Hi Blanche, spa is a totally fictional place, yet very real for the benefits received from it! I wanted to add to last night’s post that spa is not taking the place of BC, it’s working hand in hand with it for a week, as a break and a treat. You guys can either do spa in addition to BC or you can put BC on hold without losing your spot in your phase, or you can just do BC alone. It’s yours to make of it whatever you want.

When Jean and I started (towards the end April), we wrote out a list of things we wanted to do and get from this exclusive, expensive spa (the idea was that we’d pretend we were really at a ritzy spa and eat only spa-type food and exercise like maniacs at a fat farm, and take care of our SELVES through things like relaxing music and motivational tapes). The “benefits” we started off with were similar to our goals on BC but they were adjusted over time as we saw what worked for us personally and what didn’t so far as keeping us motivated, keeping us on track with a passion to succeed. As time passed, it kind of evolved where it just became a part of our normal lives. For instance, when I got into my cleaning frenzy, I didn’t let it take me away from spa, I just “pretended” that since I couldn’t afford yet another week at spa, that they had agreed to let me work for my keep, and spa kept going strong, along with the real benefits I was receiving from it. All those classes I went to? I pretended they were classes offered by spa. Jean and I agreed to share with each other every day how we had done and the things we had learned (through the help of our director).

My list of current BC goals have been the result of spa and the same ones I have AT spa (I figured I might as well combine them so I didn’t have two separate things going on). I feel the major reason I have been able to meet these goals now for three and a half phases is because of spa. These have really changed over time.
*Not go over a daily average of 1800 calories during a one-week period
*Drink min. 64 oz fluid daily, 32 of which must be pure water
*Exercise a minimum of 180 min/wk
*Listen to tapes or do stress relieving action daily or as needed
*Keep a positive attitude (no more than 5 minutes per day of fears/doubts/depression)
*Post daily in boot camp, personal journal, and/or other's journals (PMs/emails included)
*Keep my house straightened average 6 days/wk
*Do paperwork average 6 days/wk
These have been working so well that I plan to add these during BC’s spa week:
*Start working on getting more sleep
*Start working on balancing my chakras

You just might want to start thinking in the back of your mind what you want to do/get out of spa, but remember, you can change yours totally from BC and whatever you come up with can be changed whenever you want. Maybe you want to have a nice bubble bath to relax this week or go out to get a real massage or a haircut. Or maybe you want to take a brisk walk through the park and pretend you're on spa grounds. Or maybe you want to read a book about self-improvement and share with the other spa members what you learned in your "seminar." Maybe you want to eat super good and healthy foods for a few days. Maybe you want to work out this week like you never have before. These are just a few ideas. I'm sure you will come up with something that's just right for you. Ask your director for some ideas. She always has good suggestions...

I’ll write more tomorrow or the next day about spa.

***

From Post 327 (6/8/05): You guys, I am getting so excited about spa starting on Monday! Spa is a really good place to be. It’s such a positive place and if you don’t meet your goals, you don’t get kicked out! Your own personal director will sit down with you and help you decide how you want your own experience to go, and it can be anything you want. If you stumble and fall, your director’s right there to help you up. She’s wise, she’s understanding, she always knows just the right thing to say, always has good suggestions. She doesn’t put pressure on you, she let’s you learn and adapt as you go. But she’s also straight with you too. I must admit, I’ve had a couple of raised eyebrows and even had a stern talking to a time or two. So, who is this wonderful director? It’s YOU, it’s your wise you, your separated you, the one who can look at the big picture and see things you’re too close to, to see yourself.

Spa is one of these $3,500 a week places that offers everything a high-end spa does, like an exercise program, healthy eating, self-improvement classes, pampering treatments, and fun activities too like mountain climbing, hiking, biking, swimming and just sitting around at the end of the day sharing your day and things the director shared with you that day with the other spa members. How can you afford such a place? Well, I talked to my director and told her about all of you and how hard you have been working (most of you since JANUARY for Pete’s sake!) and she was so impressed with you guys that she said you could all come for free for a week as a reward to you. She’s hoping you’ll like it so much and see such an improvement that you’ll want to come back. You guys are getting a deal, because Jean and I didn’t get in on such a good deal, in fact, we ended up having to work for our keep (remember when I was doing all my deep cleaning? Well, that’s what was happening!)

Well, you guys will now either think I’ve gone completely off into fantasyland or I have a good idea here (actually it was Sweet Jean’s original idea—THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU JEAN!!!!!!!!!!) All I know is that this WORKED for me. It took me from daily binges to where I am now. That has to count for something, lol!

From Post 319 (6/7/05): We're awful quiet here lately. Jean and I did a "week at a spa" together several weeks back that brought me out of my funk. We would like to include you guys in our spa starting on Monday, June 13. I can only hope it works as well for you guys as it did for us. More details to come later! Sue

Hi Bootcampers ...

Sue has done an excellent job describing our imaginary SPA. It became an anchor for us that we held on to as we tried out different activities. At first we did imagine it to be a strict atmosphere of diet meals and lots of exercise but as the SPA developed we found it was more of a healing place where we could rest and comfort ourselves. The SPA was where we had permission to stop, relax, and recharge.

We were allowed to pick whatever activities we wanted to pursue ... for instance:

*I added listening to a favorite CD of music every day. My CDs get dusty waiting for me to play them ... now at the SPA they became a pleasurable daily activity.

*Sue had a "Theater Day" at her SPA as a reward for all her hard work that week. Sue's weekend away recently was also a SPA reward ... the Director gave her permission to go and "have a good time."

*I had a long list of weight resistance exercises I was going to do at the SPA ... but I realized I didn't WANT to do them yet. At the SPA I was told that was perfectly OK. We were there to learn more about ourselves and what we liked and didn't like.

*Sue's Director told her that everyone is to move at their own pace. She said the SPA isn't just a weight loss place, but a whole mind and body place.

The SPA became a place that was real to us and it helped us look at ourselves from a different point of view.

Instead of following a hateful diet program to lose weight ... gritting our teeth while we're doing it ... we asked ourselves what would make us feel really good. This was a new idea to us ... instead of enduring our routines, why not make them pleasant and irresistible.

That's what happened for us at the SPA and Sue and I want to share that experience with everyone here at Boot Camp. We hope you'll come and have some fun with us. Plan seven days as if you were away at a SPA where you would eat well, workout as often as you'd like (OR NOT), and enjoy total concentration on yourself and your needs. This just might be the moment for you to stop and do something you've wanted to do for a long time ... but couldn't find the time. At the SPA you are encouraged to enjoy yourself as you get healthier and happier.

Ladies this sounds soooooooooooo tempting and your both just going to beat me with a wet noodle when you read this lol

But I don't have time for the SPA 8-|

Really I sat here and I tried to come up with just a few things for a few minutes of me time even just here and there and I can't think of one thing - unless it involves my grandchildren or posting here at DT - mostly I just work - :help:

Hi Beth ...

Beating you with a wet noodle is the last thing I'd want to do ... BUT ... now that you mention it ... no, only kidding.

OK, so all you do is work.

That's just our point. You need to break out of that prison. NOW. We're offering you 7 days to look at your life differently. Instead of working, mentally and physically, 24/7, take time for Beth everyday no matter what.

Here are some "Beth" ideas:

*Before falling asleep at night, step outside and look up at the stars.

*Make it a point to put on extra makeup every day during SPA week.

*Treat yourself to a midweek special dessert with one of your meals: strawberries and cream? Have your husband join you for this treat.

*While you're at one of your jobs, think through a fantasy of how you'd like your life to be 10 years from now. Be lavish with your thinking ... have no limits in your fantasy.

*Write a note to an old friend.

OK ... I could go on and on. LOL ... ideas are one thing I have a ready supply of. The whole reason for SPA is to make you stop and look at your everyday routine and break into it. Your everyday routine needs some kind of change so the new "Beth" can break out.

Beth, come play with us.

This idea seems so "strange' - "weird" for me - I don't mean for anyone else ! Just for me...

I will think on it this weekend :)

Thanks for the ideas sweetjean - I see now that the SPA doesn't have to be real long time involved wise.

Strange? Yeah, probably. But imagination is a powerful thing and a good tool to use at times. Sometimes it's good for us to solve situations not just in the typical ways but by using creative means as well.

I bet you guys can see now how Jean helped to make spa work so well. Her director is a very wise woman! "The SPA became a place that was real to us and it helped us look at ourselves from a different point of view. Instead of following a hateful diet program to lose weight ... gritting our teeth while we're doing it ... we asked ourselves what would make us feel really good. This was a new idea to us ... instead of enduring our routines, why not make them pleasant and irresistible." Just wait, you'll see.

Good morning! My director wanted to welcome all of you to the first day of your week at the spa and encourage you to take full advantage of it’s services. Exceptionally tasty and healthy meals are offered to members whenever they are hungry (umm, let me fill you in on a little secret, room checks ARE made and candy, chips, and the like are confiscated if they are found!). She also wanted me to tell you the exercise room is always open and there are special non-weight-bearing machines available for those who are nursing injuries. For those feeling adventuresome, there are hiking and bike trails, mountain and rock climbing, and beautiful scenic walking routes. You can cool off in the Olympic size pool, where lap swimming is available as well as water aerobics classes. Check the schedule for other organized exercise classes as well.

But it’s not all work and seriousness at the spa. Sign up now for facials, pedicures, manicures, makeovers, haircuts, massages, aromatherapy treatments, mud baths, or luxuriate in the whirlpool with a glass of an ice-cold nonalcoholic drink. There are innumerable classes also being offered throughout the day on any subject that might be of interest to you. The spa focuses on a total mind, body, and spirit experience.

Since working regular jobs will be necessary for some of us, we are allowed to leave the spa for several hours for that purpose. Everyone is encouraged to keep a positive attitude and give a full day’s work for a full day’s pay. Also, everyone is expected to keep their suites clean. There is a special time set aside for families so that no one feels left out or neglected.

Your own personal directors would like to sit down with you for a little while today to help you map out your week. Share with her what you want and need and I'm sure you'll come up with a plan that's just right for you.

Come on down to the lounge and meet your friends and enjoy laughter and sharing. Every member is encouraged to share their day, their successes, their challenges, what they’ve learned. So, enjoy your free week, my friends, and try to get as much out of it as you can.

Love to all, Sue

Well, the director had me working in the office most of the day (the pay and benefits are great!), but I got to play around a little bit today too. I do enjoy playing! There’ll be more playing tonight as I’m meeting one of my friends at the spa’s bike shop and we’re going to get a bike fitted for me so we can go biking on the trails together on Friday. Spa’s food was healthy, although a little on the bland side, but the director simply reminded me how sodium affects me so I’m glad I chose the meals I did. Tonight will find me in the exercise center and then heading to bed early so I can wake up bright and early to join Bren for coffee and then be ready to enjoy another good day at the spa. Hope everyone else had a good day as well. Sue

Today was a rest day for me at SPA. I slept late, did very little all day, relaxed and stayed out of the heat. The Director told me it was a free day and to just settle in at the SPA. Tomorrow my daily walks will start along with a lighter menu. I will be weighed in the morning and I'm hoping once again to see 170 on the scale (for the past 6 weeks my weight climbed up to 174).

I hope all our SPA newbies enjoyed themselves today and are looking forward to the rest of their week.

Good morning everyone! Hello eball.......come on in! Good morning Jean and Sue! What a beautiful day this will be!!

I am headed into Day two, and sweetjean, I used yesterday to settle in too!..and unpack my bag , getting geared for the time ahead. I was running late and missed breakfast and after meeting with the director, was given a menu to browse for the days ahead and a schedule for meals!
She told me about the sodium thing too, and how important it is to my health to avoid excess.......in many areas!
We had popcorn and a movie last night and since I hadn't had either in a very long time, really enjoyed both! The kitchen closes at 7:30, so if ya want that snack..be quick!

Sue! It was good to see you this morning! The birds were chirping, the stray kitty came to the door and we fed her...(You'll get caught for sure!) It was a relaxing time and very enjoyable! Thanks for stopping by! Let's do it again!
I made a run (earning my keep) to the store for the cook, to pick up last minute items for this week's meals.
Our menu includes nice salads w/grilled chicken, Stir frys with lots of veggies and jasmine rice. My favorite cottage cheese.the large curd.....that I can't find just anywhere!...with SF jello and fruit.....AND.....a special chef is coming in Saturday to prepare steaks on the grill! (he looks a LOT like my brother!) I look forward to that!

A personal trainer is meeting with me this morning to show me some moves and give me some inspiration to go with the "perspiration!".....there's a great little gym on property! I look forward to the pool time with the crew too!
AND....since my director went to the store with me, she suggested a stop at the Park coming home.......for a WALK! It was spontaneous and such fun and boy did I need a bandana!..NTS...keep some in truck! Brooks and Dunn were playing for our entertainment....we saw a couple of lovely little dogs and their mama, we had to talk to, and beautiful pidgeons and other birds a lady was tossing food out for!

So....I'm off and ready for what unfolds this day! have a lblessed one everyone!!

hey guys this is a brilliant idea. i had to laugh as i have been looking at brochures because i decided what i need right now is a spa!!!

i made this post yday and it is spot on for this...
heard something interesting today on my Tony Robbins tape re dieting he says rather than just asking how you can get slim/lose weight he says ask..
"how can i lose weight and ENJOY the process"
that way you stay motivated because you're enjoying it

so you are doing exactly that. really really clever!

Hello my friend!!!
Isn't this a novel idea!! I am thoroughly enjoying myself and having fun! This eveing I'm doing a cleansing ritual.......after having had a nap during my personal rest period. I'm not hungry and will use the 4 hours before bed time for reading/writing/releasing!
I want my "suite" to be a calm, relaxing sanctuary and will put in some time to make it so. I have some GOOD iced tea and am having some now. I want to get some more water in too, in the time left in the day.

Come join us!!

OMG you are organised - that puts me to shame LOL

well i have done 20 mins on my essay this morning and have more to do so that will be top of the list. i've already gone for my walk today so i have no excuses not to be writing

i like the cleansing ritual. i think my mind needs a cleanse. i know we detox our bodies but my mind needs to be cleared out, have all the little corners dusted, get rid of the cobwebs and all the worries and other spiders hovering and start all over again. wonder if that's possible?

doh! slaps head - i guess that's what meditation is designed for. hmmm still working on that one

My cleansing includes the mind as well! That's where our trouble most often starts! With our thinking! So it's a mind/body/spirit/enviromental thing!! I am finally getting into the ACTION part of my plan! I was good with the planning stages, but had trouble with carry through! I was the idea lady..waiting for the Action Man to show up! My participation in BC and branching out here at DT in general is giving me a grand boost! And thanks to Nebraska passing on the FLY Lady's info! I am loving it!

I think I have the world's best spa director! She told me I have been being much too harsh on myself and that I really needed a break. So, although I must continue with my Curves workouts, drink my water, and eat healthy foods, she has exempted me from counting and weighing and keeping logs of everything while I am in spa. She wants me to recuperate from all the stress and anxiety I have been under and prepare myself for the wonderful activities I have planned in the next six weeks.

Yesterday she let me lay down and take a half hour nap! :D

She has allowed me to work on rubber stamping projects and she has even let me spend a lot of time working on a decoupage box I am making. Today she told me it would be a good thing to get out my sewing machine and finally do the mending that has been on my kitchen table. So I took my $8 worth of thread, buttons, and appliques and fixed my $2 thrift store shirt with the colorful kitty decorations on it. It looks wonderful! I am so happy that now I can wear it and that nagging job is off my kitchen table.

I sure hope she has figured out how I am to manage my stress level when I go back to work tomorrow! :(

Oh Nebraska! What a delight to read your post and I am SO glad you have a kind, gentle, understanding director! Send her before you to prepare the way tomorrow at work...breathe well and count the time 'till you re-enter sanctuary!

Oh You too, make me laugh!! The $8.00 worth of goodies to repair a $ 2.00 shirt! I am guilty of doing that ..almost..dont'cha love Goodwill and the like!?...my booboo was in paying to have a couple of shirts (tunics) shortened...that I didn't really like, after the work was done!! LOL! I am really short (5'1") and I don't like 'em TOO long or TOO short....we won't talk about how much I spent as that was then, this is now and I am releasing guilt over past mistakes..financial blunders and outright SIN!
How free-ing it all is! I am having a wonderful time!

Hmmmmmmm. . .spa sounds nice. I may need to work on my imagination a bit so that I can go there for a week. Right now I am barely hanging on by a thread, and not ready for anything new - but well . . . it would be nice to be lying on a beach lounge chair next to the pool, feeling the warm sun as in shines down through the palm tree leaves as they stir in the gentle breeze coming off the nearby ocean, reading a romance novel. (Maybe I need a vacation too.) . . . maybe I can find a way to go to spa for just a few minutes after all and relax - think they'll let me in short term?

Sue

You guys are like the wind beneath my sails!

What a glorious day at the spa it was! First, the director asked me to look into buying new furniture for my suite and I think I found the perfect piece! She then put me to work in the office again today (hey, where's those complaint forms anyhow?). After work, she had me take my car back down to the shop because my brakes were still squeeling and that's when the essence of spa shone through. Instead of reading my chakras book like I had planned, I decided to take a mixture between a brisk walk and a stroll down the city streets and look at all the shops. I felt like I was on vacation because I had never taken the time to walk down those streets and the shops are all so interesting. I went into a pet fish store (they had a fung shui class at spa a few weeks ago that talked about the benefits of water, and what goes great with water? Yep, fish! I'm now thinking about getting some fish.). I also went into two DVD stores looking for titles to add to my collection. Then, I went into an authentic African store that had statues and masks and oils (I smell like honeysuckle now, lol). It was all very interesting. As I was walking, I noticed a new mediterranean/persion restaurant that offered outdoor dining that I knew I needed to go to tonight. Right about that time, I noticed I had less than 10 minutes to get back to the car shop before they closed so I did some serious speed walking, UP HILL, lol. When I got there, they said they never did hear the brakes squeeling (go figure, huh?), but they fixed everything again anyhow and it seems to be driving nice and quiet now! So, I called my son (yes, they do allow families to visit) and his GF to come down and join me for a drink at that restaurant (shhh, don't tell my director, because there WAS alchol in the caramel/apple martini, umm, but there wasn't any calories in it though!). Even so, I know my director's going to be pleased with me because I chose to walk instead of sit, I noticed the world around me and found it very interesting, I enjoyed some family time. Oh almost forgot, and this really added just the perfect touch to my day, as I was walking along, I found a perfectly cut beautiful yellow/orange daisy just lying there on the sidewalk. It was meant for me! Of course, I picked it up and carried it around with me. Felt like a flower child! And felt very special. That's what spa does for me. Oops, one more thing (boy I have so much to share with my friends tonight!) as I was window shopping I noticed how dry my hair looked. Thank goodness they have an excellent salon here. I'll need to set up an appointment for a serious treatment and a haircut.

So glad you guys came to spa! See ya'll tomorrow! Sue

Oh Sue! What a marvelous day you've had!! Isn't this FUN! OH caramel apple martini! How delightful! I'm sure your director will make allowances for such a small indulgence!

I too have had a soothing, relaxing day. The meeting with my personal trainer went well. We worked out a schedule for me and I did some work while watching TV in the game room. That's going to work well! The pool was closed today so perhaps tomorrow, weather permitting, I'll get some time in it.
OH I love being near the water! My director reminded me of the lovely park downtown, with benches, waterfall and lovely trees and plants around. She suggested we visit there tomorrow for some outdoor time, reading and perhaps walking....as you did!.....and exploring the city! We'll go early, to get a good parking spot!
We have a pet store here with lovely fish and they have benches for sitting and peaceful music to listen to as you watch them! I'll get store hours, as that's something I could fit in after a work day!

I'm off to help clean the kitchen and visit with the cook.......I enjoy her company! LOL!
Nighty night!

Hello SPA LADIES ...

It is wonderful to read your posts! I'm so glad you're all enjoying your time here.

The heat has been so oppressive that I feel like I'm hiding in the house. I go out as early as possible every morning for a walk but after that outing, it's back inside for me!

Today I played all day with the kids. I helped the baby with different toys and let her play her little piano. Then in the afternoon my grandson and I were on the Playstation (Jimmy Neutron and the Attack of the Twonkies). When the baby went for her nap he and I really got into our gaming. My husband went to the grocery store and came home with CANDY!! My grandson and I sampled every bit of it! Oh my ... my Director was in a meeting and didn't know what I was up to. Later I told her about my afternoon but she just smiled. Then she said, "Did you have fun?" I said "YES," but that I felt guilty about the candy. She said next time have the fun but not the candy. Ummmmmm.

Sue, Bren, Nebraska, Sweetpea, Blanche ... you're all a joy to behold. Blanche ... don't hesitate to do this part-time. Everything counts. Bren, I think you take the prize for The Most Adventurous "First-Timer." Your organization is outstanding.

And as a note to everyone ... it doesn't matter how small a step you take ... the idea is to take that FIRST STEP in caring for and enjoying yourself.

I'm heading to bed now and I'm looking forward to another FUN SPA DAY tomorrow. :o

Oh thank you sweetJean for the title and kind words!! I am having SO much fun and am SO glad you and Sue worked something up like this!!! This was the boost I've been needing! what fun you had too!

I got called into the directors office early this morning! In entertaining the cook last night during clean up.....we had a baked tater and a sandwich...after hours! The director reminded me of kitchen hours and suggested I let cook take care of clean-up...after dinner. It's part of her job after all. She said I can choose from the activities chart next time (today) and avoid the kitchen.......as we know that's a trouble spot for me.

I've been out already with my coffee and oooops...Sue.....kitty let me pet her this morning! I'd fed her (yes she comes right to my door now) and she let me love on her while she ate.....then she came down for more loving as I was coming in! She wanted to come in but I couldn't let her and double oops...we now have a new kitty! A black one with white chest..very respectful..sat to the side while yellow kitty ate, and then he had what she left...like two little pieces. I am in TROUBLE! I have no idea if they are boy/girl cats.....I'll just call 'em that! Yellow kitty is very loving, wallowed at my feet and marked me as her human. I want 'em! :o

Today, the director has me working in my suite and doing filing but there will be much fun had today as well. I only have to work 30 minutes at a time and will have regular breaks, she said. The personal trainer will be back today as well. I have a full and "Joy-full" schedule for today and will enjoy it all!

Have a marvelous blessed day fellow Spa-goers!

My director had a terrible time with me today! As soon as I walked in the door to my workplace my back began to tighten with tension. She told me to breathe, just breathe deeply and I tried but it didn't help a lot. I kept trying to do the breathing thing all day but it was an exhausting struggle. Finally, in desperation, she reminded me that my vacation time is coming soon as when I get my pay for that vacation time, I will be much freer to consider a job change. That was good, too, but it seems so far off right now. :( I just don't know how she kept her patience with me! At least I went to Curves and worked out a bunch of the tension after work.

Well, now my director tells me that I better get to bed early tonight or tomorrow won't be any better. She really wants me to learn to come home from work and relax more.

Hi everyone ...

There is much cause for celebration today since the intense HEAT broke! What a profound relief! By this afternoon there was a breeze and tonight they say the temps will be around 65 degrees. What a wild ride NJ weather can be!

I dilly-dallied in bed this morning ... no one seemed to mind. I missed my early morning walk but was rewarded with a later walk WITH THE BABY GIRL. I got to push her in her stroller for more than a half hour ... she thought it was just fine at first but after a while she wasn't that excited. She didn't complain so I just kept pushing. My other little charge went to work with his Mom for the morning. When he came home he had a box of magic tricks with him including a black mustache that he said he grew. He looked so cute! Then of course he had to try all his tricks "on" me. He was home for only 10 minutes before the house was a wreck! I'll be so glad when his mother's school closes for the summer ... lol (only two more weeks).

So that was my day. I was very tired after babysitting today. Tomorrow is my last work day for the week and I'm looking forward to the weekend. I'll get more adventurous with my SPA activities then.

Bren ... your two furry visitors sound sooooo nice. My husband has cultivated a "moocher" who comes every morning for a good meal but he is NOT friendly. He just eats and runs. We want him around our house to discourage the bunnies in our neighborhood ... they are NOT good for the garden. When we had our own cats we had no trouble with pests of any kind ... now we have trouble every now and then. But our morning guest is so UNFRIENDLY ... a real pyscho case.

OK ... SPA LADIES ... see you tomorrow. Enjoy your evenings. :o

Hello all my fellow spa partners! I wish you all had been able to come to my suite last night as I ended up having an impromptu party. My son decided to bring two of their friends over last night so we all hung out for about an hour and laughed so hard! Now, THAT was fun! I'm glad they have nice friends. I then hung out with some friends of my own late into the night and ended up with slightly less than 5 hours of sleep. My director took one look at my dragging butt and all but ordered me to bed early tonight. She wasn't upset (mostly because she knew that I had made a couple of really important breakthroughs last night), she just wants me to really concentrate on getting enough rest.

Also, I burned nearly 600 calories in that wonderful exercise room they have and was even able to read one and a half chapters of my chakras book while I worked out. My director advised me not to lift the weights as heavy as I have been because she noticed that I was building muscles rather than toning them. I thought the workout wouldn't be "hard" enough for me but it was actually just perfect. She always is right!

I was going to walk past the boot camp bunkers down the road before I head off to bed so they don't send their troops out looking for me, but I'm already typing with my eyes closed. If you happen to come across the troops, could you let them know I'm not AWOL but just on a short leave for R&R? I'll take a nice long walk down there tomorrow.

PS: I'm glad you're all learning so much from your directors and having a great time at spa. Love, Sue

hi everyone - you sure have great directors. what a fun spa!

i arrived today with my bags. bren don't worry about the kitties i sneaked in my dog and cat. puss needs to lose a bit of weight so director is going to put her on a special diet and limit the rabbits

i was given a menu at the start of the day but i thought i'd like some treats so director agreed to let me add chocolate soy milk so long as i keep away from caffeine and alcohol. ummmm she also discovered the contraband in my bags and has confiscated it 8-| what a meanie!

anyway i was a bit naughty today. i went for my walk and tried the relaxation exercises she suggested but i couldn't rest properly. she did tell me to take a complete break and not stress about deadlines but i was worried about my essay and got pretty worked up about not completing it so i did a spot of study. and then i felt guilty and sneaked into the kitchen and make some cookies. director explained to me how important it is when i'm feeling exhausted to have healthy foods and not get caught in the sugar cycle and i know she's right. the cleaning lady is away tomorrow so as punishment i have to do all the vacuuming and dusting but after that she says i can relax.

she's also offered to buy some of my favourite healthy foods and tomorrow's menu has been changed slightly so i will be less tempted to snack. tonite she gave me a really healthy dinner. i had a huge steak and feel very full plus a lovely raw herbslaw and no dressing. she fed the pets and they got a bit of steak too - they're loving it here - it's a nice quiet country spot. we're going to cut back on tv too

nite everyone

OH sweetpea! What a pleasure to have you ( and the critters) show up!! Listen to your wise and studied director! How funny! Getting your contraband confiscated already!! We were warned! LOL!

Sue! What a wonderful report of your day!! Isn't it great, the amount of joy to be found in ordinary things! SweetJean! How sweet! Another walk with the baby girl and the magic time!

I had another meeting with my director this morning. We went into the courtyard, had coffee and mapped out today's activites and meals. I missed breakfast again yesterday morning and it makes such a difference when I get it in. So I've agreed to "show up" in the breakfast room this morning with the rest of the group. She stressed the importance of schedules and daily rituals for relaxation that don't involve food. She's VERY understanding of my needs and is willing to work things through with me and told me to not hesitate in coming in to see her with any questions I might have.

Today, kitty came EARLY! It's a HE......yellow kitty. He deserves a name. I'll call him Stanley! Oh he was so precious, got up on my bench with me, put his head in my shirt sleeve, wallowed real good for me and I talked to him........telling him how much he deserves to be someone's precious pet and how I wished he could be mine. I'll buy some kitty food today, as I'm out of stuff! I gave him turkey ham this morning, chicken breast yesterday and cooked pork chunks for two days before. He wants so badly to come in and be my cat and I so much wish he could!!

Yesterday, I pooped out on my director and after two hours of work, asked if I could finish today. She agreed to that and said she'd grant me extra time for completion of the required tasks, as she trusted me to do them. I did make headway yesterday and will do more today to make my suite a sanctuary....a place of peace and rest and calm.

OH Nebraska........was it you with Psycho Moocher! How funny!! I've had a psycho cat before too..he'd run up our legs while we were toweling off, as if they were tree trunks! YIKES! I wish Stanley was at your place or Sue's where he'd get the love and attention he needs and deserves! He's a FINE specimen o cathood!
I'd get kicked outa here if I was caught with him! That's after the $100 fine and $10 a day 'till he was gone or else I'd be gone! That's SO mean!

Have a wonderful day everyone.....be at peace today...I will keep you all in thought and prayer........love and hugs,
Bren

Hi Friends! One of the best things about this spa is that one of the things they do allow here are pets! They know how animals can bring companionship and give/receive love and decrease our blood pressure among many other things. Many of the dogs here at spa are overweight themselves. They’re just looking for someone to walk them so if you have your own, include them in your walks and if you don’t, I’ll bet a neighbor dog would love the exercise. Two dogs are sharing my suite with me tonight and they are playing and just having a blast and making me smile. Made listening to their barking a little while ago worth it!

Another great thing about spa is when we share with others what our director shares with us, we all learn and grow. She tells you exactly what you need to hear at any given time, and no one else can improve upon that so I’m not even going to try. You’ll learn what you need to know, at this point in your life, from your director guide.

It was another lovely day at the spa for me. Even though I got 10 hours of sleep last night, my body was still catching up from the less than five I got the night before. So I really wasn’t looking forward to my water aerobics class tonight but I had made a promise that I would go at least once a week and since I didn’t make it Saturday, I had to go tonight. Oh man, am I glad I did! Spa recently brought in a new instructor who really makes it worth it and tonight she had us doing kickboxing! It was quite the workout! Afterwards everyone in class sat in the whirlpool and let the hot bubbles massage our muscles. I was also able to walk down to the boot camp bunkers and check in earlier today. I added a minimum of 6 hours sleep each night to my goals knowing full well it might make me have to rephase but my director said it was time to get serious about getting enough rest. That it was all important to me right now, for lots of reasons, number one of which will keep my energy going strong. So tonight, I will have about 30 minutes of serious paperwork time followed by a quick run-through my suite to get it straightened up a bit (as I heard through the grapevine that that is one of the things they check here, something about when our minds and bodies are healthy and strong our surroundings will reflect that), and then I’ll turn in early tonight with a wonderful book I’m reading and then fall asleep to one of my meditation tapes. I’ve been going to a class here at spa too on balancing chakras but this is one of those deep in-depth classes that will take months of study for me to learn so it’s really too early to share anything yet. But I’m learning.

Good night everyone. See you tomorrow! Sue

Good morning everyone!
I had a day of rest and relaxation here yesterday. I was really tired and needed it. Today I'll be working in the office and plan to have a gentle, peaceful day there, and then work in my suite a couple of hours after. Yes, they do check our environment! LOL! I was told this wasn't "Real World" where we just threw stuff around and partied hardy! That was one of the other residents..I think she's been here before!

I was so glad to know we could have pets on board!! My director doesn't have a problem with it at all, she just suggested I kinda didn't advertise to the "owners" about it! That was a bit hard, when every time I opened my door yesterday AM, Stanley made a bee-line for it! LOL! Reckon I looked guilty? BUT! I found the neighbors down from me are doing it too and have bowls set out! LOL! Whew! made me feel better! Maybe we can share Stanley!

Today I'll be discussing with my director, the possibility of a second week here.......as I am gaining so much from the experience! I'm sure we'll work something out.

Have alovely day everyone..I plan to as well! I'll see you here again!

My director was proud of me yesterday, I had a long hard busy exhausting day at work but I did not allow the stress to overwhelm me. I begged her to let me go to Curves after work to work off the stress I DID feel even though it would be four days in a row and she let me go since I promised I would not push myself to do a wide open work out. It felt good.

I received a package with a new set of X Files trading cards in it yesterday and my director gave me persmission to sit and look at those a while last night. It really did give me special joy and relaxed me a lot right before bed.

Not being so strict with my food journaling has been a blessing at spa. some of my clothes fit bigger than they used to but my director told me not to get my hopes up too much as I have clothes in all sorts of different sizes and shapes. She told me I really have to be careful not to let my good habits slip. She is encouraging me to stop drinking any alcohol at all as she really thinks that is keeping me from losing weight by tinkering with my metabolism, even though I am exercising and eating well. I am afraid she is right about that, but that will be a difficult habit to break. Hey! I quit smoking once, I bet I can do this too.

My spa director was REALLY worried about me today. I had lots of pressure in my head for a while and then I thought I was having chest pains! The stress was just incredible at my job, I was caught between the two female veterinarians and their stupid power games, and the workload and stuff was just overwhelming. My spa director reminded me that I take quite a few dollars worth of blood pressure medications every month and she reminded me that my sister is very concerned that I am risking my health in this job and she was really scared for me. She agreed to let me go buy some beer just for tonight and medicate the stress enough to rest well tonight so I can get through five hours of this torture again tomorrow but she made me PROMISE that this is absolutely the end of what I am going to put up with in this job!!!!!!! Even if I lose my vacation pay next month, she wants me to do what I have to do to protect myself. I told her I was going to be strong and do what it takes so I can live longer and healthier. She is still nervous and scared for me, but she promises not to let me back down this time. I need to tell my boss that he will hire MORE help or he will hire DIFFERENT help, but he is going to be doing one or the other.

Weight control seems like the least of my problems tonight.

OH Nebraska!! That IS scary and oh....giant hugs for you! Your director is a wise and caring woman and knows what is best for you! I hope you got some good rest last night and your 5 hours today will whiz by.

I had a calm, quiet day...wish you all had some of them....at work yesterday. It was really hot PM and at 93 degrees, figured I was done playing outside. With the heat so bad, the BB-Q was called off, as just laying the wood down would almost start a fire...LOL! So I'm going out with my Bubba and Mom for dinner. He's buying.....he's been getting to work a couple of weeks and wanted to treat us to dinner out.

I had my time outdoors with Stanley this morning. That's a lovely way to start my day! Good coffee, nice breeze, and a sweet kitty to wallow on me!
I'll have a good day at work today, spiff up my suite before I leave and I'll look forward to dinner out tonight. It's a rare treat and I will enjoy it!

Have a great weekend everyone!.........be blessed ya'll!

hey all. i'm still here. i been sick with the cold and not handling stress too well so have been told by the director to turn the computer off and take a break from stuff

nebraska - has your director checked your heart out? :x chest and head pains are a warning sign and as well as setting boundaries with your boss it would be good to pop in and see the spa doctor. i don't want to panic you but lots of people overlook chest pains not realising that they can be the start of a mild heart attack. some people never even know they've had a heart attack http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=3053 (http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=3053) may help you

i know where you're coming from nebraska i need to take some deep breaths too and just put me first. this spa is great for me as i really do neglect myself

bren - hope you enjoy your dinner out. having someone else cook is heaven. not to mention doing the dishes. i will be looking to have a nice calm day myself

Hi there! Thought I'd wander over from bootcamp to spa to say hello. It sure is nice and plesant here, for the most part anyway. Nebraska - sorry to hear about your job stress - I really understand how bad that can be (it is what triggered my 6 week downfall). Hope there is a light at the end of the tunnel!

Do you guys know that John is seeking contributions for diet talk? And also that if you buy stuff from Amazon.com, if you go to it from the link in diettalk he gets a referral fee. I didn't know till I went into the thread at the top of the forums list, so I thought I'd mention it. Or am the only one in the dark about this? Amount he requests seems pretty small for all he does.

Good morning dear friend!!
Good for you..planning a calm, quiet day! I have lots of 'em and treasure them! I hope the cold will take a hike! and soon...... it knocks the starch from your shorts!

yep....I was thinking the same thing..how a nice dinner out will be relaxing and it's rare that Bubba wants to come over here so I thought it was real special that he wanted to take me and Mom out.
Have a good night's rest and uhh.......dance in your dreams! Nighty night!

Nebraska - still sitting here thinking about you - for me, i had some words with my boss, I think I am being treated in a way that is just not acceptable - I am a long time employee and do good work - and am being forced to suffer b/c of really poor planning by others. I have been so upset that I was about ready to leave this job - which is very secure and I actully like the work - b/c the upper management was poor planners and my immediate management is new and inexperienced, and not very good managers. My boss is now pretty icy towards me - but I have been assured theywill deal with some of the problems (though have not done so yet). BUt I think my talk helped. At least I feel better about it anyway. One thing I did insist on was new hours, they didn't want to give them, but I didn't back down. I think it helps

Good afternoon spa mates! Oooh, I just love this spa and am so glad I have a lifetime membership here! (BTW, you all can stay on for as long as you like, for as long as it's working for you, post as often or as little as you're moved to do so. Perhaps as "payment" for attending this luxurious spa, you all could become "contributing members" as Blanche mentioned. No pressure, do what you feel moved to do, or not.)

Let me tell you about yesterday and today. First of all, there was a group bike ride last night down the most lovely path you could imagine. Not only did I see ponds, bridges, and trees, I also saw a baby rabbit, a cardinal, and a DEER! How cool is that! (remember, I'm a city girl!). My biking partner pointed out the most gorgeous tree to me with absolutely no leaves on it and through some of the branches you could see the moon (even though it was light out). It was picture perfect. I was able to ride 10 miles and it was quite a workout! On the way down the path, the sun was warm on my skin and the wind was at my back. It never occurred to me until the way back that the wind would now be at my face and that I chose a bike with a seat that was much too small and hard for my butt, which does not have near as much padding as it used to be. I found out that real bikes work different muscles (the inner thigh in particular) than the machines in their exercise room. My director said since I liked it so much I should start asking around to see if any of the people I know would like to sell their bike to me (one that's smaller and fits me better) and I could start riding on the paths that are closer to my home and if I got really good at it, I could even ride my bike around town for petsits and running errands since everything's so close. Anyhow, after the ride, we went back to the spa for a cookout with mesquite chicken, corn on the cob, organic salad, and cottage cheese. And oh my, was I tired!

My director told me not to set the alarm this morning since I had nowhere I had to be so I slept until 8:30 (that's like noon for me folks!). I still woke up at 5 and every hour thereafter but I just rolled over and went back to sleep. It was exactly what I needed. When I finally got up, I cleaned the suite, took care of all the furry animals who share it with me (2 dogs and 5 kittens and their mom), worked on my biz paperwork, and then I heard the bell that it would soon be time for my water aerobics class. The Saturday class is taught by a man who works us as hard as if we were men ourselves. After relaxing in the whirlpool, I showered and dressed and went to 2 petsits, one of which I got to walk a fabulous dog, who kept rolling around on the grass to get his belly rubbed, the other one where she had gotten a new kitten who was more than ready for all the TLC I had to share.

After that, I got to tend the spa's gardens and fill up the bird feeder. I am amazed at how well my little section of the garden is growing. The tomato and pepper plants have trippled in size and can you believe I already have three small green tomatoes along with at least a dozen flowers on the tomato plants? This is amazing to me because I've NEVER been able to grow anything before. It's different this time because I've taken a special interest in these plants and want to nourish them and watch them grow and produce "fruit."

After this care-and-share time at spa, the director and I are going to plan my menus for this week and then go out to buy some healthy food. I'm obviously feeling absolutely great, almost euphoric, a natural high. I see life around me and in me and all is well with me and my world. My director said, yes, this is what it feels like to be alive and happy!

I'm not going to comment much on other people's posts as I need my involvement in spa to be the most positive experience it can be for me without me feeling any pressure to "advise" or "help" others, besides, I believe that everything other spa members need to know will be given to them by their own directors or other spa members, but I want you all to know that I thoughtfully read each and every one of your posts and I feel like I am right there with you, during your triumphs and struggles. But quickly, I just want to wrap my arms around Nebraska and am sending healing and healthy thoughts your way and to say how proud I am in particular of Blanche for the strength she seems to have acquired through her difficulities at work, the strength to stick up for herself.

Have a great weekend at the spa, everyone! Love to all, Sue

Sweet Jean

Hello to everyone here enjoying the SPA. This is a wonderful retreat from our everyday lives. We're becoming a good-sized group.

I must have signed up for the WORKING version of the SPA this time because this afternoon I was on yard duty and tonight after dinner I was assigned to kitchen cleanup. The call came to get up this morning at 7 AM and we walked as soon as we were dressed. That was nice. Since breakfast it's been all work. Oh well, I guess that's what pays for my keep around here.

I'm sorry Nebraska and Blanche are having on the job difficulties. My last job was a horror in that department and eventually I had to resign. Some situations can be repaired but if not, the sooner you leave the better. Good luck to both of you.

Bren and Sue ... the both of you sound so content and happy. This SPA suits the two of you like a glove. Bren, your dinner out sounds fantastic and Sue, your biking adventure couldn't have been better. I hope you get to do it more often. LOL ... I know what you mean about bicycle seats! OUCH! And Sweetpea ... your director really knows her stuff to get you off the computer. I hope your cold is better.

That's it for me tonight. Tomorrow I have a Father's Day barbecue to attend and food will be a problem. I plan to hang out at the salad bowl ... lol. See you all again soon.

Good Sunday morning all! It's EARLY AM.....almost 3:00, but I feel well rested and can get a nap before Church this morning, if needed.
Your day was fabulous Sue! When I lived in Irving, I had a beautiful Park to walk in that wound in and out of the woods with a cinder track.....squirrels that came running for nuts and would take 'em from your hand......I'd almost forgotten that lovely place and the memories associated with it! Wow...your ride sounds great.....as well as the rest of your day!

I had a great day yesterday....a quiet one at work with only one rental and few calls. I was reminded again how important it is to get plenty of water and watch my sodium intake. I'd overdone it the day before and had some fluid retention going on. My director is gentle with me..no harsh rebuke, she just lets me know when I'm headed for trouble and guides my choices......helping me get right back on track instead of the aimless wandering I'd done before. I feel much better and I know my time here is well spent. I signed up for another week....and it will be a working one too, sweetjean!

At 2:30 this morning, I was cleaning my ceiling fan! Who knew they could... uhhh... hold so much "gunk"..not I, 'till it was slung on the wall! LOL! I prayed for assistance, to get up into the chair.......like 3 times, and down again and I know it's my imagination but it feels COOLER when clean! I just KNOW that I will become more flexible and strong, with continued workouts offered here and the personal attention I get from my trainer. I will positivly Blossom!! I look forward to the day I can reach my feet in comfort again!! And Nebraska.......FL kinda suggested I do the fan last month..guess I'm a tad slow on the uptake!

The dinner out last night was very nice, I didn't eat too much (unless the hushpuppies count!) and I brought home contributions for my lunch today!........and my brother was very generous. Not only did I get dinner but he gave me $48.00 back for some of the cigs I've bought him of late.
The timing was perfect, as I have been on a "money diet" of late and was in need. What a blessing! I also sold a little TV/VCR I wasn't using and my friend will pay for that today. I normally just give everything away and that's ok at times, but it just made good sense to get some bucks flowing if I could.
My director took my credit cards and put them away as part of my "responsibility requirements" and asked that I not use them except in case of real emergency..between now and January of next year.

Before going to Dinner, I took Bubba to Hasting's Book store for videos...and showed Mom the sitting area so she could rest while he browsed...and to my surprise and delight!..they still had lucious coffee out! I got a cup for Mom and I, and really wanted another but Bubba was ready to go too soon! BUT! My director suggested I put that on my list of things to do this week on one of my "off" days.......I love books and could spend an hour or two browsing, getting ideas for the "rewards" to come with completion of goals, and having GOOD coffee while I browse. They ask only for a "donation" of .25 cents a cup and have 4 delicious flavors to choose from..oh yum! Sop for a buck I can be well entertained and enjoy some personal time!

Today is our menu planning day for the week ahead and I'm asked to contribute ideas so I'll go do that....and clean up my suite before my outdoor time this morning. Since it's very early.......I have plenty of time today!

have a wonderful day everyone........I will as well!

Oh you gals make me laugh so much  I love Jean's WORKING spa and bren cleaning the gunk off the ceiling fan. Oh the images I had of that LOL

Bren ~ what are hushpuppies? Over here they're a brand of shoe. can't imagine they'd be too tasty. now thinking about your credit cards i've seen this neat trick. you pop the card in a glass of water and pop it in the freezer. apparently it still works as good as new BUT you have to wait for it to defrost so it slows you down on impulse purchases. cute huh?

I like books too. For those of you who don't know I write books and when I'm not writing I love to read. before i move anywhere i always check the local library and bookshops as i love pawing through books. the director made me rest and read the last few days. i was really anxious about doing my assignment essay but she said to get my mind and body sorted first. so i have read lots of detective novels and some good magazines. i'm also enjoying oprah's magazine. it's HUGE lots of good reading in it. And i get a session with Dr Phil so I will be planning that soon.

I am feeling much better today. Today's guest lecturer was Tony Robbins and he talked about state management and how to stop yourself from falling into the doldrums. I need to keep working on this area as my eating gets terribly out of control when i am depressed.

Sue ~ your spa sounds really active and i'm glad you enjoyed your exercise. my director has me focussed on adding fun and joy to my life so today i did some dancing. it was just 2 songs but it was fun to get the body moving and increase the heart rate :x I also like the organic food you have there Sue. This is an area that my spa would like to move into but so far they have had trouble finding regular suppliers as they are in a small town. But i will help with the shopping this week and look out for some healthier options

Blanche ~ I am glad you decided what was important and made the necessary changes

Nebraska ~ hope you are doing well :D

Hi guys! I love reading your posts. For those of you who don't like/don't have time/or have trouble controlling yourself in grocery stores, check out http://www.peapod.com (http://www.peapod.com) . They don't deliver to all areas but you could probably find somewhere else that does.

I told a friend about a half hour ago that I was going to go sit outside and listen to my water fountain, but I'm still hanging out with friends. Well, maybe a couple of you can join me! My director told me that water is good for not just the body but the heart and mind as well (she learned that through the chakra balancing class she's taking with me).

The director asked me to help the yard crew today too so I said, sure I'd be "happy" to mow the lawn! She reminded me it'd be good exercise and it's so nice and cool outside that it would be more pleasant. And, since she's always right... But first I'm headed out to read the Zen Cat and listen to the water!

Here's some of the quotes from the book that my director thought might be helpful to some of us.

*Enjoyment is not a goal, it is a feeling that accompanies important ongoing activity. –Paul Goodman

*There are only two mistakes one can make along the road to truth: not going all the way, and not starting. --Budda

*The aspects of things that are most important for us are hidden because of their simplicity and familiarity. --Ludwig Wittgenstein

*We are tasting the taste this minute of eternity. –Rumi

*Even a cat is a lion in her own lair. --Proverb

*When hungry, eat your rice; when tired, close your eyes. Fools may laugh at me, but wise men will know what I mean. --Lin-Chi

Enjoy your day at the spa, Sue

Zencat sounds interesting! And I would love to get groceries delivered but my spa is in the country and they only deliver non perishables. You can't get fresh veges, meat etc delivered here which is a real shame

But it is a lovely sunny day so I will go outside and make the most of it :)

Hello all!....oops had to come add an o to hell-o!
I had a PERFECT day again at the office! I treasure my weekends there alone. I got our ledger and money program caught up to date, spiffied up the counters and my desk and enjoyed my time. I went to Sunday School and Church. I'd been skipping SC 'cuz I can't hear in there....and didn't today either, but will use my hearing aids next week. The bosse's wife led the meeting this morning. I wore some square toe dress shoes..well my poor feet were crying by the time I got to work, so I will get a nice soak and massage tonight during personal time. I'm waiting for the pool to clear out before I go in. It's too sunny and hot right now but about 8:00 it should be shadier.

I'm finishing a book by Robert Parker..oh I LOVE his stuff! He's very witty! I love Patricia Cornwell, Janet Evanovitch, and other's I can't think of but love the series...James Patterson's are great too.
I'm looking forward to hanging out at Hastings........and hope a new crew will be on when I'm there. I sort of mis-behaved there the other night and I normally don't act out in public.......long story but incompetence and a place run by teen-agers is a nightmare some days. Anyway..as I was leaving I apologized for howling at 'em......I think by then they were praying to see the last of me..but it's NOT to be! I WILL go back....I WILL behave and I WILL be calm and quiet!

It's so good to see you all hanging out and taking care of yourselves and enjoying your time here! I have a great deal and look forward to the coming week..work and all! My director suggested doing the ceiling fans quarterly and I won't have gunk on my walls. LOL!
Hushpuppies are fried cornmeal wads w/onion and spice....kinda like corn muffins..just smaller and right tasty! I had about 5...while waiting for dinner. They were stick- like so not very big....yum! We have the shoe version too SP!

OH HEAVEN! I have my feets in a tub of very warm water/epsom salts...oh it feels devine!!
Why do I wait 'till I'm in pain to be kind to me? Why did I wait 'till gunk spattered my walls to clean my ceiling fan?
Hey Sue, your reading Cat Zen reminds me....once I read Who mMoved My Cheese....in one sitting at Hastings, and took notes! That was an excellent little book!
I like simple things...I'm a simple person and if I can find a great deal of wisdom in one simple saying......I'm grabbing it!

How long does our spa outing last?????? I am hoping I can stay another week. I have really enjoyed getting to know my director, I had no idea she was lurking inside of me all this time. She really cares about me and has some wonderful advice! I didn't realize I was so loved. This spa adventure has been absolutely wonderful for me and I am not ready to leave yet.

Robert Parker!!! what a coincidence. I just read my first Parker book with Spenser and Hawk and the dialogue is so witty ... I love it. He's on my list to read some more.

AND I like the foot spa idea. Thank you Thank you. The bath here doesn't work but I can soak my little tootsies. Ages ago I had points and I used them to get a free foot spa with the massage thingee on it and I only used it once. I just dusted it off and filled it with water. had to get rid of the dead spiders too. it's a wee bit hot right now but i will pop my feet in it in a mo. oh how divine! This is brilliant. I'm so glad you suggested it

Now in my session with TR he said not to ask 'why' he says they are not helpful questions. he suggests instead to ask what can you do to ensure you do nice things for yourself in the future AND HAVE FUN DOING IT! and to ask how can i take better care of my house and have fun doing it etc etc. what can i do to make my life better now, rather than why didn't i do it in the past. so i thought i would pass that on to you and then you can tell me all the good stuff Dr P tells you - we'll swap all this good knowledge and get wise hehe

sounds like you had fun at hastings creating havoc MxBehaven

i'm still having trouble with puss. she doesn't like the new dog and keeps hiding. i brought her into the room and showed her that the doggy ws on the other side of the glass but she sprinted and hid in the wardrobe and is refusing to come out!!! silly girl. i want her to see that she's safe but she's not buying it at all LOL. not sure she'll ever come out of the wardrobe:cat: ok the new dog barking at the window probably isn't helping 8-|

nebraska - you can stay as long as you want!! the spa director wants you to look after yourself and reduce your stress :)

:balloons: Yes Nebraska..Sue mentioned a lifetime membership and if we work our way thru, it won't cost much! Don't we have GREAT directors? Who knew what was awaiting us? I'm SO glad you have found your experience to be as good as ours! I have thoroughly enjoyed my week one and am starting week two today!! I kept the same outline, just changed my menu up. I will be looking for ways to stretch myself physically and mentally this week.

OH wonderful sweetpea! Doesn't it feel SO good to have our tootsies taken care of! They have a big job to do and deserve good care! I've even done a couple of soaks at work before. I keep a big bowl at the office for that purpose. I'm doing mine again now, in cold water...it's leftover from last night but feels refreshing! I had one of those foot thing-ees once and gave it away! Oh well....my little dish pan fits great beneath my desk!

I've had my outdoor time already, fed and watered and loved on Stanley...what a treasure this time has been! I love the kitty and thank God for sending him to me and it's a great way to start my day....I was up and out..sneaking food/water to kitty...at 1:30, so may need a quick nap before work. 45 minutes would be nice!

OH SP! Thanks for sharing what TR said! Wonderful! I will do that! Ask "what can I do" instead of "why didn't I?"Oh way cool! Your reading Robert Parker too! Aren't they funny! I've read maybe 5 or 6 of his. Sue Grafton was one I couldn't remember last night and Sarah Paretsky.......I think it's Sarah......I love suspense mixed with humor!
Sometimes I read a whole book in one day. I'll make another Library run while off this week. I may schedule an appointment with the nail shop on Wednesday. I'm not sure I want to wait another week! I can do that while out for the Library run!

My director was very pleased with my food choices and managing to avoid overeating EVERY night last week :D ......woohoo!... and has told me that I may, if desired , have a piece (ONE) of cheesecake this week......so when we shop for veggies, I can pick up one lovely piece for dessert and coffee one night. I look forward to that......
She suggested trying one new recipe each week....keeping it simple and inexpensive...so this week's choice is Kung Pao pork w/red pepper /broccoli slaw and my jasmine rice. I have all I need except for the red pepper.

Have a wonderful week everyone! I know I will! Enjoy each day and be blessed!
Love and hugs..Bren

I like those authors too... Also PJ Tracy is really good, Jonathan Kellerman, John Sandford and Lauren Henderson. All have some humour and mystery!

Fantastic your director must be very pleased with you. A whole week without overeating :o and a new recipe each week is a great idea. I know I tend to get stuck in a rut eating basically the same stuff all the time. Good to step out of the comfort zone

The weather has really packed in here and outdoor activity is hard so I will be looking at ways to amuse myself indoors. My director has noticed how fatigued I am and has told me I need to concentrate on getting to bed earlier. She's right of course. I'm always vowing to get an earlier night to bed but I'm not doing it v often. I need to make an effort in that area. Some days I'm so tired I spend half the morning in bed and miss out on the sunshine - of course that won't be aproblem tmrw hehe

I will be turning off the computer at 9:30pm tonight and getting ready to be in bed before 11pm. For me that's early and if i can do that regularly I will be pleased with myself.

Hope everyone else is having a lovely relaxing time and look forward to seeing you tmrw ...

Hello all.......couldn't get in this morning, so will play catch up. I am really enjoying my day off.
I took care of my cleaning this morning and did some things during commercials while watching my soaps.
I picked up my meds, stopped at Goodwill, found a beautiful dark olive blouse and 3 paperbacks. I was going to the Library but had really bad tummy pains so came home instead. I'll catch it tomorrow when coming home from my nail appointment.

Instead of a piece of cheesecake I chose to get some sherbet instead. I got some pineapple...lucious! and the rainbow......w/rasberry/lime and orange mix.
I also got fresh yogurt and orange juice...so I am set for the week.

Oh sweetpea...I love Jonathan Kellerman and his wife Faye writes well too! And Jon Sanford..oh yeah! I usually start in the large print section.....I still have to wear my glasses, but it makes for an easier read! I want to get Patterson's 4th of July if it's availabe tomorrow. It's a 7 day book but that will be no [roblem, getting in back on time. I've read the other 3........1st To Die, 2nd Chance, Third Degree.....out of sequence of course but excellent! I picked up a couple at Goodwill for tonight's entertainment.....I prayed all the way home.....I was in agony! I'm MUCH better now..but will be really gentle with me. The Director said I should turn in early, as I had a busy day, got a LOT done and the rest of the day is mine.......

So off I go, to do just that! Nighty night everyone! Have a good one!

I start in the big print section too - but that's because they have all the good books LOL and it's nice having big print and not having to strain my eyes. nothing wrong with them a bit short sighted but large print is easier

an early night sounds an excellent idea. i hope those tummy pains go quick

i had another session with TR this morning and it was great. Learned a lot and have to do a wee exercise later in the day. For now tho i am going to take it easy. i had to have the new dog put down as she had a mountain of problems and i didn't feel it was right to pass those on to a new owner. it was very sad altho the cat seems pretty delighted to have her territory back hehe

anyway just have to be nice to myself. i got the latest pj tracy. so far it's not as funny as the earlier ones. and yes i like both the kellermans too. great writers but i like the psychological aspect of john's clinical psychologist. i've read all patterson's books except honeymoon i think. 4th of july was a bit sad. i didn't like the beach house - very predictable and boring. but the others are good except i loathe the fact that alex's lovers nearly always die or leave him. i hope the latest lasts the distance. hmmm there is another psych author i like but i forget his name. same set up cop and psychologist best friends. winning formula huh?

Hi guys. I just had time for a brief skim tonight. I see you all have been hitting the spa's library. I LOVE those authors too. It's been years since I've read a book just for entertainment. Maybe it's time for me to hit the library too, huh?

My director gave me permission to miss a day or two at BC and spa when I'm so busy with the biz, but wanted to check in and say hi. This is a place I don't want to stay away from any longer than necessary because of the good energy it has.

Tomorrow I get driving lessons, lol. As I was backing out a client's driveway, I was so worried about not hitting the car behind me that I smashed right into her garbage can and over it went! Of course, right in full view of the neighbor, lol. Hope he doesn't think I was drunk! I'll have some 'splainin to do in my client notes tomorrow.

I'll try to come back on tomorrow, but every time I think I'm done with the biz I get another reservation form or email. Petsitting is feast or famine...I guess I'm eating now!

Have a great day at spa tomorrow! Sue PS: Anytime you guys go to a "seminar" and want to share with the group what you learned, I'm sure we'd all benefit. I've heard OF TR, but never really heard what he has to SAY. I'll bet it's really good stuff!

06-22-05, 02:50 AM
Yes Sue lots of good stuff

Today we talked about mood states and how that affects are lives. My exercise is to prioritise the states that give me pleasure and the ones that give me pain

For example pleasure...
* adventure * success * love * security * comfort * freedom *

pain...
* rejection * commitment * physical pain * depression * humiliation * anger * frustration *

when you prioritise you work out what you most want (or want to avoid). So would you be more keen to avoid depression or physical pain? if you will do more to avoid depression than physical pain that tells you how you live your life

ditto if success is the thing that most makes you happy and you put it ahead of love that tells. you know your values by your actions

plus if you are a person that craves adventure and excitement you are going to act totally different to a person who puts security top of the list. so first you work out who you really are. then if you want to change you work out how to go from putting love at the top of your list to putting health or whatever

it's very enlightening. it makes you understand yourself. like today a friend who can't afford it bought an mp3 player. and i'm like WHY???? why do you need one? who cares? but she gets something from it. it's a means to an end. for me there is little or no pleasure but for her it results in a state change and that state change is important to her. not really sure what it signals. she says technology and motivation when exercising. i just think she wants all the cool stuff younguns want (i'm 9 yrs older hehe) but anyway it helps to think about stuff. why is your car or your house important. why do you want a new tv or a new pet or whatever.

food for thought...

Actually I'm a motivational speaker so I know all the works of the so-called gurus inside out and back so if you have any questions I'll try to help. Or point you in the right direction for a book/tape to follow up. I haven't listened to TR for a long time but coming to the tape fresh there is always one or 2 new things to learn. And this exercise (above) is something I do from time to time so it's good to get reinforcement from the tape

Thanks for posting that sweetpea! I've heard him some on TV in bits and pieces but never to any length at all. I do have in my dayplanner, a copy of an article from Family Circle on Finances he did. It's really...REALLY good! I have it in my "Finances" section and much of it highlighted!

Speaking of such........I found again, Sue, the Life Balance Challenge you posted at BC back on March 19th! I found and lost again..my notes and answers but I have the print of your post in my day planner also. I want to re-do that! I revised a zippered dayplanner with my own charts etc. and it's private, personal and a big help..to have all my stuff in one place.

Today will be a working day, but with several side trips. I want to go to the off site bookstore, so will slip over to Hastings for a prowl and coffee. They have a big selection of marked down books but I'm not buying today.....just looking and perhaps making note of what I'd like to have later. I do love books!!

SP...I'd heard from a co-worker that Beach House was a disappointment..so haven't read it. Yes.......I am sure 4th of July will be sad........but a good read. I wish I'd done them in sequence.......but at the time, didn't realize they were one! LOL! I'd read #1, then 3, then 2 and 1 again, as it had been awhile and once started...finished it, even tho I recognized it!I went to Janet Evanovitche's site and read some stuff over there once. She's a funny lady!

I miss my recliner during reading frenzies! I gave it to my Mom last year....If I could get her a big comfy chair...I'd probably bring it back home. There were night's I'd sleep in it when I was sick. I am SO blessed to be feeling well most of the time now and I know I will improve so much more in time....when doing what I know to do, to care for me well.
I have a nail appt. this morning, then will go to Hastings before it's really hot.
I had some time with Stanley in the courtyard this morning and hosed down the deck as someone had made a very nasty sticky mess at our table and benches..so in cleaning that up, figured I'd just do the whole area. Stanley was so cute..chasing the hose. We didn't get as much of the loving time this morning but it was nice to play in the water.

I have a meeting today with Dr. P, my personal trainer is coming at 11:30 and I've been asked by my director, for assistance in filing again today. Once all is in ORDER......I can pull what's needed at any time, with ease. So I'll be tending to that today.....and I was reminded it's laundry day again as well.

Have a lovely day everyone....take good care of you..whatever that entails!
I will as well..........Bren

Good morning, my fellow spa mates. Remember when I encouraged everyone to bring their pets to spa? Well! I see everyone took me up on it and then they all promptly went off to do fun spa things and left me in care of all the pets! The pets and I have been having a great time together but the office work is starting to get out of control, lol. I kid you not, every time I log on to my email there’s another reservation form and as soon as I get done corresponding with one client, another one emails me. It’s a good reflection on me and my biz though and I do recall saying I wanted to increase the business. Just remember folks, you get what you ask for. I must say, though, there’s something very nice about walking dogs in the early morning and late night and cuddling up next to a purring cat.

With all this, I’m doing my darnest to stay grounded and focus on one thing at a time to completion so I don’t get overwhelmed. I exercised at the gym last night, have been keeping up with cleaning my suite, have been eating healthy (although I did eat more than I intended last night), have been sticking to my goal of getting six hours sleep a night (I range between 6-7 hours), doing my best to keep up with the paperwork, and listening to my meditation tapes every night as I drift off to sleep.

The only thing I’ve been lacking in a little is the social times at spa and other divisions of this wonderful place called DietTalk.com. Like I said yesterday, my director reminded me that I didn’t need to feel any pressure to post as often as I usually do, to post if I have the time and want to and feel it would be good for me. (Actually, the only reason I’m posting now is because I’m at work, but life is busy here too.)

Okay, I guess that’s it for me. I guess my director was right--it really does help to talk and share with others. Calms me down and reminds me to look at the big picture. Thanks, guys, for listening.

Sweet Pea, I'm coming back to really read what you wrote. This looks like good stuff! And yay, we have a professional motivational speaker at spa!!! You get what you need! I hope spa is able to meet your needs as well.

Hi guys. My director showed me a couple things today that I wanted to share with you. First, I noticed tonight when I was cleaning the stove that I wasn’t pressing my belly up to it. I simply didn’t need to in order to reach the far side because my belly isn’t what it used to be. She showed me that a side benefit to this was that my clothes would be cleaner and last longer. I used to think I was just sloppy because the belly on my shirts was always dirty. Now I realize it’s one of the side effects of obesity. Also, as a side note the shirt above my boobs no longer gets stained from dropping food there. One I eat less, two I eat less sloppy meals and eat slower, three I care more about my clothes, four my boobs are considerably smaller, and five I can actually lean over to reach for the food rather than having to pull the food to my mouth. Make sense?

And quickly, one of the reasons I may be so busy right now is so that I learn something through this. One of the things the director showed me tonight was that I needed to learn how to set priorities. Like I was telling a friend, I used to think I was pretty good with that but when I started my biz I got the mindset: everything’s top priority, do one thing at a time in any order and just get it done. I’m thinking sometime soon in the future that I may add that as one of my goals, which is sure to cause a rephase, lol. I think I’m now challenging myself with the seemingly “impossible” just to see if I can do it. I can reach higher and higher levels that way.

Sue, what a clever director you have - doing one thing at a time will save you a lot of stress. It is far more efficient. The time taken to stop and restart things is enormous, and the brain doesn't get so stressed with handling lots of things. if you are prone to adrenal fatigue you will notice huge benefits

I had a really busy day yday. I didn't want to think about the dog that I had put to sleep so I worked on my accounts and filing and other boring but necessary stuff. I also made some phone calls and other tasks. I was very productive but I stayed up late. My director keeps teeling me about the importance of getting to bed at a decent hour. I guess I should listen to her more huh?

Sue what sort of biz do you have?

Bren a recliner sounds fabulous. I know they're really cliched and everyone laughs but I've always admired those lazy boys you can just tip back. only trouble is i'd never move hehe. oooh i'm thinking i should go up to the attic, i have a recliner up there that the cat sleeps on. she doesn't need it! no seriously lol there's also a single bed up there she likes. but i could bring the deck recliner down and drag it out on sunny days. won't be many as it is winter but still would be nice...

alright i'm going to pop out in the last light of the day for a wee read of murder and mayhem...

I'm a petsitter (oh yeah, I also am a secretary at a full-time labor union office job). I'm sorry to hear about your dog. I will PM you a couple poems that I found helpful. I lost my baby three years ago and I was with her when she passed over. I cried for three weeks. I loved her so much. She showed me the happy memories quickly in the grieving process. I feel her spirit all the time, I believe whenever I think of her that she's right with me. Here's a picture of her: http://icarepetcare.com/PicsBanditDT.htm (http://icarepetcare.com/PicsBanditDT.htm) I hope the poems will give you some comfort. Sue

Sue were you previously called icpc?

Thanks for the kind words. I have to admit my pets are a big part of my life. If people ask me to go away my first thought is what will the dog do hehe instead of saying yes I need to go have some adventure and then find a way of caring for her. I have kennels 10 mins away but she's very attached to me and I am certain she would fret so I usually arrange for a neighbour to feed her, take her with me or stay home hehe. The dog that I let go yday was to be a new friend for my Saffie darling but it didn't work out.

I do stay home more than I should so I will make myself a note to see who else I can find to do petsitting! Altho there is a lovely hotel up the coast that I am allowed to take saffie to but i haven't booked yet as the weather has been so fickle. guess i will just have to book and pray it's not thunder and hailstorms!

Yep, stands for I Care Petcare. Pets are a very important part of life for many people and I often see that people don't travel because they can't find someone they trust the care of their pets to. It is important to get out though (take it from someone who hasn't had a real vacation in over 8 years). In fact, my director was just saying the other day that I should take a minimum of one week a year, days all in a row, when I take off from at least my regular job, even if I just sit at home or fill the time with petsits. She also encouraged me to take at least 2-3 days and actually go someplace fun, a real vacation. I think I'll take her up on the suggestion! Take care everyone. Make every day enjoyable, a daily mini vacation.

Your director is a wise woman. I need to do the same. It's a long long time since I've been on a holiday. And I am too scared to book to go away for a long time and leave my pets. But it would be great to go overseas so I need to start thinking of options!

My director is throwing her hands up in frustration with me. X-( There have been several stress inducing events going on the last few days....... the worst was an accusation by my boss, who pulled my drawer in the middle of the day and had someone count the money to check up on me. It was accurate to the penny, of course! But I have allowed this to make me absolutely physically ill. Headache, upset stomach, etc. I am hurt and insulted and just overwhelmed by this, he should have KNOWN that I am honest and trustworthy. He still tried to twist things around to make it my fault that he had accused me falsely, he is such a pig. My director is instructing me to collect my vacation pay and have something lined up to go on to immediately afterwards. Before this kills me. My husband is absolutely livid, which is nice, knowing he is on my side. My director said the only positive thing I have done is check out the reality of a co-worker's attack (same day) and find out that she is nasty to everyone, which I knew, but just needed reinforcement.

Sorry to just come here and vent, I love this place and I love bootcamp and I am trying desperately to hang on through this mental health leave so I can get back on track.

06-23-05, 10:29 PM
Oh Nebraska that is just plain nasty  and I'm sure your director has given you sound advice. You may want to consider legal advice too. We have a term here in NZ called constructive dismissal where someone is treated so badly they are forced to leave. When that happens they are entitled to extra support or money from the employer. I don't know if it is worth the stress, but to do what your boss did and so publicly I think I'd want to redress the balance legally. He should be whipped :whip: I thought vets were nice people :o in fact I always imagined myself marrying a vet hehe

I too have been feeling stressed out. My darling Saffie is in a lot of pain and I’m partly responsible. I’ve let her get overweight and it’s aggravating her arthritis and affecting her mobility. She’s tripped twice in the last couple of weeks. The first time I just thought it was strange but the second time I knew there was trouble. Last night I lay awake thinking about it and feeling totally rotten. I know that’s an unhelpful emotion and now I have to change my habits. She’s so adorable and I like giving her little scraps and leftovers but all that has to stop. She has to be on an even stricter diet than I am on. Unfortunately when I see her looking sad or when she runs around excitedly hoping for leftovers I give in and give stuff to her. So now I am passing my bad emotional eating habits and junk eating on to her. I’m a bad mother LOL

Have also been doing some self-work with TR. In today’s seminar we learned to describe how we define success and what I believe is success for me. Plus I’ve been dealing with some legal things. Have to perk myself up before I binge on sweets !!!

Oh, Sweet Pea! Thank you so much! I could just cry reading your message. My director is so harsh with me so much of the time, she wants me to be perfect and get everything right the first time, and I am so frightened most of the time. Of course it is because she loves me and wants me to have a better life, sometimes she just forgets to let me know that she wants good things for me because I deserve them and she loves me. Thank you for reminding me of that, I suddenly feel like a lot of the Pressure to Succeed has been lifted from me.

Yes, you need to stop the "people food" and treats with your pet and get the weight off. Isn't it interesting that we share similar food issues between our selves and our pets? I had an overweight friend once who told me she never sold a goat to a skinny person because she didn't trust them to feed the animals properly. It is all part of the same picture!!!!!!!

Oh Nebraska.........Hugs to you........what a nasty thing to do! We could resort to "praying for the enemy, as it's like heaping coals of fire upon their heads"...I used to say I'm gonna BURN their heads off! I don't think God was impressed by my thinking. :D I had a co-worker from de debil once too and it was a major nightmare. I'd almost forgotten the horror of it all! My job is so peaceful now and a blessing to go to.

I hope you can have a sit down with your director and map out a plan for "recovery". You are precious and are a big part of our group at BC and here at Spa and you definatly deserve a break.

Sue, I'll bet you're the one who put a flea collar on Stanley! I knew he was hanging out with someone else while I was at work or doing my inside work! He turned up with a collar on! I told sweetpea he was cheating on me! I'm glad someone is looking out for him when I am not out there. He's a precious kitty.

I had a really rough day at work.....my allergies were really outa control and I went thru a boz of kleenex..made it hard to deal with people, sneezin', snottin' and coughing. I take Claritin but it didn't do diddly. I'm better PM..took a benedryl and knocked me out for awhile. I woke up to the chirping of the smoke alarm. I got it down and unplugged the battery, watched some TV and am headed back to bed in a few minutes.

I have a meeting with my director in the morning. I've avoided her the last couple of days. I was running down and needed rest...so hid from her! She found me tho! She seems to always know where I am.

I'm gonna boogy..........have a GOOD night everyone and finish the week well! Love and hugs to all.
Oh Sue! I mis-read the icarepetcare..........al this time I thought it was CARPET care! OOPS!

Good morning gang. You know, it’s a funny thing about our director, she’s so wise and knowing and understanding and loving that even though we think we’re hiding from her she knows just what’s going on with us and it’s okay, she gives us our space when we need it and is always right there waiting for when the time is right to help us work things out the way that’s right for us at that particular time. She definitely does NOT expect us to be perfect, she’s just there to guide and direct us. Get to know her, become best friends with her. There is no pressure (or anything else “bad”) coming from her, the pressure comes from somewhere else and we should try not to give in to it.

Hey, Sweetpea, to perk yourself up today, I wanted to let you know about a special dog-owner parade they have going on down at the center. It’s where spa members can walk their dogs through all the many trails for as long and fast as their dog (and human :-) are able to handle. I think they’re going to make it into a daily thing if there’s enough interest and benefit from it. Before the walk, there is a canine-human nutrition class that all pet owners are encouraged to attend.

And speaking of holidays, my director told me to go for it! I had taken today off work but then I had a client cancel (rescheduled later) and I’m actually pretty much caught up (temporarily I’m sure, lol), so I thought, well maybe I’ll go in for a half day. But nope, the director said, “Sue, you’ll still have nearly 8 hours of petsits to do today, take the time in between petsits to rest and recuperate and enjoy.” See how great she is? So, I decided I’m going to a morning water aerobics class, catch up with my friends, and might get in a nice snooze if I don’t have to take one of my kittens in to the vet this afternoon. Thankfully, it’s not the same vet office that Nebraska works at, although I’d love to see her and give her a great big hug today. Love you all, Sue

Thanks for letting me know Sue. Saffie and I took a little trip down the country lanes and then she came back and had a dip in the pond. She has elbow dysplasia and arthritis so even tho she's only 3 we just go for nice gentle little rambles. That way it keeps her moving but doesn't stress her joints. Of course she stresses them plenty on her own galloping around the house and jumping excitedly, not to mention sprinting across the lawn to chase bunnies. We have 3 acres around the spa here so there's plenty for her to see and do. No really LOL I live in the country on 45 acres so I don't have to use my imagination too much for this challenge.

I am doing daily sessions with TR and he's helping me identify how I measure success so I can evaluate whether it's helpful for me. Already I'm seeing that one measure of success is that I have to be the best at what I do. The minimum I will accept is being upper decile. So I'm setting pretty high standards - it's no wonder some days I feel pretty inadequate!

This morning I went into a one-off meditation seminar. I'm afraid I was late! so I missed a lot of it. I thought we could just pop in anytime between 9-11:30am but it turns out the seminar was for the whole 2.5 hours. But it was really interesting to have different techniques to try and talk to the nice women from Sri Chinmoy. There were 40 people there. Even they were surprised at the response but I guess a lot of people are like me... really frustrated that there is nowhere local to learn meditation. I can do a home study course if I want. and they might be coming back here to do more sessions. I will keep my fingers crossed :peace:

Bren I hope you've sorted out that sneezing and are feeling better today. Catch you all soon

Good morning everyone!
Oh Sue..I long for the day when my belly and boobs aren't in the oven if I take a notion to clean it! I also look forward to getting my feet up enough to do a thorough massage etc. So many things I took for granted even at 200...that I'm not able to do now. BUT...I will again!

I recovered from my allergy round..whew! It was quite rough.....putting Germ-X on, thinking to soothe my poor nose was a DUH thing to do! Yikes! I almost screamed it was so painful! I won't do that again! Friday was SO much better and I thanked God all day for recovery! My director had a nice chat with me yesterday and as you said Sue..she is VERY undersatnding and not at all the hard task master I once imagined her to be!
I am up this morning putting my suite in order, since I took two days off from the "work" portion of my Spa stay, to rest and bring my spirit peace. I rest better when my surroundings are in order so that's what I'll be doing today..restoring order and taking good care of my health.

I did the refigerator boogy this morning...and disposed of carrots that had a use by date of February 28th......I kept thinking I'd use 'em! LOL! I DESERVE fresh food! So if I waste $2.00 occasionally.....so be it.
Since eating wasn't involved, I was allowed to help Cook out in the kitchen. I am SO pleased with the change in PM food rages since coming to Spa! Treating myself with respect includes eating well and taking proper care of my mind/body and spirit.....I am learninig so much and finding much joy in the experience!!

I'm going back to "work" now.......I love the early morning hours here! I can get so much done!
Have a blessed day everyone........love and hugs to all! Bren

hehe that's cute. yes i am always buying veges and fruit with great intentions and having to throw them out. the other day i bought meat and got home and discovered it was a day past expiry. i wasn't due to go back into town for a few days so the pets got it. the rest gets saved for the farm animals so no real waste!!!

glad you're feeling better. germ-x YOUCH!

your director is looking after you well. have a great day at work. i'm still eating ice cream (ahem) guess i better fess up to the director

Hiya SP! I take the term from FlyLady! She does a 27 Fling-boogy with trash and give-aways too, so I did some of that this morning as well. I made a start in my walk in closet, got my clothes closet in order, did my chest of drawers.....and I keep a tub out for the give-aways. When it's full, I bag it up and have Cissy pick up or I tote it to Goodwill.
I'm doing up my menu for the rest of June. and posting it on the bulliton board in the kitchen. I have some good stuff in there but need to use it up this week! No more 4 month old carrots! LOL! I buy the stuff with every intention of eating it! I'll practice putting my intentions to work! With the money diet, I'll be careful where my dollars go and will be less apt to waste things I hope!

have a great day all...I'm off to get ready for work!

I need to stop wanting expensive things!!! it's a different sort of money diet. Success is my highest value so I want nice things to show my success. Not sure I'm going to change that quickly but it would simplify life...

I've had a bit of trouble with impulse buys...for myself or someone else......then I berate myself for being so quick to part with the money! I am making a very real effort to avoid that type spending now, as I want to get my debts paid off (I have 3 years to go)
I have a list of things I'd like to have...a new George Forman grill, coffee grinder and nice beans etc. and I will WORK for them this time! I used to run grab something without any thought at all to it...spend all my money, and then when I had to put my truck in the shop..had to wipe out savings to pay for repair! I don't want to continue living like that.....and it's a tought requirement of myself to MAKE DO! LOL!
In the long run, I'll enjoy it more if I wait for it...and have it as a reward for a well done job!...ie losing weight, getting a set number of work-outs done etc.

Losing weight is a matter of health for me....and I will be talking with my Director about this need. She most likely knows what I need to do for best results and I am learning to trust her judgement and expertise. She's concerned about the blood pressure and will guide me in ways to bring it down to an acceptable level. The Doc reccomended daily walks and I've signed up for those. I'll be staying on here.....indefinately! There are new classes starting this next week and I want to participate in some!

Have a lovely, peaceful day everyone.......you are all very special and I am so glad to see you here!
Love and hugs...Bren

Hi guys. I bet you thought I fell off the face of the earth! Actually, I wasn't far from it. I ended up taking the wrong path at the fork in the road, went through a deep dark forest, and ended up falling into a pit. My director heard my cries for help and came out to lift me up. I'm a little bruised and battered, so she told me just to take today off (but to come on here for a little while too, that it would be good for me) and start fresh tomorrow morning.

It started on Friday, seemed like something was a little off and instead of stopping right then and there, I just kept going. It was compounded by an eventful day petsitting (client didn't lock chinchilla cage good and two chins got out, no where to be found; another client gave someone permission to use his car but didn't tell me so I fretted that it might be stolen, couldn't reach client, and didn't know what to do; another client's AC stopped working in 95 degree weather, and other minor things happened too). Every last one of my clients that day had a big bowl of candy sitting on their table. By the time I got home I was on a sugar high and looking for more. I can't even list out what I ate but I was on a major 48-hour binge. I have no idea how much I've gained, but knowing me and what overeating does to me, I bet it's a lot. During this time, I kept saying, "Sue, remember what you've been telling others, remember what you've learned, remember..." But I kept telling myself to be quiet and wouldn't listen to reason.

Today's better and by tomorrow I'll be back on track. Director put me on work duty today. She said no more laying around. She said to focus on something else and opened my eyes to the condition of my kitchen and laundry room. She said when I was done, to go read my chakra book, figure out which one(s) were out of balance, and DO the exercises. I'll read that while I'm listening to my water fountain. She also reminded me that there must be something special to learn from all this and it will help me on the next leg of my journey.

See you tomorrow, Sue

oh i know about impulse buys - those darned paintings i got ripped off on where impulse buys. got caught up in the frenzy of online bidding in the auction and went overboard. and i am still paying for that. i got to get rid of the emotion. each time i look at the pictures i feel resentful. anyway the police are apparently working on it so i have to wait and see what happens with it.

I agree the lifestyle changes are about health. for me it is mental health and physical health. also about my self image. just sometimes i forget and the lure of ice cream and sweets and nice warming indian takeaways win me over.

Sue you have had some challenges alright. wow if i went to a whole lot of places with sweets i'd OD on them too. i can't resist anything put in front of me. just knowing it's there is enough to fuel the cravings but listen to your director and things will come right...

i have been doing my walking but today am taking a rest day, will catch you all later in the day

today i haven't got much done. also last week i exercised every day when i should have had a rest day so today i had a rest...

i spoke to the director about it and she said i need to pace myself. last week i crammed stuff in and did so much i wore myself out. plus she said not to be too hard on myself with the overeating as right now i am doing a lot of inner work. however she does want me to go a week without bingeing. last week i had 4 binge free days altho a couple of days last week i overate bigtime. they weren't binges but they were heading that way.

so this week it is a focus on being binge free, continuing my self work and also on some legal matters that need to be done this week. also tax returns.

today i am reading a robert parker novel and i read a john sandford one over the weekend. i'm going to have a hot bath and after that i will be writing in my diary and making a plan for the second half of the year

Oh Sue!! I'm so glad your Director found you and got you back to the Lodge! You did have some rough times! Isn't it good tho, that you are attuned to your inner needs so that even tho you didn't "heed" the call, when things went left, you are aware that you "heard" it!! I think that's worthy of acknowledgement! You've gotten back on track and this too will be a dim memory soon!

I had a good day yesterday..met all my goals for the day and my Director was pleased with my new found ability to say "no" to myself and mean it! I too, am learning to hear my "needs" and take care of them, rather than feed them into submission. That was old response and I am fully aware of what that got me!

I will be getting back into WORK mode today, as I enter week three at Spa. I have needed this respite and it's doing me a world of good. I've signed up for several work-outs with my PT this week and some off grounds entertainment, that I didn't fit in last week when I was ill.....it's not polite to sneeze and snort around on books others might be handling.........oh and the coffee.......I will enjoy that as well.
I'm doing collections and disposals the next three days, and my director asked me to make a real effort to finish filing this week so I promised I would.

Oh SP! That's GOOD! Your Director is on the money too! Inner work requires a lot of effort too and you are making great strides! Trying to do TOO much at once only befuddles and overwhelms one. I know, as I've been befuddled for a long time! Oh I like the idea of getting a plan for the rest of the year! I'll steal your idea and do that too.

I have kitchen duty this week, and will be making sure there are veggies abounding and fruit to be found! The Director confiscated and disposed of a peach pie someone left behind after two servings. I'm betting it wasn't even very good! I did up 4 lovely grab and go salads, got my beef cut and marinating for stir-fry and jasmine rice cooked.

Have a lovely week everyone......make it ALL about YOU!
Bren :D
So I'm off and running!

Hi guys, I'm in danger of rephasing if I don't get to bed soooon, but I wanted to come on first. I just got done playing an hour of computer games. Didn't really have the time, but I sure enjoyed it and it was a nice escape, sure better than eating and your hands and mind stay too busy to snack. I also took a nap today and cut my hair yesterday. Taking advantage of some of what spa has to offer. Now, I'm off to bed. G'night everyone. Sue

there's no rephasing here at the spa sue!

we recognise that sometimes your needs change and that the program needs revising. i know you have your other goals but here at the spa it's all about doing what's best for you right now, s
