a fantastic treadmill workout, random hills---boy was I sweating. Was on for 45 minutes, burned 285 calories. Almost up to my 300 for the day. May do Leslie Sansome walking tape tonight, just for variety's sake.

It is really tough to stay eating under 1400 cals. I am trying to cut back, but don't want to cut back on snacks and desserts because I want this to be an eating plan, not a diet. Have started having smaller breakfasts...one egg instead of two, half as much oatmeal as in the past, etc. Hope it works. Doesn't give me much fudging around room...have to stay on the straight and narrow.

Have a great day all!

Sue

Artmaker, it sounds like you're really doing great, even though you don't show a weight loss. Don't worry, your body will catch up with your good habits.
Amy, you're on day 4 already? Holy cow, girl. Weight loss slows down, as long as your healthy eating habits don't, you're still ahead of the game.
Beth, the idea of you changing your user name to rephase struck me as funny, but I know it's not to you. Don't forget, you always gain during TOM. You'll be ok. Good luck w/the smoking, you brave girl you!
Virginia, two thoughts on sweets: either ALLOW yourself a bit each day or get them completely out of your house. You'll figure out which method works best for you. Good luck. I know that can be tough.
Kris, glad you're feeling better. Good luck on meeting your goals.
Vegas, Vanessa and FSU, only one more day to go! Keep going strong!
Heather and Blanche, I'm so proud of both of you for making it through the day.
Hey Pat. Good for you on being more aware!
Congrats, Toonmom, on meeting your goals and to Leslie for changing your habits (and for your encouragement).

I'm on day 2 of phase 2. Doing much better and back on track. This world's not going to grab me by the tail. I'm going to grab it! Have a good day everyone! Sue

I haven't checked in here for a while, so thought I better take the time. So far I'm doing pretty good. Yesterday was the first day for my goal of not eating unhealthy snacks M-F. I made it, but was very tempted to grab some food when my husband came home late and heated up his dinner. Smelled mighty fine to me! But I put up a good fight and just filled up on the "smell" of food.

Tomorrow at work we're having a staff appreciation lunch of pizza. One of my favorites! As long as I can keep myself from pigging out, I should be OK. But free pizza???? Those are two of my favorite words - free and pizza! Maybe if I eat very slowly, I won't be able to stuff my face too full in 45 minutes! :not: We'll see.

Phase 1 day 11

Just checking in, everything is going real good. The scale keeps going down (a good thing) and I can button my jeans again :D ( a real good thing). I have kept to my goals and I even started a food journal which is a big help. I have been on a lot of sites getting recipes so I don't get bored. I have done an assortment of exercises for that reason also.

Kris O.- I know what it's like to have your pipes freeze although its been awhile, thank goodness. Hope you feel better soon. Hang in there.

Congrats to everyone that is hanging in there!

Two more glasses of water, and I'm done with PHASE #1. Now I'm going to take this time to relax and think about PHASE #2. Harder goals, more effort. :whip: I cannot believe that I am finally through with PHASE #1. It seemed to last forever. But I can't complain. As of Jan. 1st, I am 3-4 lbs lighter! :o To all of those who are struggling, hang in there! It will get easier, I promise you that. I will come back here to wish you all the best. Did my RS video

Put my food on fitday

Avoided all candy traps at work

I'm also avoiding the scale as my weight loss really slacks off when I follow a WOE for a few weeks.

Good luck to everyone, it's hard in the depths of winter.

Phase 2 Day 4 Start date January 15

I got all my goals accomplished today, I didn't stretch after Curves but I got my work out done, so I think that counts. :)

I had one success today I want to share. I had a date to go to lunch with a girlfriend. We used to work together and our big event of the week was to get food from a certain restaurant in town. Now that we no longer work together, we usually go to lunch at that same restaurant. Today I suggested we go to a buffet that I like and she agreed to try it. I suggested this particular buffet because it has lots of fresh vegetable and fruit choices, and I knew it would be easier for me to meet my goals for the day if I ate at that buffet. Suggesting a change in our regular routine felt a little strange to me, it was not just a change in our usual restaurant, it was a change in my own behavior and a bit of a risk to suggest something different. I am so glad it worked out this way -- it gives me confidence to try changes more often.

I spent an enormous amount of time in the bathroom today. I have no clue why today was so different, but I expect to see a huge water weight loss the next time I weigh myself.

Keep posting, everyone. I may not respond to each individual post, but you are all a big part of my day! Thanks for everything you ALL do to make this challenge possible! Not just the moderators but every one who participates as well.

I am just finishing up my water and I will have completed all my goals for the day. I still have a few things to write in my food journal....I have only done that since Saturday and I have discovered a wealth of information about my eating habits already. I will share them with you later if the trends continue. I am trying to be super honest in what I write down....if I ate candy....its in the journal! I am also trying not to change the way I would normally eat (except for the fruits and vegetable goals) cause I want a accurate picture of my eating habits. I will know my shortcomings soon and repairing them will become new goals in future BOOTCAMP phases.
Congrats to everyone who came and participated this week. If you are here, you are a winner...maintain, loss or gain! Because you are still here and you are still trying.
Make Wednesday be a wonderful day!

Hi everybody ...

Well, I would say we're doing pretty darn good all things considered. I know we're all in different stages of this bootcamp, but

NO ONE IS GIVING UP!!!!!

That's what counts.

Beth, are you planning to use something to help you quit smoking? I was a smoker ... a dedicated smoker ... and after trying to quit on my own about 10 times I finally quit for real by using Nicorette. Without it I would have eaten someone's head off. What a relief it was to chew that gum! We were just laughing about it the other day ... I chewed so much of that stuff I pulled out one of my fillings! My doctor said it was better to be addicted to Nicorette ... at least I wasn't getting all the tar and toxins besides the nicotine. That was about 10 years ago.

When I was ready I finally quit Nicorette too ... and now the unbelievable has happened ... I don't crave nicotine anymore. I never thought that day would come!

Anyway Beth give it some thought ... you can do it.

Good night everybody ... give it your best shot tomorrow. We're all in this thing together.

Phase 2 Day 3 completed. It was a bit easier than the weekend, thank goodness!
I was so busy at work it was hard to make time to eat at all. Keep telling myself as the phase progresses it should get easier, and hoping this is true. 8-|

I walked outside in the cold, cold weather, was happy about this - I wore 4 pairs of pants and 4 shirts (none individually were all that warm) under my coat, along with 2 hats and a hood. I know this sounds ridiculous, - I felt so padded like I could alomst roll instead of walk, and I have to find time to get a treadmill, but at least I did it.

I can't remember who asked, but I heard that a seaweed called kombu helps prevent gas - when you buy canned beans some brands (for example EDEN brand) come with little bits of it included (can't really taste these little bits at all). I've used it in soups with beans and vegetables and it seemed to help a bit.

Phase I Day 13
Did extra good today. Got in a work-out at work today. Bike, treadmill, and all the weights. I actually enjoyed the work out. Probably because what else would I be doing, working. I wish I felt that way at home. At home I think of all the things I could be doing. Wish I could do that every day but today was special circumstances. I am going to see if I can make some adjustments at work and get in a few more during the week. :)

One more day until Phase II
I'm giong to make some adjustments for my next phase.

Congrats to all you biggest losers. Keep it up for life.

Hi everyone

It's been a while since I posted and I have to confess I've fallen in a hole. I am going to have to rethink my goals and decide what to do. I have been incredibly tired lately and have been comfort eating, going to bed late and generally not looking after myself

Congrats to everyone who has done so well and is keeping up with the challenge. Right now I'm back at square 1 and deciding what my next step is...

Beth as far as the threads go I can understand why you want to keep the threads shorter but I would prefer to be in a thread of only phase 1 people and then a separate thread if I get to phase 2

Lastly buddies... I had a buddy but she dropped out. Does someone else need a buddy?

Day 2 of Phase 1 went well. I met all my goals and lost another pound.

However, I am now at my give-up point. This is the weight that I can always get to quite easily, but can never get past. Any tips for getting past that point?

sweetpea

you have to decide how important the goals are to you, and think about how much better you will feel if you achieve them

write a list of all the good things that will happen if you stick to your plan :)

Well good morning again.....
I was waxing eloquent and got my butt booted off so will try this again!! No telling what I had said before! Make stuff up ya'll!

Sweetpea! So good to see you again and come on up out of that there hole, a step at a time. Get a foothold and climb on up...head up and into the sunshine. You did it before, you can do it again......you deserve success sweety!
Kris..OH NO! Nasty cut, frozen pipes, weather related rephase..oh poo! I hope things will thaw out and the cut heals quickly. I know how painful that can be! Take good care of you!
Congrats to our Phase Two group coming in! Vegas  my bud, Rebekah, Msweb, Vanessa...did I miss someone? WOW! Great work you all! Those already moving up the road in Phase two.....wonderful work!! HooYa!
Beth..am SO glad the flu didn't snacth ya up! Whoo! SO glad you're feeling better! NOT GIVING UP...........key factor!
Artmaker! Wonderful report! You are really rocking! Hey..I got that book yesterday at the Library that you suggested...on beating arthritis.....I'll be looking into that today and getting my exercise space arranged for easier access.
Food:...I've found that I can make do with a lot less than I used to, as well......I've been nuking my egg lately and that works great. Problem was, I got really attached to my eggs :o and was ignoring my oatmeal..so did a switcharooski this past week and made oatmeal my choice for 3 days, WG toast 2 and haven't had an egg 'till today.....gonna have it for Breakfast in a bit. It's a good feeling to back down on the portion sizes........now for me to make a habit of it!

Congrats to each of you...moving on up the line and taking the curves in stride! Let's knock our socks off!
I'll c-yall here later! Have a wonderful day!!

Thanks for all the encouraging congrats; HOWEVER....I have to rephase. Day 1 of Phase 2 for me.

Don't know what triggered yesterday's binge...I just craved crunch, and since I had forgotten to bring my jicama and celery sticks to work, I ended up popping a bag of light popcorn...but it didn't stop there...I went home had cereal and milk, handful of nuts, ricotta and applesauce, and more nuts. This is all after eating dinner at work. By the end of the day I figured I had taken in 2200 cals in all, way over my max goal.

But, today is a new day, I worked out with the trainer at the gym, boiled myself some eggs and cut back on my breakfast a bit, and am back trying to stick to under 1400 cals. This time I am going to do it! And, I am not going to continue to feel bad, because 17 days without bingeing is a new record for me. So, even tho' I did badly, I did well up till then, and I am pleased.

A new day, a new dawn, a new phase 2 on the horizon.

Bren, hope you find the book helpful.

Thanks Artmaker....I'm thinking I will..I just glanced thru it at the Library and I believe I'll find great advice in it. I'll copy some stuff at work.
Oh poo.......rephasing........binge thing...I am just betting compared to former ones tho it was a mini-binge. Great job and yep, 17 days without an episode is wonderful!!
I've found myself thinkin' of donuts the past few days and will NOT be getting any! I've done really well cutting sugar and I don't wanna step back into that particular trap. I need to be careful watching those Food Channel shows! That's where the donut thing came from!
Ok..I'm gonna do breakfast now and get my place cleaned up. I have my chicken and HB meat cooked for the next 2 weeks meals and will do my menu up later as well as a chart for my Bulletin board.

I'll be back!

Good Morning everyone. Phase 1 ... lost track of what day, but will scroll back and figure it out .. I think it is day 4. :o

I have been super busy, so have not been on diettalk as much as usual. I am keeping to my goals. I am finding, with my bike, that if I do it in the morning I get it done everyday, and am not so irritated by the uncomfortable seat. I am thinking that once (if I ever) get to phase 2, I may try to do more than once a day ... I cannot sit on the seat for more than 15 minutes, but want to try doing it a couple times each day ... not promising to do it yet everyday, but am going to try it out.

Getting more and more excited/nervous about my interview/trip to Ottawa. I got the information package from them yesterday, and am feeling very overwhelmed. I have to give a powerpoint presentation at the interview :help: I hate speaking in front of groups ... I can do it, but it makes me so nervous my voice usually tightens up to the point I sound like I am crying or whining. Add this to the normal nerves of a job interview ... eeek! I am excited tho, and will spend the next couple weeks creating the best presentation I possibly can.

hnyack
01-19-05, 11:35 AM
Ok .. I was smarter than I thought ... it is day 4!

Did something I have not done in years ... instead of pre-sweetened cereal, or other fattening options, I made homemade oatmeal. Was delicious ... forgot how much I like it. I make it with lots of cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg, chopped apples, and raisins ... and the oatmeal of course! Was a great way to start the day ... got kids home tho, as we got freezing rain overnight, and the roads are closed. Like to keep them safe, but means I ususally do not get as much done all day, as I cannot concentrate on school work when they are distracting me with tv/fighting/noise/music etc.

FSU girl ... way to go on finishing phase 1! Hopefully I will be there with you soon. You are doing so great! Congrats on the loss.

Just for the record, in terms of sweetpeas comment, I prefer to have everyone together ... if I take to long to get to phase 2, I will not be aware/able to be supportive to others, and will feel like I do not belong in the group. I am also inspired by seeing them succeed. I vote for NOT separating the phases into threads.

Sorry about all the successive posts .. .can't seem to shut up this morning! :D

Phase 2 Day 5 -- I got through it although it was tough. That huge chocolate torte made its way to work and sat there tempting me all day X-( (I resisted) but I didn't get my fruit servings eaten until tonight which made me feel really full -- but still in a different way from what fat and sugar binges used to do. I think I am eating way too big of portions in my vegetable servings, but it is keeping me out of more destructive things, so I am not going to worry about it for the time being. Next phase maybe I will start to measure portions.

If it is up for a vote, I would like to keep us all together, too. I don't think it matters that we are at different places in bootcamp, the fact that we are all here should unite us. I need support from everyone here!

Completed Phase 2 Day 4, but it is still hard! Keep hoping it will be less of a struggle. But looking on the bright side, I have gone 20 days with no absolutely no sugar and no caffine, which has to be a record for me.

My vote too would be to all stay together on page regardless of the phase we're in. I think it is good to remain one big group supporting each other instead of a few smaller groups.

Hi Ginny and Sweetpea. I had missed you, along with many others. I’m sooooo glad so many of you are still sticking to your healthy goals.
Sweetpea, I understand what you’re going through. Seems I might be in the same hole as you. We need to remember that we’re important enough to take good care of ourselves. Here’s a hand up…
Toon, I know about give-up points too. My give-up point was at 6 months so I had a little longer to feel a good long bout of success and had time to make some healthy habits, but what finally broke me out of it was my refusal to give up, no matter what. I also had to sit down and figure out what made me WANT to give up at certain points. I tell you earnestly, it wasn’t easy but it was worth it to grapple with my issues and overcome them (still working on them and probably always will to a certain extent). Sweetpea, you had a fantastic idea—I think I’ll try that one too.
Blondee, I’m so glad you’re a part of this challenge, you're such an encouragement! Variety is the spice of life, right?
Artmaker, 17 days without a binge is fantastic! Here’s to another 17 days.
Hnyack, sounds like you’re back on track again and you post whenever the mood strikes you—we love to hear from you! A powerpoint presentation at your interview? Wow! Well, you’ll be an expert with your presentation by the time it comes and just KNOWING the information in your heart will really help. Good luck with it.
Amy, Phase 2 Day 5!!! You’re doing sooooo great!
Beth, we’ll miss you but I know you’ll enjoy those grandkids that you love so much. Show them how grandma is doing healthy things now.
Ginny, I hear you on the “just filled up on the ‘smell’ of food.” I’m like that too, sometimes I just need to see it or smell it. Does the trick sometimes. Sometimes not, but when it does work, it’s very very sweet! Congrats on resisting the temptation of the snacks. How did your pizza day go?
Jersey, you’re doing just fantastic. Congrats on being able to button those jeans! You’re making excellent progress!
FSU, you’re right on target and going strong!
Tryin, good for you on eating right and journaling. You’re up to the challenge.
Pat, yes it is hard in the depths of the waters, but you’re swimming and not sinking. Wonderful!
Wow, Nebraska. I’m really proud of you! Keep changing the things that need to be changed!
Vickie, good for you on tracking your eating so you know what needs to be fixed. Very smart!
And Sweet Jean, I am soooo glad you’re such a strong, helpful part of BC!
Blanche, your dedication to meeting your exercise goal is amazing and no sugar or caffeine to boot! I'm really proud of you!
Msweb, how lucky you are to be able to exercise at work!

One of the best things about this Boot Camp Challenge is how you are all encouraging each other and you all have the most wonderful advice! I also like how you all feel that you can express your thoughts on the decisions that have been made. Remember, we’re all on the same journey, no matter what phase or rephase we’re on.

Well I finally made it through Phase I. :D :D :D Better late than never I guess. This has been a learning experience for me.

Hnyack I agree with you about exercising in the AM. I've also heard that exercising in the morning can jump start your metabolism for the day.

Blondee 17 days without binging is great. It's not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives, but what we do consistently (don't know who said it).

Artmaker I'm curious what jicama is?????

Sweetpea I like your ideas on how to stay motivated.

ToonMom Your already soooo close. Maybe you've reached a plateau. Once you break through that barrier I'm sure you'll really be motivated. I've read you should stop weighing yourself for about 3 weeks (I could never do that) and increase your exercise. Then you will probably have a very nice surprise.

Blanche 20 days without sweets, that's great. I heard that it takes 21 days to break a habit. I don't think I've ever gone 20 days without sweets.Congrats.

Well I'm off to go post my Phase II goals. Yeh for me! :)

Hi everyone I am in phase 1 day 4. I had my wisdom tooth pulled yesterday. :( I did three days of exercise and I felt great. My water isgood and I journal all of what I eat and that is wonderful. I weight myself to do a check point and this is before I got my tooth pulled and so far I have lost 3 pounds :D I am a little concerned about what to eat right now because of my tooth. I guess I will have to eat a lot of fruit and eat some cool soup. I can't eat anything to hot or to cold. Congratulations msweb now you are going to phase 2. I can't wait to go into that phase but I have a little ways to go. Pat way to go keep up the good work continue to avoid that candy and you will feel so proud of yourself. :D

Good morning everyone!
It's back to work for me today.....I have one vacation day from last year I'd like to take but need prior "warning" given! Maybe next week? I need a day to do files/tubs/closets!
I got my space set up in the living room and have about a 5'x5' spot clear to do my videos/floor work and stretching in. My pain has eased up a LOT and I feel almost ready to do a real workout!

We had a lovely, sunny day here yesterday so I kept the door open a bit to catch some rays. I didn't get laundry or ironing done so will have to hustle in the evenings to catch up!
Have a wonderful day fellow campers........be blessed in your endeavors today!

Good morning all ... day 5 phase 1

Had a good day yesterday. Got all my goals accomplished, and made lots of progress on the powerpoint ... steep learning curve, as I have little experieice with it, but am doing fine.

Today I am going to try the 2 times on the bike ... will see how it works. Yesterday I meant to, but was really busy with too many things ... need to keep in mind that my fitness needs to be a higher priority, not the last thing to do if i can squeeze it in.

Hope you all have a wonderful fantastic day. :flower:

Doing okay. Still logging my points (food) but not making the healthiest choices and am struggling with the exercise. I have had a cold on top of my stupid injury and I feel run down. Hello fellow Bootcampers!

I will be starting Phase 1 again tomorrow!

I spent today at my daughter's house babysitting two sick children. I took my own food with me "so I'd stay on my plan" but started eating "zoo animal cookies" and "teddy bear bites" right after breakfast. My daughter's house is always filled to the brim with cookies, candy, and treats and is not an easy place for a sugarholic like me! X-(

I am so tired now that I'm home (I must have walked miles all over that house today) I plan to get a good night's sleep and start everything over "BRAND-NEW" tomorrow. :(

Thank you for listening!

Though day 6 is not yet complete, I'm pretty confident I'll make it through without snacking. It does get easier once you get past day 2!

The pizza lunch went really well. The pizza was cut in small pieces (so everyone would get their fair share). I only took two pieces and felt so stuffed afterwards! :-& It must be due to my new eating habits. Maybe the stomach is shrinking; the good types of food I'm eating; plus all the water I drank before lunch.

Thanks for all the support from this group - its much appreciated! :ghug: Even though some of us may have setbacks, please don't give up! It's well worth the struggle. It will get easier once you get into some good habits!

Pat, you're really doing great. Stay strong around those candy dishes!
Leslie, hope your tooth feels better soon.
Glad your pain's almost gone, Blondee.
Congrats on staying within your calorie limits, Artmaker.
Great words, Hynack! “My fitness needs to be a higher priority, not the last thing to do if i can squeeze it in.”
Kris, hope you feel better soon. I’m convinced that the fitter we become, the healthier we will be.
Toon, so glad BC’s keeping you reaching for your exercise goals.
Sweetpea, you can post your goals in this thread. What do you all think about in the future, NOT having a separate thread just for goals?
Hey Sweetpea and Sweet Jean. I see I’m in good company with my own almost daily rephases as of late.
Good for you on the pizza, Ginny.

Well, I’ve gotta head over to my journal, which I’ve been neglecting of late and then I really must get some work done tonight. Hope you all have a good night and a good tomorrow. Sue

Hi bootcamp buddies! I survived phase 1 and I'm cha chaing :dc into the next phase. I love to dance and it's a great time to celebrate. I used to celebrate accomplishments with huge meals, but I've established new habits since joining bootcamp so my little happy dance satisfies me just fine now. :D

Day 1 has been a good day. At work in our dining hall, I normally have to "create" my own salad. But today the salad special was a "California Chicken Salad." It was so good. What helps me too, is the fact that I don't like any salad dressings (or mustard, mayo, or katchup) so that saves me when it comes to counting calories. I eat my salads and sandwiches "dry".

I'm about to go to the gym. Afterwards I'll bathe, watch The Apprentice and be in bed by my goal time of 11pm :O Wow... unheard of for me. I usually go to bed at about 1am. More sleep will benefit me.

Good night all. Keep your heads up and strive forward!

Phase 2 Day 7 Start date Jan 15 ....

This is going to be a tough day, I think. :( But this is boot camp, I guess it isn't supposed to be easy. I woke up tired and I don't really want to do anything except go back to bed. However a 10-hour work day awaits me, with tons of stress I am sure, since there seems to be a lot of stress at my workplace every day. I don't want to rephase at this point, so I am going to try to hang on and accomplish my goals again today. Maybe once I get started it won't be so bad.

I have still not lost any weight. :c( I can't believe that -- I have changed what I eat so drastically with all the vegetables I am consuming. I am not sure what is going on, but for phase 3 I will need to make some adjustments of some kind.

Good morning campers.....Roll out and boogy!
You all are doing so well...even in rephasing, some of us..uhhh...multipul times, we are not hanging up the uniform, but dusting off, picking up our pack and forging ahead to the next bend. We too will reach the end of phase one and make our goals habits! I look forward to that day!

Hiya Vegas! Yum that salad sounds really good! My Mom and my co-worker both eat salad and sandwiches dry....I am a weenie I suppose.......I juice mine up! Tho I have reduced fat dressings and stuff. That helps some. One of my new favorites is a Rasberry Pecan vinigarette. YUM! Tho I haven't had salads much of late with the high prices. I'll be getting some today tho.........'cuz I'm wanting it!

I'm off to check in at the SA forum and get ready for work. Today..hooray...I am praying we FINISH the year end finances thing....this year we plan to do this junk monthly! We can stay on top of it better and cut our year end frenzy down to a 5 on the madness scale!

Hi everyone, just finished exercising. I only did it so I didn't have to rephase so I guess bootcamp is really working. It will force me to exercise again tomorrow so I get in my 5 days, I took off Sunday and Wednesday. I have one more day of Phase 1 then onto Phase 2. I am still deciding on what my goals will be. I still haven't lost anymore weight (I lost 10 lbs so far) but I will just continue doing what I am doing, I am sure it will come off eventually. We are suppose to get 12-16 inches of snow so I will be outside shoveling burning thoughs calories. Well stay warm and focused everyone and have a great weekend.

Hello ...

Well, I caught whatever my grandchildren had and I spent the day in bed. Children are little petri dishes ... most weekends I'm sniffling and coughing after my week with them (my husband and I are retired and we watch our daughter's two children, boy 3 almost 4, baby 7 months Mon - Thurs).

Anyway, DAY ONE has gone well for me food wise but HEY! I had no appetite at all! Does that count? LOL. I'm eating grapefruit and oranges, drinking water, taking cold tablets.

Sue, it's fine with me about posting goals here ... in fact, speaking of goals, this time around for Phase 1 I need to make an adjustment: no required outdoor walks until spring ... it's so cold here and thinking about getting my walks done is making me nervous. So here are my revised Phase 1 goals:

1. No sweets
2. Strength exercises 4 X a week
3. Count calories and stay within 1300 and 1600 cal per day

I saw that another challenge group has a "roll call" every so often so members can report how they're doing ... what do we think about doing that?

Have a good weekend everyone ... we're getting a "blizzard-type snow storm" here tomorrow. So if I feel better I will help shovel us out (I hear my husband laughing already! ).

ps :ribbon: ... another pound gone ... that's 3 since bootcamp started! pps ... after my sugary treats yesterday my mood this morning was disgusting ... another reason why I need to quit sweets permanently ....

Thank goodness this miserable day is over!!!!!! I am finally home from work...with a miserable headache...all stress related!
I am getting my goals done today but I am later than I wanted to be. Eating my last serving of fruit this late will make my FBS be high in the morning but I am lucky I got to eat it at all! I am learning alot from my food journal and I am sure I will learn much more when I begin to collect more detailed info later on. I am just doing a general accounting of what I am eating, how much (servings or serving size) and why I am eating. I should have done this eons ago.
Weigh day is 2 days off but I am feeling good about my chances of losing more weight. I feel like I have lost weight and my clothes are more comfortable. And my rings are starting to slide around on my finger.
Leslie, glad you are feeling better! Its been a while since I had to have a wisdom tooth out but I still remember how uncomfortable it was.
SweetJean, hope you are feeling better soon!
Susan (Artmaker), congrats on completing another day! I am so proud to be your buddy!
Sue (icpc), Hope your weekend is grand!
DJ, Sorry to see you go! Hope you come back soon. We love you!
CONGRATS to everyone who stopped eating when they wanted one more serving, exercised when they hated the thought of it, and continued reaching for their goals when they wanted to give up! You are ALL winners in my humble opinion!

Gonna go brush my teeth, do my skin care and crawl into bed....off work this weekend and I am gonna enjoy staying in on this cold snowy few days! Take care friends! See ya tomorrow!

On to Phase 2 Day 8

Happy Saturday!

Oh, Sweet Jean  "Children are little petrie dishes." What a hoot. I think you are right!

Hope all of you get through the winter weather ok. The ice and stuff has been taken out of our forecast but it is supposed to be cold and windy tomorrow.

I made it through day 7 of phase 2!!!! Thanks for your good thoughts. It really helped me this morning to be able to moan and complain a bit! Thanks for giving me room to vent.

This is what I learned today: it is good to have your goals in writing, so when you are in a state of low-motivation, you don't have to think! I have a notebook where I have my goals written down on one sheet, and then I made up a daily checklist for those goals. Each day I mark off my goals when I have completed them, with an extra notation where appropriate. It really helps me to stay focused and know what I need to do! I also have a journal section in that notebook. I bought Dr. Phil's daily calendar and each day I write my thoughts about the daily message.

Well, I need to get some rest, I still have to go to work for 5 hours tomorrow.

Love to all of you! I am so happy I found this place and joined bootcamp with the rest of you.

Hi All;

Sue I hope your work stress works out soon. It's the pits to have to put all that energy into worrying about work.

Day 7 phase 2 done. I met the goals but I had a day like Vicki and I'm cranky.Driving conditions were so bad it took an extra hour to get to and from work.
I have to go to Toronto for a work related conference next Sat and just realized today that I'll have to do two weeks work in one to clear the decks before I leave. This got me home really late and discovered my daughter had taken back her TV for the evening so couldn't do my exercise video as that TV has VCR. It's OK for my goals because I had said five days a week, but this is the first week I didn't do the exercise video all seven days. Then fitday put me a day ahead because I'm in a western time zone. So had to doctor up yesterday's imput instead.
Then I'm annoyed that restaurant sites don't put nutrient info on their sites. bsince I started the bbotcamp I've had grilled chicken salad at about four different places and can't find the info for any of them. So it's off to bed and hope tomorrow is a better day

Borrowing from Beth.... X-( SPIT!......Phase 1/Day 1...Saturday 1/22-Friday 2/4

Rephase this Texas Time bomb! I have been eating whatever wasn't glued down....and was it salads or veggies I had? Nope.....A couple of pieces of Birthday cake started me off. Our friend at the other office sent some for Sharon and I..well, Sharon was sick and had to go home, and the cake was begging me to eat it......oh....those were voices in my head?
I ate Sharon's piece first :o and we know I wouldn't waste mine! That's a "trick"..."oh I'm sorry..I ate YOURS by mistake!.....
AND.......so on...careless choices most of the day. BUT....today is a new day and I'm starting again!! I'll do like one of you said, and have a copy of my goals to check off each day. I have a copy in my day planner but there are probably three days a week it never gets opened! DAILY journalling will take care of that!
I will again.....put ME on project status!

Sue....I work at a Self Storage facility. It's family owned and combined they have three offices and 5 locations. I work with Sharon 3 days a week and I have weekends by myself. I really enjoy my job. I'll be there 6 years the 16th of February. Since Sharon had to go home yesterday, needless to say...the paperwork is not complete but I'll plug away and do what I can on it this weekend.

Gonna boogy and get my...MY paperwork in order for this challenge!! I'll be back!

Phase 2 Day 7

I am really at a turning opint now - I can either go down a bad pathof overeating and eat lots of bad stuff, or somehow find a way to keep going. I realize this and am not sure which way I will go yet - I hope the latter, but I really don't know. Yesterday I ate up all my WW exercise points for the week, (usually I don't eat the exercise points at all). If I eat 32 point on WW today (which should be doable if I were in a better frame of mind) I can complete phase 2 week 2 sucessfully, but if I don't than I will have to start over, and I am afraid that if I don't make it today I will just give up for awhile. Maybe this fear and not wanting to rephase will help me stay on track - but I'm not sure.

Here is another good website for WW points: www.dwlz.com They have the points for all sorts of restaurants here

Phase 2 Day 8 if it started the 15 like I did. I just exercised on the stationary bike and treadmill. I've been following Core. I lost 4.6lb this week during the first week of phase 2. So altogether 12 lb. Have a great day all.

Day 7 phase 1 ... I have lasted a week! Its a miracle! :lily: :not:

I have been doing really good ... and the scale this morning showed it. 257.2 .. officially the lowest I have been in 4 years, and the start into "virgin fat" ... weight that has not been lost before. The last successful diet I was on, 4 years ago, I got down to 257.5, and then was in a car accident that left me with a broken foot and whiplash, so my exercise plan went out the window, taking the good eating habits with it.

This time I will not be sidelined, even if something like that happens again. [*knock on wood, cross fingers, etc. *]

I lowered my stress a lot this week, by giving myself permission to skip school work until after the big job interview. (I am doing social work degree by correspondence). It was too much to be doing essays for school, as well as the powerpoint presentation that is part of the job interview, as well as all my other stuff of being Sea Cadet leader, mother and wife. Something had to give, or I knew I would resort to the stress eating and/or be biting everyone's heads off. I am also going to take some time off Cadets for the next two weeks ... also to keep the stress level / exhaustion level to a minimum. I know when I am stressed/tired I eat, and it is never good stuff, or normal amounts. I hope knowing this, and being proactive about it will help me make it through this period until the interview, and still keep to my goals.

Have a great weekend everyone!

First week of Phase 2 successfully completed....... I am so excited to have gotten this far without re-phasing. It has been close a few times.....I have eeked through by the skin of my teeth but I have learned valuable lessons about planning. Life happens and I have to be ready to side step those catastrophies and get on with a successful lifeplan. I am so thankfully for Beth and Sue and having this Bootcamp to learn from! This is the greatest!!!!!!!
My bloodsugars have been climbing higher each day this week. Haven't been successful with taking my meds everyday.....couldn't afford them....but I am back on track now! All meds present and accounted for and will be taken as ordered!
I have eaten my fruits and veggies every day....
I have faithfully kept my journal everyday....and been very honest about my entries there......learning bunches from re-reading that!!!!!
I am doing great with my skin care duties. Everyday!!!!! My face is getting so smooth and clear....

Lastly, doing something nice for me......
Last week.....extra naps....facials, etc.
This week.....bought stuff for me today! More facial stuff, a DVD I have been wanting, new shoes, and lots of fruits and veggies......I was almost out...ooops!!!!! I came home from Walmarts and said, "Honey, I wasted some money at Walmarts today". He kissed me and said it was about time I bought something I wanted. He is so cool!
Gotta get to work now and clean up my kitchen....talk at ya later....

Have a wonderful, warm SUNDAY!!!!!

Blessings:spring:

This is my last day of phase 1 now its off to phase 2. Today went well. Alot of shoveling snow and it is still falling. I lost another 1.5 lbs :D . Now I really have to decide what my goals will be for phase 2. I think I have to sleep on it. I want to make sure they are doable. I had to rephase twice in phase 1. I have a routine down now with my exercise and food planning but you never know what may come up to screw it all up. So I can't make a goal of say "exercise 7 days a week" when I know something is bound to come up. But I don't want to make it too easy also. So I have to think about it over night, by tomorrow morning I will have figured it out.

Well have a good Sunday and keep warm. Arizona is really starting to look good.

I completed day 7 phase 2, and can start week 2 of phase 2 tomorrow. I just barely managed to get by.

I'm so thankful for this bootcamp - the thought of having to rephase really helps me stay on track. Also, I realize that usually while I have dieted for a few days in a row in the past, usually I then have one bad day, for ex. several good days, one or two bad days, and for the week I'm down a tiny bit. Week after week, I have done this, then I go off completely and regain more than I lose. I am learning from bootcamp that perhpas what really matters is day after day not ever going so crazy with food that I can't finish the week out, the entire week that is, within WW points. Sounds impossible for me - but I'll hope

Anyway, I got through the day and though it was quite hard I'm glad I did it.

I’m happy for you Jersey. We got 13 inches of snow and let me tell anyone who doesn’t have the pleasure of the experience, it IS good exercise to shovel, and much easier for me to do now. I used to hate shoveling so bad before. Kinda fun now (in a weird sort of way!) What wasn’t fun was getting stuck in an embankment today, but that a ‘nother story!

Yeh, you guys, when you set your goals, try to keep in mind what the next two weeks may hold for you (icy sidewalks, possible sickness, exceptionally busy workplace) and then just plan for them, like “I’m going to exercise 4-6 days a week” instead of “I’m going to Curves every day of the week.” Don’t get me wrong, keep your goals challenging and then do everything in your power to stay with your goals, but we have to remember that life happens. Now, what we don’t want to do is let life take us completely off track from our healthy eating goals, we just need to be able to move with the flow of life for the rest of our lives. You guys have been doing really good, just thought I’d throw that in.

Sweet Jean, I don’t get into the other forums much. How does the roll call work, and does it work well? I’m open to anything that will help us succeed. I hope you get better soon.

Calorieking.com is a pretty decent place for checking nutrient counts. If it doesn’t have your particular restaurant or food, just estimate. Or, if ya’ll are feeling really ambitious, we can write/email the restaurants that don’t provide nutrient info and request that they do so. Enough people request it, and it will become the norm.

To anyone who’s been having a problem with overeating, I’m right there with you. Can’t seem to stop and have seemingly lost the desire to do so. I know what I’m doing. I’m avoiding, I’m escaping. Have seen this pattern before. I don’t want to do it, I know what I’m doing, I even know what to do (theory wise) to stop it. Yet I keep going back for more. It’s just been a tough week, tougher than usual. Everything coming at once, a little too fast. But boy oh boy, is this going to be a good learning period. And I am learning things, good things. In fact, I thought I had found the “click” last night, but today was another story. One of the things I did learn last night, at least for me, is when I need motivation or am stumbling, that I can’t necessarily give myself a pep talk or plead with myself or even get angry. I have to understand what I’m doing, it has to become an internalized realization, something that “clicks” with me. Then my whole mindset changes and everything becomes “easy” or relatively so and sometimes for a good long time. Until the next time when I’ve got something else major to learn, and it starts all over. But as I struggle, I learn, I learn to face my issues head on, and as I deal with it, I change, I move on. Sometimes the struggling is tough. For me, it’s necessary and it’s worth it. Anyhow, it’s time for me to wake up, gather my courage, gain understanding, do whatever is necessary to change, sometimes in tiny steps, sometimes in leaps and bounds.

I’m really happy for you Hynack. I’m really happy for you and I’m glad you know how to reduce the stress. That’s a big one.

Vickie, life sounds really good for you right now. I know you have the health things going on, but you met your goals, you’re taking care of your SELF and your husband loves you. That’s pretty darn good.

I’m proud of you, Blanche. That was a good realization. Sue

Thanks everyone for the links for checking food counts. I remembered when you gave them to me that I had the calorieking one and the one Dottie does in my favorites a while ago, but had to get my computer reconfigured and lost them.

Far less cranky today, I think it's because I didn't have to transverse the city several times in horrible driving conditions like yesterday.

Day 8, phase 2 done
did my exercise video ; put all food in at fitday and didn't have to worry about candy dishes at work because it's the weekend.

Oh, I lost one pound this week.

I told Beth when I started I wouldn't be able to do phase 3. I have to go to Toronto for a conference for a week beginning next Saturday. I have to do this every year for the last week in Jan. It's awful in that it's sessions from early morning til late, all sitting and very inappropriate food served. So my goal will be not to gain.

I will finish phase 2 and the
