WELCOME TO BOOT CAMP!

This Boot Camp will start on February 25th and end on March 9th. Your last weigh-in will be posted on Monday, March 10th. That is a total of 14 days. This is a 'no excuse' challenge. It doesn't matter what happens in your life during these 14 days, we are making a commitment and we need to stick to it! It doesn't matter if you're having your period and you're bloated. You still need to stick to your plan and exercise in accordance with your posted goals. If your weight is up because of your period, so be it, so long as you stuck to your goals. We don't court marshall you for a gain so long as you're sticking to the rules of the challenge.

You need to set your own goals. Your food plan should be something that you follow EVERY day of the challenge. Your exercise can be whatever you want and however many days per week you want - with one exception. You need to exercise a minimum of 3 days per week. It doesn't have to be for 2 hrs. a day, so long as it is planned exercise. If you want to walk 15 min. per day/3 days per week and you state that as your goal, that's fine. But then you need to do it. But if in your goals you state that you're going to exercise 1 hour per day/5 days per week, you can't exercise 30 min. one of those days and count it!

You should list at least 3 goals for the challenge. You can have more than that if you want. Now........no one is perfect. You will be allowed one slip-up during the 14 days. If you mess up even one of your goals, you'll need to take a penalty if you want to remain in the challenge. If you mess up a second time, you're out of the challenge. Here are the penalties - you can choose which one you want to take. You must state which one you're doing and report on it EACH DAY for the following 3 days.

PENALTIES:

1. You must increase your water intake by 32 ozs. more per day for the next three days.

2. You must increase your exercise by an additional 15 minutes for the next three days.

3. You must keep and post a journal of everything you eat/drink for the next three days.

If you do get booted out of the challenge, please don't think we're gonna be mad at you or think bad of you or anything like that. If you get booted, you'll be MORE THAN WELCOME to join the next Boot Camp if there is another one. You can also come and post whenever you want if you feel like it.

This thread is open to posting now. If you know what your goals are going to be, feel free to post them anytime. You have the right to edit your goals through Sunday night. Monday morning is too late.

Also, I reserve the right to edit this post, lol. I might have forgotten something - it's getting rather late and I'm tired. Also, any questions can be posted here. Or any suggestions can be made. Smallfri - feel free to add anything that I might have forgotten.

Okay, I'm editing back in already, as I realize I forgot something.

One of your goals should be that you will following your eating plan every day of the week. If you mess up on Wednesday, you need to take a penalty for the next three days. If you mess up on Wednesday AND Thursday, you don't wait until Monday and then say 'oh, I messed up my goal of eating 'on plan' for the week, I need to take a penalty'. No - that's 2 slip-ups and you're out of the challenge. Not following your food plan on Wednesday is one slip-up and warrants a penalty. Thursday is a second slip-up, so that would put you out of the challenge. I hope this makes sense.

Obviously, I copied and pasted this from the last challenge. I think I changed all the dates and stuff, but i'm not sure. The rules have not changed. Is there anything anyone would like to see added? Please feel free to make suggestions.

Well, I am going to give this a shot this time.

Goals:
1. exercise 4 days a week
2. drink 2 bottles of water daily
3. keep calories below 1700

Does this work for the challenge?

BTW, Mel, in your 3rd paragraph you talk about us being allowed 1 slip up in 21 days, this is probably supposed to be 14 days. I understand you copy/pasted and it was late so just thought I would mention it.

Hoping I don't have to do a penalty, lol.

Mel
02-23-08, 12:08 AM
Thanks Nancy, I didn't catch that one! And yes, those goals will work very nicely. They should be something to challenge you a little, but they shouldn't be so tough that you set yourself up to fail. And of course, that differs for each person. I hope you don't have to take a penalty either! :D

02-24-08, 01:30 PM
I sat down and decided on my goals. I also looked at my schedule and know that I will be busy. Because of that I changed the goals a little. Instead of just using fitday I will use my food and exercise journal on those days I can't get on the computer. I may or may not be traveling some in the next 2 weeks. Also I changed my exercise goal to a certain amount of minutes per week instead of days.

1. Calories under 1800.
2. Record eating either in fitday or in food journal.
3. Get at least 270 minutes of exercise per week.
4. Drink 88 oz water daily.

Have a great day!

Mel
02-24-08, 09:06 PM
My goals:

1. Stay 'on plan' every day of Boot Camp.

2. Exercise 5 days per week.

3. Track my food at Fitday every day.

4. Have at least 20 gms. of fiber every day.

5. Drink a minimum of 100 oz. of liquid per day.

The only things I changed from last Boot Camp is that I upped my exercise and my liquids. I stay on plan easier if I exercise. The only reason I didn't put 7 days per week for exercise is that some days my work schedule makes it extremely tough and I don't have my work schedule past the end of the month right now. I should be getting it soon. But I'm comfortable with those goals.

1. Exercise at least 4 days a week.
2. Drink minimum 80 oz. of liquids a day. May allow myself 1-2 sodas per week, if desired.
3. Eat 5 smaller meals each day, maintain good portion control.

I definately got my liquids in, my eating was under control. No exercise (bad storm warning in effect - still need a plan for at-home exercise). Do plan on going tonight.

So Julie - how do you like what we're getting??? It looks like a winter wonderland out there, doesn't it??? We have a good 6 inches on the ground again and it's hanging from the trees. Good grief, when is this gonna end? I'm certainly glad we went to Chicago yesterday and weren't planning on today! I'M SICK OF THIS!

Eating went okay yesterday and I got plenty of exercise. My daughter and I walked everywhere we went in Chicago yesterday. And it was at a great pace too. I logged everything at Fitday as best I could and so I would consider the first day successful. Although hopefully today will be better with the food. I don't know if I'll get to the gym today or not - I may have to do something at home.

Well, First Step never showed up for BootCamp. Didn't post goals or weigh-in. And catnas posted goals, but didn't weigh-in. So I'm not sure what happened with either of them. Both did extremely well in the last BootCamp.

Yeah, I am done with this winter. So very done. While it is pretty to look at, not so much for driving in when they don't plow your subdivision!

I am having a good eating day, just not a good day in general. I have such a migraine. I just need to go home and go to bed. However, we are short 2 people here at work (need to hire replacements), so I am stuck working longer days. Heck, I start at 5:30 a.m. Yesterday I worked until 4:15. I am tired.

Well..............since you don't have a scale, Cathy, I'd say it's kind of tough to weigh in. But you did screw up with the food yesterday, so I'd say you need to take a penalty. You're kind of gonna be 'under the gun', cause Camp just started. One more and you're out! :help: But you did great with the last challenge, so I'm not worried. :)

Cori - I'm glad you remembered the challenge and stopped short with the eating! One more bite of something and it could have put you over the top, lol.

Smallfri - sorry you're not joining us, but it's tough when you're not feeling up to par. Hope you're feeling back to normal soon!

Sounds like everyone is off to a great start!

Everyone is off to a great start. It is wonderful Corinna that boot Camp kept you on track WTG

Smallfri and Cathy - I hope you both get feeling better.

I too like 14 days. For me it is more achievable. Still doesn't mean I will make it, but I will certainly try.

I exercised during the last hour of biggest Loser 5 - I alternated between the stationary bike (48 min)and the Lateral Thigh Stepper (12) min and finished with 5 min of stretching.

2. Calorie Range is 1200 to 1500 - 1363

2. Exercise 5 days per week. 2/7

3. Track my food at Fitday every day. 3/7

4. Have at least 20 gms. of fiber every day. 3/7

5. Drink a minimum of 100 oz. of liquid per day. 3/7

I'm still working on that last goal for today, but I WILL make it. I went to the gym this morning and my food went really well today. I'll post my totals later on.

Okay, I'm back. I had 950 calories, 17 pts. and 29 gms. of fiber. I just finished my last bottle of water, so I'm good. Everything is tracked at Fitday, so all is well in BootCamp land.

I've really been feeling like a slug of late so I've REALLY had to push myself the last few days. I think I have too much time on my hands and that's not a good thing for me. I tend just to piss away a lot of time when I don't have planned things to do. My work schedule needs to pick up! Of course, then I'll probably be *****ing about it, but I need to be busier. Oh well. 8-|

Doing well here. Having a difficult time at work, so I am very stressed.
I went to the gym after work and only walked for 30 minutes. I started off at a good pace, however, I had to slow down around the 20 minute mark.
I think I like the recumbent bike better. Is there much difference between walking on the treadmill and biking? Please, let me know your thoughts.
I can tell my eating habits have changed. DH & I will make dinner and then split the meat in half. Before we each would take a full steak/chicken breast/etc. Now we split it and we are both full after dinner. And, we are eating more veggies. Yeah!

I will be away for the weekend and not sure if I will be ab le to post here or not. I will still be doing my Fitday as I have the bought program and I will be taking my lap top with me.

Have a great weekend everyone and DON'T FORGET TO EXERCISE!!!

LadyWendy
02-29-08, 01:02 PM
Pouncer Mom, the treadmill and the bike both work legs muscles and both burn calories. They will vary slightly in which muscles they burn so I think its good to mix them up. '

In my opinion I don't think of one exercise as better than the other. I think that as long as you are doing something you like and you try to mix things us a bit and you have fun doing what you are doing, than that is the best course of exercise. And that is what you will stick with. Moving in any way shape or form is much better than doing nothing. Just living an active life style will eventually lead to big changes.
If you hate what you are doing or do the same thing over and over, that is when you will stop moving.

Oh, of course I remember 'Nip'!!!

When I posted here last night, I was really brief and to the point. It was late, I'd worked last night and was talking to my son while I was posting. But I had spent the afternoon at the hospital with my mother-in-law. She was brought in by ambulance in the early hours of the morning, unable to walk or stand. Today I got there about noon and came home around 6:30 tonight. I wanted to be there when the neuro surgeon came with the results of her MRI and then he ordered ultrasounds of her legs so I ended up staying for that. As soon as she got back to her room they delivered her dinner, so I stayed and fed her. It was a long afternoon. Not that I minded doing it, but hospitals are so draining. And for a good part of the afternoon, she thought she was at home. She is on morphine, so she's kind of hallucinating. So that was a real dance, trying to reply and not make her feel stupid or uncomfortable. One minute she was 'there' and the next she wasn't. Just exhausting.

I didn't exercise today, but the food went fine. This is my second day this week not exercising, so I can't take another day off. I work tomorrow, so I'm gonna have to figure something out. We'll see.

I know it's early, but I think I'm gonna head for bed.

1. Stay 'on plan' every day of Boot Camp. 5/5

2. Exercise 5 days per week. 3/5

3. Track my food at Fitday every day. 5/5

Hi Wendy! Sorry, I've been really busy between working and my mil. I'm gonna have to take a penalty cause I worked yesterday and then went to the hospital. So I didn't exercise AGAIN yesterday. That's the whole part of this that I just can't seem to 'get together' this time. X-( I'm gonna have to be really careful today with my food cause all the girls from work are going out for pizza tonight. We won a contest before Christmas and we're taking our winnings and going out for pizza. Can you tell the prize wasn't much?? It'll be enough for 7 of us to go out. 8-| Oh well, it will be nice anyway. But I usually do fairly good on Sunday with my food, so I don't think A LITTLE pizza will kill me. But tomorrow morning is weigh-in, so I'll have to keep that in mind.

Well, it's time for church, I guess we're off. Talk to you all later.

REMINDER - TOMORROW is weigh-in. Everyone must post their weight ON THE WEIGH-IN THREAD, NOT HERE.

Okay, I'm drinking extra water for my penalty and I did that today. I didn't exercise again today. We went to church, had lunch, went to the hospital and then I went to my pizza outing. I did pretty good considering the pizza was delicious. Very good. Thank goodness I'd had a small breakfast and lunch. Plus I had ice tea w/sweetner to drink so I did okay. I'm tired and I'm going to bed soon.

Hello Fellow Bootcampers!

I am sorry to say but I am taking myself out of this Challenge, Before I get booted out! Well I got my new Scale on Staurday night & I did not like what it said *185lbs* Grrrrr!! So I ate bad on Sunday, Ya think I would have be more motivated to do better but no I did worse! So I decided to just take myself out of this Challenge & just focus on the 21 Day Challenge's I have to myself in my Journal. I WILL GET THIS XTRA WEIGHT OFF ME!!! I think I do better when I dont have soo much going on & I think I over did it joining soo many challenges.

I will not Hide away I will just focus on getting this weigh off...Trust me I did I thought about not comming back for awhile but I refuse to do that, I need everyone here at DT to help me in my weight loss.

Good Luck to You All!!!

I will be back here to check in on how everyone is doing.

Hugs,

Cathy

I understand where you're coming from, Cathy. I tend to do crappy when I join challenges, lol. So go figure, I started this! I'm not quite sure why - I always think I'll do good and it will motivate me, but I tend not to do good.

I intend to lose this 10 lbs., but we'll see how I do this week. I did good with my food for the most part this past week. Stayed within my points, but could have made better choices as to what I ate. And of course, I didn't exercise nearly as much as I should have.

This morning my daughter and I went out for breakfast and I had eggbeaters w/mushroom and onion and then wheat toast. Black coffee. Then she headed for work and I went to the gym. I walked on the treadmill for 45 min. at a 4.2 mph pace. Then I did a some weights. Probably for about 20 min., as I'm just starting out. Did mostly arm things and didn't want to be uberly sore tomorrow. But I need to get my arms in shape for the strapless dress I'm wearing for my daughter's wedding.

Okay, need to get some things done around here this morning, as I work tonight. I also need to color my hair!

Sorry I wasn't around much last week. Hubby was admitted into the hospital last Monday and was there all week. to make matters worse it was an italian hospital.
How I did last week:
1. Calories under 1800. 7/7
2. Record eating either in fitday or in food journal. 7/7 (used both fitday and journal)
3. Get at least 270 minutes of exercise per week. 335/270
4. Drink 88 oz water daily. 7/7

The exercise really helped me with the stress. I almost skipped my session with the trainer on Wednesday but decided the exercise would make me feel better. I was hurting so bad and so sweaty afterwards that I forgot my troubles for a while. But the exercise did keep me sane! I didn't have much of an appetite either, after the initial stress eating I calmed down and hide the junk. Drank alot of water - kept a bottle in the car for the long drive to and from the hospital.

Anyways, I still managed to lose some weight. This week should be calmer I hope.

have a great day!

I did quite well today too. I worked tonight, so not a lot of time to snack, thank goodness. I did drink the extra for my penalty, so all is well here.

Renee - sounds like you did great! Way to go for not giving into the stress. Hope hubby is feeling better!

I'm off to bed. I-)

I haven't been eating well at all. Nor exercising. I planned on going yesterday, had my stuff packed and looking forward to it. Until I got a call from my husband saying we need to take the car in asap. So, I skipped the gym to do that.
Tonight I can't go as we have a meeting in our home at 4 with the Army recruiter (DH is trying to go back into the Army). So, I can't go tonight.
I wish everyone much success in this week!

Thanks Mel, hubby is doing ok. They still aren't sure what the problem is and are experimenting with his bp med to see if that is the problem.

I did cardio, weights and yoga yesterday. Tons of squats and lunges and am feeling it. My body is groaning in protest.

Good luck everyone:)

Mel
03-04-08, 05:54 PM
I hear ya, Renee. Those squats and lunges can really kill you. Especially when you're not 20 anymore, lol.

I'm not sure what's going on with Cori - she didn't post a weigh-in yesterday. I would say she was out of Boot Camp, but she hasn't posted anywhere for a few days, so that has me a little worried. She's always around SOMEWHERE and so I hesitate to say she's out since I'm not sure what's going on. So that leaves me, Cori, Renee and Wendy left at Camp.

Actually, after I posted this, I had another snack which upped my fiber to 45gms.! I had lots of water for the day too, but wow, I hope it's enough for all that fiber or i'm gonna be one miserable puppy!

WTG Smallfri :cheer:

Went to Tops tonight and I'm down 2 pounds from last Wed. We had elections tonight and I'm happy to say that enough people stepped up to the plate to take a postion. For the past year is was Marg and Leader and me as Co-Leader that were pretty much doing everything - our Chapter was in Danger of folding. Marg said she would not let it fold and that her and I could continue to do everything. I told her I needed a break and I would hold a postion and if others didn't step up to hold the rest I was Transferring to a new Chapter. But low and behold some people actually took some postions. I am still on the executive but now as Treasurer :)

Wed March 5th

I was happy with my day yesterday. I had 1029 calories and 36 gms. of fiber. I drank all my water and my penalty is done. I also went to the gym in the morning. I walked on the treadmill for 30 min. and then did weights for 30 min. The soreness is really creeping in from the weights. But I'm not dead, so I guess I'm okay.

Okay, we're finally caught up with the weigh-in. Here are the results:

Mel - 0
Cori - 4 lbs.
arfain - 3 lbs.
Wendy - 1.5

Lookin good, with Cori leading the pack!

Being sore can be such a nice feeling! :) I can't fathom eating that few calories everyday

Mel
03-06-08, 07:10 PM
I can only dream about eating the calories you do, lol. If I eat that many, even with exercising for an hour per day, I'll gain. Remember, I'm almost 54 yrs. old and only 5'2". Our age and height are very different, lol.

This level of soreness that I'm at is okay. It's not killing me, so it does feel kind of good. :)

Okay, that leaves Cori and Renee. It's weigh-in day tomorrow girls! Last day of Boot Camp.

I'm not starting another Boot Camp. If someone else would like to, feel free. I think I'm just gonna stick to journaling with Smallfri on the WW's board. It seems like whenever I join a Challenge, I'm all motivated at first and then I fold. I seem to do better on my own.

Good Morning

I managed to meet all of my daily and weekly goals. But just barely. The exercise and water has become second nature. But eating is much harder. I do record everthing I eat and I keep the calories in check but the type of food I'm eating is not healthy. I've been stressed and pick up junk before health. I do get in my daily allowance of fruits and veggies because it is habit but the rest lately seems to be alot of candy or empty calories. All the exercise isn't going to help unless I fuel my body correctly.

Enough whining. hope everyone had a good weekend.

Okay, lol, I guess I don't need to wait for everyone to weigh-in this week! It's just Renee left and she weighed already. She lost 3 lbs. for the two weeks of Boot Camp. Congratulations Renee - you're the only recruit left and you lost 3 lbs.! Good for you!
