View Full Version : DT Poetry Slam!
chumlette 07-19-05, 03:30 PM Here's something fun and different...
I got this idea from Sandielynne's journal. If you want to post a ditty about dieting, eating right, or exercise, feel free.
I'm gonna include Sandielynne's and my haikus to start us off!
Chum:
Sandie, Sandie, oh lady, oh No,
A couple of days munching brings you woe
But it really's just fine
Don't dip in the wine
And eat zucchini 'cuz you're in the know!
Sandielynne:
Oh dear! Oh me!
Who is THIS I see?
Chum has come to visit with me,
to make me laugh with joy and glee.
No need to worry,
no need to fret,
I've not dipped into the wine just yet!
But zucchini is the dieter's food,
it's sugar-free, fat-free, and almost calorie free too!
So the munchies are over,
I'm back on the "horse"
And eating all good and healthy,
Of course!
Still, I must thank you
for coming to my aid
and for the little ditty
that's still in my head.
I hope that you too
are sticking to plan
and doing well for today
to prevent any gain!
Come back again soon,
the door is never locked
you are always most welcome
with that wit of yours,
that is always half cocked!
Chum:
My mind's on the squash.
Zucchini, zucchini! Oh!
My love's all yellow.
Sandielynne:
But the Turban squash are coming!
Large, round, and dark green.
Green, the color of life!
Chum:
Squash! Squash! Squash! Heaven!
Without their little Sun-Love,
I would be nothing.
Roses are Red
Violets are Blue
I wish I could write poetry
Like Sandie and you.
Carol
Kitty81 07-19-05, 07:01 PM You could if you tried,
Yes, I'm talking to you,
I like this thread,
When there's nothing to do.
I've stayed on plan,
I did, yes I did,
There's a thin one inside,
But she's staying hid.
I'll let her out soon,
You all will see,
The thin one inside,
Is looking like me.
So, someone else take it,
continue the verse,
If I write anymore,
It's gonna get worse.
JoThrive 07-20-05, 02:37 PM Ode to Veggies, Especially Broccoli
Vegetables are wondrous things,
Nutritionists all say,
Colors, textures, tastes and smells,
We need them every day.
Vegetables are special friends,
They help our bodies thrive,
The nutrients that they contain,
They help keep us alive.
They nourish us in many ways,
This is a simple truth.
They keep us healthy, fit and trim
I learned this in my youth.
Please pass the broccoli to me,
That tasty, crunchy treat,
Skip potato chips and all that stuff,
I want good food to eat.
JoThrive, 2005
jessica 07-20-05, 02:56 PM heee!
these are fun!
(though I'm not one
to write in verse-
and my prose is worse!)
so we know about veggies
but what about fruits?
(they all make us look good
in bathing suits)
So I'll quit now--
it was bad, (and how!!)
sorry if I've offended,
now go get yourselves mended
Athletea 07-20-05, 03:28 PM A PO-EM on This Thread
I usually rhyme
Pretty much all the time
But this rhymin' on our diet
Has made me kinda quiet
'Cause ya see
You're all better 'n me!!!
I can't think of a ditty
On feelin' fitty
Okay, "fitty"'s a cheat
So I'll rhyme on what I eat.
Like carbs that are good
'N protein like I should,
'N some fat,
That's where it's at.
Sandie 'n Chum
I can't do haiku
Like ya'all do.
Can't get that meter
Or make my rhyme neater.
But this thread's so clever
Hope it goes on forever.
I'll stop now.
And take a bow.
That's 'bow' as in 'bow-wow'
Not 'bOw' as in 'bowl'
My rhyme's on a roll
But only whole wheat
'Cause that's what I eat!
jessica 07-20-05, 03:58 PM heeee!
uh oh, I feel a bad haiku coming on...
Hunger grips my gut
but fat grips my butt (and hips)
and so hunger's fought
and another, if that didn't cause enough pain...
Where is our Chum(lette)?
Missed today, and sorely so
(So perhaps, she naps?)
chumlette 07-20-05, 04:05 PM Poppies are red
Phase 1 makes me blue
I am missing french fries
Or is that "freedom fries" for you?
heh heh heh
Thanks for participating everybody. Seemed like we needed a bit of levity here...
JoThrive 07-21-05, 10:31 AM Fruit is So Good!
Are you ravenous? Are you starved?
Needing something good to eat?
Remember this, my hungry friend,
Fruit provides a tasty treat.
Apples, oranges, peaches, pears,
Grapes of every hue,
Nutrition plus a touch of sweet,
Fruit is always good for you.
So eat your fruit, enjoy each bite
Remembering, as you munch,
That fruit beats pizza every time
You plan a healthy lunch.
- JoThrive, 2005
Athletea 07-21-05, 10:51 AM An Ode to JoJo's Ode
Thanks, JoJo, for this fruity retrospective,
Puttin' pizza 'n plums in the proper perspective.
Fruit is good, I do agree,
It grows on the vine, it grows on a tree.
It grows all around,
It's sweet, it's round.
That's all I can say,
So have a good day.
~ Athletea
sugarplum 07-21-05, 12:30 PM I love candy, yes I do.
Chocolate and Skittles and all that goo!
But it made my tummy
Turn to gummy
So I better eat lots of veggies and fruit!
But I can't give up sweets
If I do, I will cheat.
So I eat 'em sometimes
(I can't think of another line that rhymes)
And Still losin' weight, so that's neat!!!
Ok, I think I might get voted off "Poetry Island" :tomato:
Athletea 07-21-05, 12:42 PM Ditty to Rikki
WHAT? Vote ye away,
Nay!!!!
I'm votin' for Rikki
To STAY 'n play.
Have a good day.
This ditty's not witty
But it's hot in my city.
My brain is fried
But I tried!
This thread's a pip!
It's really a trip.
Chumlette's so smart
To post a thread for this art.
Think I'll stop
And drink my diet pop.
That meter could be neater.
Oh well,
It's been swell.
~ Athletea
This is such a wonderful thread
I just can't wait to leap from my bed
to find out what is here
so I can find some way to stear
my mind to a higher diet gear
Carol
Forums and chat when we're online
Bring us together to cheer or whine
We sweat and work for every pound
and tell our buddies when they're around
The scale and the tape will tell the tale
But with all these friends, who could fail?
Lisrey :D
(Cool thread, Chum!)
chumlette 07-22-05, 01:09 AM I love a Big Mac
but it doesn't love me back.
I love an Eskimo Pie
but a big butt just makes me cry.
I love a big cupcake
but I suppose I've more at stake.
I love a downward scale
Because I'm sick of being a whale.
JoThrive 07-22-05, 10:01 AM A Cheer for Diettalk
Let’s raise a cheer for Diettalk
That happy, cheerful spot
Where challenged folk who look for help
Find fat is not their lot.
“But I’m so huge,” we hear them cry
“How can I lose this weight?”
We’ll help them lose, remember this -
Fat is no ones fate.”
So count those calories, watch portion size,
Eat healthy foods galore,
Omit the pies and cakes, and such
They make you yearn for more.
Exercise of the aerobic sort
Should happen every day,
Strength training can be added,
To help you on your way.
To lose weight is not easy,
It seldom happens fast.
But slow pays off when in the end
Your weight-loss now will last.
So raise that cheer for Diettalk
John, and all the rest,
Give help, advice, encouragement,
We really are the best.
-JoThrive, 2005
Athletea 07-22-05, 10:46 AM Ibid
I'd like to add a stanza 'r two
Thankin' John for all he DO.
It's not grammatical
But DT's my sabbatical
From all proper English 'n such
And I appreciate it much.
It's been fun
Now must run.
'Aerobics every day,'
That's what JoJo SAY!!!
Ok.
sugarplum 07-22-05, 10:53 AM Cool poems everyone!!! Love 'em!
I was walking to the fridge the other day
And tought to myself: "What would my DT pals say?"
I know they want me to do my best
And look spectacular when I get dressed!
So I try to eat, just what I need
All those extra calories are just plain greed!
I thank all my friends, who've helped me this far,
Let's get to our goals, and become a Diettalk Star!!!
Have a great day everyone! :)
Athletea 07-23-05, 12:05 PM Ode to Sugarplum
Rikki's greed hath gone away
Not to return on another day.
All extra calories she's forsworn
With angst her psyche is never torn.
She knows what to do
When junk food starts to woo.
She thinks of her pals
Great DT guys 'n gals.
This'd be a longer rhyme
But I'm kinda outta time.
~ Athletea
Heavy, sluggish, overburdened,
pressed down by weight
physical and other; so alone.
Breathless, staring mountainward.
Noose-tight waistband
camera shy at every party
heartburn aching, signs ignored,
each excuse ticked past.
Sudden shock, lightbulb moment
something tripped the mental block
baby step to gradual freedom
establish a goal.
Sweating delighted milestones
a marble rolling down a hill
closetful of clothes too big
reward after the workout.
Lisrey :o
Jumpsoda 07-24-05, 02:34 AM Folds upon rolls of a billowing mass
the heart strains to push blood through a pinhole
months roll along and blissfully I go on
ignorant of the fate that awaits me
jessica 07-24-05, 03:53 AM wow.
these are getting deep, now (but good!!)(Bravo, A plusses all around!)
Said the cheetah to her lover cat
Do these spots make me look fat?
Ha! I *love* that!
Lisrey
Athletea 07-24-05, 02:18 PM Yea, verra deep: An Ode to Recent Odes
Lisrey, no longer burdened down
Defines the lightbulb moment
Unravels the strand from commitment to reward.
Jumpsoda explores life blood
Flowin' through a pinhole
Contemplates fates
Whatever awaits.
Kilogo's cheetah is just like me
Wonderin' if anyone can see
The fat
Where it's at.
~ Athletea
Athletea 07-24-05, 02:28 PM An Ode to False Pretenses
Diet Coke
Is a joke.
It pretends to be somethin' it ain't
For those who want to think
They're not having sugar to drink
A rosy picture it paints
Pretending not to be sweets
But makin' me crave sugary treats.
It lies to itself
As it waits on the shelf
Waiting for the unwary consumer
Often a plump baby boomer
To pick it up
Pour it in a cup.
And pretend.
This ode doesn't make sense and doesn't have an end
Like all those lies we tell ourselves.
This is the false tale o' that drink on the shelves.
~ Athletea
Used to Miss Lisrey
Sat down to a movie
Eating doritos with cheese.
Turned into a dieter
(It was right there inside her)
She took off her poundage with ease.
;)
Lisrey
Athletea 07-25-05, 01:05 AM Ode to Doritos
Doritos
Good eat-o's
But I favor Cheetoes!
~ Athletea
WOW. Y'all can throw down a mean rhyme!
There once was a girl from Nantucket... ha! no, okay seriously now:
There was a big lady from 'Frisco
Who loved fatty foods - even Crisco!
But she joined Diettalk
And she started to walk
Now she's shedding those pounds every day-o!
.
I wonder why my loss will stall
As hard as I workout and try
the fat just stays there and
It makes me say why
Am I fat or just under tall
(not great but time is limited)
Carol
chumlette 07-25-05, 04:44 PM i ate real well
but felt like hell
i ate something crappy
but it didn't make me happy
so what do i do, since i'm feeling laggin'?
i guess i shouldn't wait but get back on the wagon
I wish I may I wish I might
I wish I could Have some pizza tonight!
I know that is sad but it's the best I can do
Renee :D
Athletea 07-25-05, 08:30 PM Ode to Chumlette's Avatar
Chum's little pic
Makes me run away quick.
'Cause I need a break
From that guy eatin' cake.
Ahhhhhh, I-ciiiiinnnnggg!
I can eat cake in August
But it's only July
So, I'll just scram away from that cake-eatin' guy.
~ Anonymous Cake Eater
I met the bf at 109
Slim and trim I was, lookin' fine.
We started to date, into his life I fell.
He cooks like a chef, he lives like a king.
Gourmet dishes full of sugar and cream
Savory entrees, rich sauces, fine wine.
Parties galore. More wine and good food.
Dancing and playing, not a care in the world.
Workouts? Maybe later.
I'm having such fun.
"No thank you????" Nay.
It's, "Hell no, give me more!"
When the clothes don't fit, just buy some more.
And more, and more.
At plus 10 I scoffed, saying "it'll come off fast"
At plus 20 I said, "hmm, might need to start soon"
At plus 30 I stamped my plump little foot.
"Enough is enough!" but still didn't move.
At plus 40 I knew that I needed to change.
Like an overstuffed sausage in old gym clothes I went
Back to the workouts, back to the sweat.
The beloved changed his ways and his style.
Less wine, more water. Less sugar, more fruit.
Less excess, more health. The fine life it is, in so many ways
Just a different shade of fine than he'd ever tried.
20 pounds dropped fast, just like they should.
But the rest, it's here. Stuck fast, still here.
I lift, I jog, I kick, and I box.
I quaff water and chew veggies.
No whites cross my plate.
I don't understand it, but no progress I make.
Maybe someday the last 20 will go.
You'd think four years is ample, but no.
I get frustrated, it's true,
But I'm healthy, too.
Clean natural foods, close to the earth.
Prepared gourmet style, with a focus on health.
That makes me a healthier, happier soul.
Maybe someday the last 20 will go.
If so, or if not, I like who I am.
JoThrive 07-29-05, 10:34 AM A SONG TO SUGAR
Oh, Sugar, sweet Sugar,
I want you to know
I need you, I crave you,
I do love you so.
But Sugar, dear Sugar,
Your love is not free.
Your sweetness hides problems,
Meaning danger for me,
Dear Sugar, sweet Sugar,
I tell you no lie,
I’d eat you, i’d love to,
But then I could die.
So, Sugar, my Sugar,
I do love you so,
But leave me, I beg you,
You’re my blood sugar’s foe.
Yes Sugar, dear Sugar,
You’re poison to me,
Get out of my life now,
Please let me be.
- JoThrive, 2005
sugarplum 07-29-05, 11:39 AM Calc is almost done.
Oh, man, I cannot wait.
For when I am all finished,
my calc book will meet it's fate.
Into the fire, it will go,
and I will watch it burn.
See you NEVER! I will shout!
(but be grateful for what I learned)
My last test is on Monday.
Then I'll be done for good!
"no more teachers, no more books"
And I'll be in a better mood!!!!! :D
