View Full Version : Athletea's Adventures in Amazonialand
Athletea 01-24-06, 11:30 AM "We're on the march!" saith Crone Jana the Jungle Lass, Exercise Queen o' the Wild Exercise Amazonian Tribe, which has latterly taken over Diet Town Village. Finding the folk there to be sedentary 'n set in their exercise ways, the Amazonians decided that instead of issuing new laws for the place, they'd just kidnap the noble Inspector Athletea, latterly in command o' the No Refined Sugar Demon Fighting Precint House, and initiate her into their tribe.
Time passes.
Newly initiated Amazonian Athletea realizes that the tribal religion forbids fornification with Demon Refined Sugar and so decides she can in good conscience give her all to membership in this sisterhood. Deep in a jungle clearing, by the Sparkling Superhealthy Magickal Waterfall, with the Beneficial Sun relaxing her every pore, she swears eternal fealty to Tribal Principals: LIFESTYLE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY OR FORMAL EXERCISE 24/7; and, of course, NO REFINED SUGAR FOR 365 DAYS IN A ROW!
"Let's go!!!" confirms Crone Jana the Jungle Lass, the leader o' the pack!
So everyone went off to do a Leslie Sansone video, thus demonstrating the First Spiritual Principle of the Amazonian Exercisers: WE DON'T NEED A GYM TO BE FIT AND WE DON'T NEED A PERSONAL TRAINER TO TELL US WHAT TO DO 'CAUSE WE KNOW!
Then members of the tribe went off on their personal jungle errands for the day.
Film at 11!

Athletea 01-25-06, 12:43 PM Yo, to Sandie, Rose 'n the Noble JoJo!!! Jana the jungle lass 'preciates ye trekkin' through the mosquito infested jungle to find her ... she's smilin' 'n feelin' sort of ok!!!
Not meanin' to abstain from visitin' the journals o' others here, just short o' time lately ... life seems to be gettin' complex ... well, always was complex, I guess, or maybe not. I can't decide ... I realized I have been basically doing Body For Life for Women (Pam Peeke, M.D.) for a week, have posted a thread in the land far far to see if anyone wanted to join me in this endeavor. I'm going to do the exercise rotation sample in the book, although the days off the week are skewed for me in week one ... and continue to eat as I am, which is pretty basically exactly as the book states, except she doesn't require ye to give up sugar ... I've made a few mods to her WOE, of course ... always gotta have the mods.
I will continue to divide my workouts between home and gym and the great outdoors when the heat returns, which will be quite soon, in Arizona, at any rate.
Have to work tonight, so going shopping now.
aria2000 01-25-06, 12:47 PM Athletea, I was just curious: what kind of weather do you have now?
Athletea 01-25-06, 03:35 PM Yo, Aria! It's chilly today and maybe will rain! Hasn't rained in something like 90-plus days, so guess that's good! I don't know what the temp is ... I've learned to ignore the temperature ... I think it's in the 70s, which feels cold to me, warm to the winter visitors!
Keep us posted on the new program. All this amazon talk is kind of scary...
Later

Athletea 01-25-06, 06:24 PM I'm kind of a scary lady sometimes, C!!! I'll keep thee posted!
sandielynne 01-25-06, 08:09 PM Bull! Nothing scary about you at all Athletea!!
I'll trapse through the Amazon anything to find you. Snakes and spiders and things don't scare me at all. And I don't mind wearing Deep Woods OFF to keep them skeeters at bay either! hahaha
Keep up the good work-out lady! :lift: You need all that extra energy to keep them Sugar Demons away!!
Athletea 01-26-06, 11:15 AM Yo, Sandie!! You are sweet! :) I AM gettin' scary, though ... told someone off last night and felt great! Must be the BFLFW challenge ... today I did the "pivot" I was going to save for next week because I have a desire to follow the printed sample rotation in the book exactly, not a plan requirement but I just am using this as a way to get some coherence in my exercise program. So I did lower body weights and abs at home ... resulting in two days of lower body/abs (which the book says not to do but s'ok) and am now on track with the days as specified.
Jana the Jungle Lass did point out to Athletea (who ARE we today, dunno) that this desire to follow the chart exactly is obsessive, but we don't care 'bout anyone's opinion right now, we're just on the march!
Eating good and on track for BFLFW, with a modification or two.
sandielynne 01-26-06, 03:29 PM Go! Athletea Go!!
You know what? If necessary I tell people off too, and yes, it DOES feel good. Sometimes we just have to stand up and say what's on our mind!! Nothing wrong with that AT ALL!
The food is good, the exercise is getting better, what more can I say! Yoo Hoo!!! Hooray for YOU!
Athletea 01-27-06, 11:43 PM Yo, Sandie!!! Thanks for your kind words, dunno, Jana the Jungle Lass be goin' through a period o' depression over some stuff ...
Havin' failed to really get back to work today, she trekked through the rain forest to the Superjunglemart and pushed a bamboo cart around in search o' BFLFW type foods, finding that she was feelin' very sad and frustrated and hearin' the Sugar Demon :lil: in all its nasty forms callin' at her from every aisle. She negotiated with self to buy fitness mags and peanut butter (natural, of course, with no sugar) instead and to lie on sofa the rest o' the day with Ancient Dog, but not to give up the sugar free state (Day 27) and not to give up on BFLFW, which I am journaling on another forum hoping to get some fellow travelers.
It was my cardio day and I did 30 minutes of Leslie, but added a lot of intensity, which one has to do with Leslie if one wants to call it cardio. :) For instance, I jog or double time the walking in place segments and I usually add some extra time, etc., etc. ... tomorrow is upper body day! :)
JoThrive 01-28-06, 11:56 AM Hi, Athletea:
I almost feel like I should renew my passport whenever I visit you. It is always such an adventure.

Athletea 01-28-06, 09:18 PM Hi, Athletea:
I almost feel like I should renew my passport whenever I visit you. It is always such an adventure.

Adventure be the main thing in life, dinna ye think, Ms. JoJo!! :D Thankee fer trekkin' through the mosquito infested swamp to find me on Body For Life For Women Survivor Island!
Havin' posted all about my BFLFW workout earlier today, guess there's not a lot to say 'cept the increase in resistance training consistency has made me hungry and I've had too many cals all week. Tomorrow is weigh-in day and I do expect to be up but also think some of that will be muscle as I've made progress doing the rotation this week, even though my actual workout time has been less.
Day 28, no refined sugar.
My second week of BFLFW starts Monday ... I will continue to weigh in on the last day of each program week, e.g., Sunday. I am logging cals and exercise on Fitday PC ... the book uses cal counting as an alternative to the eating plan, which I am mostly following but have modified (of course).
If I seem obsessed, I am. Was reading in some mag or other about exercise obsession and obsession with even a healthy diet and the medicoes were moanin' 'n groanin' about folks who consistently think 'bout this stuff and that'd be me, I guess.
Howsomever, I am not anorexic (been there), bullemic (been there), nor do I avoid responsibilities, work or other life commitments to exercise (well, maybe sometimes). I like to exercise. I like to eat a healthy diet and maintain a healthy body weight.
But according to that story, I suffer from an illness! :help: Guess I should give all this effort up and go back to 247 pounds. :D
Not bloody likely.
Corinna 01-28-06, 09:48 PM I never feel good telling people off.
Hey, do they make you only do 20 minutes of cardio for BFLFW?
Corinna
Athletea 01-29-06, 12:40 PM I never feel good telling people off.
Hey, do they make you only do 20 minutes of cardio for BFLFW?
Corinna
I do, when it needs to be said! :)
No, BFLFW recommends 30 minutes of cardio on cardio days, and indicates that it can increase as you progress ... or add extra cardio sessions.
The sample rotation that I am doing rotates cardio days with weight days, the weight days rotate upper body and lower body/abs, with one "free day" ... this is just a sample, you can pretty much do as you like. It recommends "Vitamin I" (intensity) ... e.g., increasing weights and cardio as you progress, and there is an eating method with an alternative of counting calories.
I actually GAINED two pounds this week, expected one, but anyhow ... I know it's largely due to an increased calorie level AND the fact that even though I seem to be doing less exercise by time, I have really hit the weights hard and consistently, as I have not been doing in awhile and I feel as though I've gained some muscle.
Am calling this the start of Week II, although will continue on with the rotation on the specified days of the week. This is the "free day" and I did some dynamic stretch.
Will lower cals and increase cardio intensity in a quest to get back to 137.4 in the next two weeks! I'd have to eat too low, according to Fitday PC, to achieve a 2 pound loss in one week and I do not believe in starvation.
aria2000 01-31-06, 10:21 AM Hello Athletea!
I had computer problems, so I could not visit.
Wishing you a great day!
sandielynne 01-31-06, 09:30 PM Hi Athletea,
I'm with you. I will tell a person off if it really needs saying. Otherwise, some people will walk all over you and not even pause to look back.
I'm sorry for your gain, but it probably is muscle, as you said. I could probably do better if I would add strength training too, but I'm just not ready quite yet.
I think you are doing just great Athletea. Even when you get down a bit you keep on going, regardless. I think it's amazing that you have actually stayed away from all sugar for 4 weeks now. I could never do that!
Have a great week!
Athletea 01-31-06, 10:06 PM Yowza! (Jungle war cry from Jana the Jungle Lass)! Thanks for visiting Sandie 'n Aria!!! I be wanderin' a bit in the Land o' BFLFW (Body For Life For Women), which has me exercising six days a week and it's goin' great! I am totally metabolizing differently and feel I will show a loss soon. Also watchin' cals and in the main following the BFLFW food plan.
Sandie, I think you'd love strength training and you don't really have to kill yourself to get results. You can get results starting with very light or no weights, or bands, or a variety of things, but it's important to have some sessions with a trainer to learn proper technique, as with resistance training, technique is everything. If you don't want to use a trainer, there are some great vids out there ... or books like BFLFW! :)
Anyhow, forgive me if I tell you things you likely already know ... I'm just chatty tonight as it's one of the few nights I have off for awhile.
I had a trainer for four years ... then another one recently, but I was getting sporadic and sloppy with the training and that was making me weak and out of shape ... hence the BFLFW ... I am just loving it.
Ms. A!!! I can't help but notice thy weight number goin' down there!!! Great work!!! :cheer: Thanks for the visit!
Avanti!
I kind of have the headache I had weeks before the flu that started off the pneumonia ... so I shall lie down and assume it will go away!
Athletea 02-01-06, 11:08 AM Jana the Jungle Lass is doing so well with the BFLFW rotation that she wisheth to open her personal gym in the jungle (translation, I want to start a new journal). She hath purchased a small piece o' jungle real estate and in partnership with the Queen o' the Amazonians, is goin' into biz to get all the Amazons up to snuff physically in the remaining 10.5 weeks of the BFLFW tranformation round now extant in the scary diet jungle where Jana (formerly Atheletea) dwelleth!
