Hello all

I wanted to know if anyone has a problem with there thyroid. I do and I would like to know if anyone is or has gone through a similar situation. This was the major cause of my weight gain. I will tell you all what I went through

About 2 years ago, maybe more, I joined and exercise class. I was going every day for about 2 months. I noticed I was getting very tired. Not tired like bedtime tired, but a different kind of tired. I was also noticing some of my skin on my elbows, hands, feet and face was getting hard and a grayish color. The worst part besides the sleeping continuously was the memory loss.Just frightening. Like I had said I was in an exercise class for a couple of months and wasn't losing anything, buy gaining. I was going through all of these crazy things and I couldn't understand why?? I was really stupid at the time, my husband and my mom kept insisting I go to the doctor. I hate going to the doctor, but after I couldn't take it anymore I decided to go. I remember lying in the bed and thinking..." I am just going to fade away, not wake up" It was so so scary. Anyway I went to the doctor and they took my blood and there office called me the next morning and told me to come in. They started me on a treatment and he sat me down and told me that my thyroid was almost "null" none... and that this was very serious, he had never seen numbers like that. I was 28 years old. I am 30 now and thank God I feel better.. My memory is better and so is my skin.Although I have to see my endocrinologist every few months. The thing that I am left with is the weight. I have felt better for awhile and have made every excuse NOT to lose this weight.. but now I know I am going to. I am miserable like this...and I know this weight will go just like all of the other symptoms. It just takes so long!!!

I would love to know if anyone has ever gone through anything similar to this. Thanks

Jessie

Hi, Jessie!

I, too, have hypothyroidism. (Mine is Hashimoto's disease). I know just what kind of "tired" you are talking about, and I was also cold all the time. I've been doing well on the synthetic thyroid medication, and I'm now working on the weight problem.

There is a really great book available that you can probably borrow from your local library call "The Thyroid Sourcebook" by M. Sara Rosenthal. It is a goldmine of information for people who have thyroid problems.

Best of luck to you!
