Be SURE to read all of this:

The next boot camp will be June 26th Thru July 30th

Here is the general idea:

This boot camp lasts for 35 days.

It is a no excuse challenge - does not matter what happens in our lives, we must stick to the commitment we make when we enter this challenge - hence the name boot camp lol

You set your own goals and commitments, but if you don't met them - you get booted out of the challenge. ( see exception below ) Harsh? Yes it is and I got booted out of my own challenge the last 2 times we did this.

I have created a penalty fine to give each of us a second chance to remain in the challenge.

Some more of the rules are:

1. You must post at least 2 times a week

2. you must give support to at least 1 other boot camp member ( of your chose ) 1 time a week. Have a great week smallfri does NOT count as a supportive post!

3. You must post your wi by the time I sign in on Tuesday morning for it to count.

Still to be determined but will get back to you.

You do NOT have to post your actual weight - you DO have to keep track of your starting weight ( on your own if you wish ) as of June 26th and post specific losses or gaines on or before the dates posted above. - This change is at the request of several people who do not wish to post their actual weight, but will post their losses or gains.

WI Days:

[I]June 26th, July 2nd, July 9th, July 16th, July 23rd, July 30th

The first and the last wi are a must, the other wi will count toward me posting the weekly chart. Any weight not posted by the time I make the chart Tuesday morning will not be added to the chart.

I will do weigh in tally's as soon as possible after the said dates above, as my time permits - I will ask that if you dont post your starting weight they you will have to take a penalty fine. Or at least starting lbs.

4. There will be 2 surprise challenges handed on in this boot camp - I assure you they will be something everyone can do - BUT you must complete them or you will be given a fine. I will allow enough time for each of us to read about and complete the challenges.

I will not PM you or post any reminders to anyone about these rules - it is up to you to keep track of how often you are posting and such. I will be keeping track, but only so I know if any penalty fines need to be given out. Each of my post to boot camp in general will always be in red text - so you need to watch for any posts from me in red

If you "mess up" and are willing to pay the penalty fine you can stay in boot camp.
The penalty fine is HARD but nothing none of us can't do. I mean like you don't have to run 10 miles or anything lol.

The penalty fines will one of the following:

1. you must increase your water intake by 32 ozs more daily for 3 days
2. you must increase your daily exercise by an additional 15 minutes for 3 days
3. you must eat 3 servings of vegs and 2 of fruit daily ( unless you already do this ) for 3 days
4. you must plan all your meals for 3 days and stick to that plan ( unless you already do that )
5. you must keep and post a journal of everything you eat/drink for 3 days and tells us why you made those choices with a no excuse attitude.
6. For those of you who do all of these things, you can make a plenty that suits you best. You must post it and have at least one person approve of it. Just to make if fair. Dont want it to be to easy.

You will be allowed to chose your own penalty fine - keep in mind, the fines are to HELP you in this challenge, not to punish you. You will as always be on your honor to this challenge thread.

If you fail at the penalty fine - you are out of boot camp ( for this time ).
- You are only allowed 2 penalty fine ! (YOu do not have to take both) This is a change.
*****Clarifying, if you miss your goals for the week, that is considered 1 whole fine, not each goal as an individual. This helps those who set goals to only accomplish certain things weekly instead of daily. If you miss your daily goal more then once though then you get only one mistake*********

The whole idea of this challenge is to teach us keep our commitments to ourselves and develop a no excuse attitude and lifestyle.

If you make it through boot camp, you get a certificate stating something like "I graduated from DT healthy living boot camp" - and a secret "prize" to be emailed to those who are OK with giving out their email address ( its OK if you don't want to ).

Ok, that is the general idea ...

( my drill Sargent look lol )
Personal Note* ........Please note this is YOUR boot camp - I will do my very best to "led" and encourage each of you, BUT I can not do this alone ! I just like each of you have a separate life away from DT, and have family, work and such to tend to.
If you come on here and see that someone is having a rough go of it - don't assume that I or someone else will support/help them - take 2 minutes and post to your boot camp team member - show them you care.
I will be real blunt with you. I have been a part of many challenges here at DT and have seen the lack of this really hurt peoples feelings. You will not be given a penalty fine, as I won't try to force someone to be caring, but I am asking each of you to be aware of someone in need and to reach out to them.

SO if you have not yet posted your goals - get in here and POST them - goals MUST be posted by June 25th or before I sign in on June 26th and I cant guarntee a time for that so be aware. lol.

For anyone not sure - yes this is the offical Boot Camp thread and sign up page

Ok, I went through and changed dates, updated a few things. Is there any other changes people would like. I was thinking since this is a longer challenge and we have a holiday in there for some of us. Would you like to be able to get to 2penalities. Just a suggestion.

Mel

I'm in - I'm in! I've really missed Boot Camp and this can't come at a better time! I think I'm up about 10 lbs. from where I was before. :help:

Would you like to be able to get to penalities.

Did you mean two (2) penalties? Not me, but I'll leave it up to the majority.

smallfri
06-23-07, 09:15 PM
Thanks again Mel, I just thought because of the extra week, and the holiday, I wanted to make sure people have a fighting chance. You dont have to take 2 penalities if you dont want it.

I truly intend to make the most out of this challenge. I hope we get a few more people! I was NOT PLEASED at all with my weight this morning, but then I didn't think I would be. I could tell a change in my clothing in the last 2 weeks. :help: I will probably have quite a big loss this first week, but simply because I put so much on so quickly. It wasn't a pretty sight. :sigh:

My husband is off today and I don't work till tonight, so I just asked him if he wanted to go for a walk with me. So that should get me my exercise for the day. I am planning to go 3 miles. I'll post my specific goals for this challenge later today.

1. To count my points a minimum of 3 days a week.
2. To have no more then 1 soda a week.
3. To exercise at least 15 minutes a day.
4. To drink water.

Ok, well, these goals work well for me.

Hi, is it too late to join in? I think joining a challenge would really help me get back on track this summer.

smallfri
06-25-07, 10:46 PM
Nope, just make sure you post your goals by tomorrow.

Mel
06-26-07, 12:47 AM
I guess my goals are gonna be about the same as they were in the other Boot Camps, but with one change in my exercise.

1. I get 20 pts. per day. I will eat at 20 pts. or below every day. If I go over that amount, it will be because I'm using any activity points that I've earned. I will not use any flex points whatsoever.

2. I will drink at least 100 oz. of liquid per day.

3. I will exercise 6 days per week for a minimum of 30 min. each day. I would like for it to be more like 45-60 min. per day and probably will be most days. But 30 min. are for days when I have an unusually long work day.

4. Will take vitamins and medication every day.

5. Will track all food at WW's and Fitday.

My brain is kind of fried right now, so I may edit these tomorrow morning. Can I still do that tomorrow or is that too late? At best, I would add something, not change what I've already posted. 8-|

Good Morning

1. Calories below 1700 and posted in Fitday with the exception of July3,4 and 13. Those days below 1900.
2. At least 200 minutes in cardio a week.
3. Weight train 2 times a week.
4. Take meds plus vitamins daily.
5. Water - drink at least 90 oz daily.

I think these goals are very doable for me. I made the exception for a couple of days because of things going on.

Have a great day!
Renee:)

Private Eball reporting her goals before Smallfri logs in:
1. Average of 7 hours of exercise a week
2. Stay with the eating plan
3. Take all vitamins
4. Drink minimum of 65 ounces of fluid daily
5. Post on this thread - when in town - at least 5 times per week, to encourage my fellow boot campers.

I have more of my own personal goals, but this will do for boot camp!

06-26-07, 10:18 AM
Here are my goals for the challenge.
My overall goal is to reintroduce healthy habits into my lifestyle. To do this I will:

1. I will do a full yoga sequence at least 4 days a week.
2. I will walk at least 5 days a week, each walk will be a minimum of 45 mins.
3. I will drink at 96 ounces of water everyday, including weekends.
4. I will post everything I eat at Fitday every day. I will try to stay under 1800 everyday.

I really need to get back into these habits. If I only have to answer to myself, I don't do well some days. Here is to my need to stay motivated.

I really started this yesterday, as my mind is always in that diet mentality that I have to start on Monday. And my weight was much worse on Monday morning than it was this morning - must have been a lot of water weight. Cause I was 153 yesterday morning and this morning I was 148.50. And i have an extremely reliable scale, so it wasn't the scale mis-firing. I just about fell off the scale when I saw a number over 150! I was hoping to never see that number again! So needless to say, I was happy to be back down into the 140's today! I can't believe I said that, cause I prefer to be in the 130's - so I have my work cut out for me the next couple of weeks. I would like to break 140 by the end of this challenge, but I don't know if that will happen. Would be nice. I guess I'm gonna make that one of my secret goals, I won't put it on my list. I just want to stick to my plan and I'll take what I get.

I had another good day, thank goodness. I walked about 3 1/2 miles at the mall this morning. I ate well and drank my required water. So that's 2 days in a row. But who's counting??? :D Seriously, I've just got to take it one day at a time.

Five of us in boot camp this go round... super... small groups are good. I had a good day... got exercise in and stayed with my eating plan... getting my last bit of water in now. Of course, that means I will be up 3 times tonight to pee! UGh. Need to plan my meals for tomorrow. I do so much better when I plan them out. Intend to get up early again tomorrow and walk... hopefully, it won't be as humid as it was today.

Mel
06-28-07, 01:06 AM
I'm hoping to walk tomorrow morning too! I did this morning and the humidity was terrible. About 3 blocks from home, it started spitting rain. It felt really good! Then the last block it started raining a lot harder, so I had to hustle home. I did really well with everything today - food, water and exercise. I had to run to the bathroom numerous times at work, lol.

I was surprised to find there were only five of us this time, but it could work out well anyway. And I'm glad Smallfri is running it - to tell you the truth, Beth wasn't really into it at all and therefore her participation was minimal. I figure it'll be better with the new drill sargeant. :mus:

Well, even though it's late, I'm gonna have some pudding. I've figured it in at Fitday and WW's and I have plenty of points for it. I'd like to have two containers of it, but I guess I'll settle for one. 8-|

06-28-07, 09:27 AM
Thanks Mel, I will try my hardest. I just need to get things together. I am actually not surprised by the small group because its summer and the boards are so slow. SLOW, but usually are this time of year.

The past two days haven't been too bad. I did yoga today, which makes the second time this week. And I have been walking was well. It is my time to unwind from the day. I drank 96 oz of water as well and posted everything in fitday. I didn't, how ever, stay under 1800 calories. Today is a new day and I am starting to feel better in general with my exercise and diet.

Private Eball reporting in:
Having a great day. Walked 4 miles early this morning. Was home by 7 a.m. Got in the pool after that and just sort of goofed off... it's what I am best at, actually! Had a huge salad for lunch with smoked turkey on top... weighed out my 3.5 ounces of turkey... yippee. Currently have a terriaki pork tenderloin in the crockpot, so will be having that with stewed okra and green beans tonight. Got the meals handled, did most of my exercising already today.. but will try to sneak in a bit more.. maybe tonight in the pool. Talked to my youngest son in military - online - this afternoon. He went on a 12 mile march/run today carrying a 35 pound pack. I told him about our boot camp here on dt. He said he would like to set his own goals too! LOL

Mel
06-29-07, 12:53 AM
Okay, Day 4 done. I know it's only Day 3 of Boot Camp, but I started early, lol. I did good again today! :dc I walked 5 miles this morning - it was great walking weather. Probably about 65 degrees, overcast and a little windy. It felt great - much better than the humidity yesterday. I worked this afternoon and tonight, so I only ate the Kashi dinner I took with to put in the microwave. Drank lots too. I logged it all at Fitday and WW's, so my goals for the day are done. :mus:

Alright, I think we are off ot a good start. The first week always seems the easiest doesnt it. It gets harder towards the end for some silly reason.

1. To count my points a minimum of 3 days a week. 2/3
2. To have no more then 1 soda a week. 0/1
3. To exercise at least 15 minutes a day. 3/7
4. To drink water. 3/7

I didnt track my points yesterday, I jsut forgot. lol. I did eat to much but I am going to get with it today. We are going to the zoo so that will be a nice walk.

Dang how dum am I. I had a root beer float. lol. Duh, soda, oh well, I had my one for the week.

Mel
07-01-07, 12:25 AM
Wow, I don't believe I didn't get here yesterday at all. I got called in to work yesterday afternoon and ended up working till close. Plus I was already scheduled to open this morning and work till 5pm. So needless to say, I'm tired. But I'm off tomorrow! ALL DAY. :) Anyhow, working is usually good for my diet. I don't have much time to eat and I don't take snacks. I usually take a WW's dinner to stick in the microwave or I go to Subway if I can leave the store. So anyway, I've been doing good! Lots to drink, lots of walking and little to eat. It's hard to believe the week has gone by so fast.

Smallfri - a root beer float? I LOVE THOSE. So does my grandson Alex. When I go to pick them up to come to my house (they live 2 hrs. away) there is an A&W restaurant about 1/2 way. He loves to try to get me to stop for a float. Or at the DQ, lol. He's a bad influence! Cause he's hard to resist. :help:

eball - sounds like you're doing great with your walking! I love to walk and those long walks really take the weight off, don't they? But I don't have a pool to jump in when I get home. Lucky you!

Hey runt - how are things going? Is that a picture of your baby in you avatar? Boy or girl? And how old? Hope your diet is going well!

Renee - how are you feeling? Sleep does work wonders, doesn't it! Good for you for getting your exercise in! I'm working on that secret goal! :secret:

That's it for now - as soon as my dryer goes off one more time, I'm off to bed.

Goodnight, JohnBoy. :)

Since it is Saturday, I am counting this as the end of my week. Here is my tally for the week.

1. I will do a full yoga sequence at least 4 days a week- 4 out of 4
2. I will walk at least 5 days a week, each walk will be a minimum of 45 mins. 5 out of 5
3. I will drink at 96 ounces of water everyday, including weekends. 7 out of 7
4. I will post everything I eat at Fitday every day. I will try to stay under 1800 everyday. Posted 7 out of 7 but only under 1800 for one day.
I am getting frustrated with that. Probably more than I should be. Living with friends makes it hard though. It has been an interesting two week with the birth of my only niece. And the babies I take care of have been sick and teething at the same time. Just a long week all around.

Good morning Boot Campers. Its a new week... to make good choices, get exercise in... and feel GOOD ABOUT OURSELVES. Fresh starts are always wonderful.
Feel good today... I am being lazy right now.. still sitting around in my jammies drinking coffee. Planning on using the elliptical today. WE have comp coming over tonight, but I will have a plan by then about the food and how not to go CRAZY.. working on the plan... working.... still don't have it... but I will.

I am up 3lbs this week. All from this stupid weekend. Alright enough feeling sorry for myself, time to get with it.

Mel
07-02-07, 10:48 AM
Woohoo! Can you say 'water weight'? :D After eating so bad for a while, my weight last Monday was 153. I was shocked. By Tuesday, it was down to 148.50. So I was really happy with that and used that as my starting weight for Boot Camp. I was really happy to see another 5 lbs. gone when I weighed in this morning. That was 9.50 lbs. gone from Monday to Monday! It was nice to see the drastic change, even though most of it had to be water weight. I'm hoping to lose at least 2 lbs. this week. I'd be thrilled with that amount.

Mel
07-02-07, 10:52 AM
Smallfri - what's so evil about the weekends? You do good all week and then when you work, you fall apart? How come? Do they keep lots of goodies around? Or is it so stressful you end up snacking? Or do you not plan well for the weekends? From things you've said on the WW's thread, you pretty much PLAN to fall apart on the weekends. How come?

Good job on the loss, Renee!

smallfri
07-02-07, 11:08 AM
I dont know what my problem is at work, there are no snacks around but I walk so much I get hungry, and there is alot of movements and I just need to eat or I start to get sick. And I cant always eat when I need to eat, which sucks and then I just grab whatever food they have to eat, and its always not the best. I have tried packing my own lunch but where I have to keep it, isnt always convient either. I saw this cooler at Kohl's I might go and get and then I can keep it in the office so I can grab snacks when I need it. IT can hold 12 cans of soda so there should be no reason it cant hold lunch for a 12 hour day.
Work is also stressful.

Great job mel, yes on to week to.

I have a bit of real life compation going on right now. My friend joined the biggest loser at her work, and well, lets just say its on. lol. She is 20 lbs heavier then me right now. But I always tell her she has to subtract 20 lbs off her weight just to compensate for her huge chest. lol. She gets mad at me. lol. I just laugh. Ok anyway. So now its on. Cant let her be the only skinny one.

Thats great Small! Real life competition!
How is everybody doing? I got my walk in before 5 this morning! Yahoo... its out of the way and I don't have to worry about it. The sun is shining right now. WE have had so much rain and flooding. The gal that teaches my nutrition class wasn't there last night. Found out that yesterday morning... in a big sheet of rain...She lost control of her car, hydro-planed, smashed into a concrete ramp, airbag deployed... she is in the hospital... I don't know how bad. She is a teeny weeny little thing. This happened at rush hour and no one else hit her! Her car spun around and ended up facing the oncoming traffic. She is really in my thoughts right now as I assume she is awake now and feeling pretty bad.

With it being Tuesday, here is my count for the week.
Yoga-1/4
Walking-1/7 (will be 2/7 this evening)
Water- 3/7
Tracking-3/7 (under 1800-0/7 but staying closer)
At least with the tracking I know I get myself into trouble at dinner. I just need to eat smaller portions then.

07-03-07, 09:36 PM
runt and eball - did you guys realize you missed weigh-in yesterday??? 8-|

My husband and I walked 3 miles before dinner tonight. I've eaten well today and am planning to have some fruit later on for my snack. Should be a good day. The day so far is logged at Fitday and WW's. :)

Mel
07-03-07, 10:44 PM
Sure - but to be 'in charge' people have to weigh-in, lol.

I'm gonna start a chart - I'll post it tomorrow.

Mel
07-03-07, 11:59 PM
I swear, I've tried to post that stupid chart 3 times now and have deleted it 3 times. X-( It doesn't post the way I put it in. (if that makes any sense) It looks all nice and organized and then when it actually posts, nothing is where I put it. X-(

Can you say frustrated??? I'll have my husband tell me what's wrong with it in the morning. 8-|

Good Morning

I'm meeting my daily/weekly goals but I don't know for how much longer. Just found out we are moving again. The next few weeks are going to be incredibley busy. I've got to arrange the pack out, the shipment of the car. Then I get to pack out alone since hubby leaves Sunday for at least 2 weeks. But I'm determined not to gain weight with the move! saw the doctor again monday. He says the swelling is caused by Arthritis. He put me on an antiflammory and told me no pounding exercise for 3 weeks.

Mel, I find when I try and copy a chart over, that it gets all
scrambled up.

Have a great day!

Renee - where are you moving to??? Still in Spain? That's not fair to have you move and then put hubby out of town so you have to do everything yourself! And yes, my chart was a jumbled mess when I tried to copy and paste it. But then I tried to just do the whole thing right here on DT. And when I posted it, it was still all jumbled up.

Sorry guys, I didn't get the chart posted yesterday. It just messed up again and I was a little peeved with my husband yesterday, so I didn't want to ask him to help me, lol. I'll get it done somehow. 8-|

I walked 3 miles yesterday and 3 more this morning. Food and water are going well. My daughter and I are going to the WW's meeting in the morning. My daughter has been counting her points very carefully (which surprised me!) but she hasn't exercised at all. I hope she loses SOMETHING so that she doesn't get discouraged.

I'm working an odd schedule today, so I'd best get moving. Got some errands done this morning too. :) Did everyone have a good 4th???

Where is everybody? I am getting awfully lonely in here!!! Went to the gym today, Sunday, and got a good workout in. Don't normally go on Sundays, so it was nice! My week is off to a good start. So far.... eating is on track today. We have a guest staying with us for a few days, but I am hopeful all will be well. Made some Rice Crispies Treats for him as I know he loves those silly things! Must admit I had a bite! lol
Got on the elliptical last night and went 5 miles in 45 min... in the past, I have done 5 miles, but it took me right at 50 min, so I was very pleased with that. I had my heart monitor on and was pretty much in my target zone the entire time. Once, on purpose, I took it up to my A.T., just because.... I held it there for 90 seconds and then brought it back down to zone 2. I am hoping to do the same thing tonight... we'll see!

I am going to have to drop out of this challenge. I just don't have the time to post as much as I would like right now. Too many things going on in life right now. Sorry.

I'm sooo proud of you eball - the first one! :D Usually smallfri is the early poster. It was my weekend to cover the store, so I was really pooped and slept in a little this morning. :)

I was rather disappointed with my weigh-in. I had been down a pound like on Thursday or Friday, but I think my weird eating schedule over the weekend did me in. I don't eat much at work and then when I get home, I need to eat something and it's usually dinner or a decent snack. And it's really to late to eat that much. I didn't go over my points, just not what my body is used to. I always have a snack in the evening, but it's usually something small. So I'm guessing that was my problem. But regardless, it was disappointing. But I'll get 'em next week!

Congratulations, eball! You did great!

We haven't heard from Renee lately - I hope everything is okay!

Thanks Mel... Ok folks.... its summer.. I know we are all busy.... well, everybody except me maybe! Just remember that it is JUST AS EASY TO MAKE GOOD FOOD CHOICES AS IT IS BAD FOOD CHOICES. Unfortunately, we all tend to gravitate towards the food that we are used to and that is usually NOT the healthy type stuff, but the old comfort type food stuff. Just try to make a conscious effort to make better choices. On days when you are really stressed from .. LIFE.... don't worry about the exercise... concentrate on only one thing... good food choices.

Mel

I agree, eball. There are days when life is really hectic and stressful. In the next month, my grandsons are staying two different times. And it will be ultra hectic trying to coordinate everyone's work schedule to make sure someone is here at all times. Plus we like to take them lots of fun places while they're here and therefore I tend to make BAD choices. So many times, exercise goes by the wayside while they're here. And I tend to just 'eat along' with everyone else. I just need to keep in mind that I need to make GOOD food choices and I'll be okay. We're usually on the go most of the time while they're here, so we're not just sitting here like slugs. Good food choices will take me a long way. It will also keep me from moaning and groaning about my weight after they leave, lol.

I've been around quite a bit lately. But if no one else posts, I tend not to either, lol. I lurk a lot.

Good Morning

As I had predicted I'm out of the challenge. My hubby got orders and we are moving again. This time to Naples, Italy. And it is a short notice. We are suppose to be there August 6. OF course, my hubby is already in Naples so most of the responbility falls on me. I'm trying to get our Italian visas and that is a long process. I have an appointment this week to arrange for our household goods to be packed up and shipped, the same with the truck. I have appointments this week at the hospital to arrange transfer of records, son's allergy serum, etc. But I am going to somehow fit in some exercise, otherwise I will go nuts.

Renee

Oh wow! That IS short notice! That is a lot of work to fall on you. So what do you think? Is moving to Italy a good thing or a bad thing?

Sorry you're out of the challenge, take care and good luck with the move.

And then there were three.........

So is this challenge pretty much done? Doesn't look like there's much interest anymore. :(

07-18-07, 07:28 AM
I'm here! But i know what you mean... it seems that the interest is gone... any ideas on how to rev us up again? I am taking clases and doing additional workouts, so I have my time in, but I must admit that I just don't think about boot camp anymore. What can we do to get us going again?

Mel

I don't know. I guess more people would be a good place to start, but DT is really dead this time of year.

Hi

Well, the movers and come and gone. I have very little personal belongings until we get to Naples. For a few weeks my healthy eating and exercise went by the wayside. Lack of time, motivation derailed me. But I'm back and I'm feeling stronger. My treadmill has been packed and is gone so I'm going to the gym this afternoon. It is way to hot to think about walking outside - the high today is 99. For me that is even too hot to go to the beach. We are waiting on our passports and visas. Don't know how long it will be.

Hopefully, things will pick up here soon. Hope everyone is doing good and metting there goals.

Renee:)
