So far, I have not been very good at meeting my goals. For years I have said "I'm going to lose X amount of weight!" Unfortunately, every year I have gained more weight. The worst was when I was 18 and had just gotten married. I gained 20lbs the first year we were married and have gained another 13 since then. I hope that through hard work and dedication I can lose all the weight I gained and then some to reach my 125lb goal. It's not going to be easy and I may need some :help: but when it is all over with I know it will be worth it.

I have so many reasons to lose weight. I want to be happier and healthier. I want to be a mom someday. I want to surprise my husband with a better sexier body when he gets home from submarine school. All of these reasons and many more will be my motivation to lose weight!

Good luck to all of us here at diettalk.com, may we all reach our weight loss goals. :)

:) It's a fact when we stay positive and say that we will DO something, it will come to pass. We find ourselves fulfilling our own prophecies. This is good! It's necessary to keep telling ourselves we are going to rid ourselves of the excess weight. At first we may have doubts yet, if we keep saying it, it WILL happen We will find the way to MAKE it happen, for us...and... We NEVER "fail", we only "QUIT". So, let's not quit telling ourselves we can do this!

YOU are on your way...I wish you much success!

Thank you so much for the support and encouragement! It is great to know that someone out there understands and is going through the same thing. Good luck to you and may you reach your goals!

Today I did great! I walked for 15 minutes and lifted weights for another 15 min. I also met my water goal. I drank 1/2 gallon of water today! I'm so exctied. I believe I'm really on the way to losing this weight for good!!

Good luck everyone!

Yesssssss! Good job! See what happens when you believe in yourself? I'm so happy for you. Keep drinking that water, it flushes fat from the body, makes your skin soft and supple, AND has nutrients, believe it or not. I, myself, drink a gallon a day. I have a huge tumbler on my desk and drink from it all day long.

Luvbeinawmn- Thanks so much. Your support means a lot! It's great that you drink a gallon everyday...I'm hoping to work up to that. Right now that seems like so much! I know it will be easier once I get used to drinking water again. I usually drink pop or tea....I was never much of a water drinker. Now, I'm actually starting to like water more than other drinks which I never thought would happen!

Anyway, for today's journal. I have not been very good today. I drank all of my water, but have been playing 'catch up' on my school work and laundry, so I didn't do any exercising. I also didn't follow my diet as closely as I wanted. Tomorrow is a new day though and I will start all over. I plan on exercising extra tomorrow to make up for today. I may even drink more water than I have planned in order to make up for the food I've eaten today. I am once again writing my reasons for losing weight and am adding more so that I know exactly what I am working for.

I want to be happier and healthier. I want to be a mom someday. I want to surprise my husband with a better sexier body when he gets home from submarine school. New, cuter clothes! (Is it just me or do they actually make all the cute clothes for women who are super skinny??)

Good luck to everyone! Happy dieting! :lift: Amy

Okay, so things haven't been going so good this week. Last week was great: I drank my water and exercised almost everyday, but this week is turning out to be a big failure! I have no motivation to do anything....not even my homework. And, to top it all off, my husband and I got in a fight last night. He's in Groton and calls every day at least once. Yesterday we got into a fight about my weight of all things. He thinks I should go to a doctor, but I don't want to go back. I went last year, followed the doctor's advice for 2 months and gained 10lbs! Any helpful thoughts? :help:

Anyway, my goals for the rest of this week:
1. Drink 1/2 gallon of water everyday
2. Walk 1 hour a day

Good luck everyone! :)

Psssssst! How are you today? Making those steps to meeting your goals? Don't tell anyone buuuut...I'm slacking today...I'm trying to find some motivation. I thought, perhaps, encouraging someone else, might help me too....so here I am!:) I've written in my journal. I find that when I ask for help here, they normally respond with great enthusiasm. I love this site! Sooooooo...let us all know how it's going today...okay??? We're cheering for you!:D

It was great to hear from you today! It's nice to know that someone cares so much! I have done very good today. I have stayed under my calories and I went with my sister to the gym. We worked out for over an hour! :lift:
Sometimes it's hard to stay motivated....I definitely understand that! Don't get discouraged though...put on some good music and dance for a while, or take your dog for a walk.....just get up and get moving. Then reward yourself with a nice bubble bath or a good movie. Good luck with everything!!!! Amy :coach: :cheer:

Disneygirl-
Thanks so much! It is great to have your support! I can't wait to read your journal and see your journey. Journaling here makes dietting much easier. This week I've done fairly good. Haven't been counting my calories, but I've been exercising and I have come up with a plan. I am going to start riding my bike to work everyday. I think that will really help with my weight loss goals. Good luck to everyone. Amy :)

Okay, so it's weigh in time and I'm scared to look at the scale! I haven't exactly been good the last couple of days and I am afraid I haven't lost any weight. Depending on the results I may have to change my strategies. I am hoping though that I can call my husband and tell him that I have lost weight. Keeping my fingers crossed and will post in a few hours! Amy

Hi Amy. Way to go!!!! Just think........you will soon be under 200lbs!!! Making it under 200 lbs is my first goal.

It is difficult to stick to the plan, so don't be so hard on yourself if you slip up every once in awhile. There are literally millions of people in the world who are overweight. You are not alone. Just try not to get overwhelmed by the job at hand. Take it one day at a time. The beginings of all things are small. Little by little you can reach your goal.

And don't do it for your husband. Do it for yourself. Because your're worth it!! :cheer: :cheer:

Thanks so much guys! I'm really excited about this. I can't wait to be under 200lbs again....it means so much to me. I was very mad at myself for getting to be this overweight. Now that I've finally decided to do something about it, and it's actually working, I'm very excited and proud of myself. The best part? Having supportive people like you to talk to! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! :ghug: Amy

Went to the doctor today. He put me on phentermine (sp?). He did that because I gained 22 pounds in seven months while I was on the diet he recommened. This is supposed to make your metabolism higher and it is an appetite suppressant. I have decided to try it for a month and see what happens. Amy

Luvstruck: I too just got put on phentermine...I started taking it this morning and already feel as though I have more energy. I took this before (about 8 years ago) and had great success with it.....of course, after I reached my goal weight, I stopped working out and took more liberties with my diet and before I knew it something happened that I thought I would NEVER let happen....I gained most of my weight back....I am going to be sure not to do it this time.

Don't feel bad about taking the phentermine....sometimes people need a jumpstart. I know I do...I have been on a bad cycle of lots of false starts...which just keeps on making me feel awful and hopeless....all I need is a little incentive to get my butt moving again. I haven't even been feeling as though I can go to the gym or out to different places because I feel so ashamed of gaining my weight back.....hopefully we will both have new success!

I am new here and really think it is great to have a place to talk with people who actually UNDERSTAND how difficult of a struggle this can be.

02-07-06, 06:58 PM
lesliewiz- thanks for the support. It is nice to know that someone else has done this and will know what I'm going through!:)
Today was good. I took the phentermine and it seems to have helped. I can't say 100% sure because this is only the first time I've taken it, but I'll find out soon enough. Anyway, I have stayed under my calories for today and I have done about half of my exercising. My husband called so I got sidetracked. I will be finishing up tonight though and then I will post again tomorrow. Good luck everyone!

Okay, so the exercising that I was going to do last night never got done. I spent way too much time on the phone and then I went to my mom's and we spent the whole night watching tv. It was ridiculous! I even tried to leave early so I could come home and exercise, but she wanted me to stay because of stuff that's been going on. I couldn't tell her no so I ended up being there until 10:30pm! After that I just wanted to go to bed. Anyway...today my goal is to walk for an hour. First I have to go to the mall and pick up some stuff then I'm going to walk on my treadmill...or maybe I'll take the dog for a walk...not sure which.

On top of that, I weighed myself today and I haven't lost any weight this week. I didn't gain any either, so that is a positive. This week I am going to try to get more exercise and to eat better. This week was really bad. I gained 1 pound. I am in the middle of moving and have been eating really bad foods. We had a pot luck at work on Friday and I ate lots of chips and dip, some cake, a brownie and a rice krispy treat with frosting. Then last night, my family had a going away party for me and we had pizza for dinner and cake and ice cream for dessert. I had tons of chips and dip there too. Also, I haven't had time to do any walking this week. I worked everyday for 8-11 hours each day.

Well, it has been a month since I last posted and unfortunately, I have gained back a lot of the weight that I lost. I weighed in at 194 a couple of days ago. The last month has been horrible for my diet! I moved from WY to CT and was eating out almost every meal until my furniture got here last week. Hi--

I have been reading through your journal, and boy, are you hard on yourself!! Dieting doesn't have to be torture. Ok, yes, you gained back some weight, and that is annoying as can be. (I've done that plenty of times myself!) You cannot change what is done, however, so it's a waste of energy to worry about it. You can, however, make realistic goals and plans for the next couple of days, and just take little baby steps at a time until you reach your goal. Keeping a journal at DT is a really good way to keep yourself accountable, too.

Good luck. We'll all be cheering you on! :coach:

Good to see you checking back in! You will be successful if you just keep at it, a little bit at a time. Hooray for no pop.

I notice you've been drinking a lot of juices. Better than pop because of the carbonation, but just be careful and read the labels. Some of those juices have just as much sugar and calories as pop does. Fruit punch is especially tricky, as many brands have only 10% real juice, so it's basically glorified Kool-Aid. Have you ever tried any of those flavored waters? I like the Aquafina raspberry one, but Nestle makes a good one, too. No calories in any of those.

Keep up the good work. You'll see success if you keep taking those baby steps!
