I found this cool article that discusses women's clothing sizes, why they are so frustrating, and why men don't (usually) experience the same thing.

I've got an experiment in the works.
In storage, I have some clothes I wore 20 years ago when I was in high school. They are sized from 10-12 (I lost some weight at one point before I started piling it on). Once I get down to my goal weight, which is what I weighed when I wore a size 10, I'm going to see how well those clothes fit. I'm pretty sure that what used to be a size 10 is now being called a size 8 or so. 8-|
Yes... I weigh about the same now as when I got married. I'm wearing 8s now, but I'm pretty sure my wedding dress was a 10 or even a 12. It's amazing.
Although in fairness, I'm much more toned and fit now than I was back then. This is the first time in my life I've been an exerciser!

I'm going to laugh, though, if I can fit into my parachute pants again!
Gotta love the fashion of the 80's.
Good article Lisrey.

This does raise some interesting points. I put a number in as a goal, but I don't care about it that much. My real goals are little things - like being able to put my socks on without huffing and puffing. Or going dancing and having a good time instead of feeling too out of breath to enjoy it (or just not going because of being afraid and embarrassed). Or walking to lunch with the gang in my office without arriving dead last and out of breath. Maybe that's my male side :)
Now, I'm not denying, the numbers are great, but I actually enjoy the feeling I get when I get out of bed in the morning. I feel lighter, and freer and able to move. It's wonderful!

The article is right about a size shift (towards making sizes roomier) for sure in clothing. I know that too because I still have all my skinny highschool clothes, and most of them don't fit (yet at least).
In highschool I was wearing a size 14 most of the time-- so I have a lot of good clothes left that are that size, and they're still too small... though my jeans from college all fit.
But from shopping around the city these days I know I can fit into a 14 now-- at least I can in Gap, Old Navy, Liz Claiborne, Jones New York, and a couple other brands. And to my surprise I'm now a size Large in Gap stuff most of the time-- which is just bizarre because that means the Gap XL, must be for 16-18-20 instead of a 14-16, like I would expect.
So its interesting.
