I am slowly trying to move on with my life and get strong. I've faced a number of challenges over the last few months. it's not going to be easy but I need to try and get back into life. My appetite has increased dramatically, I know I need to do something to regain control. I'm killing myself slowly if I don't. I went to the Doc and am now 276 but feel like 356
it's hard to move, hard to breath, I hate going out etc.... I've decided to take it one step at a time --- Step 1 ---DRINK MORE WATER!!!!!!!
We'll see how I do!8-|

Mitzy~ It's amazing how things have a snowball effect and the #1 affected thing is our freaking eating habits... why couldn't we just exercise more!? Well anyways..... water is THE best goal you could start with. GOOD LUCK! You can SO do this! I had my first day of my own "bootcamp" to get in good shape for a cruise I am going on for Spring Break, and it's AMAZING how good I feel already. 1 day of working out & dieting.. and I feel on top of the world.

YOU GO GIRL :cheer:

I'm back ! I finally got a new computer at home, so should be able to be back on site.

All computer access is monitored at work so could not log in.

That is that. This is a new day, a new start and a new attitude.

I hope to arrange a meeting with a nutritionist this week to discuss my weight loss goals and a feasible plan.

I am booked for surgery at the end of the month and would like to lose about 10 pounds before I go under.

I've made good progress with drinking my water and will be working on a healthy eating plan with increased physical activity.

Hiya, Lee! Welcome back!

Great that you have a new computer. Being able to log on whenever you feel the urge to eat can really help. The nutritionist should be really helpful as well if you take his/her advice to heart. You mentioned surgery... weight loss surgery? Or something else? I hope all is well and that you will keep up the great attitude and keep posting. Have missed you!

Lisrey, Nancy

It's great to hear from you two. I've missed you. Well it sounds like the nutritionist won't be able to fit me in til September.:( ....But I still plan to work on this and drop some weight prior to our meeting.

Lisrey -- No it's not Weight loss surgery and I'm sure everything will be fine. It will mean I'll have to focus more on my eating habits that exercise following the surgery for a while. But I'm sure I'll be back at Curves in no time.

Thanks for the help and encouragement. I have to head back to the office so will check in later tonight.

See ya!:)

Here we go --- this is Starting over Sunday. :)

The day I fully begin my new commitment to a healthy lifestyle. I'm following the same healthy eating plan that my friend is (who is working with the nutrionist). It includes all the food groups and has a balanced approach. It also has me weighing food portions, and myself twice a week, and going for a 30 min a day walk. I guess I'll be buying a couple of scales. :D Today I plan to hit the grocery store and stock up on what I need, with that in mind yesterday I cleaned out my cupboards and will donate the food that doesn't fit in this plan. (Lipton Noodles and Sauce, Pasta, etc) Following the visit to the store and refilling the propane for the barbeque I plan to cook my meals for the week. I find that's my biggest problem -- when I get home I'm hungry NOW and find if I have to cook something I just run out to a fast food place and pick something BAD up.
NO MORE! BEING PREPARED IS THE KEY FOR ME!!!! With all that to do
I better get a move on.

I WROTE THIS IN NANCY'S JOURNAL AND FELT THIS WAS SOMETHING I NEEDED TO INCLUDE IN MY OWN
I recently took in a lecture on that and bought this great book that is really helping to motivate me. It's the "Law of Attraction" by Canadian Author Michael Losier (www.LawOfAttractionBook.com) The concept is that -- We attract to ourself whatever we give our attention, energy and focus to, whether wanted or unwanted. The Law of Attraction responds to how you feel about what you say and think. If we are thinking or talking negative then we attract negative results. If we think or talk positively we attract positive results. We are in the process of making a healthly lifestyle change.

Lee,

Glad to see that you are not letting the fact of not seeing the nutritionist til September deter you from your mission. Great idea to follow what your friend is doing.

The comments you made about the book, both here and in my journal, sound very interesting. It sure doesn't help to dwell in the negative, that is one big thing that i have learned here.

Well, I hope your day is going well.

Lisrey

Planning is a HUGE key. If you can figure out how to get some quick, healthy meals made you'll be doing fine. My personal trainer also encouraged me to eat a protein snack in between lunch and dinner. I eat high protein puddings (I buy them at the vitamin shop) that have about 100 calories, and they keep me from starving when my dinner is late.

Good to have you back!

Lisrey, Nancy -- Thanks for stopping by. I am pleased with my planning.
Last night I BBQ'd a roast and cut it up into the dedicated meals and tonight I bbq'd chicken and potatoes. I will package them individually as well so all I have to do is grab them from the freezer and reheat with a potato or rice. I also will precook some carrots as well and pre package salads. I had a good day but really need to work on my water intake. Tomorrow will be a challenge since I'm on the road all morning -- we leave work at 7 so will need to be up by about 5. I still have lots to do and an early morning so I'm checking out for tonight. I hope to touch base tomorrow.

Hi Beth, Nancy - thanks for stopping by. I hope I can keep up to the changes I need to make. A big step for me has been moving to skim milk -- I actually like it now. Still need to really work on increasing my water. I also cut back on the cable channels so I won't be sitting on my butt as much. I'm pleased with the changes I'm making it's slow but what do they say -- slow and steady wins the race. While I have a meeting first thing tomorrow and then on the road again for the an event in the afternoon - so I better head off to bed. I'm looking forward to the weekend when I have to time to catch up on everyone's journals.

Hey Lee,

So how are you doing? Have you been getting lots of storms like us? It is crazy sometimes.

Glad things have cooled off from last week, I am such a wimp sometimes. I was sweating so much then and we had a house full of company too. I do not want to be like this next summer.

Anyways, hope you are doing ok.

Hi -- I'm back. Fleureange, Nancy it's good to be back. I had to finally go back and reregister and create a new email account before I could get back in and post. So I am now listed as Mitzy 5 but it's still me (Lee). It took me a long time to get back to begin with and then just when I did I had to go for major surgery which laid me up for 8 weeks. Then just when I started getting my energy back I had to go out of town on business and have come down with a terrible cold and flu. The doc said my immune system would be low for some time and I guess he was right. Enough of the whining.......8-| !!

I'm finally here ... and looking forward to keeping things going now. I have made some progress with my weight loss but in order to keep it going I need to get out there and move. EXERCISE IS MY NEXT PRIORITY. I have accomplished my first goal of drinking more water ( I know only drink water 8 to 12 glasses a day and the occasional tea -- which is water) I am eating much healthier --- every 3 hours to nourish my body and keep the metabolism up. I am also incorporating more fiber -- greens into my eating plan. It's a slow process but this time I'm committed So far I've lost 17 pounds and on good days move to 20. Prior to this cold I was
already starting to feel better. 8-|

I'm taking it easy trying to beat this thing!

Lisrey
11-26-06, 01:26 PM
Yay!! Good to see you back again, and it sounds like you're inspired to do well with your plan. Fabulous! What kind of exercise are you planning to do?

11-27-06, 12:36 PM
Hi Ladies!! Thanks for stopping in.

Lisrey - Just starting my exercise program at the local gym
right now my Nutrionist/trainer has me doing 30 min on the treadmill.
I just got a note from her and wants to change things up in December.

Nancy - It's good to be home and have a support circle since I don't have one here. You'd be surprised at how many people try to sabatoge you...oh just have 1 it won't hurt you.

Well -- I weighed in today for my nutritionist and am down another pound.
Every one pound loss adds up I keep telling myself. Today in the mail I
got a letter for my high school reunion...not sure I really want to go (fat and only one in the class not married) It's next August so I could definately drop a few pounds by then (8-9 months away) Based on a 2 pound weight loss each week that could be over 60 pounds which would make a huge difference in my life. Whether or not I decide to go I'm going to work as if I am going to attend. They say you work harder with a goal and this would definately be it - No one would recognize me I'm sure.

Need to go and drink my water and have breakfast -- after all it's the most important meal of the day ---- late or not.

crazy2
11-27-06, 03:48 PM
Congrats on the pound gone Lee!!!!!!! That is great!!!!!!!!!!

Ah, highschool reunion, could definitely be a motivator.

I sometimes sit and 'crunch' the numbers too. I kind of would like to go back to visit family in Ontario this summer, but do'nt want to look like this. Really want to be different. So I have crunched some numbers too, but time will tell. Some people do great with that kind of motivation so if you are like that then grab ahold and go for it!!!!!!!!!!!

Mitzy5
11-28-06, 10:02 PM
Thanks Nancy! I have a tough time on the exercise thing and tonight had pasta. Not a good plan. Why do I do this to myself ... tomorrow I get back on track.

crazy2
11-28-06, 10:12 PM
Hey Mitzy, pasta can work, you just have to make it fit. Don't worry, each moment is a new moment!!!

Lisrey
11-28-06, 11:01 PM
Especially when you're starting out on a new effort, I think portion control is really your main key. Cut down on amounts and try to make the healthiest selections you can. Of course you'll have pasta sometimes (mmmm!), but maybe eat less of it than you normally would.

Good to hear that you've joined a gym! I find the variety at my gym really helpful. I thought I remembered you doing Curves awhile back. I did that for several years, but really it was just getting me ready for what I really needed -- which was the real gym.

Definitely right that each and every pound adds up. Stay focused and be patient. The reunion is a fabulous goal! You can do this!

Lisrey

:)

Thanks Ladies!!! You don't know how much I needed that tonight!
I think I feel like I'm really struggling because I don't feel well... I have a terrible
chest cough. On the bright side I was 266 today!

Mitzy5
12-01-06, 09:37 AM
Hi sorry haven't checked in lately but good news..... weigh in today was at 264 !!!

I've been sick and haven't made it to the gym this week ( Doc says it's a bronchile infection and has me on antibiotics and a two dose
asmatic/bronchile inhaler-- he tells me by Monday I should be feeling better - I hope so -- It feels like my lungs weigh a ton and have taken over my entire chest and when I cough it feels like I could
cough one up. ) At any rate hope to be back in full force Monday at the gym. My nutritionist/trainer wants to change up my exercises.

My new goal is to do just that and to raise my total pounds lost to 25 pounds by Christmas.... today being December 1 that is very reasonable.

Got to run off to work ........ I can't believe it 21 pounds gone!!

crazy2
12-02-06, 08:39 PM
Wow, Mitzy, congratulations on those pounds gone, that is just terrific. But so sorry you are so sick also. Glad the Doc is taking good care of you!!!

I also just descided to update my weight loss goals for 5.5 more by the end of the year. Hopefully before Christmas as it might be hard after that, lol.

So we can PUSH each other along!!!

Mitzy5
12-02-06, 08:43 PM
Well -- I've been struggling this week not eating or drinking enough water with being sick. As a result the scale moved up to 266 I'm sure once I get over this and back on track it will drop back down.

OH -- Tonight I got an email from my trainer on changing my program
next week I'm to steadily increase my time on the treadmill and then the following week she wants to meet with me and we will start including a weight training program. She definately knows what she's talking about there since she's won a couple of body building sculpting championships.
I hate exercise and really have to bite the bullet on this one and get on board or I'm not going to see the changes I want. I'm trying to stay positive I can do this.... and if the people at the gym need to focus on me and my fat body trying to move I feel sorry for them. I'd think there would be more important things in life. I want to get into an exercise program before the new year!!! So I can start things off right for a change.

momof2kz
12-02-06, 08:45 PM
good luck with the exercise program. i hate exercise also, but it's the only way to slim down. (besides eating right.)
take care

Mitzy5
12-02-06, 08:48 PM

Lisrey
12-02-06, 10:38 PM
Starting a real exercise program is one of the best gifts you can give yourself. If you can discover some exercise you enjoy, it will become easier. My trainer is a bodybuilder, too. She is a really interesting person, a lot different than me, but I have really come to like her. I also really like going to the gym now, even by myself. Don't worry that people are looking at you at the gym. If they are there it should mean that they are focused on their own health and should understand your goals, too. I have found that the people at my gym who notice me usually give me tips on the machines, etc., that really help.

Feel better -- and good luck!

Your right Lisrey. I'm not sure now when I'll go to the gym I saw my specialist here today regarding my tremors. When I was in the hospital he did a catscan and found some intercranial swelling. He wants to do another catscan and a Lumbar Puncture tomorrow and send the fluid away for analysis to see what's going on. A little nervous about this but I'll be happy to know what's going on and why I have the pain in my eyes and the headaches.

I went to the DR on Friday and he gave me a shot of demerol and caffeine pills to help with the headache. He also gave me a perscription for both and sent me home. It is helping ease the pain. Hi Lee :hug:I know exactly how you feel. What I had was a little different.Years ago I had what was called a psudo tumor meaning{False tumor}in my head.I would go through all the symptoms of having a tumor but it wasnt there.I had to much fluid on the brain.I would have to have spinal taps regularly.I would go blind for minutes at a time.It was very scary. After the spinal taps were over the pain was so bad It felt like my head was hallow. Before I got treated for it my head would hurt soooo bad and I would squint all the time.
I dont have it anymore...thank God.
I hope everything turns out ok for you.You sound like your in good hands. Our prayers are with you sweety.

Just stopping in quick. I'm feeling much better actually started eating again and it's staying put.. Yeah! The weight I lost while I was sick is still gone!!!Today I got to wear pants I haven't worn in a very long time. I still have a headache but it's not as bad as it has been. I see the doctor in a couple of hours so will see what he has to say

Mitzy5
12-13-06, 09:59 AM
O'kay i went to the Dr yesterday. He is putting me on a diuretic to try and
reduce the pressure on my brain, he's hoping as a result he can cut back on the beta blocker which is helping control my tremors but is also lowering my blood pressure and pulse significantly. Pulse ranges from 37 to 40
He says the low BP and pulse is making me tired and sluggish. On the bright side I weighed in today at 258...and moving on down! :):) :ex:

You guessed it, I'm just a little pleased with the weight loss. Despite the fact that nobody (other than my friends here) has said anything about it. (27 pounds gone)

Lisrey

Hi Lisrey! Thanks for stopping in. I'm very happy with the progress I've made and even happier with the fact I was at a staff Christmas party tonight
and drank only water and a sip of a liquer. Veggies, Shrimp, Cheese and maybe a slice of bread. Very pleased that I didn't indulge although the hostess has great taste in red wine (which I love) and it was flowing. With the problems and headaches I've been having I just couldn't take a chance on anything. Hopefully my weekend will go as well.

Angel Eyes -- Thanks for the support. I love the Garfield avator too.... it's me to a T. I need to check the scale on a regular basis to stay in check.

Nancy - Thanks for stopping in. I am slowly feeling better but seem to have a headache daily -- some days are just worse than others.

Hi Mitzy/Lee..... lol I've read through a lot of your journal and you are doing wonderfully! I'm sorry to hear about your medical problems, but it's good you're facing them and finding out what's going on.

Keep doing what you're doing! You are an inspiration and I have no doubt you're going to reach all your goals! Have a great week!

Mitzy5
12-23-06, 12:03 PM
Dj and Angel Eyes- Thanks for stopping in! I really appreciate the encouragement and helpful hints from everyone here!

Angel Eyes -- LOL on the scale.... I used to let the numbers get to me too.
I finally changed my mindset and instead of letting it bring me down if I show a gain (like today) I use it to reevaluate what I did and monitor my food and water intake more closely. Thanks for the inspiration!

Dj -- Thanks for the encouragement I can really use it. I've had a rough
year with medical issues but 2007 is going to be so much better as a result of finding out whats going on.

Well, Sorry I haven't checked in or been more active on the site. I spent Monday in the hospital I passed out early Monday morning and they wanted to run tests. Overall result my doc is taking me off the beta blocker (yeah!!)that dropped by blood pressure and pulse so low. He feels that's what posed the problem, I will still remain on the diuretic. He did another catscan including one with a contrast die. It shows the fluid on my brain is starting to come down which we feel means the diuretic is working. Yeah!!! I'm
not good at taking pills. With the changes I had headaches off and on throughout the week but was able to manage. However my eating suffered (missed meals and meds that work on insulin which I take with meals) and as a result showed a gain. I know that will drop easily once I get my eating back on track which is what I will work on over the next couple of weeks.
I also plan to start an exercise program -- nothing too intensive but will work on the treadmill...wish I had one here at home. This Santa's helper can't afford one. 8-| Unfortanetly with my health issue and more tests to go next week I can't fly home for the holidays so will be here alone. Well me and the hound dog. Will make the most of it though and use the time off to refocus and connect with my goals. A friend gave me Dr Mehmet Oz book You on a Diet --- So will be spending a lot of time reading.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all My Friends here at Diettalk! :tree: :frosty:

Lisrey, Nancy, sbraun - thanks for stopping in and the support.
Welcome to my jouurnal sbraun!!! I hate being sick :-& and hope to end the note on an upswing. sbraun your right I have lost weight but have hated every minute of it this week.

Weigh in today 253 .... thats 32 pounds gone! I hope to start feeling better and get on track and lose the next 30 through exercise.

So I committed myself to the new 21 day Challenge that Beth is starting. I'm excited that should help me focus on my exercise
after reading it again and evaluating my first goals I thought given my health I might be too aggressive so for the first challenge I will scale it down a bit because I want to succeed.

So Here are my Revamped goals

1 Stay focus and committed to the Healthy Eating Plan

2 Exercise 30 min at least twice a week.

3 Change my attitude to be less stressed and more easy going

32 pounds is awesome!! I am so happy for you!

I have a little suggestion as far as your exercise goals. To me, the key was making exercise a habit. In order to do that, frequency, not duration or intensity, is what's important. Instead of 30 minutes twice a week, why don't you shoot for 15 minutes 4 times a week? If you decide on a given day that you're enjoying it and go to 20 or 30 minutes, that's a bonus. I personally would find it easier to build from there. If it was only twice a week for me, I'd feel it was a chore.

Whatever you do, good luck! I know you can succeed!

seems I drop when I don't drink the milk.

I'm also going to try and increase my water intake

Don't get frustrated yet. If you've been sick recently, your body may be trying to build up some energy here. You have terrific goals and with a little patience, you will reach them. You have all the know-how to make it work -- keep going!

I don't know what I'd do without my support team here!

Lisrey, Crazy -- you rule and you always seem to know when I need a boost.

I weighed in this morning at 258 -- official weigh in is Wed so we'll see
how things go.

I made a real effort to drink the water today -- 11 cups

I could have done better on eating and will try and improve that tomorrow.

I will also make an effort to get to the gym tomorrow - I just repacked my gym bag --- Saturday I forget my Tshirt and worked out in my blouse.

I have no idea where my head is at sometimes.

I AM IN THE PROCESS OF DEVELOPING A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE CHANGE AND REACHING MY IDEAL GOAL.

Lee, now look at that. You forgot your T-shirt, BUT you didn't just go home and skip it, you stayed and workout in your blouse!!! Whoohoo, that is just awesome!!!

Lisrey, Millie -- thanks for stopping in.

I need all the encouragement I can get. Well I stepped on the scale this morning at 257...I'm all over the map but don't seem to be very regular if you get what I mean. Today I'm going to look for fiber pills and will try to increase my fiber intake over the next week. I've never been a big veggie person so that is my big challenge for the coming week. I've been good at moving -- made it to the gym twice this week and yesterday did all the laundry ( I had piles of it) up and down stairs. I was up at 630 and started then --- when I was done I realized that I felt great and wasn't totally exhausted as I normally would have been when I was on all that medication. The meds which kept my pulse around 35 to 40 --- no wonder I was always tired. Sorry I need to vent X-( You know what really makes me mad is that the doctors (3 of them ) put me on meds and just kept changing them without doing any tests to find out what was going on. It wasn't until I was in the hospital for my hyst surgery
that my new doctor did a catscan and found that I had fluid on the brain.
He sent me to a neurologist who did nothing but change the meds .... no testing and no interest in what was going on. After I collapsed and my body shut down New doc said that's it lets try taking you off all this and put you
on a diuretic to see if it will reduce the fluid. Last catscan mid Dec showed
it was working. I know it is working since the daily headaches I was dealing with our gone, tremors are virtually gone, my physical health has improved I finally have energy to go to the gym and do things with friends. This combined with loosing weight I feel like I am finally living my life and it's only going to get better. Sorry for the long extended vent but I feel better.

Hi, Lee:

You've really been through a lot, physically, and I'm sure the positive changes you are making are going to make a tremendous difference even from how you feel now. Don't push your body too hard until you're sure you've got the strength for it, but you are definitely on the right track!!

Keep it up!

Lee,

Sorry you have had to go through ALL that but so glad that you weren't brought serious harm by it.

that is great that a simple diuretic is helping with everything.

Keep up the good work and give those doctors a kick in the pants if they need it, lol.
