View Full Version : Jumpin' into June Journal: The Challenge
Amarantha 06-02-07, 12:14 PM Landlubbers, listen up! This is Diet Wise Woman's retroactive JUNE challenge 'n she's jumpin' into it with both feet as she's a gettin' a LEETLE tired o' bein' visited by the Demon o' Not Meetin' Goals! X-(
This MONTH LONG CHALLENGE, retroactive to June 1, is takin' place 'cause I, Diet Wise Woman, havin' crowned self Queen o' the May in the arena o' gainin' weight 'n eatin' too much (which doth NOT get me closer to ULTRA GOAL) declare the followin' plan for June:
1) STICK TO THE CLICKETY CLACK PROGRAM. I've placed a target o' 1600 cals on the top line of the cal countdown device AND a WEEKLY EMERGENCY ALLOWANCE of 120 cals on the second line. I'll only use the emergency cals once in a week. When those hit zero, they are gone! I vow not to exceed these parameters for the whole month BUT the Diet Wise Woman Committee o' One for the Pursuit o' Ultra Goal will have discretion in making exceptions if this SACRED DIET GOAL be breached so that no one gets thrown off the island in June. But if there are too many violations, the Pirate o' Dietary Retribution could show up 'n whisk the unfaithful ones off to an unnamed location where they will be kept in a tower until they promise to be better dietary people.
2) The Exercise Fairie wants Diet Wise Woman's pledge to continue with the "marathon" miles and also to take a rest day or two during the week and get weights in also.
DWW hath agreed to all these terms and taken the CALORIE VOW retroactively to June 1, as stated, knowin' that the Pirate Ship o' Dietary Retribution be out there in the still waters somewhere beyond the horizon, just a peerin' in 'n monitorin' vow compliance. :cruise: X-( :whip: :cruise:
In the past, there have been visitors to ESA's journals who hath been concerned with the stringent 'n punitive soundin' nature o' ESA's thoughts sometimes re poor heroine Athletea's struggles to remain true to the Vow o' Dietary Sainthood (I just made that up). Rest assured, no heroine has ever been harmed in the filmin' o' these chronicles, nor developed an eatin' disorder or obsession about food (well, ok, we ARE a tad obsessed with food ... we like it a lot ... it is our friend 'n neighbor ... it is tasty 'n delicious and it makes us happy ... we like food, we LOVE food ... food is good).
It's just that in the pursuit o' ULTRA GOAL, as in all pursuits, there's a time to cut bait 'n fish 'n there's a time to just sail into the sunset 'n say, "I give up."
I am not good at sailin' into the sunset, so here I am at Athletea's same ol' stand. X-( ... fish 'n cut bait or walk the plank ... avast landlubbers, there's no profit in walkin' the plank.
Day One is a given, it is over, if the vow was broken on that day, the Committee doth not know 'bout it as the Cap'n was a'sleepin' on deck all day.
This is DAY TWO O' THE NEW! Woo!
Time fer tough love! Comply, DWW, or ye are off the island 'n into the tower! :cruise:
Amarantha 06-02-07, 12:17 PM Comradely Marathon miles will be posted as they occur.
JoThrive 06-02-07, 12:18 PM Hola, ye of the many names.:
DWW, looks like a good plan. We all need to restart ourselves at times. And I am happy I found your new journal and have the pleasure of posting in it.
Have a great weekend. Now go get yourself a nice glass of water, and keep smiling -
aria2000 06-02-07, 01:30 PM Hi there, Athletea!
Have fun with your new journal!
stopping to say "hi" and welcome to June - a month ahead awaiting you full of SUCCESS :D
STRUGGLING 06-02-07, 04:07 PM Just thought I'd drop by to say hi - love it, love it - good luck on your journey and wishing you calm seas :)
Amarantha 06-02-07, 07:21 PM Avast! Whilst DWW were TRYIN' to stay away from work (it keeps arrivin' in the work inbox), kind visitors from shore motored over in their pleasure crafts :cruise: to say how-do 'n get a look at the new hut! Huzzah 'n thanks fer the visits o' JoJo, Aria, Beth 'n Strugglin'!!!
Psst, guys, DWW hath been a'spyin' herself on that Pirate turned Calorie Police Informant out there on the ship beyond the horizon. He's pretty cute. Might not mind gettin' kidnapped ... shiver me timbers, landlubbers. :cruise:
Amarantha 06-02-07, 09:45 PM Comradely Marathon, Official Record Book
June 1, .5, 44 to go!
June 2, 2.75, 41.25 to go!
smallfri 06-02-07, 10:32 PM Hmmm, if you get kidnapped by the calorie police, then what. HMMMMMM. lol. Good luck, I know you will get there. As with all of us.
Amarantha 06-02-07, 11:59 PM I think they lock the kidnapees in a tower without cake for awhile, Smallfri!
Or is that what happens to the Survivor exiles before they get to come back and choose who wins the big loot?
Amarantha 06-03-07, 11:37 AM Diet Wise Woman did NOT do as well as expected on the cals yesterday, but again, the Calorie Control Pirate Patrol was asleep on deck 'n did not notice, so DWW is still in the game and on the island!
This is a workday for me. Will report on weigh-in later as it's too early for that yet.
Amarantha 06-03-07, 04:31 PM Avast, that Regain Demon :lil: hath once again claimed the Golden Scale o' Dietary Justice.
It's like this. Once in awhile, Diet Wise Woman holds the Ceremony o' Weighin' in on the Golden Scale, but alack, a mischevious entity known as the REGAIN DEMON (gasp) :lil: creeps to the ceremonial weighin' grounds in the night before the event 'n STEALS the real GS, leavin' it with an imitation one made o' fools' gold that LIES 'n says DWW hath GAINED weight.
This is in an attempt to demoralize her 'n make her give up on the pursuit o' ULTRA GOAL and believe that, "Oh, woe be me, I can never lose this weight. I will never get to ULTRA GOAL. All is lost."
Which, of course, DWW knoweth to be false, so she doesn't mind too much.
She hath contacted the Special Anti Regain Demon Police Squad on Deserted Diet Island where she is currently makin' an episode o' Diet Survivor (with the previously mentioned Calorie Control Special Police Pirate watchin' from a ship beyond the horizon to be sure there are not TOO many infractions o' the June calorie control challenge by Diet Survivor Game June participants, 'cause if there are, they will get voted off the island 'n detained in a tower without access to cake), 'n an all-points bulletin has gone out for the apprehension o' RG (Regain Demon) 'n the return o' the REAL Golden Scale.
A new goal date for ULTRA GOAL will be set by the Goal Committee on Deserted Diet Island when it seems provident, as it is fairly evident it will NOT be reached by July 29. A goal of 135 has been set for July 1. No changes have been made in the caloric parameters o' the June challenge (we just need to STICK to 'em this time).
In mentionin' the visit from RG, we feel it imperative to mitigate it somewhat by noting that we have been runnin' 'n liftin' weights prodigiously over and above what we previously had been doin' and that we feel stronger than ever physically and that our jeans are significantly looser. All this indicates that some o' this regain is muscle. We believe that a weight drop will follow as that increased muscle "eats" more calories in the coming weeks than ever before.
And if anyone starts to feel sorry fer us 'n wants to offer sympathy for this horrible tragedy o' bein' so many times lately visited by that pesky RG, please do not bother 'cause, well, in the words o' our favorite ancient monarch: "Please understand that no one is depressed in this house. We are not concerned with the possibilities of failure. They do not exist."
NEXT WEEK'S GOAL: 141!!!
Amarantha 06-04-07, 02:47 AM Today went well program wise, except have eaten the "emergency cals" already but that's ok.
Have a plan to hop on Demon Scale :lil: at some point in the week (as I often unofficially do) and if it is UP will ignore and if it is DOWN will declare that my new official weight and set a new weigh-in day.
This will sidestep a problem that I thinkin' is contributin' to the upward spiral, that of eating and drinking a lot very late Saturday night, sabotaging the Sunday weigh-in even if I've actually lost weight that week. So shuffling things around might help.
Very stressful work day and tomorrow will be also. Brain - dead now, so good night. Diet Wise Woman fell asleep hours ago. There is only the entity known as "I" here right now.
smallfri 06-04-07, 11:08 AM Those darn scale demons. Keep it up, get some rest to. Sounds like you need it.
Amarantha 06-04-07, 06:31 PM Just done workin', Smallfri, so rest be next on the agenda! Thanks fer the suggestion!
Amarantha 06-04-07, 06:32 PM June 4, 1 mile, 40.25 to go!
I am a bein' so sorry the calorie demon made it through Capt. Jack's demon barrier to ye island's great golden o' scale ceremony. Do ye think one of the maiden's stole your success? I am a fearin' that the demon may show up tomorrow at my ceremony. I am a tryin' to fight him but not sure this week what the heck me should be a doin' to him to keep him out!!! If ye find a way to be a gettin' rid of the demon please do tell! I am a workin' out and eatin' properly this here week however I am fearin' that the weight training may have added to my pounds!
I wish ye much success with next weeks goal weight. Hang in there ye will hang that demon up fer good before long! Ye have come to far ye maiden to turn around now! Be aware of the stress demon as well nip him out quickly if he be approaching again'.
I hate it when the scale...lies. It should burn in hell. Hell, I tell you! Hell! HELL! HELL!!!!
Stay on target. Be sure that you FEEL good too. That is more important to me than a number on a scale. Feeling good and being able to do more and more exercise-wise is where it is at for me. Besides, I can burn off 900 calories in an hour if I need to...after...say....a chocolate incident. It happens.
Take care of yourself. Be good to yourself this week too!
smallfri 06-04-07, 07:22 PM Cfj, how about telling us what you really think about the scale. lol. :lil:
Amarantha 06-04-07, 09:14 PM  Never mind, Cfj, here on Deserted Diet Island we know how to deal with those evil lyin' Scale Demons. They work really well as toasters!!!
Sunny, fear not, I think all the Scale Demons are at my house this week, they seem to be havin' a convocation. I don't think any will show up at your ceremony!!!
 Hiya, Smallfri!!!
Huzzah! I am NOT stayin' on target today ... film at 11!
Amarantha 06-04-07, 09:20 PM Diet Wise Woman, havin' reached her cal limit early today, hath consulted with the Turnin' Over a New Leaf in the June Challenge Committee 'n all have decided that though we have not been doin' all that well eats wise, instead o' allowin' a "cheatin'" kind o' day ('cause we really have to eat supper), we will declare one o' those "exception" days we spoke 'bout in layin' out our personal June challenge.
We know, we know, we know, too many exceptions have seemingly already been goin' on but these were not OFFICIAL EXCEPTION DAYS!
The rationale here is to avoid the givin' in to the failure mentality so early in the game. If this is a sanctioned EXCEPTION DAY it should be possible to just eat dinner and return to the straight and narrow.
Any official EXCEPTION DAYS have to be voted on by the committee before the overage can legally be allowed.
The committee consists of Diet Wise Woman, Diet Wise Woman and Diet Wise Woman, plus the Pirate, who in addition to being a member of the Caloric Secret Police Force could stand to lose a few pounds. So he's eatin' dinner with DWW and the two have agreed to collaborate.
We may also, this week, be discussin' in committee the number o' "emergency cals" over and above the cal target that are to be allotted.
The point o' the emergency cals is the same as the 35 flexpoints in WW, to prevent the feelin' o' "cheatin'" that oft derails a diet-o!
This concept needs some refinement, but if this were NOT an OFFICIAL EXCEPTION DAY (which we DID sanction in the beginnin' o' this challenge, we'd have been on a binge by now instead o' cookin' a lil piece o' fish topped with fat free mayo 'n dill).
So, "Merrily we diet along, diet along, diet along, merrily we diet along, all day long."
If this postie maketh no sense, dinna worrit 'bout it. DWW hath the situation well in hand, o!
Tomorrow will NOT be an exception day!
Amarantha 06-05-07, 09:50 AM Report on the investigation that will hopefully lead to the arrest and conviction of the archdietcriminal Regain Demon. :lil: :lapd: :whip:
Following two days of "lackluster" performance on the part of the diet detectives of the Special Squad for the Arrest 'n Conviction o' Regain Demons, a breakthrough in the case may have occurred at approximately 7 p.m. last evening when information was received that the RD was seen eatin' a healthy meal in Diet Village Inn. Since healthy meals are known to make RD weak (he only thrives on "bad" food), the detectives felt quite cheerful in their belief that they'd soon have this guy in handcuffs.
Film at 11.
smallfri 06-05-07, 10:57 AM Glad to see those demons are being arrested. Hopefully most of them will be caught.
You crack me up! LOL Your journal is a hoot, but underneath all that humor is a very determinded lady and I have no doubts considering how much you've already lost that your tough love program is gonna knock the rest of those pounds overboard and give them a burial at sea!!
You are doing great and I agree that sometimes you just have to get strict and give yourself some tough love to get out of that state of contentedness or maybe it's just a state of feeling like "I've got it down this time, so I don't have to be careful"... don't know, I think that last one is my "state of stupidity". I go through my times like that periodically. I've often wondered why I can't seem to be as disciplined with my dieting and execising as I am with my music? Hmmm.... but I'm getting there slowly but surely....
And I have NO doubts that you will too! You are a true inspiration! Have a great week!!
Wow! Glad to hear the arrest of the demons are coming! Toasters what a great idea. Happy to hear the Queen o' the island was seen eating a healthy meal to discourage and run off the demons this week. Way to go.
Amarantha 06-05-07, 12:42 PM Huzzah 'n sis boom bah!!! Thanks be fer the visits o' Smallfri, Dj 'n Sunny!!!! :cheer: Yea, never fear the Regain Demon is all but in handcuffs. Sadly, there will be no burial at sea, though, as Regain Demons are immortal.
But then so are Diet 'n Exercise Fairies, so we're safe!
Amarantha 06-05-07, 12:42 PM Comradely Marathon Log:
June 5, 3 miles, 37.25 to go!
(Also did circuit training because it's weight day)
WOW ESA great job on the wogging! You are really clicking off those miles girl! Congrats and keep on.
I just wanted to thank you for running off the regain demon! Thanks to you my golden scale day ceremony went off with no gains and even got rid of a bit as well. So thanks I hope that you and the DWW maidens will keep him in jail for forever & ever. Thanks again.
Amarantha 06-06-07, 11:58 AM Huzzah, Sunny, thanks fer lettin' me know. I was going to check on you yesterday but couldn't find your journal and then got called away from the computer! Congratulations!!!
Amarantha 06-06-07, 11:58 AM Comradely Marathon Log: June 6, 1.25 miles, 36 to go!
JoThrive 06-07-07, 02:11 PM Hi, Athletea:
Hope you are having a great day!!!
You are putting the miles every day. Whew. I hope that you are having a great week. Take care.
Amarantha 06-07-07, 08:54 PM Huzzah, huzzah, huzzah! Ee'nie meenie chile beanie, the spirits are about to speak (that's from the Rocky & Bullwinkle Show long, long, LONG ago) ... thanks be fer the visits o' JoJo o' Life Be Good Fame 'n Fagan the Cyclin' King!
Only miles today are on the car  as I have to make the second long trip o' the day so took a day off exercise, which is a good thing, accordin' to the Exercise Fairie who's been hangin' 'round Fitness Fantasy Island lately.
Cals good! Hopefully the Regain Demon is on the run 'n not lookin' back but will not hold any unofficial scale ceremonies until the proper date!
So off I be to the work assignment from the Black Lagoon. Bah, it promiseth not to be short, but at least there is no food there.
Amarantha 06-08-07, 11:00 AM ... on Deserted Diet Island discovered!!! What a surprise!
Film at 11!
Yester e'en, Diet Heroine Wise Woman heard a noise (mostly inside her head) that left her with the urge to go explorin' 'n in her rambles 'bout the sandy shores she came 'pon a huge Victorian (of course) mansion that buzzed with busy activity, nestled 'n hidden 'mongst the palm fronds 'n guarded by Winged Diet Monkeys.
Well, of course, bein' an empress, she told the monkeys to let her pass 'n they did 'n she met up with the director o' this place, who looked suspiciously like Diet Q. Victoria o' Olde :queen: 'n who was wont to say: "Please understand that no one is depressed in this house. We are not interested in the possibilities of failure. They do not exist."
Well, of course, DWW asked about what failure possibilities, uninterestin' as they were, were bein' addressed here, so Q. Vic, AKA as Ultra Director o' the Secret Cadre o' Ultra Goal 125 Seekers (SCOUG125S), said the work o' this hidden facility was to further the Noble Cause o' Reachin' Ultra Goal (125) throughout the world 'n at the same time the arrest, conviction 'n detention at a Diet Retrainin' Center o' that evil cadre o' demons :lil: that includes the archcriminals Lyin' Scale Demon, Regain Demon, Binge Demon, Stress Eatin' Demon, 'n a few more bad characters.
"Where can I sign up for this noble cause?" asketh DWW.
"On the dotted line," saith the (SCOUG125S) Official Sign Up Guy.
"Now," saith (SCOUG125S) Director Vic. "We are not amused by all this lolly-gaggin' inside headquarters. DWW, please return to your pleasant jog 'bout the island 'n then to your hut to collect your belongin's as you will be movin' into Victorian House Diet Headquarters anon whilst we think up an assignment fer ye."
Believe it or not ...
Amarantha 06-08-07, 12:21 PM Comrades Arise!!!
June 8, 3 miles, 33 to go!
(This was broken up into segments where I came back to house and did other things. I also did weights in my home gym, mostly upper body).
Amarantha 06-09-07, 01:34 PM Things have been quiet 'n secretive at the Victorian Mansion on Deserted Diet Island, which is turnin' out to be NOT so deserted. Since signin' on as an official secret operative o' the Cadre o' Characters Dedicated to the Apprehension, Detention 'n Retrainin' o' Diet Demons :lil: , our diet heroine the Wise Woman hath moved into the Manse but no word o' her activities have been leaked to the press.
It is thought she hath work to do!
Film at 11!
Amarantha 06-09-07, 05:03 PM Comrades Arise! Saturday, June 9, 3 miles, 30 to go
Total 6-3 to 6-9, 11.25 miles
smallfri 06-09-07, 06:35 PM You are doing well with your marathon running, keep going.
Amarantha 06-10-07, 01:40 PM Thanks, Smallfri!!!
Amarantha 06-10-07, 01:57 PM ... that the folks inhabitin' the Secretive Diet Cadre 'n Diet Demon :lil: Apprehension Squad in the Hidden Victorian Manse here on Deserted Diet Island do a Ceremony o' the Golden Scale o' Dietary Justice just as Heroic Diet Wise Woman did when on her own on the island. Now that she's joined the cadre, she turned out this a.m. in the Manse Main Board Room where a much more utilitarian and no-nonsense version o' the Golden Scale o' Dietary Justice beloved o' all dietary law-abidin' folk everywhere had been placed in the center o' the room. Above the scale floated some disembodied 'n green glowing digital letters that said, "Maintain is good, a small loss is REALLY good and a big loss is GREAT! What's up with the weight?" The letters faded as each cadre operative hopped on the scale, to be replaced with three digit glowin' numbers respresentin' the weigher's current stats.
Turns out that new recruit Diet Wise Woman managed to lose a grand total o' .4. She started to express irritation at this since she'd been doin' ok on the clickety click program 'n ran 11.25 miles this week X-( 'n had hoped fer MORE (sheesh) but then she remembered the green glowin' saying in the air above the scale ('A SMALL LOSS IS REALLY GOOD!') 'n said, "Whoop-te-do," instead. :hippy:
Then she had breakfast and attended the first meetin' o' the Cadre Committee fer the Improvement o' the Clickety Clack Plan. A decision was made at that meeting to change the basic target cals for all operatives on that plan to 1550 (first line o' the clicker) and to then place 100 "emergency cals" on the second line that the operatives are asked to use only in genuine eatin' emergencies and save as long as possible, BUT after each hundred is gone, it can be immediately re-entered into the clicker and will be available for the next emergency. It is hoped this procedure will prevent the Binge Demon :lil: from sneakin' in 'n overtakin' the Diet Detectives 'n Secret Agents as they go about their important work o' ROUNDIN' UP these Diet Demons :lil: that wreak havoc on the Peacelovin' Dietary Community with its diet-virtuous dietary law abidin' citizenry! :not:
Rest day from exercise, work to do but may not do it.
smallfri 06-10-07, 07:24 PM A small loss is great. Keep it up, it will come off.
Glad to hear ye DWW maiden turned her ceremony day into a Whoop-te-do day!!! Congrats!
I am prayin' for my own whoop-te-do day at my next ceremony. Not sure if I will get to attend offical weigh-in this week due to schedule.
ROTFL laughin at myself as I read your journal from the past few days I couldn't help but think here you are finding such a great Victorian Mansion filled with all matter of good things to help ye reach ye goal and all I could think was gee I just wish I could wear victoria secrets stuff! lol
Oh well have a blessed week.
aria2000 06-10-07, 10:08 PM Great job on your 1/2 lb loss, Athletea! :)
Amarantha 06-11-07, 11:02 AM Thanks be to Smallfri, Sunny, 'n Q. Aria fer their encouragin' posties!!!
Sunny, ye WILL wear V. Secrets in the near future, I predict!
Huzzah, I must work anon and not come back to any diet sites until much later.
Amarantha 06-11-07, 11:03 AM Comrades Arise!
Monday, June 11, 1 mile, 29 to go
Amarantha 06-12-07, 01:12 AM Eatin' day at the Manse was not a good one. All operatives decided to ignore everything 'n go to bed.
Amarantha 06-12-07, 10:52 AM Planning on eatin' improvement today. Dragging self to gym ... OR ... mayhap I will check out a new gym. I'm not really happy where I am but we'll see where the car takes me. Need to rest up a bit first, though.
The tale o' the Secret Victorian Diet Manse is shrouded in fog 'n secrecy. Film at 11.
Have a good work out, ESA..... good for you for going even though you're not completely happy there. If you have more than one gym option, I think it's wise to check the others out. You might find one that suits you more.
Take care and have a great week!
Amarantha 06-12-07, 05:18 PM Thanks fer the visit, Dj! I did actually go to the new gym and looked at it but it did not have an indoor track, which is essential to my marathon training, in my opinion. The guy told me, well, you can just run on the treadmill, which, of course, I do sometimes, but it's not as good for general training for me as the track or outdoors in my neighborhood, so I went to the old gym.
Amarantha 06-12-07, 05:19 PM Comrades Arise! Tuesday, June 12, 3 miles, 26 to go
They are building an indoor track at my gym. Why? They shovel the snow off of the local high school track fields in my area all winter (running volunteers and groups, not the city). If I had to run, then I would want to run outside too. But...I hate to run. I don't mind sprinting, but hate jogging with a passion.
Keep up the good work. Take care.
:cheer: Cheering you on for the up coming golden o' scale day you can do it!!!
Amarantha 06-13-07, 10:25 AM Fagan, I live in pretty much the hottest state in the U.S., so that's why indoor tracks make sense for getting a lot of the training in during the summer, even though one needs to train in the heat somewhat also as the races themselves are outside ... my next one is August and we are all gonna fry, even at 6:30 a.m., by which time it is often in triple digits. 'Course if it snowed here (occasionally it does, but if you blink, you miss it), I would hate runnin' outside even if there was a clear track. Thanks fer postin'!!
Thanks fer the cheers, Sunny. I can use 'em.
Amarantha 06-13-07, 10:28 AM "Can we do it? Of course we can!" ~ JoJo
That's the motto for me for the rest o' the week as yesterday was less than stellar! I have noticed a pattern developin' o' ignorin' the clickety clacker's warnin' to stop eatin' and I am also not heedin' the doc's warnin' to do some o' my mileage as walking So today I will walk (and that will count on the comrade's marathon).
I'm also takin' the extra step this week o' runnin' my numbers on my fitday PC software and studyin' 'em, I can see why I'm not losin' weight, so ...
Deep within the enclave known as the Secret Victorian Diet Manse, a realization dawned on a few trusted Diet Operatives that there is a MOLE in their midst, er, a Diet Demon Mole.
A plan has been put into action to identify and apprehend this enemy within. He, or she, will be in handcuffs by Sunday morning.
This is a DIET EMERGENCY and no deviations from the plan will be allowed, even for business lunch on Friday (it is thought that Diet Demon Moles sometimes masquerades as lunch partners, servers, etc., even taking the form o' inanimate objects such as menus or pizzas).
Off to WALK not run today and then work in a distant town.X-(
See you are a wise DWW because you are aware of the clickety clackers warning and can take action now! I too saw a diet demon mole outside my house yesterday so I stayed in and read some health books instead. I will not let the diet demon mole dig up my success this week. They are such messy creatures.
Amarantha 06-13-07, 01:13 PM Yea, Sunny, those Diet Demon Moles are evil and bad. Never fear, we are smarter than they are!!! Huzzah!
Amarantha 06-13-07, 01:14 PM Comrades Arise!
Wednesday, June 13, 3.5 miles, 22.5 to go
(This was all walking briskly to easily per advice from a doc I sometimes see who is a runner of six decades' experience and a big motivator.
I need to remember that super long endurance runners (whatever they call those folks who do it for days on end as in Comrades and there's one in New Jersey, I think ... anyhow, I digress, walk much of the distance and that walking is GOOD and proper for wanna be runners like me ... AND Super Doc says my goal for the 5k should be to be gettin' bod 'n heart used to the distance rather than worryin' 'bout gait or speed.)
Amarantha 06-14-07, 03:08 PM Comrades Arise
Thursday, June 14, 3.5 miles, 19 to go
All running with a few walk and stretch breaks: 3 on gym track, .5 on treadmill.
Did weights also, before the run. Did very heavy today.
Sounds like you are getting great advice from the wise doc! You are doing so great and that 5k will be a breeze. I admire ye greatly! Have a great weekend on the island and I hope the diet moles have drown at sea.
You are cranking right along with the running and the exercise. Listen to the running doc. She sounds like she knows what she is talking about. You will demolish that 5k.
Take care of yourself, and have a fun weekend. Stay out of the triple digit weather too.
jezebel32 06-15-07, 09:25 PM Ahoy dear Queen
I'm heartened to see the Queen is still in the fight. Yet never fear--the Shining Knights in Lighter Weight Armor are on their weight in to hold back the dastardly Diet Demons, so Her Highness can concentrate on the 5K at hand!
Are you doing a specific training plan for the 5K? Jeff Galloway has some great 5K plans! And you know I'm a convert to his run for a few, walk for a few, routine.
Fair sailing
:cruise:
The Piratess
Amarantha 06-16-07, 12:07 AM Ahoy, Mate Jezebel!!!
I love Jeff Galloway's methods and yea I also do the walk breaks thanks to him, although oddly they are getting less and less during the runs. I am, however, thanks to a talk with a friend doing some just total walk days now mixed with all-run days.
I've looked at specific plans that are out there but find they don't fit the way I want to do this. I do have a specific strategy that is geared to building my mental endurance for a comfortable race. I'm not worried about speed at this point, just trying to build endurance and also doing the weights to build as much strength as possible.
I want my 5k to be a cakewalk compared to the 4.2 I did in April.
Amarantha 06-16-07, 12:09 AM Emergency, emergency, emergency Will Robison!!! A pattern is beginnin' to emerge on Fridays lately that I throw away all the calorie control and sabotage my Sunday weigh-ins. Will work on that next week, but it did happen again for the second week in a row. Food was all quite healthy, though, and that was a plus.
Amarantha 06-16-07, 12:14 AM Didn't see thee there, Fagan!!! Thanks, fer the visit!
The runnin' doc is a gent ... sort of a friend, sort of a doc to me. Yea, he looks at runnin' in an interestin' way that is all his own, as do I!!!
 Alack, where I live it be fairly hard to stay out o' triple digits, they are the norm for many months out of the year, but the indoor track is great. However the race is to be outside, so I will practice that in July. I know I was very hot in the April race ... August will be hotter still. But that's what makes it all fun!
Amarantha 06-16-07, 12:16 AM Had the days of the week wrong in previous few marathon posts, so will go back and edit. Anyway, today was a walk day and I wanted to go longer but was very tired and had a long workday.
Friday, June 15, 2.5 miles, 16.5 to go
Amarantha 06-16-07, 12:19 AM Sunny!!! Didn't mean to miss thee also, lass. I am lookin' at the screens funny 'n didn't see all the posts at once.
Brain be dead!!! Must play mahjong tonight (online, very relaxing). I admire thee also, Sunny! Ye are doin' great! Huzzah!
Amarantha 06-16-07, 01:23 PM Word goin' 'round the Secret Diet Manse (headquarters of the ultra hush hush Anti Diet Demon :lil: Apprehension Squad o' Deserted Diet Island) that the Lacklustre Weight Loss Effort Demon :lil: has been arrested and tried for high dietary crimes. Word is he's been banished to another dietary planet. A secret confab is even now goin' on at the Manse, with the topic under discussion how the Dietary World will benefit by the absence o' this nuisance. Film at 11
Amarantha 06-16-07, 01:26 PM Comrades Arise!
Walking in sun and playing with GPS: Saturday, June 16, .75 mile, 15.75 to go
Did you feel that! Right then did ya? Was it an earthquake? Oh no just me and the maidens jumping up and down over the arrest of the lacklustre weight loss effort diet demon!:lapd: So happy he has been banished! I am feeling alot safer.
I thought I would share with you I use to have a different weigh-in night and it seemed the weekends would make it so hard. So I now weigh-in on tuesdays. The weekends are the hardest for me too as hubby loves to go out and such. Although we are changing up some and going out other nights more instead of just the weekend which helps weird I know. I have to be really careful. Maybe if the maidens met on a different night for offical weigh-in it would be helpful to the islanders. Just a thought not butting in though. Have a beautiful weekend on the island. Go Golden o' Scale Day!
Amarantha 06-17-07, 05:12 AM Huzzah, Sunny, t'is a good thought at that. I have been playing with different weigh-in days but they never seem to catch on in my world. I have a firm conviction that Sunday it must be as it's the first day of the week. Of course, I generally work on Sundays so the weekend doesn't hold the same feeling for me that it does for some. Also, if I change the day of the week (and I've tried 'em all at one time or another), I tend to sabotage the night before anyway. Ah, well, we'll see how tomorrow goes. Today went very well and I am glad ye feel safer now that Lacklustre Diet Demon :lil: is banished.
aria2000 06-17-07, 10:52 AM Good luck on your weigh-in, Athletea! :)
Amarantha 06-17-07, 02:46 PM Thanks, Aria. Full report on the dastardly intervention o' the Unkind Scale Demon :lil: follows. But it's somewhat thanks to your great attitude last week that I'm takin' all with a realization that so much can be done in the time remainin' 'till the end o' June!
Amarantha 06-17-07, 02:53 PM Yesterday's eating was quite good but it wasn't enough to offset the Stress Eatin' Demon :lil: that came by on Friday 'n the Entity Known as Diet Wise Woman was once again up in digits at the Ceremony o' the Golden Scale. But it was not as much up as the all-time recent high two weeks ago, so we are somewhat ahead o' the game here at Secret Victorian Diet Manse, headquarters of the Anti Diet Demon Secret Squad!
The Lackadaisical 'n Lacklustre Diet Demons have been apprehended and deported to a whole other planet where the inhabitants LIKE cultivatin' extra poundage on their alien bods. :beam:
Meanwhile, Secret plans are afoot at the Manse for the arrest 'n conviction o' the Binge Eatin' Demon, who has been located by the Anti Diet Wreckers Special Police Squad. Diet Wise Woman says she wants to especially get in on the operation against BED (Binge Eatin' Demon) as he is a very, very bad boy! :lapd:
Film at 11!
On a personal note, this coming week will be dedicated to the STAY ON DIET PROJECT as a lot can be done in a week now that Lacklustre Diet Demon is outta here!
So on to 141, then the 130s and then to ULTRA GOAL, plus a planned reduction in weekly running miles (not for the weight issue, but I am tapering off a bit to remain comfortable in the coming months).
I briefly considered gettin' discouraged by bein' up once again, but decided against it! 'Cause, as we all know: "Please understand that no one is depressed in this house. We are not interested in the possibilities of failure. They do not exist."
Song for today: "Just around the corner, there's ULTRA GOAL in the sky, so let's have another cup of coffee and let's (not) have another piece of pie!"
aria2000 06-17-07, 03:02 PM Great attitude, Athletea!
You WILL get there!
ESA never fear no maiden ever gotten any a where by not a havin' to be a dealin' with a little bit o' the weight demons. It is merely their way of testin' ye and by holdin' on ye are givin' em quit a fight! They were a heard talkin' that ye were a gona win and they are becomin' quite scared of ye. So stay strong!
Ye are goin' to be a reachin' the shore soon. Saw Capt. Jack again and he said ye were still a lookin' hot! So hang on mate!
I am a fearin' this tuesday's weigh-in fer me will be a maiden lost overboard as maiden has a been havin' to take steriods again. Maiden is blown up like a blow fish the capt ate fer lunch.
However as ye well know we maidens are NOT DISCOUARAGED nor DEPRESSED nor will we REGRESS in our PROGRESS and keep it movin' ferward at all times.
I have sent out orders to all ships at sea to a be on the look out fer the diet demons and capture them all at once. I have sent special orders out to capture and KILL all Island Inhabiting Binge Eating Demons at once no questions asked they must go!!!
Received new message in rum bottle jus this morn' statin that the captains felt this week would be a better week seein' as how the tidal waves of binge eatin' are fer from ye shores. Good luck ESA on the week and raise ye flag if ye be a needin' help!
Amarantha 06-17-07, 06:47 PM Thanks, Q. Aria 'n Sunny!!!
Oh, but please rescind the KILL order as even evil, scumbags o' Diet Demons must be allowed to live 'n fulfill their destiny. They just have to fufill it far away from US.
I must confess that at times I almost like the Binge Demon. :lil: He is definitely a nicer personality than the Stress Eatin' Demon :lil: , who, by the way, is a close cousin to a demon :lil: I know in the nonvirtual world. This person (an actual person) never shows up on the scene without bringin' trouble 'n sorrow, sturm 'n drang upon the universe and he is ALWAYS accompanied by the Stress Eatin' Demon :lil: , who is the worst o' the worst when it comes to Diet Demons :lil: ...
Amarantha 06-18-07, 11:31 AM COMRADES ARISE! Monday, June 18, 1.25 miles, 14.50 to go
In honor of you miss maiden ESA the order has been rescinded and the evil demons have been shipped off to an island where there are no maidens to bother only shipmates who are serving time for tempting maidens and others who are becoming skinny, fit and healthy.
June 24th. is your day go and get it!:peace:
Amarantha 06-19-07, 02:52 PM Comrades Arise! Tuesday, June 19, 3.50 mile, 10.75 to go (my figures are off between this board and another one where I'm loggin' this, will check this later. I must have left something out, as this is correct, I think. Too tired from all this runnin' to subtract. Anyway, had a run at gym track, plus weights!
Amarantha 06-19-07, 10:48 PM Comrades Arise! I am officially not givin' house room in my brain as to why both of my Comrades logs seem to be off by a mile, so on this log am declarin' that the mystery mile has been run 'n the official figure is 10.75. Case closed!!!
T'was a slightly higher than I'd like cal day but otherwise the test run o' UGP is goin' ok. Would have had a better cal count if I hadn't had to have dinner, pesky blood sugar issue! Dinner was protein, a deviled egg made with fat free mayo and dill and part of the egg mixed with a little water packed cup of tuna, also with dill (fresh dill).
Dill is very good with everything, but especially eggs and fish. I love dill and used to grow it in the midwest but here it just fries.
Not to be nosey but got to ask you of course as maiden ruler of the island you do not have to answer as will not hurt this maidens feelings! You have made mention a couple of times about the heat where you live so I was wondering do you live in arizona or florida? I love arizona we vacation there alot I never see fat people in those healthy hiking and biking areas or tucson! Oh how I want to be one of them!
Anyways I am still in awe of maiden running and wish you much success reaching 10.75 miles left. Have a happy day remember we must be aware of all demons at all times!
Amarantha 06-20-07, 12:52 PM I'll pm thee, Sunny! 'N nay, ye are not nosy, I'm just cautious!
Almost there with the running. Cool. I like dill too. There are some cajun/creole dishes that use it a lot too. It balances against strong flavors well. Hmmmm....I may have to make some creaole/dill turkey burger tonight. Thanks!
It is good to be cautious. I'm almost anti-cautious myself, but then again, not many people stalk or harrass big dudes over 40 years old. :D
Have a great week! Take care.
Amarantha 06-20-07, 02:15 PM Thanks for postin', Fagin!
And it is by NOT bein' cautious that I've now learned to be so! :)
Amarantha 06-20-07, 02:16 PM Comrades Arise!
Wednesday, June 20, 5 miles, 5.75 to go :cheer:
Amarantha 06-21-07, 08:26 AM The saga o' the Secret Victorian Diet Manse has been temporarily interrupted by the lack o' imagination o' the dieter here.
Bah, had a miserable day/night at work and ate a BIT too much (though not a huge deviation), let a person get to me and upset me, will NOT do so today and am up to go to gym early.
Film at 11!
Amarantha 06-21-07, 09:23 AM Closing this journal due to aforesaid fizzle out of storyline, which somewhat goes like this: the Anti Diet Demon Forces of Good Dietary Behavior have left Secret Diet Island and set up headquarters at another secret location (as the Diet :lil: s have found out where they are and are wreakin' havoc on the good dietary behavior communication system at the Manse). The UGP Manifesto Committee has developed the latest version of UGP (Ultra Goal Plan) and the document is being published and distributed at new ADDFOGDB (you figure that out) headquarters. Film at 11.
