Others are raving over how much slimmer I am. I look in the mirror and think I look almost as fat as before diet and exercise. I see precious little improvement, but others see a big improvement. What's up with this?

I have this problem and I rely on others to help me pick out clothes because I would never buy or wear anything if it was up to me. I don't think anything looks good on me. If you lose all the weight and still don't see it, you might need to seek counseling to avoid developing anorexia and bulimia. it is a long way back, i speak from experience....

wishing you well in recovery.

a) exercise has added "bounce" to your step, which makes you come across as more lively and less slothful than before. This leaves an overall impression of being more fit (fat-wise), the implication being that some of that 'bulk' is muscle.

b) body perception is a tricky thing, and, changes such as losing weight are very slow to be noticed by ourselves and easier for others to see. What would help you overcome this are before and after pictures, in a light outfit or bathing suit, which will be more useful than relying on your memory.

We all have this problem. I know I am not as big as I used to be, but I definately dont feel like I am a size 5, I think of myself more as a size 10. It takes a while for your mind to catch up with your body. Pictures help, or maybe as you lose more weight you can ask the people in your life to point out other people with similar body structures as yours. On other people it always looks much thinenr. And ofcourse realize that losing weight isnt just baout looking good, its about being healthy, and so even if you think you look just as fat, know you are that much heathier.

SA, I know what you mean. I've been trying on a smaller size clothes and they fit, but then I look in the mirror and still see how much work I have to do yet. But I don't let it get me down. I just keep telling myself that I am making progress!
Also by exercising, it tends to improve your posture and your attitude. So you stand straighter, taller, giving others the impression that we are thinner than we are.

You've lost 16 pounds so far. That is wonderful! Keep positive and look at what you have accomplished!
You are doing great! Try not to get discouraged. Celebrate your achievements and keep looking forward! :D

213lbs to 197 is another size and you R happy about it so attitude change will help the fact that you lost weight and feel good and make you glow thats why you cant see it but others can!! I lost only 5lbs and my family has commented that I lost weight and look good and I say THANKYOU!! (but Im really thinking ok I just lost 5lbs) but Im happy about it and I glow now and walk with my head up because I know im going to loose it all.... this time!! So if your happy and positive you will get positive reactions!! keep it up and the more you glow the more that thin you will show!!!! :D
