View Full Version : Kactus' Goal: -50 pounds in time for Christmas in HAWAII
Yes. I now...finally, have my motivations that I have been lacking to lose weight successfully.
Motivation #1
Husband has lost about 30 pounds by just eating healthier (I gained 15 pounds by doing the same thing! 8-|). He has never ever dieted. I have been dieting for over 25 years! He just decides one day to cut back on the sugar and make healthier choices. It's like he's some super human weirdo that can set his mind to something and just do it without hardly a hitch! I cannot have a husband who is not fat...when I still am!!!
Motivation #2
I just found out that we are going to Hawaii for Christmas with my husband's entire family. And of course I am the only fat female besides his mom (which doesn't count because she's almost 70!).
I'm back on Jenny Craig as of Monday night. I've had a struggle with getting in the grove, but I am determined in a way that I've never been before.

Hey Cathy,
Thanks for visiting. You must be so proud of yourself for all the pounds you've dropped! I hope to meet you someday down there in the 150ties! It looks like you'll get there way ahead of me, but I'm hoping by Christmas to join ya!
I've tried in the past to make weight loss goals like, get to 195 by the end of March, kinda thing. I hardly ever made it. But I've never had the motivation to lose like I do now either.
My Plan, so far:
a. Follow the Jenny Craig eating plan as best as I can;
b. Take a walk outside at least 3 times a week;
c. Control your thoughts about food by doing something positive by yourself or with family or friends.
d. Find reminders of Hawaiian Vacation and place them around home.
Okay, that's it for now.
Wow Hawaii for Christmas that is just awesome!!! And yes, what a great motivator.
Some travel agencies might have some posters for hawaii. Find a nice picture for your desk top too. And most of all, keep coming to diettalk and sharing how you are doing.
In the challenge forum you will find a challenge about losing 50 pounds this year. Here is the link for that -

Just feel free to add your name and stats to the bottom of the list and then update as you need to.
Thanks, Nancy! It's nice to have so many positive people around!
Evenings are so hard for me. I'm just soooooo tired and seem to have this weird kinda nervous anxiety. Food usually calms me down and helps get me sleepy. Luckily tonight I've got some food leftover to eat just in case I want to snack a bit.
I just wish I could fall asleep without taking 2 dramamine every night. I've tried every now and again...then I always regret it. If I don't take them I'm up until 3...4...5am. Then I feel sick all day and sometimes end up with a migraine. It sucks.
On to more positive things...
Being 44 I don't know if I can look really great in a swim suit, but I want to look the best I can. First, I need to lose the weight. Second, I need to do some kind of toning exercise. Third, I need a tan BEFORE I get there so I don't scare anyone with my glaring whiteness.
I can't believe I'm being positive about diet and exercise....and wearing a swim suit!
Angel Eyes 03-06-08, 04:00 PM Hello and welcome. My hubby is the same way. He can diet and it not bother him but for me i struggle so bad. You have a good goal to aim for with Hawaii. How is the jenny craig program, is it costly?
well best wishes.
Kactus,
Yeah, I hear you on the evening eating bit. Lately I have a cup of tea, and some little snack, an apple, or tonight I am having some crackers with a bit of lite cheez whiz. It is alot of a mental thing as well as emotional. But with practise we can get better and better.
Isn't it a neat feeling to see yourself being positive about exercise and the possibilities ahead!!! Keep on going.
Oh, I wanted to add that the food in the evening might also be something that keeps you up so late.
Hey, Sandy!
I think it depends upon your income. A few years ago I couldn't have done it, but right now we're doing well, so, I can. I spend under $135 a week for 7 breakfasts, 7 lunches, 7 dinners, 7 snacks and 7 vitamin bars. 95% of the food is great. But the other 5% I don't order...it's probley a matter of personal preference. I really enjoy it because I don't have to weigh or measure or count points. I have problems with depression and dieting is a huge trigger for me. So, the less I have to think about food the happier I am.
Hey, Nancy,
Last night my hunger woke me up and I grabbed an orange a couple of prunes. It got me through until morning. I have a hard time with fruit...it seems so acidic to me. My husband will say, "Try this apple, you'll like it, it's real sweet." But to me, it's so tart I can barely eat it. So I get the red or golden delicious, cut it up, put it in the microwave for a couple minutes, sprinkle it with splenda and cinnamon...yum.
I'm kinda bummed tonight. My 9 year old got into my Jenny Craig vitamin bars and ate two. I was a little upset...when I diet MY FOOD is off limits!!! Oh, well...good thing she's cute.
The weekend....can suck if you're dieting.
We went out rock hunting today. I got a salad at Wendy's for lunch and was hungry an hour later. I'm not going to list all of the mistakes I've made. I want to concentrate on getting back to the program and just making the best choices I can. Maybe I should wear Hawaiian shirts everywhere?
