View Full Version : Same weight but not the same size clothes smallfri 02-08-05, 10:06 AM Is this a problem for anyone else. Its sort of frustrating. It takes your body time to adjust to a considerable weight loss. You might have loose skin that hasn't yet stretched back to its original size. In my case, after more than 40lbs-- I have lots of loose skin on my arms (at 34). Based on my age and skin type I have a feeling that in a couple of months that skin will disappear (because I can already tell I had more of it before that's shrunk). For me, I'm giving my skin about a year to get back to where it should be. That seems odd-- but I'm still loosing and I see this as a gradual process not an instant fix. Also, from what I've read... its reasonable to have this problem and the older one is the longer it takes for your skin to shrink (and no, excercise will not fix this problem really). JessicaL2005 02-08-05, 02:15 PM When I got down to 190, where I was at before I was pregnant with my son, my old clothes didn't fit in the right places either, I'm still carrying more weight around my stomach and hips than before, because clothes used to be loose around my stomach and would fit more snug around my thighs and my chest, now since I've gone down to a 10 but the clothes are pretty loose everywhere else but my waist, and I've gone from a 20 to a 10, but the waist is the last place everytime that I lose weight from. I can wear an 8 and it fits right everywhere else, but around my waist I feel like I'm being severed! JessicaL2005 02-08-05, 02:19 PM Try Yoga, I've found that its a great exercise because it works everything, and if you watch a class where most of the people have been doing yoga for a long time, you'll notice that they seem to be in perfect proportion, its very good for a streamlined body. I don't know, maybe it redistributes all your weight or something? elsie 02-08-05, 07:09 PM I am the same weight, and thinner, but in my case it is a matter of muscle tone. Since I have way more muscle now, I look much thinner at the same weight. The opposite might be true for you, maybe you are hte same weight with not as much muscle tone, or maybe the clothes shrank :) oggie 02-08-05, 10:37 PM Having muscles always helps scuplt what you have-- but what I was trying to get at is that it does really depend on how fast you loose weight. If you've been fat for 10 years, its silly to expect your skin to snap back into a smaller shape within 2-3 months. 6 months to 2 years is a better estimate. Excercise will tone the underlying muscles, but often the skin will stay loose and occupy extra space for some time. It all depends on body type, age, and skin tone. My experiment based on this knowledge and my own underlying history of battling cellulite even as a teenager-- is that I'm trying to diet down to what I think for me is lean before I really tone up. Its in part my personal experiment, but the research behind it is that its nearly impossible to loose the fat under your skin after a certain age-- this is why its tough for ladies who've had kids to loose belly fat. Apparently after 35, loosing belly fat is REALLY TOUGH unless you get very lean, and then very strong. If you get strong first, the fat under your skin will stubbornly stay put for the most part = cellulite. A lot of people think that liposuction or surgical body sculpting is the solution to getting the shape they want. From what I've been reading, time, diet, and eventually excercise can do the same thing... with far less expense... but you need to do it in the right order, and not expect changes immediately. smallfri 02-10-05, 10:26 AM thanks everyone that helps to know its just not me. Ogge, I agree with you. I am trying to lose the weight and then tone up and that seems to be working best for me right now. I have tried doing everything at one time, toning, eating, losing weight, then it usually last about two weeks and I am worse off then when I started. But this time I am getting the eating under control, I still walk which helps but I will work on toning when I am at a comfortable weight again. That helped me a long, long, long, long time ago so I am hoping it will help me again. oggie 02-10-05, 10:55 PM Walking is just great! I walk too! ;-) |
