I've read somewhere that the easiest way to lose weight is to eat the same thing everyday because then you get bored with your food and will eat less of it. lol.. good job sticking with it!

Thanks for stopping by Kelsey. I really appreciate the support.

I weighed myself today (my official weigh in for this week will be on Tuesday)
today I weighed 2.6 pounds down from Tuesday. That's great!! I hope I can keep this up.

The hardest thing for me right now is not drinking any wine. My husband works at a vineyard and wine is a passion of ours... it's those pesky calories that kill me!!

Well I'll give an update later on my progress. I am going to go for my 2.8 mile walk now.

Just peeking in. I like your lifestyle approach, as opposed to a diet. That's how I feel, too. I see your goal weight is 105. Wow! I'm just curious; how tall are you?

You mentioned you're a teacher. What do you teach?

Wishing you continued success.

Hi there all,

I'm 4'10" tall so right now at 124 lbs. I'm overweight, and you can definitely tell be looking at me. At my goal weight (105) my BMI will be right in the middle of the healthy range for me. My doctor says that I can be 89 pounds and still be within my healthy range!! I haven't seen that number on the scale since I was like 8 years old (I'm 26 now). Crazy.

Anyway, when I first started dating my husband (before he introduced me to all the evil foods in the world) I was about 105, I liked hoe my clothes fit then. The thing about being sooooooo short is that every last pound shows. at 105 I wore a size 2 or 4, at 128 (my heaviest) I wore a size 12!! that's only about a 20 pound difference!!!

Sorry that was a really long answer-- sometimes I wish I could just get on a stretching machine that would stretch me out to a normal height and then I would look fine :)

I teach a 4th and 5th grade multiage class in a humanities magnet school-- I love it!!!! This year will be my fourth year.

Thanks for stopping by teacher81! I love to see other people here... it makes me feel more accountable :D

Hi Chrissy ...

I hope you're having a great 4th of July. There's still lots of summer left to eat right and exercise. Personally I think teachers have the best working schedule. I know it gets intense during the year, but the vacations are great.

I'll be watching your progress and wishing you success.

Okay,
Today was the official weigh-in.
Drum roll....

total loss for the week: 2.6 pounds

I was hoping for a more dramatic first week, but I know that slower is better.

I haven't written what I ate for the past coupld of days in here.. I stayed under 1400 cals and went for walks both days (3 miles on Sun. and about 2 yesterday)

I haven't eaten yet today. I am going to indulge a little bit today, I think it's important to let yourse;f have one "cheat" meal or item each week. I like to do that on my weigh-in day. It gives me something to look forward to during the rest of the week, and prevents me from going crazy.

I hope that everyone had a nice fourth!!

congratulations on the loss. Many people are stuggling with that today after all the eating yesterday. what kind of "cheat" meal are you going to have? Keep up the good work with the walking, it is too hot here to do anything outdoors.

That's a great start to your weight loss. Hey, at least you didn't gain or maintain! And think, if every little pound gained makes a difference, then isn't the reverse true as well? :)

Third and fourth grade, huh?? Wow! I start at a high school in August, but the last two, I did junior high at a private school. That meant also working with the younger grades, too. I sure don't have the patience for third or fourth graders, although my fifth grade English class was my favorite ever, even though I only taught them 3 periods a week. One time I told them I was crabby because my homeroom kids were really being wild, and they pulled out this humongous straw hat with birds and flowers hot glued to it, and insisted I'd feel better if I wore the hat. I taught adverbs wearing that hat. There's something to be said for teaching in an environment that you love.

Hi Chrissy,
Thought I'd stop by your journal and say congrats! You're doing awesome. 2.6 lbs in the first week is great! Keep it up! How do you like calorie counting? I think it really helped me. I need to get back into it, as I have put it off for the last couple of weeks.

I feel short too! I have always wished I could get on a stretching machine too! I always thought if I were only 3 inches taller, I'd probably be at a normal weight. Well, we can't change our height, I guess, so the next best thing is to do the best we can at our height! Keep up the good work! Sounds like you're doing awesome so far! :D I will continue to watch your success!

chrissypf1

Thanks for stopping by ladies!!

I did have my "cheat" meal yesterday, and it was yummy.

Day 9:

Breakfast:
pretzels (100)

Lunch:
Hummus (?)
Pita (?)
dressing (?)
guess for meal (400)

snack:
pretzels (150)

Dinner:
beans (100)
low cal hot dog (100)
ketchup (50)

total: 900

plus I am going to have some wime tonight and maybe some pudding

I walked about 2 miles today.

I like the counting calories thing. It helps me to keep track. I also have to plan more this way which is really good. If I am spontaneous with eating I get into trouble.

I actually teach 4th and 5th grade. I love it. The kids are at an age where you can reason with them, but they are not old enough to be too jaded yet.

elsie
07-06-05, 11:55 PM
You must like pretzels, lol. I had a handful of them, because we give them to the kids --I work at a learning center-- and that is the hardest time for me not to eat, between those and the chocolate we have for the kids. Ofcourse the problem is not so much the calories as the salt... and they arent filling.

sugarplum
07-07-05, 10:53 AM
I also like counting cals. I know I get sort of nazi with them, but I like the control. I've heard that some people relate that to an eating disorder. I don't think so, though. There's nothing wrong with EATING and controlling how much you eat, is there?

Didn't you say your hubby owned a vinyard? That's pretty cool!

Keep up the great work! :D

chrissypf1
07-08-05, 11:08 AM
I fell off the wagon yesterday. I just ate everything :(

I am planning to pick myself up and start fresh right now!!

Oye Vey, how many times have I said that before...

Yes, I love pretzels!! I just love snacks in general, I know that I need to increase my vegetable intake though....

My hubby works at a vineyard, but is not the owner, that's in the grand master plan... :)

I started the day off with a walk. 2.8
I also did the 5 minute ab-roller workout.

Today I am a new woman, the kind of woman whose goal is a healthy weight!!!

sugarplum
07-08-05, 11:29 AM
That's a good master plan! I'll have to buy a bottle of your future wine! :D

I get those snack attacks too. Sometimes it's hard not to eat and eat. I don't know if I'm hungry or just bored... 8-| Luckily, those are few and far between. Congrats on becoming a new woman today! You're doing awesome. Does your hubby like to go on walks with you?

What is an ab roller? Never heard of it! Sounds neat, though. Have a great day! :D

elsie
07-08-05, 12:32 PM
Chrissy, how much water do you drink a day? Have you found any other snacks that are healthier, well everyone thinks pretzels are great, but there isnt much nutritional value to them --unless you are a salt deficient rabbit, but then you need a saltlick--. Like I have some soy crisps, and they taste great, so I can kinda get that fix, but they are full of protein, so unlike pretzels, they fill me up. I took a bag to work yesterday, because I didnt want to eat pretzels, and then ended up not having anything --my will power wouldnt let me--.

chrissypf1
07-08-05, 10:15 PM
Hi all,
Today was a pretty good day as far as the diet thang goes:

breakfast/ lunch:
tuna sandwich (215)
light doritos (90)

snack:
pretzels (150)
I just can't give 'em up :o

snack #2:
wheat thins (80)

dinner:
english muffin pizza (300)
carrots and ranch dressing (60)

dessert:
sf pudding and lf whip cream (80)

grand total: 975

I did my 2.8 walk this morning and then again tonight with dh! That's a record 5.6 miles! We are planning on walking together tomorrow morning before we go to the vineyard... I had no wine today, but surely I will tomorrow. WE are also going out to dinner with the owners tomorrow... I am planning on being good. I hope that they have appetizing low cal options on the menu.
What do you guys get when you go out?

elsie:
I am a salt addict. I try to drink more than 100 oz. of water each day. I'm better on some days than others, maybe I should keep track of that here too... I don't know what it is, but I just love salty snacks. Last year I did South Beach for a few months and lost weight, but I couldn't keep it up because I hated giving up those snacks. Protein definitely keeps me full longer, but I'm not as satisfied in my head with cheese and what not. I'm going to look for those soy crisps at the store. I count out all of my little snacks into serving size baggies as soon as I buy them to limit my portions. How many cals per serving for the soy crisps? Thanks for the advice! I really love to see your posts :D

rikkij:
Yes dh loves to walk with me. He loves to do anything active with me. It's just a matter of getting myself motivated. An abroller is this gimicky ab thingy that I bought when I was in highschool, they were the thing to buy on an infomercial in the mid nineties :) It's been collecting dust for a while, so I thought I'd give it a go again. Thanks for stopping by!!!

elsie
07-09-05, 01:08 AM
If it helps to keep track of your water than I would definately include that. Also your calories are a bit low, so you should try to get that up a bit, especially considering the amount that are from salty snacks with little nutritional value. Congratulations on all the wlaking, thats really great. I know I dont walk much, we walk everywhere within the city, but its small sowe usually have to drive to most places. It is also just to hot here, thats why I love my air conditioned gym :)

Hi Chrissy ...

Thanks for looking for me over at my journal. I went down to the Jersey shore where my mother lives to spend a few days. I got home late last night and today I didn't do much except unpack. Unfortunately it rained while we were at the shore so we were inside most of the time and all we did was EAT. I kept eating today too so tomorrow I have vowed to start eating right.

I see that you count calories. Do you know about the free website www.fitday.com (http://www.fitday.com)? Look into it. You enter the foods you eat every day and it tracks your calories and food nutrients for you. Very easy to do and convenient.

OK ... I'm off to plot and plan my diet revenge and this time I will win the war. I have the whole summer to concentrate on eating right and exercising ... I can make a big difference on the scale and with my measurements by Labor Day.

Talk to you again soon.

:o

I had a lot of temptations yesterday, but I think I did well. I had a pretty decent amount of wine throughout the day... the owner calls it research. We try lots of different wines to see what new varietals we may produce at the vineyard. THEN we went out to dinner and had more wine. But I did pretty good as far as food goes. It is hard to know the exact cals though.

For dinner I ordered this great salad that had grilled chicken, beef and shrimp on it. It was yummy!! There were lots of veggies and mixed greens as well which was good. I know that I need to be better about eating more veggies. I also walked 2.8 with dh in the a.m. yesterday.

I weighed lighter today than yesterday. I hope that by official weigh-in day (Tues) I have lost another 2 pounds. It's slow, but I will be happy with 2 pounds per week. In a couple of weeks I have to go to my best friends wedding and I have to be down at least to 118 in order to fit in the bridesmaids dress. I have like three weeks for that, so hopefully I can do it.

Elsie & Egypt:
THanks for the advice. That shake sound great!

Jean:
I'm glad that you are back! I hope that you had a great trip. Yes I love fitday. I have a hard time entering in my cals everyday, but I do enter my weight. I love the reports! It's great! Good Luck on your diet revenge :D

OKay today:

tuna (87)

3 bites of a peach (20)

So far today I ate one srving of pretzels (I wonder when I'll get sick of these) and about 80 cals in strawberries and rf whip cream.

We go back on Aug. 15th. but I think I'll go a few days before that to sort out all of the stuff in my room. They take everything out to wax the floors and then just kinda plop it back in the middle of the room. I saw the school supplies at Walmart too... IT's TOO SOON!!!! :)

Turkey (150)
bread (80)
mayo (45)
lettuce (0)
doritos (90)

no sugar added creamsicle (20)

chicken patty (180)
baked fries (140)
ketchup (50)

Total: 935

I walked 2.8 this morning and did not end up doing the ab roller.

Tomorrow is my OFFICIAL weigh in. I have been drinking a lot of water today and tonight, so I'm worried about the scale. I want to have lost another 2 pounds... If not I will be so sad :c(

I have to remember that no matter what the scale says tomorrow, if I keep with it, I will see results. I say that now, but I also know that if I don't get results soom, it will become harder to stick with.

Wish me luck!

Thank you so much for your support ladies!!

Today I woke up and I had my official weigh in... I lost 2 pounds this week. So that's 4.6 pounds in two weeks. 6.8 total.

I want the weight loss to be faster, even though I know that 2 pounds is great and exactly the right pace for permanent weight loss.

Today's stats:

pretzels (200)

bread (40)
turkey (60)
mayo (45)

english muffin (100)
tomatoes (10)
cheese (100)
romaine & spinach (0)
dressing (65)

wine (200)

That's only so far. I may have another glass of wine and I certainly will have dessert although I'm not sure what I'll have yet. I may have one of hubby's icecream oreo pops for 100 cals.. or pudding... or a fudgsicle... I'm not sure yet. I also bought soy crisps (thanks for the suggestion from a fellow dt) and I may have a few of those-- they are only 4 cals each and they're pretty good!

I walked 4.6 miles today with my in-laws (who I love) and did the ab roller.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion on those.. they are filling and really good too! I am closer with my in laws than my parents too. They are truly wonderful people: generous, caring, and genuinely unselfish people-- it's great. I encounter many people who act that way towards me too when I tell them about our relationship. I've heard some horror stories. You and I are lucky girls :sigh:

It must be nice having everyone around you watching what they eat. Here everyone watches it, but they just watch it get in their mouths and add to their stomachs. Sometiems they harass me, but they have gotten used to it over the last year. They keep telling me I dont need to lose any weight; which is why for the last 6 months or so, I havent even tried.

chrissypf1

Okay so today I really didn't eat much until dinner.

I had 110 in pretzels and then I had a dentist appt. for a filling and my tooth was bothering me for a little while so I didn't eat until dinner. At dinner I split an 11 oz. Bison kansas city strip steak with my hubby. He had the sides and I had the house salad (with really bacon!) and a creamy honey mustard sauce. I had three glasses of wine, one bite of vanilla ice cream and a chocolate chip cookie.

I walked about 1.5 miles casually to dinner-- no ab roller.

rikki:
Thanks for the congrats. It really helps me to stick with it when I'm encouraged-- You are so sweet!! That's awesome that you are close with your MIL. Mine is great too. We are like girlfriends and family. She'd a lot of fun. My in-laws live about 20 minutes away and my parents live WAY across the country :(

Elsie:
It helps to have people around you watching their diet-- but sometimes my husband is so good at it that it makes me crazy. It's so stupid, but if he eats badly, it motivates me to eat better-- how dumb right? When he is so good and making suggestions on things I can do to be healthier it drives me nuts. I think I may be crazy!!

I eat mostly at dinner too. It does look like you are doing good though, keep it up.

Thanks for stopping by Kelsey!

I am hungry right now (just woke up). I have to go down stairs to the kitchen and eat slowly or I will eat too much. Maybe I'll have some soy crisps, or my infamous pretzels :)

PS- I ended up doing the ab roller at some light weight arm stuff last night-- I haven't walked yet today.

Just curious, how come you never have breakfast, just snacks? They say breakfast is the most importnat meal of the day, and research shows that is true for many reasons. After going 8 hours without food your body needs it, and I dont know if food like pretzels is exactly what it needs. Just a ?

I'm not a big breakfast eater either. I've only been making myself eat breakfast and less in the evening since trying to lose weight. :) Last night I went to bed feeling hungry. This morning, not interested in eating. I'm going to go force myself to make breakfast now. :)

Doing good. Keep it up!

I usually eat the most at breakfast too, but I think if you've found a plan that works for you, you should stick to it. You can always modify later if you need to. I used to NEVER eat breakfast, and then I got into the habit of eating about 600 cals (sounds like a lot, I know! But it's healthy oatmeal, a banana, half a bagel and yogurt.) Then I tend to eat less during the day. I hardly snack anymore either. You're doing great, though! And you said you were in the healthy BMI range? That's great! I think I am almost there. I'd like to be comfortably in the middle, which is why I chose 135. Plus, I think I was at 135 at one point in my life, but still flabby. Now I'm so much more toned! I can wear the same pants I wore in HS, but I weigh like 13 lbs more! So I'm hoping at 135, I'll LOOK more like 125! :D

Have a great day!

I have been an a lot of diets and I have learned a lot about myself through them. I realized that I really look forward to dinner. I also like to snack at night. When school starts, chances are I will eat a more substantial breakfast again. I get up so much earlier when I'm teaching, and I don't have as many opportunities to snack througout the day. I always seem to get myself together and lose weight in the summer and then I put it back on during school. I am going to try to break that trend this year.

Thanks for the feedback Elsie, Rikki and Diz. I like seeing you guys here :D

Okay here's how today looks:

pretzels (100)
soy crisps (40)

bread (80)
mayo (50)
turkey (100)
doritos (90)

strawberries (10)
whip cream (30)

hot dog (150)
bread (40)
fries (140)

icecream thingy (100)

total (930)

I walked 2.4 miles today. I was dissapointed when I clocked it in my car-- I thought that I had walked longer...

I've been working on getting my house organized. I had the carpets cleaned, bought some new picture frames and updated some old pics. Tonight I even organized underneath the master bathroom sink. Next: de-clutter guest room and office, organize under guest and half bath sinks. Maybe I'll be motivated enough to do that, maybe not...

Tomorrow I pick up the dress for my best friends wedding from the tailor-- it was too small when I dropped it off and there wasn't enough material to let it out so all she did was hem it-- but it's been awhile since I tried it on. I hope that it fits better. The wedding is in 16 days. I'm the matron of honor. I really need to NOT look like a sausage in this gown....

Ohh, you've lost a substantial amount of weight in the last couple of days, and on your tiny frame, that has to make a difference in the way the dress will fit. No sausages here!

If you ever get tired of pretzels, I have been snacking on these RyKrisp crackers. They're kind of big, I usually eat two, for a total of 70 calories. Made with whole grain, too! They're sort of dry, so I top them with thin slices of colby jack cheese. It's a good evening snack; very satisfying and not as salty as pretzels, although the cheese adds some calories. My roommate in college used to freeze grapes, too; they are pretty good that way.

WOW have you been organizing your house! That's awesome; I really need to be more like that.

Have a fantastic Friday.

I just woke up... slept in.

I weigh a pound more today than I did yesterday! This is why I should stop weighing myself everyday... Hopefully on Tuesday it's the lighter weight that shows on the scale.

I hope everyone has a nice day!!

Don't worry about the gain. Just know you've been doing good with the cals and the exercise. I think it's ok to weigh every day, cause it keeps us mindful of where our weight could go if we over do it. But I also think that it's a bad idea to dwell on the number.

Have a great weekend! :D

Diz

I wouldn't worry about the one pound gain. I refuse to weigh myself daily. Only once a week for record keeping only. I'm trying not to focus on pounds because although my goal is to lose weight, my main goal is to get healthy and happy. So as long as you do what makes you happy, eat well, exercise, don't focus so much on weight. It can be discouraging when it shouldn't be. :D

Weighing yourself daily can be a bad thing for sure. Because we go up and down all the time, and seeing that can really kill your motivation. Ofcourse I am abit compulsive about weighing myself, so I cant talk.

I went out to dinner last night and ate rather poorly. I think my total for the day is somewhere around 3000 between food and wine! I am not going to beat myself up about it though. If I can do really well today, tomorrow and Monday then my Tuesday weigh-in should be fine, I would love another 2 pounds but we'll see.

Well back to Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince!!

It happens to the best of us. Try not to worry about it too much. Even at a "stable" weight, your weight can and will fluctuate by as much as three percent. Keep your chin up; you're doing well!

Hi Chrissy. So you finished HP in a couple of days too. My DH stole the book from me and read it first! He is also the one who told me he'd never read the HP books, then got them for me for Christmas and recently read them all. All six in a matter of weeks. He's a fast reader. I thought I was fast till i married him!

Good luck for your weigh-in. Some weeks are better than others. THe important thing is to not get discouraged. I knew this lady who did WW and said "If I don't lose 10 lbs in 10 weeks, I'm gonna quit." Well, she pigged out all the time, and obviously didn't lose the 10 lbs. Blamed it on WW, and gave up. Think of all the good things she could be doing with her health, instead of giving up. Most people don't realize that weight loss and healthy eating/exercising/maintenance is NOT a quick fix, but something that needs to be done our whole lives.

Here's to a good week and good weigh-in!

Thanks rikki and egypt for the encouragement!!! I feel like I need it this week. I ate 1025 calories today, tomorrow is the weigh-in-- I hope it's good news :o

rikki- oh yeah-- I totally read HP by Sat. night. I am dying to talk about what happened-- but no one I know has finished it yet-- I'm still forming my opinion on the book...

egypt- thanks for stopping by. You're right, I absolutely need to just keep on no matter what the scale says tomorrow. I am working hard and doing the right things-- I just need to stick with it!!

I'll talk about HP with you! I really don't know what happened either. I.. just something about the different writting style or the fact that I've read each plot line before in HP boards discussing what will happen. It just.. didn't surprise me, at it was just all too much, I think.
