I was part of this site a couple years ago to lose weight. Well that was in the start of my senior year of highschool. I'm in college now, started in my second year two weeks ago. I'm very unhappy with the person that I've let myself become. I gained 50 pounds those last 2 years. I weighed myself today which I hadn't done for months and I'm at my all-time high of 331 pounds. I'm utterly disgusted with myself.

So I have a plan! I want to do this the healthy way. I realize that it will take time. But that's all I really have. By my 21st birthday, in about 20 months, I hope to be at my goal weight, 160 pounds. That's a 171 pound loss, which is almost half of my weight today. For now, I'm taking baby steps. My first goal is to lose 16 pounds in the next 6 weeks by halloween.

The food here at college is NOT healthy by any means. Aside from salad, theres a limited variety of food I can eat, and I can probably count them all on my hands. There is an upside to dieting here at college: I've grown disgusted by fried foods (which is most of what's served), that's not where my problem lies, it's in the junk food (chips/candy/chocolate) category. I know I can control myself, some days will be a breeze, and others won't be. I want my journal to be a way to express my feelings about my diet, problems and successes I'm having.

I use this free site called fitday.com to track the food I take in and the exercise I do daily. I started a diet last year some time, and I really want to stick to this one. I went to the gym on campus yesterday and today. I've procrastinated in the past because it's about a 15 min walk to get there, but now I just look at it as extra exercise.

I plan on going to the student health center on campus tomorrow before or after my class to make an appointment to see a nutritionist about my weight and my plans to diet. I've never done that before, but I figure if I'm required to pay all these health fees I might as well use my resources :D

Oh by the way, if anyone who reads this is also a college student, I'd love to hear all about how you try to diet and stay healthy, because I have so much schoolwork that I become so unmotivated.

Hi, Carla:

I see you have started a new journal, and I just popped in for a visit.

I'm not a fellow college student, but I do wish you great success both in your college studies and also in your determination to get control of your weight. It isn't an easy thing to do, but it can be done.

Seeing a nutritionist is a great first step. Stock up on good foods that you can keep in your room. Walk a lot. Drink lots of water. And remind yourself that you are in this for life. No quick fixes, they don't work. But as you feed your body healthy foods and exercise it, your are making yourself a healthier person.

Keep that positive attitude, it makes life easier.

Thanks Jo, I was just talking with a friend last night about schoolwork and dieting. Because it's not like you want to be put in the situation to prioritize your health over paying $35k to go to school. But you don't want to make the excuse that you don't have time to be taking care of yourself.

We do have a mini fridge that I keep stocked with water, skim milk, and various fruits/veggies for the week. There isn't any way to get eggs in the morning for breakfast here (there are no stoves in my dorms, just microwaves) so cooking for myself is not an option. So I looked up healthy cereals and I'm going to eat a cup of cheerios (the serving size on the box) every day for breakfast to kick start my day. I never ate breakfast, so that was something I wanted to change too.

there are a million really good cereals, cherrios is a great start, if you want variety, try any of the lower sugar cereals, kix, chexs, frosted mini wheats, fiber one, are just a few to name. If you start to look at the servings and eat servings you should do fine. Tracking your stuff on fitday is a wonderful thing also. I am a college student but not a traditional one. And college food wise really wasnt where my problem has been so I cant help you there. There are many people here to reach out to and are willing to help, and you are starting with the small steps that can become larger steps in the end.

My school only offers a certain amount of cereals, we don't have a huge variety, so switching it up will probably mean between 1-3 different cereals. It's a good idea though because I won't get burned out as quickly. Each week rotate different boxes. I'm probably going to be eating a lot of the same foods every day since we don't have a lot to choose from. So I need to figure out a way to stay strong when I'm sick of everything. I think if I can just last until vacations when I get to go home, it will give me a couple weeks to eat some different types of foods and then be ready to go back to eating just the few healthy things the school has to offer.

I really need to throw away all the junk that's in my room. I think I may keep the goldfish and pretzels to have a serving once a week or something different to snack on that isn't too healthy. But I need to throw out the chocolate! I hate seeing things go to waste, but I don't need to think like that, I need to think that it's only $1 down the drain, big deal.

Carla: I'm 21 years old, and I was away at college for 3 years, and now I'm back in my hometown for a year before I go away again (to either Cali or NYC) I lost over 40 pounds in the three years of college that I was away. Talk about a slow process!

There's some major points to look at when you want to loose weight (according to myself, hehe): 1. Get plenty of sleep, 2. Limit the alcohol intake, 3. Exercise daily, whether it's a walk, a swim, something! Just move your body!!, 4. Drink water- when you feel a little hungry, take a big gulp of water, then see if you're still hungry, 5. Don't kill yourself -- if you are craving something, have a small bite or else you'll binge later, 6. Portion control (limit how much your taking in), 7. Must realize that this is a lifestyle change...

It sounds like so much- but you slowly work on each area, and you will begin to notice some differences.

The food offered at college is horrible -- can you get to the grocery store and buy your own food?

hi Crla - good attitude!
Im 20, and also studying. I know what you mean about the food aimed at us, and everything to being sat-on-your-arse orientated.
Is there anyway you could do your own food shopping? and keep things in your room?
I like FSUgirls ideas too!
good like with the wieght loss, and your studies, Dais x

Hi Carla, I'm a college student too and I definitely agree with Daisy and FSUgirl. I don't live on campus so I'm not forced to eat school food, the one thing I struggle with is finding time to fit in a workout when I have tons of homeowork to do. So I try to bring some reading or notes to study with me to the gym so that I can accomplish two things at once: get a good workout and also finish some of my work. Good luck!

Thanks for the comments, FSUgirl, daisy, and disneygirl. I can't get to a grocery store off campus, but we do have a couple convenience stores on campus. That's where I go to buy my veggies, fruits, milk, cereal, etc. But their selections aren't that great. That's why I do have a little variety, but not a whole heck of a lot. I couldn't cook any food here anyway unless it was microwavable. They do have a few SmartOnes microwavable dinners, one of which I had last night for dinner. So I may grab one occasionally if I'm not in the mood for much else.

Hiya Carla!

When I was in college, the cafe there was soo horrible!

So when I had some extra money, I'd take a walk to the convenience store or somewhere like Subway for food... at the time I think I lived on SlimFast Meal Bars, Subs, and occassionally Salads at the cafeteria. It sucks not being able to go to the grocery store and pick up what YOU want to eat... so I know the feeling!

College is a stressful time to go on a diet, with school work, pressure from friends going to parties, and just being so goshdarn tired!

You said you were going to take baby steps and I think that's such a great idea! It's better to do that than to put everything on your shoulders at once.

Also good job with going to the gym! My school's gym was probably 15min away and that sometimes put me off... but like you said, it's just extra exercise!

Good luck w/ your dieting goals and I'll chat ya later!

Hey Blueroses thanks for stopping by! I can really do this if I put my mind to it. No more being lazy and sleeping in. I can get plenty of sleep, I just have to know when to tell myself to go to bed instead of staying up that extra hour or two. I think exercising before my classes start will really help me. I like to get it done and over with so I don't have to think about it the rest of the day. Or "get too busy" to go to the gym. Because if I have enough time to come on here and post updates, then I have enough time to go to the gym!

So, for today's update: I set my alarm for 9:30am. You're all thinking, wow that's late! My only class today was at noon, so I got up at 9:30, changed, and walked to the gym. When I got there, I went on the stationary bike first. I used it yesterday too, but not any of the programs that were on it. So I chose the crosstrainer program for 20 minutes. And after 5 minutes I wanted to die!! I only did 10 minutes at my own pace yesterday, so when I was about to reach the 10 minute mark on the crosstraining program today, I was telling myself to get off and go to another machine. I decided against it, I told myself to keep with it, it'll be over in 10 minutes, I was half done! Long story short is I made it the whole program, all 20 minutes! I didn't give up on myself, and sure my legs and butt hurt a bit, but I was glad that I didn't quit.

After the bike, since my legs were kinda sore, I decided to walk on the treadmill for 10 minutes. I ended up doing 3.5 miles on the bike and .5 mile on the treadmill for a total of 4 miles today, which I thought was pretty good. After the treadmill I got off and stretched for 5 minutes because I didn't want my legs to kill me!

I've never counted walking to and from classes as part of daily exercise, so I'm not sure if I should count them. Because I walk at least a mile each day for classes. I'll think about it. So far I've had 48 oz of water to drink today :water:

And I weighed myself this morning at the gym, the scale said I lost 2 pounds from yesterday. I'm pretty sure that's just the water weight though, but it still felt good to see the pounds gone! I did have to pee about 30 times yesterday. My roommate was scared lol. I told her it was from all the water I was drinking! Mmmm I love water, it's all I drink, that and some milk.

Ooh I forgot to mention that I went to get my appointment for the nutritionist today and the earliest I could go was next Tuesday. So that's a week away, and I hope they give me some good advice or something, I'm excited about losing weight this time, even though I know it will take a very long time.

I love water! It's all I used to drink at home because my parents stopped buying soda when my sister and I went into highschool. So that's what I've been accustomed to. The biggest hump that I have is like I said, getting out of bed and getting my butt to that gym. I'm going to start calling it my 10-minute motivator hehe. Since after the first 10 minutes, I'm already on my way down there. Once I jump that hurdle every day I'm golden. So that's a goal in itself.

Wow!
You're really doing well. I'm never that motivated to begin, well, anything! and I completely empathise with you on the morning thing! I love to lie in! But if that routine works for you I advise you to stick. I hope your alturnating the machines you use though - otherwise you may find one area tones quicker then the rest.

2lbs is 2 lbs, be it water or not! so well done on that too.
oh! and thumbs up to your drinking too (water that is ;D)

congrats! Keep kicking.

Hey Daisy, nice to see you again! When I always go to diet again I'm always motivated. I don't know why, I guess it's because when I diet, I lose the weight, but it takes a long time to keep up with things, and then life gets in the way... We all know how this goes. So I know I can lose the weight, because I've lost 60 pounds before, and it motivates me, I'm always telling myself, "okay Carla, this time we're gonna lose all of it!" lol, and then something happens, like I get sick, and fall out of the routine, or something. There's always that "excuse". So no more excuses for me!

I woke up this morning at 7:30 and got my butt out of bed and went to the gym. I did 20 minutes on the elliptical machine, and 10 on the treadmill. I think I'm going to alternate the bike and elliptical as my main workout every day, and I walk a lot to classes so the treadmill is boring, we'll just keep that as my cool down exercise! I stretched before and after my workout for 5 minutes and weighed in this morning. Another 2 pounds gone - down to 327. I'm going to set mini goals for myself every month or so - for all the holidays up till summer, but by the new year I want to be under 300 pounds. I feel that it's doable, it gives me a little stretch room if I get a heavy workload one week or whatever.

I had my cup of cheerios for breakfast, with 1/2 cup skim milk, and a banana. That comes out to about 250 calories. I've already had 24-36oz of water this morning, so I'm proud of that. Not sure what I'm going to do for lunch today, I'm going to be eating on the academic side of campus, so I'll find something there. I have classes until 5pm tonight, and I'm going to be busy doing homework most of the night it seems. Hopefully I can get it done by 9 or so.

Hi, Carla:

It's good to see you so motivated. That's what it takes to lose that weight.

Just keep on taking it a day at a time.

And keep smiling -

For lunch I ate a grilled chicken breast, without the bread, half a caesar salad, and an apple. I downed 20oz of water at lunch too. Then I had a long class so when we took a break I went to the vending machines to see if there was anything healthy. So I bought sunflower seed kernels because those were the only healthy looking item, but man did that little pouch have sooo many calories and fat, yuck! Bad fat. I ate about 1/4 of it which came out to about 85 calories. I wanted to keep my metabolism going, I should have packed some veggies. That's a note for next week, pack veggies for afternoon snack :D

Carla393
09-19-06, 10:54 PM
Dinner went well. I didn't want to have tuna tonight because the school uses regular or heavy mayo in it instead or light (i dont get it on the bread), and i didn't want to go too high on fat today, so I got turkey instead with mustard. I had a side salad and yogurt. I also drank a bottle of milk because I didn't have any at lunch, and I want to keep that calcium high. After dinner I was pretty satisfied with my tummy. Got to just under 1400 calories today. Another 24oz of water was downed too. Still using the ladies room very frequently though. And i'm getting pretty tired by day's end.

I'm going to be a tough trooper. My boyfriend supports me 150%, which is great to have a support system. Although I've never admitted to him how much I weigh, it's just "a lot" I tell him. But I can share it all here on DT, so those 2 things I hope will give me crutches when I need them the most.

Carla393
09-20-06, 10:21 AM
This morning was good. I almost didn't want to get out of bed when my alarm went off at 7:30 lol. But I got out before I could debate myself.

Thanks for stopping by yesterday Jo! I am motivated, and ready to give all this extra fat a run for its money hehe. And it's so true that you need to take it one day at a time. I couldn't imagine how I'd be feeling if I were trying to look at the big picture. I'm not discouraged yet, and I don't want to be at any time. I'm always motivated from everyone's journals here, this really is a great community :o

At the gym this morning I stretched before I worked out and rode the bike for 20 minutes. I was doing this new program, an uphill/downhill one, but I wasn't very satisfied with it, it wasn't as hard as I would have liked it to have been. So I think I'm going to stick with my cross country or cross trainer whatever it was called from now on. That was a good workout. I decided to do the elliptical for 10 minutes today, and worked up quite a lot of sweat, so I left satisfied from the gym, and stretched after the workoud.

Then I weighed myself. I lost 1 pound, down 5 total since Sunday. Once I hit the first week, I think I may start a forum in the weekly weigh-ins. So now I'm at 326 lbs. Maybe I can hit 319 by sunday. That would be a total of 12 pounds lost this week, I don't know if that's too much. I might have to set my mini goals a little higher hehe. I may have misjudged myself. As long as this week is a loss at all, it's good in my book.

I had my cup of cereal, 1/2 cup skim milk, and banana for breakfast again. And I've had maybe only 24oz of water, but it's only 9:30 hehe. I have to work tomorrow, and I'm not sure if I want to go to the gym in the morning or not. I get all hot and sweaty and gross at the gym so I shower in the morning afterwards, but I get the same way at work because it's hot serving at the grill. I used to shower after work. So maybe I'll just have to take 2 showers lol.

Carla: Supportive boyfriends = AMAZING. Even though my boyfriend and I are in a long distance relationship as of right now (because I moved home and he stayed up at college and it's a 4-hr drive)... he still urges me on. When we were together, we would eat healthy meals and go to the gym together... but now he leaves me text messages that say "Hope your work out is a good one. Sweat hard!" and things like that just really help. Even though he'll always say "You look great the way you are.." it really makes me smile when he says "Wow- you really have been working out hard!" after I haven't seen him for a while. Boyfriends can make or break your routine and it's soo great yours is on good side of things. ACTUALLY- my boyfriend is coming down the weekend of our 1½ year anniversary (I would rather just celebrate a 2year or something, but he thinks 1½ is just amazing) Hehehe.. so that's my inspiration for today.. look good for October 8th. :D

Yeah I'm in a long-distance relationship too :( It's tough some days, especially around TOM when I get emotional. Our 1 year anniversary is coming up mid October, but I don't know if I'll even be able to see him, because we're both broke right now. But he's great, he makes me soo happy, and he liked me even as I'm fat!

I had my classes today 10-11:50 and 12-1:50. I got out of my 10am class a little early so I had an apple as a snack to hold me over until lunch. Keeping my metabolism going. My 10am class is this CPR and First Aid class that I'm taking. I don't get credit for it, but you're required to take 2 wellness courses to graduate. And man, saving dummies is a workout in itself, LOL! It was kind of nice getting an additional workout. It's cold today, and very windy, and just started raining a little while ago, I got in before it rained.

Lunch was okay. I had a turkey club wrap, which is some turkey, lettuce, bacon, and little ranch dressing wrapped in a flat bread, kinda like pita. I also had some milk and green beans and I'm working on some more water.

Now I'm not sure what I'm going to do, maybe go read some journals

I was craving some chocolate and a rice krispie treat and some cake! It's too early to cheat. I need to make the habit before I break it, lol. I went to the bathroom and came back then started munching on green beans, and I feel better now. I think my tummy was getting a little hungry, been about 2 hours since I last ate. So it was probably that. No caving in for this girl. I need to figure out what to do for dinner. I'm thinking tuna.

remember there are loads of sweet things that are healthy too! I just made some rum and cinamon bannanas for my mummy as a treat. I had a little try - they were delish!
I also love fruit with natural yoghurt and honey - thats great for sweet cravings, so you dont go for chocolate later!
but by the sounds of things your doing great as you are!

Thanks Daisy for stopping by :) Dinner went well. A place on campus here was serving baked haddock for an italian entree for dinner. It came with pasta of your choice, but I decided not to have any of the pasta. The haddock looked, and tasted real good, it had a little marinara sauce on it and melted mozzarella on it with peppers baking inbetween. It was delish, and quite healthy. I also had a side salad with it. Not a very heavy dinner, but it filled me up and I was satisfied.

I was catching up with my best friend tonight, and I told her how I started dieting again. She has weight issues too. So I seemed to have motivated her to want to be in a "healthy competition" with me as she put it. We're going to have our own little weekly weigh in's and try to keep eachother on track. I'm glad she wants to get healthy with me. She said she was proud of me, and jealous! Well if she sticks with me, I'll be jealous of her!

I wasn't feeling so hot last night, I had a sore throat which always starts a cold for me. I set my alarm for the gym anyway. But I'm not doing any better today so I decided not to go to the gym. I've worked out every day so far so I can use this as a rest day. I'd rather get better in one day than feel miserable for 3 or 4. I called in sick for work, which I never do either :( I've only done it once ever before. Hopefully I'll feel better to go to the gym tomorrow and then go to work all day, but I won't kill myself over it. I'm going to try to eat as healthy as I can. Going to check out some of the diet microwavable dinners with soft food like pasta to eat today, I don't want to exceed my limits, we'll see what I find at the store.

Went to the corner store downstairs and I bought lots of goodies. I wanted some ginger ale but they had no diet version, so I got diet sierra mist, the closest to it I think. I got an orange and fat free/sugar free instant chocolate pudding for snacks, and a healthy choise chicken noodle soup bowl which I will have for lunch. I got some herbal tea bags for later today after the sierra mist is gone, and some healthy turkey breast slices for lunch if i'm still hungry after the soup. It seems like a lot of food, I'll see how I do with it. Haven't figured out what I want to do for dinner yet though, I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

I thought that I would drop by to say hi. You are very serious about this! Good. I like how you are varying your workouts between different activities. If I had any advice in this area, it would be to find one or more activities that you really like to do. Something that is actually fun for you.

I can't make myself do boring things, or things that I don't like to do for very long (weeks? months if I'm lucky?). Fun activities have a way of being easy to do, and all of my other training supports those fun activities. My main activities right now are road bicycling and hiking. I do both as often as I can, and all of my gym time is planned to make me better at them. It is just easier to lift weights when I know that the exercises that I'm doing are going to make riding or hiking faster or easier.

I also like your food plan. It sounds a little like mine. I eat in the same calorie range, and the same proportions of vegetables, meats, etc. every day, but let my body tell me what it wants to eat within those bounds. It keeps things from getting too boring, or restrictive. That makes a big difference to me too. That, and keeping my blood sugar from doing spikes and dips by trying to spread my calories evenly throughout the day (no more than 5 waking hours without a snack).

Hope to see you around! Take care.

Sorry your not feeling well, but WAY TO GO! It's not easy to stick to something when you're feeling that way. Especially when you're sitting around bored. That's when I tend to munch away.

My mom went on a no cholesterol diet a few years ago and she said that her lifesaver during a chocolate craving was Yoplait light yogurts. They've got yummy choices like White Chocolate Strawberry and Boston Creme Pie. And when you've had a good day they have the Chocolate Whips now which are pretty good.

Good luck, feel better!:)

Thank you for wishing me well Dyanna and Jo

I'm feeling better than this morning, that's always good. I had the chicken noodle soup for lunch, of which I ate almost all of the veggies... I NEVER eat cooked veggies (aside from corn and potatoes) they just dont taste good to me, so I was proud, I was trying to eat healthy. And I had the orange. Then I just had 1/2c of the fat/sugar free instant chocolate pudding. It was not good, LOL. So I don't think I'll be eating the rest of it, or buying any more. Oh well. I'm only up to less than 500 calories for the day, and I'll probably have some string beans later for a snack (which aren't many calories) and then all that's left is dinner. So I need to figure out what to eat for dinner that has a good amount of calories, but still healthy.

I think I'll go take a little nap now, I'll be back later.

Carla393
09-21-06, 09:37 PM
Well, I took my nap for a couple hours and ate some green beans. Was up about an hour and decided to go back to bed. Got up around 7 thinking I need to eat dinner and clean up the pudding I didn't like. So I decided on a lean cuisine meal, went to heat it in the community microwave, and my stomach was really not settling right. So I went into the girls bathroom just incase and vomited a little (sorry if it's tmi). I think the smell and taste of the pudding brought back bad memories from diet chocolate shakes a few years back. So I wasn't in the mood to eat the lean cuisine meal, I just had yogurt instead. *Sigh* I don't know what to do. I felt a little better until then. Now who knows. I really hate being sick. Grr! Tomorrow I should go back to my normal routine, my body always takes to that pretty well, and it doesn't like me eating sick foods for very long. We'll see how it goes.

It took a little while to get to bed last night, but once I was asleep I was out for the night. I woke up a little before my alarm was set to go off at 7:30 and had a cough drop to soothe my throat a little. I changed and headed for the gym, with the notion that if my body didn't want to work as hard today I wouldn't push it. I did about 15 mins on the elliptical and decided to go on something else so I went on the bike after for 10 mins. Then I stretched for a few minutes and weighed myself - 322. I lost 4 pounds in the last 2 days. 9 in total since Sunday, wow. I wonder if I'll lose 4 more by my weekly weigh in day on sun.

Hope you feel better Carla! Grr.. I HATE HATE being sick. And when I get sick... I get REALLY sick! Eat foods that will settle in your tummy, like starches. Congrats on the total of 9 pounds lost though! That is just amazing. You go girl~

Thanks for stopping by! I do enjoy visitors. I'm feeling better, my throat is kinda scratchy but I went to the gym and to work anyway. On my lunch break I had a tuna sandwich on wheat and some skim milk. Not sure what I'm going to do now, probably read a few journals :)

Hey carla! don't push your self to eat when you are sick. just eat what you need to and stop if it makes you sick. my mom's a nurse and that is what she always taught me. a lot of time when you are sick your body is trying to get rid of toxins so by putting food in will probably upset it more.

i'm glad you are feeling better though and eating normally again.

I'm gonna subscribe so i can keep checking up on you! see you later!

I was feeling better than yesterday, but working on my feet all day wasn't nice, my body was mad at me, and now I feel worse than I was yesterday, lol. I was getting really nauseated at work too, because I serve fried foods, etc. at a grill. Hopefully a good night's sleep will help remedy the sickness. I don't have any work or classes on sat and sun so I'm planning on taking it easy and resolving this sick thing. Enough of it! Weigh in day is on sunday and I don't want getting sick to get in the way of getting me off track my very first week :(

I haven't eaten since lunch, which was around 2pm. I'm not hungry at all but I'm trying to push the water as much as I can. The cable is out on our floor here at school so I can't lay in bed and watch tv. I could pop in a movie but I don't have that many and I've seen them all, lol. I'll probably do that tomorrow. For tonight I think I may just support my fellow DT'ers and call it an early evening in a few hours.

Hey Carla,
I hope you feel better! You seem to be doing really good on your diet, great job! I'm a college student too, although I'm in an apartment right now so it's a little easier to cook and stuff. I gained 30 pounds in the first 3 years of college, and I'm finally working on losing it.
I always make turkey or roast beef sandwiches on light wheat bread for lunch with tomatoes or lettuce on them, they're pretty low cal (140). Also, Green Giant makes microwaveable veggies that are SO GOOD, and low cal, although you have to watch the sodium in them.
Good job with the water too! That's one of my goals for next week, cause right now the only water I get is through diet cokes. Anyways, hope you feel better soon, and keep up the good work!

Thanks for stopping in blank~page. Turkey sandwiches on wheat bread are one of my favorite lunches. I don't like red meats so I usually stick to poultry. And I don't like steamed or cooked veggies lol. I'll eat them raw, I think they're delish that way. I'm a bit of a picky eater, but I just have to have things the way I like to eat them. I get all my nutrients still, and I'm eating the foods I like :)

I woke up and didn't go to the gym this morning. Still feeling awful. It's like the end of the cold after the peak when you're starting to get better but still feel miserable and are couging and have a runny nose. I want to go to the gym tomorrow, so hopefully I'm feeling better by then.

I showered and had my cheerios and milk for breakfast and then decided to take some cough medicine to help ease my throat and coughs now. My throat isnt scratchy anymore, but it hurts a little because I'm caughing all the time. I'll post back later with how the rest of my day is going.

Still sick, coughing isn't as bad, but nose hurts from all the tissues lol. I didn't get to the dining hall until 1:30 and came back to eat around 2pm, so I had a salad and a banana to hold me over until the late lunch. I just had a tuna sandwich and some milk. I've been trying to drink as much water as I can, and it seems to be helping a little. I just want to be better all ready! X-(

Well I set up my new signature for the next few goals of mine. I might need to readjust the goal weight if I lose too much this next week and reach my Halloween goal 5 weeks before Halloween lol. So it'll be a work in progress.

I went downstairs to buy some medicine for my sinuses. There's a lot of pressure on them and I got a headache so I bought Tylenol Cold Head Congestion medicine. They had a 2-pack with day and night pills, so there'd be no drowsiness in the day. Hopefully they'll help and I can get over this cold before class on Monday. Being sick in school is the worst. I can never pay attention and I'm definately not motivated for anything.

Hope you feel better soon Carla! My family is going through the cold thing too. Thank heavens I haven't gotten it yet though. Try and get some rest (and some sleep) it's hard just to breathe when you're that congested!

I'm feeling so much better, I think it's the medicine that's helping. Tomorrow I'm going to the gym when it opens at 10am with a friend. I was talking with her the other day about how I was going every day and she brought up that she'd wanted to go more often so she's going to join me on sunday's since she has that day off from work. We're going out to brunch after so we'll see what healthy choices I make. I'm excited to be going back to the gym. I know I went yesterday, but it seems like today was such a long day and it feels like I haven't been to the gym in a long time. I guess I enjoy going. I'm off to bed real soon so I'll update sometime tomorrow afternoon.

Sounds like a nice plan, Carla. I think we are surprised at how quickly our bodies get used to exercising, so get right back there after just a day or two(max) off.

I woke up today around 9:30 and met my friend outside then proceeded to the gym. I did a cross training program for 20 minutes on the elliptical, that was a good workout. Then I did an interval on the bike for 10 minutes. Stretched before and after the workout. Then I did some weight training for 15 minutes mostly on my arms and a little on my legs. I'm so weak LOL, I need to start working out my muscles more and gaining some strength. All in all, I was happy to be back at the gym. I always feel great after working out. But now for the grand total lost this week.....

11 pounds!! :D

On a side note, after the gym I went to brunch and had a ham and cheese omelet, a banana, half a grapefuit, and a glass of skim milk. It was good.

Hi, Carla:

Eleven lbs. gone is a nice "whoosh" - good for you. Eating a healthy mix of good food, and getting in all that exercise is making you a healthier person.

Congratulations on the weight loss. You should be very proud of yourself.

Thanks for coming by crazy. I can all ready see a difference in my stamina levels in just a week. I'll have to build up on the strength though, that'll take some time.

Well my alarm was set for 9:30 this morning but I woke up at 8 coughing and was afraid I woke my roommate and thought she should get more sleep so I decided to head for the gym and let her rest without hearing me cough.

Got to the gym and got on the bike, I rode for 22 minutes on the cross training program. It seems to have gotten harder than last time, LOL. Or it may have been that I added 7 minutes onto the workout. I walked around for a minute figuring out where I wanted to go next. There was a lot of people at the gym this morning. Twice as many as usual, not sure why that is.

I hit the elliptical next and did a cross training program on that, I tend to like those most since they give me the best workout. Went for 13 minutes, and the machine has you go forward and backwards. It was a little weird to get used to, but once you're going it's fine. I increased my workout by 5 minutes today. I think I might increase it a little each week.

Came back and had my breakfast, cheerios and skim milk. Saving my banana to eat in a couple hours before I go to class so it can hold me over until lunch. I go to see my nutritionist tomorrow, I'm hoping that it's informative for me.

Have a great day everyone!

Well I had a tuna sandwich for lunch with milk and a salad and an apple for a snack a couple hours later. It's dinner time now and I don't know what to get. I started wanting bad foods but that's probably because I'm more bored and not as hungry. Guess I need to go look around at what's available and hope not to cave in!

Well, TOM decided to arrive a little early this week. So I'm not sure if it'll interfere with my weigh in on sunday. We'll have to wait and see. And no, I didn't cave in last night for dinner. I had some of a Smart Ones dinner and a yogurt.

I got up at 6:30am to go to the gym. I got there and went on the elliptical for 30 min doing the cross training program. It was quite a good workout. The machine says I burned 350 calories. I did weights after for about 10-15 minutes. I stretched and came back to the dorm.

For breakfast I had my cheerios and skim milk but no banana because I ran out. I'll have to go to the store later today. I'm just about to leave to go to the nutritionist's appointment for 9, and I'll be in classes until 5 so I won't be checking journals until much later this evening.

Have a great day! :D

My day has gone pretty well so far. I had a peach for a morning snack since I didn't have any bananas, and for lunch I had a tuna sandwich, salad, and milk.

I went to the nutritionists appointment at 9. I met with the doctor and he wanted to know some family history information and asked me some questions about myself. I asked him if it was better to eat breakfast before or after my workout in the mornings. He told me that it was up to me, there really isn't a big difference if it's a small meal. But if you have a big meal, your blood is being used in your stomach to digest foods so you shouldn't workout right after a larger meal like dinner. He also told me that if I get dizzy working out on an empty stomach to switch to eating beforehand, but I don't even get hungry until I'm back in my room so I'll stay with eating breakfast after I work out.

He gave me an 8-page packet to record everything I eat, how much exercise I get, and my emotions/feelings for each day this week. I meet with him again next week to go over what I did this week. I think that might be a more informative session. He also gave me a long list of websites that are useful, so I think I might find the right forum and share them for everyone here.

Well I just got back from class so I'm not in the homework mood so I'll go read some posts for a little while first :)

I woke up this morning at 7:30 and didn't want to get up! I did anyway and went to the gym. I did the bike for 15 minutes and the elliptical for 15 minutes. Good workout today. Came back and had my cheerios, milk, and banana.

I went to my classes today which were great. I wasn't bored for almost any of it! After classes ended at 2 I had lunch, tuna and a salad. Then I went to donate blood since my school's army rotc team was sponsoring it. I was a regular donor back home, but at school I've only come a couple times due to my lack of car. So I went in today and they went to test my iron and it was at 37%!!! For the second time! It happened last year when I tried too. For those of you who aren't regular donors the cutoff of iron needed to donate is 38%. So it's not that my iron is low, it's just that they can't take blood from me since it would make my body's iron levels too low. Oh well :( I did find out that they have a Red Cross building 1.25 miles away from my dorm. So the lady said to come back in a couple weeks. I might just go walk there next saturday and try to donate again.

I'm not sure what I plan to do for dinner. Something to help my iron maybe? ;)

I feel pretty good today. I had a little no no incident with chocolate last night, but I'm not gonna dwell on it. It went over my calorie limit by 70 because of it, but other than that the diet's been going pretty well. I got up and went to the gym and hit the elliptical for 30 mins then I lifted weights for another 30. I'm going to start incorporating weights into my routine on sun, tues, and thurs I think. Either that or sun, wed, fri. Right now it doesn't matter but it will in a couple weeks.

I havent lost any weight yet this week, been exercising regularly at least 30 mins if not more and staying between 1200-1500 calories, aside from last night (i hit 1570). I don't weigh in until sunday, but I hear that week two you hardly lose anything, if at all. So as long as I don't gain this week I'll be a happy camper. Even a couple pounds gone would be nice lol. So we'll wait to see what happens come weigh in day on sun.

Well I'm off to work all day in about an hour so I'm going to read journals for a bit and then be back later tonight. Have a great day everyone! :D

Good morning everyone. Got up today when I REALLY didn't want to! It was cold and I wanted to sleep in lol. Well nevertheless I went to the gym anyway. Rode the bike for 20 minutes and the elliptical for 10. It was a decent workout. Had my cheerios and milk for breakfast with a banana. I had a tuna sandwich for lunch with a salad and for dinner I had a grilled cheese sandwich and some yogurt, and a cookie. :c( I need to start getting back on track! I know when I don't lose any weight this week, or gain some, that I'll blame it on that. Ah well, back at work for 6 hours today serving food. I'll be back later and post how eating went the rest of the day.

Wow! That stressed over a cookie? Sheesh, I ate 7 mini chocolate bars and a piece of (well large bite really) of apple pie two days ago. Don't worry that much about it. It takes 3500 calories to gain a pound, and you've been doing really well. Just jump right back on the veggie train (so much healthier than the gravy train) and you (we) will do fine!

Have a great day at work Carla!

I wouldn't normally care, it's just the day before I slipped with chocolate. And it's like that snowball effect. So I have to be hard on myself before I'm too easy and tell myself that it's okay to have this and that. That's what made me over 300 lbs! If I can work a "treat" into my meal plan and have enough calories over it, and I've been good all week then I don't mind, but letting myself slip two days in a row I can't let happen. I've gone too many times where I let it slide and I stop my diet, so no more!

I was pretty good today at work. I had a turkey/cheese sandwich for lunch with an apple and milk. And for dinner I brough home a tuna sandwich with strawberries. At work we can drink as much liquids as we want. And they have those soda machines, I try to not get any soda from them. Before my diet I would allow myself one drink that wasn't water. But now I'll only drink the water. I had at least 48-60oz+ at work. I'm guessing more because it was busy and I kept myself moving around so I got more thirsty.

One thing I like about work is that I'm standing and moving around all day, so it burns more calories than just sitting at this computer. But at my weight, standing for 6 hours straight does its toll on my feet. They hurt after about 3 or 4 hours in, and then 1-2 hours before I leave is when time goes so slow because all I want to do is sit! Lol.I do get a 15 min break, but it isn't enough for my feet to relax before I do my next shift. Hopefully when I lose some weight my feet won't hurt as bad.

Hey guys, my weekend has been pretty busy. I've been doing lots of homework and just hanging around, not very exciting. I did go to the gym both days. Did weights today and 50 reps on each of the machines I used. Don't have much time to be online right now, but hopefully the hecticness will die down in a day or two. Might be back later tonight to post more. Have a great day everyone!

I've been completely busy with schoolwork all day. I've just about had it with my work! Lol. Lots to do this week, midterms this week too so I'll probably be scarce for a while. I've been doing okay pretty much on my diet. I'm going to the gym everyday still, and trying to keep up with the diet under all the stress. Hasn't been too bad with the slip ups but this week it's going to stop so I can have a good weigh in next week! I haven't been reading any journals lately either, I'll try to get to it when I have some free time. Good luck on all your goals everyone!

Good afternoon. I woke up really early this morning to workout because I had a meeting with my nutritionist today. He wasn't very helpful, he told me I was doing good and to keep up with what I was doing. I asked about different foods to eat on campus and he only really gave me a few suggestions. He did tell me about this program that they do here at school called Build A Better Body. So I'm going to try it out and see what it's like. You have to meet with a counselor, and a doctor, and a fitness trainer, and you have weekly meetings. So hopefully that will be interesting. I have 3 scheduled appointments so far for the next 2 weeks. I have the meeting with the counselor tomorrow afternoon after my classes.

Today I'm determined to make it an excellent day! For breakfast I had my cheerios and milk with a banana. And I did the elliptical for 30 minutes. I wanted to do it longer, but I got up so early this morning and hardly got any sleep so I was tired, but was proud I even got out of bed LOL! The nutritionist also told me that I may not see results right away. It could take a month. Inches could go first and then the weight, so I know I've been doing pretty well for the most part, I'm confident that if I just wait it out I'll start losing the pounds more. Good luck everyone, I'll be back.

Wow it sounds like you have all the resources at your fingertips and that you are using them well!!!! I think that you are doing great and moving steadily in the right direction. I know college life can be extremely stressing. There were times when I ate way to much and then there were times that I would eating nothing at all. And that was a commuter college I wasn't even living away from home!! lol But here not eating is not an option with my fiance` here. He knows that I have battled with an eating disorder in the past and I just had a little run in with the old demoned a couple of weeks ago. But he has been an amazing support, he literally sat me down and was feeding me. But its not how it sounds though, he knew what I was thinking so he was starting me off slow with a meal that his grandmother sent home for me from the farm. He gave me just a few real small pieces of a couple of things, and he would just sit there and read my face and when he could tell that I had had enough he would stop. He would not force me to eat anymore, he was just happy in seeing me eat a little and just keep it down as opposed to eating a lot and having it come back up. Don't asked me how I got into this story I don't remember but I am sorry that I rambled, I was trying to tell you what a great job you have been doing but somehow it ended up in a story about me. So I will talk to you later and hopefully will not do tihs again haha take care and keep up the good work girl!!!
