millie47 01-05-06, 09:52 PM 8-| :help: Wow I can't belive I let myself gain so much weight back. A little over 2 years ago I weighed 330 then last year I got down to 179, now I am at 261. I know what I have to do to take the weight off and pretty much would know how to stay near what I should. SO WHY, WHY8-| 8-| don't I do it????? Sometimes I wonder where is your head at!
( excuse )Last year I was walking 2-4 miles a day, eating healthy, I felt the best I have in many years. Then my knees started hurting so bad that i gave up year. After giving up the walking guess I thought why eat healthy :o . Makes no sense.
I have to have both of my knees replaced. But Dr. said longer I can wait and more of the weight I can take off before the surgery the better off I will be. The knees will last longer. I hope to have the surgery this summer.
Now I need to find some form of exercise that will not hurt the knees much??. I wish I knew how to swim.
Now to top all of this my husband was sent to Iraq. So It is up to me and my two sons to get me through this surgery. And my 20 year old may be going into the navy. That will leave just me and my 16 year old.So the more weight i get off before the surgery the better off I will be. I am going to put everything I have into doing this. But I know I will have hard times ahead with many bumps. So I am sure I will me at DT looking for support a lot. I know I sure need all I can get, lol.
So far this week have a good start. I am slowly tring to work back into the right frame of mind. Wish me luck everyone.
JoThrive 01-05-06, 10:10 PM Hi, Millie:
Nice to see you posting again. You know that you will find lots of support and helpful suggestions here at Diettalk. Just keep posting, and we will keep answering.
It is such a difficult problem, losing weight. We all know what we should be doing, but there is this gap between the knowing and the doing. That is because we are human. But we must do the best we can.
You do have a lot on your plate, don't you. But it is so important that you look after yourself and get yourself as healthy as possible.
You can do water aerobics even though you don't know how to swim. It is good exercise and will not hurt your knees like walking will. Is there a pool somewhere near where you live? Just getting in the pool and splashing around is good exercise. And if you can find a water aerobics class that would be even better.
I certainly wish you the best of luck as you work to make yourself as healthy as possible.
Blanche 01-05-06, 10:48 PM Hi Millie! I understand how you feel - I gained everything back and more after injuries stopped me from walking. But you have started again which is great! Can you walk in the pool - it can be exercise without swimming.
monicapink 01-05-06, 11:41 PM WELCOME BACK HOME MILLIE ...
You know that as a member of our DT family WE'RE HERE TO SUPPORT EACH OTHER. The wonderful thing about our family is WE DON'T JUDGE BUT GIVE ONLY POSITIVE AND LOVING ENCOURAGEMENT.
We both know THAT YOU CAN AND WILL ACHIEVE THE GOALS YOU'VE SET FOR YOURSELF. Take it one day at a time -- one meal at a time. HERE'S TO YOUR ONGOING ACHIEVEMENTS. I am as always, Monica
Hi! Can feel for you regarding the leg pain. Sure kept me off my feet a couple years ago. It is hard to be active when in pain. I see some others beat me to the suggestion of water aerobics. I took that a few years ago and really enjoyed it. They also have those things for water jogging. You don't have to swim. This thing you strap around you holds you up and you just move your legs like you are walking/running. I did that a few times and it is quite a workout! Best of luck to you! We are here to support you!
millie47 01-06-06, 09:01 AM WOW is't so nice to have so many posting to me!
Jo,Thanks for posting. You are so right,we are all human. Yes I belong to the Y.M.C.A. I will check out the classes there.
BLANCHE, thanks for your support!I can't understand at times why we let our selfs gain back, when we know better. Guess that why we are human.
Monica, Loved seeing your post. You are so right about D.T. I would be lost with out it!
Susan, Loved reading your post, THANKS.hope you have over came your leg pain. I am going to check out the water abrobics.
THANKS EVERYONE for posting, yall help to keep me going!!!
Weighed this morning and lost 2.8 pounds. That is a good start . I know by keeping in the right frame of mind helps a lot. I will make this post short. Got to take my mom to the store, so i will post again later.
Wow! Congrats on the loss! Good luck with the water aerobics. I sometimes wish I lived closer to a city that offered those things. I could take one in after school, but it would make getting home SO late. Plus with the h.s. swim team starting up, that makes any water classes later than 6:30 Can't afford to drive back in. Hope it works out for you. Have a good day.
Millie,
Congrats on the loss!!! That is terrific!!!
Hope you find an aerobics class. I was thinking that pilates would be good for you too. Just a thought.
Millie: Nice to see you back here...It is a good place to kind of keep us grounded in our journey...:) also congrats on your loss..That is a great start? Water aerobics is a good exercise..very easy on joints etc..or if you swim..swimming...
Thanks for visiting my journal...will keep tabs on you:)
Lulu
millie47 01-06-06, 10:43 PM Hi Every one,
Susan, Thanks for posting.I will let you know when i find something out about the water aerobics. Sure hope i like it. You must work with the schools also, I know how you feel about going back in then it is getting late when you get home. I also with with the schools.
NANCY, Thanks for stopping in.YOU KNOW I don't know anything about palates.Guess I will have to check that out.Hope I want need to get on the floor, want be able to get up.( can't get on my knees, painnnn ,lol.)
Lulu, How Great to see your post. Wish I knew how to swim. I am a chicken to even try ,lol.Happy to hear you will be keeping tabs on me. I need all I can get, lol.
While I did get some walking in today. Knees did not do to bad. Had to take my mom to 3 different stores. She loves to shop. So at least I did not sit as much. Also rode my bike for 10 min. which so far has not made my knees hurt to bad. Will see how I do tonight, pain wise.My bike is the kind where you are leaning back so it takes a lot of pressure off of my knees. So I am tiring to go slow at it to see how the knees hold out.
I did real well with the calories and fat intake.
Had 1,345 calories, 30 fat grams. So not to bad.
Well will go read some other journals, it helps to keep me going.
have a great day!
Millie: i learned to swim at 58..LOL..what fun it is even to jump off the diving board..come on girl you can do it too...Seriously though water aerobics is a great workout...
You had a super day today...Another one tomorrow..:)
Take care
Lulu
Hi Millie. Since you stopped in at my journal to say hello, I thought I'd track yours down. Anytime we have pain to deal with and overcome, it's tough to do what we need to do. Hopefully, you'll fly through the knee replacements. I have a friend with rheumatoid arthritis who did great through both her knee replacements. Hope the water aerobics work for you. I'm a non-swimmer (afraid of the water in my face) but I've seen the water aerobics and they seem to not require the ability to swim (or the need to get water in your face - lol). Good luck on that working out.
Hi Millie! gosh I had forgotten about pilates until I read Nancy's suggestion. It is similar to yoga. Yeah, you probably have to get on the floor. I have never done it, but it is supposed to be good. Lulu's suggestion of taking swimming lessons is good, too. I also took some late in life. You have 1-1 coaching and it usually is not too expensive. You would get lots of exercise in, also. Isn't is nice that so many people are thinking of you!!!?? LOL Sure hope you find something you enjoy. Well done on your calories. I amhaving a hard time in that area, lately. Maybe getting back to work Monday will help. At least my sugar levels have been OK!
Oh, I did not find a dress. :( Nothing much to look at. So I went ONLINE - AGAIN. Found a black skirt and ordered it. Not quite what I wanted, but will have to do. Will probably get more use out of this, anyway. The shower was very nicely done. Was nice to get out for a bit.
Enjoy your weekend!!
millie47 01-07-06, 08:17 PM Well so far have had another good day. I even did some good house cleaning today, got all the floors cleaned.
I have had 1,265 calories today. Had 30 grams of fat. Rode my bike just a little over a mile today. So I do feel like I have moved up some with burning a little more calories. So far the knees are not to bad, Maybe beause I am taking breaks in between doing everything. But if that is working (good) lol.
Lulu, thanks for posting. You are cute and a brave lady @58 you learned to swim! I guess I should try. I will be 50 in March, So I guess I should not be a chicken, lol. Thanks for your surpport.I think we both will have a great year for weight loss.
Kerri, So happy to see your post. You are so right with pain it makes the exercise harder. When I said that to the O.Dr. he said then you need to eat a little more less (well). like your friend I too also have rheumatoid arthritis, that is what is killing my joints. Dr does have me on good meds. now so that is helping. You sound like me, I don't like getting water in my face ,lol. Guess I should learn.
Hi Susan,Well guess I will not do pilates I would not be able to get off the floor, that would be a site for sore eye's, lol.
Happy to hear you found a dress for the wedding. I bet you will look pretty.
Thanks everyone for keeping a eye on me it really dose help alot. This way I can play on the computer and not eat. It gives me more to do.
Hope everyone has a great day!!!
Millie: I give you permission to have a few more calories.....about 100 or so...I don't know if you use Fitday.com but you can log in all you do like floors etc... 1 mile on bike all that..driving the car for 1 hour etc...and that counts as exercise...
Good for you and we look for another good day tomorrow..
Lulu
millie47 01-08-06, 08:56 PM Lulu thanks for stopping to post. I did have a few more calories yesterday. I always save a little for a snack at night So I had some jello ,sugar free and apple. It was gooooood to ,lol.
I do us fit day some just can't seem to learn how to use it very good. I am trying a trail version of weight by date, I really like that! It has everything I want. I usually keep it all wrote down in my notebook. But this is easer for me
I Have had another good day. ( Thank you God) ( He helps a lot)
So far I have had , 1,355 calorie's
Have a apple for later
Plan to go ride my bike for 15 min.
So far mt knees are not doing to bad. I guess with the Dr. taking me off of work has helped a lot with the pain. Also now I have more time to cook health meals.
Got to get to bed early today, I have a eye appt. tomorrow.
Hope everyone reading this journal has a GREAT WEEk!
What a successful day for you!!! Glad to read your legs were not bothering you. It is always easier to feel more active when there is NO pain. Hope you have a great week.
JoThrive 01-08-06, 10:01 PM Hi, Millie:
Thanks for visiting my journal. I see you have had a successful day. Good for you. Just keep taking it a day at a time, and you will reach your goal.
Keep smiling -
aria2000 01-09-06, 08:58 AM Hello Millie and thanks for visiting my journal!
Have a great day!
millie47 01-09-06, 11:29 PM Hi Everyone,
Well Had a good day food wise. But thats it. I had a Eye Dr. Appt. today. I have had Glaucoma for about 6 years now. I take 2 kinds of eye drops twice a day. Dr. ran a lot of test and told me I have lost more of my outter vision. He said that I will most likly have to give up my job, ( I drive a school bus). He is sending me to a specail in Grand Rapids ( is a 1 hour drive from here.) So That ruin my day. I have the appt. on Jan. 26 at 1:00 pm.I tell you between needing both of my knees replaced and this, I could just scream!
But I am not going to give in and eat, like I do most of the time. Because I know I have to get this weight off to save on the new knees when i get them and will have to keep it off. I know only I can do this!!
Ok so much for all of that. I husband called last night at 2:am , then ask me why i was sleeping , I laughed and said well here it is 2:am .Of course he said sorry, lol. I keep forgetting about the time difference there and here in Iraq.
Hi Susan, thanks for posting. You are so right it is easier when there is no pain. When is the wedding you are going to? I know you will look very pretty.
Hi JOJO,Happy to see your post, thanks for your support.
Hi Aria,Your welcome, I enjoyed reading your journel! Thanks for stopping.
1/9/06
1,385 calories.
20 min. of biking
Have a great week all!
aria2000 01-10-06, 08:55 AM Millie, I am so sorry to hear about your vision problem.
Good for you that you did not give in to food, under the circumstances!
I did not realize that your husband was in Iraq! That must be very difficult for you.
Funny story, about the phone call! :)
Hi Millie,
Was just reading a bit of your journal. Life isn't always easy eh? But I see that you are doing great anyways. You are a strong woman, I can tell. It's hard to maintain the weight, been there done that in the last few years.
Hope you have a great day.
Maryse
JoThrive 01-10-06, 02:36 PM Hi, Millie:
My husband also has glaucoma and copes with the eye drops, too. It would be tough for you if you have to give up your job as a schol bus driver. I sure hope it doesn't come to that.
But eating never solves these kinds of problems. I am so glad you are firmly concentrating yourself on the long range need to lose weight. Just think, when that nice husband of yours gets home from Iraq, he will be so surprised to see a new skinny wife.
Take it a day at a time, and success will be yours. I'm cheering you onward.
Keep smiling -
Hi Millie: i am sorry to hear about your vision problem too.. and I know you will not give into food..It does not solve anything just makes things worse...I have taken on the attitude that we are not going to have a famine..so that helps me to know there will always be food there..it is just I do not have to ingest it all today..
Thanks for your on going support...It means a lot to me..and i will be back..:)
Lulu
millie, just saw you are in Muskegon, MI. I am originally from MI. I grew up in a small town near Lansing. Have not been to Muskegon in many years, but remember it as a beautiful place. I think I camped with some friends there a long time ago.
Sorry to read about your eyesight. My aunt is dealing with that. I know she is putting drops in, also.
Glad to read you are not letting this turn you to food. A lot for you to deal with right now. Stay strong. Will be thinking of you. Hope Wed. is good to you.
millie47 01-11-06, 04:43 PM Hi Everyone,
Sorry I did not get to post yesterday, could not get internet to work. I was at hosptail most of day my mom had surgery. She is doing good and should get out tomorrow.
I am still hanging in there eating healthy and have started to try and do a little exercing with the walk away the pounds tape.I did a whole mile, then stop and just did another mile of the upper body with 1 lb. weights. I did not work as hard as they did on the tape. I need to go slow and I don't want to set my knees to hurting much more than they already do. SO FAR SO GOOD!
I pray that it will stay that way at least until I can get enough off to have the knees replaced. More I can get off the better for me when i have the surgery,so Doc says.
Aria, Thanks for posting. You are so right, It is going to be rough. I just hope I can stay strong and stick with my healthy eating.
Maryse, Thanks so much for your support. I need All I can get.I will have to get over and read your journal, it also helps me.
JOJO,Thanks for postingYou are right over eating will not solve my health promblems, It will just make it worst. Your post got me so tickeldwhen i read what you said about when my husband gets home, ( a Skinny wife, lol)(I wish)
LuLu,Thanks for being here for me. I sure am glad yall have faith in me. Because I sure don't at times. I know how easy it is for me to go back to my old ways. Loved the remark about famine, lolol, so true.
Hi Susan,Thanks for your on goingsupport. If you are ever back up this way ,you will have to let me know and maybe we can meet some where. You are right it is pretty here. As you already know WE HAVE ALL 4 SEASON'S.
Ok Yesterday I has 1,385 calories. bikes for 10 min.
today 1/11/06 I will have 1,390 . After supper if I go over will come back and edit. I did the W.A.T. P. tape 1mile and upper body 1 mile.
Hope everyone has a wonderful day!!! Thanks for being here with me.
Keep it up lady..You are doing just super..:)
Lulu
Hi Millie. Sorry to read about your vision issues. It's stressful when a health issue might end your job or career. My husband deals with that when he is not keeping his sugars in check - which, unfortunately, is more often than not. You seem to be coping well, though, and sticking to your plan. Good for you! Hang in there and keep posting. You have a whole lot of people cheering you on.
monicapink 01-11-06, 07:18 PM Dear Millie,
I wanted to respond to your previous post ... I'm glad your mother is out of the hospital and recovering.
Insofar as the opthamologist statement insofar as cataracts, I believe I understand and can relate :console: as to where you're coming from. AND I BELIEVE YOU'RE TO BE APPLAUDED for controlling your food intake. We all seem to follow the same pattern whenever SOMETHING GOES WRONG IN OUR WORLD. So I SAY TO YOU YOU HAVE SHOWN YOU HAVE THE POWER AS WELL AS THE ABILITY TO MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICES :cheer:
The only thing I would say to you is this KEEP FOCUSING ON THAT ULTIMATE GOAL because YOU HAVE THE ABILITY TO SUCCEED. I know it .. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF. Have and make it a great evening. I am as always, Monica
Hi Millie,
Thanks for stopping by my journal.
That's great that you are exercising, it's not always easy, but every little bit counts. I have to keep telling myself that all the time too.
Have another great day eating wise.
Maryse
Hi Millie, glad to read you are doing well with food. Hope your mother is recovering from surgery. Yes, I know the beautiful seasons of MI. I miss fall the most as NE does not have the variety of trees that MI has. But I have learned to look at the subtle changes in color out here. I also miss all the lakes. My parents have a cabin on Crystal lake near Carson City. I spent many summers there and try to take my boys back every summer. Don't know how much longer the folks will have it. They are really getting on in years.
Hope you have a great day!!
aria2000 01-12-06, 08:53 AM Hello Millie!
Good job!
Hope your mother recovers quickly from surgery!
Have a great day!
millie47 01-12-06, 08:56 PM Hi everyone,
Well my mom is still in the hosp. we are hoping she will get out tomorrow. I have a feeling she will be coming home with oxygen. She walks 3 feet and can hardly get her breath.
I got my paper work from the glaucoma specialist. Have lots to fill out. He said for me to plan on being there for 3 hours , and to bring a driver to drive me home. Boy oh boy I hope i don't need eye surgery, I am a chicken!!! I can't even stand the thought of having to have both knees replaced. I am always scared tha i want wake up. I just hope I dont start having panic attacks over all this. five years ago when i had to have surgery I started having them. I just hate that. ok so much about that before i have one now, lol.
I am still doing good, ( thank God). Today I have had 1,320 calories did the bike for 3 1/2 miles.
LuLu, Thanks for your support. It's always nice seeing you.
Kerri, Thanks for posting.I am tring to cope, at times it can be hard. There are times when I wonder why I let myself get so over weight. Then we end up with medical promblems. Well I guess we learn the hard ways at times.
Monica, Thanks for posting. The eye DR. did say I also have a cataract in each eye. I go see the Glaucoma specialist on the 26th of JAN. Dr. said the eye drops are not working anymore and I have lost more of my outter vision.
Maryse,Thanks for posting. I think at times the exercsing is the hard part, But I know I need to do it for many reasons:( ,lol.
Susan, Thanks for posting. I have been to Carson City. You are right the fall is pretty. I was born in South Carolina. There are times I really miss the south, like when the snow will not go away, lol.
Aria, Thanks for posting. I have a feeling my mom will end up coming home with oxgen. Her breathing still is not good. Every time I turn around she is having surgery and I think it is taking a toll on her.
Thanks everyone for supporting me, I really do need yall. Hope all have a great day, week.
Hi Millie, am hoping everything works out. One day at a time. Good job with calories and exercise.
:D Hi Millie,
Just wanted to drop by and tell you thanks for dropping by my journal and all your kind words. Hope you are feel well after surgery. Also Hope your mom is doing well. Your in my thoughts and prayers. You have gotten rid of alot of weight and that is sooooo wonderful. Keep up the hard work.
way to go on calories and exercise !
thanks for being so supportive with me millie, i was reading your story and i was shocked by how hard it must be and how amazingly strong you are. I know everyones story is slifghtly different, but my mum has similar problems and i know how difficultit is to find the want to go and loose weight.
Your success so far is inspirational, you should be proud of yourself. :-)
Hi Millie,
Hope all goes well with your specialist appointment. You are a strong woman and life has many challenges, just take it one day at a time.
Maryse
Hi Millie: Had you on my mind when I went to bed last night so here I am this morning..I do not like anyone playing with my eyes...I can put up with surgery cause I figure I trust God and I trust the docs..as long as I think I have a good one..and I just go along quietly with whatever has to be done..I usually go to the hospital alone..like it that way..I take alone my little book of positive thoughts etc. and just let whatever has to be done be done..do I make sense...
The reason for the driver is because they put drops in your eyes that kind of dilate your whatever..and you see blurry eyed...Nothing there again..It kinds of burns for a minute or two..but quite tolerable..
I cannot be there to help you with this I wish I could..but I can tell you the eye surgery or cataracts is quite easy...Many people I know have had it...and they are just fine..and felt nothing.and say there is nothing to it...They do not even put you to sleep I do not think..so no fear there..They freeze you and give you a relaxant I think....you go home the same day...but there are drops to be put in...I hope you have someone to help you with that..
Millie..Is there some one who can help you with anxiety attacks...I had them after my marriage broke down..and being stubborn old me..I refused medication..I did have a nervous breakdown but I did it my way....Maybe tell the doc your fears..be open and hopefully someone will listen to you..and understand this..
I know you will do your best with the food..as it does not solve anything Millie..You hand out with us here and we will help you in any way possible..but the important thing is to stay here with your friends who care about ya...
Hope you ring us good news about your mom..and that everything will go just fine...Have forgotten does your Mom live with you..?
Take care
 Lulu
aria2000 01-13-06, 09:43 AM Hello Millie!
Wishing you the best of luck with your eye doctor appointment!
Hope your mom recovers soon!
Take good care of yourself and I am sending you "good vibes"! :lily:
millie47 01-13-06, 07:55 PM Hi everyone,
have done pretty good again today. I have had so far 1,300, but will have a fruit later. Lost 2 pounds this week :D Yes!!! Went and done 1 mile walk tape and did 1 mile upper body with 1lb. weights.
Mom is still in hosp. hope she gets out tommorow. Her breathing seems a little better today. My mom and dad lives down street and around the corner. So they are close which helps. I can get over there and help them when they need me.
Susan, Thanks for the encouragement, It's always nice to have.
Sunyms,Thanks for posting, always happy to see you. Dr. told mom maybe tomorrow she could leave. So it's wait ans see.
Beth, It was really nice to see your post.Hope your back is doing better. I have back promblems too so I know where you are coming from.
Grace,Thanks for posting.I am glad I am insperational for someone. I am still upset with myself,to have lost 149 pounds last year ( it took almost 2 years)
then to let myself gain back 80 pounds. I guess that is life, so I am not going to look back and just move forward I can't cry over spilled milk, lol.
Maryse, Thanks for such kind words. You are right one day at a time. The only way to go.
Aria, Thanks for posting. I will keep everyone up dated on my eye appt. It is a little over a week and 1/2 away :( , lol.
Lulu, Thanks for thinking of me.WOW you are a brave ladyto go to hospt. alone.Yes you do make sense to me. I understand what you are saying.
I get my eyes dilated every 6 months because of the glaucoma, so that dose not worrie me.I don't they will do canatract surgery yet. Dr. says they are not far enough along yet. What worries me is if they have to do a buy pass surgery to open up my drainage in the back of my eyes, to stop the pressure from building up. The eye drops for the GLAUCOMA is not working any more.
but like you said I too will be praying.
My famliy Dr. knows that I have panic attacks. He has learn and me to let the Dr. that dose surgery know. They have to dope me up BIG time just to get me there:o Once I left the O.R ,lol.
I am sure happy and pleased to have so many woderful people hanging in there with me, I am blessed. It helps to keep me going.
Hope everyone has a great and safe weekend.
HI Millie,
That's great on the 2 lbs. And your calories are good too for the day.
Take care
Maryse
JoThrive 01-13-06, 10:22 PM Hi, Millie:
Congratulations on the 2 lbs. gone forever.
Regarding eye surgery, I have had cataract surgery on both eyes. My husband has had cataract surgery on one eye, plus he has glaucoma and has had the surgery to open up the drainage in the back of the eye. Neither of us have had any problem with any of it. I know that won't help with your panic attacks, but I did want you to know that they really do do these things very easily these days.
Be strong, Millie, as I know you will be.
Hi Millie, great that you lost 2 lb. Keep up the great work and sensible eating. Hope you have a great weekend.
millie47 01-14-06, 11:33 PM Hi Everyone,
So far have had a busy day. Last night 3 of my grandchildren came and spent the night with me. This morning had to get them all up early, Had to take my 20 year old son to get his car fixed. Then went to hospt. to see my mom. She is still there, she seems too be doing better, so hope she gets out soon.
Had another good day today food wise. Before I came and started reading the journals tonight wanted to go get food not on my list. So I said just get on computer and go read on D.T. That took away the urge to eat wrong.
1/14/06
1,385 calories
rode exercise bike 3 miles
Knees are doing ok, but i am feeling little more pain in them. So I am hoping it want get any worse.
maryse, Thanks for posting. It is always nice seeing you.
Hi JoJo,Thanks for posting. What did they do to open up the drainage in the back of his eyes? Don't worry you want scare me any worse, lol.
Sure an glad it worked out good for him.
Hi Susan,Thanks for posting. So far the weekend has been busy. When i read your journal you sound more busy, lol.
Love having everyone posting, it makes me feel wonderful!
JoThrive 01-15-06, 08:56 PM Hi, Millie:
You asked: <<Thanks for posting. What did they do to open up the drainage in the back of his eyes? Don't worry you want scare me any worse, lol.>>
What Bob had done for his glaucoma was done as an office procedure, and the doctor used a lazer to close up the opening in the back of his eye. We had to come back to the office later in the afternoon, and then several times for follow-up testing. I don't know if this is what your doctor is planning to do, but it worked fine for Bob and he recovered quickly.
Hi Millie,
Great of you to come on here instead of reaching for the food. I have done that a few times myself..I should have got on my parents pc and got on diettalk tonight instead of having pie LOL
Take care
Maryse
badelle2003 01-15-06, 10:36 PM Hi Millie, thought I'd check out your journal since you gave me some encouragement. :) I read at the beginning of your journal that you go to the YMCA. I go too. Have you ever checked out the water walking classes? It's supposed to burn a lot more calories than walking alone. I haven't gotten to go yet, but plan too when it gets a little warmer. They have the bubble up over the pool right now, but it's the dash from the bubble to the locker rooms that's giving me my excuse...lol. Good luck with your eye dr. appt....and great job avoiding those temptation foods. This does seem to be a really good forum to keep us in line. :)
Take care,
Michelle
millie47 01-15-06, 11:16 PM well had another good day. I have not worked out on my bike yet but plan on doing that when I get off.
Mom Is still in Hosp. I think she will be home tomorrow, she is doing much better. I have been kind of lazy today.
JoJo. Thanks for posting. I must say you have made me feel better.I hope if I need something it can be just the lazer. That dose not sound to bad, and I can handle going back, lol.I am happy to hear it worked for Bob.
Maryse, Thanks for posting. Hey don't worrie about the pie. We all do that at times. I think once in a while we need to have something we enjoy.
Michelle, Thanks for posting. I did threapy there back in Oct. So I am going to check out the classes.Happy to see you are getting around on the forum. I think it really dose help.
Hi Millie: Glad you are hanging tough...I am confident your eye treatments will go just fine..Today most stuff is fairly pain free..and new technologies help so much and are much less invasive..
Have a wonderful day..and I will be back..Just keep plugging away...if I can be of any help let me know...PM me if you need as I have the Fitday PC program and it gives how many calories burned for everything..and tells one exactly how many calories they can eat in a day and the number of calorie they need to cut back in order to lose x number of lbs etc...all exercise counts...just varying numbers of calories burned..
Lulu
aria2000 01-16-06, 10:52 AM Hello Millie!
Congratulations on the 2 lbs lost!!!
I have been having computer problems so I am not on when I want to, but I am still thinking of you!
millie47 01-16-06, 11:51 PM Hi everyone,
Well my mom came home from the hospt. today. They are her on breathing treatments for times a day. they also sent her home with oxygen. All the years of smoking as gotten to her.
Well I have had a another good day. Went a little higher in calories then I liked, still well into the good range.
1/16/06
1,400 calories
Lulu, thanks for posting. I agree with you I think my eyes will be ok. I just get to where at times I think why me. But then again I think I am very lucky , I guess it could be worst.I just hate the thought of Hospt. (CHICKEN THING,LOL) Thanks for being here.
Aria,Thanks for posting. Hope you get your computer running better. I know I sure hate when my is not running good.
Hope all has a great day!
Hi Millie, good job in staying in range with the calories. And I also read you lost 2 lbs!!! Congratulations!!! Hope this week continues to bring success your way.
Hi Milie, glad to hear your mom got home finally. Must be easier on all of you.
Your calories sound good too.
Hope you have a great day today, mine will be long, I have to go get my hair dyed after work, so won't get home till after 6. Made a beef barley soup in the crockpot, so that will be ready for the kids when they get home after school.
Well, take care
Maryse
aria2000 01-17-06, 09:27 AM Hello Millie!
Glad to hear your mom is settled at home.
I am off to the calories thread. :)
Have a good day!
Hi Millie. First, congrats on the add'nal 2 pound loss you had! And I'm glad to hear your mom is home from the hospital. My mom has had a couple of eye surgeries and each was easier than the previous because the technology is so much better. Her last one, about 1 yr ago, was quick and pain free. I'm a "sensitive eyes" person, too. Can't stand to have someone talk to me and have a pencil pointed or anything like that. Can't look at other peoples eyes, like if they have something in it, as mine water like crazy . Even so, these surgeries are so advanced, I'm sure it will be fine. You're doing great.
millie47 01-17-06, 07:48 PM Hi Everyone,
Have had another good day food wise.I have not got down stairs yet to ride my bike But I will. I will do 3 miles.
Mom is doing good.
KIDS HAD A DAY OFF FROM SCHOOL TODAY. Due to freezing rain, They where happy campers.

1,365 calories
Susan, Thanks for stopping by and the kind words. I never did read when the wedding was that you are going too. Must have missed it.
Maryse,Thanks for posting.Your beef barley sounds good. Those crockpots sure are nice when we have to work.
Aria, Thanks for posting.yes thank you mom is settled in. She is still wanting
that cigarette. But not with the oxygen. ( she just needs to give them up)
Kerri, Thanks for posting. Happy to hear your mom's eye surgery got easier. I am hoping mine will be easy also. But then again I don't even know if I am going to need to have surgery, lol. ( Hear I am worring already).
Thanks everyone the kind words and encouragement! It's nice to have such great friends!
Hi Millie,
I think I will stick to all the snow we got today, instead of the freezing rain.
Kids here still have to go to school even with the snow, even if they close the highways, which they do often, we only live 5 minute walk from the school.
Great on those calories!
Maryse
aria2000 01-17-06, 08:50 PM Millie, I can't believe your mom still wants a cigarette! But then it is sooo difficult to quit once you are used to it! Make sure you keep her away, since it is extremely dangerous with the oxygen! Take care. :)
Hi! Congrats on watching your calories and hitting that bike 3 miles is great! Keep it up. Glad your mom is better. Have a great week.
millie47 01-18-06, 09:25 PM Hi Everyone,
Well did not do good with the calories or working out today. So I am not a happy camper.X-( But I will go down when I am done and try to work out on bike. Just seem to be lazy today, way to lazy.
1/18/06
1,850 calories:tongue: X-(
Ok I am not looking back. I guess it could be worst.
Maryse,Thanks for posting. I always love to see you. We don't get freezing rain to often. So it is rare for our schools to close. But we do GET LOTS OF SNOW and we don't close. ( Kids like the freezing rain, lol)
Aria, Thanks for posting. If you knew my mom you would not be shocked, lol.
She went out in the breezeway to have a few puffs. What am I going to do with her, she is a trip sometimes. One track mind, lol.
Sunyms, Thanks for posting.Always nice to see you. A year ago I could do 18 miles and still talk normal. Just shows how NOT EXERCISING dose to us.
Hope everyone has a great day. I will try and do better tomorrow. I did not eat junk food just to much healthy stuff. My limit on calories are 1,200 - 1,600. So some over.
JoThrive 01-18-06, 09:43 PM Hi, Millie:
I understand how your mom is feeling when she still wants to smoke. I was a smoker myself, I picked up the habit in college since everyone smoked in those days. I quit in 1969, and I am glad I did, but I think it was easier to quit then than it is now as the ciggies are stronger now. It is a very addictive habit. But your mom should not smoke near the oxygen. It is very dangerous.
Don't worry about being a tad over on your calorie count today. We all have days like that. Just do better tomorrow. OK?
Keep smiling -
monicapink 01-18-06, 10:36 PM Millie,
IMHO YOU SAID THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IT WASN'T JUNK FOOD .. IT WAS TOO MUCH OF HEALTHY FOOD
Now that I am following WW ... I notice that the healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables ARE ENCOURAGED .... and if you ate HEALTHY FOODS perhaps you INCREASED YOUR FIBER INTAKE and LIMITED YOUR FAT INTAKE. So imho YOU DID DARN GOOD.
Each day we learn ... THIS JOURNEY IS NOT JUST FOR US TO LOSE WEIGHT BUT TO LEARN TO LIVE A HEALTHIER LIFE. Have and make it a great evening. I am as always, Monica
Hi Millie,
Yes, it could have been worse. It could have been junk food. :) Hope you got on that bike.
Keep it up, your doing great.
Maryse
aria2000 01-19-06, 09:16 AM :water: :Orange: :tom1: :apple: :wmellon: :dc :wn Hello Millie, wishing you another good healthy food day today!
stopping in to say "hi"
Hi Millie, hope you were able to get on that bike. Don't kick yourself too much. I am finally feeling somewhat human again. I have had the flu and boy this was a doosy. Only good thing was a loss of appetite!
Hang in there!
Hi Millie just checking things out A bit over but if it was a good food choice well then it isn't all bad. Going to the bike will help.
Thanks for stopping by my house.
millie47 01-19-06, 09:55 PM Hi Everyone,
Well still went a little high on calories than I wanted to, but it was all good food again. I think tomorrow I will do better:o . I did get on my bike today and did 3 miles. ( Last year I could do 18 miles :D ) Well hope to get back up there. I have lots to do tomorrow so I think that will help. I will need to find something good in the afternoons to keep my mind busy ( no food)
I am used to working, but it sure is nice being home. getting more house work done YES.
1/19/06
1,735 calories
3 miles on bike
JOJO, THANKS FOR POSTING.
I don't think my mom will give it up without a fight, lol. She went out in the breezeway to have one yesterday. But she knows I am always there for her and dad. Last year my dad had a triple bypass , I stayed with them for 2 weeks when he got home. I worked as a nurse aide for 23 years, then had to give it up because of my R.A.. I miss that work a lot, but just can't left people anymore.
Monica, Thanks for posting. That is so true. It was not junk food. So I guess it could have been worst, Thanks!
Maryse, Thanks for posting. No I did not get on my bike :o WELL. I guess yesterday I was just lazy. But I did today, lol.
Aria, Thanks for posting. Loved all of your fruit, lol.
Beth, Thanks for stopping.Hope your back is better,
susan, Thanks for posting. calories wise did not do that good, but was healthy. but rode bike 3 miles and vacum and mopped my upstairs, so hoped I burned a little calories, lol. Hope you are feeling better. The flu can be rough.
Boblin, Thanks for posting. I sure need to just stay focused. I think I need to find something to do in afternoons. I get bored and I am used to working.. But it sure is nice to be home after all these years of working.
Hope everyone reading this has a GREAT day!
Millie, sounds like an active day for you. Well done!! And now you have a cleaner house and a healthier body. Wow! two birds with one stone!! Good job staying active.
millie47 01-20-06, 08:59 PM Hi Everyone,
Had a real good day today. Was busy running around. girl friend and I stop for lunch. I stay right with my healthy eating. I order a tuna sandwich with the mayo on the side and muster so i could mix it my self, w/ L/tom. on wheat. Boy it was real good. So I had a nice day got to go out to eat and stayed the course, lol.
Also got a lot of walking in.
My knees are starting to hurt more (again):( . I don't know if it is from me trying to exercise more or what. It keep me awake the last two nights. I hate to have to take pain pills. But I may have to tonight just to help me get some sleep. I am still hoping I can put off having the two knees replacement until I loss 40- 50 pounds. I guess if it gets as bad as it was before I am going to have to give in and have it:c( , Well what can we do.
Susan, Thanks for posting always happy to see you. Hope you are starting to feel a little better.
I Hope I am not going to be sorry for being to active (knees):(
Well hope all has a great weekend!

have you checked into the swimming/water aerobics, yet? I am hoping to be back at it by Monday. Started to run a temp again this evening. I just cannot believe how this virus is hanging on. Am sure glad I did not push it and go into work today. Take care and have a good weekend.
millie47 01-22-06, 09:56 AM Hi Everyone,
Well Did not do so good again yesterday. Had around 1,800 calories. I really need to stay focused better.
I think with my knees starting to hurt more I am getting to where I don't want to move much. Which in turns makes me bored so I eat, ( not a good thing. Well Today is a new day, so I will work harder.
Hi Susan, Thanks for posting. Always nice to see you.No Have have not gotten down to the Y.M.C.A. yet. I do think I need to do that even if I only go 3 or 4 times a week. So I am going to get down there this week.
Hope that temp of yours is gone by now. They say the flu is rough. I sure hope I don't get it. I did have a flu shot so hoping that will work. take care of your self.
I WILL come back later today and post my calories.Hope everyone has a GREAT day.
Hi Millie, yes the temp is gone - FINALLY! what a rough week. I am pretty drained. Today I am going to get on the treadmill - even if it is only for 20 min. Am just going to do what I can. I have chicken soup ready for dinner, too. Am not doing a lot today as I know going back to work will be tough the first couple of days with this cough and having to talk. Oh well!
Hope you find good info at the Y!
You ae doing great Millie...Try to keep up your bike even if you do it in two sessions...to rest your knees...is yours an upright or a recumbent? Mine is recumbent...A bit different than an upright..really supports my back..got to say though since doing my bike my knees are less painful than they used to be (the arthritis)
You are doing good..A high day once in a while will not kill you but will in fact sometimes help your metabolism so i read in an article this morning an article in here posted by someone...
Hope you are having a good day..
Lulu
millie47 01-22-06, 09:00 PM Hi Everyone,
Susan,Thanks for posting. Happy to hear your temp is down. I think that will be half the battle, lol. You are right, take it slow at first.
I am going to try and get to the Y Monday or Tuesday.
LuLu, Thanks for stopping by. I do have a recumbent bike my ORTH. DR. said for me to get that kind. It takes the pressure off of the knees, also I will need to use it after the knee surgery. He(DR.) says they are the best kind to have (recumbent) and with arthritis you need that kind even more. He told me it is even essayer on the joints than walking. So guess we have the right kind LuLu. I really like mine a lot. I think I am going to have to try and see if I work out in the pool will be better. It seems like doing anything on land is making my knees hurt worse. I guess when you have bone rubbing on bone it's going to hurt.
I was coming down the steps today and my right knee locked up just as I was coming down on that leg. MAN I thought I was going to fall again. Thats why I go slow, lol.About 6 months ago I fell when it did that(locked up) and broke 3 toes on both feet. Now I go very slow because I know my dum knees do that all the time.
Ok I had a better day today. I have been having a rough time with staying on the right path. Why I do this I don't really know.
So today I had (so far) 1,500 calories,so that is still good.
Hope everyone has a great week. Thanks everyone for being here for me.
It's hard overcoming pain to force yourself to work through it. What I mean by that is that it is easy to just sit to avoid the pain but moving more is actually what Dr.'s recommend for arthritis (I don't know about the knees, but you have to lose weight to have the surgeries, so basically it applies there, too). Once you've moving around more, it will help loosen your joints and bring off the weight so the pain will lessen. There are so many things to hold us back from reaching our goals. I hope you make it to the YMCA and find you like the water aerobics. I think you'll find some wonderful improvement going that route since you do have so much pain to cope with. Maybe when you want to munch, you can get on the computer and read and post here at DT for support?
Hi Millie, Wow, I can not believe your knee could do that. I can understand your concern in moving slow and taking care of those knees.
Just wanted to drop in again to wish you a good week.

aria2000 01-23-06, 09:05 AM Hi Millie, wishing you a good day! :)
millie47 01-23-06, 11:44 PM Hi Everyone,
Well yesterday and today I have done much better food wise. So I am hoping I am getting it back under control ( Thank God)
Why we can do so good for days or weeks then have a hard time other times I just don't know.
1/23/06
1,500 calories
Kerri, Thanks for posting. Yes it is hard to exercise when you have bone rubbing on bone. You are right I do need to keep moving so the rest of my body dose not stiffen up. Now if I could just lay my knee's aside that would help, lol.
Orth. DR. said he will do the surgery anytime, He said for me to let him know when I am ready. I would just like to get more weight off first. The more the better for my knee's.
Susan,Thanks for posting. Oh yes the knee's do lock up. There has been a few times when I did not think I would get it to move right. Dr. says there is so much floating around in there and it is getting caught on it. They also make very loud popping and crackling nosie my friends and family can hear it across the room just from me moving my knee and I am sitting.
Glad to hear you are feeling better.
Aria, Thanks for posting, always happy to hear from you.
Hi Millie! I sympathize with you on the knees. I've just recently (3 months ago) had my right knee replacement and will eventually have to have my left one done. It can be done at any weight, but the less weight you have the easier it'll be for you. Does anyone in your area do the "quad sparing" total knee? It's really good if your dr. does them or can refer you to someone that does. Your incision is lots smaller and they don't cut any of the quad muscles or tendons, so your recovery time is less. That's what I had and I'll have that on the next knee, too.
You're doing great exercising even with the pain..... the crackling noise... isn't that just so attractive? LOLOL I have that with my left knee now.
Glad that you're getting back on track... it's so hard sometimes getting back on after a slip. But you seem determined, so I'm sure you'll get there!
Take care and have a great week!
millie47 01-25-06, 09:59 PM Hi everyone,
D.J. Thanks for posting. Now I have someone to ask lots from.I don't know if my Orth.Dr. does the Quad Sparing or not. I do have the best Orth. Dr. in our town and everyone tires to get into him.
How long was your recovery? Did you use a walker or cruthes? How long did you have to stay in hospt.?
Do you think he would do both of my knees at the same time, or do they not do that.I have one person tell me that they will do both if you are healthy and they think you can handle the pain. Guess I should have asked him when I has seen him last. But he said he did not need to see me again until I was ready to do the surgery. He did say the more I lose and get the mussel around the knees strong the better off the surgery would be for me.
I guess I was in shock when he told me I needed both replaced, lol. I had know for 3 years that the left was bad and would need it some day. So when the right started I thought it was from me putting more weight on that knee, lol. Ok I will stop asking so much.
Ok Yesterday was a bad day:c( I had 2,230 calories, the best guess I have.
Today I have done much better. 1,320 calories.
I really need to stay focused and do this or I know I will be sorry, when I can no longer walk or move myself around.
I sure hope I get some sleep tonight. Tomorrow is the day I go to the Glaucoma specialist. So wish me luck or say a prayer for me.
Hope everyone that reads this has a great week or day!
Hi Millie..... asking questions is a good thing for sure. The more information you have the better prepared you'll be. If you're going to ask your dr. about the quad sparing, it's called "minimally invasive quad sparing total knee replacement." And if he's really good and you trust him, I woudn't worry about having to have it done the traditional way. People recover just fine from the traditional way... it just takes longer.
I used a walker and a cane for awhile.... the walker for flat surfaces and the cane for stairs at first. Then just the cane for getting around, especially when I went out to stores, which I did pretty early on. I ran out of energy quickly, but that's to be expected for quite awhile. This is a huge surgery and you have to be really patient with your recovery. The physical therapy starts while you are still in the hospital and continues for however long your dr. prescribes it. I did 18 PT sessions after I got out of the hospital... 3 a week for 6 weeks. They are very hard because you'll be in a lot of pain, but it's ESSENTIAL that you do whatever they tell you to do because as bad as it hurts, it helps you to heal and get more mobile more quickly. I cried every time in PT while I was in the hospital.
I was in the hospital from Tuesday through Saturday the first time.... I ended up back in the hospital the following Wednesday for 3 days because I had a problem. But that doesn't usually happen, so you more than likely won't have to worry about that. I hemoraged into the new knee and the swelling was incredibly bad which made the pain unbearable. But once that problem was resolved, it was just normal pain.
I have known people that have both knees done at once because once you have one done, getting yourself to the point where you'll have the 2nd one done is hard because of the pain. But honestly, I don't know how people do both. Even though my other knee is bad, I relied on that leg to help me get up and in and out of the bath tub and in and out of the car and just everything really..... I just don't know how people do it when they don't have a strong leg to rely on, especially in the beginning. But it has been done so I know it can be. I guess the choice would be up to you and your dr. The people that I know that have had both done have also been overweight, so weight doens't have anything to do with it other than the less you weigh the easier it is to recover. At least that's what I've been told..... I weighed about 240 or maybe a little less when I had mine done. I definitely want to weigh less when I have the other one done.
Hope this answers some of your questions and don't ever hesitate to ask if you think of something you want to ask. I don't mind at all. Sandielynne has had a knee replacement last year as well.... she might be able to help you, too.
Good going on your calories today! That sounds like a good healthy eating day and good luck at your dr. tomorrow. I'll send up some prayers for you! Take care and sleep well!
:D Hey Millie, So sorry to hear your having a hard time but hang in there girl your gonna make it. By the way I read an interesting article in my tops mag about a women who didn't want to have surgery for her knees and hips and lost weight and didn't have to have surgery. I pray you don't have to have surgery and a miracle will happen for you as well. She said the pain was so bad before she cried just walking a few steps I felt so bad for her. Hope you get a good report from you doctor and just remember we're all pulling for you. Your in my prayers. I understand I too have arthritis. It really stinks most days so painful and in the mornings I can hardly move.
Hi Millie, hope the trip went well. It is the 26th, so I am assuming you went to the specialist today. Hope it is good news or news you can deal with. Great job on getting back on track with the calories. We all have those +++ days!! The important thing is to pull it back in. Hope you have a great remainder of the week.
millie47 01-27-06, 09:53 PM D.j Thanks for posting.
WOW sorry to hear about you having a bleed into your knee and having to return to the Hosp.
See I was wondering the same thing about having both knees done. Looks like you need one to help you recover from the other one being replaced. I am sure glad that they let you use a walker. I can not balance myself on cruthes at all. I fall a lot using them. Thanks for letting me ask so many questions. I am sure I will have more questions later.
How is your knee doing now? Do you still have a lot of stiffens in it?
Susan, thanks for posting. That is so true I think we all have bad days at times. Thanks for reminding me.Also at times it can be hard to pull our selfs back on track. So far so good for m e this week. This sure has not been the best week for me food wise.
Ok. Well I have had a very good day food wise. Still am not exercising like I need to. But I will get or call the Y this week to find out about the water classes. I know I really need to do something or it is just WAT TO HRAD TO LOSE weight.
Today I have have had 1,210 calories and that will be a fruit snack with it for later.
So I was at the Glaucoma specialist yesterday, all day! He dose not think That the lose of my peripheral sight has anything to do with my glaucoma.
He said I lose to much to fast for it to be the glaucoma. He said that I have crystals forming around my retina. and he thinks that is what is causing it.(the lost) He wants to send me to ANN Arbor to the Kelloge eye hosp. there to see a different kind of specialist (for eyes). That is almost a 5 hour drive for me. So I am still to the point of not having a answer. They where to call today to tell me when my eye appt. is. ANd they did not call today. So Monday I will call them by the afternoon if I don't hear from them.
Thanks everyone for keeping me your prayers and thoughts.
Hope everyone has a great weekend.
Hey, Millie..... that's too bad that you didn't find out any news from the eye dr. but it's great that he's sending you somewhere that you will get some news. This not knowing stuff or being in limbo as I call it, is really difficult at times! I'll keep sending up prayers for you!
Good going on a good food day! That's always cause for a YIPPEE!! Water classes would be great for you with your knees the way they are. Hope you can find a way to do that!
My knee is doing really well.... I have a little discomfort here and there, but mostly it's not painful anymore. And as far as stiffening goes, only when I've been sitting for a long time and then get up to go down stairs. And it's just a little bit. I even got on my knees today to get into the cupboard under the sink. I was cleaning it out and just couldn't reach to the back without getting on my knees and I just got the okay to do that on the 18th of this month. It just seems to be getting back to normal now... or should I say better than normal, because I don't have that kind of pain that you know about... that bone on bone clicking all over the place kind of pain. lol Such an attractive sound, isn't it? LOLOL
Take care and have a good weekend, Millie! You're doing great!
millie47 01-28-06, 01:39 AM Hi Dj, thanks for posting. You are so right I hate being in limbo. It would had been nice to know what lies ahead.
Wow I can't belive you got down on your knee's. that is so great! Just the thought of someone bumping or hitting my knee's scare's me to death,LOL I am a chicken, lol With the swelling it's sore to the touch.
Your so right that popping and cracking sounds so attractive. I have gotten some weird looks at times.
Also at times my knee's will lose the strength to hold me up for a few seconds.
I am really happy that your knee is doing so much better (the new one)
So are you glad you had it done? I bet you hate the thought of having to go through this again.
Dj I hope you have a great weekend. Thanks so much for your story and for keeping me in your prayers. right now I feel I need all I can get.
Ok, It is now after Midninght still sitting here on computer reading journal's. I did take a break and made a REAL BIG bowel of fruit salad. I had a cup of it and boy was it good. It should last me for a while, good snack for when I want something fast, lol.
Have a good day all!
millie47 01-28-06, 01:28 PM Hi Everyone,
Well today has not started out good. I weighted my self today and have gained 3 pounds. I guess it is from the two days I messed up this past week.
Why do I do this when I know that is where it is going to lead me.
So I will do as I tell others just move forward and don't look back.
I am so bummed.
So far today I have started out doing good. I have had a cup of rasin bran cearl with f.f. milk. So I will come back later and post my calories for the day.
Hope all is having a good weekend so far.
sandielynne 01-28-06, 05:58 PM Hi Millie,
A friend of mine had both of her knees done at the same time, and about 6 months after her surgery, she was traipsing all over Hawaaii on vacation. She said she would never have been able to do that before she had the surgery.
I hear that each patient is different, but total recovery requires about a year. Of course you are getting about on your own much sooner than that, driving about 6 weeks after surgery even. It's just that it does take a long time for this type of surgery to completely heal. It is such a traumatic experience for you leg.
I often think I should have had both of my knees done at the same time because as DJ said, I remember the pain, and I now doubt very much I will be willing to subject myself to that again. But I can tell you right now that DJ is way ahead of me already, and my surgery was done in November of 2003.
I think some of my problems are as the Surgeon told me, I had waited too long to have the surgery. The damage was far worse than they were expecting. It has caused my recovery to be slower and not a good overall as DJ is experiencing. There is no way I could ever get down on my knees using the new knee. But thankful that the other knee will bend that far because there are times when I need to get down on that knee to get things done right (like some weeding in my garden).
When I had my surgery I was in hospital for 3 days, and then I went to Allied Services hospital for a week, as per my Surgeon's recommendation. It is a physical therapy hospital, and I had intense therapy there for that next week. After I came home I continued to attend out-patient PT for 6 weeks, as DJ did. I have to tell you, the first time I was able to ascend and decend the stairs as a normal person does, one foot in front of the other, I just cried like a baby. It had been a good 5 years that I had not been able to do that.
I still have a very sensitive area on the left side of my knee that is partially numb, and very sensitive to being bumped. The Surgeon told me that sometimes happens, but not always. I think it is probably due to the fact that I had already suffered permanent nerve damage in that leg before the operation.
I certainly wish you all the very best with your surgery. It takes a lot of determination on your part to keep up with the PT and keep moving after you are home. But I suffered so much pain before the surgery, and that is all gone now. I do not regret having the surgery done at all. And I am hoping that if I can get rid of the excess weight now then I may never need surgery on the right knee. Whether you have the surgery or not, the knees definitely do benefit by the loss of weight. And so does your back.
Keep up the good work and hang in there. It is very hard at times. And very frustrating too. But it can be done if we hang in there and just plod along until we make it work!
Have a great weekend!
millie47 01-28-06, 10:08 PM Well have done real good food wise. I also got some cleaning done today and started on the laundry (up and down steps) So i am hoping I burned a little calories today.
I was so bummed when I see my 3 pound gain. So I am going to try and not look back and just move forward. I really think I need to find more to keep my mind busy. I have always worked full time and being home so much can get boring. Monday or tuesday I plan to go to y and check out there water classes.
1/28/06
1,310 calories that includes and fruit salad later for snack.
Sandie, thanks so much for posting and telling me a little about your knee surgery. Sorry to hear you had a harder time. I hope it keeps getting better for you as time goes on.
See I have a friend that keeps telling me the same thing, that I should not wait so long or I may have a harder time.
That is also one of my reasons that I would like to get both of my done at the same time. The Dr. (or me) will be lucky to get me in there once. I panick at the thought of being put to sleep. just hate the thought of not having my own control, lol.
That was very nice of you to visit my journal and tell me a little about it. I know we all will go through different things with our surgery. But it nice to know the in and outs.
I know I really need to lose more weight so this will go better for me and will also help me move myself around better. I better start lifting weights, lol I will need that.
Hope everyone has a great weekend.
I hate those small gains. But you saw it and now can stop it. Those stairs definitely can count for some calorie burn. I hate stairs! That is where I really feel my weight.
Well, I am struggling with cookies this weekend. May have to put them in the freezer downstairs. They are usually safe down there - since I hate stairs. The boys are not eating them like I thought they would. Has been a while since I have made any. Lately I had been good about leaving them alone. Must have a chocolate craze. But need to get them out of sight.
Hope you have a great week, Millie!
I bet in a week (or sooner) those 3 pounds are gone again and you can move forward. It's hard to eat right every day, even when there isn't much stress going on in your life. But you know you have a purpose beyond what many people have that relates to your health (quite a few of DTer's do) and that will help keep you going. Let us know what the new eye Dr. tells you.
millie47 01-29-06, 10:44 PM Hi everyone,
Well today has gone good also. I cleaned the upstairs and worked on more laundry. So I hope I have burned a few calories today.
My 20 year old son Antonio went to gym today and brought me back the paper with the water classes on it from the Y. So I will call tomorrow and see if I can still get into the classes, they have started already. But I know alot of there classes they will let you come in anytime just not sure which one's.
Today my calories are 1,400
Susan, Thanks for posting. I sure hope your right about the stairs burning calories, I nee some burned, lol.
Oh try and stay away from the cookies, Hope you hide them. You are like me out of sight out of mind better.Good lucky with that.
Kerri, Thanks for posting. I sure hope your right it will be gone in a week or less. I will take the less. This moring I had lost 1 3/4 already so I an hoping some of it is water. Hey I will take it anyway, lol.
I am a stress eater so you are most likely right it's from stress. Now I just need to learn to control that. Ok I need to stay with my healthy eating!
Hope everyone is has a great week!
Millie, luckily the cookies are about gone. Good riddance. I made a lemon dessert tonight. I HATE lemon, so I am safe with that one. My "boys" do love their desserts. I am trying to make more lower carb dishes. The boys were wolfing down bread tonight for an evening snack. Guess I did not have enough carbs for them at dinner! LOL
Enjoy your week!
millie47 01-31-06, 12:53 AM Well I had another good day. Did a lot of running around, also Stop by the Y and signed up for the water class. It will be on Mon., Wed., Fri. From 11:30 A- 12:30. I am hoping 3 days a week will help. I sure hope it will help me burn some calories.
I had a rough night last night, my knee's JUST POUNDED. I just keep thinking I hope I can hold off on the surgery until I can get more weight off and see if I can build up my mussels around my knee's first.
1/30/06
1,200 calories
Susan, thanks so much for posting. Happy to hear you got rid of those cookies. Good ideal you making a dessert you don't like. I on the other hand love lemon pie, lol.
Keep up the great work!
Hope all has a great day!
aria2000 01-31-06, 01:22 PM Good job, Millie!
Have a great day!
:1stprize:
Congrats Millie on signing up for the water class that will certainly help you reach your goal and take the pressure off your knee. I pray you don't have to have the surgery and maybe the water class will help with the knee pain as well. I do yoga that helps my arthritis. Keep it up and good luck at the class. Hope you have a pain free week!
Try ice on the knees, Millie....that's what the hospital and the PT people push on you after all your exercising etc. I liked the heat better, but the ice is what is supposed to help after lots of activity.
That's great news about the water classes! That should help you without hurting you...... good job!
millie47 02-01-06, 01:17 AM Had a good day today. Went down and cleaned the family and laundry room.
Did two more loads of clothes. then later cooked a nice dinner. I baked some chicken in oven. It was really good.
Tomorrow I have the first water class, then have to take my mom shopping. So maybe I will burn some tomorrow.
1/31/06
1,210 calories
Aria, thanks, Always happy to see you.
Sunyms, Thanks for posting. I too hope the water classes will work good for me. Is yoga hard on the joints? I have never tried it before. But If I have to get down on floor, I can forget it,lol. I would never be able to get up.
Dj, Thanks for posting. I do the ice packs. Have used it for years after my first knee scope. I just am not sure if it helps, never seems to take down the swollen. I have not tried the the heat. But I sure love the heat on my back, lol
I will keep up using the ice packs ( just in case, lol)
Hope everyone has a great day!
Hi Millie, Let me know how the water aerobics class goes. Hope you enjoy it. A friend of mine always used a bag of frozen peas on her knees. It forms to your knee and you can just refreeze them and use them over and over for a while.
Puppy is doing fine. He slept with a new baby lamb last night. Both share the heat lamp. Wish I had taken a picture!!
Enjoy the rest of the week. I am signing off. Just enough time to do some quick walking on the treadmill.
millie47 02-02-06, 12:21 AM Had another good day. I went to my water class and it went real good. It sure is a lot easer in the water than on land. I sure hate having to put on a bathingsuit.Yekissssssssssssssssss! Coming out of the water you feel like you weigh 10 tons, lol. It's funny how lite the water makes you feel.
Then My mom and freind mackey went shopping. So I hope to have burned up a few calories today.
2/1/06
1,200 calories may have a snack later.
Hi susan, Thanks for posting. the water class went good, just hate the suit thing. Thanks for letting me know about the peas, I have heard of others doing that. That cool water from the pool sure felt good on the knees and my back. Well i guess that is another good reason too go,lol. Maybe I better stop typing or may find more reason to go,lol.
Hope everyone has a Great day!
Millie, that's awesome that you liked the water class so much! I love to swim, but we don't have anywhere that we can go right now. And being as busy as I am for the next couple of months, I probably wouldn't get there anyway. lol I'm bad like that.... it's easier just to jump on the health walker sometimes in my PJ's.
Honestly, with my knees, the heat felt better than the ice, although I had to do the ice. I did the heat at night before bed... maybe you'd be good with that. I hope you find something that works to hold you over until you have your surgeries.
Take care and have a great Thursday!
JoThrive 02-02-06, 11:21 AM Hi, Millie:
I am so glad that you are enjoying the water aerobics. When I have done such classes I have really enjoyed them, too.
Have a great day -
millie47 02-02-06, 09:15 PM Well had a good day again. Got on the scales today and have lost 5 pounds!!
So thats 3 that i gained last, plus 2. So I am happier:D . The Dr. (Eye) to give me my appt. for Ann Arbor, she said it is Feb. 26th. So I hung up phone and went to mark it down and that is a Sunday. Now I think she gave me the wrong day, so I will need to call and check the date out.
I got my back room down stairs cleaned and everything put it its own place. Now lets see how long it stays that way, lol. It's my (pantry). Did two more loads of clothes.
My husband called from Iraq again today. I think he is lonely, he has called 3 times this week. Have to get some stuff together and send him another box of goodies.
DJ, Thanks for posting always nice to see you. YOU sound like me, I like to just exercise at home with my PJs on also, lol. You know I think I will get out my heating pad and try it on my knees to see how I like it.
Jojo, So nice to see you again. Thanks for checking on me. I always need that.
well hope everyone has a great day!

aria2000 02-03-06, 08:49 AM Hello Millie!
Congratulations on you 5 lbs lost!!!
What a great job!
Hope your husband feels better soon! A box of goodies from home should certainly help! :)
millie47 02-03-06, 09:03 PM Hi Everyone, Well Had another good day so far. Took my mom shopping again, boy I seem to do that a lot. We walked all over Miejer ( It's like a supper walmart) So i feel like I got some walking in. Went to water class again today, So I am hoping I am burning a little more calories.
My mom and I stoped at a craft castle and I got me a big goose for my front deck. It was $35.95. I thought that was a good price. I have been wanting one of them for yearsssssss. Also got it one outfit to wear ,lol. Well it's cute. Had to have my son carry it from car, to heavy for me with my knees. He said MOM why such a big goose. I said he's cute, my son just laughed.
1/3/06
1,310 calories ---- water class
Today has been better after the 5 pound lose, It give you the encouragement to keep going.
Susan, thanks for the encouragement. I need all I can get at time.I don't know if my house is the cleanest house. I now have time to do things we put off when we are working full time. I would get a lot more done if not for my bad knees.
Hope you have a good time at the wedding.
Aria, Thanks for posting, and the kind words. My husband called me again today. I told him you must miss me, and he just laughed and said why. So guess I better get that goodie box packed up and sent. He will get to come home in june for 2 weeks.
Hope everyone has a great weekend.
JoThrive 02-03-06, 09:08 PM Hi, Millie:
I'm just stopping in to see how you are doing, and I find that you have adopted a goose. Are you going to collect more costumes for your new possession? Have fun with it.
Have a great weekend.
PhD Girl 02-03-06, 09:17 PM Hi Millie,
I decided to check out your journal and to say hi after you've been kind enough to do that for me :)
Glad to see you're feeling positive, keeping active and congrats on your 5lbs loss! Great! :1stprize:
Keep up the good work!
Sally
millie47 02-04-06, 10:59 PM Dear journal and friends,
Well had a good day again.I like that, lol. I want lots of the good days.
Cleaned out my two end tables and found new places for the pictures and stuff in there, now they are not stuffed. Made a pot of home made chicken soup with lots of veggies, boy was it good, had a 1/2 cup of rice with it.

Jojo, Thanks for posting. I love my goose already, lol.
Yes I will be looking for more outfits for him, hes got to have some change of clothing. lol.
Sally, Thanks for stopping by. It's nice to see you.
Well hope everyone will have a nice super bowel sunday, watch that food, lol.
PhD Girl 02-05-06, 03:30 AM Hi Millie,
Will you be watching the Super Bowl? We don't really have that here although there might be a channel showing it because I think it's been on in previous years.
I looked at your profile and saw you're 49 and married 35 years - so you got married at 14? Ha, ha! No offence but that is very young!! :2cents: :D
It seems really young to have a grandchild at 49 to me! Mindue my parents were 38 when they had me and I'm the only one, so that is probably one reason why.
Thanks for stopping by in my journal again. It's not very riveting! But I guess it is a place to vent. The day's just starting here (725am) but I'm going out clothes shopping with a friend later and then going for coffee with another. I'll have to be good. I think trying on clothes and eyeing up the size 18 (UK, so 16 US) jeans will keep me on track though! :sigh: That's my next goal really to get back into size 18 because I'm a 20 (UK so that's 18 US) at the moment.
Anyway, have a good one! Enjoy the Super Bowl :super: :cheer: :football:
Take care of yourself,
Sally x
Hi Millie, I love those cute geese all dressed up in different outfits!!! I would love one, too. But on the farm things just get too dirty (flies). So I have not invested in one. The wedding was fine and I made good choices for eating. Danced with my boys and husband, so got some exercise in. It was really a lovely reception. We were very late in getting home since it was a long drive. So everyone is dragging today. I did clean bathrooms today. Not sure what else I will do. Toyed with hauling recycling in and quickly going to WalMart. But it is already late morning and walmart will soon be busy. So I guess I am just going to stay home. Glad you had a great day. Hope it is an even better week.
millie47 02-05-06, 11:00 PM Dear journal and friends,
Had another great day today. Cleaned the down stairs, gUESS i should have dusted to, Oh well.Made chicken in the oven tonight for supper. Then all my boys left to go watch supper bowel game with friends. So me and my little dogs (2) are here by our selfs (nice).
Had a rough night last night, My right knee was just ponding. So at 5 am got up and took a pain pill. I hate to take them but there are times I just give up and take one. They are not strong but I always have a fear of getting hooked on them. My Dr. says you dont take them enough to get hooked. I say thats why. He says you need to try and control the pain better. Dr. says he has some that beggs for them then he has me that want take them, lol Well.
Ok Today 2/5/06
1,200 calories
Sally, Thanks for posting. No I don't watch the supper bowl. My sons went to friends to watch it. So I am sitting here alone (it's nice)
Yes I got married at 14 years old. Which is way to young. I would never let one of mine get married that young. I got married young to get away from drunk parents and a VERY MEAN mother. I don't mind you asking. I had a very hard childhood, so I was much better off getting married. Which has turned out to be a good marriage now.
Hope you had fun clothes shopping, That is so fun when you get to smaller sizes.
Susan, Thanks for posting. Happy to hear you enjoyed the wedding.
Dancing sure is good exercise, bet you burned some calories.
So happy to hear you made good food choices! That is half the battle when going out.
Is your farm big? do you have any chickens or cows? I lived on a fram some when I was younger. I loved it there.
Hope all has a great week!
Hi Millie, I did get on the treadmill for about 40 min. tonight. I was pretty lazy today, otherwise. I did get my bathrooms cleaned, some laundry done, vacume run and sink cleaned out. Just basic cleaning, though. Not the best day in eating. need to get back at it tomorrow. No, our farm is not very big by today's standards. 240 acres total which is minute compared to most farms. Husband does any and all to keep things going. I think it is his animals that get him through. Really does not sell crops for cash - but rather for feed. It is hard manual labor. Don't know how he does it every day. But he is in great shape. Do worry sometimes as we get older, though!
Well, weekend went too fast. Back to schoo tomorrow. Am hoping for another fast week. Hope yours is a good one.
Hi Millie. I am so happy to hear the water aerobics are going well for you! I'm so glad you found something that works well and isn't painful. And congratulations on losing the 5 pounds! That's awesome! Sounds like things are going very well for you and you're keeping up on the house (one of my problems these days, it seems). Your goose sounds cute, too. I used to collect them years ago but hardly have anything left from that collection now. Just changed my likes, I guess. My house is in country decor for the most part - things change when you get married and have kids so it's not exactly how I would like it to be, but homey feeling. Keep up the good work you are doing and hope hubby gets to come home soon.
PhD Girl 02-06-06, 04:03 AM Hi Millie,
My mum suffered from a very abusive childhood. Her mother was a single parent (and this is in the 1940s!) and was also insane - like really! She was in and out of mental institutions later in life but growing up my mum had to deal with her. She used to terrorise my mum, beat her up and rip chunks of her hair out, she always told her how she'd ruined her life etc... My mum waited until she was 28 to marry my dad though and lived with her mother up until that point. Even after she was married she was awful! She died when I was 7 so I don't remember her all that well, but she was always okay with me. On one of her mental breakdown episodes they'd let her out of hospital and she'd come for dinner at my parent's house - this is before I was born. My mum said she sat rocking back and forth, staring at the same point on the wall in front of her for a bout 4 hours, then she said to my mum 'Is Barrie going to kill me before or after dinner?' (Barrie is my dad) and kept saying that it was going to be in the papers, everyone would no what a terrible thing she'd done, but no one would blame my mum they'd know she was good... Ah, happy days!!
Anyway, so hearing stories from my mum's childhood I can begin to understand why you were desperate to leave home when you were a teenager. My mum did actually go to Paris to work for a while when she was about 26 but even though she worked mainly as a chambermaid in a hotel for a tiny wage she'd still send money back home.
Are you going to water aerobics? I did that last year and really enjoyed it. I could really workout and go for much longer than if I wasn't being supported by water. The pool is difficult for me to get to but when my parents come back from Portugal at the end of March (they are retired and went to spend the winter out there because it's warmer!) I will hopefully be able to start going again if my dad will kindly drive me there and back twice a week! After I've completed my PhD the next thing I must do is learn to drive!
I've done some exercise this morning (just a couple of miles so far) and I'm going to the shops soon to get things in for dinner later today. I'm going to have my zero point veg soup with wholemeal bread for lunch and this evening I'm making Spanish Chicken with rice. It's chicken breast with tomato and thyme sauce - low in points (cals).
I hope you have a good day :)
Take care,
Sally
aria2000 02-06-06, 09:42 AM Hello Millie!
Wishing you a great day and hope your knee feels better!
Reading about getting married young reminded me of my own grandma who got married at 14 (the oldest of 10 children!) and lived a long and happy life (she died at 93). It is always so good and inspiring to see people recover from a bad childhood.

millie47 02-08-06, 04:40 PM hi everyone, i am typing this with one hand so bare with me.
i am doing better, the wrist is still painful still taking pain meds. which has not helped much!!!
so with all that i have missed doing my water classes. i tell yoy i feel like someone is tring to stop me from losing weight, lol. but i will not give in lol.
the last few days i have been under my calories due to the pain meds. had my tummy not feeling so good. BUT I LOST 2 MORE POUNDS. i am happy about that:D .
my body has so many bruises in every place. i don't know how i could have hit so many places at one time. hubby called last night, so i told him. he asked me if i was tring to kill my self, lol.
aria,sally, jo,
thanks so much for all the good wishes. that is so sweet to have others you never meet to think of you. always nice to have friends.
i think today i will have around 1,200 calories.
the two or three days before i only had like1,000 due to tummy being upset.
hope everyone has a nice day.
PhD Girl 02-08-06, 07:17 PM Hi Millie,
Glad you're starting to recover :)
Even though people are at a distance here, I think we do all genuinely care :ghug: You have actually crossed my mind the past couple of days and I've wondered how you're doing and if you're feeing better.
It's good you're not letting it effect your weight loss progress, but the main thing is to make sure you concentrate on your recovery - maybe the odd medicinal bit of chocolate will help you feel better :)
Thanks for taking the time to post in my journal even though you're sore and it's difficult - you're a :*
Hope you feel better very soon,
Sally
Millie, So sorry to read about your fall. Did you slip on ice? How painful!! You must have really fell hard to have those bruises and broken glasses. I cringe thinking of the pain. Hope you feel more comfortable soon. I am thinking of you!!!! Take care of yourself.
millie47 02-10-06, 01:47 AM Hi Everyone, Well had a good day. My 20 year old son took me shopping today. It was really nice to get out and do some walking. I really needed it.
I am still VEEERRRYYYY sore but I am moving so thats a good thing.
ran in to two workers and they said we heard you got hurt. Good news travels
fast, lol. They asked me who gave you the two black eyes. I said I did that also in the fall. They said it sure does look like you got beat up. I told them thats the way i feel.
Hubby called again today to see how I was doing. He said he had gotten sick yesterday but was feeling better today.

Sally, Thanks for posting. I am doing my best not to let this affect my weight loss goal. Thanks so much for thinking of me. It's great to have friends. I am slowly getting better.
Susan, Thanks for posting. No I didn't fall on ice. I fell down stairs in the laundry room. We have a 1/2 of a bath in there. you have to go up three steps. I got up there and went to turn around and lost my balance and went flying into the dry, which was quite a drop. I end up with two black eyes also. Thanks for thinking of me.
Hope all has a great day!
I go to Ann Arbor to see the eye Dr's there on Feb. the 22nd. That is a 4 some hour drive yek.
JoThrive 02-10-06, 11:28 PM Hi, Millie:
I am so glad that you are moving around and are well on your way to recovery. Your fall could have hurt you more than you were hurt. Just behave yourself and get better soon.
Keep smiling -
aria2000 02-10-06, 11:57 PM Hello Millie!
I was under the impression that I posted in your journal this morning...
I think I forgot the "submit" button!
Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that I am very happy to hear that you are feeling better and are walking!
millie47 02-11-06, 02:06 AM Jo, Thanks for posting. You are so right I could have gotten hurt worst. I am sure glad I did not crack my head, lol. I need all I have.
Thanks for checking on me.
Aria, Thanks for posting and checking on me.I hate it when I do a long post then lose it. Then I can't remeber what I typed, lol.
I had a good day today. But kind of boring. I am going to try and see if I can do some of my walk away the pound tapes tomorrow. Even if it is only 10 or 15 min. and slow. I really need to get up and do more. I will start slow maybe 10 min. 2 times a day. What ever will work for me.

Oh my gosh, Millie! I miss reading your journal for a few days and you go and break your wrist (and apparently beat yourself up everywhere else!). Hope you are feeling better. Good for you moving around and keeping things in motion so you don't get stiff. Hang in there. In spite of it all, you're still eating well and losing! Way to go!! Bet hubby wishes he could be home to take care of you.....Keeping you in my prayers.
PhD Girl 02-12-06, 02:56 AM Hey Millie,
You're doing yourself proud exercising with a broken wrist!! I'd be sat back in my recliner chair eating pizza probably!
Keep up the great work!
You're a :*
Sally
doowadnil 02-12-06, 03:26 AM Hi Millie,
Just thought I'd visit your journal. I've never been much of a social butterfly, so I need some practice.
Sorry to hear about your fall down the steps. Hope your wrist is feeling better. My mother fell down her steps too, just before Christmas, and broke her ankle, but she is recovering, and I'm sure you will too.
You have problems with your knees? Arthritis? I have arthritis problems in my feet mostly, but also a little in my knees, back, and hands. You are smart to stay active, so you don't get stiff. You seem to have so much energy, and courage. I admire you. I know we can both get some weight off our joints too!!!!! :cheer:
Hi Millie, Glad to read you are moving around, but you take care of that wrist. I don't want to read that you have re injured it! (I will be your nagging mom - LOL) I am sure it is hard to not be able to do the things you normally do. Very frustrating. How long before the cast comes off? Take care and have a good week.
aria2000 02-12-06, 11:05 AM Hello Millie! :)
Wishing you a great day!
Hi millie thought I'd return the visit. And here i find you under the weather. Take care. And try to stay on your feet. Your hands were made to eat with not walk on. Well then maybe there's a plus there you only have one hand to eat with. Might do wonders for the weight loss.
Hi Millie: Just popping in for a minute..You fell...I missed that..sorry for that .Hope your wrist is feeling better real soon...
You are doing great...Thank you for the support you always give me..

JoThrive 02-14-06, 11:46 PM Hi, Millie -
I'm glad you are able to be out and about. Craft store? What are you making? I do knitting and crocheting, and a few other crafts. Craft stores are fun to wander through.
I am so glad that you are feeling better.
:D Hi Millie Hope your doing well. Great job on sticking to your calories. Don't feel bad about just doing 10 minutes of exercise that is still exercise. Just go at your pace. Some how I have missed that your hubby was overseas. I don't know how I missed that. So sorry he has to be away that must be really hard. We all appreciate those serving no matter where they are serving. Hope you have a really good week. Hang in there.
Hi Millie. How nice to get out with others and shop for craft things. I love doing that! So you have snow, eh? Good ol Michigan!! We are to expect snow tomorrow and into Friday. I am hoping it won't be too much. Enjoy the rest of the week. Take care!!
millie47 02-16-06, 12:31 AM Hi All,
I had another good day.went shopping again and just did a lot of looking around, thought it would help just the walking.
I weighed my self today and I Have lost 15 pounds since the first of Jan. I don't know why I caught it today but it hit all at once. So I guess that is doing pretty good since I got back to my healthy eating again.
We Have a big winter storm coming our way tonight through Friday. I sure hope we don't get as much as they are saying!

I went to the craft store to buy yarn. I love crocheting. I am going to make a table cloth. wish I knew how to knit, but never did learn. I don't think I am that good at crocheting, I do the easy things. My mom is real good at all kinds of crafts.I usely don't have time with working. But now that am not working I can, lol.
Sumyms, So nice to see your post. I thought the same thing 10 min. is better than nothing. I did 10 this morning and another 10 this evening. Also went shopping so I hope I burned some calories today.
I am tring to go slow so I don't set my knees off to much.
Hope all has a great one!
PhD Girl 02-16-06, 03:28 AM Hi Millie,

Take care of yourself, and keep smiling -
PhD Girl 02-17-06, 01:05 PM :cheer: yeah, 16lbs !!
Wow - great job! 16 is super!!! Well done with getting that tape in. Hope you have a successful weekend.
millie47 02-18-06, 11:37 PM Hello Everyone,
Sorry I did not post yesterday,we had a ice storm and many lost power. And of course I was one of them. The temp got down to 2 F. So It was so COLDDDDDDDD! Our power was out for 14 hours, way to long for me. I started the fire place but it sure did not help much. I was so happy when it came back on about 11 pm.
I have had a good day again. I took my best friend and her hubby out to dinner for her birthday. I did real well with my eating. I had a 6oz grill steak a baked potato (with my diet butter 0 fat 0 calories) and a salad with fat free dressing( small amount), and coffee. So I think I did pretty good. I am always a little worried that I will mess up when I go out to eat.

Sally, Thanks for posting and cheering me on.
Susan, Thanks for posting and encouragement! Did yall get much snow there? Boy it is cold here!
Hope all has a great weekend!
PhD Girl 02-19-06, 03:52 AM Hey Millie,
Sorry to hear about the ice storm! You're not having much luck are you?! At least it wasn't for too long - although 14 hours is long enough!
I think you did great with your eating out choices. I think also it helps if you eat an apple or something if you can before you go, because that can take the edge off abit! Worse thing to do is to go out to eat when you're ravenous - then everything will be so tempting! Same as when you go grocery shopping. I always try to make sure I do it after I've just eaten, so I don't feel hungry, so I'm more likely to succumb then!
Have a good Sunday. I'm just going to be working at home today then this evening I'm meeting a friend to see Walk the Line.
Sally x
Great job with your eating! I worry when I eat out, too. Glad that power is back on. That can make things scary when it is so cold. Talked to my sis in Grand Rapids. Theirs went out during the night. She went into work. Power finally came back on around 3:00 at their place. Her husband was home. No fireplace, so he wandered to various neighbors trying to stay warm.
Well, weekend is about over. I have PT conferences this week. It will be a long and tiring week. Also difficult to exercise. Will be glad to get past this.
aria2000 02-19-06, 10:24 AM Hello Millie!
Great job at the restaurant! It is so hard to resist!
Happy to hear everything is back to normal |
