Or for any store for that manner! How do you say "no" to temptation when your at the checkout isle? It is so easy to grab a snickers or milkyway on your way out. I find I do that a lot when I go shopping. How can I stop doing that? How do you resist the urge? I've been thinking about putting a dollar in a can each time I resist the urge, then use that money to buy something for me.

Neek, that's a good idea with the dollar thing. But almost all stores, including Target have a "treat free" checkout. Maybe you could make sure you have to go in that one if you can't resist. Or make your treat something non edible that you already have in your basket..... just some suggestions.

DON'T LOOK!!! I know that sounds ridiculous, but its true. Just turn away and don't look. Same thing in magazines. Just looking at food is enough to make me THINK I want it, and if my eyes linger more than 15 SECONDS, I will eat it for sure. DON'T LOOK!!!

If you are buying clothes, just look at that and ask yourself if you would rather have that candy or rather get a size smaller or something... if you are at any kind of store that sells clothes just look around and ask yourself that. :)
It might work, but I don't know

TicTac's are my answer, if I must have something. I have my favorite, but will change around for variety. They give me a nice taste in my mouth, for only a few calories, and I try to make them last till the next time I'm in the store.

The not looking is really the best answer, if you want to break the habit.

Same as at a resturant..You look for the biggest, sloppiest person you can find and you say to yourself.."Is a candy bar worth lookin' like that someday?" Now I used to do this when I weighed 270 and even though I was probably BIGGER then the person I was lookin' at (self denial thing :D) it never failed to work! Plus ya never know when the DT Police are watchin' ya!
ON TO VICTORY! :)

Pick some Extra chewing gum, it suppresses hunger and keeps your mouth occupied for a while! It is sugarless and low in cals. :D

Target oh Target....it is one of my favorite places to shop. My THING when I am there is to check out their markdowns. Lucky me, the last time I was there they had just marked all their Christmas stuff 90% off. I filled my shopping cart with bows and light sets and garland. I spent $18.00 for $180.00 worth of stuff!! Yes, when I got to the checkout I eyeballed that candy counter. BUT, I wasn't going to pay more for a candy bar then I paid for a whole set of Christmas lights! TIS the season to be jolly.... LOL!

Neek:

Don't get the HALT - Hungry, Angry, Lonley, or Tired. I have to remember if I am out and about and it gets late I'm liable to grab anything. I gravitate towards the wheat thins, or bear grahams. DANGEROUS!

What's in your purse? In mine you can usually find: an apple, a viactiv bar, altoids, sometimes a bag of baby carrots at the way bottom.

It's not about being bad. It's about not skipping a meal. Dontcha think????

Good Luck!

I agree. I've had Doctor's appts this week that if I had not brought a cereal bar with me to have as a snack, I would have caved and went to the cafeteria or vending machine!

TARGET or TARSHAY RULES! I will look for the check out lanes with no tempting treats!!!!

2 ideas:

1) think about your kid. Do you want him to be one of those brats that scream for candy every time he goes to the store, or do you want to set a good example?

2) think about freedom. this image stays with me, i once saw a huge man who worked in a convenience store. he completely unwrapped a king sized snickers and sat it on the counter. he ate it in 3 bites. it was as if he was powerless to resist those empty calories even for a few seconds between bites.

Maybe I am too simple, but I picture the treats crawling with bugs and they aren't so appealing anymore.
