View Full Version : Challenge: Hag Athletea's Halloween Hijinks
Amarantha 08-20-06, 01:23 PM Havin' experienced a really scaaaaaaarrrrry regain due to a series o' stress binges, Hag Athletea, aka Hago the Halloween Hut, hath retired to her boilin' cauldrons 'n come up with a plan to chase away that Stress Eatin' Demon :lil: 'n to banish those extra pounds, with interest.
So, consultin' her Oracle o' the Fitday PC Software, she hath come up with a goal weight for October 29, the final Sunday before Halloween. The goal is 133 ... 10.4 pounds. The Oracle o' Fitday PC says if Hago averages 1710 cals per day she will achieve this goal. (Goal cals edited as I'd calculated it wrong).
The exercise portion of this challenge will be based on Body For Life For Women's 12-week rotation. Hago will rewrite it to encompass 10 weeks (there's 10 weeks to this challenge, according to Fitday). It will likely include LESS exercise, rather than more, but we'll see.
Hago also intends to do a series of mini challenges related to GWLBs (Good Weight Loss Behaviors). The mini challenge for the upcoming week is to not only AVERAGE 1710 cals, but not to exceed it over the next seven days ... generally, in this plan, over limit days are permitted, with only the average being important, but all the eager Halloween Haggies in the vicinity o' Hago's scary hut in the deep, dark, diet dilemmatic woods are champin' at the bit to get started so we're gonna do a seven-day streak o' the 1710 or below and report it here daily!!! Huzzah!
So that's basically the plan fer now! Be afraid, 10.4 pounds, be very afraid, 'cause yer outta here!!!! Booo!
:ghost: :bghost:
Amarantha 08-20-06, 01:35 PM Boo! :ghost: :bghost:
Ghost o' Halloweens Past here, I would like to join your challenge, but am unclear as to the rules. Does this mean I have to stop being friends with the Refined Sugar Demon? :lil:
I don't think I can do that right now. We have been through so much together.
Ghostie, the rules as to the Refined Sugar Demon are being reviewed by the Diet Hag Committee. We will let ye know. For now, he is not banned from consortin' with challenge contestants, but he's on probabtion. If he comes in here and is a good boy, he can stay awhile, but if he acts up 'n starts triggerin' binges, he's outta here! Hope that helps!
Thanks. I'm in.
Ooooh, am I the first one? I'd like to join in but need to come up with a very cunning plan.....Hard to formulate anything in my beady little head right now, because I'm having one of those very low-energy days.8-|
BTW, I too have had a few run-ins with Demon Sugar lately. If I just never start, I'm okay.
Thanks for the e-mails. I'm hanging in there by a gossamer thread.
Amarantha 08-20-06, 08:15 PM Would love to have ye join in, E, and post your challenge and progress here if ye so desire!!! :cheer:
Glad ye are hangin' ... gossamer is strong 'n that's good! :)
I've decided to just do the Body For Life Sample Rotation for 10 weeks exactly as written, but with any switcheroos or mods I need to make for myself or my schedule. The Body for Life eating isn't gonna happen right now.
So CHALLENGE REPORT: Exercise none, as it's the official rest day; cals already at 1699 and will not eat again until the start of the next eating day, which in Hago's Scaaarrrry Halloween Hut is midnight (as I've posted before, this gives me the ability to work late and still eat before any blood sugar disasters take place ... PLUS, to be honest, midnight is the start o' the new day, so that's how I do 'er)!!!
E, I believe you are right about our friend RSD (Refined Sugar Demon) ... he really has to be banished forever or he'll just keep causin' trouble in the scarrrrrryyyyy diet forest 'cause he messes with our minds ... but I am lettin' him stay in my hut (with the ghost o' Halloween challenges past :ghost: :bghost: ) right now, methinks ... at least I can't talk him into leavin' ... but today because of the start of the challenge and a read through the good Dr. Peeke's wonderful book, I was able to put him in perspective ... ok, I DID have a candy bar ... but in the last seven stressful (really stressful) days, I've had unlimited sugar whenever I wanted it, which was a LOT ... so I feel kind of controlled but not there yet.
I also grabbed a bottle of my good ol' fiber tabs and will resort to it throughout the days ahead. Now, normally, I do not advocate "diet pills" but the use of fiber tablets does help balance blood sugar and is healthy and safe for me ... and it does aid an aggressive weight loss program, which is what I am planning.
Mr. Ghostie says good-night!!! :ghost: :bghost:
Corinna 08-21-06, 12:47 AM Welcome back! You have been missed! :dn :cheer: :dn
aria2000 08-21-06, 09:35 AM Welcome back, ESAthletea! :hop: :hop: :hop:
ESA...
Love your new journal! Glad to be able to read your wonderful posts! Stress Eating is a hard habit to break. I was able to control it by smoking and now that I am smoke free I have to come up with new "tricks" to avoid eating those "treats" I hate to admit to this but I have found myself drinking more coffee to replace the food and the nicotine...DRAT..why must there always be some sort of CRUTCH????? I need a drill sargent to move in with me and get me into the habit of drinking more water..If I could just train myself to get that water down (and I don't mean 1 glass, which is what I would try to get away with)
YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!
lynn
Amarantha 08-21-06, 11:53 AM Thanks be to Corinna, Aria 'n Shy fer the welcome back 'n the visits to Hago's scaaaaaaarrrry Halloween challenge!!! Huzzah!
This be Ghost o' Halloween Past speakin' ... here's my picture: :ghost: ... Hago is actually workin' at her job (hah) but asked me to stop into the hut 'n stir the boilin' cauldron and also note that Hago 'n I did the first day o' the BFLFW rotation calendar ... a 30-minute walk (cardio of 30 minutes or more being required on Day 1). We drank some nice :water: 'n now intend to FOCUS 'cause we have a work trip to make tonight and work all day to finish and we do not intend to have a stress binge.
Shy, there is a FANTASTIC EAS AdvantEDGE cappucino line that has real coffee in a low carb protein drink ... 100 cals and ye'd swear you're at Starbucks. Just thought I'd mention it ...
Gotta go! Will visit journals later or tomorrow! Booooo!!
Amarantha 08-22-06, 10:41 AM Boo, t'is I, Hago the Hut, aka Halloween Hagathon Queen, aka Hag Athletea. Huzzah. Just a'droppin' into the scaaaarrry hut in the Big Diet Wood here to note that yesterday was one heckuva (can I say that on TV?) STRESSED OUT day, capped off by a flood when arriving home from another town where Hago worketh occasionally ... she couldst not manuever her broomstick home (roads flooded, power lines out, fire department blocking roads), try as she would 'n ended up stranded in a convenience store being overtired, anxious, shaky (from driving through a flood) and there (GASP) was confronted by the Convenience Store Food Demon :lil: 'n the Stress Eatin' Demon :lil: ... who had teamed up fer the night, apparently ... so the upshot bein' that the calorie goal for the HALLOWEEN TRANSFORMATION CHALLENGE was not met yesterday ... but cals were at a healthy 1905 and that's better than the several days of 3600 cals that hath preceded Hago's run for a Halloween transformation ... so we're cool on that front.
Exercise front: Hago performed day 2 o' the BFLFW Sample Rotation ... upper body, three sets of two exercises per body part, decreasing reps, increasing weights each set as specified in the BFLFW method ... added some extras also for a total of 30 minutes on the scaaarry diet forest moondial!!! Huzzah!
EXTRA POUND DEMONS, BE AFRAID ... BE VERY AFRAID!!! Ye are history, guys, history!!! :lil:
Corinna 08-22-06, 11:46 AM Whoot on staying under 2000 calories! Boo on the flood. Freaky, freaky!
Here's to a better today
Corinna
Amarantha 08-22-06, 01:42 PM Thanks, Corinna! :)
:ghost:
Amarantha 08-23-06, 11:11 AM Ghoulie Gal Pal Sal :bghost: here postin' fer Hago!!! I be a ghastly participant in this scaaaarrrrrrryyyyyyyy Halloween challenge, based loosely on Body For Life For Women ... my mission for the Halloween Sunday weigh-in (the Sunday before Halloween) is the same as Hago's (coincidentally) ... I have the intention of seeing the magickal number: 133 on the Golden Scale. To this end, all of our haglike thoughts are bent here in the Scary Diet Dilemmatic Forest ... reading something in the Body For Life For Women book today (by Pamela Peeke, M.D.) that once a mission statement for a transformation (or whatever) is developed, it is then easy to compare everything we do and all demands on our time with whether it fits the mission statement ... if not, one can say ... "I'm sorry, that is not right for me right now ..." or some such thing ... anyhow ... by whatever HEALTHY means necessary, we challengers will reach our goal.
Our mission statement hasn't really been written yet ... it's just sort of focused on the goal right now generally, with the steps Hago has outlined above.
Our warning to the Demons o' Excess Poundage: "Be afraid, be very afraid, and leave town as soon as ye can, 'cause ye are history!"
WE DID NOT COME THIS FAR IN OUR SCARY WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY TO TURN BACK NOW OR BE DAUNTED 'CAUSE WE HAVE HAD A BIT O' A REGAIN AND A FEW PIDDLY BINGES!
However, we didn't quite make the 1710 target again yesterday, eating 1774 instead. Deal w'it, Overlimit Overload :lil: ... ye don't scare us!!!
Exercise this a.m. was a 30-minute walk as it is a cardo day in the BFLFW sample rotation we are followin' ... it should also be noted, in case anyone wonders, that the BFLFW book doth NOT limit cardio to 30 minutes a day ... it specifies 30 minutes or more on cardio days and suggests extra cardio, as well as extra mind-body workouts as desired or as fitness levels increase ... the weight rotation is likewise not set in stone ... I am just following the rotation to obtain some consistency and I am following the weight training method more or less because it is simple and effective ... I'm also adding in some extras.
Huzzah!
Seaweed just reminded in her journal that there are 70 days until Halloween!!!
Let's go!
Wo ...
:ghost: :bghost:
Corinna 08-23-06, 11:42 AM Couldn't you just go up and down stairs for like 10 minutes to burn the extra 60 calories? Hehehe..
I think you are doing wonderfully!
Corinna
JoThrive 08-23-06, 01:02 PM Hi, Friend Athletea -
Thanks for getting me back to journaling.
A reminder - drink adequate amounts of water, that will help with everything.
And keep smiling -
Amarantha 08-23-06, 11:47 PM Thanks fer the visits, Corinna 'n JoJo!!!
 Good idea re goin' up 'n down steps, C!!! :)
Good reminder on the :water: , Friend JoJo! I will have some now ... this summer I've also used sugar free popsicles for hydration help and to cool off and will be buyin' some more tomorrow (I'm out)!
Today was a long workday but Hago did ok cal wise at 1694 'n holdin' ... it wasn't the healthiest day as the Refined Sugar Demon be still in the neighborhood, but life goes on!
Very long day ... see ye, friends, 'n stay outta dark 'n scary diet dilemmatic woods! :ghost:
aria2000 08-24-06, 09:45 AM Hi Athletea, hope your day is easier today! :lily:
Amarantha 08-25-06, 10:35 AM Huzzah, Aria! Thanks be fer the encouragin' words!!!
Amarantha 08-25-06, 10:49 AM Hago tried to get on here yesterday but storms again made her connection go haywire ... very scary!!! Today is a big workday ... hopin' to cut it short early rather than sit 'n watch folks eat in the office.
Cals yesterday 1910 ... not the target but not bad so we'll take it here in Halloween Hijinks Headquarters!!! Exercise yesterday was the BFLFW rotation day for lower bod and ab/core work and all the good ghostly ghoulies 'n Halloween Hago did 'er! Mission accomplished.
Also accomplished was our cardio day this a.m. ... a sorta half 'n half EZ walk 'n powerwalk ... 50 minutes: requirement is at least 30 so we're doin' well, fer the way we're feelin' depression-wise!
SPECIAL FRIDAY CHALLENGE: HAGO 'N HER IMAGINARY GHOUL PALS :ghost: :bghost: ... WHO ARE THE ONLY FOLKS SHE CAN GET TO "DIET" W' HER 'CAUSE HER IN-FLESH PALS DON'T WANNA ... PLEDGE THAT DURING THIS WORKDAY THEY WILL NOT EAT ANY O' THE COWORKER'S FOOD ... I COULD WRITE VOLUMES ON THIS CHALLENGE BUT I WON'T ... SHE ALSO PLEDGES THAT SHE WILL NOT MAKE DISCUSS FOOD CHOICES MADE BY OTHERS ... THAT COULD HELP! :)
This is recipe day in the Halloween Hut 'n a concoction is a boilin' in the cauldron (actually, the microwave) consistin' o' a "pancake" made o' unsweetened applesauce 'n porridge oats baked into a big round shape like scary alien's flyin' saucers .. the plan is to eat this with a low carb protein shake 'n two fish oil capsules (all separately). Hago would like to add sf syrup to this but doesn't have any.
Good to see you back and posting. It is such a hoot to read your posts!
Way to go with the exercise and all. Keep us posted!

Today was a weird day but Hago met her really scary challenge o' not eatin' any food belongin' to others ... cals at 1795!!!! Amending tomorrow's challenge to just stay in the 1700s!!! Huzzah!
Boo! :ghost:
aria2000 08-26-06, 02:02 PM Good job, Athletea! :)
Amarantha 08-26-06, 02:16 PM Huzzah 'n thanks be fer the visit, Ms. A!!!
Today be the final workout day o' the week in the BFLFW rotation (rest day tomorrow) 'n Hago hath performed 30 min upper bod work accordingly!!!
Workin' today 'n probably tomorrow so must mount broomstick 'n hie away ... CHALLENGE FER TODAY ... NO STRESS DEMON WILL BE ALLOWED TO WRECK THE AVERAGE WEEKLY CAL TOTAL, WHICH IS CURRENTLY IN THE 1700s, ALTHOUGH NOT AS LOW AS THE PLANNED 1710, BUT WE'RE HAPPY AS HOOT OWLS (thanks fer the 'hoot' word, fAGAN) WITH WHERE WE ARE.
Must note anxiety and stress are at an all-time high ... have been readin' BFLFW over and over (and looking at before-after pics) to get a handle on this as it doth not serve our mission o' reachin' 133 by October 29!!! :bghost: :ghost:
Amarantha 08-27-06, 09:44 AM 1730! Hago will be baaaaaack ... boo! :ghost:
Amarantha 08-27-06, 02:53 PM Welcome ghouls, witchipoos 'n folk that go bump in the night to the first issue o' Hago's Halloween Challenge official scooper pooper!!! The scoop this week be briefly stated in the followin' transmission intercepted from Hago's Crystal Ball to the boilin' cauldron o' Witchie Poo Imaginary Personal Trainer Wanda the Witchstill on Sunday mornin' ... Hago havin' cancelled plans to actually perform work she gets paid fer in the nonvirtual poopy world (can we say 'poop' in the newspaper?):
Rest day on BFLFW X, but took 20 min restful walk at park for stress. Weight loss 1.2, inch losses since August 13 in waist, hip, thigh and calf, gains in biceps and forearms. Stealth Challenge this week is (CENSORED, WARNING YE ARE TRYIN' TO ACCESS RESTRICTED WITCH DATA ON STEALTH CHALLENGES, WHICH ARE TOP SECRET AND LIMITED TO HALLOWEEN HAG PERSONNEL ONLY, IF YOU HAVE REACHED THIS PAGE IN ERROR, JUST BACK OUT NOW 'N NO ONE WILL HAVE TO BE BANISHED TO THE UNDERWORLD. YOUR COOPERATION IS APPRECIATED. HAVE A WITCHY DAY). Official challenge for the coming week is to again get the average in the 1700s and try to hit the 1710 target and NO days more than 2000, with a DESIRE AND HOPE to have no day higher than the 1700s.
The cooperation o' the Scale Demon :lil: is greatly appreciated this Sunday by all haglike folkettes as fer a sec it looked like those magickal flashin' numbers were gonna settle higher, but thankfully they righted themselves into an official number fer the week that will not send the hags shriekin' into the night 'n the CHALLENGE GOES ON.
aria2000 08-27-06, 04:49 PM Hi Athletea, glad to hear that the magical numbers righted themselves!
Good job!
Amarantha 08-27-06, 06:27 PM Thanks, Ms. A!
Hootin' 'n Hollerin' 'cause Hago's Halloween Hijinks is SCARILY SUCCESSFUL (so far)!
Hi Pal: Glad you are doing well..Are the storms over?
Take care :)
Lulu
JoThrive 08-27-06, 10:21 PM Hi, Athletea -
Onward and downward we go !!!
Keep smilng -
Amarantha 08-28-06, 10:22 AM Huzzah, thanks be fer the visits o' Ms. Lulu 'n Ms. JoJo!!!! :ghost: :bghost:
Yea, Lulu, no storms yesteday here ... unless ye count a work disaster that I will take care o' today ... which did NOT send me into the arms o' the Binge Demon :lil:
Cals yesterday were 1774. Stealth challenge successful 'n will be repeated today ... what it is, Hago be not at liberty ta say (it bein' top secret diet witchie stuff, but healthy, just a the Side Challenge That Shall Not be Named ... been readin' too much Harry Potter)!!!!!
Today be busy on the work front fer the nonvirtual side o' Hago, so shall go do lower bod weights, which is on the BFLFW schedule today. Huzzah!
Jumpsoda 08-28-06, 06:02 PM Congrats on the inches lost!!!!
Amarantha 08-28-06, 07:34 PM Thanks, Jump!
Today turned out to not be a good kind of eatin' day so there'll be no cal report at Hago's tonight. Callin' it a metabolism buildin' exercise!!!
Amarantha 08-28-06, 10:49 PM Exercise was just some squats ... can't get it done today, giving up and going back to couch!
Life goes on.
JoThrive 08-28-06, 10:52 PM Hi, friend. We all have days like that. So we just keep on keeping on.
Amarantha 08-29-06, 09:46 AM Thanks, Friend JoJo!!! Ye are right, we just trek on through the storms o' night 'n dark 'n scary Halloween forests o' life 'n bodybuildin' programs, though beset by Refined Sugar Demons :lil:, Depression Eating Demons :lil: 'n some ghoulies 'n ghosties o' Halloweens Past :ghost: :bghost: !!!
Hago has decided to ignore yesterday 'n move on. In Jump's journal we read a phrase ... consistency is the key ... you bet ... and though we know there are things that go bump in the night, we trek on ... 'cause the alternative is too scary to comtemplate ... in the case o' a diet/fitness journey, the alternative is to regain all one's weight and/or lose strength and energy and healthy habits (though, our habits can never be perfect, but they can always be better and they can always be consistent ... somewhat).
So movin' on to a walk in the neighborhood as soon as it gets light.
Amarantha 08-29-06, 11:35 AM A Hago Mini Hike took place this a.m. in the Chilly, Scary Dark Halloween Forest (actually, the weather is sunny, dry and probably will reach triple digits soon, but work w' me here ...).
In the spirit o' following BFLFW as much as possible, Hago 'n her Ghoul Pals :ghost: did 20 minutes o' circuit training during the 75-minute trek, pausing here 'n there to do sets o' lower bod/core exercises using bodyweight resistance only. This kind of added 20 minutes o' lower bod resistance work to the 10 minutes or so o' squats (5 minutes or 10, no longer sure) done yesterday, which was the official BFLFW lower body/core day, so now we have our cardio for today and our make-up o' the lower bod resistance (bodyweight counts as far as we're concerned ... ya can get a lot of result from this if done correctly ... this is kind of in opposition to what it says in BFLFW, but we know a thang 'r two ourselves re bodybuildin' 'n fitness, so there we are ...)
Gotta go!
Amarantha 08-30-06, 10:45 AM It's scaaaarrrry here 'n Hago hath no time so shall just note that cals were 1792 yesterday 'n upper body workout has been done this a.m. ... boo :ghost:
GO ESA GO...
:lift: :ex: :lift:
lynn:D
Jumpsoda 08-30-06, 08:34 PM Yeah, I modify BFL stuff too. The main thing I got from it was really to hit the weights, keep my workouts under 60 minutes and not just go for the aerobics.
Your doing great!!!
Amarantha 08-30-06, 09:29 PM Thanks, Shy 'n Jump!!!
Yes, Jump, that's a main thing with it for me, too ... to get a handle on consistency with the weights. I've always been consistent with them but I sometimes get mired down in only wanting to go for aerobics so the BFLFW rotation irons that out for me a bit ... as I instinctively have always known that I need both ... plus the mind/body stuff ... but sometimes I have this urge to go overboard or to go underboard ... when a smooth rotation and consistency (as you said in your journal) is where I need to be to feel really well mentally and physically.
Although this is a weight loss challenge, as ye know, it is about lots more than that ... I just don't feel well when the exercise is out of synch ... I am never going to get it perfect ... but I'm gonna be one heck of a fit little ol' lady someday (some days I am older than others) ... and hope to be liftin' 'n powerwalkin' until the day I depart this sphere o' travail 'n sturm 'n drang ...
Anyhow, today did upper bod, 35 minutes, still keeping weights kind of lightish ... which I intend to do for awhile as I am getting good results from them right now and seeing a bit o' definition return with the two weeks of consistency and good form, yet less exhaustion. I will increase weights only when I am sure I want to.
A trainer I previously had was diametrically opposed to the trainer I had previous to that who had me lifting very heavy (which was kind of good) ... now the odd thing was that the second trainer (the last one I could afford, who left me in July 'cause basically I can train myself and can't afford her) believed in much lighter poundages but better form and pooh-poohed the idea that lower poundages didn't anything and that it was all about control and perfect technique and I get really awesome results with this ... so I kind of cycle between low and high poundages these days but what I mainly have learned over the years is that it's all about what works for ME, not what someone else believes is right in exercise technique, although, I always want to hear what the experts (and nonexperts) have to say 'bout it.
So I keep on reading and experimenting and listening and it's all good. :)
Would like to keep cals at 1693 (where they are now) but may need a carb control shake later ... we'll see.
No sugar today, second day in a row ... very hard to concentrate on work and I gave up ...
JoThrive 08-30-06, 09:34 PM Hi, Athletea -
That's interesting what you wrote about the lighter vs. heavier weights. I'll have to mull that one over a bit. As we move on into the winter months I will probably need to concentrate more on the home exercises including weights. I did enroll in a yoga class for seniors this morning, so you can be very proud of me. We keep trying, don't we.
You are looking mighty good here, with your new determination. Remember, consistency!!
Keep smiling -
Amarantha 08-31-06, 11:16 AM Thanks fer the encouragin' words , Ms. JoJo!!!! I do think you will get good results with lighter weights if ye care to go that route ... another option for some resistance days is to get a'hold of some resistance tubing. Danskin now makes a nice kit that is available at Wally World ... I use the tubing sometimes just to change things up.
Huzzah, all! Hago must really work in the nonvirtual world today, though at home, so shall just report that it was cardio day 'n all the ghosties 'n ghoulies turned out fer 10 minutes o' yoga, 15 recumbent bike 'n 15 walkabout ... 40 exercise minutes, 30 of them the required cardio.
No sugar today!
Cals yesterday did not hold but ended with 1783 as had 6 sf popsicles (it's hot here)!
Amarantha 08-31-06, 11:44 PM Endin' eatin' day in the 1600s ... boo! :ghost: :bghost:
Amarantha 09-03-06, 02:29 PM Boo!!! Followin' a week o' not-so-good food 'n cal choices, Hago hath nevertheless chased .40 o' an Excess Poundage Demon :lil: outta here! We soldier on ...
Today is a rest day on the bflfw x rotation but went for a stress-reducin' mini ez hike in state park ... must work, work, work today ... early deadlines.
Jumpsoda 09-03-06, 04:14 PM I suck with food choices too some of the time. Just keep on keeping on, two steps forwards one step back, you will get there.:)
Seaweed 09-03-06, 05:58 PM You are doing great, Athletea!! :cheer:
Hope you and Old Dog are enjoying a healthy, yet restful weekend!
Amarantha 09-03-06, 06:02 PM Thanks, Jump 'n Seaweed!!!
Workin' today but then will have two days off ... best get back to it, I guess!
Was just readin' a story in Muscle & Fitness mag about "shock" tactics in building a physique that'll shake everybody up (my words ... it didn't say that, exactly) ... had some thoughts about this ... but must do the writing I get paid for right now ... see ye!
Jumpsoda 09-04-06, 03:43 PM Looooong time ago was reading Arnold's Encyclopedia of Bodybuilding and he talked about how he would blast a certain muscle group. It was interesting.
Amarantha 09-04-06, 04:21 PM The first trainer I had was always wanting to take everything to failure, since, she thought, we were there and had the room!
Thanks for stoppin' by, Jump!
JoThrive 09-04-06, 06:08 PM Hi, fellow Hag:
I am so glad you are continuing your body-building activities. I know it is not always easy to stay active, but I believe it must be done. One of my doctors told me to keep pushing myself. Another told me to stay moving as much as I can. So I keep trying, I keep trying.
And of course I keep smiling -
Long time, no see--my friend! I've missed you!:)
I was thinking about you this morning as I was looking thru my new cookbook [as if I need another to add to the hundreds I already have 8-| ]; it's 'Eating For Life' by Bill Phillips, the BFL guy. It's really very good. Lots of easy recipes and it's just generally inspiring to look thru. Have you seen it?
You're doing beautifully. As usual, you're an inspiration!
Amarantha 09-04-06, 09:04 PM JoJo 'n E!!!! So nice ta see ye both ... 'n I've missed thee also, Eydie and was just a'thinkin' o' trackin' ye down someplace!!!
I have "Eating for Life" ... and yes, love the recipes and as with all BFL stuff, love the inspiration and motivation ... love looking at the before 'n after shots 'n thinkin' ... yep, it's better to be fit!!!
I just bought myself "Ultrametabolism" ... a popular "diet" book by somebody (sorry, too lazy to go look at the book and can't remember the author) ... will enjoy reading it ... I am goin' full throttle this week on the "project!"
See ye!!! Endin' eatin' day at 1770 ... and if anyone wonders why I can be so sure I won't snack tonight, it's just kind of that I'm very fortified with motivation this week ... eatin' choices weren't the best today, but am sure I can bring it in cal wise.
Tomorrow is upper body day.
We are clearly cosmically connected. I was reading my copy of 'Ultra Metabolism' last night too. I like it, but why do all those ultra-healthy programs forbid coffee????X-( Sorry, just not willing to give it up!
I made the cheesecake recipe from Eating For Life yesterday. Yum!!!!:D I goosed up the protein even more by adding some vanilla whey protein.:)
egyptrose 09-05-06, 08:37 AM hi athletea.....missed you a lot:hug: ,and so happy to be back again....i promise i ll be visiting here so often as i need the motivation i used to get from you a lot.
ve a great day.
Amarantha 09-05-06, 09:00 PM Huzzah to the :rose: o' Egypt (missed ye, too, you're doin' great) and to mine cosmic twin, E!!!
E, I love "Ultrametabolism" ... but no ... I won't give up coffee either, though, I'm not a big drinker o' that witchey (but good) brew! :)
Guess what, from reading Ultra, I have come to the conclusion, once again, that it all boils down to refined sugar and white flour ... they must be banished ... soon ... workin' on it but not there yet!
Anyhoo, I banished 'em all fer an afternoon and have been drinkin' sugar free protein shakes at approximately 2-3 hour intervals since noon ... breakie and snack was the usual stuff involving carbs.
The cheesecake sounds good ... have ye looked at the dessert section in Ultra? I am very intrigued with the low glycemic recipes ... 'specially the macademia nut muffins with no sugar or flour ... will have to have a go at those soon.
X was 40 minutes weights ... upper bod ... very pleasant workout and it helped some depression I am experiencin' ... cals when I have the last shake: 1770!
Sis BOOm bah! Rah! :ghost:
Amarantha 09-06-06, 02:54 PM Back from the state park where all was lovely 'n quiet (if hot) today 'n Hago the Hut did a 60-minute walkabout amidst the cacti 'n lizards!!! She was accompanied by Iva the Imaginary Personal Trainer :ghost: , a ghoul pal (get it: gal pal?) who urged her to stay off the high trails so we could walk fast 'n not be heedful o' the terrain, so that's what we did.
Yesterday's cals held at 1770! Goin' for the 1600s today but the 1700s will be fine, too. Workin' tonight ... job remains stressful but the focus this week is on an AGGRESSIVE bodybuildin' 'n weight loss agenda, so refusin' to give in to the :lil: Overlord (Overload bars, previously our 390-cal stress cure, replaced this week by caramel peanut butter cups ... a package of which is 190 cals ... soon we will not even need that, but compared to the Overlord, this is progress ... soon, we in the Hago Halloweenie Hijinks Challenge universe will once again be white flour 'n refined sugar free ... but not right this sec).
Anyhow, digressin' ... was a'jawin' 'bout the mini hike/walkabout ... very pleasant interlude ... no gunshots out there, just peace, sun 'n the aforementioned cactus ... many years ago when I first moved to this area, my younger bro, now deceased, told me I had to quit sayin' cacti ... so ... hmmm, really digressin' now ... low blood sugar despite the Reese's ... gotta go rest up for work gig tonight.
I tried the brownie recipe in UltraMetabolism. I think they were billed as 'the best brownies ever' and that's up for debate. I mean, they were quite good, but.....

 I saw those in there but had my doubts also :D ... thanks for the info, E!!!
I'm sort of intriqued by the Brazil nut bars but don't want to use honey ... too sugary for me in my state of trying to back off sugar ... and I can't think of anything else that would hold the bars together properly ...
Amarantha 09-07-06, 09:29 AM Hiya, A!!!!! Great minds think alike ... was just gonna visit yer journal ... then I'll go back to bed as I didn't get enough sleep! :)
