View Full Version : Escape from the Abyss
CrimsonMoon 09-05-05, 09:36 PM From deep within the infernal abyss of corpulence, amber fingernails claw through the merky mire. A body emerges from the darkenss - a body thick with indulgence, muscle wasted away from veneration to the screen of word processing. Strands of burgandy hair fall across eyes that reveal a mind fried from endless hours of syntax.
But within the ravaged being flickers the heart of a warrioress. And the flame has been rekindled - a flame fanned by inertia.
Crimson Moon is back.
JoThrive 09-05-05, 09:52 PM Hi, Crimson Moon, it's nice to have you back. And I take it you are all rededicated to eating healthy, etc. Good for you.
And the best of luck to you.
Keep smiling -
Corinna 09-05-05, 10:44 PM Hey there, chicky! You've been missed! Welcome back. :)
Corinna
Athletea 09-05-05, 11:57 PM And so, the soul o' the Amethyst Warrioress has been reborn in the burgandy flame, mergin' with that eternal energizing factor o' newfound focus that is known as ... CRIMSON MOONNNN!!!
Glad to see ya back, CM!!!
CrimsonMoon 09-06-05, 12:17 PM Hey A, corrina, and Jo!!! It's good to be back.
Today is off schedule so I didn't get to the workout, but eatings been good. Actually eating for the past 2 weeks has been good but since no workouts didn't lose anything. I have to update my stats - I think I'm 153 right now.
As for my schedule, yes, my problem is my addiction to my computer. The house (and the body) has suffered. So making my computer my reward, I have to clean first, then workout, then have computer. But today, I had to run to the store for some last minute school supplies that I forgot to buy (shows how brain-dead I am - i only had a 3 day weekend and was in Walmart twice) so that zapped one of those things.
The chores are done, but as one can see, I am on the computer - so needless to say, I didn't workout.
Here's to tomorrow :whip: unless i get really lucky and have an easy day at work, then I will do it tonight.
Thanks again for stopping by! It really helps with the motivation. :)
CrimsonMoon 09-07-05, 11:58 AM Sheesh. My house has been so neglected that each room is taking twice as long to clean than normal and so by the time I am done, I am both exhausted and sore. And my comp time running out. So therefore,
I am giving up on trying to work in exercise for this week. By week's end, the house will be clean, and then when I do each room in the morning, I will have time to workout and go on the computer.
My eating will still stay on track and besides, cleaning and scrubbing for an hour have to count as something.
But next week - beware. The demon treadmill will be tamed and the warriroress will attack those dusty dumbells.
CrimsonMoon 09-12-05, 12:33 PM Ha! I did a mile. Huzzah!
I was pretty motivated to go down but really had to force myself to stay on for the whole mile....which really sucks. If it's that hard my first day back, well, that's no at good sign.
But I lifted weights too. Shoulders - 4 sets of 10 reps @ 10lb.
Hey - atleast it's something.
Hey Crimson, nice to see you. I loved your opening post!!! LOL
This will sound crazy but get a timer. In the morning do a basic clean up of morning activites. Then do your exercise. Then set the timer for 1 hour, computer time. Then at the end of that, do some laundry, and one other chore. Then set timer for 1 hour, more computer writing, then have lunch, clean up, go for a walk in the fresh air, set timer(1 hour computer writing), etc, etc.
It really helps. It is a concept from flylady.
See you soon, I hope.
I too like my house to be all nice and clean at all times :)
way to go on getting back into the exercise ! :cheer:
Beth :dn
CrimsonMoon 09-26-05, 11:01 AM Sheesh, i can't believe how winded i feel just going up a flight of steps. This is ridiculous. Only a few months agao, i could do spurts on my treadmill of 6.4 miles an hour. Now...I'm back to the beginning of i can only walk at 3.8. Even just doing one set of weights reps and my heart is pounding.
Well, atleast i'm back into it. Hopefully it won't take to long to get back in shape. I know atleast with the muscle, you can gain it back in 1/3 time. Yay! That should help alot.
Oh and by the way, i was up to 156 lbs. But on Friday when i weighed in i was back at 153. Not that exercise had anything to do with it, because i didn't do any. But i had been sick and didn't eat much. And the last 2 weekends i didn't even binge on junkfood. Just not interested. I hope that feeling sticks around, lol.
Thanks to for stopping by to say Hi!
notevenclose 09-26-05, 08:33 PM Hi Crimson,
I am also getting back into exercising and I can't believe what a difference a few month of inactivity can make. Jeez, you would think I never exercised in my life.
Anyhow, I will make sure to stop in and check your progress.
MERESSA99 10-25-05, 11:54 AM Hey Crimson, just wanted to say Hi...haven't had time to stop in here very much but I am tryin to make time for posting here at least once a week...hahaha...yeah right. It sure does sound good neway!!! Hope all is going well for you, keep your head up, you'll get there sooner or later. That's what I keep telling myself with my roller coaster ride of weightloss. Well, I better get back to work just wanted to stop in and see how it was going. talk to you soon!!!
CrimsonMoon 11-02-05, 12:12 PM OK, i don't think i exercised since my last journal entry, lol. Yea, how is that for short-term motivation.
But then...earlier this week, i walked across a 1/2 a parking lot (slight uphill) across and interesection, and then through another parking lot....and am completely amazed at how winded i was. It was pathetic.
So, what i have done???? I have bought a gym membership - well actually so far, I've only bought a new workout outfit and a DiscMan, but i will be buying the membership tomorrow.
I went there today and checked it out, it's an all women's gym, and the time of day that I will be going, it is dead....there was one person in the cardio room and one person in the weight room. That is soooo awesome. I am so excited.
Ooo, and i also bought some good food to eat....now if I can just get rid of this blasted Halloween candy, and not the way i have been.... X-( Am hoping my son's school is collecting it for the troops again, but he keeps forgetting to ask, lol. (Or maybe he is just telling me he forgets, lol).
Well, gotta run. Thanks to all who have stopped by to say hey!
Wb Crimson,
Good going on getting ready for the gym, now go get that membership.
Just a thought, another lady here has her hubby and son hide certain foods so that she doesn't see them, then they can still have it. I am sure your son would be willing to do that, lol.
Take care and have fun working out.
CrimsonMoon 11-03-05, 01:18 PM OK, so i go to the gym this morning to get the membeship...wearing my new workout outfit...and what do i find....a MAN!!!!!! X-(
This is an ALL women's gym!!!!! And what was this man doing? He was training...another MAN! X-(
GRRRRRRRRR
OK, so he is one of the personal trainers and the other guye is going to be a personal trainer....but still.... X-( why don't they only allow female personal trainers!!!!!!
So then, i was forced to have him walk me around and show me some moves, and he made me lay on a bench....grrr (had i been prepared for this, i would have shaved my legs).
Ok, ok, so i did a really good upper body workout, did over a mile of cardio...and feel really good (except for the guy part)...though i am abit preturbed over the scale. It put me at 10 pounds more what my home scale says. I blew it off, figuring the scale was 10 pounds off, (I mean sheesh, i just weighed myself yesterday) but then later, i went back to see if it calabrated to 0...it did. X-(
Now, granted yesterday was in the nude, and today was with workout outfit and sneakers, but come one, they don't weigh THAT much. And i highly doubt that i could have gained 10 pounds over the summer and stayed in the same jeans...granted they are bit snugger now, but not 15 pounds more (knew that i had gained 5). Hmmmm.
Oooo, i will go jump on my home scale now, since i am still in workout clothes and sneaks.....be right back!
Ok, this is not good. My scale only puts me at 2 1/2 pounds more than yesterday....will need to go on a search for a third opinion. Wish me luck.
monicapink 11-03-05, 06:58 PM WELCOME BACK HOME ...
I hope to see you in chat room some time soon ... KEEP FOCUSING ON THOSE GOALS YOU ARE GOING TO ACHIEVE ..
Remember THIS IS SOMETHING YOU CAN AND WILL ACHIEVE. Have and make it a great day and have a fantastic weekend. I am as always, Monica
2qwerqE 11-03-05, 08:13 PM Hi. I enjoyed your OP and thought I'd pop in for a quick meet.
Oh, come on now. 2 1/2 lbs plus clothing is darn near ten pounds. We all know it is! Besides, 2+ lbs overnight can only mean one thing, (unless you ate about 2700 calories over night; you don't walk and eat in your sleep do you?) and it if you give it 24 hours, you'll shed that water weight. Just you weight --er, I mean wait, and see! Then, watch that sodium intake...
CrimsonMoon 11-04-05, 11:33 AM Ok, so i haven't found a third opinion yet....but not that it really matters. I am whatever i am, and i know where i want to get, so.....
Did a lowerbody and ab workout...and 1 mile on the treadmill. I plan on doing this, 5 days a week, altenating upper and lower body. I have never been one who has been able to sustain long workouts, so hopefully the fact that i am doing it 5x a week will help.
Suprisingly, my upper body is not sore today, though that might mean i will be killer sore tomorrow, or it may mean i was smart and didn't over do it....we shall see. My lower body is sore, but i think that is becuase i worked it and then did the treadmill, lol.
Well, off to clean my house...am supposed to do that before i come on the comp, but i needed to recover. (Yawn)
Have a great weekend everyone!
Athletea 11-05-05, 11:20 AM Hi, Crimson!!! I'd have been perturbed, too, finding men in an all-women's gym. If one wanted to be in a co-ed gym, then one would go to a co-ed gym. Maybe you should call and tell them that. :) But congrats on a good workout anyhow. Hope you aren't worryin' about the Demon Scale :lil: disparity anymore or a pound or so here and there. It's how these Scale Demons operate ... they all work together to drive us nuts ... they're just playin' with your head. Ignore. You're doin' great!
CrimsonMoon 11-07-05, 12:55 PM Hey A - glad you stopped by!
Ok, got my third opinion....sorta. Went back to that blasted gym scale this morning and hopped on (it's become personal) and lo and behold, i lost 8 pounds over the weekend of eating fast food, halloween candy, and Resses PB ice cream.
OK, so anway, now i will share the numbers, lol. My home scale says that i am 155.6. The gym scale said i was 166 X-( . Now the gym scale has got it's head back in the right place (it knew i was hiding a sledge hammer in my locker) and decided to tell me that i was 158. I can live with that. I will still go by my home scale, ofcrouse, hehe, but atleast they are within a few pounds of each now.
OK, this was a cool weekend. I bought a new weightloss journal (a hot pink notebook that says "beauty school dropout" on the front) and 4 pastel colored gel pens to write all my stuff in. Took my measurements, (not commenting) my bf%, and outlined my cardio and ST routine. Fun!!!!
Anyways, today at the gym. I did my killer upperbody workout. Then went back downstairs to the cardio room and did 1 mile on the treadmill and then totally took mysefl by surprise and jumped on a bike for another mile. Huzzah!
Only one problem so far.....i feels UGLY. I intentionally dont' have any mirrors at home and mirrored walled gyms are not heatlhy for my body-image. I be alot more giggly than i realized. I am trying to tell myself that i don't care, and that that is the reason i am there, and that in a few months, i won't be ugly. So....just need to continue to have patience and one day, while i am facing that blasted mirror while on the treadmill, instead of seeing giggly rolls boucning all over the place, i will see nice, toned muscles lookin really good.
All right, take care all. Tomorrow will be lower body...not sure if the legs will be able to handle both bike and treadmill after that, but we shall see.
Side note - it amazes me how out of shape I am. I can walk a mile on a treadmill at 4.0 on a flat incline with no problem, even doing spurts of running up to 5.5 mph, but i can't leasuirely walk a slight uphill without getting winded. So have decided, that each week, i am going to adjust the treadmill incline by 1%,still walking a mile at 4.0 mph.
Then, when i got off the bike, i could not believe how sore my butt and thighs were....i guess becuase i don't use those muscles in that way (haven't been on a bike in many, many years.) So, after my "hilly" course at level 4 becomes a piece of cake, i will upgrade, to level 5 and so forth.
I count miles, because i refuse to count calories. I wish to get toned and cardiovascularlly fit....not go crazy trying to burn X amount, only eat X amount, etc. Plus, it just gives me this great feeling to know how far i can go and watch that become greater distances over time.
Thansk again to all who have stopped by. I will check in tomorrow. Take care.
CrimsonMoon 11-09-05, 10:42 PM Tuesday i was way too sore to go to the gym, so igave the bod an extra day to rest. Today, i went - did a killer lower body workout and once again did a mile on the treamill and then a mile on the bike. Huzzah!
I love my gym. :)
CrimsonMoon 11-10-05, 12:27 PM Today was hard. I barely was able to motivate myself to get to the gym, and then even when i got there had to really motivate myself to do my whole routine. I just feel really down...probaby hormonal...i am close to that time of month. But i feel like i could just curl up on the couch and sleep the day away....of course i would have 2 bosses that would be quite unpleased with that.
Anyway, i did my upper body workout, a mile on the treadmill, and a mile on the bike. So, i am still on track.
CrimsonMoon 11-11-05, 11:44 AM Well, it looks like i lost a pound....yea. The gym scale now says 157. (Forgot to check home scale). I assume due to all the wieghts i am lifting that i should be quite happy with that.
Here is my normal routine:
Cardio:
Mon thru Fri
1 mile Treadmill Flat @ 4.0 / 1 mile Recumbant Bike Hills @ level 4
Monday / Wednesday / Friday - Upper Body
Strenght Training:
Shoulders (want to build mass)
front lateral raise - 3 sets X 6 reps (FW - 20 lbs)
side lateral raise - 3X6 (FW - 20 lbs)
shoulder press - 3X6 (machine - 30 lbs)
Back
Upright Row - 2X10 (50 lbs)
Chest
Press - 2X10 (30 lbs)
Biceps
Curls - 2X10 (FW - 30lbs)
Triceps
machine - 2X10 (70lbs - it's a very easy machine, if i used FW, it
would only be about 20 - 30 lbs but they hurt my elbows)
And if i am not in too much pain by this time:
Pull-ups - 2X10 (115 lbs - the less weight under your own body weight
the better)
Tuesdays / Thursdays - Lower Body
Glutes - 3X10 (87.5 - 100 lbs)
Hamstrings - 3X10 (80 lbs)
Inner / Outer Thigh - 2X10 (70/80 lbs)
Calves (seated machine) 2X10 (135 pounds)
Abs
upper 2X10 (100 lbs)
obliques 2X10 (40lbs)
lower (diagonal crunches) 1 X 25
I have no idea if my weights are impressive or not, though i doubt it as i am just starting out, but i am trying to build major definition and tone (going for that sculpted look) so i make sure that i can barely lift the last rep in each set (fatiguing the muscle). All i did was experiment my first day with how heavy i could lift and keep in proprer form and then jotted it down so that i could remember. When the muscle is no longer fatiqued I will add more weights. Also, when i am no longer so sore the next day, i woudl like to up the shoulder exercises to 4 sets instead of just 3.
As for Cardio, becuase i hate it so much, is the reason that i do so little. I plan on always only doing 1 mile, so when i am no longer panting, i will raise the incline on the treadmill by 1% and/or up the pace. Same for the bike, I will keep at the one mile on hills but up the level when my things are no longer burning as much as they do now.
MERESSA99 11-14-05, 09:59 AM I'm glad to see your doing wonderfully with your workouts these days. Keep up the great work and you'll sure be at your goal in no time the rate your going. I do wish I could say the same for myself but I am taking it one day at a time and hoping I will keep my appetite for exercising 8-| Well, I gotta rush just wanted to stop by to see how you were doing and you've motivated me to once again feed my appetite today. Have a great week and keep doing what your doing.
CrimsonMoon 11-14-05, 09:35 PM Hi Meressa, wonderful to see you. I am motivated right now becuase i bought a gym membership. And i am really hoping this motivation stays becuase it is a year's membership, lol. (I tried for monthly but they didn't offer it)
Ok, here is my eating schedule for now. Keep in mind that i do not diet, and am NOT looking for suggestions, lol, i am very happy with it, and if I lose slower becuase of it, so be it. :)
Early Morning - Wawa 16oz English Coffee Cappacino (gotta have my coffee)
Breakfast - bowl of Special K Protien (2 servings w/ 2 % milk)
After Workout Snack - Cocktail shrimp w/ marinara sauce
Lunch - EAS Cookies and Cream Shake
Dinner - Chicken (and either salad or pasta w/ sauce)
Dessert - Strawberry Shortcake (w/ whip cream and chocolate drizzle)
The only thing I am keeping track of is protein, which is approx 80 grams, i think. I do this to feed the muscle that i am hoping to build/tone.
Ooo, i am happy to announce though that i had to up my weigts on my shoulders today - yippee. They are the only muscle group i am actually trying to build mass in, so i am quite pleased. I am not up to 50 pounds on the shoulder press, but still only at 20 lbs (pair of 10 lb dumbells) with the free weights.
Oh, and i had to up my cardio routine too. Though i am only doing 2 miles (1 on treadmill and 1 on bike) I want it to atleast last me 20 - 25 minutes. And I was almost done my treadmill mile in little over 10, so i upped the incline for the last half.
I despataretly want a new workout outfit....I want green cameo pants with a black shirt or vice versa and maybe black hi-top sneakers if they look like boots, lol. I think that would be cute. Then too, i think i will wait till my arms are really looking toned. Right now, they are a flabby mess. Bounce, bounce, boucne on the treamill (hate those mirrors, lol). Can't wait till they can't jiggle anymore.
CrimsonMoon 11-15-05, 12:28 PM Same old, same old. Did my routine. Ooo, but i did lose another pound, according to the gym scale, so i am now down to 156 (which should make the home scale say 154. So i basically lost 2 pounds last week, not just one. Huzzah.
CrimsonMoon 11-28-05, 12:19 PM Ok, i really really hate scales. They suck. They're stupid. And they don't know what they are talking about.
So I ate ham every day since Thursday (don't like turkey) and I am very well aware that Ham has lots of salt and therefore one will retain water weight, so when I jumped on the scale and it said 160 (up 5 pounds) I blew it off.
BUT....then after my weight workout, I jumped back on, and it said 154.5 - saying that I lost 1/2 a pound last week. That made me happy.
BUT....then after my cardio workout, i jumped back on again, and it said 161. Grrrrr. X-( What is up with that?
Why am I jumping on the scale so much? Hehe. I can't help it. I worked out all last week and didn't really eat tooo much junk so I was just kinda hoping it was going to show me 2 pounds lost. I never expected it to hve a mental disorder.
CrimsonMoon 12-01-05, 12:14 PM Ok, i am going to totally revamp my workout routine. I've been hitting the gym, 4-5x a week for a month now, and haven't lost a thing. In fact, i think i've gained. Possibly all muscle, but still, i think i am beginning to look bulkier....more than before.
Grrrrr. X-(
Ok, so this is my new plan. I'm gonna lift alot less weights. I will pick a wieght that fatiques the muscle on the 15th rep, and for now, i think i will only do 2 sets. I seriously want to lose any added muscle bulk that I may have built.
I was in a cardio class today and yesterday (got sick of the treadmill) and was amazed at how big my butt looked in the walled mirrors. Yuk!!! And it occured to me that I am doing a total of 3 sets of 10 reps on one butt machine at 87.5 pounds per cheek!!!! Hello! Duh! What part of me thought that would slim me down???
New Routine:
Monday, Wednesday, Friday - Upper & Lower body Workout
Tuesday, Thursday - Cardio Class (1 hour & includes abs)
CrimsonMoon 12-04-05, 12:49 AM Ok, ok...so I was driving around (my job) and went to adjust my rear view mirror, and saw this huge lump running across the back of my neck. I think, my gosh, i am so fat I have a roll behind my neck??? So i touch it...it's hard as a rock!!!! I've built up my trapizius muscle - eeewwww!!!!
So after panicking and trying to think of the fastest way to lose muscle, it suddenly occurs to me, duh...cardio w/o wieghts. So for the rest of December, it's Cardio classes Mon-Fri and NO WEIGHTS!!!
Forget this soldier/warrioress stuff. I want to be slim and tone. It never occured to me that what I was doing would bulk me up, i thought I would just slim down faster. Sheesh.
Ok, so, it's cardio for the rest of the month. Maybe longer. Till I stop losing weight. Then I will start with the weights again, but only for toning.
Hopefully since I actually have the opportunity to take cardio classes and aren't going to be stuck on the treadmill all the time, I will be able to stick with this. Then again, as long as I see results, I'm sure I will. :D

CrimsonMoon 12-15-05, 12:03 PM Woo-Hoo! I think I finally found something that works. (Must've been all those threats with the sledgehammer) or maybe it's the massive amount of cardio I'm doing, lol. Imagine...me....doing all that cardio.
Though to be honest, I am not sure how long it's going to last. Right now I am doing pretty good but I can already feel the urge to blow one of the segments off.
This is what I do - Monday thru Friday
1/2 mile sprint at 5.0 (with a burst for the last 1/10 at 6.0)
1 mile walk at 4.0 (the fastest I can go and still hold a novel steady enough to read)
1/2 mile sprint at 5.0 (with a burst for the last 1/10 at 6.0)
20 minutes on the bike - random (hilly) Level 4
All that only takes me about 35 minutes, which yes I know, isn't very much, BUT this is from the person who usually would only do a 1 mile walk/jog which would only take 12-14 minutes....so for me, it is a big increase.
AND...it seems to be working. I got on the scale yesterday (mid-week) and I was down to 154.2!!! Last week, the scale was still saying 156 and often migrated to 158. I am pretty sure I can keep this up as long as I am losing regularly. I would love to see 153 or less by Friday morning.
I also do yoga almost evey morning as well...but I do that just becuase it is so relaxing and stretches me out. I do it at home before heading to the gym. This used to be when i would nap but I've been going to be earlier so that I am not so tired. When I come home from the gym, I clean the house and update here, then go to work. After work, I cook dinner and then work on my book until bedtime (or read or watch a movie depending on my exhuastion factor). Not a bad routine. Hopefully I will stick to it as the house looks great.
Congratulations Crimson!!!! And yes 35 minutes is just great!!! You are obviously working hard during those 35 minutes, that is what is doing it!!! People seem to think that you have to work hours and hours, well that is just for those TV shows where they lose extreme amounts a week, it isn't real life. So, keep up the good work!!!
That sounds like a really hard workout to me. And I think 35 minutes is fine.
I usually only do 30 minutes of aerobic at-a-time, myself. Sometimes I do that 2-3 times in a single day, but doing a single set for more than an hour drives me nuts.
It is not the aerobic conditioning part. It just starts to become a big time-sucking drudgery. The only thing that I can do more than an hour is road bicycle through the countryside. The change in scenery, hills, etc. make it bearable.
I can't run for that long, mainly because I don't cover enough ground for the scenery to change enough. Keep it up!

CrimsonMoon 01-24-06, 11:56 AM I am so freakin' discouraged. I have been working out religiously now since the first week of November. This is my 13th week. I speed walk on the treadmill for 2 1/2 to 3 miles 5x a week. I lift for my upperbody 3x a week. For many of those weeks, I was also doing 40 minutes of yoga 4-5x a week. I have cut all white bread out of my diet. I have severely limited any type of junkfood, even on the weekends. I eat lots of protein and complex carbs. Drink water. Etc.
I started out at 158. Last week, the lowest i have seen the scale, it said 151. Today, the scale said 154. :c(
I started in November so that there would be no way I wouldn't reach my goal weight by Summer. I would really love to wear a bathing suit and not hide my hips and thighs in a cover up. I have taken my measurements and have not lost ANYTHING in the lower body.
I am severly depressed and have lost all motivation to work out at all. :c(
MERESSA99 02-22-06, 10:58 AM I completely understand what you are going through; I've lost all motivation, as well...but hopefully, once it gets warm outside again my motivation will return as I hope yours does. Talk to you soon.
