Oh please let the answer be yes!!!
The last time I took diet pills was 32 years ago. The pills helped me to eat only fruit salad and iced coffee. At age 16, I remember being able to wear hip hugging bell bottoms and a teeny weeny t shirt.
So, I am truly interested in knowing if there really is something miraculous out there.

yes! diet drugs do work. Unfortunately, they make you lose weight, but are unhealthy otherwise. I was a phen-phen user. lost 40 lbs. and was on maintenance when they were taken off the shelf. the counter-part phentermine is still available and helps curb appetite and eliminates cravings. Check with your doctor. I have found that healthy eating and exercise and lots of support are the best medicine.

Strictly my opinion, of course...I believe diet products work to a point, but only as long as we use them. Nothing can replace good old fashion eating healthy and excercise for a healthy way of life forever.

Nope. They don't. There is only one sure fire way to sensibly take weight off and keep it off...Eat less and exerise more every day. That is day after day after day after day.

Im with piggy, I need that extra help with my diet. So far so good, I have lost forty seven Lbs. I feel great. I dont intend to depend on the pills for the rest of my life, but for now they are helping me to lose the weight I really need to lose. I am breathing a lot better and my legs are not hurting me near as bad as they were. Good luck to all of you what ever road you decide to take. want2Bthin

They may work for a quick fix. But they can not fix what compels us to over eat. And quick fixies are not usually healthy. We need to eat healthy and find other ways to deal with what makes us over eat. Good eating habits are healthy way go This is from some how has tried it all. juat my thoughts and feeling no offence intended. angelmom

We are human:) All we can do is take one day at a time! One meal at a time! Today I can do this. ;)

I want them to work, believe me, but I have never felt anything worked for more than short term, and now another is off the market. I took it, I felt it contributed to an emotional breakdown. Prozac seemed to control my appetite for a couple weeks, then the effect wasn't noticeable. Face it, losing weight isn't easy. It means changing your views about food, dealing with psychological reasons for eating, changing habits, dealing with social pressure, feelings of deprevation. It is just hard.

Hi everyone,
I wanted to respond to John's question "Do diet drugs work?" I was a registered Diettalk member over a year ago and shared at the time that I was taking Meridia and was having great success. "Diet drugs" are still heavily suspect and people who use them are (still) seen as weak-willed. Well, I used Meridia for 15 months, have lost over 100 pounds and have maintained that loss for over a year. Meridia was THE BEST thing I've ever done for my health. I had tried every diet and eating regime known on the planet, but had never tried drugs before Meridia. I had eaten my way up to (almost) 400 pounds and I was DESPERATE. True, there are no magical weight loss pills or potions (and probably never will be) but I had to work hard to get the weight off by changing my lifestyle, eating habits, and making exercise a daily part of my life. The difference for me was that I wasn't looking for a "quick-fix" and was finally psychologically ready to lose this weight for good. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't know for sure that I am never going to gain that weight back (and I still have quite a ways to go).

Thanks for listening.

Do diet drugs work? Hmm... I don't know the answer, really, but here are some concepts:

Maybe they work only as long as you are on them... quit taking them, gain the weight back?

Maybe they work but have bad side effects? However, maybe the side effects aren't as dangerous to your health as all the extra weight is.

Maybe they don't work physically but have psychosomatic effects, i.e. if your brain thinks they work you get results?

Maybe they work for some not others, depending on your own personal body chemistry?

There must be something to them, or else the multibillion dollar industry would fail, right?

well i have a theory about why these "pills" do work for some people.
for people who lose weight through pills i dont think its actually the pill that is working but that they believe in the pill.
people dont have enough faith in themselves when it comes to losing weight."i have tried everything and nothing works". but sell them a miracle pill and they have all the faith in the world. they believe in the pill so much that they actually start doing the things that they should have been doing in the beginning. they want to believe so badly that this pill is their saviour that they start eating less and walking more.
i am not sure if that makes any sense to anybody(which may not be unusual lol) but i believe its mind over matter in a lot of cases.

Actually Belinda, I believe the diet pills did work for me because I finally believed in myself. Meridia gave me the extra added confidence I needed to see that I could do it this time. You're right about them not being a miracle though, it's still hard work and it's the change in lifestyle that keeps me where I am today. You make a lot of sense to me, thanks. hi itsmecissy,
congratulations on maintaining your loss for over 12 months that is fantastic. i know what a struggle maintenance can be. i am glad that it made sense to you, i was trying to put it in a way that didnt sound patronising to you.
i believe that self belief is the most important factor when it comes to losing weight!

I think...no I KNOW that diet pills work...at least for me. I lost 20 pounds in 2 months...then went off them and maintained my weight till now. I am happily back on Adipex and feel so much better and have so much energy. I know that my doctor knows what is best for me and she is teaching me a whole change in lifestyle by calorie counting and exercise.
