I hate cloths shopping I went out today to try and find a pair of jeans to wear to this safety day thing we are having for work and I went to the mall for about 3 hours and walked out with nothing. I know I went into every store and tried on every pair of jeans no matter what the style and I felt worse with every pair I tried on. Once I got into my car I wanted to cry and scream even give up. But I know if I do I will feel worse so I came home and ate a healthy meal but still feel really bad about how I look in cloths.

Aw, Kim, don't be so hard on yourself.
We all have to have clothes to wear DURING the journey too.
Count your successes and keep moving forward. You'll get there.
We're all losing weight and very well aware of our good points and trouble spots.
But we need to learn how to love our bodies no matter what shape they have.

Me? I hit the thrift stores for now. No sense wasting big money on clothes I don't plan on keeping forever. But I do find some that I DO plan on keeping forever no matter what size I go down to.

And sometimes, just sometimes, I'll find a pair of jeans that someone else has broken in already that really accentuates my good points and down plays by bad points.

Just dive in, buy some jeans and when you put them on, tell yourself "I am the best I can be today."

You're doing something to solve your problem. It won't happen over night, but you will see progress in time. And in doing something and not giving up, you really ARE the best you can be!

Jeans are a hard purchase. It me 3 months to find the right pair of jeans. I finally found them at target "Blu" for $21. The IN got a 2nd pair 6 months later 4 size bigger then what I get in slacks. They are low rise, boot flare jeans form Lane Bryant. They cost $54 but they make my ass looke 99% better so it was cheaper then plastic surgery.

LisaD, lol! That's a lot of money o make your butt look good!
I found some Tommy Hilfiger Jeans this weekend at a thrift store for $6.
Still had the store tag on them. Never worn! And they make me look shapely and thin! That's my hot find of the week. Gotta check out ALL the thrift stores. Sometimes certain ones have better selections. I don't have a lot of luck at Good Will, but there is a privately owned thrift store here that I love to go to as well. They donate proceeds to unwed mothers and a lot of rich folks prefer to donate their stuff to them. So there's usually lots of name brand stuff, a lot of it brand new.
Salvation Army always has what I need and they do not over price stuff if it is brand new like the other places do. I like them the best.

Well a lot of those place staffed by volunteers. Giver their friends and family a heads up first so a lot of the great stuff is gone before the regular people inflitrate the store.

I like going to the name brand stores because I can try 3-4 sizes at one time. Also, I get deals to. A pair of St. Johns Bay jean peddle pushers for $6.77. But if I look like I got a new ass without losing a lb that is worth $54 for me.

Don't forget to look at the bargin racks of some of the bigger department stores. My personal favorite is Kohl's. I'll go in and check regularly, sometimes I walk away empty handed but sometimes I get a great deal shopping off their 70% off rack. Patience is a virtue!

Hey Tannie,

I also hate jeans shopping. I have short legs and a long torso, so most jeans don't fit me very well, or I just hate the way I look in them. I'd suggest to try on different cuts, bootleg cut, straight cut, baggy cut, wide leg, regular (short or long, depending on your height) and try different waist cuts (ultra low, low or waist). It's like this crazy mission you MUST go on. When you find the right brand....stick with it! It took me forever to find the right style. For myself, I happily found the best fit at Old Navy: Regular Boot Cut, Just Below Waist (not those ultra low cut hip huggers).

Good luck in finding those jeans! Remember, it's a mission we must endure!:D

Well after I lost my 40 lbs my butt went with it so the gitano jeans that I wore and bought for 8 years $14.99 everyday at K-mart no longer fit. I use to by those off the shelf and I was good to go. But as you lose the boday changes so I say the key is to always try on before you leave the store. If you don't look awesome in the store, you will not look better at home.

Well I never did buy any jeans ended up goinging in a pair I had. But for now I will wait till I lose a bit more weight before I go back and try again to find the perfect pair of jeans,,,LOL. My problem is I an short with small legs but a thick waist and a belly to boot from having my darling babies (12 and 18 now). But I know with losing this weight and exercising I will one day go into the store and come home with some great jeans. So till then thanks for all the feed back. :)

Kim,
One thing i am learning - the hard way - back when I weiged close to 200 pounds, I put on the usual "Uniform" - loose pants and a long shirt to "Hide the fat". And now that I'm losing, I try to find clothes that flatter my figure.

But what I'm learning is... It doesn't really matter what you wear. People will see your shape. So the perfect jeans don't make a big deal. People will notice you are losing weight even if you don't have butt shaping jeans. Because with exercise, you find yourself standing straighter and the new shape that your body is taking on will be able to shine through whatever you are wearing!

Tommy Hilfiger and DKNY have some great stretch jeans. I shopped at the factory outlet stores alot when I was changing sizes a lot and passed them down to my friends. DKNY jeans that sell at department stores are about $20 cheaper at the outlet store, and I'm usually a size smaller in these pants than I am in cheaper brands.

I have great luck with Tommy H. jeans or Ralph Lauren jeans as well...always find them on the sale rack though, or you'll pay a ton. But they look great.

Clothes shopping can be hard. Expecially you know when you have to try on the clothes and your self esttem goes down when you can't fit it and your mom just looks at you with disappointment or is that just with me I hate trying on clothes in stores I'd rather buy stretch jeans because they are so comfortable. One of my favorite places to buy jeans is at a store called Buckle. They are in the malls here in Georgia. They have a great selection of jeans (low rise, straight leg, boot cut, etc.) and the styles are awesome. The prices run anywhere from $30 up, but all of my favorite jeans come from there.

But, if you are transitioning sizes, I agree with everyone else, stick to the clearance and thrift store shopping. Kohl's, Marshall's, Ross, and TJ Maxx have great prices on clothes and you can usually go to their stores and find something you love at a great price.

After ten years of shopping in the plus size department of the store... I took myself shopping this weekend at the luxury shopping outlet center of Woodbury Commons.

I kind of went a little crazy there... spent $800. Everything fit! I needed new clothes because everything wintery in my closet is way too big now... and since I don't really think I'll get much smaller, what the hell...

The most fun was being able to fit into pretty italian designer clothes!
